AWESOME prof! An international businessman..very experience and uses his many personal experiences as examples for class discussions. Always up for talking whether it be school or your personal life. Will help you out with anything including the business plan. His class is relatively easy- read the chapters. Great mentor, great guy. :)
love the accent!
He is sooo interesting!!! Lots of real world experiences and stories. He has a great sense of humor and a very human touch. Always available if you have a problem of any kind--school or personal. He's also really good looking!!!
He joked in class today about the chili peppers he's received. It must be because of his cool accent and the fact that JMU girls drink a lot. I love his class. Its a refreshing change from operations class. He remembers my name even though he has over 100 other students. I dig that. I'll give a chili pepper just for that.
I'd definitely recommend this class! He knows his stuff, and he keeps the class really upbeat. Management can be dry but his class is really colorful. Maybe it's his bright purple shirts...or his saucy accent! Read the material, he's fair and straightforward
Best prof I've had at JMU. Even at 9AM, he makes class fun. I wish I was a management major so I could take another class from him!
This is by far my favorite professor so far at JMU. He relates everything to real world experiences which he has a lot of and he makes class enjoyable and fun. I want to show up to class just to hear what else he is going to say! I have 8am's with him and im def not a morning person but he makes it worthwhile to wake up for class! LOVE him
Gives great examples in class and very helpful in office hours. Tests are easy to do well on without much effort, just be sure to look at the chapters because he doesn't usually focus on what is in the text during class. Definitely a distraction to the girls in class.
best professor i've had so far. he tells great stories about his experiences that actually relate to the material being taught. he makes an effort to get to know all of his students and to really help eveyone get the best grade possible.
Great guy, will help you in any way possible. Class is not hard he wants you to do well.
Class was very easy, almost to the point of being a joke. Show up and you're pretty much guaranteed a B.
Great Guy! Very supportive and teaches using class discussion and illustrations from his own life. Watch out for the "Crocs, mate! They'll get you there!" Story...:)
loved pargas!!he was such an awesome teacher..made class interesting and fun with real life examples..he has tons of international experience..tests were really easy..loved his accent too!!he is a really great teacher, best class out of cob 300..take him!!
he's full of himself and likes to talk about his experiences, for sure. go to class and take mad notes, because his tests are based mostly around them (what are mcdonald's burgers made of in india? really?). he is also really strict about the business plan and the benchmarks... beware.
Really interesting class and useful stuff you can put to use in business and also in your personal life. I highly recommend him. His exams are tough though, so study...
Tests are very subjective, don't measure your knowledge on the subject.
pretty much the best class out of 300. not a lot of work, but the tests are subjective so don't think it's an easy A. I would recommend him!
good guy, tests aren't easy but a B is very very attainable. grades the business plans very fairly, the best 300 prof i had out of the 4
Pargas changed his difficulty from prior years...that being said, PARTICIPATE make sure he knows you from day one. Test are ok...study though in advance including what he says
can be a stickler at times, but a really cool guy and good professor. tests are OK, the final was easy, and he gives a lot of joke assignments to boost your grade. and, couldn't have been cooler and more fair when it came to the business plans.
Best prof in the College of Business and best class so far. Real life experience, fun, interesting, really helpful and really hot.
AWESOME prof! An international businessman..very experienced and uses his many personal experiences as examples. Always up for talking whether it be school or your personal life. Will help you out with anything including personal problems. His class is interesting and I learned tons, but not an easy grader. Great mentor, great guy, take him!
He is is by far my favorite professor so far at JMU. He relates everything to real world experiences which he has a lot of and he makes class enjoyable and fun. I want to show up to class just to hear what else he is going to say! I have 8am's with him and im def not a morning person but he makes it worthwhile to wake up for class! LOVE him
Pargas is the man. Period. Easily the best professor in the COB with the most real-world experience. Don't forget your namecard.
Very likeable guy! Enjoy listening to his stories, however most of what he says in class will not help you on the tests. The textbook is horrible. It's impossible to navigate as it a bunch of information copy and pasted from other places by the MGMT professors. Enjoyeable class, but not enjoyeable studying.
