Extremely knowledgable in her field, she is one of the leading professors/researchers in Criminal Justice. Tests are graded with comments, as are papers.
She's ridiculous. She pauses for so long between words that anyone with a remote case of ADD will be lost by the end of the sentence...which came straight out of the book. Not worth going to class.
She is really nice, and very clear. She wants to see everyone do well. Very knowledgable. The tests are straight foreward, and come straight from the lectures. If you miss a lecture, the lecture is posted online, very helpful.
She is a really nice woman and is not intimidating at all (she is very accomplished and well-known in her field)Her lectures are clear and really interesting. Her lecture outlines are online, but can be confusing if you never come to class.
Professor Buntman was an excellent Professor. She was not only extremely intelligent and knowledgeable, she gave you the chance to do well in her class. I would definitely recommend her classes to others as she absolutely peaked my interest in her field.
Buntman is very interesting and interested in her students comments. her tests are great if you study and follow somewhat in the class. go to this class, because otherwise, you wont understand the gist of the notes.
Professor Buntman is really sweet and extremely helpful. She puts the notes on blackboard, which is nice for reviewing. But, if you don't go to class they won't teach you the material. She's definately one of the most approachable and knowledgeable professors at GW.
She is a good teacher, gives you notes, but she has a very monotone borning voice. That is her only fault
ok, the material is pretty straight forward and interesting, however, she has the most boring lectures ever. This being said, she is still very approachable and is very knowledgable in her field. Good class.
An easy A. Material is common sense and prior knowledge for the most part. I attended nearly every lecture but didn't pay attention at all (wireless internet), still aced the tests. Prof is intelligent and very approachable - though sometimes boring. Notes posted on BB explain the entire course.
Boring teacher who def. does not bring any of the material to life but easy A if you study her powerpoints religiously..the material is pretty straightforward...
She loves class discussions and enjoys discussing current events. Her exams aren't so hard if you attend class and take good notes. The class was pretty interesting overall
Sooooo nice!!!!! If you go to class, skim the book, and/or use the outlines posted on Blackboard, you should do just fine. She's a really great professor who truly cares about the subject and about her students. My absolute fave professor at GW!
Seriously the most boring class I have ever taken, but it is really easy if you study her powerpoints. She does add more information during lecture, but there is wireless in the classroom and I don't pay attention at all, I still have an A though. Lots of memorization.
Not organized at all, boring lectures, but easy tests.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you can handle hours of complete and utter boredom. I never thought I'd meet a person more liberal than I am, but she has no shame pointing out what she doesnt like about republicans (even when politics has nothing to do with our discussion). Make sure you bring your laptop and have gwireless if you take the class.
Her level of disorganization is inconsistent with the harshness of her grading. She appears quite pleasant but has the unfortunate ability to subjectively underhand her students. Her spiteful manner discouraged me from being interested in learning. She lost all credibility and respect from me. She seems prideful, but lacks respect for students.
boring class but pretty easy if you actually pay attention. dont bother buying the book, youll never open it.
Really boring class. The class actually has great potential to be interesting but she makes it very dull. You don't really have to read the book. Just listen to what she says (if you can stay awake) and you'll get a good grade.
Her classes are just insufferably boring and uninteresting. I documented my friend's naps on my camera phone. Her lectures are also superlatively liberal in theory, which I felt detracted from the subject. The class turned out to be a moderately easy A, but it wasn't worth it... imagine that.
Lectures are so boring!!! However, if you study hard for the tests, and take good notes - its not too hard to get an A in the class. Plus if you do well on the 3 tests, you dont have to take the final. Attendance required
THE BEST PROF.- I have taken several of her classes- and she is passionate, helpful, and interesting. The only reason people think she is boring is because she has a beautiful south african accent that can be very soothing at 8am. The material and presentation really is interesting and isnt a joke like Sutton or other Prof. who dont give a $h*t.
