Tahir gets an attitude when questioned and is not objective. Two students answered the same question the same way, and one got twice as many points as the other. Hard to understand, and will not reply to emails or messages
Very approchable, good teacher. tests are streight forward, out of the book..

He is my favorite math teacher, he is challenging yet great to ask questions. I have taken him twice.
I loved Tahir's teaching! he made Calc one so easy for me to understand. my friend had a diff. teacher for calc and ended up dropping the class, but i got an A with Tahir. If your taking calc. make sure to get Tahir as a teacher! He's the man!
Good teacher!!!
Great teacher. Explains everything in easy to understand way. I had been out of school for 20 years and he helped ease my fear of math in college. I would and do recommend him to anyone who needs that little extra help.
Good teacher, do the homework and go to class and you should do fine.
Very good teacher!!! Had alot of fun in his class, and he is very easy to understand if you go to class and do his worksheets.
he don't go over nothing and don't give you the grade you deserve!
Great teacher, he hardly grades homework, which made it easier for me since i understood most of the material already. He teaches his style, and not just out of the book which keeps the class as interesting as it can get
This was one of my favorite math teachers. His tests were easy, and if you do your homework, youll easily get an A or B. Great teacher, highly reccommended.
great professor.. explains things clearly and test are easy as long as you do the homework
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! His English is a little rough but not bad. Explains things VERY well (even though its calc 4)! Doesn't grade homework. Tests are easy because he only tests on concepts, doesnt hit hard for algebra slips. Gets impatient if you ask for help without doing homework though, duh.
This was an online class. On a test I worked a problem two ways with two different answers. Even though I circled the wrong one, he gave me half credit for working it correctly. That says a lot. Homework not graded, tests every other week or so. Willing to provide lots of extra help if needed.
He needs to be a little more cooperative with his students. He expects everyone to learn at a quick rate. This is not true for most students. Math is hard enough without having him as a teacher.
I have read all the other comments posted for him. I suppose if you are very interested in math that he would be an adequate teacher for you individually. However, if you don't like math or not too much, please do yourself a favor and don't take him. I beleive that he is only beneficial to students of a higher math capability. (a.k.a. engineers)

Tahir is a great teacher, he tried to explain concepts so that everyone can understand them. He pays attention to how the class is doing. He expects a lot out of his students, but that's how math is, if you're not trying hard, you're probably not getting a lot out of the course.
my class is spread out of 4 days, but the slow pace makes this class easy and he is a pretty easy teacher
I LOVE TAHIR. He is easily one of my favorites. I wish I could take him with me when I transfer. I f you ask questions he alsways take time to answer and shows a genuine interest in students whether they are doing well or poor.
Very helpful teacher, sometimes hard to understand because of broken english, final exam can sink you.
Even though English is his 2nd language, his math is very easy to understand. Very helpful and great examples during lecture. No matter what math class, take Tahir. Finals is the only thing that is a little tough. Otherwise A+ teacher.
He is easy to understand even though his talking is a little blurry... as long as you pay attention it is a breeze and i don't see why his final is considered hard.. it was 25 questions and you could skip any 5 that you wanted to. Very nice also. He is a good guy i am taking him again
Decent teacher but the material is pretty difficult. He's always willing to help and is a very nice teacher. It takes a little time to get used to his accent but that's about it.
Very good teacher. The exams were relevant to the notes and homework.
he gave study guides for each test and took similar questions just changing the numbers for the test. only 10 questions on the test and if you look over the study guide can finish within 20 minutes easy and A them.
Although he's from Africa, he knows that his accent can be a language barrier but works with it to insure you understand him.
Excellent teacher, looking forward to having him for MATH 224. Though English is his second language, he conveys math concepts better than anyone else in a language anyone can understand. Very fair in grading and always willing to help.
Good teacher, wants to help you learn the material, his accent is a slight barrier, but no complaints
If you struggle at all with math I would not recommend Tahir. He goes over the material once and then expects you to understand it immedietely. One time he even gave us a pop quiz over the material he had taught us the same day! I am an A student and I simpy could not keep up in his class and this was only math 104.
Excellent instructor! He explains everything clearly on the board, which makes for great notes. Then you get a handout summarizing the important stuff. Also, he's very helpful if you need it.
