Lots of homework in this course specifically, 75-100 question tests, not always clear
No Comments
couldn't anwser her own questions most of the time and managed to confuse even the best students with her lectures.
Tough class. Tough exams. Moderate final.
very unclear when explaining things. has answered questions in class with words like because or it just is. those type of awnsers dont help me to understand conceptes better
this professor does not know that much about chemistry. i think that she has been teahcing using the same method for so long now that she does not relize it is not effective. she offers no curve even though over half the class was failing
Not clear, and not well prepared for class. Probably missed about 1/3 of classes
Not organized, looses papers, forgot answers to her own questions. Confused the class and herself with her lectures. If you need a good grade in chemistry and would like to understand the subject then dodn't take the class from dr. caka.
This professor was very unfair in her testing (which is basically the whole grade). She was unclear and didn't even seem very knowledgable about the subject. She wasn't enthusiastic at all about teaching.
She doesn't know how to teach. When someone asks a question her response is usually "I don't know". Her test are there to trick you not to test you on what you know. She is unprepared all the time and unknowledgeable about chemistry.
Good heavens, do not take her for chem 1210. She didn't know her stuff and was so boring. We would ask questions and she couldn't answer them. She'd just say come to the office after class and we'll figure it out. AARRGHG!
I agree with the other comments. I tried hard in this class and understood almost everything covered in class and in the book. Grades are based on tests and her tests use questions that she likely had in graduate school.
I read every word in the book, understood every concept and like the rest of the class struggled to get C's on the tests. There is no curve. Whenever she opened her mouth I felt intelligence being sucked from every pore of my body and drained into the black hole of eternal nothingness known as hell.
Class average C, tests extremely tough. If you need a good grade in chem, do not take her classes. Neither one of the chemistry teachers at UVSC are good choices. For a good grade in this class, try Salt Lake Community College, or another school, then transfer the credit back.
She is flat out a horrible teacher. Her tests suck, even if you understand everything perfectly, you still may get C's or lower on her tests.
I was one of a few who got an A in the class, but I still have to agree with most of the comments. I read each chapter twice, studied at least 15 hours a week, and worked all the problems. Her tests were random (too many "Chem Connections" ques. and not important info) and the final was ridiculous.
Her grading system truly bites. Very very hard tests that she doesn't curve. I would recomend not taking this class from her.
Class seemed so long with her. But the thing that gets you is her tests. All she does is try and trick you. Do not take unless you are planning to study A TON!!!!!
She was very helpful and explained difficult things clearly. I did n ot have the same experience as most of the other people who commented.
She was a horrible teacher. Test were written horribly and she would never attempt to aid you on them in anyway. Her goal in life is for people to fail
Not a good teacher at all. Doesn't curve tests and doesn't give a crap if the whole class is getting a C average. She doesn't even write her own tests, she just takes them from some online forum. The class is very hard and even harder with her as the teacher.
She was not very helpful to me. I still went to her class even though I was failing...and then towards the end she based my grade just off of the final. I studied for days and days for the final, still FAILED...even though I was working 2 part time jobs, going to school part time, and having a one year old son.She wouldn't budge, and still failed m
not helpful. I hate chemistry, and she has made it worse. I can't see myself getting anything higher than a C in this class, and I got a 4.0 last semester... yeah
Shewashorrible.Shetold the class that only 10% was going to pass her class.I took it to the Dean and they didn't care.Their response was that she can do anything she wants.I planned on going to Dnt school with 6 buds, most all failed. Many of them are going to SLC Comm & get'n A's in the same course.Tests are a joke!Nothing in class is on the test.
Was not helpful at all when you have questions. Did not go over anything, so you had to learn yourself how to do everything. Was not very clear with instructions. I always felt lost in the class.
She was really confusing in her explainations. Her tests were impossible. Her questions are so confusing. I could do all the chapter reviews in the back of the book but when i took the tests...it was like i didn't even study. Her questions all have like 2 answers that it could be...and i always picked the wrong one.
Very hard, but if you go to class every day, you should be ok. Also, for her exams, take the practice quizzes in WEBCT; they help a TON. Final was really difficult but she did curve it.