Pargas is one of my favorite professors so far at JMU. It takes a solid professor to make COB 300 bearable and he definitely did. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to see all of us succeed. Always willing to help out and make sure you understand the material. Take the time to meet him, you won't be sorry you did.
Great teacher, uses real world examples from his extensive background. Awesome at facilitating class discussions. Plays lots of movie clips during class and really gets everyone involved. Nice guy, demands respect and professionalism, but sees potential in every students and strives to help you reach your potential. Definitely recommend.
Professor Pargas is a fantastic professor. He genuinely cares about his students and is the only teacher I had in 300 who I can really say that about. His tests are WAY too hard for his subject matter, but it's still not too hard to get a B or B- as long as you show up to class. Also, PARTICIPATE! It means a lot to him and he'll reward you for it.
Pargas is a great professor. He is inspiring and the best lessons I learned were about life, not management. The class is fairly easy as long as you read the chapters before tests. Mostly memorization and he helps you with what to focus on. Make sure your participate in class almost every day.
Motivational lectures. Did not mind attending classes. Impressive life resume which he'll often relate the class material to. Material is easy but the tests' average are always low. Recommend reading textbooks for tests.
Great guy, very helpful during office hours. I liked that he didn't make us learn all the silly definitions of interpersonal skills and focused instead on real-world application. Note: he likes to bring things back to international business, which I liked as an IBUS major
Hands down the best professor I've had so far in my college experience. He makes lectures enjoyable, applying the material to life lessons. Gives great advice based on his impressive experience. Easy B, a little trickier to get an A, but definitely doable. Take him, you wont regret it.
One of my favorite professors so far. You learn a lot from the class because he teaches from his personal experiences. It's not hard, but you do need to put some effort into your work.
Great guy, has ton a ton of really cool stuff in his life. Tests are tricky, its hard to get above a B+. Most of the class is fair, but remember all of his stories, they make up a bunch of the questions on tests. also, side bars and examples in the textbook are often used. B+ seemed to be the average grade in my class
Pargas is a cool guy and he has a lot of experience in management so he has a lot of stories to share. His exams are unnecessarily hard. You have to go to class because a lot of test questions come from class discussions.
Pargas is one of my favorite professors at JMU, for sure. He cares about his students and is willing to go the extra mile if you are. His lectures are filled with interesting life stories and lessons. You need to be in class to catch these nuances that will definitely be on the test! I highly recommend him!!
Pargas is charismatic. He believes in professionalism so take class seriously. His tests are HARD and primarily based on his lectures so pay attention and be ready for some subjective questions. I found much of the material to be overgeneralized and, quite frankly, useless. Just come to class and pay attention and you should do fine.
He seems intimidating at first but over time you'll find he's a really nice guy, one of my favorite professors at JMU! Lectures are always exciting and he really wants you to be successful, some things he teaches aren't necessarily even related to management but just life lessons and professional advice
Professor Pargas is one of the greatest teachers i've had at JMU so far. He's always there for his students and will cheer you on no matter what. Be careful because his tests rely HEAVILY on in class examples. Any funny story or example he gives write down! He is also a little stricter on the business plan than you'd expect.
Cool guy overall but there are small things about him that I don't like. His tests can be tricky at times, and due to English not quite being his first language, some of the questions aren't clear. He can be funny sometimes, but other times he can make you feel uncomfortable to say the least. Also, if you miss a class that he takes attendance, -10
Show up to class, takes attendance at random and 1 absence 1% off your total grade. It can add up. Also, tests are HEAVILY based on what he covers during lecture including videos/stories/etc. Don't sleep on his quizzes, some of the questions can be tricky so make sure to read whatever material he assigns thoroughly.. Barely used the book.
