I knew the subject and still failed! Her test questions are 10 times harder than anything you do in class!

She is very very cute, too bad she is married. WOW.... For a math nerd, she is hot. Take her and you will do well. She explains like no other. She is by no means easy, but she explains down to your lever. She is great..!!!
Dr. Newberger is indeed hot for a math teacher. The key in doing well is going to her office hours and getting an A on the final exam. I did poorly at first until I asked help from her. You have to work in her class, but overall take newberger she is gre
Okay if you fail two of your exams do not worry. Homework will always make it up and if you do well in your final you will get an A. But she is hard, but good teacher and super helpful NewBerger good. TAKE HER =)
Offers help! Wants you to pass.
really easy and relaxed about late homework.
she is one of the best math teacher that I've taken so far. She is easy to talk to and is willing to help you out if u just go to see her in the office. Take her and u will do well.
She is a very effective teacher, knows her stuff and will help anyone with a question, but at times she may give away more information than is necessary. I learned a great deal from her and she made me more interested in topology than I ever was. One problem though. She's too hot to be a professor.
Great personality! Personality goes a long way.

Wonderful teacher. She actually stops/slows down to help people who are lost during the lecture, which I imagine is almost everyone, but who are too scared to ask (I don't consider myself slow, but I do need help). She checks homework but weighs it very lightly compared to tests and progress. Definitely recommended!
She's teaches students how to think through calculus. It is apparent her goal is to have every student understand everything she teaches. If you're stuck, you can email her, and in no time she has a useful suggestion. Take her classes!
At the start of the semester lectures were very clear and then less understandable.Test ?'s relate to hw and have to write definitions.Study guide for test not helpful.Biggest flaw would be not enough office hrs.She seemed to focus only on her calculus students.Always took long time to grade hw.Can rewrite hw but that takestime fro doing current hw
Don't fall for her stupid contingency plan for students not doing so well. In her favor I can say she was readily available for help, yet her hand graded homework was so convoluted; it's damn near incomprehensible. She feels the need to over explain, which normally leads to student confusion. Less is more, less is more..Definitely the case for Flo.
Ditto the comment below. Over-explains to the point of confusion. Grades inconsistently (e.g. identical homework, differerent grades; identical exam answers, different scores.) One would do best to avoid this creature.
BEWARE! She is a very nice person and a good teacher. BUUUUT....she makes homework so that it can hurt your grade if you don't get 100% on each assignment! The only reason that I pulled off an A is because she had to lower the percentages so that an 87% is considered an A. she grades on correctness..so if you suck at hw and most do, don't take her
OK, this is the 3rd time now i've taken Math 115, the class kills me its so hard. HOWEVER, Florence is the best professor i've had in this class. She takes time to explain everything, is readily available for help/extensions, doesn't overuse the textbook. If you are good at calculus, don't take her for this class. If you find it hard, take her.
Hard material but an extremely helpful teacher. She walks you through each lesson and makes sure every student knows the material while she is teaching it. 3 tests and a cumulative final. Hand-graded HW and Online HW assigned (highly suggest doing both! weighted grade) Great teacher
She talks to much on one subject and it might not even be on the test and never on the homework. When you do the homework its on the same subject she taught in class but has entirely new concepts. She gives really pointless Excel and writing assignments that don't relate. She is a really nice person but I would not recommend her as a teacher.
She may seem like she has ADD but she really is passionate about math. Very helpful and understanding if you are sick. Will let you turn in late work. The class was overall pretty easy with one group project, online hw, and excel assignments. Just be prepared to have some patience with her because sometimes she is ALL over the place!
She is nice, I do agree with that, and she is approachable, but her teaching methods are difficult to comprehend. Many of the students had to correct her results. She is an ok professor.
I had not taken math in over 3 years before taking her calculus class. She managed to make me enjoy calculus. She answers all questions and is very thorough when explaining the material. My test scored got better as the semester progressed, which speaks wonders about her teaching. If math is not your strong suit, definitely should take her.