I thought she was a good teacher. She made it clear that many people would struggle if they didn't study. She went over problems daily with me. That says alot. Sorry haters I think shes good.
I had her for Chem Lab, and I thought she was a hoot! - Really funny sense of humor. She is tough, but if you keep up, you're okay. She's SOOOO smart that I think it's a little hard for her to come down to a beginner's level. I enjoyed her class though - and I'm a beginner!
I would definitely recommend her. She is sweet. She is now one of my favorite prof's! I took her class in the summer block and got an A! She is really good at helping you if you need it, she's totally open!
She was really good at pulling examples from everyday life. There wasn't a high percentage of people who did well in the class, but there also weren't a high percentage of people who SHOWED UP for class. They go hand in hand. I was impressed at her willingness to explain things over and over if needed without getting irritated.
she is a nice lady but she really is awful at preparing you for her tests. which are so long and hard there is no way to effectivley study for them unless the rest of your schedule is way easy.
Chem1010 is a hard class any way you look at it. The key to her class is to read the chapter from the text book and show up for class. If you do that, you'll easily get 100% on all of her quizzes, and she drops your lowest test score for a quiz. You'll also understand the material and do well on her tests. She is very patient with students.
She has a dry sense of humor. She thinks she is really funny, but she is totally not. Her tests are EXTREMELY HARD. The avg on them were about a D. She assigns homework on every chapter and it's a lot. She made my interest in chemistry go from HIGH to get me out. She has quizzes daily.
AHHH!! I thought that this class was so hard. Dr. Caka's tests are VERY difficult. Class attendence is pretty much mandatory because she gives in class quizes. The lectures are informative, but hardly cover the material for the test. You must read the book and study HARD to pass. She is nice and trys to be helpful.
This class was really hard but she is a good teacher. She is fun and that helps so you want to be in class. Her in class quizzes help you to understand the concepts she is teaching.
I hated this class with everything inside of me! It was boring and I don't feel I learned a thing. She doesn't teach very well and she doesn't explain anything. The only way you'll do good in this class is if you already know A LOT about chemistry!
not a hard class at all, if you are serious about getting an education. go to class, you get free points, read your book every so often, and study for tests, caka explained the difficult things and left the boring stuff out.
Dr. Caka is a great teacher. As long as you attend class you will get 100% on quizzes and close to it on Homework. She goes over homework and has study sessions for exams. She has study questions for every exam and is easy to work with. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Chemistry is hard, she does a great job teaching. Don't listen to the negative comments.
It was a realy fun class. She knows what she is teaching. Tests were clear you can even drop 1 test out of about 5 tests. You will do fine if you memorize "whole" text book and really understand, then you will get A. To get A, just miss 2 or 3 questions from each test. I got A but not easy class.
She is very helpful!
pay attention to lectures. her lectures follow the book. you only need the book to do homework. fairly easy class. her tests are not shocking, she tells you what to prepare for. listen and work hard, great prep for 1210!
DR Caka is a great teacher and really loves teaching Chemistry. If you really want to do well in the class, study, and talk to her if you have problems. If you wait until the last week of the semester to ask for help, she won't be very helpful, or nice.
I thought it was a hard class, the test are killer! She is a good teacher and a nice lady. So if you are going to take this class you should know that you must go to class everyday we have quizzes they are easy so it's important to go. You must read the chapters a lot and do all the problems at the end of the chapter if you want to pass the test!
She is a great teacher! Her class was fun and went by fast, and she rounded up tests so there was a nice bell curve. She gave clear expectations and her class was easy if you put in a little study time. Homework is done online (easiest i've ever done) and she does in class quizzes and gives you full credit on them. Take her!
She is a great teacher. She really got me ready for Chem 1210. People that don't like her are just mad because they are looking for an easy general class. She tells you whats on the test and if you do the problems in the book you will do great. Quizzes everyday but they are easy and just for making you go to class. Just show up to class.
this is a hard class, and don't take it in prep for chem 2010 you don't need it
Great professor! She is very helpful and loves the subject. Make sure you attend class daily. She has clicker quizzes that really affect your grade. DO THE HOMEWORK FROM THE BOOK!! STUDY REGULARLY!! I have to retake the class because I didn't study efficiently and I always crammed but I'm retaking the class from her.
