He's a very nice guy, and doesnt have a problem with giving second chances. He's pretty lenient when it comes to essay revising but its very hard to understand what hes saying. He manages to keep students in class for an hour without really doing anything.
He definitely gives you chances with redoing your essays ..but if u don;t do it his way the second time..don;t expect a good grade! His classes can be boring..and the way he suddenly bursts out with these weird stories can we somewhat strange.
English is always my best class, so the essays were easy. Very strange professor. Likes to randomly talk about things that have nothing to do with the class. He constantly says "You know?", "Right?", and "Uh!" Very boring class overall.
He's decently easy, gives a lot of second chances and the essays and tests are pretty general topics. Deadlines are given way ahead of time. I skipped the final and he still let me make it up later on. Boring lessons but not bad to get through.
It's very easy to pass his class... not too much reading and not too much writing... can be boring, but i'd still take him again.
most boring class that i have ever taken and he takes attendence every class so you have to go. he gives lots of chances and if you go to his office hours he helps out alot.
This is the WORST teacher I ever had. You can't understand a word he's saying, when you do understand - he isn't talking about english, and his grading is completely wack. He only gives good grades to the class a** kissers and just fails everyone else. Get your money's worth and choose another "professor."
He's boring and you cannot understand what he says. I don't know why they put somebody who doesn't know how to speak as a communications teacher. He doesn't explain much, but I still got an A because the book was self-explanatory. Do the online quicces because it helps a lot on the test. READ the book. His tests come from the book's question bank.
he is a good teacher..its a little difficult to understand at times but he knows what he is doing. gives chances and will help you out. his online quizzes are easy and there are only 5 essays to write and they are less than 3 pages long.
BORING!The class is pretty easy and all his tests come from the book. Reading the chapters is a must!Many of my classmates had a hard time because of their language barrier. His grading style is very odd,you either have the work he wants or not.There are no in-between grades, it's either A, D, or F!He has very poor listening skills too! I got an A.

This class is very easy, but what the hell is this guy saying? He forces you to go to his boring ass classes just to have random outbursts on subjects that have nothing to do with english, or anything for that matter...besides, you can't even understand what he's saying cuz he has so much chalk in his mouth. If you need a class to take a nap in, I reccomend this class, just follow the deadlines on the sylabus and you'll be fine.

Do not take this prof. because the only way you'll be passing is if you're kissing a**..I wrote really good papers, all of them, and he still managed to give me a C on all of them and then he had the ba**s to tell me that my final draft sounded like a rough draft for my final paper..a**hole!! He's a horrible communicator that happens to teach... you guessed it, communications. i feel bad for his enc students. he's retarded and bias; yet it's an easy subject, so it balances out.
The professor is very boring and arrogant... but the activities and homeworks are actually helpful so it balances out. Class is not that hard but atendance is mandatory so you have to listen to him talking which is boring
My goodness this ia definitely the strangest teacher i have taken. He is soo boring and he likes his papers the way he likes if u donlt do his way ur definitely getting a C. Stick to his outline and u;ll pass but he;s just to boring and full of himself.
I got an A but the hours needed to meet the "professional standards" he asks for are substantial. Many students have a problem with this teacher, even though I didn't. Additionally, this class is very helpful (resume, employment, etc.), but if you know of a better teacher, I'd go elsewhere. Teacher has a problem communicating clearly.
This is a very good teacher.He grades fairly and is not that hard to pass. The homework is simply and theres barely any classwork. He does tend to bore u in class, put u can survive.
he is a complete idiot! i would never recomend him as a professor. he has no idea what he is talking about and i dont know how he even got a degree. his class is pretty easy, but he is unclear in his directions. when he grades your papers he writes little comments, but if you ask him how to fix it he has no clue what to tell you.

He's uhh...he's something alright. Hes a nice guy, kinda, he gives you chances to do your lost work and stuff, and uhh.....yeah...aside that...no..just no, run away, run very very very fast, very very very far. That is all.
Not a bad guy. He has a unique teaching style. Try to participate makes the class more fun. Make sure you choose a good group, it makes all the difference as groups projects are worth a good chunck of the final grade. Tests are staightforward study the online quizzes.
His class isn't *hard*, but attending the lectures, which are mandatory, is extremely boring and he tends to ramble on and go off on tangents. If you hate boring classes, he's not for you. If you don't care and just want to get through english without too much stress, go for it.
Any other rpofessor teaches better than him, however if you do the assignments and try to keep up you will fine. He talks about the assigments as if they were the hardest thing ever but is not like that.

This guy is Horrible. I'm not even going to lie!! He is completely incompetant!! He is unwilling to work with students!! The work is not difficult at all, but he will grade it unfairly every time. You cannot understand him, and if you talk to him privately, he doesnt let you speak and looks down on you like you're inferior to him. He's terrible!!
Professor Ganivet is a very tough critic. He promotes team work, and he is a good communicator. The class is hard; however, if you work hard, you will get a well deserved grade.
This is honestly the worst professor I have had. Not because what he asks is unreasonable, but because you can't understand what he's asking. I had to talk to him several times because he would dock me on my papers for things I was missing, even though it was right there. Very difficult to communicate with--and he's a communications professor.
You write three papers. Unless you're totally incompetent, he will not fail you. If you think you're going to be writing book reports in English class, think again. This is College.

