Awesome. This guy is cool as hell.
Raineri is awesome!! Very difficult material, but he is very helpful during office hours. One of the few chemistry professors in the department that knows how to and wants to teach.
He is soooo nice and funny! The material is very hard, but if you ever have a question, he is always happy to help!
He is very nice person however he can't teach. It's hard to understand what he saying. He came from S.America. Especially morning class, He bugs ppl so much. For whoever has having hard time to learning English, you guys shouldn't take this class. take another professor's class. His Voice is very faint and pronounciation is horrible
He is BORING...dont take his class in the morning cuz ure going to be sleeping the whole time...i dont recommend him.
my favorite teacher ever in stonybrook make sure you take this class, im going to take che 302 with him even though its not mandatory. he's a very helpful guy and lenient with grading.
He seems like a nice person and he really knows his stuff. You'll be lost if you don't read the textbook. So always read beforehand.
Excellent professor. If interested, must sit in front row due to large lecture hall. Will give you answers to exams in office hours. Allows you to take home your tests to redo them! Very lenient grader, I took him for 3 semesters (301, 301, 528) and loved it. Excellent TA's. 301 and 302 are ridiculous, give too much HW. I spent 10hrs/week on 301.
I never know what he's talking about...::sigh::
Totally lost in this class...I don't know why people are saying he's such a great professor...he can't teach and the homeworks are ridiculously long and hard...textbook is irrelevant to what he teaches in class. I hate this class!

He is a Phyiscal Chemistry teacher. and he even said it himself, he is only gonna make the test harder for CHE132 b/c of his pride in teaching p.chem. seriously though, this guy makes my life feel miserable because my last two midterm test combined is 90 avg. but im still doing bad cause I fcked the first midterm which was imposible to do.
I don't understand why so many people like him. Sure he has a sense of humor, but the wrost teaching methods ever. He just goes over deravations while the class sits passively and no one understands. Should make a more active class so that people think. Asks excellent questions though.

I thought he was great. The class is difficult becasue there is so much to cover, and it is assumed that the student is comfortable with calculus--so it goes FAST. He's got a great sense of humor, and is extremely helpful after class and in office hours. There's lots of HW, but if you do it, and go to class, he is extremely generous in grading.
He is a brilliant teacher, for such a difficult course to understand, he does a very good job teaching it. His homeworks and quizzes prove to be quite on the tricky side they will easily take hours to do, but he tries to make it straight foward when it comes to exam time. The course is completely open book but it probably wont help you hah!
He is honestly the worst professor I have every had! I know he is great at teaching P-chem, but he said it himself, that he hated teaching gen chem. He was always saying that he never had time to post the lecture slides, or make review questions for the test. I love chem, and he made 132 a terrible experiance for me.
Wow, this class was ridiculous. His thick accent and slow teaching style made the lectures impossible to follow, therefore I never attended lecture. Thankfully, a giant curve at the end of the class was able to save my grade (B+). He was also kind to give an optional test to replace one of the midterms.

This class is hard, like i had a mental breakdown hard. Rainneri is a nice guy but as far as his teaching skills go...lets just say that out of a class of 300 only 40 people show up, 10 of which are actually awake through the whole class.
Nice, but the tests were ridiculous!
This is the most amazing professor ever i had him for P-Chem and I loved him. He is so smart. He doesnt even need to use any lecture notes to teach a class come on thts just amazing!!! If you fail his class you must be a big idiot n u should seriously reconsider your major!!!
One of the best and kind professors at Stony Brook. For those who wrote bad comments; did you take the time to attend his office hours and go to the chem learning center to understand the material. Yea its not an easy course but u if u put the effort into learning the material u will do well
Great professor!!!
To be honest, I took 132 twice. But I get an A at my second try with ease.I think once you understand his accent, his class can make sense to you. He always say "cupper" insdead of "copper". I do not know he wants to be more scientific(Cu2+) or he just cannot say "copper".
Good teacher overall.
He is funny guy. The exams were slightly harder than the practice exams but the averages were always low, but he gave a lot of bonuses and a 65 final grade is B, which is not that bad.
