I NEVER LIKED PHIL, BUT THIS CLASS WAS OK FOR ME. HE IS VERY HELPFUL, AND TRYING TO MAKE THIS EASIER FOR STUDENTS.
I took several classes with him few years ago. He is a good teacher. I would like to sit back in his class, and listen again... He teach basic stuffs, which is very very usable for your entire life, if you aren't a philo major like me, such as critical thinking, and intro to philosophy etc...
WHAT A GREAT TEACHER! NICE N EASY CLASS. 2 OPEN BOOK EXAMS(SHORT ESSAYS), AN EASY GROUP PROJECT, A 3PG PAPER, AND ATTENDANCE. VERY EASY AND CLEAR ABOUT ALL THE SUBJECTS, AND WHAT E WANT IN THE EXAM. HE EVEN TOLD US 60% WILL BE "C" IN HIS CLASS.
It was interesting class. Boring subject, but he tries to relate Phil with current events, which helps.
Challenging class....Boring subject, unless you like questions that have no answers to them and are totally irrevelant to everyday life....But overall he is a good instructor, just be ready to write a lot when it comes to the essay form tests...
This guy is really cool. He really tries to make the subject matter understandable. Can be boring sometimes, but what teacher isnt?
Terrible instructor, always trying to impress the class with his self-importance. His tests are sincerely unfair. I could not wait to be out of there. Boring? To the maximum, and he is a tyrant about attendence, taking it last. Leave early, and he counts you absent. Fair? Not at all. Not worth suffering through? No. Avoid this guy.
He is from Philippins and has a strong Philippines accent.OPEN BOOK EXAMS(SHORT ESSAYS QUESTION) He always tell student what is going to be covered before the exam day. So,bring a recorder to record what he say about the exam can helps you because he only read once. If u can't copy down quickly,i recommand u buy a recorder.Take notes important.
He's was a good teacher. Kinda hard to understand, and confusing at times but the class was pretty easy
great teacher...very smart, helpfull, and super straight foreward
Made a difficult subject a lot easier to understand. The exams were very hard but were open book so they were do-able

Makes philosophy more fun than it usually is. Tries to get class involved in answering. Pretty good teacher.
Great professor! Very nice and understanding. Lots of writing for exams but he makes everything very clear and easy to understand. They are also open book.
he has a great attitude toward what he is teaching, but just needs to explain the material more. however if you ever need to reach him, he is very helpful and is quick to respond

At first I was discouraged with the course realizing the topics we were going to be studying, but the professor made the class interesting, and constantly reviewed any topic any student was confused with. He made the class interesting and got the students thinking about the world we live in, and our thought process that brings us to such conclusio

I was cautious entering this class b/c as a Christian I assumed the professor was just gunna bash Christianity. To my surprise, he was completely unbias, he spoke for and against all religions equally. I enjoyed the class. Remember this though..."Am I making sense here?" lol (inside joke)
One of those required ge classes. The class had a broad spectrum of majors and he did a great job of keeping it together. The readings were not difficult and were surprisingly interesting. Open book quizzes, take home test, easy term papers, I would definitely recommend him
I really enjoyed this class even without a prior interest in Philosophy! Mr. Arnecillo was really interesting and explained the sometimes confusing material clearly. I never felt like he was forcing us to believe a certain way. The tests were a bit crazy. I wrote at least six pages on the final, but he was a fair grader and I somehow still got an A
Good teacher but the class is stupid!
Mr. Arnecillo was a great teacher. He is very passionate about this subject and it shows in his teaching. This isn't a subject I love but he makes you want to love it because of his knowledge of it. He is a fair grader and will take time to listen to your concerns and opinions. He is good at not trying to sway anyone's thoughts.
easy going
This professor is very helpful. He give extra credit alot. On the exam you are allowed a page front and back. Very nice guy and i would definetly take him again for another phil class. Also you have to be dumb to not pass the class.
He is a very interesting professor. i had him for "reality and knowledge" and it was really interesting. he is by far the best philosophy teacher that i have ever taken (and i have taken quite a few philosophy classes)
Fidel has a cute personality and you gotta love the Filipino accent. He's a fair teacher and he has some interesting ideas to share. He is surprisingly calm when the some students verbally attack what he is teaching. Just remember: just because he's teaching it, that doesn't mean you have to get mad at him. He's just the messanger!