A subjective teacher. He is supposed to teach communications, but actually he is the one who needs one. He calls the list right on the dot, treats you like a kid. I believe he is bi-polar. He is not a good professor at all. If you have another option, take it.
Class is pretty easy. No tests or final exam. You have to write 4 essays. Grades pretty fairly. Sometimes he is very unreasonable and not clear on the assignments. Very very very strange man. Will start yelling for no reason in an attempt to make a point, but he just ends up giving you a head ache. Says "ya know" way to much.
He's pretty picky-but honestly not out of this world picky-he just wants perfect business letters, resumes, budgets, etc. It's ridiculously easy material. Just spell check, use proper business language and you'll be fine. If not, copy the formats of the book. SUPER FREAKIN EASY!
Easy professor, but pretty annoying. Uses more "verbal fillers" than anyone I've ever heard. Grades very biased, so listen in class to what he's asking for. He'll give you more info than you need on syllabus, but you should be able to decipher out. Go out of the way to be respectful (don't argue), and he'll reward you.
Overall this class is easy. The annoying part is the teacher. He takes attendance EVERY class and you CANT be late.the tests are pretty easy even if u dont study.you just have to do all the assignments perfect.You have to do a speech and a presentation.its embaressing but it goes by quick.Its an easy A or B, just dont let the teacher get to you.

he does use "ya know" and "so forth" and wiggles his head around, making his neck jiggle...it`s always entertaining to watch him in the classroom. You get used to his babble after a while. A nice guy who wants to help, even if he doesnt know how to. He means well. He grades pretty easy, as long as you do the work and aren't rude to him. He's strict about cell phones, so put it away.
Great professor!knowledgable about his teaching and his subject. Very comprehensive individual. You learn so much in this class about many point of view. Grade base on presenting your speeches, paper and exams. Strongly reccommend him and not hard at all.

Where to start...very boring, harsh grader, allows 2 absences until he cuts your grade half a letter for every absence after. Some classes are pointless, did not use the book until the day of exams. You do learn some communication skills but at the end of the day you wish you can just tell this guy off and rant on how much his class sucks. Avoid!!
This is a very educated individual with a very good resume. However, it does not mean he can teach. His communication class is really useless and boring. His speaking skills leave much to desire and he does not have the capability to answer any questions directly. His lectures are endless rhetoric with stale jokes and awkward comments. It is bad.

Oh dear God. I am currently taking him for public speaking. Very VERY hard to understand. One would think FIU would get a professor speaking the Queen's English would be teaching this, not him. I don't see him as rude or biased (yet). The homework level is very low, like 6 assignments. Do I recommend you to take him? Only as a last minute option!
Professor Ganivet is the definition of incompetence. He is bias, treats you like a child, is rude, doesn't let you speak, and he is a horrible teacher. He's an easy grader when it comes to speeches, and usually compliments you when you do a good job. But, his class lessons aren't that good. He gets sidetracked a lot and is difficult to understand. Miss more than 7 classes and YOU WILL FAIL... Reminds me of Don Vitto.

This professor just gave me a C even though I deserved an A or B. He refused to answer any emails the whole last week and a half of class. In the mean time, he also left my paper sitting in his inbox for 2 weeks without picking it up. I also believe he grades people based on whether or not he likes them. Stay away. Truly terrible professor! He is rude, he doesn't communicate well, he interrupts often, he is extremely condescending, he has an answer even before you ask him a question (which means he doesn't listen and doesn't answer questions appropriately or at all). I aced the class, regardless of his random and odd jokes and stories and his "rudeness". Just get on his good side, don't talk back, don't ask stupid questions, GO TO CLASS, and do at least a decent job on your speeches and you'll get an A. There are 4 speeches, 1 paper, a midterm, and final.
This person teaches communications and cannot communicate. He has egotistical issues and will not answer questions because it literally hurts him to hear the opinion of another person. Class is simple and easy. It just the Professor he's the problem. For example, he cannot spell the word recommendation, but he is grading the students on grammar. There is no reason you should fail his class. Yes he is not your ideal professor, but what will you do when your boss isn't the greatest guy in the world? SUCK IT UP AND DO THE WORK. SIMPLE. You don't need to get on his good side. Be punctual and follow the clear guidelines for his assignments.

Easy A. Just follow the exact format he puts on the templates and you'll get a good grade. Speak in a loud voice, maintain eye contact with him, and wear professional attire for all the speeches.

Pros: + He is willing to offer assignment extensions to the class. + He can be more understanding when dealt with one-on-one. + His tests are online. Cons: - He interrupts people during their speeches. - His tests are not based on the class at all (2 tests for 20% of grade). - His grading is very ambiguous. Overall, wouldn't recommend.

The worst professor I've had thus far in college. Not only does he require 2 textbooks, it is nearly impossible to get an A. He does not give clear, instructions then penalizes you for it. The way he grades and the amount of work he asks for is ridiculous! It is nearly impossible to keep up as a full time student. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE!

You can pass relatively easily, but be warned that you cannot rest on your laurels when it comes time to prepare an essay under this man's baleful gaze. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of losing points because you had a sentence that used a passive voice when an active voice would've been more appropriate, look elsewhere.
FIU should be embarrassed to have this man as an FIU professor. This professor DOES NOT care about students. He isn't clear about assignment expectations & he doesn't answer students emails who may have concerns about grades. I've taken his in 2013 and 2016 hoping that he would have changed but he has NOT. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
