His accent is a bit hard to pick up at first but his classes are interesting and his tests aren't too bad: 3 exams with matching and short answer with one essay although he gives you questions to answer
Awesome instructor!!!

very nice and intelligent avarage difficulty tests
He is the best. Just talk in class and do the readings. He has a great voice!
Fajardo is one of the best teachers at Creighton. If you want to learn, and don't mind reading, take him. If you are lazy, don't. His insight is amazing
awesome guy. nice and always friendly--makes you feel special!! not too hard. be willing to do work, but its not incredibly hard or time consuming. tests are fairly easy.
Interesting and makes class enjoyable.
He is the most interesting teacher ive ever had. He makes class fun, and he is easy becasue he helps you so much. Not too much work, takes attendence
hard, but one of the best profs you'll ever have.
Amazing class. I recommend it to all
He is the best teacher I have ever had. He has the most knowledge and insight of any teacher I have ever had. He challenges you, but you get a lot from him. He is fun and easy to work with. Use him as a resource. He is willing to help whenever. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Awesome professor!!!
I LOVE THIS MAN! even if you hate english you will enjoy his class! there are no tests, just a couple quizes and papers.
awsome teacher. good lecture
Great professor, study for those quizzes, they are more like exams. great class, recommend it!
Yes, you too can learn Old English! He's a brilliant man, which can make his classes tough, but he'll do everything in his power to make sure everyone can succeed. He's also into bucking the system, so you can do projects besides papers if you want.

Amazingly intelligent professor with awesome lecture ability. For SRP the subject matter is can be a little jarring (Read: Left-Wing) but he's such a great teacher it shouldn't matter. I couldn't recommend any higher. Know the required readings and participate in class and you're golden.
Dr. Fajardo is the smartest man on the campus. He made world lit one of the only classes I looked forward to going to. He didn't give tests in our class, just three quizzes and two 5 page papers. No midterm, and the final is just a project of anything you want! He is very excited about teaching, and his lectures are always interesting! Awesome!
He is an absolutely amazing teacher, and actually cares about the material he is teaching and his individual students. I went to class wanting to learn because his lectures are so interesting - such an intelligent man. The class itself was pretty easy, though definitely keep up with the readings, and don't slack off. Highly recommend!
amazing guy! his accent is awesome too, the man truly cares and is passionate about english and literature in general, also he is always willing to answer questions, make sure you read though, and dates are important in his tests!!!
Fidel is an amazing teacher!!! I loved his class and he was an excellent teacher. He was willing to meet with me outside of class if I needed extra help. He had difficult quizzes but will help you raise your grade if you are a commited student. His class is awesome!!! To take his class was the best decision that I've ever made.
Dr. Fajardo-Acosta is such an awesome guy. Before every class, he would talk to his students individually to see how their day was going. He's very intelligent and easy to talk to. Seems to really love his students and the material he teaches. I wish he taught all my classes! I highly recommend that you take his class! You'll love him!
Fajardo is an amazing teacher! We had 2 quizzes, 2 papers, 2 out of class reports, and a creative final project. It's such an easy class but I learned a lot because I was actually listening, not just mindlessly taking notes. He cares about each student and is willing to work with you. Plus, he has a really cool accent. He's fantastic, take him!!!
He knew (almost) everyone's name on the first day of class!! He doesn't just talk about textbook stuff, it is all about life! He grades the papers harshly and the quizzes are not easy, but please take him if you can!!
Favorite prof I've had here. And I even hate english. His lectures were always interesting. He really cares about each and every one of this students. Be prepared to work hard, but take him if you can!!!
Very tough on paper grading and quizzes but he knows his stuff. He's written books on the material discussed&is very passionate about it. Lectures are very grounded in history as well as the material. Overall, pretty interesting prof&class, just requires some work&studying.
This Prof is AWESOME!!! Although he depends a lot on history which is challenging but his lectures were always interesting and he really involves the class- The quizes were a little hard but he grades easily- the paper not so much. He really cares about his students- id definitely take him!!