This class was hard, but the prof. was really cool. He's passionate about his work and tries to explain everything as clearly as he can. The subject its self is hard, but he gives a lot of extra credit. 3 exams, a paper, and 20 excercises. Easy to pass, but hard to get an A. I don't like PHIL, but I love this prof. and would take him again.
ah what a professor :) . his very nice, funny, and helpful.
Nice Guy. I thought I was going to barely Pass and ended up with an A-. You have to go to class though. I missed one day, and was confused for the rest of the quarter.
Tough course, fair prof. He's clear and concise in his teaching, but attendance is absolutely mandatory. You miss a lecture, you better have friends who take good notes in the class. Prof Fidel is passionate and very knowledgeable. You'll leave his class having learned something. Textbook is necessary for exercises, but you can get an old edition.
Great teacher. Gives 10-12 points extra credit and you can pass the class with a 60%. The material is VERY HARD. You miss one class and your lost the rest of the quarter.
Fair professor. His overusage of the phrases "right?","are you guys following me here?","am I making sense here?", may be distracting sometimes, but he lectures well. His midterms and final are short answer, no multiple choice, but he lets you know what will be on the test specifically. Making them much easier to study for.
LOVED this guy. I agree he does overuse his go-to phrases: "right?", "are you following me here?", "am i making sense here?"... However, you will get past that because he is very passionate. GO TO EVERY CLASS. It is imperative. You will be LOST if you don't. However, if you go and listen, its an EASY A. Book is required, any edition. Tons of E.C.!
Very challenging material. Sincere professor. Attend every class. (Attendance is taken at the end.) Extra credit and free quizes can help. It may change your belief system; it did mine. Maybe I would have eventually learned books pre-dated the bible with the same themes, I don't know.
AWESOME professor! He's very clear and has passion for what he teaches. Very helpful and nice, tells what will be on the tests and gives plenty of extra credit. Attendance is needed if you want to keept up. Highly recommend!
This material is hard and the tests are purely essays. However, I got an A on all of them. He is a easy grader and an amazing professor. He is very easy to listen to and make's it very interesting. I learned so much in this class and I hate philosophy!
Great professor, tells you exactly what he expects and what will be on the essay format tests. Makes sure everyone understands and is very helpful. He is very funny and makes the material enjoyable as well. I highly recommend him, unless you know you are lazy and dont want to do anything
Very knowledgable and understandable. A little monotone and mundane at times. You can tell that he wants you to learn the material and is very eager to help you if you need it. Read the material, ask questions and take the written assignments seriously and you will do fine.
Very informative teacher, Helps you understand all the content & is super funny. One of my favorite teachers on campus. Try to take his class!!
One of the best professors to have! The material isn't easy but he does explain/teach very good! He's funny and bases the written tests on his lectures. The tests are open book so your book is necessary. He's very realistic and social. very enjoyable class.
Material is not easy. However, Professor is extremely helpful and clear, definitely knows what he is talking about. Attend class, takes attendance and lectures will help with tests. Overall, recommended for PHIL. He makes it as painless as possible.
I took him for Philosophy 101 and 190. He is extremely informative and clear on the material he teaches. BOOK IS A MUST to pass. Just show up to class, take notes, understand the concepts and you will do well.
Boring Class. Attendance is a must. Test are difficult short answers. He only goes over what he wants in his assignment once and isn't very specific
Super boring class, but hes very helpful. He's pretty clear on what he wants and he makes sure you understand a concept before moving on. Grades a bit hard though...
Very helpful and nice. I admit the class was semi-boring if you are not interested in those things but overall a good professor.
Professor is very clear on the material and repeats himself a lot with lots of examples for you to understand the material. You must attend all his classes, and take good notes to do well. He does not post powerpoints online nor does he use powerpoints. Open-note 1st midterm, take-home second midterm, and multiple-choice final. Very chill dude.
Very easy and interesting class. Recommend this teacher a lot. Hes very clear, helpful, and funny. Work is easy if you attend class and do homework. Miss a class, you miss a lot. Definitely take him, you'll pass with an A or B, no doubt.
I was really excited about taking this class but it was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. Boring, irritating and if you ask a question he doesn't like he ignores it. Also, while he has had a hard life, he uses it for a pity party so people will pay attention. Don't get me wrong, he is kind but just an irritating teacher.