Decent lecturer? However, class structure is poor due to the ALEXS assessment which takes an incredibly long time and covers pre-Bus Calc math!!! Also, the Activity section is pointless. She grades the tests very tight by taking points off even though it?s clear that you understand the concepts/calculations. Take the class at Community College!!!
Seems to be trying to make a name for herself at the student's expense: discussed her recent re-design for the class, but it's setup to inconvience the student. Alexs work is not necessary, and a student can't learn in the ACT section becasue we are expected to work on the problems ourselves. HW is due too early. Tests are long and graded too hard.
I had no problem passing this class. I got good scores on my three midterm exams (which accounted for the biggest portion of my grade). She was hard to understand at times but if you follow her closely and ask questions you'll surely understand better. The homework is very helpful for exams though its very extensive and worth very little.
She explains every little thing and goes through every little step. If you don't understand it in class, you will understand it when you do the homework. The homework is online and it forces you to learn the material because you can do it until you get it. Her tests are easier than the homework assignments.
Take her! she makes this subject really easy...she's very straight forward about what will be on midterms. the hardest part of the class is the homework since you have to keep doing problems until their right, which can be time consuming. And ALEKS, the assessment online is can also be very time consuming. Easy B A highly probable
Very clear and helpful. Definitely looooves math, almost too much. But definitely recommend for any class, don't listen to the whiners who don't belong in college anyhow.
This teacher talks and teaches way to fast Dont take her unless youre a fast learner! too many chapters to learn before an exam (because the process of a problem is long) and homework is due too fast. EVERYTHING IS TOO FAST DONT TAKE HER
Best math teacher I've ever had.She talks a little fast and there is quite a bit of hw but it's doable and it's because she wants you to do practice and do well in the class.if you pay attention there's no reason to not understand. She's so nice she'll go over what she went over quickly and she's super willing to help especially during office hours.
She is a great professor! She answers emails quickly and is there to help with anything. however, you need to have a sharp ear because she talks fast in between breaths. If you go to class, pay attention, DO THE WORK, you will get an A. It shows she really cares about her students, so don't be shy or afraid to talk to her. I got an A
Newberger does teach quite fast. The notes are very helpful for the HW and tests. Her tests are pretty easy if you put in a bit of time and effort to study. She posts practice tests and solutions. Overall, she teaches fine, and is very helpful. Its the subject matter that is tough to comprehend for most students, not her teaching methods.
Such a great teacher! She's so awesome, so helpful, so clear, and she has this quirky sense of humor that totally adds to the class. Hw is pretty easy, notebook checks are easy points, tests aren't ridiculously hard. Kids from other Math 115 classes are always in there because they learn so much more from her class
Recommend this professor, made the concepts extremely clear with the powerpoint slides. You have online hw due every week . Book is not mandatory, notes should suffice. Easy B if you know the material.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK> waste of money -_- shes boring but you have to go for her stupid clicker questions(but theyre easy) she overexplains everything which is good for people who have trouble with math or havent taken a math class. shes way better than all the other teachers.
She's a really good teacher for business calc if you learn best through examples because that's all she does in class. There's online homework twice a week which sucks but every business calc teacher is gonna have. Also, class is mandatory because she does clicker questions every day which count towards your grade.
BEST out of all the business calc teachers. She basically writes all the tests and notes for the other classes. Goes over every problem thoroughly, which might get tedious if you already understand the concepts. Clicker questions are part of the grade and are about 2-3 every class. WOULD RECOMMEND HIGHLY! Online homework, little textbook use.
It's nice to have professors who care. Most of my experience has shown CSULB professors are there to teach and that is all. Newberger goes out of her way to help students who may need additional help. I fell behind and she came in on an off day to help. Highly recommend taking her class as you will learn and be guided through Calc.
