Dallas is a great teacher in the discussion part of class. As far as grading goes she is horrible. She believes everyone is C student so if you want anything better than a C you have to bust your butt. She won't read through your huge research paper before you hand it in. And her open book quizzes are too long to finish on time. Take her if she is the only hard class you will have. otherwise, be prepared to read and study a lot!!
She's evil. She'll ask for an outline and tell you it's not detailed enough. Then you redo it and expand it more and she'll tell you that you expanded it too much.
She is very intimidating. She wants you to participate, then shoot down your answer and then interigate people... A TON of reading! We had to read a 300 page novel in like 5 days plus a ton of other work on too of it. her quizzes are difficult as well. She doesn't believe in students having a life.
My huge complaint is that she explains what she wants AFTER you turn it in, not before. Suddenly what you thought was what she wanted is the total opposite, and you just got a crappy grade. Pretty much a ton of useless work.

She is the worst teacher I have EVER had. She gives so much homework that you can't keep up with, Quizzes are open notes but you still get a bad grade, she never tells you exactly what she wants so she gives you a bad grade for it. We have discussions but criticizes you for what you said. My advice to you...DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
Her intentions are good, but she is way too sarcastic. She won't tell you what her expectations are until you have turned in an assignment. I would steer clear if you have a choice.
She is awful! I've always done well in my English classes, but this was the first one I actually had to drop because the assignments were ambiguous, and when I asked for help, she was patronizing and just plain rude. Also, she isn't even up to date on her MLA citation, because she marked me down and I had to prove her wrong--which she didn't like.
She is way too sarcastic and I think because she is unhappy. She is tough and intimidating. if you cannot take the sarcastic comments, DO NOT TAKE HER!!! but if you can, be prepared to snap back with her and let her know, but overall she is very helpful and she wants you to do well, just ask for help and she will give it.
This class is so easy to get at least a B. Personally, I feel the teacher is beyond sarcastic and rude, she's just plain mean. Just because you have a doctorate degree doesn't mean you have to rub it in everyones face, especially that she's an African American woman with a doctorate.
Good professor, who is demanding of students, but you will learn alot in the class. I would recommend her if you want to learn. Not a class where you can just slack off in though.
UNBELIEVALBE!!! she makes assignments worth only a few points and then takes off points for things that are not in the syllabus and there's no way to get it right on your own. and when you ask for help, it's useless.
She does not explain what she wants from assignments, gives very few points for papers and gives you 0 or 1 because she feels you didn't do it right even though you followed all the outlines and read the book. She does not explain things and takes forever to respond back in emails. Do not take her!!!
All I can say is total ****!!! Is rude, mean, mocking. Hardest english class I have ever had because of her and how she never explains anything. DO NOT TAKE HER!
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ONLINE CLASS!!! I am a hard worker, and get very good grades. I felt she was totally unable to teach. She gives assignments that should be easy and become incredibly hard because she cannot explain anything. I have never had her with in class English, but working from an online standpoint was incredibly difficult. Beware!
If you are not up for sarcasm and to work, then don't take Dr. Dallas. She is a great teacher and you can learn a lot from her if you are willing to work. She may be harsh...but people..you are in college now, deal with it. I recieved an A- in her English 300 class, and it wasn't THAT bad. She is a proud person and has every right to be!
I got a A and I would say take her. I would say she is nice but shes not. assingm. were easy but she was never really clear on instructions and then would get mad but never explained nething. Likes to pick on ppl. picked on me the 1stday but i thought it was funny. dont be late. Try not to ask her for help bc she will try to make you feel stupid.
AWFUL! Why does business english include racial topics?? I kept asking myself when is this going to help me in the business world? If you can avoid this professor do. Unless you are ready for a subjective grading scale that is dependent upon your values and how close your beliefs relate to hers. This is the worse teacher I have had at SVSU.
Weak professor. She's odd, self absorbed, and acts childish in class as an attempt at humor. Don't expect clarity in assignments, and don't expect application or relevance in subject matter. Simply know that in 15 weeks, this will all be over. What you learned is that some profs must be endured, and education has nothing to do with it.
She is...difficult. Class progress or outcome is unclear, but when she grades, she is anal and very tough. Her help is often confusing, though sometimes insightful, as if you randomly shoot in the water you'll hit a fish.
This woman has a giant chip on her shoulder, it's amazing how she can carry it around all day! It must be exhausting to lug all that "I was a black woman in the navy for 20 years and now I have a PhD! Yes, you WILL call me DOCTOR!" And be that demeaning, belittling, and rude to your students. Explains what she wants AFTER you turn it in, not before
She is a good prof and fun to be around. For all those complaining about Dr. D, you have no backbone. She is really sarcastic, that's about it. You are in college and it's time to start working like it. No, she doesn't hand out A's, but if you work hard you can get one. OMG, she expects students to be somewhat self-sufficient, gimme a break.
Garbage. Don't take. Most unhelpful professor I've ever had.
She has an interesting personality but one can tell she truly cares about her students. You may not know why you're doing some things, but it makes sense in the end. Just do the work and get your "A."