I really liked her class and while she is not 100% engaging all of the time she cares and will teach you something if you show up and care.
insufferably boring, her voice lulls you to sleep. very unfair with grading... test questions are very unclear. the textbook is very interesting but then when you go to take the test your studying and interest does not reflect your grade
The class is an easy A so go for it if you're looking to fufill GCR. You get to chose if your attendance counts which is nice. She's enthusiastic about the subject. The lectures are super boring but she puts everything on powerpoints on blackboard. The reading is not neccessary if you thoroughly study the notes before the exam. Overall nice person
this class is not an easy A. Although I have done well (A- grades WITH studying/reading)..her tests are unclear. She is boring, no extra credit besides having your attendance count. one plus=optional final TA was semi-helpful..grading was unfair. I do not recommend this class unless you have a sincere interest in criminal justice...it's painful
Lectures consist of her reading directly from the slides she gives you in advance. Her test questions are often worded terribly and the grading is pretty tough. Only go to lectures if you sign up at the begining of the year to have your attendance count towards your grade. It is a waste of time however. Not as easy as an intro course should be.
If you extracted all the pauses from her lectures, class would be 5 minutes long. Her longwinded explanations, redundant statements, and frequent pauses are completely frustrating and unnecessary. Show up, skim the texts, download the lecture notes and an A is within easy reach however.
SUCH A GOOD TEACHER. The material is really interesting. The tests are not hard. OPTIONAL FINAL. TEST based on lectures. loved it.
All you have to do is read the PowerPoint notes online.
The class is a complete waste of time. She does nothing more then read her Power Points. I have learned absolutely nothing. She values her opinion much more than any factual knowledge about the topic. The only good thing about the class is that attendance isn't mandatory so I don't have to suffer through all her classes.
I took this class on a whim because it sounded sort of interesting. Her style of lecturing, facilitation of respectful but heated discussion, and interest in her students are outstanding. Professor Buntman challenges her students by demanding their awareness of current events in the field.
her lectures are horrible. you know when a paper was too short in HS and you add nonsense or 'fluff' to make it longer.... yeah thats the way she lectures. the class:three tests, one opinional final, a internet assignent, and you can decide if attendence will count. read over the notes. she puts in a few questions on the test from class examples.
Very nice and understanding. Her classes are boring but if you go to them you get automatic extra credit. Pretty easy tests.
Professor Buntman was a very interesting Professor. Although attendance was not mandatory, it boosts your grade in the end, so go to class! Tests are not TOO hard, but you have to study! Take this class, it was not too hard, and VERY interesting!
WONDERFUL! Intro to CJ lectures are enjoyable ... tests are fair ... extra credit opportunities offered. Great sense of humor - cares about students. Wonderful orator - loved listening to her speak.
HATED going to lecture, so boring, and posted all notes online. Attendance boosts grade in end so better to go and suffer. Interesting material and helpful. Very helpful and approachable outside of class environment and also very sweet, but absolutely hated class.
classes seemed endless, but opting for attendance to count really helps. her grading is ridiculous, she takes off every little point she possibly can. the tests arent like normal tests, the questions always seemed like stuff you skipped over while studying bc it seems unimportant. not a lot of work, but study hard for the exams!
Take this class! Tests are fair but do need to study and it's mostly spitback. Some topics more interesting than others, some fascinating. Optional final which is great. She puts a TON of extra credit on exams, at least ten points. Book is a waste all from her notes she posts everything though. Still go to class it can be interesting. Really nice
The lectures can get boring, but if you listen to her the information is rather interesting. You learn things that everyone American citizen should know. The tests are all about her notes and she gives tons of extra credit on them. One paper...pretty easy
I found this class extremely boring, and because of that was unable to pay attention, and unfortunately, do as well as I should. She does build in extra credit, and offer extra credit for attendance. If you can sit through a boring class and pay attention, you should do well...If not (like me) it will be a little more of a struggle.