If you have to take Chem 132, make sure you take it with Raineri. No, attendance isn't really necessary (his lectures are posted online, and I guess you could read the book on your own), but trust me, GO TO CLASS. He's awesome.
Fall 2009 Prof. Raineri showed me he's one of the best instructors in the Chemistry Department. Takes the time to offer DETAILED SOLUTIONS for all of the semester's exams - past and previous. It is obvious that this prof. cares about his class - otherwise he would not offer a bonus exam to replace your lowest grade. Bonus pts for attendance.
The first 3 exams were really challenging but He gave a lot of bonus, a make-up Midterm with 20 points bonus(Easy), and Final(Fair) with 15 points bonus, so how couldn't you get an A on this class.
HE REALLY TRIES TO MAKE THE STUDENTS LEARN.EXPLAINS THE CLICKER QUESTIONS IN LECTURE, DETAILED EXAM SOLUTIONS-AMAZING.HAS FUNNY ACCENT BUT U CAN UNDERSTAND HIM, GAVE A MAKEUP EXAM W/BONUS PTS. OVERALL EASY CLASS BUT U ACTUALLY LEARN THE STUFF, I DIDNT EVEN READ THE TXT BOOK, GO 2 JASONS TUTORING N U CAN GET A "B" AT LEAST. READ BOOK FOR AN A.
No book needed, he teaches by marker and board. You have to try very hard to even understand what he is saying. The topic is very hard, if you have a bad TA you'll have alot of work. Worst thing is that he expect you to know everything! He'd say, "even kindergarteners know this" and the topic would be differential equations.....
Rarely would introduce the problem. Never went over the basic definitions. All we did was copy the same equations from the blackboard. Lots of make-work. I doubt he knows about what he is talking. I don't understand why the Chemistry department had him teach three classes. He should not be teaching. Textbook was terrible.
He has a very thick accent and sometimes he is hard to understand. However, he is a very good teacher and an even better chemist. He made the class very easy and even almost pleasant.
He was awesome! It's a lot of work but he made the class interesting. Textbook isn't too helpful just attend ALL of his classes or you'll be missing out for exams.
This is my second time taking the course, and I can say he is much better than my last professor. He really tries to make sure people understand and do well by posting step-by-step answers to all questions and even giving an extra credit exam. The only downside is his accent, but it's not too difficult to get used to. Plus he's such a sweetheart!
Prof Raineri is the most intelligent and the best chem prof ever! I hated Chem 131, struggled to get a C simply because I couldn't understand the lecture and the professors were not at all approachable. Raineri is very sweet, and helpful. It is very clear that he wants students to not only get good grades but actually learn chemistry.
He's the best professor to take for Chemistry. He gave our class up to 7 additional bonus points. There are bonus points on all the exams. He's very helpful and actually wants his students to do well.
Great!! No chem professor at SB will help you like he will. He gave a seperate optional review before every test!
Attendance not taken but you should go to class because he remembers faces and finds out who you are. He doesnt use the textbook. I personally dont like his notes (handwritten). He doesnt tell you any of your grades. 3 midterms & 2 assignments due weekly. This class is extremely hard. I got straight A's in all my classes but a C in this. AVOID!!!!!
He's definitely one of the best professors in the Chemistry Department (notice that he has two Excellent in Teaching Awards in his office?). Theoretical chemistry is a branch of chemistry which is closely related to Mathematics and deals with calculations, so perhaps it turns out not to be suitable for all chemistry-majored students.
Hardest class in the chemistry department.
Best prof. in the school. I had him for two semesters of p-chem and I worked for him as a grad student. You couldn't ask for a more helpful and informed instructor, and he's a stellar advisor.
Prof. Raineri is one of the best professors at the Unitversity, let alone in the chemistry department. He REALLY wants his students to do well, and does everything in his power to see that happen (EXTRA exam, bonus quizzes in recitation, etc.). READ the textbook, do his practice exams and you'll be fine with this guy!
