He was great. If you didn't understand something, he'd try to help you.
He is super boring, and possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. I did get an A though, because the tests were multiple choice.
I found his class very hard to get through. It felt almost like I was unlearning every thing I already knew from high school chem. I also found him very hard to aproch and seek help. Good Luck.
Ahh.. horrible class.. doesnt understand that the majority of his class isnt on the level he teaches. Just not a good teacher for Chemistry 1. Has a grading curve, but still way he teaches is VERY hard to grasp. Tests are multiple choice, but they arent as easy as they seem. STUDY A LOT!!!
This professor was incredibly hard. He was not clear at all on what he wanted or expected from his students, his test were impossible and I felt as if everything that I learned in my high school chemistry class was worthless to me.
Although he is a very nice person, his teaching style is confusing. He offers help, but the help doesn't do too much. The material he says to study isnt even on the tests half the time.
He is a very smart person, but is not a good teacher. He expects students to know everything and even though the tests are multiple choice, they are very difficult. Half the class failed, and has to take it over again. Good luck to anyone who has to take him.
He is a really nice guy, but a horrible teacher. Tests are multiple choice. The labs are lengthy and time consuming. Lab exams are difficult to pass. I had an A in the first course, C in the second and Bs in both labs.
He is a very nice guy, but his class is very hard. Gives about 25 multiple choice questions but you don't know what to study. Too much to study.
really nice dude, but his teaching technique needs work...bad. He get so excited at the spliting of atoms and stuff, but hasn't the slightest clue how to transfer that excitement or knowledge to his students.
He's a really nice guy and super friendly, but he can NOT teach. He's just so smart that he has a hard time translating it into a language we normal people can understand. I love having lab with him, but lecture is killing my grade, and I'm a chemistry major!
Well he is a very nice guy, but all he does is make you print out the notes, then you come to class and he reads you the notes. He does a couple of examples then it's time for the test. I can do the problems in class, in lab, and when I'm studying, but when I get his test I can't do any of the problems.
Tricky Tests
very hard teacher, extremely difficult exams, i changed my major because of his classes....the screwed up my gpa big time and then i started making all a's
STAY AWAY!!!he's the worst. b/c of this class my gpa fell and i lost hope. he is so hard and if you ask questions he only repeats what you didn't understand..he's no help..sure he's nice...if you are a brilliant chemistry major and already know EVERYTHING about chem! other than that...he's horrible. i learned nothing from his class.a waste of $$$
I spent more time studying for this class than any other and still failed. I read every chapters, did the bookwork , and found a tutor but couldn't pass. I had a 4.0 gpa there that goes. This class has made me Miserable.
Great teacher, explains stuff during office hours. Must be able to understand the concept of the information to do well on the test. You can't just work problems and come to class. You must take the time to study the concept. Great teacher and very friendly. Enjoys getting to know the students. I've also taken him for Chem 1212 and Chem 3135
Although Dr Jacksons class is very hard but I have learned alot from him. He is a great teacher. Yes, his tests and labs are hard and time consuming to study for but you have to spend alot of time working on chemistry in order to learn it, the material is hard no the teacher. Dr Jackson does not give grades away,He makes you earn it.
Dr. jackson is the best chem teacher i have ever had. I made an "A" in both chem 1 and chem 2 and in the labs. they say he is very interesting at times, but i dunno cause i didn't go to class most of the time. I recommend that u take this professor instead of the survey courses. U learn a lot.
Dr. Jackson is one of the nicest professors ever, but he is not biased when giving your grade. He really makes you work for your grade. I studied soooo hard, but I still failed. The class is really hard, I wished I would have dropped it. Good Luck though!
Great teacher. If you study hard,do all the problems assigned, and have the mental capacity to be at university you will pass. How students who expect to be spoon-fed and given an automatic A as a reward for attendance will function in a class of 300 or in the real world is beyond me. If you need 'easy', the world needs you out of university.
Horible teacher do not take him if at all possible.
he was horrible. He only read off slides and didn't really tell you much. He does work problems on a overhead projector and he will help you if you can catch him to ask questions. My opinion is just go to tutoring for the class if you hope to pass.
He's a wonderful pro. for a innately difficult subject. He's patient, helpful, and really wants you to do well. I think that anyone taking it, (mostly pre-med) should do fine, especially if they're even THINKING of med school. If you can't pull off this class, it's not Dr. Jackson's fault. You MUST study to do well, but Dr. J will help you out!