She is hard. Her tests are so hard. Goodness. The sad thing is that she is the only teacher for 1010. Don't take her unless you want to read a lot out of the text book. She talks about random things in class, that are funny but I didn't learn anything from going to class. the quiz pts are helpful. Plain and simple she is HARD!!!
Dr. Caka is dang funny. It is refreshing to go hang out in her class for an hour. Everything is straight forward, and her example quizzes are perfect prep for her tests.
For a 1010 level class, I thought this it was taught at too high a level. The tests were really hard, and you have to do most of the learning on your own from the textbook. The lectures were very interesting, but not as helpful in studying. Be prepared to study for hours a week if you want to pass the exams. Attendance is a must for extra points.
CHEM 1110 wasn't a very easy class. Professor Caka used the online HW system which I found very useful. Her lectures were interesting too and easy to understand. The tests were hard and consisted of material from the online HW, lecture, and the textbook. I did well because I read the whole textbook. She's a good teacher, but it's a hard class.
In the class now, and she is very clear. You get what you put into it.
The lectures and tests are not related, there is missing information on the tests, she doesn't tell you really what to study for, probably the worst class I've ever taken. I'm a 3.75-4.0 GPA student and I'm getting a D in her class. It's awful and I'd never recommed her to ANYONE.
This teacher is super clear about what she expects. Attendance is worth 16% of the grade. HW is worth another 16%. The HW is online and you can redo it however many times you need to score a perfect 100%. Her lectures are worth coming to. Attendance and HW are easy A's to help boost your overall grade. Her name is pronounced CHAKA.
Caka is a great teacher to take chemistry from. It's a difficult subject, but she makes it very doable. You know exactly what to expect for exams(blackboard has study guides, practice tests, ect.) If a student doesn't take advantage of this, that's his/her own fault. I'm a 3.87 student and I'm getting...an A. No surprise there.
i took this class from professor young and she sucked i am now getting an A and this class rocks she is really willing to help if you put the effort i have a mtwf classes and she has came in every thursday to help with what ever you needed
Caka=Cake spelled oddly. Great class. Easy, but still learned a lot.
Dr. Caka is a very good teacher. She has a good time teaching and you can tell. She is kind and patient with students and she knows her stuff. I just suck at chemistry! The class went a little fast for me, so I got behind. I didn't take chemistry in high school though.
She's a fun teacher, willing to help her students, just come to class evryday MTWF(attendance is part of your grade), online HW really easy to do, exams every two chapters, reviews are in blackboard and also she will help you with any question if you go every Th.
Dr Caka was very grumpy and not very helpfull but the labs were fairly easy if you got help from the open help lab. This class helps with the lecture side big time so I suggest taking it even though its not required.
Dr. Caka is extremely helpful if you go to her for help during her office hours. However, her tests were harder than the questions listed in the textbook and they often were a little confusing (as in I couldn't always figure out what was being asked.)
Dr. Caka knows her stuff but it seems like she is bored with it. I expected chem lab to be more fun than it was. Still, she is helpful and walks around class checking on how you're doing. I felt like she was unclear a lot of times when describing the lab procedure. The couple of quizzes we took were really hard.I'd probably recommend her anyway.
Dr. Caka (pronounced Chaka) is a champ! She has a gift for explaining things clearly. Great sense of humor! Her tests are fine. Keep in mind, this is college and it's not good to be delinquent in studying then whine about getting a poor grade. Her grading system is fair. Chemistry is great! Know your functional groups, polyatomic ions, etc.
Dr. Caka explains this subject well, in real world experiences. Must attend MTWF. She even meets with those on Thurs to catch them up. Tests are tough. She is very reasonable if tests questions are confusing. If you have a choice on instructors, choose her. I ended up with an A for the class, but with a lot of hard work. Both thumbs up!
The class was tough but she was willing to help if you asked. Never having taken a chemistry class made 1110 harder, take 1010 if chem is new to you! She makes chemistry interesting, you can tell she loves chemistry. It's kinda contagious actually
She was an okay teacher if you were in class. I really thought she mislead the class for her final in the review session. I wouldn't recommend here, she warns you at the beginning of the semester.
