Very enjoyable prof with clear lectures and expectations. She made a 9am class interesting and relatively fun.

Fiona is a wonderful teacher. If you are very interested in sociology as a major, definetly look to getting advice from her. Do not talk while she is talking (obviously, since it is rude), but she will make a pt. to dislike you.

Dr. Angus is very left-wing in her worldview and not real open to conservative viewpoints. If you can get past this, she is an excellent prof. Very helpful and personable. Tells excellent stories too. Take her class.

Personally, I thought she was great. Dr. Angus is extremely approachable and has seen and done many things in her life that she uses in class to benefit her students. Her first midterm is relatively easy; becomes more challenging as the course goes on. LOVE the Experience Summaries - VERY helpful!!!

teaching style: lots of stories, overhead notes that provide outlines of what to look at in text, go to your lectures b/c she gives examples that appear on the exam & also ques on movies that are watched in class. If you show interest, she will really like you. Makes class extremly interesting!

I don't think she is on the side of the students. She gives the impression that she thinks all students are cheaters, and lazy suburbanites. She preaches her ideology without actually inspiring students to do anything. I think if she did inspire, a lot of good change would come to the world.

I finished 3 classes with her, and I'll tell you all, she changes the way you think for the better, but she expects her students to work HARD. This class is my favorite, as Dr. Angus really gets students to think hard about the material. She uses lots of great examples which helps alot in understanding the material.

What an amazing teacher. She uses tons of examples from her life to illustrate the concepts (write down the examples, as they will appear on the exams!). Her lectures are interesting and usually pretty funny. She is very willing to help you and her course is very easy, provided you show up to class and actually listen. Great teacher, very inspiring

Personal stories are great! She uses them to teach, to give examples. Go to all her classes and you won't regret it one bit! She's open to student's ideas, my fave prof!

Definitely a good teacher, makes a lame subject like sociology somewhat interesting as many of the topics apply directly to her life experience. make sure you pay attention to her stories and videos as they WILL be on the midterms, almost more than the textbook stuff. Also the final exam for soci 101 is an essay which is kind of bs but whatever.

Questions on videos shown in classes and her own personal stories are on exams...so make sure you show up every class. She takes attendance too. Exams are fair. She's a decent instructor. However, I do find that she doesn't go over 1/2 of the stuff in the textbook and it's your responsibility. I would recommend her to anyone.

Marvellous instructor who expects you to work hard. You'll learn so much about sociology from Dr. Angus. Gives lots of great examples, many from her own life experiences. A truly enjoyable and entertaining professor!

She's hilarious! I really enjoyed going to her classes. So funny. I LOVED her carnival research, entertaining and interesting! Over all great but one problem I had was I did an assignment on a chapter that we were doing at the time(Wasn't very clear that that was the only chapter we weren't allowed to do the assignment on) got a zero on that one.

As much as I didnt enjoy this prof I enjoyed the class, it was very easy as the journal entries were the only homework and could be done in half an hour if you tried. If you want to do well, learn what this teacher thinks and replicate it on your entries and exams. Pay attention to the movies and examples she gives as they are on the tests.

Fiona does her best to educate her students and you can learn a lot from her like i did however she can be kinda forceful in her teaching and her test are hard!!! if you study you may pass but unless you work really hard(or can memorize a textbook) you cant get a good mark

She's very nice and quite helpful and she's an entertaining professor. But the manner in which she structures the course, and her tests are a joke. This class was a complete waste of my time, it's like taking a 8th grade class at a third year level. Not to mention 10% of your grade being devoted to attendance is completely ridiculous.

Dr. Angus is a wonderful lady. Her tests are extremely hard - but if you study, you'll do fine! MAKE SURE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE DOCUMENTERIES she shows in class, and take detailed notes... a lot of the stuff in them is on midterms and finals. Fiona is great at giving help if you need any. Fiona is great. She is very funny, and her classes r quite interesting even at 8 am in the morning. She shows documentaries to supplement her teaching. She focuses a lot on the textbook, and most of her exam questions come out of the text. Her exams are very hard if you do not study the book, make sure you attend her review classes before the exams

Fiona's a pretty awesome prof. Always has interesting lectures and would be great for first year students because she checks in with how you are doing without the semester. Which is pretty cool. Does talk about her life a lot but it relates to what we are learning which can help us better remember things in the end. Take a class with her.

