Needs a major attitude adjustment. He's a great instructor, but needs to work on his social skills. I would not recommend him if you're looking for an instructor with good teaching skills as well as people skills.
He was very confused most of the time, he was late, unorganized and his test were confusing and hard. He did very little to help, however his confusion made the class so hilarious and fun, some people should not be prof. or teachers and he is one of them

very rude teacher, thought he was sorta prejudice. the whole class period he rewrites whats in the book on the board, he makes tons of errors and is very boring, he is rude and stuck up and has a lot of work needed to be done b4 he could teach at college
Not a well put together prof. He doesn't seem like he knows what he is doing, feels like you have a sub all the time. He does play favorites, racisit might be a little extreme. Take another prof if you want to actually learn for higher math classes.
Just plain sucky. Acts surprised when females answer questions but rarely calls on males. Makes rude comments on class's intelligence. Tries as hard as possible to make himself look smarter than you.
VERY HARD. Does not know how to teach. I took his class and there was 35 students in the beginning. Before the withdrawal deadline, there was only 15 students left. It must mean something. Not helpful. Not organized. Pretends to be smart. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

This teacher isnt mean nor rude in my estimation, however he is very hard. This class went at a very fast pace, and required a very indepth knowledge of the subject to pass. Again this was an extremely hard class. Take that for what its worth.
This one is a NO-NO. Doesn't go over homework, test, questions, nothing. He writes everything from the book on the board & then he stands infront of it. He is VERY,VERY HARD. and if you had to take a Math & he was the last teacher left, DON'T.

The only class I had an 85 with two tests left and made a C at the end. When confronted he told me I did bad on a test and never told me any grades. Tests are not graded fair. Things will be marked off your paper and not others. He is very unorganized.

He really isn't clear at all in his lessons. It's like when he does a problem you see how he's working the problem out but when you get home it's like you forget. His teaching layout is very bad. He doesn't explain why he's working the problem out a certain way.
how did this guy get a dr. degree? he is very cocky and great at ridiculing students. Uses very poor grammar. In stats, he only uses the text for support-he knows nothing about the subject...he doesn't give good examples-only what is in the book. To say the least, he is lost and unorganized.

Seems to hate being asked questions & seems to feel that if you don't understand something, you're just not trying. Mocked several students (one for being late, one for his cell ringing in class) in a way that seemed mean instead of like a gentle reprimand. Makes you wait FOREVER for test results.
Pretty much...he sucked. Awful professor. Got a B but only because his tests were multiple choice. Don't take him. He hates girls and even made one cry. Will pick on people if they don't understand. Thinks he's really smart and funny, but he's not!

Great at explaining what things mean, but only problem when he did; he would use math terms most who didn't have a doctorine would not know. (you will learn some good terms from him though) Was very impersonal, seemed too busy with his other classes. No one on one attention, when only eight students.

Not only is he a bad teacher but a bad Person. I asked him a question one time, he didnt answer it he just said "well thats rather elementary". he would come into class 10 mins late and say we were there to early then take the clock off the wall and turn it back 10 mins. I have a 3.7 GPA i got a 650 in math on my SATs and i got a D in the class
He is one of those teachers who could be very helpful and actually teach his students....if he wanted to. He gives vauge study guides (just telling you in words what you need to know...no chapter numbers or examples). Tests are semi hard. The lab grade is like 30% of your final grade, which really helps.

Despite these bad reviews he speaks english fine and his notes are step by step to illustrate proper procedure. If you are willing to put effort into a college course (which all college students are expected to) you will do fine. I recieved A's in both of his classes. If college work is too hard for you, maybe you should have stopped at highschool.
Fitzroy Farquharson is living proof that having a PH.D does not make you a good teacher. He is rude, condescending and treats you like you are stupid if you don't understand a concept. He spends class time preaching to the blackboard instead of interacting with his students.He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had.
If you are not good at math REALLY do not take this teacher he is not helpful at all nor does he want to help THe lab teacher was more helpful then him He beleives that you should already now everything! I would never take him or tell anyone else to take him! HE IS AWFUL! Drop the class if you already register for him. I passed but it was hard!