Caka rocks! I had not had chem b4(not even high school) and thought this class was fun. Go to class, do the homework, study for tests and you will get an A.
I really enjoyed Dr. Caka as a professor. She was very helpful and went over her tests with me one on one. Her encouragement was one of the factors that made me decide to pursue a graduate degree after I finish up at UVU. I thought that she was a skilled, insightful teacher. Show up on time, though, or prepare to be docked!
Awesome! Makes chemistry fun. Dr. Caka will help you understand Chemistry. A student can make a strong grade with strong work. Would enjoy taking another chemistry class from her.
I loved her! Very good teacher, very nice, too. Expects that you will do a lot of work, but is happy to spend as much time as needed making sure you can do it.
Nevermind the non-chalant facade, she secretly demands respect and will humuliate you if you differ from her or are late on homework. I say it fondly. She can be really fun! She could be uber, but is depressed(?). Poor thing. Work hard, tame your opinion, and she'll be great. Thats true of any instructor. Do it not and you'll be sorry.
This class has very little room for difference. You have to do the work and turn it in on time. Somewhat confusing how class worked at the beginning of semester, but after getting the hang of it, should have been an easy A.
Great teacher she is entertaining in class and a great teacher. Tests aren't easy but if you study hard you will do well
Caka is funny, nice, and actually quite a good teacher. She's good at answering questions and making abstract concepts easy to grasp. But her tests are beastly. 80% of your grade is based on tests and they're anything but easy. There are often questions that were never mentioned in class and you have to really work for even decent grades.
Fantastic teacher. My 'low' rating in the Easiness category is meant to be a compliment. Her tests are hard. Annoying that you have to be in class for the clicker quizes? Please! If you are going to take a class in college, attend the class! And if you are looking for easiness in college, you are going to spend your life flipping burgers.
If you show up to class, take notes (fill in the outlines she gives you), and study for the tests, you will do fine. She is funny and kind. It's kind of annoying that you must be there for the clicker quizzes, but make sure to pay attention and do your best, and you shouldn't have a problem. She's good, but her students aren't.
I loved Prof. Caka. At first it was a little difficult because the labs were always a week or two ahead of lecture, but as long as you read the labs ahead of time, you will be fine. There is a ton of work considering this is only a 1 credit class, but I learned more and loved chem because of her class! Easy A as long as you come and do the work!
Hard class but take notes and attend and it's fine. DO the practice quizzes on bl.board and review notes; some tests questions are straight from them. Need a clicker to do daily quizzes. Does grade on a curve. Grade based only exams. Ask for a study guide & she'll provide one. Very willing to help in and out of class.Good teacher for a hard class!
Prof Caka is great! She is totally funny and has a great personality. You have to go to class and you have to study! The homework is hard but so are the test. If you learn the homework then you'll be set for the tests. Do your homework in the chem lab. They help a ton! If I had to take it again I would take it from her.
She isn't very helpful when there are 150 students in one class. There's no one-on-one with the teacher.
Prof. Caka is a great prof. It's hard for her to do one on one with students seeing as there are 150+ students. I personally didn't put forth my best effort and still managed a B+. It isn't that bad if you even just attend class and listen to what she's teaching. She does help if you make the effort to go talk to her.
Chem was not as bad as some of these ppl make it. Dr. Caka is a great teacher. Show up to class take notes, which you can get an outline from Dr. Caka. The test can be hard, but if you study your notes, read the chapters, and even setup study groups you will do great. I got an A in her class.
Caka is a a great professor! You have to go to class and study for the tests but other than that the class was quite easy. She is pretty funny and pretty easy to pay attention to. She was a great professor!
Dr. Fern Caka is one of the best professor ever. She is very smart and can be very funny. I love her teaching very much. I would take Chemistry from her.
Excellent instructor. I hate chemistry and had to work very hard but I was constantly able to access my grades/quiz scores/etc and she promptly replied to emails. Lots of homework but a good variety using both Canvas and Sapling was excellent. Wish I could take my next chemistry class from her.
