great
All of the homework is online, but the tests are done in class.
His accent took a little getting used to... which is really the only "problem" about that class. He is hilarious and helps whenever you ask. He likes to have fun in the class, but he still covers all the material at a good pace. He gives easy tests and gives extra credit math problems every once in a while.
great great teacher. If you want to learn and pass take prof. kiprono. He is a million times better than most math teachers i have taken. He offers help
An all around horrible teacher, doesn't break things down or explain things to you.Makes you figure it all out on your own and if you have a question about how a problem is done all he does is write the answer on the board but never tells you how he got to the answer or how the problem is done.
Festus is very knowledgable and does explain material well and to the best of his abilities. I personally did not have difficulty with him, but if you struggle in math, he is one of those teachers who expects you to understand it the first time, but overall apretty cool guy. little/no extra credit given. all homework done online.
He seems like a nice enough guy if you understand the material without him having to do much work. He would get frustrated if someone asked a question. Was very strict about sticking to the syllabus as far as assignments and making sure we covered everything even if some students didn't grasp what was being taught. I would never take him again.
funny, great teacher, accent takes a few minutes to get accustomed to, but sooo much better than most professors who i have dealt with.
Nice guy, but learn nothing in his class. Doesn't break things down for people to understand. My entire class had a very difficult time in his course.
he's too smart that he doesn't know how to teach the material to students. Don't miss an assignment or you're screwed
He is from Kenya and has a thick accent which takes some getting used to. He uses the book and does examples on the board. Homework and quizzes are on course compass(internet). He is very unclear when explaining topics, but he tries to help-doesnt usually work. Very dry and he uses words like "juicy" and "spicy" to describe math. bad class!
Pretty easy class, and he explains things again if someone needs him to.
Follows book, does examples on board. Always asks if anyone has questions. Willing to review if you don't get it. Homework & quizzes online MyMathLab. If you have trouble make an office appointment & he will help you. I struggled, worked hard, did all work & extra credit assignments, never missed class. Very fair grader. Would take other classes.
He's really a nice guy once you get to know him and he helped me out a lot by the end of the semester, however it was VERY difficult for me to understand what he said. He goes through things fast and sometimes got annoyed when people asked questions. nice guy though.
Professor kiprono is a great professor. Easy going and very knowledgeable in his area.Guides you through homework. Always on time and never misses class
A nice professor. I wouldnt say he is easy going but works hard to make you understand the material. He is a professor who is not out to please students but work hard to make you understand the material. Goes out of your way to assist students outside his office hours
He is an excellent teacher. Always helpful. Very intelligent..I would say do your homework and quizzes and you will be fine. He encourages alot of critical thinking. You have to sweat but all in all he is great
A great teacher. Really out to help students and very funny
Great professor. The questions are very hard but it encourages alot of critical thinking. I would say if you are thinking of doing some serious stuff in math then you definitely want to take him
Awesome professor and one of the greatest at the mount. if you want to learn Math then you want to be in his class.
I really enjoyed having class with him. As long as you attend class and keep up with your online homework and quizzes, you should get an A. I am taking 126 with him next semester. Great professor!
Excellent professor. Understands the subject and cares for his students. Class atmosphere is easy-going but packed with information. To succeed you have to do the homework/mathlab. He loves challenging his students with an occasional difficult problem but slows down if the class doesn't catch up. Skip this class if math is alien code to you.
An all around horrible teacher, doesn't break down problem.Makes you frustrated, if you have a question about how a problem is done all he does is write the answer on the board but never tells you how he got to the answer or how the problem is done.Easily picks issues with students, and tries to prove what he know rather than teaching.
An all around horrible teacher, doesn't break things down or explain things to you.Makes you figure it all out on your own and if you have a question about how a problem is done all he does is write the answer on the board but never tells you how he got to the answer or how the problem is done.Won't take his course
Excellent professor. Well prepared for class. Be ready for this class if you are planning to take calculus II.I will highly recommend you take him again
very helpful.
Took him for applied statistics in fitchburg state university and he was really good. Class was hard for me but he always stays after class if you have a question
Kiprono is the worst professor I have ever taken. He has impossible office hours and wouldn’t stay after class. During his lectures he was easily distracted. If you can teach yourself the material, this is the class for you. He relies heavily on the book and will only go over easy examples in class. I highly discourage taking his class.
He is excellent if you want to learn something. Will take him again.Works hard to explain. Don't take the class if you are not ready to study
Differential equation great
Took him online for Calculus II. Anyone planning to take a class with him get ready for challenging word problems. I would say i learnt a lot but had to study alot. If you are thinking of swinging by this is not the class for you. Very helpful professor. Gives timely feedback.
Great professor
I wasnt sure how i would do on an online class but prof Kiprono went out of his way to help me. He challenges you a lot.