Quizzes are extremely hard. Expects you to memorize the reading. Quizzes on dates, which is easy but I found pointless. Spends the entire class talking about his interpretations of the book. Very smart, nice and helps you if you need it. However I was bothered that we only interpreted the reading one way; he doesn't let students make theories.
The best prof anywhere!!! Fajardo knows his stuff! He wants you to learn and will do what it takes to make it happen. He knows sooo much and you never leave class without amazement! He is tough with quizzes but it is a welcome challenge to the usual learn nothing class. Take him!!
AWESOME! THERE IS NO BETTER PROF!
Great professor! Take him if you can.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! Class was easy, he refuses to accept views that diviate from deviate from his perspective. Rather than stimulating I found his class academically stifling. College is about learning to think for yourself, not becoming someone?s mouthpiece. He is a great example of a professor who is isolated from the real world.
He should not be teaching. He has no respect for students--or any opinions other than his own for that matter. Regurgitate what he says word for word and you'll be fine but heaven forbid you try to think in his class.
Read, read, read and read some more and you will be fine. Be ready to comment in each class about the material for that week. He is an interesting guy and one of the better instructors I have had.
This class was the hardest three week summer session I've ever taken. Be prepared to read a book a night, and be tested on everything covered in class. An a is almost impossible, but not quite. Although he has some rigid opinions he is not unwilling to listen to his students. Overall, got me very interested in the material and the time flew by.
The best lectures on campus, he's tough though. You will most definately learn in his class, but absolutley not the easy 'A' other professors may be. Grades particularly tough on papers for being a lit class.
Absolutely the best prof I've had. Be prepared to work. He will make you think and keep thinking after the class is over.Take any class you can with him!
I took his online summer class, and it was a fairly easy A. You have to post everyday - as long as you do it, you'll be fine, and take quizzes - I did poorly on most of the quizzes and still got a good grade. The two essay tests are not bad and he grades them fairly easily. He focuses on what your saying rather than grammar and the way you write.
Doesn't use evidence to support his theories. Doesn't take into account any other opinions but his own. Wastes class time. Personally attacks students if they question his opinions. By far the worst prof./class I've ever taken. Easy A if you regurgitate what he thinks and not think for yourself. Wait until Murray teaches it if you want this SRP.
Fajardo is incredible. He was the reason I changed to an English major. The quizzes are all online, but if you have done the reading and studied a litte, you should be fine. Plus, his accent is wonderful
Awesome guy. Best professor ever. His lectures are incredibly awesome. Loved going to class, it is actually my favorite class at creighton. take him
This man is so intelligent and full of wisdom! Honestly not a hard class if you listen to his extremely interesting lectures.
He thinks he's god and really seems to impress himself.
Great professor. Class is somewhat difficult, but it is an upper level English class. I would recommend him because he takes a personal interest in his students and their learning. Class isn't too bad as long as you pay attention to his lectures. Extremely intelligent and will work with you to get your grade to where you want it to be. Take if able
Weekly Reading plus several writing assignments. More work than the typical SRP as it is crosslisted as ENG and PHL. Do not take if you love capitalism.
Only teaches his opinion, not open to discussion even though he says it is, lots of reading but you won't need to do any of it because he tells you what to think anyway. Cynical, makes blanket statements and generalizations. Not helpful.
He's a great guy. Really intelligent, charismatic, and good sense of humor. However, his quizzes are sometimes tricky. Be sure to read the stories AND his lectures provided. I made the mistake of not reading, and only studying his lectures, and I'd get screwed over. Definitely recommend this class though!
Night class made lectures a little long but as a whole a good class. I didn't buy the book and still got an A. Grade based on online midterm (not timed), term/creative project and participation (he cancelled the final). Easy enough class if you pay attention and participate a little. Fajardo is a nice guy and a prof you want to get to know.