I liked Prof. Caka. She is a funny lady. The class isn't bad if you study and read the book. She has quizzes everyday so you really can't skip class too much.
Great teacher, goes over her slides every day in class and posts them online if you miss class. Test were hard though. You need to be able to apply what you learned in further detail than what she goes over in class.
Professor Caka is super helpful and easy-going. We use a text written by the chemistry lab professors (and posted to Canvas, so it's free of charge), so all of the labs are very applicable and follow the chemistry classes very well. There are no tests or final. Grades are dependent on your pre and post labs, summaries, and data sheets.
Caka's class is a hybrid class which means you learn everything at home and then come to class with questions. She does a good job at going over questions and confusions during class, but if you don't like learning everything by yourself at home, don't take this professor. The tests are hard and in depth, but she curves it so it's not too bad
Caka is one of my favorite professors. The class was definitely hard, especially since it was a hybrid, but she takes her time to make sure you understand the subject. She cares about her students. Because it was hybrid, you had to learn everything at home and come to class with questions, but she was really good about answering them thoroughly.
For the work I put into this hybrid class I deserved an A, but received an A-. I got A's on all the homework, lectures, and in class experiments, but C's on all the tests. Two tests, one final. Professor was not helpful at all, and she tends to think we can figure out all the information just by reading a bunch of paragraphs in the lectures, but no
Homework is either really easy or fairly easy. Tests are wayyy harder than the homework. Doesn't make any sense to make the tests way more difficult than the material being covered. Caka doesn't seem like she has a passion for being an instructor. Youtube is way more helpful than she is. Be sure to get A's on the HW, do as best you can on tests.
I took the hybrid-course. Attending lecture is pointless but mandatory. Questions aren't really answered and half of the time is set aside for an in-class assignment that doesn't help you learn the material any better at all. When I had questions I mostly used internet research for help.
It was a hyrbrid. Attendance was mandatory but worthless. They went over questions and every time they did they ended up just confusing the class more and more. Homework, quizzes and assignments were way easier than the tests. Get ready for A LOT of busy work only to have to youtube everything later.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. It's a hybrid class so almost all of the learning is on your own. The beginning of the course was easier to teach myself, but I really struggled with the rest. Going to class is mandatory but it doesn't help you understand the material. I love Professor Caka though, she is understanding and funny.
I can't say enough good about Dr. Caka as a person and a professor. She cares about her students and makes time to help them understand the concepts. The class is hard and you have to put in the work, but a good grade is possible because it is based on participation, homework and tests.
Caka is one of the best teachers I ever had. She is caring and really knows her stuffe. The course is hybrid so you learn most of the material on your own, but if you didn't understand something you can ask in class. Her lectures are answering questions we struggled with and making sure we understand how to do it. Would recommend.
Dr. Fern Caka Phd has been one of my favorite teachers, if you put in the time she gives you more then enough tools to help you succeed. There was never a time she wasnt avalible to go over concepts, or review tests.
Loved this class! She really cares about students & to do well on the exams its important to READ the textbook. It was surprising how many students didnt get that and were upset lol I am terrible at math and I've never had a chemistry class so I was nervous but I did the assignments and read the book and I did great on the exams. Read, show up, BAM
Dr. Caka is awesome! I took the hybrid class, which I would totally recommend. Learning on my own is better for me with tough subjects, so I benefited from this class. If you dont go to class, you will lose a LOT of points. Make sure that you are caught up with ChemTutor and go to class and you should be good!
She is very unorganized, didnt know the material very well, and was very vague on grading expectations, I worked my butt off all semester and gave it 100% and still only got a B. Her tests were insanely hard, our class average was a 60% and she was happy, I would defiantly not take it from her again
Dr. C is amazing. I was warry of taking this class online but it was a great choice! She has lots of videos that walk you through each subject. Her tests are not curved, but you are allowed a note card on some of them. She also puts you in small group chats where you can ask and answer more questions. Put in the work and read the textbook.
