I enjoyed Dr. O'Doherty's course. He's entertaining and cares about his subject. Wants students to call him every time they're absent, which is a little annoying, but serves as good motivation to attend, I suppose. Uses the inexpensive eFictions book for the convenience of the destitute among us.

He is an awesoem teacher who really knows his stuff. You want to take a class that is interesting and very thought provoking, and most of all not like the other broing English classes they offer...take his class. You won't regret it!

One of the most enjoyable classes I've taken. Dr. O'Doherty is humerous, thought provoking and insightful. He respects everyone's opinion and encourages deverse opinions and critical tninking.

This class is super easy. HE is a funny guy. I would deifinately recommend taking him. ery helpful and the work is easy.

He is an awesome Professor! He knows his**** and then some! He is always willing to help. Thought provoking, funny, encouraging, and respects everyone's opinion. Encourages you to be yourself. Treats you like an adult and doesn't look down his nose at you. I would definitely reccomend him! I would choose him as my English Professor everytime, if I could!

He is a hard grader but he is very helpful. He expects you to read a lot and be ready to discuss in class. He does a lot of group work and per editing. He is very helpful if you go to his office.

He puts a comical spin on everything to lighten up the class. He's kind of loopy, but makes english entertaining. He'll call on everyone, and will over-congratulate you when you say something good. He appreciates commentary...and all kinds of music. He knows something about everything!

One of the best, if not the best English professor at Palomar. He really teaches how to write papers. Integrates critical thinking effectively. Teaches research skills. Classes are interesting. His class prepared me well to transfer to University. If you're going to transfer, take him! You'll be glad you did!

I loved his class. He is always on the go, covers a lot of stuff, but keeps class interesting. He's a great guy, someone to look up to! You'll like his class a lot, but you do read a lot and write essays, besides that not much homework.

He is the best English teacher you could ever have because his teaching skills are very good and he gets right to the point. He makes the class fun and enjoyable. I would give him five stars out of five.

there is something about Dr. O'Doherty that i just love, even though i struggled thu some of his assignments (all papers, no assignments) he is very helpful and LOVES it when u come see him in his office hours. he is a big help. his stories of his irish upbringing are so funny, it is more like a philosophy class.take him, he is awesome, and hot....

He is one of my favorites :) For our class we were instructed to write 5 papers, but only the last 2 I would consider difficult. He is very helpful! I was up a few nights until 2am doing the readings and finishing my papers... but if you work hard an A is within reach. Even though I took an afternoon class, I never fell asleep... Great professor!

Tough class but great teacher!

Oh my goodness! I took Dr. O'Doherty's Eng 100 online.. and I almost dropped. I fell so far behind.. but I emailed him, and he was totally understanding. I sort of wish I took his class in person because he has a wonderful personality. I've taken English at Palomar with other teachers, and could never finish.. he is very motivating! TAKE HIM!

Fantastic professor. Loves what he does, and it shows. He has led an exciting, amazing life, and he brings the wisdom he has gained with him to class. Plus he's totally hot. I have known a lot of people who've taken his class (the one "in person"), and no one ever regrets it. Taking an on-line class from him seems like a waste of his charm.

Professor O'Doherty is by far the best english teacher I have EVER had. He taught me so much, and at the same time kept a low-stress and fun environment. This teacher taught me how to write well and made me want to learn.. I would recommend him to anyone! He is so funny!

HE IS FANTASTIC!!! One of the best English teacher I have ever had. Works with the student, and keeps everything low-stress. If you have too many issues going on... no probelm... he'll delay the deadline for an Essay. You will regret not taking his class if you are taking high-level English classes.

The best teacher and the best class i have taken at palomar. Walking out of his class everyday was really refreshing. My mind was filled with new words and life lessons that i carry with myself everyday. He is really witty and funny which also adds to the ambiance of his class.

Fergal is one of the best prof's, ever. He's full Irish to boot, accent and all, knows pop culture very well, and unlike so many prof's, he's got a sense of humor, and a good one at that. To me, creative Writing 135/136 wasnt a class - it was enrichment. You learn how to write great, and you learn a little about yourself, too. Highly recommend.

Several small papers all opinion based, no midterm or final. Grades based on personal improvement. Lots of discussions. Very inspiring teacher. Everyone came to class because they wanted to be there. He is very inspiring. I hate classes, but looked forward to this one every time!. He is clear, helpful, and can really make you love what you learn!

He is the best teacher ever! i love him, so nice and clear, he made me to love school again, i recommend him to all, u don't only learn English, as well as life lessons.

I was impressed not only with his teaching style ,but with his candor and sense of compassion. I was 25 while taking his english 10 class ......he made it worth while being back at school .

Sticks to syllabus, gives fun lectures,and only asks for opinion based response papers... 2 pgs max. 1 done every 2 classes, and discussions on reading assignments (which are short & daily) done at every class. He will help you understand writing, inspire you to love English, and change the way you think/create. THE BEST! Thank you Mr. O'Doherty!

ok, so for all you people who are dreading enrollment in an English class, you will thank me later if you take O'dorhety.He has a sense of humor, very laid back, and is very understanding. You can tell he is passionate about English, and always shows up to class with a smile. I used to hate English, and I'm upset he's not teaching 202 next semster.

Very great teacher. Gives you 5 essays and we read Moby as our book. Its a very social class, I loved it. It's not one of those classes where you show up, and shut up. You get involved with him and the other students in the class which was great. A very good teacher for a first year to college since you meet people in class. VERY RECOMMENDED!

I have taken O'Doherty before and I love every minute of class!! Some days are boring but that's usual in school. He is very helpful and is very big on participation. You can raise you grade by participating. He is very helpful when it comes to writing and treats the class like adults. If I could I would take him every semester.