Absolutely worthless prof. Online course-she refuesed to give any clarity to her vague assignments, didn't answer questions, and made implications that the students simply weren't bothering to read the text books. The worst prof, by far, that I've ever had.
Professor Dallas is good at what she does. She has high expectations because we are in COLLEGE. You will work for the grade that you receive and she is willing to work with you. She tries to bring humor to the class, but its to your discretion. But an overall good professor. I would take her again!
She's a good lady. Helpful with life advice, but leaves you on ur own to figure out the class work. There is a lot of work I will tell you. She is really unclear about exactly what she wants. She is very sarcastic and can get under ur skin if you let her. She picks on people sometimes but it's only because she wants to see you do well.
Online class was difficult for the first 2 weeks because there were several questions on navigating the site and getting answers through email sometimes brought up more questions. For a Technical Writing course there was A LOT of race, gender, religious based discussions. A LOT! Was it pertinent to Tech Writing?...maybe. Some real world senarios
This class was horrible at first but it was better at the end. There was a lot of writing but it wasn't too hard. I think she only read every third paper but on those the best i could get was 4 out of 5. Not too bad though and the final project is kind of fun. Worse part is a 94.9 is an A- STUPID
In online classes a professor should respond to emails promptly because the students do not get any "in class" time to ask questions. This professor would respond to my emails days after the assignment in question was due. It was all about race issues in communication, which are important to discuss, but it was a writing class, NOT sociology.
AVOID IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!! For the most part, I don't complain about professors, but Dr. Dallas is absolutely horrible. She is very rude and unclear with what she wants in assignments. She uses any and every excuse to knock points off on projects, she changed due dates with telling us, etc. This was the worst class I have ever taken by far!
Dr. Dallas is a good professor. She tells you what she wants and gives it to you in writing. If you do not follow directions she can get a bit sassy at times. She does not accept late assignments so plan your time. If you try at all you should get an A in her class. Her personality may be an acquired taste, but I like her and you will too.
Tough lady, and her humor takes a bit to catch onto, but she challenges you to THINK, and think deeply. She'll make you a better writer: be willing to work for it. A cheerful woman with no agenda but turning out better writers--brilliant mind and quick wit. Any complainers: I suspect they just don't like to WORK. Take her. You'll be better for it.
Dr. dallas know's what she's talking about, and she follows through with it. She was just as happy when I got a job after graduation as I was. She wants you to succeed and will be disappointed when you don't try hard. She will dock points if you are on facebook during class. Funny, smart, and witty. I loved her classes.
As an online instructor she is horrible. Assignments are vague and expectations are very high. I took an online class because I was looking for something flexible, this was not that class! She makes students reply to questions and submit assignments almost every day of the week, including weekends. Received an A, but it was not a good experience.
Dr. Dallas is a nice lady but she really knows how to push students buttons and get under your skin. I enjoyed the proposal and her professionalism on the subject on our topic, but she is very narrow minded. Students are free to express themselves but she shoots down a lot of good ideas and really kills morale of the class. Not sure of grade yet.
The professor that you love to hate, or hate to love,not sure. My suggestion is that if you are going to ask a question, make sure you have exhausted all other options, and that you have thought the question out well. Not trying to scare anyone, just something you need to get used to. Overall, I like her a lot. Gets the best out of her students!!
Dallas is vague yet precise in what she expects from you. She judges your projects by unmentioned rules. If you have to write solution defenses my advice would be to look at every inch of what you did and would do, make it long and detailed. I got an A, but i put time and tons of effort into earning that grade and others did too only to get a B.
Dr. Dallas is a wonderful professor who knows her stuff. Assignment instructions can be a little vague, but that's just because she wants her students to think! Guidelines are expected to be followed and there is no leeway on that. Follow the syllabus; everything you need to know is stated there! Beware: she plays favorites. Do what is asked.
I would not recommend this class online with Dallas. Her directions for assignments are hard to follow and even if you ask her a question, she doesn't clarify but simply repeats the directions she already posted. It is extremely difficult to read her mind over the internet. Online classes are usually very easy for me, but this is definitely not.
Worst professor I've ever come across. Oh wait, I mean DR. She will rudely correct you if you say "Professor." Half of our work is based on racial issues and it becomes old as this is NOT what I signed up to learn. Also, never expect to get a perfect score, but be prepared to work your tail off! Very tough grader and won't help clarify directions!
I would definitely not recommend this course with Dallas. Directions aren't clear and she is not helpful even if you ask questions. Also, even if you give 110% on an assignment, she still finds something to mark you down on (but doesn't really explain why she marked you down). Very frustrating course.
Worse professor ever! For being an online class she despised all questions and would answer a question by copying and pasting the instructions from the assignment in question. She also told me TWICE to interpret the assignment how I think it should be done and then I failed both of them and she just sent me the instructions again. No help at all