She's a good professor, it's not an easy A, but it doesn't take thatttt much work to get an A either
Classes darg on for hours, so have some sort of entertainment ready. The class is a lot of common sense stuff, and fairly interesting. More importantly though, it's easy. She's not the most likable character, but if you're looking for an easy class, this is it.
Although she can be a little crazy, Buntman was a pretty good professor and really cares about her students. All of what put on the tests are on her powerpoints, so just study those. There is also a small paper which she is willing to help you with! It's a really interesting class, and I would highly recommend it.
This class is extremely interesting. Honestly you dont have to read anything from the textbook since all the exams are from the power points. She gives an optional final and a paper that is only 10% of your grade. There are 3 tests during the semester all with 12 points extra credit built in. Study and you will get an A!
Not a hard class, literally studied for less than 2 weeks during the entire semester to get a B.
I loved Professor Buntman, she has a sparkling personality and she is clearly interested in what she teaches. She is a great lecturer, and her ppts are crystal clear. Gives many opportunities to raise your grade as well. Definitely take a class with her before finishing GW!!
Prof. Buntman is a fair teacher who gives reasonable tests and you do not have to read the textbook. She posts all powerpoints on blackboard. She can be condescending and will call you out in the middle of class on a whim. Do not talk in her class or she will threaten to kick you out. No joke. Overall- I would take the class- easy grade.
Interesting material, boring lectures. Easy exams.
She drove me up a wall! She's extremely condescending and makes you use nametags in a class of 100+. She also has a hard time keeping the classes interest. I can't tell you one class that I didn't want to fall asleep. TAKE A LAPTOP! If you get the TA Becca Miller, I'm really sorry. She was rude and thought she ran the class. Take if needed.
She is a ok teacher. Bases lectures off of powerpoint slides. You DO NOT need to read the textbook to get a good grade. Basically, study the terms gone over in class and you can easily get an A, powerpoints are posted on BB. The TA is condescending, go to Prof. Buntman directly if you have a problem.
Prof. Buntman is awesome! Never uses the textbook, her exams are super easy, and she's very approachable. Becca's not bad and she seems to be an easy grader. Though she does make us use nametags and has issues w/ turning point clickers, she knows what she's talking about. Bring your laptop, though, because knowledgable, she isn't always interesting
interesting. don't need the textbook. tests are straight from the powerpoint. don't recommend buying the turning point clicker, because she has issues using "new" technology. sometimes condescending, but can be funny at times. no homework. bring a laptop, because her lectures aren't always interesting.
Buntman is awesome! Really fun & youthful - knows how to keep class interesting & engaging. Easy to do well if you choose to have attendance count, can still miss 3 classes. Tests are easy with built-in extra credit & only 1 assignment. No homework, readings don't help whatsoever. Take!!!!
There is no point in going to her class. She is very boring and you NEVER use the book so don't waste your money buying it. Her TA can make or break the class. Becca was terrible and gives you random grades for your assignments. Easy class to do well in though.
Easy class. You can choose attendance to count or not but it's better to go since some small things in class will appear on the exams. Fun to go to, just study the powerpoints if you want to save time.
Mostly a freshman class or for upperclassmen who need an easy A. If you study the powerpoints for the tests and put in a little bit of effort on the papers, this class is cake.
I had criminal justice with professor Buntman. Pretty easy class so long as you study her power points, remember examples she gives in class and actually watch the videos she assigns. Her TA jessica is a sweetheart! Take this class for an easy A.
Not an easy A, but if you work for it, it is easily achievable. Make sure to go to class, attendance 10% of your grade. Read her comments on Blackboard - a lot of her test answers come from there. Overall good public citizen course but an okay lecturer.
Extremely boring class boring lecturer. 3 exams 2 papers. Manageable.
honestly this was the easiest class i have ever taken at gw. the paper guidelines are so clear, getting below a decent grade seems impossible. the exams are very easy if you review the powerpoints the night before. if you come to class and actually pay attention you will be fine. but do not buy the textbook. never used it.