I totally appreciate this professor's participation. She takes better interest in students' learning than many high school teachers! Explains all topics thoroughly and is very fun to be around. Found myself laughing a few times in class. Overall, great class, I recommend for GEs if interested in using actual NUMBERS for math, rather than models.
Awesome teacher. Go to office hours for 1 on 1 help. you can email her hw questions and she will help you. ALl hw online on webassign. Attendance mandatory uses iClicker. On hw you get 30 tries per problem so ask her for help to get 100% on them.
She's a very good teacher, I recommend taking her. She's very understanding towards personal problems. Attendance is mandatory, homework is mandatory.
This is probably the best education i have ever received from a college professor! I took her intro to proofs class and boy did i learn a a lot.she was harsh on the homeworks but she did let us rewrite it until we got it right. Also Always willing to help during office hrs too!
to be honest I am decent in math this is college algebra. which means it is just algebra 2 and some trig. I passed those classes with ease in high school.. but this prof was horrendous. she spent sooooo much time on one problem that was simple. she made things more complicated than it had to be. TAKE THE SI CLASS!!!!!! Way more better than the prof
Newberger is a great teacher. She is always prepared. Her test are average and if you show work and understood part of the problem she gives partial points. I highly recommend you take her, I would take her again. She is a fantastic teacher.
i love her, she's a shy teacher though. It's so cute when she gets nervous hahaha. But she's really clear, i didnt really pay attention in class and i still managed to get an A. Attendance is mandatory because of iclicker points. take her!
Professor Newberger is a great professor. Math was my weakest subject in highschool but after taking her, I actually enjoyed it (most parts haha). She provides lecture notes to print and they are very helpful for the tests! Take her :) oh and she kinda sounds like dory from finding nemo
Test are extremely easy but she is no help at all. All she does is make the simplest of problems very confusing.
She takes roll through iclicker questions which are a minor percent to your grade. Easy if you ask someone else to answer for you. Other than that the subject is easily teachable to yourself. She makes everything confusing on her lectures and stresses topics out making them harder than they seem. I'd suggest taking her for an easy math class.
Attendance is mandatory, which isn't a big deal. She is very organized and always on time, if you need help she will always make time for you and is understanding about personal issues. The grading is sometimes annoying because you will lose points for not putting parenthesis but you will get points for just trying the problem on tests and homework
She is very helpful! Her lectures are very organized and you must attend in order to do well in the class. She tells you specifically what types of problems from the homework will be on the test. Very well-structured. Fair grading on tests, which are never multiple choice.
Very dull teaching, not incorporation of student body or checking to see if material is being understood.
She's a very sweet and adorable professor. Though I didn't look forward to going to lecture because it was all pretty straight forward, she does give points off clicker questions. The webassign and assignments she gives you to print out really help. Study those things and you'll pass. It's an easy A.
Good Teacher!
AVOID. Unsure if Math 115 has same lesson plan for all teachers, however of this class I am sure: Homework load is ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS. 1-2 large problem sets per week, offline homework, group projects (separate 50 minute class), possible leftover group session homework, required lecture notes & ALEKS (IS VERY IMPORTANT, DO AS BEST AS YOU CAN!!!!)
No explanation for homework, organization for class. Buy a ridiculous amount of material for class, barely use.
On the plus side she is a quirky teacher. Always prompt, ready, and available to teach. Lecture goes by quickly. Sadly, the course was incredibly difficult. Test problems were never similar to problems worked on in class. Ridiculous amount of software and homework for one class. You will have to learn on your own if you do not go to office hours.
I'm poor at math to begin with, so having said that I think she's a really great teacher. Her lectures are a little rough, but she stays after class every day for an hour to help with homework and answer questions. It's a lot of busy work, but if you keep up and ask for help you'll do well.