Dr. Jackson, is a great teacher who is very enthusiastic about the material that he teaches. He is very clear in his instructions and he is willing to help anyone who needs extra help, with a sense of humour. In order to do well in this class, you definitely have to make sure that you read the material and work the problems in the text. Good luck
These people r crazy!! His class is HARD. You WILL fail. Avoid him if you can. He has 25 question tests on 3 chapters, how would u ever know what to study? You dont know so u have to memorize the book. His labs r easy though but his class is crap!
He is very hard. If you answer a question wrong, be ready for him to laugh at you.
He is the worst prof. ever. Do not expect help. WARNING he will laugh at you and enjoys people making mistakes.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!
If you listen in class and review the chapter objectives then you will be fine. Easy Teacher!
I dropped this class. His class was ridiculously hard and he was not at all helpful. he made me want to cry and kept me completly stressed for the time that I was in there. I would def. say to avoid him whenever possible!!!
Very pick, but also very compotent.
Dr. Jackson is a great teacher. He is really passionate about Chemistry. His test are very hard and you have to study a lot. He is very willing to help though, and wants you to understand. If you're not affraid to study and learn I deffinitely recommend taking his class.
Nice as long as you don't take his class. He laughs at your mistakes and makes you feel like a complete moron. I had a 4.0 GPA before his class. He did not help in any way. He never responded to emails or phone messages. And made me feel uncomfortable in one-on-one situations with inappropriate contact and comments. Don't take him. He's horrible!
The instructor is knowledgeable, but he is not helpful to a student who does not have a previous knowledge of chemistry. If you don't understand, get a tutor. Jackson acts caring and concerned but he belittles and is inappropriate with some students. Good chemist, terrible character. Study hard and take someone with you to ask q's. Know where HR is
ITS NOT ABOUT WORKING HARD IN THIS CLASS, ITS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN WHAT IS BEING TAUGHT AND HOW IT IS PRESENTED ON AN EXAM. OF WHICH IS NOT CONSISTENT IN THIS COURSE. ITS BEYOND HARD UNLESS YOU WERE WELL VERSED IN CHEM PRIOR TO TAKING THIS COURSE. THERE ARE NO BETTER ALTERNATIVE PROF FOR THIS SUBJECT AT CSU UNFORTUNATELY.GOOD LUCK!
I will completely admit that Jackson's class is very hard and he has earned the reputation of the hardest teacher for Chem. I took his class one time. I failed, only because I didn't apply myself though. Took it during summer when much harder and passed with an A. Very encouraging and will tell you what you need to do to imporve, great teacher to m
Great Teacher!!! he is hard if you don't apply yourself and not pay attention in his class. the class itself is hard but he goes over everything that you need to know for the tests. i will try and take him every time that i can!!!
Chemistry with or without Dr.Jackson is difficult however Dr.Jackson teaches to the student who knows nothing. He's VERY helpful. I only recommend him if you want to learn. He's a GREAT guy and deserves to be PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR! Apply yourself and work hard, he notices that!
Dr. Jackson comes off as a very hard teacher, but you will learn to appreciate the things he teaches you. I did think he was hard but you have to just study and actually put effort into studying. I ended up taking him again from CHEM 1212. Excellent teacher, just wants students to really know the material.
Not as bad as they say, nice teacher willing to help, study for his test because they are a lot harder than he says they will be, overall not a bad teacher
Dr. Jackson is one of the better chemistry teachers at columbus state. He gives you his power points along with his class objectives. He has weekly tutoring sections, and he tries to keep students interested, poor dude just can't really teach. Learn the objectives, and work the problems in the book everyday and learn how to apply defenitions.
Great guy and fun personality. He will keep you laughing and slightly interested. He loves participation and just wants his students to do well. Chemisry is hard itself but he is willing to help you. He teaches slow and rushes material in right before the test. However, he had weekly study sessions to help his students and they were very helpful
VERY hard professor, extremely nice guy but again, VERY hard! but again, he's the dean of chemistry...