Online (accelerated) summer class that lasted one month: super knowledgeable, more feedback than I've gotten from any other professor. Extremely high volume of reading/writing required & fairly tough grader. Got an A but worked harder than I did on most 300/400-level English courses.
Maybe it's just me, but I found Dr. Acosta to be a little too difficult for a 100 level ENG course. He is really nice and helpful. If you are insightful, he'll like you, but getting that grade is tough. He expects a lot (too much for me) from his students and you can find yourself spending more time on this class than other 300-levels.
2 short essays and 5 quizzes over the reading. The term project, incl a 5-10 informal presentation, was the "final". If you do the reading, you'll ace the quizzes, which will include bonus points when he factors the "curve". Participation and attendance are graded, so go to class and answer questions. Would DEFINITELY take again.
Pretty certain of his own interpretations.
You have to work to get an A but you'll easily get a B by just showing up. Grades quizzes on a huge curve, two papers, a midterm and a final that were take home. Would definitely recommend this class!
You have to show up and participate, but you're pretty much going to get a B. An A if you put in the effort. You'll learn a ton from him though.
Dr. Fajardo-Acosta is one of the best teachers I've ever had the pleasure of taking. His class was engaging and his analysis of the many texts were eye-opening. I have the utmost respect for him and if I had the room in my schedule I would definitely take him again.
Fidel is hands-down the most impressive professor I had at Creighton. I fortunate enough to take his Senior Perspective and History of the English Language. He makes students think for themselves and pushes them to see different perspectives. He also is always available for additional help. I loved the readings and the discussion.
Dr. Fajardo-Acosta is the hands down the best teacher I have ever had. His lectures and insights profoundly impacted the way I interpret literature and many other forms of history and entertainment. I would (and am going to) take another one of his courses any day.
He is amazing ! Best professor I have had at Creighton, anyone who writes a bad review on Acosta probably just did not go to class. He is very personable, cares a ton about his students, makes an effort to get to know all his students. Also would not say he is hard, especially if you ask him for help.
He lectures are brilliant and amazing, so engaging that you leave with a sense of awe about the world you thought you knew. He is funny and encouraging, always asking students to conjecture, and then tying that into the lesson. I simply have not discovered a teacher more interested in my exploration of the subject. Knowledge is what he shares.
Best professor I've had in two years here. Lectures dissect the material and you end up learning life lessons. He is on another level when it comes to giving quality lectures. Takes attendance by walking around classroom and chatting a bit with each student asking how they are. Lots of reading, quizzes can be a bit difficult but so worth it!
Going into this class, I saw how many readings there were and dreaded it. I went to the first lecture and it was awesome. He questioned all of human existence and kind of changed my perspective on things. We read 5 classic books from different time periods and he tied them all together perfectly. He grades hard, but ultimately wants an A for all.
Dr. Fajardo-Acosta is amazing!! I really wanted to take his class and I'm glad that I did. His lectures are absolutely amazing and it really changed my prospective. I never thought I would enjoy this class but he makes the information interesting and easy to understand. Lots of reading & quizzes for each. 3 papers with good feedback. Really caring!
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. Amazing lectures. I'm not exaggerating. Take him. Even if you don't agree with some things he says, you'll learn a lot. He's incredibly wise and a great speaker. He is on the watchlist for some conservative website. That's because he's awesome. It's a privilege to have the chance to listen to Professor Fajardo-Acosta.
This professor changed my life. He was so attentive and willing to work with his students. No matter how bad I did on a quiz he always reminded me that I could do better and could keep working. He is one of the teachers that actually want you to do well in life, not just pass the class. I would take this class 10 times over.
He is a truly caring professor. At the beginning of each and every class, he goes around the room for ten to fifteen minutes and checks in with each and every student. A quarter of the grade is participation, but the syllabus suggests that this is highly subjective and awarded at his discretion.
Literally the most amazing person and professor you will ever meet. He is very caring and makes class super interesting. I always look forward to class with him. His class can be challenging, but he gives you everything you need in order to be successful in his class. His class will help you not only in school, but in life as well.