Hard class, but I am not the best at Chemistry. She responds quickly and curves the grade a bit at the end of the semester, which is helpful. The class was online, so I didn't interact personally, but she seemed supportive and wanting her students to succeed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless your goal is to fail chemistry. She prides herself on not teaching and says we need to teach ourselves by reading the book which isn't a lot of help. She leaves class early all the time and does not give enough time to do the in class assignments. This class is just stressful.
honestly I wish I would have dropped this class when I could still get my money back. She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. She doesnt teach and leaves class early. Everyone in the class is so frustrated.
I have been going to the chemistry tutor lab for help on assignments and they are even confused as to what this professor wants. Today, I did an assignment with them and they were checking my answers and I only got 9 out of 20. The professor words things in such a way where nothing makes sense. Not even to the smartest people in school. UGH is all
if you want to teach yourself chemistry then take it from her. you can ask her the most basic chemistry question in class and she wont know how to answer it.
She is not a fair professor. No one ever gets the same test. The person I study with keeps getting way easier tests than I do. She is not fair and doesn't care about your grade.
This class was extremely hard. She didn't explain anything well, she made mistakes on the simplest concepts and confused everyone more, she leaves class early, the tests are extremely hard; I had this and 1 other class and I would spend hours a day (20+ a week) studying and I still didn't do that great. I would recommend not taking this from her.
This class was so hard for me because she didn't teach, I had to teach myself from the homework. She didn't explain concepts very well, and when I would go ask her for help she didn't give me any time. It was frustrating, if you want a good chemistry teacher take a different one if you can.
I'm going to lay it down for y'all. This class: hard. Your grade for the hybrid class is COMPLETELY up to you. The exams are ROUGH, you do get a notecard though. She puts up videos explaining the more difficult concepts, which helps a lot. She's an alright teacher. You teach yourself the material, so you really have to put in the effort.
If you are in this class DROP IT WHILE YOU CAN. She does not teach you. She just confuses you more. Her tests are ridiculous. I don't even think she could take her own tests. The average test score is an F and she is fine with that. Oh and the entire class has to stay HOURS after to try to do the IN-CLASS assignments.
Dr Caka is straight forward with her expectations and how to succeed in the class, but it is very homework heavy. If you keep up on chem tutor, do the reading, and come to class prepared then you'll do just fine. The tests are tough but she curves the final grade. She is also very understand and willing to help you if you put in the work.
Professor Caka was one of the worst professors I've ever had. The class average on our third exam was a 55% and she sent out an email saying "This is disappointing, you guys aren't working hard enough." She doesn't write her own tests - the computer randomly generates questions. I had to learn every concept by myself through YouTube videos.
Caka is a nice professor & actually super funny. However, you must pay attention at all costs.. if you miss one step you're screwed. She uses Chemtutor, so she doesn't teach in class, instead you teach yourself using an online quiz type of a thing.. sometimes 300 questions. In class you just sit there and ask questions. but u have to go for points
Tests are from the test at the back of the chapter so as long as you practice those tests you have a chance to pass class. Lots of information and weekly work. A LOT of math in this class. I took online class, didn't do good. HARD class. She is very willing to help and wants students to do good. Very approachable.
Caka is a great professor. She's always ready to help students succeed. I dread Chemistry but did well in this class. Every question on every test is directly from the back of the book, so I don't know why people are saying her tests are unexpectedly difficult. If you're self motivated and able to read and study effectively, you'll do just fine.
Professor STACKS on the homework. ChemTutor is an awful program and takes forever, not to mention reading/quizzes and end of chapter work, plus discussion boards on top of that. Way too much. Quizzes/test questions were often unclear on what format she wanted the answer. Even when I understood concepts, still did bad on tests for nit-picky errors.
Dr. Caka cares about your success. The textbook simplified the concepts a ton. A lot of extra credit was offered. The exams were based on homework questions in the back of the book and she offered M. teams meetings where you could literally ask about every single HW question. If you need an A for Chem 1110, Dr. C is the one to take it from.
Very tedious course work. They offer a lot of reference material; however, if you're like me it can be confusing when you're thrown 10 million different ways on how to solve one problem. ChemTutor is agonizing and if you type one thing in wrong you get docked points. A lot of opportunity for extra credit, but not enough for you to stay afloat.