I took the online course this fall and ended up withdrawing right before the deadline. He shouldn't be allowed to teach period. I chatted with him online to get help and he didn't understand me at all. I don't think that he understands English very well. You won't learn a thing in this class. Stay away!!!!!!

I was a math lover until I got to the class. I found out that he talks too much about his divorce and personal life in class. He also expects you to know what he is teaching before the lecture and he treats his students as if they are all in the same intellectual level. I withdrew because I dont like to waste time talking about his problems!
This teacher is alright. I had to wait until I got home to go over all of the information in the book and kind of teach myself though. He didn't like to do alot of explaining and most of his notes came straight from the book.
He is a total joke. The class itself really isn't that difficult if you know what you're doing, but Mr. Farquharson is an obnoxious ****. Asking for help is useless and his teaching skills are pathetic. If you don't already have a handle on algebra coming into this class, then don't take him. i wish this professor on anyone. i dont really understand how he is a professor in the first place. after he stops talking about himself he starts to teach in another language. if your not good in math, DO NOT TAKE HIM! he confuses the whole class in between making constant math errors, and not realizing it.
He has some interesting ways of teaching, always takes up the entire class even if he has to start a new section the tests are ridiculous even if you know what your doing he puts dificult questions that were never seen in homework I guarantee if you arent very good at math youll fail i knew the material and am passing with a C

Professor Farquharson is extremely arrogant in his teaching style. He criticizes the book as if he knew better than the people who formulated it. His mistakes on the board shows that he is not concentrated in class or merely doesn't know what he is doing... His tests are not comparable to the class... run aways from him!!!
There is no doubt that he is very intellegent. The sad part is that he unable to take that and relate to students on their level. His classes and homework are computer centered rather than book. He lacks humility. F^2's mentality is that if you do not know the material then you deserve to be stupid.

As the person before me, I too, dropped the class. The book itself was teaching me more than him. He thought everything was "amazing" and was always making mistakes to his own problems. Waste of time.
So far i think he is fun and great although if you don't have a good math background consider yourself to study harder.
Absolutely horrible. I come home every evening stressed because of him. He thinks he's reviewing everything and that because HE has been taught this before, you should have, too. Horribly rude, makes major errors on the board, does not know what he's talking about. Used to be a 4.0 student, considering math as a major. I got a 33% on his last test.

I am a straight A student. At least, I was until I took this class. The professor was very belittling and I felt like a complete dumbass. I was constantly stressed out. I studied for hours every day and barely squeaked by with a C. This professor is arrogant and makes you feel ignorant for asking questions,which he never gives a straight answer to.