Dr. Fidel is an amazing professor. He's the epitome of a liberal arts prof and teaches the course in a way that brings Jesuit values into action. He's super nice, very understanding, and respects students who participate and attend office hours. Even though ENG 220 is a core course, he adds lessons that are applicable to life outside the classroom.
He is super easy. He quizes that are extremely hard over a lot of readings/information. But he ends up curving them and then even dropping MULTIPLE quizes and even an essay. Participation is very important. He is a very passionate prof, but make sure your work reflects his alt-left wing views, to make it easier to get an A.
Dr. Fajardo-Acosta truly cares about his students but does not adequately test their knowledge. Your grade is made up of 5 quizzes (only 2 of which he counted because they are so difficult), 2 essays, and participation. He takes forever to grade papers and does not use blue line so it is hard to know where you stand in the class.
NIGHTMARE..
Dr. Fajardo is a nice guy, however his class is not what you expect out of a literature class. You are graded off of 2 quizzes and 2 exams and if you do poorly you will likely get a bad grade. For a literature class, he hardly tested our knowledge on the books that we read but rather put unfair hand drawn maps and timelines of history instead.
He is a great guy. Everyday he will come up to everyone individually for attendance and ask you how you are doing. Attendance and participation is worth 25% of your grade. His quizzes are extremely hard but he curves them and will drop some as well. Be prepared to ID locations on a map that he draws which are hard to identify what is what.
Fidel expects way too much out of his students and his quizzes and tests are grossly overspecific. He gives way too much information to study for the quizzes, little of which has relevance towards the actual literature we are reading. This is not a literature class, it is a world history, anthropology, and religion class all in one. Do not take!!!
Taking Fidel is an experience in itself and I strongly recommend it just because he is so eccentric and has some WILD views. he is really funny and makes everything relate to your life. He doesn't use blue line and just emails you a bunch of random stuff. Take Fidel while you can, its so interesting regardless of the material.
He is nice and political, whatever. The question is: Do you become a better writer or reader in his class? The answer is no. The class emphasizes background knowledge, but puts little focus on student writing, hence the trivia quizzes/tests rather than essay-writing. It would be a terrible history class and is an even worse English class instead.
If you have been really good at english in the past I would take this class. Even though Dr. Acosta is a really good teacher and has some phenomenal ideas, there is an extreme amount of work you need to put it to do well and you could be better off managing your time in another class. It really depends on what you decide to do.
Basically 4 grades all semester, All essays. Participation is key. Didn't really learn anything on how to write one of these essays so struggled from the start. If you write well you'll be fine but for those who don't write well, don't take this. Lecture was painfully long and not sure how it applied to the writing 95% of the time.
Most inspirational professor at Creighton, hands down.
Absolutely horrible. Worst professor Ive had at Creighton hands down.
You may be on the border because youve heard bad things from people but see good reviews on here. I was the same way and decided to try it out, thinking maybe people exaggerated how bad he was. I assure you, taking Fidel is not worth it and most of these reviews are not accurate at all. DO. NOT. TAKE.
I have never met a more intellectually insecure professor, or academic in general, for that matter, in my entire life.
If you want to take a history class disguised as a literature class, this is the class for you. In my opinion, a boring lecturer, but he does care about his students, he starts every class with talking to every single student. His papers are more often than not analysis of a poem, or painting. He grades hard for no reason. Nice guy, boring class.
He had a strange grading system and gave engaging, but super long lectures. His lectures were so long I got a UTI once. That's more my fault than his, but it attests to how long his lectures are.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!
Dr. Fajardo is a nice and intelligent guy, but there are several big problems for those considering him: 1) It's not a global literatures class, more like superficial world history 2) Very pretentious, the lectures are just him showing off 3) One of the toughest graders I've taken 4) Don't expect an A for participation even if you share in class
We were graded on two papers, participation, and a final essay. It is a tough class, but when writing about readings, make sure to analyze the deeper meanings! These aren't online and require critical thinking. If you only share superficial interpretations, you won't get a good grade. Do the readings before class and participation will be easy.
