Terrible lecturer. Drones on and on. Boring. Unclear what will be on tests.
Soooooothing voice goes onnnnn zzzzzzzzzz
gets boring after a while and you find yourself not caring anymore.
You never have to come to class! All you have to do is memorize the pictures
Kind of boring lectures, basically memorize the pictures for the midterms.
If you can memorize the stuff, easiest class ever! If not, good luck!
Can get a little boring, but he cares about his students. Class is interesting and he doesn't make it to hard. As long as you can memorize facts, it's pretty easy.
dont ever go to class, just go to lab and memorize the pictures and u will get an A, plus all the girl TAs grade easily since Yegul doesnt tell them what he wants.
Mr. Roman Baths! I love his sneaker/suit ensembles! This man is very hip. His class ain't too bad either.
I love how he makes up his own words! He's a funny guy, and I loved his class this quarter. Some TAs suck, but you're lucky if you get Charlie Peterson...he's awesome.
very knowledgable about Greek and Roman Architecture
While I'm sure he really loves this stuff, it's very hard to tell when he's being enthusiastic. His accent makes him hard to understand at times, and therefore really easy to fall asleep to.
Yegul knows his architecture....but he tends to only talk about it, and not a lot about art... his accent does make it hard to understand him at times...
Boring boring boring, spends a half hour on a temple and then rushes through the statues and paintings, class should be called history of architecture. Not clear about test material, and grades depend on what TA you end up with.
great speaker... funny "fikret-isms"
Insightful teacher, though you do wind up hearing only what he wants to talk about. Didn't even bother to try and give us anything about Islamic or Mesopotamian art, but his knowledge of Roman and Greek art is fantastic. The dude built a roman bath!
very easy to fall asleep to.
Yegul is too full of himself, way too obsessed with greek and roman architecture, goes on tangents, boring lectures.
Fikret Yegul is so boring!!! Don't ever take him!
Lectures were pretty interesting...there were a few dry ones though. Overall, it's a pretty easy class. Easy A.

BORING BORING BORING. if you do your work it should be easy but its so boring that its impossible to learn. also this guy has the heaviest accent his is practically impossible to understand. and dont leave before class is over or he will randomly flip out
Class was pretty straitforward...if you know the images/architecture youll do fine. dont worry about reading the book in depth doesnt really show up on the test. dont forget to study the vocab.
class was pretty interesting. his first name is cool. not a great class, but not a boring one either. missed class a few times but managed to do the final in less than 5 mins. Roman baths aren't *that* interesting.
dude is boring, but not hard
Loved the class, this guy knows what he is talking about. The accent is a bit tough to get through, but is actually charming. Go to class, take good notes, and relax on the reading.
I wouldn't know...I sleep in all of his lectures.
Worthless class. Apparantly, undergrads aren't expected to write papers! Refused to create a website, give out study materials much too late, graded with a "shotgun" method. He phoned in a lot of his lectures. Everything was analyzed in a formal sense, no great insights into Roman culture. Skip i
Very interesting, but not enough direction for papers
BBBBBOORINNNNNNNGGGG!! You all are too generous in your ratings. The guy should have stuck to architecture. Who ever told him he would make a good profes. probably just wanted to get rid of him.
Very boring
Just read the book and go to sections. Lectures are pointless. I slept right through each one.
Horrible. Doesn't match study images with ones he's taught. Most likely a failed architect that couldnt do anything else. Hardly knows anything besides architecture, although the course is supposed to be a general survey. If you do take it, dont go to lecture. Ever.
I took AP art history in high school and absolutely loved the class and passed the ap and everything. then i cam here and decided to take 6A and it was the worst mistake ever. He is very unclear, disorganized, he doesnt come prepared to class and he has the most boring pointless lectures. he is just a horrible professor! Avoid him at all costs!
One of the worst class I've taken! The professor gives extremely boring lectures and how can I focus when he puts me to sleep. Lots of memorization for the class. This professor makes me want to never take art history again.
lectures aren't that interesting, but sometimes they aren't too bad. the book is decent, and it's a decent intro to art history. lots of memorization...but it is art history. he does focus significantly more on architecture though.
The subject material isn't boring, but the professor makes it almost impossible to stay awake and remain interested. Seriously, how much time does someone need to talk about concrete? According to my professor, about three hours worth. Avoid the class if you procrastinate. I didn't sleep for a couple of a days to memorize all of the images.
Like everyone else said, pretty boring class. Not a hard class at all if you go to class but in hindsight, I could have missed every lecture and done fine. The tests are basically all memorizing pictures, so if you know that ahead of time, just memorize the pictures early and you'll be fine.