If you're going into the class to become successful and actually learn the material then he is the teacher for you. Don't expect an easy A, expect work and earn it. I realized this midway through the semester and it cost me. I ended up with a C in the class. I became much more dedicated towards the end of the semester and got A's, it's possible.
I attempted this class last fall and I withdrew about a month into it. This Professor does not care weather you pass or fail. He does not answer questions at all and will not help you. He is arrogant and pompous I would not recommend taking him at all...
Do NOT take his online class. First, he makes you buy some stupid mathlab garbage component that costs 90 dollars for only a code! and it is confusing, plus there is ZERO interaction with students except through SKYPE. Yeah-like i'm gonna chat with you on skype, Farquharson! LOL
He's a good teacher but he goes really fast when explaining an exercise. He tells lots of personal stories, which are pointless. He gives lots of examples and you learn from them. you don't get to use the book at all, so dont buy it. All of the hws,there only 4 test and u must pass 3 of them in order to pass the course
Literally I had to star all over by my self, No joke. In the middle of the term I went over everything cover in class, and I realized that I had not learned anything. If you want to learn math, do yourself and favor and take this class with another professor; this guy is good to make people hate math.
I completely agreed with his philosophy, that school is what you make of it and you are responsible for your education. However, I do not agree with his methods. He requires you to do virtually every problem in the book, and then expects you to work the problems in the way he teaches them, and faults you for using the format explained in the book
You have to take good notes if you want to pass, they will be your life savor. He goes over things fast and he'll get off track. He has a lot of take home quizzes and a lot of hw which he does look over so you can't copy from back of book. Tests were hard and he would be rude when people did poorly. He will call on people even if you don't kow it.
I had 3 problems with this class: 1) I paid over 100 dollars for a book we never used. 2) I've never done homework online before and I hate it! 3) I think he should give more classwork to help us absorb the content. Other than that, I think he's a good professor; he breaks down the steps very nicely, and his tests are bearable. But Summer Term = No
He knows what he is talking about and is very passionate about math! I am not someone who understands math very easy so it was hard to keep up. TAKE NOTES and I suggest to buy the book. It was VERY helpful when it came time to study for the final. Homework is a good practice mechanism. I passed but with A LOT of effort.
Professor is awesome. He is very clear and gives you very good notes. Homework is hard and book is not really helpful, but there is a cd in the math lab and that thing was my bff for a summer B. If you want to get a good grade in this class - you will. Stop blaming the professor. It is not an easy class!
OMG. That is all. Nah, but this clas is ridiculous. He spends more time gloating about his contributions to math, then teaching. When he does teach, he makes so many mistakes. The tests are the worst part. We usually don't do application problems in class, bu they always show up on the tests. HW is online and is about 100-150 questions per chapter.
He knows what he's talking about and he loves math WAY too much. But he runs through things so fast and if you ask a question he looks at you if youre stupid because you dont understand it like he does. He doesnt take things step by step, he just does the problem on the board and expects you to understand it. I have to teach myself
He's alright. He can be difficult to understand as he sometimes assumes you know things and he doesn't welcome questions all too much. All the homework is online with about 30 questions per section, although some questions have multiple parts. He's good if you have a strong understanding of math, otherwise I wouldn't take him.
I took him for Intermediate Algebra some years back, and from what i've read here it seems like he hasn't changed. He has a self-centered way to himself and clearly expresses it during his lectures. I would not like anyone to go through this class unless you can study from the book or with friends. If able, run far far away. Not Recommendable~

Not the greatest professor, I had him for precalc. The class was not hard at all, There was not one thing that I didn't understand, he is just terrible at giving tests so i always scored poorly, they are simple but he is not specific with what he wants in the answer so its easy to mess up. He's very fair. Gives you notes, study guides with the exact question based on his exams. Homework is a good way to boost your grade and online only. FINAL = 20 questions. Drops lowest test grade and replaces with FINAL exam. He's funny. Show him effort and he might get you those few point u need to pass. It's a math class so u need to study.
Worst professor i've ever had! So hard, he doenst ever explain anything clearly. He considers himself a genius and brags about it. His class is very difficult. i would not recommend to anyone. He uses powerpoints and if you didnt get something and ask to go back he says no and that they are online. Give A LOT OF HOMEWORK TOO!
Teaches directly out of the book and generic powerpoints. Makes minimal effort to help students understand the material. His ego overshadows his ability to admit his own mistakes (which are embarrassingly frequent). The exams are difficult, but you are provided study guides which outline each question in detail. Don't expect help from him, though.
This teacher... Something else. His ego overrides his ability to teach. He is very discouraging, but ignore that and you'll do great in the class. He may use the powerpoint, but he works everything out. Take notes and you'll do well on the test. Nothing is a surprise in his class. You don't need a book, just access to the online website.
Terrible teach for online course. He never answered my questions directly - always referred me to the Syllabus. Took him days to reply to emails. He ignored one of them completely. I DO NOT recommend him for an online course. I don't know how he is in person, but I'd rather not find out. I don't care to. good luck to future online students.
He has a good personality, provide study guide, helpful than I needed, no book required, give extra credits, homework only minimum for examps which is 20% from your grade, this will raise your grade a lot and help to prepare for exams.
This professor gives you lots of homework but never goes over it. His test reviews are nothing but words with no examples. I am really good at math but I struggled the entire semester. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR UNLESS YOU LOVE TO STRESS OUT ABOUT YOUR GRADES.
The professor is a nice guy, but awful at teaching. He gives minimal examples, speeds through his lessons and often solves problems incorrectly which makes the concepts more confusing. All homework is done through CourseCompass. He gives "study guides" for tests that aren't helpful, but not one for the final. Seriously, find a different professor.