He was GREAT for 104!!! I couldn't follow this other teacher for 108. So I dropped that and I am taking him for 108 this fall. I am not good at all in math. I got an A in 104. He has review sheets and goes over them with you. GREAT!!!!!
great teacher but hard to understand i would recommend
I wish I could take him with me throughout this math process. GREAT TEACHER. My FAVORITE. Hehas reveiws sheets and will go over each problem. Very willing to help.Tests are from homework problems.
I think he is a great teacher! I had him for Mat 104 and I now have him for Mat 108. He gives a lot of examples and the homework is not due till the end of the semester. His tests are short and follow the lectures and homework well. He is willing to help if you don't understand something. I will definitely take him for future math classes.
After all these great reviews, I expected him to be the best, but he was probably the worst teacher I ever had. He's unclear and rips through the material faster than you can write. He's condascending. His tests were ridiculous. He's a tough grader. You better like reading math books because everything you learn's going to be from the text F minus!
Tahir IS the man; and his tests are 80% based off of the notes you take in class. He throws in 1 or 2 hw problems in the test to make sure you do it. BEST math teacher I've had. I got up at 8 o'clock 4 days a week in the summer, just so I was guaranteed a good teacher.
This guys one of the best math teachers i have ever had!! If you LISTEN, TAKE NOTES, DO THE HOMEWORK, STUDY... you will get an an A or B guaranteed... who isn't interested in math?? He doesn't want to trick you, but it can seem tricky if you don't do anything... He will also help you with any questions you have!! remember do the hw...
he is the shiz!
he teaches well, that's the whole point
THIS MAN IS AMAZING. All through grade school and high school, I never got higher than a C in Math. It never clicked for me. When I started going to his MAT104 class, everything clicked. :]. Hard to understand at times, but he's a nice guy. :D
I hate math with a passion mainly because I just don't get it. I have struggled my whole life with this subject. However Mr. Tahir is an excelent teacher, he is hard to understand what he is saying at times, but he writes everything down and as long as you take notes, do the homework, attend, and study for the tests (study sheets)You will pass :)
Let me be completely clear. I am NOT a math person. It's not my thing at all. But Mr. Tahir is an incredible teacher. He makes sure you understand before moving on, and is really good at communicating ideas. After 2 tests, I'm getting a 98 in his class. Take him if you can get him, and don't mind a slight accent.
He is a great teacher.
Mr. Tahir is an amazing teacher! He really makes things understandable. Tons and tons of examples, which makes it perfect for math! Pay attention in class. He does have a slight accent, but he adds humor to the class!
This teacher is great. He does have an accent, but fun to listen to. He is very helpful. Willing to tutor anyday before class or by appointments. One of the best.
He is the best teacher ever. He is very nice, I talked to him sometimes about studies. All the questions in the exams are from the note, so it's easy to get good grade if you work on the note.
I feel he is a good teacher for higher level classes. He goes through things very quick and doesn't actually teach it. I took down all his notes did the homework and still don't understand it. I'm not a math person, but alot of other people are doing bad as well in the class. He won't help you out on a problem just says a short thing then moves on
class was one day per week for 3 hours. He lets you out every time at least an hour early. His class is all or nothing no homework but we did have 4-5 take home assignments that counted as parts of the tests. The tests weren't difficult make sure to do plenty of practice problems. He isn't that approachable but do the pp and you will get an A/B
confusing! juggling between complicated material and his accent/spelling errors, it was almost impossible when we go to the harder stuff. yeah, he does a lot of examples, but when he goes so fast and moves on, its up to you to go back and decipher them later. when asked questions, i got looked at like i was an idiot. i would avoid if possible.
Calculus II: His notes were very clear and organized. He also gave out summary sheets w/formulas that helped. A few tests were take-home. Homework was online w/multiple attempts to answer. His accent is not a issue with his teaching!
He is straight to the point and will explain every step but you must speak up and ask questions. He finds your mistakes and errors and help you toward the right answer. I hate math and he made me sort of love it.
Tahir's a good teacher, if your pretty good at math. I enjoy math a lot, and if I didn't, this class would definitaly be the most boring one yet. Part of the problem is that he's SO smart, if you don't understand what he's explaining, especially if it's based on algebra, he'll get a bit frustrated. Pretty fuinny though. Best for calc 2 and more.