Great prof with real world experience
Pargas is the best Prof I've had at JMU. He is very experienced in the business world and truly cares about the success of the students. He is a motivator and understands that students have other obligations outside of class. His class is the perfect balance between being challenged to learn, but not overwhelming. Pay attention is class
Best COB300 professor I had taken. He actually teaches from experience and has some interesting stories. He really cares about students and wants you to succeed. He has 3-4 tests, most of the questions come from what you hear in class so make sure you go. His classes are interesting anyways.
He is the best! Lectures are interesting and tests are based mostly off what he says in class so take good notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but he randomly takes it. Helpful on the BP and overall a great professor, learned a lot of life lessons not just class material. Dont buy the textbook he never uses it, tests and quizzes are all from class
Pargas is one of the best professors that I have had at JMU. You don't need the textbook (I never read it). Tests are based very heavily from in class examples so make sure you write down all of the stories/outcomes of the stories that he tells you! He genuinely cares about his students and will do anything he can to help. Definitely my favorite!
Pargas is the most inspirational human ever. He made every class worth while and his tests are mostly based on his lectures, so go to class! If you want an A, read the text book because he makes some test questions from examples in the chapters as well.
Good professor. I think he actually enjoys teaching so that's definitely a plus. He's a pretty nice guy. Gives you good feedback on the project. You watch a decent amount of videos in class and often have discussions about them as well as do case studies. Grading is not too tough. His tests are mostly from lectures so you do have to attend.
This guy is awesome. He's had so much real life experience that he wants to give to the students to benefit us. You need to pay attention in his classes to do well on the tests (of which there are two and no final), but it isn't hard to pay attention because its so interesting. This class will be an enjoyable breeze
This is what REAL teaching is meant to be like! Engaging, interactive, completely self-created topics and entertaining from his endless REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES! He truly loves/believes in making the next generation of business students better. Cannot say enough good, against all the other 300 profs, there is NO comparison, Pargas is by far the best!
Tests are all based off of stories he tells and stuff he talks about in class, can be really unforgiving because he will bring up things he only mentioned once as a side comment. Also really opinionated and can make class discussion really one sided.
I love this man so much, he is the GOAT. With regards to tests, super easy. Make sure you read the textbook for the first test and the second test is all from the power points. Pay attention to his stories in class because he will bring those up on tests. Attendance is randomly taken, but go to his class, they're enjoyable.
He is an amazing professor. He really cares about and believes in his students. His tests can be tricky because the questions tend to be ambiguous and subjective. You'll learn much more than just management in his class.
Pargas is a great professor! He gives real life examples from his experience in the outside world. Go to class because he will give test questions that come straight from lectures. Only two exams, read the book for the first one and study the powerpoints for the second.
Pargas is the best. If you get lucky enough to have him for 300, his class will offset your marketing and ops grades. Read the textbook, pay attention during lecture. Take notes on his stories and movies in class. Just sucks that you only get 2 tests so study hard. He is so inspirational and a true mentor. I would go back to his class anyday.
Pargas is the best. He really cares about the well-being of the students and it seems like he's more focused on our futures than our grades. Plus, he has some interesting TED talks and his lectures are VERY interesting. He takes attendance randomly so it's better to just go but it's worth it and his tests are pretty easy. (MUST READ BOOK FOR TESTS)
Pargas is the best professor at JMU. I don't have enough good things to say about this man. He really cares about each of his students and makes class so interesting and funny. I've never been happier with my major choice (management) after taking his COB300 class. Would take him again 10x over.
At first, I must say I was not a fan of Pargas. He appeared to have favorite students and give them special attention and treatment. That is, until I showed interest in the class and spoke with him over email and in person. I then realized he treats all his students this way if you show you care about the class. Great man and great professor.
Tests are really subjective. Test Qs from what he talks about in class so pay attention and take notes about his stories and videos from class. Most of the time he talks about random life stuff and doesnt follow the textbook so make sure to read it before the tests. Weird interactions with female students, beware. Nice guy but definitely strange.