Greatest Professor in Stony Brook. He's approachable, understanding, welcoming and extremely knowledgable in his field. I feel grateful to have had him as a professor. Highly recommended, and as for his accent who doesn't have one. In all honestly it's not as difficult to understand as some make it out to be.
Absolutely love him! He is from Argentina for all those who try to guess where his accent is from. He really is a sweetheart and wants everyone to succeed, hence him always asking "Is this clear". Definitely take with him and not Hanson, best decision you will ever ever make. So many bonus points, and he posts explanations to answers fro past tests
THE GREATEST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIMES. Lovely, intelligent and passionate about teaching. Go to his office hours. Attend class. I respect him. He is insparational and changed my learning approach.
He is a great professor. The class is not easy but if you study what he tell you to you will do well!
He is super kind and dedicated to his work. Use his office hours to clear up anything your confused about. He really tries to push everyone to their potential.
His accent may be the ONLY thing that confuses you about him. He is the best chemistry teacher I have ever had so far. He really wants everyone to do well, he always asks if you understand what he says, so very nice and...he's awesome.
Great professor!!!!!His accent is the one and only thing that confuses me. You can get A just follow his instruction and finish homework and clicker questions.
I am now a graduate student in Physical Chemistry as a computational chemist. I was enthralled with this topic, yet I have to say he is the worst by far. His idea of teaching is throwing some random equation on the board writing the same equation in a different form and asking us if we agree with his math. No context to physical meaning.
This man is awesome. He puts in SO much effort, making recordings from home for exam review, creating detailed lecture notes, etc. His accent is hilarious at first but you get used to it, and don't really notice it after a while. ALEKS homework is HELL but I swear you'll learn so much from it. Uses clicker q's in class for extra credit
LOVE HIM. He is by far one of the most dedicated, caring professors I've taken a class with at SBU. truly exceptional. He posts 2+ hour review recordings before each exam and detailed solutions. If you don't do well in this class, it's your own fault and no failing on his part. he goes above and beyond. take 132 with him! you will not regret it.
One of the best professors I have had thus far at Stony Brook. I am not good at chemistry, but I did well in this course because Raineri is a great teacher and actually cares about the success of his students. He posts review recordings, holds review lectures, and posts detailed solutions to problems among other things. Take this course with him.
Its nice to have a professor who works harder than his students. Professor Raineri is one of the greatest professors I could have asked for. He posts pages of detailed solutions on blackboard to help with studying and video review sessions too. He is very accommodating to his students. If you sen him an email he will get back to you right away!
Raineri is by far one of the best chemistry professors stony brook has to offer. Before him I was practically lost in chemistry, now I actually know something. He puts so much effort into his work, the detailed solutions really help. Also the end of chapter questions he suggests to use are really helpful.
Raineri is phenomenal teacher. Goes through all the material in depth, just pay attention in lecture and you'll do great on the tests. ALEKS is annoying but it is very helpful in the long run. Far better teacher than Hanson. Only negative is that he has an accent but it is not hard to understand at all.
Raineri did an excellent job teaching this course. fair warning, no matter what people says FINISH THE ALEKS PIE BEFORE THE DUE DATE. ALL TOPICS. my aleks summary score dropped a lot, even though he said we don't have to finish the pie. Hanson has a huge say in the questions on the tests. use raineri's office hours, he takes time to really explain!
He is a great chemistry professor. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. He gives multiple examples and is very clear with explaining things, even though he has somewhat of a heavy accent. Do the practice exams he gives out and ask questions in order to do well.
His accent is tough to understand. he spends a lot of time during class telling us all to be quiet instead of actually lecturing us. He seems very uninterested in what he is teaching, and as if he wanted to be there less than any of us did. (which seems pretty impossible)
It's very to find a professor who works harder than the students. This guy will provide you with all the assitance you need to ace the material. Sadly, Hanson has a big play in this course and he'll do everything possible to ensure your failure.