SO GOOD. I love this Prof, she's extremely down to earth & interesting. She has been trough a lot in her life & isn't afraid to use life experiences as examples in class, which i find really helps me remember the info. She also really hates trick questions so her mid terms are straight forward

I loved Fiona at first. As the semester went on she really started to get on my nerves. She wasted a lot of time, and was often not prepared for class. She would either run out of time or not have nearly enough planned. Her exams are not well written and several questions on each exam could be argued because they were poorly written or prepared

Fiona is a fantastic Profesor. She is not conventional at all which was a nice change from some of the other Profs I have had who are very by- the -book and present material in a mundane fashion. She speaks of her own life and uses lots of interesting videos in class. Attendance is mandatory and is worth 10% .Go to class and you get easy marks!

Fiona is a great professor that is really passionate about what she does and wants all her students to succeed. Attendance is mandatory as 10% of your grade is dependent on it as well as things discussed in class turn up on exams. Exams are fairly easy and assignments are just bonus marks worth 15%. Super easy to get the full 15%. Highly recommend!

Pretty good prof, doesn't tolerate chatting, texting and lateness. Exams are easy, attendance is 10% of your mark so a nice bonus. Clear notes and lectures but not much discussion,assignments were EASY. My only complaint is that she doesn't use blackboard at all. and she won't give you notes you missed SO ATTEND CLASS.

She is funny and uses her life as examples to make you understand more. Attendance is mandatory because it's worth 10% and doesn't post the notes on blackboard ... Overall though she is a sweet lady and I highly recommend her, GPA booster for sure :) but just like any other university class, you have to work hard for a good mark in her class.

Prof. Angus is great! A West Coast Pagan with advice on how to succeed in university. Tests were easy for me. Though, I found the textbook and her lectures to be interesting. Tells you exactly which textbook pages to read before the midterms. Written assignments are reasonable. Best prof. of the semester.

Angus is great, the only thing she expects is for you to come ontime and be there everyday, put away your phone, and pay attention. and thats all you need to do to pass! seriously never studied and i was getting 75-80s on the test just because i actually wrote notes and listened. WRITE EVERYTHING SHE SAYS, ask if u need to and youll do fine!

I have really enjoyed this class. Fiona is a little picky about how she runs her class, but I didn't mind too much because she is very clear about how she likes things to be. I like that she is honest, and will call you out if you aren't trying your hardest. I loved attending her lectures. She's a very interesting person!

This is the 3rd time I've had Fiona and she's pretty good. I've seen some reviews on here and yes she is tough, but she pushes you to succeed. Midterms are tough and tricky, but the final is easier cause its an essay and you can draw material from the entire course. Attendance is mandatory and it boosts your grade if you go to classes.

I've taken 3 courses with Fiona and I just love her! She's tough but always fair. Gives out summary questions for each chapter which are amazing. Great videos and grate sense of humour too. To the other person who said she says student's marks out loud so all the class can hear, Fiona did not do that at all. Highly recommend.

Professor Angus was clearly very experienced, knowledgable, and passionate about the course material. Her tests do include many side notes or stories she tells in lecture so class attendance is mandatory in order to do well, however her lectures are fantastic. She is strict on being punctual with attendance and assignments so don't be late.

Pros: come to class on time, shut up, take notes and put your phone away you will have no issues. Before each midterm tells you exactly what pages to read in textbook. Cons: Her voice is monotone and boring and she singles you out for being late or leaving early, and awkwardly makes up excuses for herself when she's late. She also tests on her life

Come to class, take notes, and pay attention. Really, it's not that difficult and should be expected. Before every test she goes through the text page by page and tells you exactly what to study for. If you attend class you won't miss that and you will be prepared. Even for the final, which was essay format. I didn't even study.

I love Fiona. She is the whole reason why I've decided to take a Sociology major. I always looked forward to her classes because she's really funny, and uses a lot of examples from her own life. It was a little inconvenient that she doesn't use blackboard, but I got over it. It's very important that you attend every lecture.

Fiona is very strict on deadlines, shes gives a free 25% for showing up to class and a couple easy written assignments, two midterms also worth 25, and a essay final.

Charismatic and witty. Will have the class' full attention from the moment she walks in the door without speaking. Has a lot of life experience that she will share (and test on, beware). Not afraid to voice strong opinions, but interesting all the same. Take notes and attend lectures and you should be fine for exams.

I went into this class thinking that I was going to absolutely hate it, especially since the class I was taking was only 20 days long. However, Fiona was a wonderful prof and you could tell that she cares a lot about her students. She brought her dog to every class to make us feel more comfortable and always gave simple, yet in depth, explanations

I was really nervous about taking a class with Fiona, but she was awesome! It was a summer course, so it was a bit more intense than normal, but as long as you put in effort you'll do really well!