Dr. Dallas can be difficult, but she really wants to help you learn and grow. If you have a legitimate question or don't know how to use a program, she is more than willing to help. Very nice and helpful to me. Can be rude at times, cutting you off and not listening. You will learn a lot with her.
Absolutely loved this class. Dr Dallas is so much fun and is a great character. Describes things well. Always willing to answer questions if you come to her. Be sure to read all of the assignment directions clearly because she's a stickler about certain things. Overall, loved this class.
Took her online, HATED IT. the work was relevant and useful, but she wasn't always very clear about what she wanted and never replied to my emails. TOUGH GRADER. I never really found out what I did wrong and so couldn't improve for next assignment. the research paper at the end was only bearable because i got to chose to have music career. dont tak
So, I had a rating for a previous class with her on here, and it somehow got switched from "easy" to 4 hardness. She's not hard. Actually, she tricked us into thinking our final paper would be extremely difficult, and it was really only about 4 pages. Sometimes it's hard to tell when she's joking, just assume she is. Super great professor.
Dr. Dallas is an ok professor. I took this class online and her instructions for most modules were unclear and theres a lot of guessing. If you email her your questions she will just copy what it says on the module itself, not really helping at all. Luckily most of the modules were prettt easy. I would not recommend this professor for this class.
This teacher is not a good teacher. Had her for online and she was the most disengaged teacher I've ever had. She does not teach anything. You learn everything from the book and she expects you to understand the material without explaining or teaching it. Do not take her. Either do an in class or find a different teacher.
Dr. Dallas has clear and reasonable expectations. Her class is scored based on participation in class, group projects, reading responses, and papers. She does peer reviews before submitting papers which is very helpful. Her lectures are engaging and she is accessible when students need help.
Dr. Dallas makes every lecture exciting and engaging. She has no reservations about speaking to her students on an individual and personal level, making it very easy to contribute and feel valued.
Dallas should not be aloud to teach online. She does NOT answer questions and is terrible at explaining the rubrics. Would not recommend unless you want surprise deadlines