He's a decent guy who you can tell cares, but he is so boring in lectures. He believes his view is correct no matter what and doesn't like to talk about how you think. The papers are the big thing in the grade book and he is a tough grader with no clear rules/requirements on how he grades.
He honestly was not the worst professor in the world. I felt as though he thinks very highly of himself and his views. The lectures were boring but sometimes interesting; if you pay attention, you will do great on the essays. There are only 3 essays toward your grade so if you're not a good writer make sure to participate.
Some major issues with this class. Not a global literatures class, more like "my opinions on history". The lectures are just him showing off and he takes himself way too seriously. Hard grader. I am a very good writer and should have had an A on each paper but because it wasn't written in his style to his liking it wasn't acceptable. Socialist BS.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
This man is confidently wrong about so much it's not even funny anymore. He grades essays and participation with extreme bias based on his world view and it creates a hostile learning environment between students and professor.
This man is an absolute legend. Please take him if you want to come back home with wild stories. If you put good thought into your papers and basically just back up whatever he says in class, you will be fine. Do not be intimidated by him.
He has a lot of opinions and the class often seems to be taught from a specific point of view. At the beginning of every class he has a conversation with every individual student for about 30 seconds each. There were about three essays in his class and these essays and participation make up the majority of your grade.
There are many mixed opinions on Professor Acosta. All I can say is I have never let a class feeling like I have learned more about myself as a writer and the world. He will seem very strict right off the bat, but genuinely cares about each student and their growth. Pay attention and raise your hand in class, you will do well!
This man is pessimistic, paranoid, and believes that the human race is unable to be improved. He maintains little optimism about the world. He perpetuates this view, and he will obliterate your essays if you do not reflect similar ideas. He refuses to entertain differing belief systems, while confidently spouting incorrect information. DO NOT TAKE!
Cares about his students a ton with spending the first 15 minutes of every class checking up on every student individually. That being said he tends to lean heavily into communist views and is not open to different outlooks on life. His lectures tend to be long and there is no technology or bathroom breaks allowed in his class.
Professor Acosta has strong opinions, but he genuinely cares about students' growth. The class can be challenging, but engaging with the material and participating actively helps you do well. I found unstuck ai to be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
You won't get a good grade if you don't write to his ideals: four essays, three of em in class. No prep for the essay could help you at all. YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE. Nice person, but I personally wish I never took his class. Gives feedback.
Participation absolutely matters, you literally have to monopolize the conversation throughout the whole class to get participation points. If you are quiet, not a strong writer or are right-leaning, do not take this class. If you have differing political views to him, do not speak up. Just smile and nod for an hour, and you should be fine.
I think this professor is a nice guy but man I have never met someone with such strong opinions about everything. You will get random quizzes with no warning that have reading specific questions. And do not have your phone out in class, or even on the table, you could get kicked out.
Undiagnosed narcissist who believes "there are dishonest and malicious individuals operating on our campus". He does not entertain any other ideas, and only gives you a good grade if you agree with what he says. Also for a global literatures class there is very little diversity in the texts. None from Asia and only one from South/Central America.
Nah this guy is funny. I get it that people might not like his views or whatever but 90% of this class is pure comedy. Just do the readings (which are few) and attend class. From my understanding, though, this professor does have some bias in terms of grading. Some students struggle to get a B, while others always get an A
He is very friendly and will go up to each person before class starts and ask about your day. You will talk about one reading for a long time, and you will really get in depth. His grading is a little tough, but overall great. He is also quite funny, but really has a problem with ANY tech in the room, so put it away.
IDK why everyone hates him so much. While yes, he has very strong opinions, overall hes a really funny and caring prof. I personally did not struggle in this class and I did little to no reading and zoned out most of class. His essays are a bit random but they werent difficult and just write what you think he would best agree with.