Professor Pargas is, by far, the best professor I've had at JMU. He cares so deeply for each of his students, and works hard to keep everyone engaged in class. Just a few tips: read the book, NEVER forget your nametag, speak up in class, get to know the man. I wish I could take him for every single one of my upper level management courses!
Pargas is a very knowledgeable prof. with great lectures. He can be overwhelming at times but really cares/wants you to learn. His exams are EXTREMELY specific. Take good notes, rewatch videos he shows, READ the textbook and look for details. The material isn't hard but he does seem to overcomplicate it on exams. Very helpful with a business plan.
Fantastic professor. You have to go to class as his lectures cover exactly what is going to be on the exam, but that should not be an issue after listening to just one of his lectures. He is inspiring, extremely knowledgeable, and accommodating. I wish i could take him again but sadly i cannot
Management is so easy but sitting through his lectures is painful. This guy genuinely hates living in America and will not be shy about how bad of a country he thinks it is. You will not learn much about management but you will learn a ton about his leftist political ideology. Enjoy!
Professor Pargas is so inspiring and I have never enjoyed a class more than this one.
Love Professor Pargas. Tests are a lot based on things he says in class that are not on the powerpoints. Just listen in class and you'll do well. His lectures are interesting so it shouldn't be hard to listen.
Great guy with a true passion for teaching. He has been all around the world and knows a thing or two about managing. He is amazingly fair and if you show interest, then he'll show it back. Don't be late to class!
Pargas is a great guy, but he can not keep his political views out of his teaching. His test questions are so specific. Not even about your text book. His questions are derived from his stories and videos played in class. "What were Denzel Washington's words in this clip." Terrible class, haven't learned a thing, but i'm getting an A.
Professor Pargas really cares about his students and his lectures are very engaging. He tells stories from his real experience that apply to management in a broader scope. However, his tests are exactly based on those stories so you don't learn much except to memorize random stories throughout class rather than how to apply those stories.
Prof Pargas is a great professor, he knows his material really well. However, 90% of exams are based on in class lectures and examples, so if you aren't taking super detailed notes and memorizing all the stories / examples, you won't do well. He is super nice & definitely knows his stuff but the tests can be frustrating.
Cares about students and wants the best for them, so I gave a 2 instead of 1. Even though I agree with his views, he constantly pushes opinions onto the students . You don't learn objectively, only his subjective ideas. Tests and assignments have nothing to do with textbook, only from random things he says in lecture, barely even about management.
Professor Pargars is a nice man and his lectures are interesting, but the exams are SO difficult I can't move past it. Nothing remotely about management is tested on, but rather random stories and details that won't matter at all in life outside of his tests.
There are probably seven grades total in this class, so be prepared for that. His tests are mostly based on in-class discussions, so pay attention to his life stories and the examples he gives because they will be on the test! The tests are pretty much impossible to study for b/c of that. He is passionate abt management and has great advice.
His tests are easy if you go to class. If you go to class and read the textbook chapters once before the test(only 3 chapters on a test) you'll do fine. However, he speaks about his politics a bit much and is an absolute stickler about his idea of professionalism. Using the bathroom, filling up water, and using any sort of electronic is forbidden
I did well in this course. However, this course was an absolute waste of time. Only reason I showed up was because his random stories were on the exam, and attendance was mandatory. Says class is apolitical, but as socialist as they come. He also receives great pleasure in telling students to put their masks over the nose
Pargas is a horrible "professor." He takes every opportunity to make students feel stupid. His tests are a large portion of your grade, but the questions are long, confusing, and test very little about management. Make sure to know every textbook example and in class story for the tests! Each question is worth 7 points, so try to do well early on!
Pargas is really something else. Hes a god in his mind and the exam questions arent related to management at all. Write down everything that comes out of his mouth. Other than that I loved him as a person and hes very caring.
I had Pargas for COB300 and for IB480 and it was like night and day. He is definitely way too smart to be teaching 300, and sees that a lot of students don't care. In IB480, he knows that all of his students care about his class and what he has to say, so he teaches it very differently. It seems like all he wants is for his students to succeed.