Personally struggled with this class until my friend helped me with specific concepts, but her lectures were very helpful and I enjoyed the class. She always responded to emails whenever I had an issue with WebAssign or other things. If you ask her she's always there for you. I wish all my professors were that available and welcoming.
One of the best professors at CSULB. Her lectures are straight forward and she's there for you anytime you need help. Not a hard class but definitely time consuming.
She is really helpful; I would always email her when I had trouble with problems and she would email me with precise steps on what I was doing wrong. Her lectures are also very clear. Test are really easy if you study your notes.
She is possibly the toughest professor you will ever have in your college career but boy will you have learned a lot. She's a grammar naxi so spell check and commas are a must lol. She definitely challenges you. Always expect the unexpected. She's not one of the those teachers were you can fake out to you make. She's great in office hours.
She is a great professor! She is the best one in the math 115 course, so yeah definitely take her because this class is pretty difficult. She shows lots of examples and will always help you out during office hours. TAKE THE SI CLASS BECAUSE IT WILL HELP A LOT! You need to study to get down the material but put in the time and you will pass!TAKE HER
Newberger made Math115 the easiest class for me. She has designed the method to teach business calculus at CSULB and she will make you like calculus. She is one of the best professors i had so far.
Definitely recommend any upcoming business calc student to take her class. Everything is easy to follow. Just remember to study offline homework before the test and her office hours are great too. Easy A if you put some time into studying.
A lot of notes and she just keeps on going. TOUGH grader. She expected so much from you. Homework is difficult, and she made it more difficult by grading very strict. I like math, but I don't like her class.
Great professor. Genuinely cares about her students and their ability to learn, lectures are easy to follow and understand, clicker questions were helpful, does a lot of examples in class
She's a very caring professor, she's great in office hour. She's a tough grader, BUT thats how you learn. She's very understanding, as long as you put effort in this class, and do all your work, I believe you will be fine. BUT this course is not easy though. btw, she gives alot of notes, sometimes its kind of unorganized, but those are ver helpful
Her lectures are based on lecture notes that we can print out and she does it with us in class. Attendance isn't required, but is recommended because she uses iclicker questions for points. If you have a question, she'll stop everything to help you understand it better. Have to print out homework and turn it in every week, on top of online homework
3 exams . first two are pretty easy , the third is awfully tough. The final is hard. Although everything may seem fairly simple, you need to understand it 100% . The homework and notes makes it seem easy but the test are a different ball game.
She is such a great professor! I had to retake the class after having a absurd course run with William Ziemer (Stay Clear!).She welcomes questions and is really patient in making sure you completely understand the material very well! There is WebAssign homework, 3 exams, and 1 Final. The final is worth 28% of the overall grade.
Uses web assign for homework and as long as you do the homework and attend most of the classes she makes it pretty easy to understand.
Pay attention to the lectures and take good and neat notes. She is very caring and helps you a lot in office hours.
Pass or Fail class, I failed the first time I took MAPB7, but when I took her I passed all my tests with A's. She is such a good professor!! I wish she taught upper division math. You have to go to all the classes in order to understand the material.
Professor Newberger is an amazing teacher. She is very passionate in teaching the material and explains everything step by step. I passed Math1112A with an A and Im taking her again for 112B. In 112A, she gives very specific study guides for quizzes and exams which is great! Keep your quizzes & exams for practice for the final exam!
Newberger Is a caring Math Professor, She makes students feel passionate about themselves and understand how much studying is needed in order to get a decent grade in Math. She lectures very accurate and is able to flow within certain types of problems. Class consisted of 3 midterm and quizzes every week and 1 Final.
Dr. Newberger is true to her word, she really does care about her students and how well you do on your tests, quizzes every week, tests every 4 weeks. Do your homework, it makes most of your grade. Dont be afraid to see her during office hours
she is a tough grader but she really cares about her students. she's very helpful in office hours but one thing that i struggled the most with her is how fast she takes her lectures. talk to her if you ever have any problems; she's very understanding. & definitely talk to her about advice on what classes to take for the following semester!