Class was simple, its a type of class where you can get an easy A if you study. It was a writing requirement and we only had one paper 2-3 pages long. Yegul's the****
Yeguls lectures are the most boring in the whole school. I never went to class becaus i would just sleep through them a anyways. there's A LOT of material on the tests.. start studying early. I never went to class and barely studied and I got a B sooooo it's a pretty easy class
Yegul is SO boring and almost impossible to understand. I never went to class because I too would sleep through every lecture. Reading is so important because you seriously have to know all of the images. The only reason for going to lecture is because he used mostly images from class on the tests. Relatively easy, but a LOT of information.
I really loved the class although I was expecting more Medieval art. Sure he had monotone but he talked about interesting things and he was poetic and a bit funny sometimes. Tests were not bad at all if you attend lectures and sections you can even accurately predict what will be on them. The reading just helps to add extra stuff to your answers.
extremely boring teacher. He just goes over every single picture slide and talk about how "fascinating" those achitect and drawings are. It's all memorization so if you think you're good at memorizing things, you should take this class.
HORRIBLE. Don't take Art History if he is your professor. He will RUIN the subject for you.
Oh Fikret...he is amazing. I know everybody thinks he is boring and miserable to listen to, but if you really pay attention to the knowledge that this guy has, you learn to appreciate him. 6A covered an wonderful scope of art and taught me how to appreciate it. If you ever plan on going to Rome, then take this class. You will know everything.
He has a thick accent that is hard to undersatand...you also tend to zone out, but he pauses alot [sometimes for 20 seconds plus]so it is easy to jump back in.
Obviously very passionate about his subject. He's very knowledgeable and the class is interesting, but exams involve lots of memorization.
The lectures can be really boring sometimes but the things he teaches are really interesting if you're into art. He gives his best lectures when it comes to Roman art...he obviously loves the subject. It's helpful if you have a good TA cuz you can get lost pretty quickly. I find it helpful to read AFTER he gives his lectures
He has so much to say! THis man is an awesome guy! haha you get to see him in a towl when you get to the part about Roman baths, he made a roman bath and showed a movie of it. THis man is very hilarious, but he is so in a subtle way. Pay attention to him in lecture, it is obvious what he wants on the test. Super easy!

He was a really good prof and is excited about what he teaches. That always makes a lecture more interesting. He was very helpful and liked for students to communicate with him.
First of all, if you don't have to take his class, DON'T. Seriously, unless you're an art history major or you KNOW you're interested in art history, choose a different class to fill those GEs. The tests are basically all memorizing the images and their context information. If you're not interested in ArtHi then this class is a total bore.
Let me give an objective description of the class: puts two slides up next to each other with no words on the screen and he talks about them. Has a monotone voice. The subject matter is art history. The tests require you to memorize about 50-100 ids/terms. If this combination can work for you then take the class, for me I regret the class.
The class requires
The class requires A LOT of memorization. By the final I had about 250-300 flash cards I had to know!...including images, and some terms But I nailed the final because I memorized it all. So basically STUDY, GO TO LECTURE. Stuff in lectures ended up on the tests. Most find it boring though. but DO NOT PROCRATINATE.
This class wasn't too bad. You have to memorize a lot of images and know something about each of them, but that's not that hard. Lectures got really boring sometimes. Especially when he goes on about floor plans. If you sit with a group of friends it can be fun though, because he has some catch phrases that are fun to listen for, "as it were."
Not a hard class, just lots to memorize, and not a class to get behind in because on the midterm there was 60+ slides and the final was about 80+. You don't have to go to lecture or do all the reading, just read about the artworks on the art lists and listen in section. Prof. is a bit dry but he's a good guy and very passionate about Roman baths.
TERRIBLE Professor. Unclear, rude, and mean. Grading was very unfair. Does not believe in partial credit. Did not seem he even read the final. TERRIBLE!
I am an Art History Major and I really do love the subject. Unfortunately, Yegul's poor teaching style kept me from attending the class. We played "Fikret Bingo" because of his ridiculous catchphrases and I learned nothing about art. He only talks about architecture in his lectures and its frankly infuriating. I wish he used better slides.
This class was not difficult. Tests consisted of 2 comparison essays, 10 or so identification slides, 3 or 4 defining terms, and some true or false questions. Just memorize the images on the list and a couple defining characteristics about each and you'll be fine. Also, do you're paper a little early and have your ta look at it--this helps.
rude, hard grader. the material was outrageously boring, and he only made it worse. don't take it unless you're a boy.
this was the worst class i've ever taken. I couldnt understand anything the professor said. you're better off skipping lecture and just reading the textbook.
cute old man, with a turkish accent. the material is kind of boring but it wasn't too bad. it's not neccessary to do ALL of the reading, just know the images and buildings. paper's not too hard either.