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! WHEN IT CAME TIME TO TAKE TESTS FOR HIM I FELT LIKE WHY DID I EVEN STUDY OR LOOK AT THE CHAPTER OBJECTIVES. THE TESTS HAD MATERIAL THAT WE NEVER COVERED OR BARELY COVERED. THEN HE WOULD COME TO CLASS AND MAKE JOKES ABOUT HOW THE TEST WASN'T HARD AND WE ALL SHOULD HAVE PASSED! PSSSHH!!
Too smart to teach... Dr. Jackson has a hard time breaking down the material to retard level. If you don't have a good concept of basic math, don't take this CLASS. Expect to spend a lot of time studying, but he curves the final grade of the class. Do the homework, show up to class, and study for the tests... yep you're in college.
Dr. Jackson is a excellent professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches and he is also pretty funny. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to help his students succeed. One thing you should know though; his test are hard. Even when he dumbs them down, they are still hard. I hate Chemistry but he really is your best bet at this school.
IF you want to learn chemistry then take it with Prof Zewdu Gebeyehu or another professor. Dr. Jackson smiles sarcastically and favors some students. He gives out multiple choice exams which are a waste of time. So, RUN!!!
Dr Jackson is great, his test however, are not. If you don't plan on doing a lot of studying, don't take him. You can't just be acquainted with the concepts and expect to do well on his test, you have to KNOW the material. He does have a built in curve but that doesn't mean be lazy. It means study! You'll need that curve in the end.
If you are a diligent student who READS the chapter and does the problems he works in class. (also do the textbook sample exercises) You should have no problem.Don't exepct to wing any tests, just b/c they're multiple choice.Dr.Jackson is very inclusive in all of his exams and he makes sure that his students learn everything they need to know. He's
Dr. Jackson is a great teacher. He takes the time to provide extra help sessions for the students to come practice the problems. He is always there to help and some students just don't want to put the extra time in working out the problems. Yeah the tests are difficult, but if take advantage of all the extra opportunities you will do fine.
Dr. Jackson's tests are simple and easy to ace. They may seem hard for biology majors and that is their fault for not studying the textbook and just the powerpoint notes. If you do not know how to read and clarify what a question is asking for on the test, then you may have a problem.Favorite word "WHAT",he uses it to see if you will change answers.
Dr Jackson is very knowledgeable, but he's too smart to teach! He does offer supplemental instruction that you should take advantage of. This is chance for him to get to know you, which is important when the class size is 100+. Teaches from his powerpoints, but read the book as well for more insight. Pretty generous grading curve, but this is hard!
Professor Jackson is extremely helpful. He goes out of his way to help every student. He has help session each week and uses clickers in class to make the class interesting. He gives multiple choice exams, but you have to study his ppt notes and do the mastering chemistry problems to do well. He also gives a lot of extra credit. Great class!
Attendance not mandatory, but clickers count toward your grade (have to attend to participate with clickers). Covers the material vaguely, but test are a little harder than actual in class examples.
I took his class because everyone recommended him. He was supposed to teach 10 chapters for the semester. The thing is... he taught 4 and a half chapter for 3 quarters and taught the rest 5 and a half chapters in 1 quarter. which includes all the hard parts in chem1. There is a reason why everyone recommended him. his A is 80%. not 90%. that is it!
This class was difficult. You had to teach yourself everything. I went to a tutoring session and the tutor-er didn't even understand the professor's practice problems. Anyways he's a sweet professor. He's got quite a sense of humor and hes willing to help you but really if your going to take this class STUDY. STUDY HARD and UNDERSTAND.
He's a very funny and nice person. He is very helpful but he is also the Chemistry Department chair and barely has any time to help anyone. He sometimes jumps around in class and falls behind. For our class, he put 5 chapters on to one test and it was a disaster. His tests are also extremely hard and worded very confusingly.
he doesnt actually ever teach. he just reads from the book and expects you to get it. his study guides are terrible and wont help you on the test. good luck
Book is not required but make sure you study everyday! He is always available for help during office hours.
He's a great guy and super funny. His tests are tough but if you read the book you'll do fine. Go to class and his office if you have questions. He will not let you fail if you ask questions. He likes to know you care and want to learn.
Test are hard, his study guides are no help at all, and he gets off subject a lot. Even if you do go to the office for help it won't help. He is so smart that he can't dumb it down! Good Luck
I would definitely not recommend taking this professor. Although he's very sweet and a happy person, he is NOT someone you want to take. His tests are HARD. Our class average was failing... DO NOT TAKE. It's purely the tests that will make you fail considering it's the only grades you get.
