I took Mejia's class at my high school, very nice and helpful teacher I actually passed his class with an A. He gave lots of extra credit and you learn a lot in his class
He sounds very scripted, as if he practices to the perfect thing to say during lectures, instead of knowing his stuff right away and going with the flow. I wouldn't take him again, he somehow manages to make an interesting subject really dull.
Mejia cares about his students. Gives extra credit and is willing to help. Lectures are clear to follow and he posts them online for review. Attendance is mandatory and he expects students to participate. Very nice guy overall. He cares about his students.
Go to every lecture and you'll be fine for the every week quizzes. He likes you to pay attention and not to disturb the class, but you can ask as many questions as you want in his class. He is very helpful and gives a lot of time to prepare for midterm and final with study guides and for the research paper as well. Excellent professor!
He is a really great and fun professor who really cares about his students. I took his class HIST 18(Mexico history) on summer of 2016 and honestly this is the first class where i have learned a lot and it has kept me really interested. take this class with him. You won't regret it. He always counts in his class first before making a decision.
I took him for Mexican History at LBCC, he was great, really nice guy and cared for his students despite the fact that some were not very receptive to him at first. His lectures can be a bit long but very interesting, and he loves for people to talk. Very easy class and I learned a lot. I did not walk in super exited but he surpassed expectations!
Professor Mejia is probably one of the best professor's ELAC has to offer. He really cares about his students, and how they are doing in all of their classes. I wish there were more professor's like him, so, consider yourself LUCKY if you take his class. #CCCPAlumni
Amazing Professor definitely recommend! Midterm was multiple choice. Final was questions you had to answer and half a sheet was allowed. Gives out study guides in advance. Power points are available online which is really convenient if you write slow. 1 essay that is due the last week of class and it's about 3-5 .
No PowerPoints he teaches verbally only, boring lectures, everyone falls asleep. Don't recommend
Pretty cool professor. I got my exam this past week and I was happy that I did better than expected. There are no surprises in the exam. It seems that he loves history. Tries his best at keeping you engaged in spite of the classroom not having technology for presentations.
He is a very caring and wants the best for all his students. He is passionate about what he does and it shows within his lectures. He gets mad if you show up late, miss class, or if he sees you on your phone. But it's college and you shouldn't be doing those things already. All in all, he is great and truly cares about his students.
Mr. Mejia is the awesome professor ever. He is very caring for his students and give you great advice. All you have to do is listen in class, take notes, read the book, and you will pass the quiz and exam. He doesn't get mad if your late, he will just talk to you after class and ask. I recommend everyone to take his class
He's a great professor if you need any help with anything he'll be there to help you. Although his lectures are a bit confusing at times but ones you read you'll be fine. He let's you know whats gonna be on test before time (easy essays) so you have time to study.
he doesn't tell you if theres a midterm, he won't even tell you the questions are online he forgot to tell my class and still made us take the midterm. plus you need to read if you don't read and the class doesn't read he's going to give you essays every week on the chapter you needed to read.
Took his class this fall. Interesting lectures. Cares about students. Posts midterm/final exam questions on Canvas. He expects you to do well in his class. His class is doable if you try.
Mejia he is a good instructor he is very nice and cares about his studnets But he can get very strict I've only seen him upset when u r late to class he gave quizzes to the class to people who r late he hates tardiness. He really hates when u use ur phone in class especially when he's talking but he's still a good teacher he is not that hard.
pay attention to lectures and take good notes, it's the only source of information. Make sure you do the readings before class. He only has ONE midterm and ONE final. They are in-class essays. He makes you study 5 prompts but only 2 will be on the exams. Very easy class if you pay attention and put in the work. He is so nice and caring.
Took his online winter course. Readings are very long (and boring). Tests are very tough and you only get one hour to answer 47 questions, including two free-response ones. Considering his quizzes are 45 minutes for 15 multiple choice questions, I'd say he doesn't give nearly enough time on tests. Think twice before taking his online courses.
Took is online course this past fall. I had to switch to online from regular lecture. He is fair online and responsive. The assignments are primary source readings and then you answer questions based on those. Quizzes and exams are fairly easy since they are from the book. Read. You need to read. It's a history course.