Teacher is hard to understand but knows his stuff. the midterm and final is really hard!! you have to really memorize EVERYTHING it sucks! the class is interesting just very pointless for life. discussions are mandatory but lectures not so much as long as you keep up with the reading. I don't recommend this class.
This class isn't necessarily "hard", you just have to memorize A LOT. Lecture isn't mandatory, you can learn the exact thing by reading the book. Material is somewhat interesting, but the class is boring. I would only recommend this class to those who are good at memorizing, however this class does take care of many GE's.
His accent is REALLY hard to understand. The class, although easy, was boring and monotonous. Unless you are really interested in art history this class is hard to wake up for. Because all the information is on the website, I learned way more from section than lecture.
This class requires ALOT of studying. Start making flashcards at the beginning of the quarter and continue studying them and you will do well.
Honestly so boring. Unless you're an art history major. His accent lulls you to sleep and its hard to drag yourself to lecture. section is super important. lots of studying, definitely memorization and flash cards. not too difficult, but definitely boring. REALLY boring.
This guy knew what he was talking about. I loved his enthusiasm and even though he had an accent it was pretty easy to understand him if you payed attention. The tests were all about memorizing the images and understand them in context; not too hard. Sections are mandatory. One midterm, 5 page paper, and final. He was on PBS!
This guy is it.
The cutest old man ever! is a good orator, ethusiastic, and cracks a lot of jokes. you will just want to put him in your pocket!!
Yegul really knows his stuff but the class itself and his accent WILL put you to sleep. There is really no point to going to discussions, but sections are a MUST.
Really hard to understand and doesnt post names of images on screen. Class is only worth going to for a nap
The class requires a lot of studying of images and is sort of a pain. Overall it is very interesting and as long as you study as class goes along, it should be pretty manageable. I would recommend this class especially since it fulfills a lot of GE's.
So boring. He offers little to no insight into the subject matter. I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher. Probably more into his research than the teaching. Makes everything sound like the most boring thing on the planet
Class is pure easy memorization, all you have to do is study images from the website and book. Tests were easy if you study hard they're basically just IDing pictures on the screen. There's one easy essay for the quarter 5-7 pages. Lectures are boring but Yegul is an absolute expect on the on subject. Great class since is fulfills alot of GEs
One of the worst classes i ever took. Basically, if you enjoy memorizing about 100 useless facts such as exact dates and locations that boring arches and buildings are made, then this class is for you and good luck. Other than that, lectures put me to sleep, and my section TA couldn't identify what good writing looks like. I'd avoid this class.
The class if boring. Can't understand anything he's saying. Said material from before the midterm wouldn't be on the final, then turns out the final is cumulative. Good luck, Yegul is just all around terrible.
This class is almost entirely dependent on your ability to memorize artworks and facts relating to them. The course is relatively easy and I recommend that people refer to the course website for the best info on assignments and for use as a study tool.
Took Culture of Architecture with him as well as 6A. 6A was pretty boring, he put me to sleep some days but it's all just memorizing pictures and dates, 136X there was way more artistic involvement. Also he can be heard in a 40 person class, the accent is sometimes too much in the 6A lecture hall but he's worth taking an upper-div from!
He gives you a list of over 100 vocab words and even more pictures, and they aren't organized by time period. Basically this course requires a lot of work outside of class, as his lecture jumps all over the place and goes in no particular order. If you read the book and take a lot of notes though it is pretty easy to get an A.
Yegul's accent isn't that bad I can understand everything he says. Sure his voice is pretty boring, but I think section makes up for what you don't get for Yegul. Pretty easy class. If you're good at memorization you'll get a good grade just read the textbook.
People may bag on Yegul's accent--yet for me, it made the class much more interesting and enjoyable. I felt like I was watching a history channel presentation every lecture. If you attend lecture, take notes (more applicable to the test then textbook), and make picture flash cards (not a lot of work)--you will get a good grade.
I was very disappointed after taking his course. He is a very hard grader. He will find anything in his quizzes to take points off. I was very dedicated to his class and did all the reading, never missed a lecture and he would still find a reason to grade harshly. Please do yourself a favor and dont take him!
Deducts points like crazy. Expects you to memorize everything. Interesting class overall if you're actually curious about roman architecture.
Incredibly boring lectures; really fails to make the subject matter interesting and engaging. On top of that, his tests are very nit-picky and difficult.
Yegul has a superiority complex and isn't afraid to be ostentatious of his knowledge. He presents information in a mundane & tedious fashion, that ensures even the most optimistic student's moral to deter. If you want a difficult class, an extremely subjective hard grader, and ridiculously specific tests, take any of his classes. But Seriously Dont
