Fermin is a cool teacher. You just need to get into the class material and use outside experience to understand his scenarios. The lectures were often colorful and make sure you TALK! The tests are very comprehensive - so study well.

The class is pretty easy if you actually study for it. though he spends time talking about things that don't matter, he does cover everything that is on the quiz.

I love FERMIN! But he was a jerk to slackers. as long as you show you care, he'll treat you nicely! I worked my a$$ off and got an A. He was really funny and sometimes irrelevent, but always sympathetic and nice.the final is all out of the book, no need to read it until he tells you what to review. I'd recommend Fermin if you want SKILLS in speech.

He makes every day enjoyable. Most of these opinions are way off. His confidance can come across wrong, but his teaching abilities are right on target. I have experienced many different teachers at skyline and no one ever has made me interested in a subject that i once didn't like. The things he shares in class is all relevant to the book. I think

You learn very little. He likes to talk about himself tooo much! He likes to act like he is cool, but really takes joy in benign an ****! GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

i don't know what everyone else is talking about. he was a pretty cool guy, and frankly the class was how to speak in front of people.. if you had trouble in this class, you have bigger problems. his faults are being a yankee's fan (me being a bosox fan), his lectures can be a bit boring, but it's quite possibly the easiest class i've taken...ever.

i realled like him! he was my favorite teacher during my first semester. he's funny and clear with what is going to be on the test. a lot of people in my class did well. attendance is important. will hold office hours before the speeches to help you out. makes speech days easy to deal with. adds lots of great stories and to make class interesting.

I took the Argumentation and Debate Honors class. His class was hella easy. I just made my opinion known at least once a day in the class, did mediocre on the quizs and final, did great at the debates, and got an A take it why not. No real work

mr. irigoyen is a fun teacher. every class was fun and interesting and he always made jokes in class which were actually funny. you should definitely take this teacher he really makes speech fun.

Fermin is a pretty cool teacher. He talks a lot about his personal life and tells stories that have nothing to do with the class. If you participate you will do well in the class.

He's a wonderful teacher. As long as you come to class and let him know ahead of time that you can't make it on a speech day, then you'll be fine. His test are hard. If you go to class, you can get at least a B without studying. He's a nice guy in general. A bit of a quirky sense of humor and he'll go on slightly related rants. It's a fun class!

He's nice, funny, and an easy going guy(at least in my opinon). There's NO HOMEWORK! Don't take him for SPCH 120 if you don't want to share personal things from your life with the class. In the end, he's pretty cool and he wants you to pass. He even tells you what will be on the test, so you know what to study.

Great Teacher, very funny and entertaining. Enjoys what he does and does it well. Really helpful, and cares about his classes... I'd certainly take other classes from Mr. Irigoyen

He seems like a nice guy and a pretty easy going class, but he gets strict and grades really hard. If you can go up and make a speech like a professional, it's no problem. If you're a novice, then don't take it. He's boring and would make a fool out of you if you drift off to sleep. I will not take this professor again, IMO.

Class is super easy. Write speeches, practice it a few times. Read your speech but look at your audience. He gives you test questions the days before. You could get a B no sweat. But if you want the A, just practice your speech and delivery. The gap between an A and B is honestly practicing your speech. no memorization. just look up when you read.

He's fair. He has a natural passion for what he teaches. I believe he genuinely wants to teach us all to be better public speakers & how to do it properly. I agree that he does go off on a tangent sometimes but I think it's a good way for him to talk about current issues to get the class talking and connect with the class. He is funny sometimes.

He is an okay speech professor. He has a funny humor but his jokes can also get old. The only thing I enjoyed about his class was that there was only 3 speeches total. Tests questions are not even covered in his book. Speeches were easy, but the way he grades sucks. No matter how well you did on your speech you will not get an A. Very tough grader.

The class was pretty chill. Yes he does seem to go off track alot, but thats what makes the class really fun. I loved the lectures. Yes his tests arent easy, so if you dont study then the obvious will happen. We never had homework, only a paper. I like him. He is pretty nice, but he can be anal.