She is a great professor. She really cares about her students, and she will come in for the days she's not suppose to just to give you the help that you need, all she need from you is to communicate with her to let her know what exactly you're not understanding about her lectures. Wonderful Professor!!
You have to work for the grade you get but she's more than reasonable with this. She always makes the time for you to ask her questions and is very understanding if you have a special circumstance. I could not recommend her more!
Great teacher available during lecture hours. The main problem I always had was that I was not the best writer in math proofs, she heavily grades your writing but will work with you in order to approve. She always takes her time with students to make sure they understand the material. Her notes are also clear and she puts videos online of the lec.
Professor Newberger is one of the greatest Professors so far. She really cares about her students and is willing to go out of her way to help her students. She also explains everything very well during Lectures and has flexible office hours. Definitely would retake her class without a doubt.
Prof Newberger is a great teacher, very thorough and makes it easy to follow along. She is willing to stay after class and help students and always makes sure she helps anyone who needs it. Her and the math team offer many office hours and study sessions; very helpful! I had Yasmin for activity, and she also teaches thoroughly and very helpful!
Professor Newberger is very caring and nice, she's always stays after class to help you or answer questions. She's always willing to help you in any way she can especially since its online. I really enjoy her lecture, she takes her time explaining everything.
She is a great and very helpful. Take advantage of the office hours and tutoring offered. Homework and quizzes every week but it is manageable. If you need help she is willing to help you step by step. Go to class she explains good.
Prof was an amazing teacher. She explained everything well and in-depth. She honestly cares about her students and wants to help them when they are confused. She is very flexible and willing to help students outside of class during office hours. Activity quizzes are straightforward.
Took her for math112a in large lecture. She was super nice and explained things clearly. Answered questions respectfully! Im usually not good at math but I got through it thanks to her.
She is great professor. We had 2 exams and a final, 3 quizzes, and quite a few homework assignments. Homework problems can be a bit challenging but she will help you out in office hours. Study the homework and class notes and you will do well. She likes to do work in groups on the board which is actually helpful and fun. I highly recommend her.
She was very helpful and understanding whenever I reached out to her about either a personal or class-related issue. I had her for both the lecture and activity for this class and she was really great at explaining topics in both. The grading was a little annoying, but nothing drastically terrible.
While proctoring my comprehensive exam, she commented that she dated a Mexican guy in college. She said that she went to beaches in Mexico with him. Please leave comments on race and dating. When I wanted to run Women in Math, she said "there are other women in the dept." Please exclude comments with implications.
One of the better professors I've had at CSULB. I was so scared to retake this class since I had failed it before, but she makes it so much easier than it looks. Always provides examples and extra resources to study with, will check on every student during activity just to make sure they understand the content and is always happy to help!!
Professor Newberger is an amazing professor. Her lectures are great even though the material itself can be very confusing. Where she really shines is during office hours. She is happy to help anyone and she is extremely helpful 1on1. She even helped me with calc3. Would 100% take again. Beware of long homeworks however, she is lenient with makeups.
FAV PROF EVER. took her for calc 2 which is confusing in itself but she made it so easy to learn and genuinely cared about her students. a lot of webassigns had extra credit and she provides really good study guides for every midterm and test which was extremely helpful and was identical to the test. registered to take her for calc 3 bc i love her
Great explanations! very, VERY available and helpful in office hours. i usuallly just did my hw in there and didnt need much help, but she would always circle around the room and check in on students. She would even try to help students in other classes like physics that she could help with the math in
The best Math professor I ever had! She does go a little fast at times but she will go over the problems during activity. She will let you retake quizzes for partial points. Activity is where you do most of your homework! Best professor of all time! I averaged about a 90 on the exams. Please take this professor!
all her exams are very easy and straightforward. it was a very easy A and she's so caring to all her students. take her if u can.