Took pchem online. Super easy. The lecture videos are from his previous summer sessions, but he holds a weekly online synchronous recitation. You can join or watch them later. He posts hw probs, but you don't have to do them. There are 2 online quizzes a week and 3 exams in total (not cumulative). It's all open book. Didn't use the textbook at all.
he is very good professor
Quantum mechanics is never an easy class. All his notes are by handwriting, a little hard to recognize. He gave out a lot of "quiz problems" but not need to hand in. HW every week. 3 exams, open book open notes and can do it again take home, except final. Never figure out what's about this class but I think it's not his problem.
He gives in depth practice problems and writes out all of the steps to doing them. Always reviews every clicker question and give directions very clearly. He's an awesome teacher, not the best lecturer but his extra material more than makes up for his low points during the lecture. Study the practice problem steps and you'll be set for the test.
Good professor
He really wants us all to succeed. He explains everything thoroughly and posts detailed solutions for all clicker questions and practice exams. I wish he taught the entire semester.
This class would be a lot harder and more complicated if the material were not presented so clearly. The class was interesting and enjoyable, and I feel like I really learned a lot!
He seems silly, and you might not take his seriously at first, but Raineri is the one of the kindest and most helpful professors I've ever had. He cares about what you think! Before class begins he would take a minute or two to walk around the lecture hall and ask students of their progress as well as feedback.
He truly cares about his students. He is one of the most dedicated professors I've had thus far. He has an accent but nonetheless, I understood.
Really nice and a great professor.
He's definite one of the best chem professors at Stony Brook. I honestly do wish he taught the whole semester. He is always there for any questions or difficulties you might be having & he responds to emails ! Genuinely cares about his students, he's the sweetest thing ever !
Raineri is hilarious. He has a dry sense of humour which helps ease the torture that pchem is. This is the hardest course I've ever taken in my life at sbu but you can do well if you keep up with the homework, exams. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!!! I promise, it will make a difference. Even if you have to ask basic questions from day 1, ask.
The class has a lot of homework so be prepared to keep track of the reading assignments and the ALEKS problems. He is a good professor and is really funny. He's pretty clear but sometimes can be confusing if you don't do the reading in time. Show up to class, he uses clicker credit.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. I'm sure he knew what he was talking about, but had no idea how to teach. Slides were useless, and he was very rude. If you take this class, prepare to teach yourself all the material because he's useless.
Actually one of the few professors I can follow during a chem lecture. He really takes time to explain the topic and go over clicker questions. Just be sure to read the textbook before coming, it really helps fill in the gaps. He assumes that you've read before coming so will go over how to solve problems, not too concept heavy than application.
One of the worst professor's I've ever had. Strongly advise not to take him. Nice guy but very strong accent. Can't understand what he says in lecture and even puts me to sleep when rewatching lectures online. Went from a class of over 300 students showing up for each lecture down to an average of literally 30 students. Prepare for an uphill battle
If you can get past his thick accent, he is an amazing professor. For my class, he neatly HAND WROTE on his ipad EVERY single question and answer with explanations for the practice exams and for the midterms and finals afterwards. He gives so many resources for you to turn to and really cares about how his students do.
Very thick accent which takes about two weeks to get used to. Posts all answers to all questions that he gives even the answers with detailed explanation to practice exams. That's the only helpful part. Otherwise, average professor.
RAINERI IS THE MAN. He has an accent but I never misunderstood him, its really never an issue. He's HILARIOUS! Great lecturer, lots of practice problems that are just like the test. He cares SO MUCH & wants you to do well! He posts detailed solutions to all the problems in class and for the practice tests. He's great! Go to office hours!
Raineri was the best of all of the CHE132 teachers (the others were Boone and Khalifa). He really cares for the students and constantly asks "Is this clear?" in the lectures. He's awesome because after posting practice exams, he literally gives the work for each question and the same for the exams. Puts the most work in by far of all the professors
Professor Raineri is a really responsible professor, he gives clear solution to every single clicker questions and exam practice questions. If you skipped a class, make sure you go back and watch the echo. Also, remember to do the practice questions he posted, they are really helpful if you feel lost in class.
Raineri is by far the best gen chem professor here. He has a slight accent, but he cares so much about his students and does so much work. Even when Boon or Khalifa were teaching, he would put up explanations for every lecture. Honestly, I kind of feel bad for him because of how much work he puts in.