Dr. Dallas is a professor loved by majors and despised by non-majors it seems. Her instructions seem clear for assignments for me but she does leave a lot up to interpretation. However, this has taught me to read assignments deeply and work hard. She is a reasonable grader. She has gone out of her way to help me with career development as well.
Better to take it online than in person. She has feedback on canvas. A nice class to take in 8 weeks instead of 16. Homework due every other day but it does not take that long. Reading takes longest. She is understanding and grades quickly.
Very personable and laidback. One of my favorite professors at the university!
Dr. Dallas does a well job at laying out the rules per the course syllabus. However, she does not respond to feedback comments online. She is a tough grader and grades based on her preferences. For example, if you use a memorandum example from the textbook for a layout & she doesn't like it - you will have points deducted even if it's correct.
Dr. Dallas is not for everyone, but I love her. I had some reservations about her, but really warmed up to her. If you're an RPW major/minor, Dallas is your best friend. She structures her classes in a way that suits the profession NOT academia. I sense a lot of people issues with her stem from not being 'academic'. She teaches untraditionally.
- Disengaged, does not teach at all for online. - Condescending - Pedantic - Worst professor I've had by far. Here is one example. I had BARELY exceeded a word count on an assignment and received a failing grade for it despite that being the only issue. I asked her to reconsider; she implied I didn't know how to read and am easily confused.
Professor Dallas was an interesting professor. The homework itself was incredibly easy. Most weeks I could finish all of the work within 15 minutes. However, her grading was VERY picky. There were no lectures at all, and all of the material came from reading the book. Follow directions exactly to recieve full credit.

Literally the worst professor I have ever had. Assignment guidelines are taken VERY seriously and if you do anything slightly off from what she wants, she'll take of 50% of your grade. Don't even try to ask for help or dispute a grade. She was rude and extremely unprofessional when I reached out. Don't take her class for any reason.

She literally doesn't help you! Yell at students! She needs to be fired!!! She doesn't care about students, she talks about them and treats them like trash. If you're not RPW she sets you up to fail! She laughs at you when you cry. She is only there for the money and knows how much RPW needs her so she doesn't care about her actions.

If I could give this class a 0/5 I would. Dr. Dallas is rude, disrespectful, and does not help when questions are asked and will provide LITTLE to no feedback on why she graded your assignment/ quiz the way she did. When contacting her she was rude and no matter the question would answer with "All questions can be answered through the syllabus."
Dallas is incredibly unclear on some of the most simple assignments and it WILL lead to a worse grade for the student at no cost for her. She is disrespectful and impossible to work with. I was forced into taking her class otherwise I would not have and it should be avoided at all costs.
Professor Dallas was probably the worst professor I have ever taken at SVSU. She is very unclear about everything and if you ask her a question, she will just say to look in the book or on canvas when the answer is not even there. The only decent thing about this class is that the workload is not that bad. You usually get two weeks per assignment.
The worst professor I have ever had, if you can avoid her, do it. Unclear on assignments, disrespectful and will ignore your emails and attempts to reach out. Not only that, but this professor enjoys degrading and publicly embarrassing students in front of their peers. In her exact words, "I can do whatever I want to you, they can't fire me".
Super easy class if you follow her instructions, 8 assignments to do for the whole semester. Usually took me 15-60 min to complete. As long as you do the work and follow her instructions you will get an A. The assignments were short and had a max amount of words she wanted you to stay at. Literally so easy if you follow her directions.
Dr. Dallas is fine. I'm sure better professors exist in RPW, but her class was more than passable. She has a very heavy focus on attention to detail, so make sure you are thorough with your work. If you follow the syllabus and assignment instructions to a T, you'll be fine in her class.
Tries very hard to be funny and I don't think she realizes she is the rudest professor I have ever had. She will mess up at least 1 of your grades and may/may not correct it when mentioned. She is never wrong, and she knows everything on every subject. Won't help you with anything. Hardly any homework, assignment e/o week. Textbook is necessary.
7 assignments throughout the whole semester, all pretty easy but she gives strange and unclear feedback sometimes. I wasn't always sure what I was doing wrong.
Would not take online, doesn't respond to emails for weeks and is very short and unhelpful if you have questions. You have to follow instructions exactly or you'll get marked down heavily. Light workload but attention to detail is necessary.
Nothing you do will ever be good enough for this professor and i highly advise you to find another one.
RUN!!! This professor is so unclear with her directions but yet will mark you down for ever. Single. Little. Thing. Which adds up because there is only 2 assignments in this class per week. I really wish she would just tell us exactly what she wants.
One thing about her that I've had troubles with is her unnecessary areas in which she takes off points. I had an assignment have ALL of my points taken off because the name of the file wasn't what she wanted. I think that's ridiculous. Another thing is that she makes her quizzes to trick you. Read everything carefully, she's not on your side.
She needs to be fired she does not care to actually teach she just wants to mark off as many points as she can.
