Prof. Kay really knows how to teach. Her lecture style is very clear and organized. She's friendly and approachable.

Best teacher ever. Seriously she has a gift for teaching. Most profs could care less, she goes the extra mile and it is wonderful. Take all of her classes!

great prof!! i didn't want to take research methods AT ALL, but it ended up being one of my favourite courses (go figure) because of her! she's funny, entertaining and seems really keen to help her students understand the material :)

Boring Class! Only teaches you statistics. Where is the critical analysis and questioning the status quo that is soo...important in Sociology.

She tells stories about her shenanigans as a kid. Social research is made not only bearable but FUN!

Dr. Kay was a good professor, however the material was hard, not very interesting and her tests were difficult with no real warning. If she had of warned us before hand that, for example, the mid-term would be extremely specific, I think the average would not have been 57%! She is funny though, and geniunely cared about the low average.

While Dr.Kay is hysterical in a very tongue-in-cheek way, I totally hate sociology. Thank GOD it's not my major. I hate classes where only God and Jesus can get over an 85% on an essay. As a prof and a person, she's great, but this course sucked HARD.

Dr. Kay's lectures are clear, well organized and focused. She can be fun, cracking jokes, and is strict but fair - do the work, ask questions, and you will get a good grade. People complain about how hard her exams are and that she has high standards. Well, of course - the course is challenging, but that's what tertiary education is meant to be.

Thorough, clear, and an engaging lecturer. Kay is an excellent social scientist as well as an excellent teacher. Her anecdotes and examples in class are extremely helpful in understanding concepts. Tests are difficult, but she offers help in many different ways and genuinely cares about students.

Professor Kay is a wonderful woman, clear lectures, many examples and interesting anecdotes. She can hold a class's attention at 8:30 am. Test questions have extremly confusing wording making the course much more difficult than it should be.

Prof. Kay is a really amazing instructor. I came into this course reluctant (and with a bad attitude) and it turned out to be one of my favourite courses. Overall, an amazing course and amazing prof. Probably my favourite course at Queen's so far. Kay really is a phenomenal prof! Assignments were fair and reasonable. Course covers material that is both relevant and interesting. Seminars encouraged discussion and discussion questions hold you accountable to readings. She makes you work for your grade.

Dr. Kay keeps the course lively and interesting. I don't know how she does it but we all just talk and it holds my interest. Anecdotes and jokes made discussion fun. I enjoyed this course and Dr. Kay is one of the best profs I've had.

This course was the most practical and useful in my graduate degree. Each class and assignment prepared us for the upcoming essay. Small reports throughout the year leading up to our main proposal was an excellent way to give us feedback and to thoroughly prepare our projects. I refined my work a lot and the final project was more manageable.

I took SOCY210 with her 2 years ago. I loved the course. She's a fabulous teacher. I realized this more as I progressed through university. She's the best prof I had. Wish I'd taken another course from her after methods.

Professor Kay is a wonderful teacher who really tries to explain material in a way that is easy to comprehend. She always kept in mind that the topics covered in the class were often new concepts to the students, and she was empathetic and understood when someone did not get a concept. I signed up for another of her classes this year.

This class had more direction than my other 400 level classes. Honestly I think I learned more in this class than all my other 400 courses combined. It if were earlier in the year I would have nominated Dr. Kay for prof of the year!

Dr. Kay has been my favourite professor at Queen's for all of my studies. I chose her as my thesis supervisor because she is incredibly passionate about her students, and their success. Her courses are built to challenge your thinking and attendance would be beneficial. I really recommend Dr. Kay for students looking to pursue graduate level.

I took SOCY305 and 389 with Dr. Kay this term. In-class writing assignments keep you on pace (She drops your lowest 4 scores so it's easy to do well). She polled the class and designed a study guide tailored to our needs. When Covid hit and campus closed she posted lectures, slides and inspiration quotes within days to help. Exams fair/flexible.

Prof. K. is knowledgeable, engaging and goes the extra mile to help her students succeed. She gives useful feedback and quickly on assignments. Keeps class fully engaged in lectures and made transition to remote classes (Covid19) seamless. I felt she cared about us. Take home exam plenty choice.

Not only are Professor Kay's courses entertaining and engaging, but I feel I actually learn the material and retain the info from her classes due to her effective teaching style and applicable readings. I have LOVED this class and material is truly applicable to my own life and future!

Dr. Kay is an amazing professor. She is my favorite one so far at university. Content is interesting and I like the one she teaches. In-class assignments make me feel as though I'm coming to class for a reason as well as way she teaches. She does not just read off slides like many other professors.

Prof Kay is super caring and made learning online super approachable. You can tell she truly wants her students to do well. However, the content is heavily focused on the textbook readings.

The content was a little hard for me just because research topics are not my strong suit, but having a teacher who cares so much makes it so much better! I can tell she put a lot of time into making online learning as manageable as possible. She produced high quality PPTs, videos and PDF outlines. Great experience.

The way this course has been structured in the transition to remote learning has been really well done. In comparison to my other courses, this one was easiest to follow and I don't get overwhelmed and then discouraged. I would love it if other professors and departments follow suit in this teaching style!

Quizzes with multiple attempts and having one every week helped me to understand course content and also gave feeling of control over my grades even if I struggled on an assignment. Weekly PDF outlines helped keep me on track and not lose components. Clear lectures and amazing resources onQ. Prof drops lowest 2 grades. Fantastic teacher!

I liked the variety of learning materials provided between lectures, textbook, quizzes and assignments. I felt I was learning a lot but could easily apply it. One of my favorite profs this semester. Dr. Kaye creates a very open learning environment. This was my favorite online course, the material was well laid out but not overwhelming. I appreciated that Kaye takes time to address all students' questions. Course taught very well. My grades improved with biweekly assignments. I really enjoyed this course!!

I have had Dr. Kay for SOCY 389 and SOCY 210 and she is probably one of the best professors I have had throughout my time at Queen's. She is a tough grader at times, and will admit it herself. But she provides excellent feedback and is always available to chat or help you out in any way she can. I would recommend her classes to anyone!

I found Dr. Kay to be a bit of a tough marker, however, she gives students the opportunity to boost their marks through participation in various ways. I would recommend taking any one of the courses she teaches, but it is not an 'easy A', you have to do the readings and go to lecture but if you do that, you will succeed. Overall, great professor.

I love Dr. Kay- this is actually my fourth time being in her classes! She is very kind and easy to speak to. Her lecturing material is very interesting/detailed, although this is a seminar class so it ran differently from typical lectures. Could be a difficult marker to some but fair. Be aware this class has a heavy paper (20pgs) and an exam!