This guy think he is the next coming of jesus christ. Everything on the exam is from in-class lectures. Attendance is definitely mandatory. He gives an example that will be on the exam almost every class. Watch the videos he tells you to watch and read the textbook
His exams are super hard. He makes the class unnecessarily hard and difficult. You won't do great even if you study very hard. His lectures are based on his past experiences, and you have to remember every single detail to do good on the exams. I guess he tries to help students, but I don't see it! Don't miss class & listen to everything he says.
Professor Pargas is my favorite professor in the College of Business so far, I don't understand the bad ratings of him on here! His class is so interesting and I feel as if I learned many helpful things that will help me in my future career. His tests can be difficult, but he truly wants to best for his students.
Pargas is a great teacher. His lectures are very interesting and engaging. The test questions aren't always very relevant to the course material. However, they are relevant to him and his class. I did poorly on the first two exams because I didn't to read the chapters; then I read it for the last test and scored well. Overall, love the guy.
Prof. Pargas is someone to be admired. The stuff we're reading about in textbooks--he's done it. Beware, he is OCD about nametags being out in every class, but the real life experiences he shares (including his mistakes) make up for it. Notes: He's more political than your average COB prof. Also, exams are largely based off of his stories.
Pargas is a fantastic teacher and well-spoken. I greatly enjoyed his lectures and passion for his students. He does base his tests off majority of what he says in class and attendance is mandatory in order to do well. But he really makes his class interesting and is more than willing to help you with academic, professional, and personal problems.
awesome guy. loved his connections to real life experiences. However, tests are HARD.Have nothing to do with majority of lectures, not straight forward. tests based off scenarios he makes up. two papers that are very easy. No real HW. In-class assignments dont miss. Overall, though he is one of the best
I love Professor Pargas- he is so experienced and what he says in class is all based on his previous jobs. However, his tests are hard and not based on the textbook. You need to remember what he says in lecture and how to apply that to his test questions. Gives extra credit, only two papers, and basically no homework except to read the books.
Pargas is hands down the best professor I have taken at JMU. He is extremely motivational, inspirational and knowledgeable. He teaches you how to manage yourself and others extremely well, and understands the industry more than most. Lectures are extremely important, but I honestly did not want to miss them, I enjoyed going to class every day.
Pargas is by far the best COB 300 teacher, his lectures are interesting and does a great job at engaging students. If you go to class and pay attention you are almost guaranteed to get a B. Quiz and test questions are more about in class examples than actual definitions sometimes. Great Professor to talk to about any groups issues as well.
pargas thinks hes god, this can be annoying to some, however he is the best of the 300 professors I had keeps the class engaged and interesting and his test are largely based off his in class stories.
Pargas is very interesting, best of the cob300 professors and very captivating. Exams relatively easy. He gets low marks because he is incredibly self absorbed, can be abrasive, passive aggressive, and condescending to his students. His whole "thing" is treating employees right and with respect but can't afford the same courtesies to his students.
Very self absorbed, tests filled with his own examples from class and from random videos that were placed on canvas without any reminders. Make sure to keep up with the syllabus to be prepared for the quizzes, because the quizzes are worth about as much as one exam. Show up to class everyday because there is a lot of graded in-class assignments.
i loved professor pargas! he is very clear with his expectations. a lot of my peers didnt like him because they thought he was harsh but he was very clear about what he expected of us and held us to a high standard. lectures are super engaging and tests/quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class and look over the slides.
Professor Pargas was wonderful. He is very friendly and compassionate towards students, and his lectures are enjoyable.
keeps the class engaged and interesting. his test are largely based off his in class stories. but, he is awesome! w/ the business plan he was the only professor actually willing to help. he is approachable and understanding. go to classes, between 5-15 points off for not attending the group discussions and no excuse for that is valid.
Best COB300 professor out of the 4 I had. Very fun and engaging professor and wants his students to succeed. He genuinely cares and is very easy to talk to during office hours. His exams are easy if you go to class, pay attention, and go over the slides.