By far the WORSE professor I've ever had. On top of that I'm not the best at math this professor made it impossible to pass. Tons of homework and his tests are extremely difficult. He is disinterested in helping his students and you'll be better off with a different professor. Valencia has plenty of other professors who are way better than this guy
Do NOT take the flex class online if you work full time and/or a parent!!! BIGGEST mistake of my academic plan so far! A LOT of homework, Quizzes every other day (including weekends), and 1 test per week. On a positive note, he makes himself available to help, gives you access to a lot of resources, and is very honest.
Took flex class in the summer and yes there is a lot of work. Hw and quizzes every other day and exam weekly. Only midterm & final is in testing center, rest of exams are online. As long as you do the hw and follow examples from CourseCompass/MyMathLab you'll be fine on quizzes and test. If you work a lot or are a parent I would suggest full term.
Dr. Farquharson (Far-ku-son) is an outstanding professor; he explains the material if you do not understand it, goes by PowerPoints, sometimes messes up variables in equations, takes attendance every day, and has all of the homework posted at the beginning of the semester. Only the code for "MyMathLab" is needed to access the homework, no book.
Not sure how he is in the classroom, but online is not worth it. The class is 100% self taught. This isn't bad, but if you like feedback, don't take this course. The system grades home well, quizzes and tests. When I tried to get help on assignments he never answered. So communication is terrible as well.
If you aren't particularly great at math or paying attention then you should probably get out while you can. He goes very fast and you are expected to go along with it. He often gets off track and tells pointless stories. All the homework is online and it's busy work. The tests are harder than what he teaches in class. Don't take him.
If you aren't good at math he is absolutely the wrong professor to take. He hardly explains anything and if anything he just uses a basic powerpoint. I had countless emails that were not responded to and at the end of the day i highly doubt he cares if you even pass. If you enjoy teaching yourself this is the class for you.
I would not recommend this professor. He doesn't teach, so the entire class is self taught (online). I emailed him a few times for help on assignments and he never responded. He uses my lab and mastering and likes to lower grades on the last day of the semester. Don't take him unless you want high blood pressure.
Prof. responded to many emails thoroughly. He didn't cover enough material for the online course. It was mostly MyMathLab. PreCalc questions are long and stressful to take online. VERY STRICT policies (Had to contact school because he wouldn't give test extension due to funeral!)

Has a very roundabout way of explaining things which confuses a lot of people. Tries to make you guess his next words and flaunts his "superior knowledge" to make you think he's better than you. You have to show up and have a graphing calculator or you'll fail. If you can teach yourself with the hw you'll be fine; easy enough without his "help."
Don't take this teacher, especially if you have a difficult time with math. He is arrogant, VERY unclear, and spent a lot of time erasing what he just wrote and explained because he messed up, he gets confused himself, and the students often had to call him out on mistakes that he'd made while instructing how to do the problems.

I took the class online but the instructional videos that he posts are very user friendly and easy to follow. If you have any questions he has a Skype tutoring sessions and he turns emails within 24 hours.
When I can to college from high school I was kinda lost, expecially with math. I took this professor as a chance because i though he was going to be like some of the review, but he really change my life. I am so glad I took his class. I really can say I learned math.

I took this course online. Farquharson did not help me once as far as learning goes. I had to learn everything from youtube videos. I ended this class with an 89.6, and he still gave me a B for the class. I sent him an email and I did not get a response. I don't get the feeling he cares how his students do and I would not take this professor again.

This professor gave me a Christmas miracle! After the final, I had a 67% and had emailed him asking if there was any way to boost up my grade to a C. Checked my email every day for a week and no reply. Checked my transcript tonight and ended up with a C! Take this class, he's very understanding.