I dont think hes a bad person or anything but his lectures were impossible for me to follow. His accent is so hard to understand and same with his handwriting. I mean its not the worst handwriting in the world but its almost impossible to understand when youre trying to go back and reread To be honest though the whole class was terrible.
I can not believe he is teaching, he cannot teach to save his life. His accent is too thick to fully comprehend the material. Anytime he says not on the test, it is gonna show up on the test. He's honestly so salty most of the time, and he keeps the exact seconds of the time. Be prepared to cry.
Hes a great man honestly. Really funny and loves chemistry. Hes super caring and friendly
yes he has a thick accent, but anyone and their mothers should be able to understand him. He gives soooo many practice problems theres no excuse not to do well on the exam. Powerpoints are very clear and helpful
Raineri is the best gen chem professor here at Stony Brook. His accent is absolutely not a problem. His notes have both pre- and post-lecture versions, and with clear solutions for clicker questions. He makes tutorial videos throughout the semester even when other professors are teaching. He also writes detailed solutions for practice exams.
I was originally skeptical because my chemistry experience overall was terrible, but Ranieri saved my grade and made the end of gen chem a bit better. Will actually TEACH you the material, provides detailed solutions for both the midterm and parts of the final. Extremely funny and he was the best TEACHER out of the 3 for CHE 132. Highly recommend!
the worst.
Gen chem is hard, but he is a great lecturer. Available before exams and after class. Shows how to do problems in real time in iPad notes rather than just lecture on content and do clicker questions. Truly is a great professor
Very kind and caring professor! Provide lots of supplemental notes and problems and solutions
This class was absolutely, totally, completely, definitely, catastrophically, entirely, GREAT because of Dr. Fernando Raineri. He gives notes that are actually very detailed and extremely useful. Tests are extremely fair and so is partial credit/grading. He even holds extra reviews and office hours. Thank you for being the way that you are Raineri!
Honestlyy he turned out to be much better than I expected. He teaches very well and his topics were simple (for the most part) to understand. However, he does go through each slide pretty fast and sometimes I struggle to keep up. Literally, if you take your attention off the slides for one second, you won't know what's happening.. so PAY ATTENTION!
y'all high af. this mf can't teach
Raineri is the most unpleasant human Ive ever met. Instead of helping students during workshop you get scolded on not knowing something. He wont let you take a sip of water even under your mask and is miserable all of the time.
Amazing professor! Attend his office hours and he explains questions in a very clearly, thoroughly way. Textbook is not mandatory for this class, but reading it is really helpful.
Amazing professor, He is very cute and welled explained every question I had.
Absolute gem. If White didnt teach half of CHE152, this wouldve been my favorite course. His lectures are clear, his test questions are very fair, and hes very kind/funny too. He should just teach the whole course. He is absolutely totally positively surely definitely amazing.
Raineri cannot teach. Nothing will prepare you for the test. The practice materials given aren't helpful. The slides are convoluted and he does not answer questions. The entire class got a test question wrong and instead of explaining the question he made fun of us for it. Not even joking. Avoid this professor if you can. He is truly evil.
Professor Raineri was alright. He has a heavy accent and often hard to understand him. His lecture slides however was very detailed so despite not being able to understand at some points. the slide gave enough context to follow along with the lecture. I do find it annoying that his pre-lecture slides doesn't provide the clicker questions.
The class had a pretty low workload, and I'd say that he is an effective lecturer despite his thick accent. When he's grading tests, he can be extremely harsh, so you should hope a TA is grading you rather than him. He can have a temper, and generally wants nothing to do with students.
It is usually quite hard to understand him due to his accent, so I mainly had to rely on lecture notes and the TAs for help during recitation. He seems to be indifferent and sometimes a bit rude to students when they ask questions and grades the tests rather harshly.
Professor Raineri was a great lecturer. He was communicative and his slides were both informative and simple to follow. Although Raineri speaks somewhat softly as times, has a thick accent, and incoherent handwriting at times, he truly does care and is there to help you. Workshops were a bore sometimes but had great practice questions as well.