I really loved this professor for my online differential equations class. The class was hard but I found he tries his best to work with you. For his exams read and practice.
Good teacher. Funny in class
I love this professor. He makes things clear and always ready to help.
Good professor I really did learn a lot however if you miss class you will be lost unless you can get the hang of math easily. Ask questions if you have them and he will be happy to answer. The wording on some test can be tricky sometimes.
May be a good teacher in person but not online. Offers strict quiz/test dates and only allows tests to be done on weekends? Pretty dumb set up considering a student's life. Most people don't have time to sit there for 7 hours to practice math and that's the only type of advice he offers if you need help. Definitely won't take it again.
I love this professor for his timely feedback. Creates time outside class to help. If you are struggling in Math this is your dude.
If you're good at math you'll be fine, but asking questions with this teacher gets you nowhere but more confused. My entire class has been dependent on each other because he's more keen to prove us wrong than actually help. He's also absolutely terrible about reading/writing down wrong numbers so the problem can't be solved right! Be careful!
I am excellent in math, it has always been my strong point in school. I could not learn from this professor unfortunately. He is a nice person in general, but he doesnt really explain how a math problem is done. Your best bet is to read the text book and teach yourself. But I need to see something done step by step to learn, which he does not do.
He is a very smart guy from Kenya. If you want to pass the class, show up. I took him for Calculus I and he really broke things down. Am taking him for Calculus II
This guy saved my life in statistics. I graduated because of him. I will forever be greatfull. Take him 1000 times if you can
Explains very clear. Calculus II was hard but i made a point to see him in my office and he worked throughout the semester with me
I struggled in Math and he really went out of his way so that I can graduate. if you suck in math like some of us then you need him
He just didnt care. I took his online class and even if I put in the correct answer but put it in the system incorrectly and emailed him to tell him he would basically say too bad hes not changing it. I gave up half way through. Ironically I retook the class at another school and received a B+. I guess I needed a professor who actually cared.
I enjoyed his online math class. Work is straight forward if you put in the time.
Good luck !
A very hard working professor. He makes a lot of jokes but takes time to teach or meet you with students outside office hours. I had him for Calculus 2 and he really tried to explain things clearly. Highly recommend those who suck in math
His class was really hard, I found his style of teaching to be ineffective. As a person, he made the class laugh and tried his best, but I found it too difficult to keep up with him, thus dropping the class.
He knows math but bad at teaching. All homework online. created his own tests worth half your grade that didnt resemble any work you had done so far. Very few Qs on those tests so dont get anything wrong. He took lots of personal time and spent lots of classes playing on his phone. gave the impression that he was too busy for our class. avoid him
Absolute failure in understanding of student's situation in the pandemic. Moved up deadlines, would not accept late, changed exam submission policy without notice, tested on things we didn't learn, publicly called out students, refusal to accommodate when I went to the hospital. Total jerk in conversation, refusal to budge. would never take again.
I found him quite approachable. His exams were challenging but took a lot of time with students to explain
AVOID. Worst Professor I have ever taken in my years at the Mount. He seems to have a few screws loose because he does NOT TEACH. Relying on Youtube videos for course instruction is despicable, and is unhelpful when you have questions. He had to resubmit a test due to error, and was unclear on instruction. An embarrassment to the math curriculum.
Where do I even start. Over the semester he has "speculated" his students to be cheating and has changed test policies countless times. It is hard enough to understand him with his lack of proper English grammar. To top it all off this joke of a college professor relies on Professor Leonard's YOUTUBE channel to mask his failure to teach. Stay away!
Never again will I spend a another minute in this man's classroom. A true mockery of what it means to be an educator. As COVID-19 has created obstacles this semester for me, this embarrassment of the Mount has failed to adjust to student needs. Assignments are unclear, and there is no help. May as well contact Youtube cause they actually teach me.
This professor was NONEXISTENT throughout the entire course. He provided NO help with concepts, no videos or lectures, or any feedback on any work submitted online. He did zero teaching and only submitted youtube links on the weekly chapter topics. Each student had to teach themselves and when emailed for help, would commonly not reply. AVOID HIM!
The best professor that I have had in statistics. All work is done through mystatlab. For every exam he has a review for the exam. IF you just do that you will pass
Statistics was a nightmare for me but he made it fun and much easier. I went to his office several times and he really helped. He never misses classes. Be warned. Takes attendance every day
Plain and simply stated this guy is JUNK. He made absolutely zero effort to teach his own material and instead posted youtube videos from Prof Leonard. Also made students redo test questions because he's not smart enough to write them correctly the first time. Tests are worth 50% of your grade if you're into that sort of thing.