Dr. Caka was a great chemistry teacher, even though she teaches online AND it's chemistry! If you don't grasp a concept after doing the chemTutor lecture there is a ton of extra material to help you understand it. if you still just don't get it, she is super accessible by email and through zoom (pick your teachersbrain) appointments, serious 1-on1
I did horribly in Chemistry in high school. Chemistry is hard. Expect that. If you don't read the textbook, take notes, and study for the recommended amount of hours, you will not pass and you shouldn't because it means that you don't understand Chemistry--yet. She explained Chemistry the best I have had any prof explain it. I understand it now,
Chemistry is HARD, just accept it now! You have to put in lots of effort and work to this class, but Prof Caka is so understanding and so helpful. She responds fast to messages and gives you so many resources for everything! Test material comes straight from practice problems in workbook. If you put in the hours, you'll be totally fine.
Your whole entire grade is basically based on proctored exams. She mainly does chem tutor and sometimes will have 300 questions. Too much homework, she does offer extra credit, but even that won't help your grade
Great professor who is willing to help you if you ask and put in the effort. All exams were based on homework questions from the textbook. If you practice the homework and textbook questions then you should be able to succeed. Note card was allowed on each test and she always helped me with any questions I had and great at explaining things.
great experience
Wow chemistry is so hard. But if you have to take a chemistry class, I would definitely recommend the online course with Caka and Davidson. It was so hard and I felt like dying so many times. But Caka and Davidson had a pretty good system figured out. I liked the ChemTutor lectures. They had online meetings where you could ask questions and such.
Do yourself a favor and take this class from another professor, or from another institution. Professor Caka is one of the worst professors I have had. Trying to reach her is difficult, when you do reach her she's impersonal and belittling. Her grading is a joke because she doesn't grade, a computer does, so if you misspell something, too bad.
Dr. C is great and she is hilarious. Always willing to help if you are struggling. Lots of homework send reading but if you are dedicated you will do fine.
Dr Caka is a fair professor. Do your work and you'll earn the grade you deserve. She is very willing to help when needed.
I had this class online so there wasn't much interaction. She seemed to be a tough grader and not really interested in her students.
Guys! Take Professor Caka! Chemistry is a difficult subject, but she makes this class doable! There is a lot of reading and homework, but it is all so beneficial and actually helps you learn the subject! If you put in the work in this class you will do great.
The one thing about this class is that all of the test questions will be given at the end of the textbook, the bad thing is that there are more than 100 questions per chapter and you are expected to study this all for the test. So if you don't have any outside commitments you will do great, meaning you have time for this Fern Caka is great though.
Dr. Caka gives you absolutely everything you need to succeed in CHEM 1110. The test questions are directly from the textbook, so you will succeed if you read each chapter and work each problem. She is helpful and responsive and gives MANY opportunities for extra credit. Put in the time and effort and you will do well!
Do all the questions in the back of the book for each chapter you go over as they will be your homework and exam questions. She gives out a lot of extra credit so read the syllabus when it comes to that. This class is hard but if you put in the work and show up to live meetings you will do just fine.
Professor Caka did an amazing job teaching an online course! I only have time to do online classes, and this one was probably the most organized and put together. She gives you a ton of opportunities for extra credit and is always available to answer questions. I could tell she really cared about her students and wanted us to succeed.
I took this class online and I truly believe that the professor you choose "makes it or breaks it", I think Dr. Caka did an amazing job, she is passionate about helping students understand chem.ChemTutor is used, which goes over the chapters and quizzes you about it. You will be good if you read and do the questions in the back of the book.
Professor Caka made this class way harder than it needed to be. ChemTutor is an absolute joke. I would spend 4 hours completing the ChemTutor and go to take the quiz and understand nothing. They tell you that they give extra credit and I completed every extra credit assignment but at the end of the semester they only boosted everyone's grades by 1%
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!! This class is online, so it might be tempting, however I would never recommend this class to anyone who values their sanity. 200 chemtutor questions every week is a joke, couldn't remember a thing. So much wrong about this class can't fit into 350 characters. Please please please just take the course from someone else.