Mr. Tahir is the best math teacher I've ever had! He gives very clear notes and is willing to go over anything you do not understand! Sometimes he may seem frustrated if you ask questions but he will help you! He also gives small quizzes to check your understanding throughout the semester. I highly recommend him!
Best teacher ever, its so hard to please him on making up a test or so, he would never accept that. unless you have a doctor note.
He has a slight accent but I liked it because it reminded me of my dad. He goes through everything and if you do not get something he will go through it again. He does not get off track and he has the witty charm and humor to him. I loved his summer math class.
Amazing teacher! He takes fantastic notes and takes his time teaching. He makes sure his students understand the material before he goes on!
Tahir is my main man. This guy is a genius. If you come to class every day and shut up he will mold your mind into a calculus machine. Coming to class and shutting up are very important though. If you take notes and watch youtube videos on the hard sections you will get an A
The best Calculus teacher at ICC. He is very easy to work with. Unlike many other professors, he is not intimidating and is very relaxed about questions and will help you with whatever you need. You'll receive about 10 homework assignments throughout the semester, and all of them are relevant and he tries not to load a bunch on you. Pick Tahir.
Best teacher I have had in any college course. He knows the material and knows how to teach it. Pick him if you have the chance.
Best teacher pretty much ever. Very nice, very helpful, and always always always explains everything super simply. Would recommend him to anyone. :)
Tahir is a wonderful teacher! I took this course as a hybrid, and it was great. Since it was a hybrid, he moved quickly, but his notes were always clear and easy to follow. He's super willing to help you out if you don't understand something. Also, his reviews for tests were helpful. I'd definitely take him again! :)
For what he's teaching, Calculus, he's great at it. He does NOT get distracted or off-topic, so you don't have to worry about that. It's not easy at all, but that's the subject, not him. He's pretty clear and very helpful. He has subtle humor every class and is very relaxed. Homework is normally 20q online per week. Very ideal professor.
Great prof. I had him for Calc 1 and 2. If you have the chance to take him for any math class do it. If you do well on the tests and homework you really dont have to worry about the final exam to simply pass the class. Wish he was teaching Calc 3 next semestar
For anyone trying to gauge how hard Calc 1 with him will be: don't worry. I took calc 1 in highschool and had to study for every test, do all the homework and I got a B-. I studied for the first two exams for Tahir and after that stopped, didn't even open my book for the final, let alone at all that entire semester. I ended up with an A.
I loved this teacher! Best math teacher I have ever had! His accent does not bother me at all and unless you are a smart alek, the grammatical errors are really easy to look past. He is very willing to help you with any questions but show up! Missing ANY days will put you behind with learning(he doesn't care about attendance)
Tahir was a great teacher if you've never taken calc before. His lectures and teaching style were very concise and easy to follow. I had him for a hybrid course, and the in-class tests were no calculator, but followed the examples he gave. He gave take-home tests, but he would help with them during office hours. Best math teacher I've ever had!
He teaches how every teacher in world SHOULD teach. You go over the material in class, review, then test. No surprises. He gives hand outs in class then walks around to see if you're doing them right.
Do not skip class. The tests are pretty similar to the review he hands out beforehand. He is kind of intimidating, but he is really nice and helpful. I went multiple times to his office hours and he was super kind and willing to help! Awesome teacher if you're willing to give him the time of day and respect. Take him! Don't buy textbook.
Great professor! Trying to find him for my next math class. Makes sure that you understand what's going on before moving on and the test reviews are really helpful. You definitely don't need the book though since I don't think he used it at all. Take good notes and use the practice problems on MathXL and you should be good to go!
Great teacher. He is always willing to help you if you don't understand something and even walks the class to check to make sure you are doing the work correctly. He doesn't really use the book, most of the assignments are on MathXL. If you complete all of the online assignments and ask for help f you need it its an easy A.
I think he's my all time favorite teacher. He's a great teacher and covers everything clearly but I really like him because of his interesting character. He's a riot
I took his Calc 3 class over the summer. He is okay at teaching and you can understand him. What I didn't like was that he wouldn't elaborate much on certain concepts and it seemed like he wanted to minimize his talking by writing notes on the board. The final was tough. Individual tests weren't too bad. Just have to make sure you understand it wel
I never understood math before this semester. Professor Tahir is very clear about mathematical equations. He's the best teacher I have ever had!
If you are good at math this is the professor for you. He takes the complex and hard topics and makes them seem sooo easy. Loved his style.