Don't expect anything from this man. Gives zero feedback, might as well be googling how to do math. Worst professor I've ever had. It has also been suggested that he might be behind some of his positive ratings here and that's disgusting. Expect him to ghost your emails and shrug his shoulders when you need help. Taught via other peoples you tube
Course description should be changed to Teach yourself calculus via YouTube videos. Every class Ive taken with this guy his philosophy is to just YouTube it. Dont think there was anything he created himself to help his students for this class. Email him a question and hell tell you to just YouTube it theres tons of videos out there.
Avoid him at all costs. Wait until next semester to take somebody else if you have to. He does zero teaching and whenever I asked for help he told me to YouTube it. Zoom hours are a joke and hes unprofessional. Poor excuse for a teacher, he sits around and collects his paychecks. Why are we paying the school to watch YouTube, honestly?
man loves his youtube videos I had him two semesters in a row and this man accused me of cheating three times. I scanned him proof of work done and he still would make comments in the group chat about doing homework, test, and exams honestly. He has a major issue. Would not recommend him as a teacher. I will be avoiding him at all costs.
I took him for Calculus 3 . He has accent but a very smart professor. I personally found him very approachable in and out of class
Prof Kiprono is one of the best professors that I have had at the mount.I personally didnt have a problem in my calculus 3. As a older student he was Very patient with me.
will take him again. Goes out of his way to help
Hes genuinely a good teacher. He takes his time explaining things and makes sure everyone understands the material. Do the homework and quizzes and youll be prepped for the exams
Professor Kiprono was consistently late to every class. He rarely used notes that he prepared himself, he always seemed to be teaching from a handout that another professor has created. The practice exams are nothing at all like the actual exams. I am not sure he even created a single handout for this class.
Professor Kiprono was barely accessible within his office hours. It was virtually impossible to get a straight answer out of him if you had a sincere question on one of his assignments.
Not accessible outside of class, left you hanging a lot. During class would say the class was taking too long and that they needed to get through the chapter material, and would interrupt class multiple times per lecture to rant about this, 2-3 minutes each time.
Was absolutely unavailable to help. Whenever I would email him with questions he would tell me to YouTube, or would send YouTube videos, which were not enough help for pre-calc. He doesn't seem to understand or empathize that people learn differently and may struggle with math. Avoid him at EVERY cost. His attitude about teaching disgusts me.
I had to retake the math course at a completely different college because the course at my college was only taught by this professor. Goes to show you how bad of a professor he is when it comes to teaching. Completely Awful!
So absolutely NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED for an ONLINE class! You can't even access your past assignments once they're completed! And he claims he does it this way to be "fair to all students". How is it fair to put strict schedule deadlines on adults doing online classes most likely because they have busy personal and professional lives? The worst!
I took this class in person thinking it would help me understand the math better but I was wrong. When you ask questions he makes you feel stupid about what you're asking. Next to impossible to get into contact with him unless you're at the school. Made math feel harder.
Deadlines posted at the beginning of the course for most of the work. You can't make up work in his classes but he did give a couple of opportunities for extra credit and on one occasion let students pick one homework assignment to makeup.
Tough but fair. Student's who can hit the ground running will be fine. He seems to favor an implicit teaching method, which is fine based on the prerequisite courses. People with poor trig/algebra skills are the ones who don't do well in his class. That's not a reflection of the teacher, though. Some of the reviews are overly harsh in my opinion.
Completely disorganized. Can never keep up with the the syllabus, adjusts due dates for homework and Quizzes to be due earlier thanks to falling behind his own academic plan sometimes have them due on the day of an exam. He will often have homework and Quizzes open all semester but teach the content the day that those homework and quizzes are due.
I had Festus for both 163 & 211. I was told going in he was a hard professor but I found the complete opposite to be true. While the subject may be hard, he is willing to always help, you just have to ask for it though. He does have some flaws with timing but he always makes sure to fix any problems. Amazing and I would take again if possible.
Very unorganized!
Festus was an ok professor. He more so stood as someone to turn in assignments to compared to a professor. He gave us resources, and we pretty much taught ourselves. I love algebra so I was fine with this, but I'd imagine someone who did not would need more help. Overall, I didn't mind his class.
I taught myself with the textbook. Festus did not provide any of his own lectures or anything. Received YouTube videos that didn't cover everything needed. Does not allow missed assignments or makeup work for any reason whatsoever. Lots of homework, length exams, etc. Would get questions that were not covered.
He is excellent at teaching math in a way that makes sense!! However, I can't recommend him to those with chronic health issues. Everytime I was out I emailed him pictures of my doctor notes for proof. Halfway through the sem he yelled & asked why I'm always missing class? I had to have a seizure during lecture before he took my illnesses seriously
He is very strict on attendance. If you plan not to come to his class, you NEED a doctor's note. He is not forgiving with any of the work, and if you fail, you fail. He has a great personality, but is not a great professor. He moves through lectures way too quickly and crams in too much information into one class.