Great class! One of my favorite classes. Explains very well and class is entertaining. Make sure to take good notes! It'll help a lot.
Very easy class! Like all classes just participate, ask questions, and you will pass no problem. He is very detailed and a very good professor. Highly Recommend!
Very informative, this man literally made me want to change my major to philosophy. He opened my mind to so many new ideas. His passion for the subject is obvious and inspiring. I love philosophy because of the things I learned in his class. I would and hope to take him again in the future.
best philosophy professor I've taken, he is very helpful and his class is pretty easy, if you go to class it will be even easier because he repeats all the important stuff.
His lectures are the most boring thing in this entire world. His notes have little to no relation to the Midterms. Just bad all the way around.
Fidel was easily the best professor I've taken so far. Hilarious guy. Makes sure you know exactly what he's trying to explain, and breaks down everything for you. Work is there, but it's not difficult. Midterm and final were pretty easy, as long as you go to class. He does grade for attendance. Def would take again
Test are tough but if you fail them you can still get an A Doesn't allow late work and makes no exceptions even when absent Chill teacher and takes attendance everyday
Took him at cal poly. Cool guy. Easy class. Material is straight forward. Would take again but don't need to.
He does not use Blackboard, he rarely responds to emails. He is way better than Professor Roy. Philosophy of religion is a hard subject. He gives us open book/open notes. First test, he's a tough grader. Final exam he is more lenient. Everyone was worried about there grade in the class. The tests are essay questions that take hours to finish.
It is a difficult class. However, if you really study you are most likely going to pass. He is a tough grader but gives a lot of extra credit. He even allows you to use notes on the quizzes and final. Class is boring but he does really care about his students. I highly recommend to attend class everyday and to take good notes.
Loved that class.
This is guys is one tough grader. He doesn't use blackboard either. You have to go to his website to get all his information and even then its not accurate. We had to write an essay and several kids missed the class where he stated that we need a cover page He didn't count their essay, but gave the opportunity for some to make it up and no to others
He's a very passionate professor. His class can be hard but just attend every class and take good notes. I really enjoyed his class.
This professor does an awesome job at explaining the material thoroughly and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. He is clear on what he expects and how he grades. He's also pretty funny and tries to make the material interesting.
Excellent professor, really good at explaining the material and tries to make easy to understand as some of the readings are difficult. Grade consists of one midterm, one final, a paper and quizzes based on the reading. He also offers extra credit in case you don't do good on the midterm or final. Overall really good and is also pretty funny.
One midterm one final plus final essay. Quizzes are both take home & in class. Offers Extra credit. Attendance is part of your grade. Everything he talks about in every lecture is on the midterm & final so go to class.
Grade is made up of two tests, a few quizzes, and a paper. All test material comes from lecture and the power points he sends you. Quizzes and tests were straightforward, the paper was simple. Overall pretty easy class, interesting material.
Took him over summer, so he was probably more lenient than he usually is. Overall, he explained the material really well and was always there for extra help. Grade was based on a few quizzes and 3 tests. Make sure you pay attention to the readings. If you don't, you will definitely struggle on the tests since 2 of the 3 tests were essay based.
He is a boring guy, Never respond emails. 3 heavy heavy tests 6 quizzes and assignment paper that you will take bad grades with no logical reasons at all
Had him for 192 Phil of religion. Very open minded and keep his opinion out. So he wasn't bias with any side. Respect your input and try to challenge the students with thoughts to get them to think. The class is about logical thinking and using arguments in the right places. There is no wrong answer as long as your work shows that you understand.
He's a good teacher but the subject is very dry and boring, his test are very heavy on his lectures so take good notes. There are 3 tests and 1 essay and about 4 quizzes. The first two tests are not multiple choice so be ready to understand the information. Just be very attentive to his lectures.
Some of his lectures are heavy which makes it hard to keep up with what he is saying. Its confusing at time but he tries his best to explain everything. Take notes with a laptop bc its easy to type everything down then to write it.
This class was really interesting, and he had a sense of humor which made it entertaining as well. The class is very lecture heavy, so make sure to take good notes, preferably on a laptop-makes it easier. Tests are written response (lots of writing), some "quizzes" that acted as HW, and a term paper. Easy, just put in the work.