Professor Mejia makes history relevant. I am taking him for history 12. He uses a free textbook and the class is lecture-heavy. Quizzes every week. Pointer: Be on time, do the reading, be present, and participate in discussions. There is work to do but it is interesting. One paper at the end of the semester , one midterm, and one, final.
Professor Mejia is great! His lectures are interesting. He gives you the midterm and final exam questions ahead of time for you to study and selects 2. Weekly quizzes and primary source readings. There is work to do and attendance is mandatory. Flake and you will fail. He encourages transfer students. Go to office hours to get to know him.
I enjoy his lectures, short quizzes, he help you with the analyzes of primary resources at class, and you must read the book in advance to take every class and definitely you will pass. Also, he is very reasonable for all, doesn't matter if you are international student or from here. just study, ask questions, read and pass his class
I am grateful I took his class this spring semester 2018. He is very caring and inspires his students to continue on with their education. He is a wonderful person and is a great teacher. I learned a lot in his class about history and life. He is one of the best teachers I have had.
I took Mejia last year for History 11. He is nice and can be strict. There were two exams and several easy quizzes in the class. He tries to make history interesting and relevant. Tips: be on time, do the reading, attend, and participate.
this is one of the best professors i have ever taken at ELAC. he really cares about his students. i have taken multiple classes with him and i enjoy history much more now than i ever have before. be ready to read! he expects you to know what you're talking about when writing your papers. loved all his classes!
lectures can be better. tests are difficult. loses it when you don't show up or use your phone. lectures are boring don't take nice guy but can be better.
The class was straight-forward, interesting and lecture-heavy. He does give some group readings. Test were easy and from the textbook and lectures. There was extra credit. I started with a C and did all extra credit, improved my reading, and improved on my final and pulled an A. Makes history relatable. I recommend him. See him during office hours.
Took him for both history 11 and 12. Hes a nice man and hell make time for you if you seek him out. Material is very general. Gives out interesting readings in class. Also, grading is very much based on in class readings, essays, midterm and final. Extra credit was offered in my classa short paper on your visit to a museum.
Professor Mejia is absolutely amazing. Professor gives extra credit, visit to the museum. Highly recommend this professor, not only is he caring, he was able to remember his student's name in such a short time frame.
He can be very strict with attendance and phone use in class. So long as you pay attention and do the work hell leave you pretty much alone but go see him at his office.
I personally dont like history but this class was very entertaining. The professor is very kind and will push you to do better if he feels you are falling behind. There are 5 short essays that you have to do. Textbook is not required. You must show up to class or he will drop you. Overall i would take this class again!
i am taking him rn. reading is mandatory and participation is part of your grade.
He knows a lot about History. He explains the material in a very fun way. I recommend taking this class with him.
Prof. Mejia is a bad professor but I've had better. The only issue is that I have other classes to work on and would be dock points if I didn't post a discussion by Wednesday(due date says Friday). DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Besides that, no issues and you read a lot on your own. Kudos to him for a free textbook!
Professor Mejia provides a clear grading criteria and let's you know right off the bat of his expectations from his students. His class was only difficult for me because I do not enjoy history. He is very firm and strict so don't take that lightly. He also expects a lot of elaborating when it comes to participation for points.
Professor Mejia was strict at first but then he became lenient. His class consists of 4 take-home essays, pop quizzes in each class, analyzing primacy resources, and 2 exams, extra credit, free textbook and made class lecture fun! He's a funny guy, very smart, and really cares about his students. Participation is a must to get an A in this class!!
I would not take this professor again! If you aren't a history major then don't bother taking him. He is by far the worst professor I've taken online. For discussions you really have to go into depth in order to get full credit. You are required to turn in your assignments through a site that checks for plagiarism I didn't even know I was doing.
Easy is certainly relative term. But I will say that this professor has a well structured online class that makes it easy for students to succeed. As long as you follow his directions and write in a thought provoking way you should do very well in this class. By the way, don't miss any deadlines! No make up work! xtra credit given.
Amazing professor, this class changed the way I see our society in so many ways. Just go for it guys! you wont regret.
He was rude and made comments on students who were failing in a negative way. He gave me an assignment back that said, your grade in this class is very low. Consider taking it in another semester & it was only the Monday of the second wk class had started. I passed with a B, but the whole semester I felt very uncomfortable being in his class.
Took him for labor history. We met in person and then online. Class material is interesting. There is one chapter per week, extra credit. Online he is fair. Elaborate on your discussions. Took History, 1, 11, 12, 81 with him.