Pretty nice dude and good teacher. Is pretty arrogant, but definitely cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Tests are not to bad but make sure not to miss class because many questions on his tests relate to stories/examples he provides during lectures. He also provides the best and most feedback for your business plan which is a plus.
Worst professor I've ever had. This guy hates America more than anyone you'll meet. Weird interactions with women, and rude to his students. Tests are filled with questions about his opinions on topics barely talked about. You will learn nothing in this class other than how self-absorbed he is in himself and his experiences. Good luck.
Pargas likes to make sure you know he does not like the US and Men. He makes weird comments all the time about women and makes it clear they are superior. His tests have nothing to do with the textbook/slides, it's all about the stories he tells in class. If you miss one class you are screwed for tests, also dont leave the room he deducts points.
Professor Pargas is a nice guy, who comes across as caring for his students but will not bat an eye at absolutely demolishing your grade via his OVER THE TOP exams that are incredibly subjective and super specific to his opinions. His lectures are interesting and engaging but he ruins all credibility by his unethical exams. Would not take again.
His lectures are very interesting and are easy to follow. However, his tests are unbelievably hard and opinion based. they are impossible to tell what he wants you to answer. He hates the U.S and caters to girls unfairly compared to guys. Make sure you dont take notes on his slides, but instead on his stories that are unlikely true. Overall 3/5.
It is not hard to get a B or above in this class. Yes his tests are based on his stories, but if you pay attention there are usually key words in the questions that give the answer right away. I found his lectures interesting but there is a no electronic policy so get ready to write notes.
He does not prepare you for the content or the rigor of his exams. The questions are long; you have to read them four times, and hopefully, you remember that one sentence he uttered on Monday 3 weeks ago. You won't fail, but don't expect to do well. The lectures are great, the stories are interesting. He acts like your best friend until he's not...
Professor Pargas cares and is a great professor for teaching and helping with the business plan but his exams had questions that were extremely opinionated and felt like two or three answers could've been correct which made them extremely confusing. He did provide me with an alternative for the final because I got sick.
Such hard exams for a class that's supposed to be easier in cob300 considering the difficulty of the others. Added more stress to study for his incredibly specific and hard exams that taught nothing but his own subjective opinions that had nothing with management. Dude is so full himself and acts like he cares about your grade. Don't be fooled.
Fernando Pargas, a name of fear. Where class begins, all joy will disappear. No bathroom breaks, don't you try— Your grade will plummet; kiss five points goodbye. Exams are puzzles, a strange charade, Where answers hinge on the views he's made. Women shiver beneath his gaze, His comments leave them in a daze.
Thought MGT would be my highest of the 4 hearing that it was an easier class. He makes his tests unnecessarily difficult and makes questions on extremely specific comments he made in class. Tests on his own personal stories (to fuel his ego) so if you don't show up you prob won't have any idea what he's talking about. Interesting lectures though.
MGT is supposed to be easy in the 300 semester... Test are short stories you have to read then answer based off his opinion. It's also a test bank so you can end up with a hard test while your friend coast by with an easy one. Went to ask opinion on bus plan, told us all good then made note saying it was wrong when we got the plan back.
Professor Pargas keeps the class engaging and interesting. His tests are based on his in-class stories, so paying attention is key. unstuck study was a great study tool to supplement the lectures.
Lectures are interesting but dont let pargas fool you when he speaks of how important ethics and respect are. He routinely violates everything he says and is a complete narcissist who only teaches the class to fuel his ego. If he was really that good of a manager during his career, why is he at jmu teaching this class?
You cannot miss Pargas' class under any circumstances; points will be deducted if you do. He mostly tests on the stories in class and the slides he provides. Take notes on what he says. His stories are fascinating, and he is a brilliant guy. He runs his class like an office; you will learn a lot from him and if you act like an adult, you will pass.
He's very caring! class isn't too hard and you'll do fine as long as you attend and go over the powerpoints, readings, and videos multiple times