Buntman is a sweetheart. She gives an overwhelming amount of extra credit, it is merely impossible to not get an A. Even for those who do choose to slack off, there is an optional final which replaces your lowest test grade, basically securing an A regardless. I highly recommend taking this class. Good GPA booster and interesting material.
Buntman is brilliant. Her class is more about government and not forensics like the other cjs classes at GW. She only lectures and they can drag on but they're very interesting. She is brilliant if you go to her in OH. Her TA grades papers and her tests are pretty difficult. Attendance is an optional grade which is super great.
An amazing professor, if you put effort in it, you will get an A
Buntman is hilarious and makes learning fun. She goes out of her way to give extra credit, and wants her students to get good grades. The material covered was fascinating, and she went about teaching in a fun way by acting out scenarios and making jokes along the way. Easy and interesting course that everyone should take!
Fran is the best. She is the reason I declared a Criminal Justice minor. Her class is so interesting and keeps up with contemporary news stories which was awesome. She really bends over backwards for her students and the course isn't too difficult. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Attendance and textbook are both optional
Lets you choose whether you want your attendance to count towards your grade and offers & optional final based on your grades after the previous 3 tests. Her class is pretty interesting. She puts a good amount of focus on the news, so keep up with that, at least a little. 2 papers that are relatively easy & tests are mostly easy if you study
She is one of the most solid and fair professors you will meet. She knows her stuff and her lectures are both insightful and engaging. The class is easy, as there is built-in extra credit on all of the tests (there are 3). Only 2 essays, which are 4-5 pages each. She is a great professor to build connections with.
Worst professor ever. Lectures are not clear. Too much work for an intro course. Useless feedback since she barely gave any. She gave back our 2nd midterm 15 minutes before our final which was postponed since she didnt prepare it. WORST AND MOST USELESS PROFESSOR EVER@ DO NOT TAKE HER. this was an online course and i got a A
Fran is a really lovely lady that is extremely invested in what she teaches. Class is based strictly off her lectures and all the powerpoints are online. If you just review all the power points before each test it's an easy A. If you fail one you can take an optional final to replace the lowest grade. Anything below an A- is hard to get. Love her
Dr. Buntman was very helpful to me during a time when I was really screwing up in her class. Introduction to Criminal Justice was interesting, and honestly it was manageable, but I couldn't keep up with the coursework. She tried to help me, but I didn't really get it together in time. But I would take the course again, and I recommend it.
Fran is amazing!! The sweetest, kindest, most interesting sociology professor I've ever had. She does an incredible job of clearly explaining the concepts, and her class is super interesting. Attendance is mandatory, if you can answer her reading questions and know the powerpoints you should do fine.
Don't be confused by the low marks I gave Fran; she is an absolutely fabulous professor, there's nobody better, BUT she isn't just going to hand you an A. The material is much more abstract and theoretical (think Weber, Marx, Locke, type readings) than I like but it's still a good class. If you don't read, you will NOT do well. Can't cram for test
All of her tests questions are unclear and confusing. You write two papers that are pretty straightforward. Final exam is optional but easy 100 if you study for it. Lectures have nothing to do with chapters assigned in the textbook.
Her tests are based on her lectures which go all over the place sometimes. As long as you understand the big ideas she is talking about and why those things matter, you will do fine. There's 3 tests throughout the semester and an optional final to replace a bad test grade. The tests get harder as the semester goes on but each test has 10 EC points.
I learned so much from this course. I would love to take it again. Prof. Buntman is understanding and very fair. Highly recommend. Oh and DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK YOU NEVER NEED IT.
Her test questions are often strangely worded, but if you do the reading and go to class you can do pretty well. Do not expect to get your grades back quickly, either. Take a different class, if possible!
Fran is a wonderful person and a good lecturer. 3 2-3 page papers, 3 tests w/opt. final, and an optional attendance grade. Tests are easy if you look at her powerpoints and notes. Her TA was a difficult/unclear grader at times but she was willing to give points back and the amount of EC (10% per test) makes up for it. Easy A if you put in effort.