An okay teacher. Hes good at teaching but if you ask him a question, sometimes he answers just to quickly get past your question and get back to what he was talking about. Be on time to class, he has an attendance sheet he passes. Tests aren't so bad if you study for them. online homework isnt too bad. u get 5 Tests and a final for the sem. Calc 2
Very simple class with a hands off but helpful when needed professor. He answered every question very quickly and helpfully when needed. The class is almost exclusively self-learning. There is one proctored exam which he grades on the spot and shows you what you missed. Nice guy and I would love to have him again.
Best math teacher I've ever had. I highly recommend him!
Homework: Online. Harder than what he does in class but you have a lot of tries to get it right. Test/Quizzes: Exactly what he lectures in class (no surprises or hard stuff from online HW). Sometimes does take home quizzes for really hard stuff (don't expect them regularly). Lectures: Easy to follow along Great teacher. Makes you work for the A
HW: Online. Harder than classwork but you have around 5 tries/problem. Tests: No surprises. Exactly what's lectured on. Sometimes does take home quizzes for really hard stuff. Good teacher. You still have to try if you want the "A". Show interest in the class and he will help you. Class is hard but that's because it's Calc 2.
Great online teacher. Quick responses when I had trouble with some homework/quizzes. Hardly ever had homework, one test per month. Easiest math class I've ever taken.
Great as an online professor. Responsive and a lenient grader. Only 1 HW assignment per chapter. Easy class, basic high school algebra.
With this professor I encourage you do go to every class. He does go over information quickly and expects you to do the work. However he gives a study guide for each test, and a whole class period to go over it. If you ask questions, take good notes, and participate a good grade is in your future.
Good teacher, rough class though. Lots of online homework, usually a pop quiz after lecture once every few weeks, sometimes take home. Tests were usually 20ish problems and 5 points each. Do not do well on them you will not pass with a C. Very good at explaining though and cares if you care.
I took this class online and had almost no interaction with the teacher. I did have to communicate with him a few times and he is willing to work with you if you need an extension for an assignment (within reason). Work is strictly from the online program, and no extra credit was given. Final exam was not online - you have to show up in person.
He's AMAZING, I was super scared for calc one but he made it a breeze. Do the reviews and you should do well on the tests! He's also savage and calls people out if they're not doing what their supposed to.. so funny, LOVE HIM!!
His class is great! He is a experienced teacher who simplifies calculus to make it understandable. The online homework is much more difficult than the tests. There were never any trick problems on tests, and we had a few take homes. He's also funny without trying. This is the best math class I have ever taken!
Prof. Tahir is a man of few words. I took his calc 2 section and selected him again for calc 3. You can expect 5 tests and a final, but no quizzes. Most if not all of the hw is on webassign and 100% on hw is very doable. Calc 3 gets harder as you go forward. Study from his review sheets and look through ALL the notes/examples and you will be fine.
Professor Tahir is hands down the best calculus professor at ICC and the best calculus professor I've ever encountered. His notes are flawless and as long as you study and do practice problems, he makes it incredibly easy to get an A, which is incredibly rare in a calculus class.
Tahir is a great teacher and explains things well, but he has a particular teaching style. The class is quiet while he writes concepts on the board. He doesnt talk while he writes. Then after everyone copies it down, he will quickly talk about it. He follows with examples in the same way. No notecards for tests and lots of formulas to memorize.
He really cares about the grades of the students and goes out of his way when he can tell that a student is putting in the work to succeed, but is struggling. He is a no-nonsense teacher, and bases his treatment of students based on his perception of their effort in the class, which could be good or bad. He is willing to help outside of class.
One of the best professors I have ever had and I am not joking! He really cares about his students and gives each one all the opportunity that they need to do well if they want to. All instructions were clear and no surprise quizzes. Tests could be tough but he prepared you well and gave plenty of time for questions every class.
I don't know why the ratings are so good. This teacher was absolute trash. They offered absolutely no help and failed me by 1%. I begged for any opportunity to raise the 1% to pass and graduate on time and they refused. Completely not understanding. Don't take them.
Made calculus really easy to understand. Took him for a hybrid class. He handed out notes in class and went over examples and had problems for us to try at home. Then he would go over the problems in class the next time.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to take this course with Fereja! He doesn't offer help and your basically left to teach yourself in this class! There is no extra credit offered. The book was never used everything was online with MyMathLab.