Took onsite Fall 2014. He was confusing, erased entire section on board bec. he forgot a segment. Expresses concern for students that suck at math. Wants to help. Mymathlab hw every week(15- 30 Q's). Held 4 study sessions during semester to help us pass each upcoming test. posts now show he has improved and is more willing to help his students

Even though the homework load maybe a lot he is very accessible outside of class to ask any questions pertaining to the work and he will assist you within 24 hours of your text or email. The most caring Professor I have ever had. He gives everyone his number so you can text him and gets back to you in a matter of minutes. Hes always willing to help and answer questions, reset due dates, and even just to talk. He does alot of examples which makes it so easy to learn. Hes also funny and good looking.
I took him online. Test, quizzes, and homework are done through Pearsons math website. Be sure to study for the midterm and final because they look nothing like the assignments on the homework or quizzes. The professor is a really nice guy but I feel as if his teaching skills could be sharpened up a bit. If he were to engage the class a bit more and call on people and force the learning I think it would be more successful. We had a substitute who called on the classmates to go up on the board and that was the first time I saw the class not bored.
Professor Farquharson is very passionate about his math and wants to make sure everyone understands what they are doing. All he asks is that you complete your math lab assignments (homework for each lesson, quiz every few sections, and 4 tests total). Very easy to pass (mathway!) and if you miss a quiz and ask him to reopen it he will say yes.
If you miss more than three classes he drops you. Classes are all notes and he uses different colors so have maybe 5 different colored writing utensils. Tests online are easy if you do the homework and practice/take notes on them! Tests are literally the homework just different numbers are used. I did two tests in class and one was the final.

If I could rate him a 0, I would. If you struggle with math like I do, this prof will be a bad decision for you. He often makes mistakes and backtracks and spends more time changing marker colors than actually teaching. And tests are harder than what he actually "teaches", which is only the bare minimum. Needles to say, I hated every minute.

Professor Farquharson is an amazing professor. I am not the best at math but his teaching style made sense to me and he was willing to work with his students and break down whatever he needed to. His grading is fair. The only way you don't pass his class is if you don't apply yourself. If you do all the work he assigns and participate, you'll pass.

This professor is AMAZING. He does color code a lot, but it's good so you wont get lost. The tests and quizzes are exactly like the homework. I highly suggest to not skip class because he explains everything way better than math lab or the textbook. Apply yourself and do the work. It's not hard to get an A.
Honestly, professor Farquharson was all over the place the entire semester. He would constantly backtrack when writing the problems on the board and took entirely too long to make everything look perfect. He over explains things that don't really matter and is confused by his own questions. If I could have chosen another professor, I would.

The material wouldnt have been as difficult if he had taught it keeping in mind he was teaching STUDENTS new to this subject. He taught it in a way he personally found made sense. He made COUNTLESS mistakes in every lecture and never noticed unless someone pointed it out and rushed through everything because he talks too much at the start.
Holy cow this class was hard to take online in a flex time period. Dr. Farquharson makes himself available to his online students yet if you don't know the material, you most likely will not get it. Everything is on MyMathLab. Exams are long and more challenging than the homework. Good luck.
Prof Farquharson is a good guy. His teaching style isn't the best that will have you saying "wow he is amazing!", but it also is plenty good enough to learn what you need to learn. Overall he is by no means a bad choice if your other options for math professors are bad, he will get the job done.