There is no way to adequately describe how amazing Dr. Angus is at what she does. She is honest, strong, and never sugar coats anything. If you want the truth take her classes. Her tests are fair, she provides study guides, and she always gets tests back the next class. She is a very wonderful professor and I hope to take many of her classes.

Not sure why everybody has commented about Fiona calling people out for looking at phones and laptops? I went to every class for three months straight and had my phone in front of me all the time, and nothing ever happened. She never called out anyone for being on their lap top either. Don't let that discourage you from taking one of her classes!

Loved her and loved her class. She is not rude at all and I am glad she calls students out for being on their phones. It's inconsiderate when someone is talking /lecturing to be glued to your phone and I wish more profs did it. She is a fair marker and the class was really interesting. Amazing lecturer, keeps class interesting and she's super laid back. Makes the classroom feel safe so you aren't intimidated to speak. My first 400 level soc class and I was pretty intimidated but she made me feel at home. Tough grader, can be a little unsympathetic at times but always willing to help and provide feedback for the 20 page paper

Sure, she's not the nicest prof, but that's not her job. She makes it SO EASY to do well in her classes. I took 361 and 301 with her and got an A in both. She goes through the textbook page by page before every exam and tells you exactly what you need to know and there aren't any papers. Only downside is she takes attendance and it counts for 10%.g

Fiona is a very excellent lecturer, she does not post notes so it is important to go to class, attendance is "mandatory" if you want the 10%. Highly suggest going to the review classes as she outlines exactly what she is going to test for in the textbook. It is good to have a sense of humour for this class and not to take things to seriously.

Great professor. I loved every moment of this class. Fiona shares personal experiences that fit along with the lectures and textbook. She is very outspoken, blunt, and a feminist. Attendance is worth 10%. There are two exams and a final worth 30%. The exams are mostly from sections of the textbook and a few questions from her personal life.

yes, she does takes attendance, she will ask you to leave the class-room if you are not paying attention (its a learning environment); she does ask you questions about her personal life, but this is a sociology class and we are learning about the conflicts of society and Fiona's life is enlighten with that type of examples. I RECOMMEND HER 100%

I loved Dr. Angus class! Favourite prof from my first semester. Go to class, take good notes about EVERYTHING, and youll get an easy A. Personal anecdotes are interesting and relevant. Both midterms are multiple choice and super easy, and final is an essay. Dont talk in class and dont be on your phone. Easy peasy!

I took her for two soci classes and enjoyed both. She has a detailed review class for the midterms (2) and the final is an essay (tough grader for essays). Your attendance is 10% of your grade and she doesn't allow cell phones in class but if you're someone that is there to learn this shouldn't be an issue. She's blunt but not rude to students.

Fiona is honestly a wonderful professor. She knows her stuff and ultimately cares about the course material she teaches. She does take attendance every class which contributes to a participation mark and really encourages group discussion. Her exams are a mixture of M/C and Essay; reading the textbook is a must. Though Fiona may not be everybody's cup of tea, she does care about her students and wants them to succeed. She will not hand things to you on a silver platter. You need to work for it. She does have an attendance grade. But if you go to class, pay attention, and read the textbook you'll do very well in the class.

Its a great intro class and helped me less nervous about my first year at University. She is clear and tells you what she needs and wants from you. If you follow what she says youll pass with a good grade. Everything is outlined there are no unexpected quizzes. Try to read the textbook but her lectures include a lot of information not in the book

Fiona is an amazing sociology teacher. The assignments are easy and as long as you follow the guidelines you will get 100%. Also, she prepares students for midterm & finals effectively, since she goes through the textbook and tells students exactly what will be on the test. Fiona was an overall good professor. It is true, she doesn't tolerate talking or phone usage during her lectures, nor does she post anything to blackboard. One of my favourite profs so far. She is very clear about what you need to know and do to pass. The class is very lecture heavy and there is a mark for coming to class. She answers emails quickly and is always willing to help if you have questions. I did not at all find her to be disrespectful like other reviews say, although she is strict.

Honestly don't understand how people don't like Fiona. She gives students every chance to succeed, giving detailed reviews before exams and for every assignment, she says straight out send me emails come to my office hours for help. Her lectures are hilarious and she makes the class so fun.

Yes, her lectures are on a personal level and base them in the exams but I find her stories hilarious and easy to remember as long as you attend her lectures. She might come off as a snob, straight to the point and doesn't tolerate phones and talking but I think her class is an easy A, just go along with her and do the homework and readings.

Easy marker and exams were base on her personal experiences which are quite interesting and easy to remember. She tells you what pages and vocabs we need to read/know for the exams in the textbook which were helpful and actually in the exam. She's strict when it comes to attendance and due hw, no phones and talking during lectures, tho.