He's very serious about Speech and I almost didn't pass the class, it's an important life skill that he is obviously very good at if ever you truly listen to him talk. His book makes a lot of philosophic references. I would recommend reading the textbook as if it's a religious manifest. Anyway, he's funny and I think he's a kind of cute too.

Talks about himself way to much. Waste a lot of time on stories about himself then lets you go when its time. Really boring teacher. All you need is the book and to follow the outline.

Easy A...He wrote the book & test ?s come straight out of the end of chapter ?s. 3 speeches & plenty of in-class tim to revise & practice! Hate public speaking but he made it pretty painless. I also recommend taking his night class, he seemed to like us better than his day classes which may have something to do with the variation in his ratings!

I took his class FAll 2012 and got a B. Pretty easy class, reads from textbook, quizzes on each chapter, 3 tests.Quizzes were mostly take home. Tests were take home.Not many students participated in discussion so the class was a bit dry, and he would get irritated because of the lack of participation.

Fermins a pretty cool teacher. This guy knows what he's talking about. Just show up to class and study the book questions. Your grade is needed on midterm, final, and three speeches. I was nervous at first but this guy is super cool. Makes everyone feel really comfortable. Thanks a lot Fermin, Dr. Fermin to you freshmen.

Easiness:3 speeches 2 tests no homework. Clarity: He write the book. Follow his format. Helpfulness: Ask questions he's already willing to help. Just show up to class and do the work like a good college adult. This is not high school. This is an Easy class.

Super funny class but depends if the students are willing to communicate. Tests are easy, same questions as in the book. For speeches I think he takes off points for incorrect formatting and if you're missing sources. And also, presentation-wise, I think he pays attention to 3 things. Eye-contact, hand gestures and voice.

Quizzes are a little bit hard, so you really need to pay attention in class, and probably skim through the book every once in a while. Thought I was gonna get a C or a B in his class, but he ended up giving me an A, he is full of surprises. Just show up and pay attention, and he will pass you.

Makes it obvious that the textbook is an essential item you need to use to help yourself pass the class. The quizzes are hard, at times, but it gets easier when you continue to take them. Memorizingreviewing examples and vocab words will help ALOT on the tests. Make sure to check with him your grade and how you can improve it.

he wrote the textbook so read it, tests are Q straight out of the book. thinks he is modest but loves talking about himself, indulge him and he will love you. the work is super easy, just follow the outline and turn things in on time. make eye contact

Fermin's class is awesome. He tends to use his personal life quite a lot as examples for the topics we're learning, but it works. Lectures are clear. Gives a study guide for tests which are pretty straight forward and easy if you pay attention and show up to class. Likes to have conversations in class instead of a straight up lecture, which helps.

Great professor! Makes expectations VERY clear - 3 tests with questions in the textbook, 3 speeches. You have to show up for all days that speeches are being given. Speech outline guidelines are very clear in class and in the book. He's funny and will help you out if you ask for it and ask for help in a timely manner. Only HW is speech outlines.

Awesome guy. You learn a lot about the subject from his fun lectures, but get ready to read the mediocre textbook.

Great Person. For me, the funniest professor I've ever had. However he is super line ant, he won't forgive you if you missed something, not even the 10% penalty, he won't give you ... Also, the last speech outline will b the hardest and for some reason, he pushes the assignments a lot. Like I mean He CAN give us more time to do our outlines but

Irogoyen was an amazing professor. He makes students feel really comfortable in his classroom which is super important. I took his interpersonal communications class at CSM and got an a. The only things we got graded on were really just the quizzes which he gives study guides for exactly what is going to be on them.

He puts on a tough impression, but if you take the chance to discuss things with him it makes the class a lot more worthwhile.

I really enjoyed this class and I feel like I came out of it with a better understanding of myself and the relationships I have. Hes very good a tying the material into real life. He knows how to make people comfortable. The class itself is very straight-forward and would be hard to fail. Show up, participate, and do the study guide.