Dr. Jackson is a very smart man! His class was very hard to many, even people that had already taken other chemistry courses... He teaches on a higher level and expects you to already know the material. He's very sweet and goofy though, and will help you whenever he's available.
You don't have to show up, but he gives extra credit for showing up on days where attendance is low. The extra credit saved me from failing the class so i recommend going, especially the day before breaks. Tests are HARD. Great guy, just not a great teacher. I really believe he does try though. The subject is difficult no matter who teaches it.
He doesn't take attendance, he only took it three times in my class and ended up giving the people there extra credit. He doesn't want to see you fail, so as long as you go to his office and ask questions and show him that you care, he'll help you. but, i do recommend reading the book. That's exactly where his tests come from
Don't take him if you want a good grade in Chemistry. What he lectures on, his notes and his study guide are NOTHING like the test! His lectures are confusing and he teaches everything that ISN'T on the test. He's nice but when you ask for help he kind of shrugs it off as no big deal and says 'it'll be fine'. Even tutors are confused by him.
RUN! Run far and fast
Dr. Jackson knows what he is talking about but assumes it is an easy subject to grasp. He doesn't take attendance. He moves extremely fast and there isn't many grades you receive so if you do badly it will greatly impact you.
His tests are Hard and nothing like the examples in the book. They are five choice multiple choice. If you ask to come by during office hours or for help he will say no. He doesn't return or answer emails. He takes attendance by learnsmart online but it doesn't grade correctly and he wont fix it. Hes a liberal.
Jackson is the department chair. If you're going into one of his classes thinking it's going to be easy... turn TF around and leave because his class ain't no joke. Chemistry is hard subject anyways so yeah expect to work for your C (aim low because thats probably what you'll end up with). Go to his office hours - he's willing to help you out.
His lectures were fine but tests and homework often had materials he didn't cover. He knows his class is difficult and has a built in curve. This helps but can make understanding your grade confusing until final grades are posted. Wouldn't recomend if you have a choice, if you get stuck taking his class it is passable. Don't need book but it helps.
Dr. Jackson is probably one of the best chem professors you could take here at Columbus State. His lectures are very clear and he is there to help after class during his office hours if you need more help on the subject. His grading (point system) is fair and I would advise anyone that needs to take a chem class to take Jackson.
Dr. Jackson is an amazing person so it makes up for how hard this class is. Study and prepare too teach yourself if you don't understand. Start a study group from Day 1, go to tutoring, and make sure that you take his lab as well. If you participate and show him your effort he will pass you. This class is difficult but its passable.
Dr. Jackson is very kind and likes to joke a lot. He is a TOUGH GRADER. In the beginning of lab semester, I was so worried that I would fail his lab because of how tough he grades his labs. He likes when you come to his office hours, and see you're trying. I like him as a person but I wouldn't take him again, if it were up to me.
I absolutely love Dr. Jackson. He is very helpful and wants to see his students do well. He encourages you to ask questions & come by his office. Hes the department chair & that may sound intimidating but hes really nice & understanding. Grading and exams are fair and he tells you what to study for. Has very clear of expectations in his class.
I had a really good time in this class. It is challenging but he tries to make it as simple as possible. He really does want you to pass his class to advance. Lots of opportunities to reach out and ask for help if needed.
The professor was really good, he seemed like he cared a lot about what he teaches and if we understand or not. Lots of office hours and time to ask questions but the tests weren't easy, and the homework program Aleks wasn't great but that's not his fault. Pay attention and make a study group and you will be good.
Professor Jackson is amazing! He talks you through the lecture and encourages you to ask questions if you do not know he he got the answer. He makes the lab/lecture feel like a safe space!
Dr. Jackson is such a happy spirit and even though his courses aren't "easy A's," they aren't impossible to succeed in. He is also a great research professor!
I loved having Professor Floyd, he shows and explains what he is teaching and helps you when you don't understand something. Attendance is mandatory and doing homework on Alek helps your grade. He is very caring and wants you to succeed, I am retaking him for chem 1212 this semester.
Professor Jackson is a very knowledgeable and kind professor, but I struggled with his class. I had a problem, "Aleks." This is the website where you submit all of your homework and tests, and it seems like a good, repetitive way to study, but if you are unfamiliar with the subject, you will be stuck on it for hours.