Prof Tahir was a caring professor. His brain is wired for Math, mine is not. He does plenty of examples in class and is available during set office hours. The homework is tough, but he will try to explain things. Honestly, make sure you have time to study. I didn't complete class because my schedule was just too busy & I struggled to pass tests!
Professor Tahir remains one of my favorite professors. He was an amazing teacher, willing to help you outside of class, and was hilarious. I took Calc 2 and 3 with him and even though both were online and very hard, through his help I was able to get through both classes with an A. Would 100 percent take again! Definitely a gem.
He was a great professor. He was very helpful and had plenty of open office hours where you could go and meet with him. One thing I loved about his class is that he was straight to the point with everything so we could move smoothly throughout the semester. When the class was struggling, he knew to slow down and provide more help
Good teacher for a somewhat difficult subject. His tests are short and to the point and he's willing to slow down to explain tough concepts in class.
Tahir is great at pointing out common mistakes students make and giving students tips on how to get better scores. Also great at simplifying difficult concepts and connecting the dots. However, he does rush through practice problems at times so try to get them done before class so you're not rushing to write down everything he's saying.
Fereja Tahir is a pretty good professor. His teaching style is easy to follow, clear, and well formed. He is an excellent communicator when it comes to math subjects. I will say though if you plan on skipping class and not studying you WILL fail. He really tries to push you just the right amount and provides everything you need to succeed.
Love Professor Tahir! He was very caring and wanted to make sure we really understood the material as there is challenging material. He made math enjoyable with bringing jokes and relavent with real life examples into the class. Very sweet professor! Very accomodating
Very good at explaining materials and made sure it was understood by everyone however he never put grades in. By the end of the semester my grade said N/A and I would not have known my grade if I didn't email him.
I have never been a math-minded person, however, he was a great professor, and I was happy I ended with a B. Good lectures, easy final.
I took this class online. The coursework and tests were easy enough if you put the work in. Please note: If you are not a self-driven person, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR ONLINE. He has everything set up before and it all worked great but he never contacted the students. There were no reminders about homework due or tests available.
Great teacher!
Tahir is intimidating at first, and he sometimes makes you feel silly for asking him questions (only when one-on-one), but he really grows on you. He explains concepts well and his sarcastic humor makes the class enjoyable. He seems to really care about his students.
He does not teach just writes & repeats verbatim He does not interact with students like Patrick Ward. DOESNT EXPLAIN! HW & class notes differ from each & both differ from tests (TEST NOT THE SAME AS HW or Notes ) if you do the work correct & make 1 sign mistake he takes 5/10 points on test Take home test is 10/90 on test Not gracious. RUDE!
Not interactive for sure. Just says what he writes. You know he wants to go home and just get his work done. Doest not explain!! Tests are not related to the homework or notes (he makes it up completely different). The answers are all abstract and unclear. hundreds of formulas NO NOTE CARDS ON TESTS which is different from other teachers. PASSIVE!
The class is a huge data dump. He lectures and doesn't care about engaging students. His tests are inconsistent. Some tests are multiple choice but you still have to show your work. The final was not multiple choice, the average grade was 61%, and the final review sheet was unhelpful. This is the worst Calc teacher I've experienced.
Class average on final 61%. Originally posted a worse review, but I emailed him about it and found out that he adjusted final grades, and my grade was returned to an A. Don't really have much to complain about, understand that Calc III is a tough class and be ready to work hard (3-4 hr per week outside of class) to get an A.
Great professor. Just follow the formulas and learn them
I really liked him! I took MATH 222 hybrid and I missed a ton of the classes because of sports. His test were very clear. I truly think he is the professor I have understood math the most even though my grade doesn't reflect it :) I would totally recommend him 10/10
Fereja Tahir is a caring professor who makes math more enjoyable with jokes and real-life examples. While the coursework can be challenging, unstuck ai and office hours are helpful. Overall, a good class if you're willing to put in the work.
Great Professor! HIGHLY RECCOMEND
Good guy, I felt that his teaching was effective.
He's such a nice guy and you can tell he cares about his students. It is a hard class and I am not the best at algebra, but make sure you're there every class because if you don't attend the lectures you will have a really hard time.
Very fair professor. Always gives good feedback when asking questions.