Took his online class, it was horrible. Get ready to take plagiarism quiz and write 200+ words per question. I thought it was history class not English. Discussions must go in-depth or you will get a 5 out of 10. There is a lot of work. Have to do a 2 page essay, a discussion post, and an exam/quiz. Every week!!!!! Wont take again.
Truly a great teacher who is passionate about what he teaches. All you really need to do is pay attention and do your work and you will be fine. One discussion board, one single spaced analysis every week. Quiz every other week. Extra credit is an option. He takes plagiarism offenses seriously. Material is interesting. Accessible and caring.
Professor Mejia is a great professor. His lectures are very interesting. Participation will get you a higher grade, so make sure you engage in the group discussions. Overall, great professor. Looking to see if he has other classes so I can take them next semester.
Loved this class with Professor Mejia. I took him for Spring pre-covid and thought it was an easy A. As long as you take notes, pay attention to lectures, and explain yourself thoroughly you will pass. However, if you're lazy and don't like writing, then this is not the class for you. Highly recommend this class, you will learn so much.
Mejia is great! His directions are clear. Its an easy class. Assignments are doable. I took him both online and in person. Online is pretty much independent work. He gives good feedback though.
He's a good professor overall. The class consists of essays, discussions, quizzes. Not hard at all. I'm taking him for western civ (hist 1) in the winter and in person. He's a nice guy but you have to reach out if you're struggling like me.
A textbook is provided for you. Every week, you are required to read a chapter and take a multiple-choice quiz. Contacting is easy. There is a mandatory midterm and final exams, and optional extra-credit. The extra credit helps when you're between grades so it was helpful to get from C to B. Took the short term course.
Please do not take. The discussions need to be posted once in a span of three days. Does not let you see scores right away when taking test. Assignments are submitted to turnitin and you must have a minimum of 250 words and similarity score of 10%. It marks sentence believed to be copied. You only have one attempt. Prepare for grade lower than a B.
I took his online class. It's an easy class. There are quizzes, short writing papers, and online discussions. Directions are clear. Go see him during office hours if you have questions. He is responsive and caring. If you put the effort and complete all assignments you should earn an easy A. Extra credit does help. It's a virtual museum visit.
Good overall prof. He made it easy to be interested in history. Each week there are readings, usually a chapter and a primary source. Class meets twice a week. On the first class he lectures, and on the second we go over the readings for the week. It is a very easy class. Exams are take home essays. He gave extra credit.
He's of my favorite Professors. Although I already love history, Professor Mejia found a way to make it better. He keeps lectures entertaining. Expect to do some writing and if in person discussions based on readings for the week.
Overall this class is doable. There are mini essays ever week, but they are easy. My main concern is the surprise required essay at the end of the semester. That was out of left field and I did not appreciate that.
Loved the class-lots of humor in a sort of dry topic, history of working class. He made it interesting. Enthusiastic. I loved going to class. One thing to keep in mind is participation. He expects students to discuss the readings for the week.
Professor Mejia's class was great. He teaches very political things but does a good job at letting everyone's opinions be heard, which is a tough thing to do at college. His class wasn't hard at all but it's easy to fall behind on the weekly work, participating in class is the easiest way to get points. He relates the lessons to today's issues.
Professor Mejia made California history interesting. The class consisted of discussions, short essays and reviewing primary sources. The readings were ok. The primary source material was more interesting. He included many different perspectives. I have taken him in person also for labor history. He includes art, media, and film in classes.
I took him for Spring 2023. Probably one of the best history professors I have taken in a long time. He's pretty easy and as long as you participate and do the work in time you will pass. i'd rate him a good 9/10!
He is awesome! He is flexible and understandable. His class was online only. He available and answers e-mail quickly. I enjoyed taking his class. His gradings are easy just finished the assignments.
Nice professor overall. You have to participate in class discussions. Gives out primary sources to analyze in class. I am an introvert. It was hard to do well in first weeks but then participated and picked up my grade. He will call you out for BS. Expects you to do the readings and talk about them to others. Makes history relevant.
Fairly easy class. He gives good feedback and will tell you what you need to improve on. Not an overwhelming amount of class work. Highly recommend this professor.