Nice lady, super passionate and well-informed. A little hard to understand with her accent. Lectures are detailed but difficult to follow. Attending class and taking notes is important. Extra credit opportunities available. You can choose whether or not you want attendance to count. Optional final helped my grade a lot.
You can choose if you want your attendance to count towards your grade. Don't even bother buying the textbook because tests are based on lectures and non-textbook readings/articles. Offers a ton of extra credit! Dull lectures though, so if ur willing to sit through them u'll be fine.
Overall enjoyed this class, it is not difficult at all IF you put the work in. Textbook is not necessary- all test questions come from her lectures. Material was interesting and I learned a lot! I would study using flashcards and get 95+, just know the vocab and when to apply. Biggest regret was not going to office hours for essays-
My favorite class all semester, it was easy. you just have to go to lecture to pass. The tests are based only on the lecture. Don't buy the textbook. Everything is based on the lecture. Tests are not hard, and Dr Buntman is great but she tends to get off topic alot. There is extra credit available
Do not take her for Sociology of Law. She does not grade things quickly (even when you need them to complete another part), she is an unreasonably tough grader, she expects you to read her mind and is clearly too busy to care about her class or her students. The class was so interesting but take it with someone else
Do not take a class with her. She does not stick to her syllabus at all if thats the type of person you are. Test questions are often confusing and extremely detailed. If you do the reading youll be okay. Her assignment is also insane and she was never on time handing things back even though we needed the other parts to work on the next.
This class is ok. If you try, getting an A is definitely doable through attendance points and the extra credit built into tests. Fran's lectures are very dry but test material comes straight from powerpoints. 2 two-page esssys/3 exams/optional final. Everything is graded by the TA (who gave up the second half of the semester and grading got easier)
Shes disorganized, unprofessional, and incapable of sending a clear message.
Dr. Buntman was well informed and always supportive. I liked her teaching style.
This is one of the most disorganized classes I have ever taken. The professor was constantly behind in grading, the class consisted of 2 and a half hours of talking in circles, and in the end, I didn't really learn anything new. This is a CJ requirement but I would avoid this professor if at all possible.
I took a class with her online and it was great! All of her lectures were prerecorded but very informative. She was very willing to help with anything I asked her about including extra material and very clearly cared about hearing all of our opinions and keeping us informed. I left feeling like I had a really strong criminal justice foundation!
Do not take this class. She is the most unorganized teacher I have taken. She posts lectures before the class period but does not go over anything in class. The test is a lockdown browser with a camera included, tracking noise and eye movement. The TA's grade everything. She does not go over papers, makes everything more complicated than it is.
Buntman enjoys when students participate and makes in effort in learning students names and faces even through online classes. I recommend going to office hours. Buntman gives excellent academic, career and extracurricular advice. I consider her tests fair if you watch her weekly modules and use the attendance quizzes to study.
Prof. Buntman is an extremely nice and caring professor. Due to the difficulties of COVID-19, she extended our papers' deadlines by a few days upon request. Her tests are not bad, though you need to take good notes and prepare in order to do well. Her TA's grade everything- meaning the grading on your papers is often questionable. You will survive.
Going to class felt kind of useless but we did have a few interesting conversations. Grade based on 3 exams and 2 papers plus attendance quizzes, none of which were too bad. She seemed disorganized but her TAs were super helpful. You'll do fine as long as you watch the video lectures.
Professor Buntman is such a wonderful professor. Not only is she an experienced professor but she is passionate about what she teaches. While the TAs grade everything, I still really enjoyed the class, especially since the weekly discussions made the class engaging. It's not hard to get a good grade in this class just make sure to study beforehand.
Buntman is really kind and was great about extending deadlines and answering emails. I think she would have been so much better in person. Her classes were extremely unorganized and while they often weren't that important, she would occasionally put an extremely specific question about something said in class on the test.