Very easy going, works ae classespace

Dr. O'Doherty is honest and open to your ideas, not at all intimidating. He definitely wants you to succeed in his class and will help you if you asked. There is 5 essays, averaging 3-5 pgs. The last being a research paper. His class will strengthen your critical thinking skills. I like his sarcasm and stories. Lectures are entertaining and fun.

One of my favorite teachers. Very funny outgoing guy super laid back chill. Class is easy but you do have to work for your A . But it is an easy A.

He's a really cool and fun professor! Can be sarcastic sometimes but its funny. Hes an easy grader overall and doesn't leave many essays. He really does make learning fun and gets the whole class involved. Definitely recommend him!!

You really don't know what you are getting in the class unless you ask him. Everything is weighted and he gives a lot of extra credit. They could be anywhere from volunteering to read or a short essay about something outside of class. You need the book because that's where your homework is. I would buy the paperback copy of the book .

Professor Fergal is a super nice professor, and his class was quite easy for me (that being said, I tested out of 116 level English class when I was 15). He was super laid back. So laid back to the point where sometimes I'd wonder if he even pays attention to his own deadlines, which he seems to always shift back. We got all the work done though.

Best teacher i've ever had. Easy essays and fun class to take. He really cares about his students and tells good stories.

I took him for 100, and this class felt pretty much the same. You start out with warm up writing which is really helpful, and then we just talk about everything under the sun and write something about it. He gives extra credit, and is pretty gracious when you get sick. I wish he had a schedule in his syllabus though.

EASY A

He's amazing! I wish he taught Eng50. Overall he makes you understand if you have questions. I hated writing but he made it fun and easy! I recommend his class!

One of the best classes I have ever took! He is very easy going and friendly. There is lots of writing in this class. His assignments/ papers are easy and he offers tons of extra credit. I would recommend his class any day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could say so many wonderful things about Professor O'Doherty, but I only get 350 characters. Hands down the best English teacher I've ever had. I took him for summer semester and he made sitting in class for four hours totally worth it. He's motivating and concise, and he truly does want you to succeed. If you get the chance, take his course!

Mr.O'Doherty was the best professor I have had, and is very understanding. He wants his students to get along and know each other so we can be comfortable to help each other out, but does not tolerate talking while he talks he will call you out for it. other than that he is a very understanding professor. I would love to take his class again.

PROS: easy A, pretty sure he doesn't even read essays, super cool and nice, minimal homework, lots of extra credit, put in bare minimum effort and you'll get an A, CONS: hes "delusional", he broke his foot my semester, but continues to talk about how he surfs. says he teaches at UCSD, NYU, USC but why is he at Palomar then? doesn't use canvas

Overall, he was by far one of the best professors I have ever taken at Palomar. He was easy-going and made the class interesting. You can tell he really wants his students to succeed! The only negative is that he does not use Canvas , so you have to stay on top of due dates. Recommend taking pics of whiteboard.

He was so funny and made the class interesting. The only thing that I would have changed was how organized he was. He was kinda all over the place in giving assignments and staying on top of things. He would go off on tangents, although they were amusing. You have to clarify a lot and many things he says are unclear.

Prof Fergal was great! He tells lots of stories about his life. We read a play and a few short stories. He will give plenty of extra credit and revising essays. A lot of work out of the grammar book. My only issue would be he doesn't use canvas and is disorganized with the schedule. He assigns homework then has you do it again as a group in class.

Professor Fergal is a kind professor and I would love to take his class again. I wish he showed up on the days he was absent. Also we was absent so much we probably would have been able to write another essay. All in all he is an amazing professor.

Great English Professor. About 5 essays for the entire course. Gives you multiple chances to rewrite your essays for a better grade. He's funny and caring. 10 out of 10.

Best English teacher super easy class!!! Im not the best writer but still got As on my essays and the extra credit assignments which were short essays and super easy!!! Highly recommend this professor but he does require daily attendance to see his homework assignment because hes not a big fan of canvas. Overall take him you wont regret it!!!!

Fergal is the best English teacher there is, he is funny and really gets into the books. I thought it was going to be a boring class, but he makes it great. He really cares about his student too. Be respectful and pay attention and this should be a relatively easy class!

This is the best teacher I've ever had in my entire life, he made English very fun and entertaining while making sure to get work done as well. He is very relatable and is a very fair grader. He talks to each student individually about their work. I miss this class and professor a lot. You will be doing yourself a favor by signing up for this class

The easiest English class I've ever taken. He's very helpful when you ask for help and a generous grader if you show effort. I got 100% on 3 of my 4 essays. I basically had to retake this class because it didn't transfer over from my school in IL. Think I got a high C and I really struggled, I never met the length requirements for any of my essays.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Gives good feedback teaches you good grammar skills that are important in life. Grades are determined on papers and if you attend class and participate you get extra credit. You are guaranteed a c if you show up to class. You most likely will get an A if you do all the essays.

I had Prof. O'Doherty for an English 100 class and I cannot say enough good things about him! He was so friendly and an easy grader, he cared deeply for his students and made sure they could learn at his pace and worked with you if you needed more. He was always cracking jokes and making people smile the moment he walked into the room!

He is a really good professor I would 100% recommend him the only thing is is that he assigns like 5 essays but they are easy and is very helpful if you need help with them very understanding overall a good class .

I really enjoyed taking this class. It was over zoom so we didn't meet in person. I enjoyed learning every single second. I also enjoyed writing the papers. It was very fun.

Professor Fergal O'Doherty was great! This class was definitely a breeze. The class would consist of creative writing for 10 minutes through Zoom and class discussions afterward. Participation really matters to him. The professor also has a great sense of humor. All in all, this English class was anything but boring, and I highly recommend it.