Took him last year for women's history. He talked about feminist, lgbtq, and gender theory. Work was ok. There is usually a discussion board, and primary source readings related to the time we study. Took him for in person also. Much better because you get to discuss work with others.
for my first week, im not liking the class. he's just assigning us to read the chapters in the textbook and write our own notes. its a lot and its frustrating that we have to write a lot in order to participate in discussions because ITS MANDATORY.
I did learn a lot and passed! But Every assignment is 250+ words including discussions & peer comments of 250 words that need to be written in a 3 day span of each other. Assignments must have a similarity score of 10% that is submitted into Turnitin. He won't show you your grade right away and No late work is accepted/unless approved with reason.
Took him for lgbt history. He lectures one day and does reading discussions in class. Grades depend on in-class primary source readings and participation on discussions. I did well. its a hands on class and you have to be present for you to do well. A lot of students do not participate in class and end up failing. Do the readings and you'll be fine
This lecturer does not have any learning to give his students especially online students. He makes us read a chapter every week with no lecture notes to at least guide us or explain things that might not be clear. All he cares about is catching the faults of students instead of helping them to succeed.
Taking him online. There is discussion board and history readings every week. Work is manageable. You have to keep directions in mind or it will affect your grade. Online is pretty much independent work with discussion with other students. Other assignments are independent reading and writing. He grades fairly.
Mejia is great especially when it comes to LGBTQIA history. We get to talk about histories not well known. He lets his students lead discussions based on the readings. That makes learning better.
Professor Mejia is awesome! He's incredibly nice and always attentive to students' needs. His passion for history really shows in his teaching. Each class is engaging and informative. He enjoys the subject and makes it enjoyable for everyone. Highly recommend taking his in-person classes!
Professor Mejia is a goof professor but his class requires reading to participate what you found interesting in each chapter. He's passionate about history which make his lectures interesting. His work isn't hard whatsoever.
A sweetheart & a gem. Pay attention to the lectures & do the dang readings, you'll be fine. Textbook necessary but WHAT!? YOU'RE PROVIDED FREE ACCESS TO THE BOOK ONLINE THANKS TO THIS GUY! Gracias, Professor Mejia.
In terms of Professor Mejia, do the readings; that in and of itself is half the battle. Mejia is a kinda and passionate man who wants nothing more than engaged students who are able to articulate and express that they actually learned something in his classes. He's as sweet as they come, protect this man at all costs. Just read and you will be ok
After taking this professor I dislike the subject now and switched my major! Instead of helping students understand, he only enjoys catching their mistakes and calling them out on them in a negative way. He will try to find a way to argue with you and he's a tough grader. If you're passionate about history do not take this professor.
Professor Mejia loves history and teaches with enthusiasm. Online he is fair but demanding. He gives helpful feedback. The readings are decent, and he relates history to current issues. He expects good writing and discussions with historical context. Following his instructions is key. His teaching is ideal for students aiming to transfer.
Took him for art history at LA Harbor, then followed him to ELAC for Humanities and History. He's a great professor who truly cares about his students. Lectures are intense, so show up and take detailed notes. Exams are based on both lectures and textbooks, so make sure to keep up with both. If you miss a class, you'll struggle to catch up.
First week and bro gave us two different class meeting times and refuses to answer or confirm when we're supposed to meet. Show up to school and good luck! maybe he'll be there!!
He is not a very good teacher at all!!
Professor Mejia is an good history teacher who truly brings the subject to life. He answers questions in class and during discussions. I like how organized the classes is with a clear structure. He's available to answer questions when needed. Good over all guy.
I'm not an art buff, but I really enjoyed this class. Hiss passion and incorporation of art history made each session engaging. Discussions can be challenging, but keeping up with readings helps. While it's not an easy class, the effort is worthwhile. I gained a deeper appreciation for art. His class was educational and rewarding.
Professor Mejia is very nice and he is concerned about his students. His tests were not difficult if you do all your readings and paid attention in class. There was only one midterm in class and a final paper. My advice to you is to read the questions carefully before you answer them.
Professor Mejia's history class was good. He encourages participation and attendance. Lectures and discussions make class enjoyable. You'll either love him or hate him tbh.
Professor Mejia is an excellent and caring instructor. He assigns a lot of work, but it's manageable if you stay on top of readings and attend class regularly. Definitely worth the effort to succeed!