Get ready to put in the effort for this class...The hardest part of the class is making sure you turn in the chemtutors on time. My biggest advice is to take notes when reading the chapter and not when doing the online lectures, it will save you so much time. The lectures are a bit of a joke and can be over 200 questions so start them ASAP.
They have to be the worst professors that I have ever had. They don't teach anything, it's all pointless assignments and the textbook. Professor Caka and Professor Davidson don't make accomadations for medical emergencies so if you are ever in the hospital, bring a computer to get stuff done while your there. Don't. Take. Chem. With. Them.
Professor Caka and Professor Davidson never fail to make to belittle you when you don't understand something. I have never had a professor make me feel like I couldn't do something before. If this class wasn't REQUIRED I wouldn't have taken it. (I have to take it again because I withdrew from the class cause I would have failed had I continued.)
I do not recommend this professor at all. I had to teach myself all of the material, and she was very belittling when I had problems. The class was extremely difficult, and I feel like they make it way harder than it needs to be. Chemtutor is the worst and I wouldn't even learn anything after working on it for hours. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Dr Caka is great. The way this online course is set up is terrible! Would not recommend- please dont take it. You get ZERO feedback on tests- meaning you have no idea what you get wrong and why- you just get a final grade. Almost every single question requires a type in response with accurate sig fig so there is a lot of room for error.
Dr Caka was so patient with me. I had technical issues unrelated to the course and she went out of her way to help. This course is hard! Follow ChemTutor and don't skimp on notes. Practice a lot! Tons of opportunity to do well.
This class is no walk in the park, but if you stay on top of the ChemTutor assignments and read the textbook, you can do well. Unstuck AI and practice problems really helped me prepare. Professor Caka wants you to succeed, just put in the work.
I'm not a chemistry person, I was so nervous to take this class, but Dr. Caka and Mr Davidson were amazing. I 100% had to put in the work, I worked so hard, read the textbook, did the assignments, and got an A. This isn't an easy class, but Dr. Caka and Mr. Davidson were amazing at explaining the concepts in ways that would make it click for me.
I'm a really good student and dedicated, and even so I felt like I was barely making it. For the online class, she uses ChemTutor which it does help with concepts, but it does not help with the problems and in fact you will get confused. I had to rely heavily on the book, and did most of my learning from the book by myself.
This class is way harder than it needs to be. Every test has end of the chapter ?s for it's ?s but there is 120-180 ?s every chapter.12chapter Plus another 200+ with Chem tutor every week Need to be studying every day to probably get an A. The book is the only thing that matters, and their duo teaching is useless. Would not recommend this teacher.
Hated this class so much.Terrible teaching, their lectures werent helpful and you basically have to teach yourself and the exams make or break your entire grade. They also are not very helpful with answering questions in a simple way. I have to retake the class from someone else,I got a C+ and that was after doing extra credit the entire semester.
3 professors teach this class and not 1 can make it make sense. WAY too hard for what it is. Tests (60% of grade--might as well be 100%) come straight from the textbook, ChemTutor is useless, and I learned nothing from them besides how to teach myself. Took it 3 times for the grade I needed. Save yourself—take Chem1110 with literally anyone else.
This class came off way too hard for what it needed to be. I was expected to know things for this class before hand which was not known to me as there are no prerequisites to this class. It did not feel there was any real structure to this class.
Teaching Style was terrible, zero patience, and the teaching is too much. They made this the hardest class I have ever taken and I already have done physiology and anatomy.
Please take Chem with someone else. I am a good student and struggled so so hard. You basically have to teach yourself and you will spend almost all of your time on homework. Even if you do great on all assigments the exams are worth 80% of grade and are extremely difficult. Please take with anyone else.
I took CHEM1110 online from Dr. Caka and had a great experience. She was incredibly kind and supportive, and she really cares. This class took a LOT of work, but that was compounded by the fact that I took it during second block of summer. For the tests: DO THE PROBLEMS IN THE TEXTBOOK. If you put the effort in, you can easily get an A.
This is probably the worst class ever Test are proctored online and you can't use your own calculator you have to use the one on the screen so tests take 10x longer than they should, and she makes you do a full 360 of your desk, ceiling, underneath your desk not once but THREE TIMES during the exam it is the most annoying thing in my life.