I took his online class. Everything is online, even exams. He was always available and responded quickly to my questions. Its your typical math class with a good amount of homework. He provides a lot of resources for you to succeed in his class. If you do well in online classes take him!
College algebra is really hard so prepare to work hard no matter what. Dr. F gives you videos and powerpoints for each chapter and there are a lot of homework assignments, about 9 quizzes, and 4 tests. I took him spring 2020 and I finished with an A but it took a lot of studying and help videos. If you need an interactive teacher take someone else.
I took this online class and went at my own pace. you do not require zoom meetings. the class is based on quite a few assignments, 10 quizzes and 5 tests. It is very easy to end with an A. He helps with videos, but the truth is a ghost teacher, you do everything alone. answer the emails quickly. He dont use honorlock for tests or quizzes.
You use Mathlab for the assignments and he provides you with educational videos for each section and you just learn everything from there. The assignments are cake, quizzes are cake and are only 8 questions long with 3 total chances. Entire class is cake but requires a lot of your time.
He doesn't use Honorlock and uses Pearson. You read the book, use homework to practice, then take a test/quiz. He's very accessible over email and opened all missed assignm. He even corrected my Midterm when I pointed out formatting errors. As long as you contact him he will always help/give you makeup opportunities. It's a DIY class but EASY.
Ok, so my math lab not being a tab that's easily accessible was kinda Hell but I got use to it. Then like the HWS and quizzes are like not difficult but like they all become locked. All the classes online it's through MyMathLab, all the homework, quizzes, and exam (i take this class online), it's a little bit hard for some of the homework but you have unlimited times to do it, and this professor doesn't use honor lock, but the quizzes are hard and test too but if you do the homework its easy
Let me just say taking this class was a mistake. All the work is on MyMathLab so you can try on the homework as much as you want but most questions have 5-10 parts. Every time I would e-mail him he would be rude and snappy. He doesn't have the MathLab and canvas linked together so you have to wait for your final grade until the end. DO NOT TAKE!
The class is entirely on MyMathLab which isn't the biggest deal if it was at least somewhat organized. His entire assignment section's organization is awful at best and emailing him will earn you a passive-aggressive reply that could range from 1 to 10 words in total. If you prefer actually learning, avoid him if possible as you'll learn nothing.
Terrible teacher but good thing is he totally useless and teaches you absolutely nothing. Emails replies are arrogant and condescending. Everything is on mymath lab and you learn everything yourself. Fitzroy Farquharson was the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't respond to emails, he doesn't pick up the phone. He doesn't teach at all, meaning that you have to teach yourself. The homework assignments are long and time-consuming, and grades are carried by the quizzes and tests. I would not recommend this professor.
I do not know why all these ratings are so low on this professor, he was so easy replies to ALL emails in a timely fashion and his work is super easy, no extra work all work is on Mymathlab, and he requires 2hrs a day on homework and doesn't use honorlock or proctored exams. the midterm and final were super easy. all these reviews are lies.
Farquharson's class is a bit DIY, but with some effort it's manageable. The homework and tests can be challenging, but unstuckstudy ai was a lifesaver for exam prep. Overall, a decent option if you're willing to put in the work.
Entire class is done by yourself and assignments are manageable. Does provide many video lectures for each lesson.
I am writing about my experience as an online student. The lecture videos do not come from him; They are from Pearson, My Lab Math, which your entire course will consist of, and you will have to purchase. Some videos are not even available, so you will essentially have to teach yourself. He does not provide any additional videos.
Dr. Fitzroy Farquharson was my first math teacher I took when doing dual-enrollment and altogether he wasn't that bad. I never did two assignments (one midterm, one quiz) and they never went on my final grade. The major downside is that I had to seek out other resources to teach me the material I should've been learning in his class.
Took his course online and all of his work is on pearson, which made it difficult to keep up with deadlines for assignments. He was nice enough to give me and extension on a test I missed. Overall, he's great.
Coming from someone who is not the greatest in math this class was quite easy. Everything is done through MyMath Lab. The professor gives unlimited attempts on homework, 2 attempts on quizzes/ tests and the best part is no honorlock. He opens all assignments on day 1 so you can complete this class at your own pace.
If you want a teacher without Honorlock or a lockdown browser, this is the one for YOU. He gives weekly quizzes and homework, but the downside is that grades aren't on Canvas- they're only on Pearson. I ended up with a B because I couldn't track deadlines on Canvas. Hopefully, he fixes this by the time you take the course!
He is overall a very nice professor. He's strict about attendance but also does not take roll call on some days. He does not care at all if you're late. He has slides prepared everyday and he lectures diligently. He teaches well and knows his stuff. He's also humorous and can't stop mentioning calculus. Overall, would recommend but not an easy A.