Made history really really boring. Long chapters every week followed by 250 word discussions and primary source mini essays. Little to no input from teacher. He isn't clear on why he won't give you full credit on assignments. Only one attempt for quizzes. Wouldn't recommend.
He encourages independent learning in the online environment and focuses on primary sources to help develop critical thinking. If you enjoy a self-directed course, it's a good choice. Directions and grading criteria are clear but it's not the best option if you prefer a lot of hand holding.
Professor mejia for humaniteis was great. super knowledgeable and kept lectures interesting. attendance is important since there's always an in-class assignment. no tolerance for lateness, and late work is only okay occasionally. he is fair and accessible if you stay on top of things.
Turn in all your work and you will get an A. The class is easy, if not a bit boring, and his humor can be off -putting at times. Aside from this, he responds to emails and is prompt with his grading.
He makes history interesting. Covers a high volume of information just for your general knowledge. Take home essay exams are essay based and the textbook and lectures covers everything needed for both. Good class.
Overall this professor was awful. He pushes his ideologies in lecture and talks negatively about students who are failing. He also does not care about helping his students.
The material is interesting, especially the in-class discussions on history documents. Tests are fair and manageable if you keep up with the readings. Communication is clear. He won't baby you, but that's a good thing. High expectations, but if you put in the effort, you'll learn a lot. Definitely recommend.
The class is straightforward, and the professor makes everything clear. He has high expectations, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a lot. Take him if you need a history course.
Professor is awesome! He really pushes you to work hard. Make sure to read, show up on time, and attend all lectures. There's always an assignment that counts towards your grade. Definitely recommend!
Bad Professor, likes to talk down on students instead of helping.
Great professor. I took him for LGBT history, and he's excellent at representing marginalized communities. His mentorship helped me get into UCLA. At first, I was unsure, but after visiting office hours, I found him helpful. The class is moderate in difficulty, with a lot of work. A lot of reading and discussions.
It's a easy class. There is work to do and he's not really flexible in assignments. There is work in all sessions. He expects attendance but all work is very easy and doable.
A lot of in class analysis and reading analysis. You'll enjoy his class overall. You will do fine but remember that he expects you to read and discuss readings. You are expected to participate in class by voicing your opinion about the readings. Class is highly participatory.
I took his art history class last semester and really liked it. He includes artists that aren't usually talked about, which was super interesting. He explains theory in a way that's easy to get and likes to discuss and analyze art in class. If you're into art and want to hear different perspectives you'll probably enjoy it.
Very sweet professors, As long as you show you care about the class he will work with you. He deeply cares about his students and is very sweet. Class overall was fun and easy
Took his course over the summer, the course was purely reading and writing, except for the mid-term and final, which were all MCQs. Probably the easiest grader I've ever had, pretty sure he doesn't even actually read your papers, just gives you full credit. Overall, a good teacher, as long as you put the effort in, you should do fine.
Took his class in spring. The professor is clear, helpful, and easy to reach. Early assignments seem like a lot but settle into a manageable pace. Mostly reading and writing. Tests are take home essays. Grading is easy if you do the work.
Took his class at LA Trade. It was in person. Class is interesting, work is manageable, he does do some in class work so attendance was kind of important. Easy. I'm enrolled in his online course now.
Does not check his inbox on Canvas. I wouldn't even recommend my enemy this class. Do not take. Treats his class like an English class.
Professor Mejia's class is really easy online. Just do the work and stay on top of assignments. He posts PowerPoints and grades fast. He will drop you if you skip work, but it's a good manageable class.
Professor is great at making history feel relevant to today. There's a lot of work and assignments every class, but he's flexible with take-home exams and offers extra credit at the end. Enjoyable lectures and discussions.
Professor Mejia's lectures are clear and relevant. Attendance and strong notes matter, and while exams are fair, expect frequent in-person assignments.
Great prof. Honestly, he's so straightforward and chill. He follows his syllabus like crazy, so make sure you understand it. Attendance does matter, so don't miss, but honestly recommend him. If you guys do the Primary Source and the online reading, you should have no issue having an A+.
This professor is honestly one of the best teachers I've ever have. You will have two assignments a week, the grading is extremely clear. He answers your questions provide spot on feedback and is responsive to emails. He is strict with dates but if you email him he will work for you. Not once have I felt unseen and welcomed.