This class is a class you do not want to miss. there's a lot of information needed for the exams which are essay format, but overall easy class if you attend and pay attention and write good notes since he let you use them on the exams. 2 exams one, one short paper, 5"quizzes" that are done at home. offers extra credit. attendance apart of grade
Attend class and take really good notes just in case he lets you use them on the midterm and/or final. He lets you have two extra credit quizzes and will give you a few free quizzes if he doesnt finishing grading. Pay attention to him and ask questions to clear up any confusion and be specific on the essay questions in order to get a high grade.
My favorite teacher I had my first semester, in fact the only class I enjoyed. Attendance is mandatory, but needed because he explains and breaks down philosophers' proofs... Basically your notes are gold in this class, and he is very entertaining, relates his own experiences into the material you're learning in a way that helps you understand it
You need the textbook for in-book quizzes (mandatory 6 of them through the quarter), also need it for open note midterm (test is still pretty hard). Final is take home. 1 paper that he grades tough. You won't know your grade throughout the quarter. Overall, the class is religion so it's dense. Don't take this phil class if religion isn't your thing
Prof. Arnecillo is an amazing teacher. He knows how to gives lectures. He's extremely caring and empathetic. He's a good mentor to learn from. Passing the class is a joke. Just pay attention. I never read the book, but was able to ace the midterm and the final. Just pay attention, he's worth your time. He's caring to his students. He's a rare gem.
He doesn't use black board so you don't know your grade until its input on your transcripts, don't bother taking his class, he's very confusing and boring.
Professor just rants and rants don't have a clear goal when starting class. Class is very unorganized and structured poorly. Tends to talk about religion negatively, only Christianity, but he tries to defend himself after bashing it. Basically have to teach yourself everything and hope you understand. Makes racist comments with no evidence on topic
Covid online review. I took as a GE course, but I really liked this professor. As long as you showed up and did all the work on time you will do great. He is caring and understanding. He has a busy life, so sometimes slow to grade, but he is not a tough grader.
He is an awesome professor truly. He is clear on what he wants and helps as much as he can to make sure you get the grade you want. His lectures are straightforward. Overall he was one of the best professors I have taken.
Takes attendance everyday (in person) lecture heavy no homework has a midterm and final paper just asks us to read the readings prior to the class however really not necessary because he lectures and doesnt ask any questions on the readings, voice can be monotone but thats the only issue Ive had.
This professor is very unorganized and always changes due dates last minute. Very few assignments are given so if you do bad on the 1st exam or the paper your grade will be in jeopardy. Also, he treats the rough draft of the paper as the final draft so make sure you finish the paper.
He fell behind during the semester and never caught up again. His lectures are almost 5 full hours and he still doesn't finish the topic for the day. The semester was supposed to end on the 10th but due to him being behind we had to work until the 15th to get the work done.
Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what he presents. He is extremely understanding if issues arise and is not one that will deny a much-needed extension. He is very respectful and passionate about his work.
It can be hard to understand him at times and also he can talk extremely fast and move on topics during his lectures so be ready to write fast to take notes. Notes and knowledge of the readings are also important for his class.
Unable to get in contact with during the semester and assignments are usually only open for 24-48 hours. Not recommended to fulfill your Gen-Ed credits
Overall decent. Lectures are long and at times a little incomprehensible. The video lectures are long and there are a lot of 'umms' and 'uhhs' which make it hard to follow what is being said. Beyond that, the work is fairly easy, read the lecture powerpoints and readings and you will do fine.
The professor assigns 12 discussions, midterm, final exam, and final paper. The exams are written and have about 25-30 questions each! He takes a while to respond to emails. Also, he struggles with imputing grades! He has a reputation of not grading anything until grades are due. Good luck!
Passion doesn't translate well to lecturing. Extremely delayed with grading, only graded on one paper and 2-3 exams. Lectures fast with little written lectures. Very reading heavy. If taking for a GE i'd avoid this class.
Really nice guy and understanding, but just was very disorganized and didn't update grades until the very end of the semester. A lot of lectures didn't really make sense and tests were very difficult but at least he was really nice in general.
- highly unorganized w/ assignments and lecture videos. - lectures are repetitions of what we just read - so there's no actual break down of the readings which is very annoying. - states that he has an accent but I wouldn't say that's his issue. Every other word is uuuh or uuum. - he doesn't know how to teach his material. - I'm teaching myself