You couldn't pay me to take this class again. Powerpoints are useless, she expects you to adhere to deadlines but she doesn't. The most disorganized person I've ever met. 3 exams and a 5 part semester-long project on top of 50+ pages of graduate-level reading every class and other assignments. Exams are intentionally impossible, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Not enough characters to fully convey how much I hated this class. I would recommend anybody thinking of taking this class to any class with Dr. Buntman take literally any other class. A foreign language is easier than this class. Dr. Buntman has a complete lack of a grip on reality and it's concerning. Avoid like covid
I've taken 2 classes with Dr. Buntman and she's great. Her class is certainly not easy and she is a very tough grader, but she really cares about giving her students' the best education she can. Be prepared to work hard, but you'll get a lot out of it.
Avoid this class. I can safely say this is the most disorganized courses I have ever seen. Tough grading, unclear lectures, & overall disorganized. TAs do all the grading, there is a months long tough assignment, and tests just don't make sense. If this course is not required for your major don' even think about taking it, and if it is, good luck.
This class is extremely disorganized, and while the professor herself is nice the lectures and readings are nothing like the test and most of the test questions are pure guesswork. If you don't have to take this class don't.
Buntman herself is extremely nice and will work with her students, but her class is very difficult. She & the TAs are all tough graders. The exams were under a lockdown browser and the questions were very abstract. The project was actually the hardest part of the class--super unclear. Only take the class if necessary if you can devote a LOT of time
I would highly recommend avoiding this class if possible. It was extremely unorganized. The TA's for this course are very tough graders despite the lack of clarity given on assignments. The test are also abstract. Grading for the major project was extremely delayed making it hard to coordinate feedback within the following deadline.
TAKE THIS CLASS WITH BUNTMAN. She is an amazing professor and keeps class light and interesting. Grade is based off of 2 5-page papers and 3 in-class exams with an optional final. Exams are simple and if you go to class you will do fine. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss less than 3 classes you will receive 5% added to your overall grade.
Professor Buntman was great! Shes very sweet, funny, and knowledgeable on the subject of criminal justice. There were two research essays and three tests, non-cumulative, with a optional cumulative final to replace a test grade. Tons of extra credit opportunities. I wish I wouldve used office hours more! Can be disorganized sometimes.
This was a pretty easy class. If you go to class you will get an A. All the information is on the powerpoints. Fran is very knowledgeable and engages well with students. There are two essays which are somewhat challenging though. But the tests are a big part of the grade and those are pretty easy. There is not a lot of homework, a few readings
For an intro class, this is a very solid class to take. The class can be disorganized, and reaching the professor and TAs can be difficult at times, but overall the content was interesting. The exams have lots of built in EC, and there are two papers for the class that are pretty difficult due to confusing instructions, but still very doable.
lectures so unorganized and 1st test hit everyone like a truck. doesent explain, and for an "intro" class she expects u to have solid background knowledge of the criminal justice system. tests were so specific so make sure you memorize every word of those two hour lectures :) her TA's were either so rude and obnoxious or just didnt know anything.
Professor Buntman is extremely disorganized and unhelpful. The tests are not difficult, and have built in extra credit. The papers, on the other hand, have complicated directions, and are difficult to do well on. The TAs are great, but there is a clear disconnect in communication between the teaching team. Do not take this class.
Dr. Buntman is by far the worst professor I have had at GW so far. Her grading criteria is arbitrary, and she simply does not inform the TAs of decisions she makes regarding grading or deadlines. What ends up happening is that you will show up to the TAs office hours, they will tell you one thing, and Dr. Buntman will grade you vastly differently.
If you are looking to take SOC 1003, take a different professor. Professor Buntman treats the class as if it's a graduate level class, and expects students to understand high level concepts. She is an extremely tough grader for a 1000 level class, and no matter how much you show up to office hours, it's impossible to do well in her class.
Dr. Buntman has a way of making this class miserable. Lectures are disorganized and slides make no sense. The tests are ok, but very memorization heavy. The papers suck. (Instructions are 11 pages long for a 2-3 page essay) and are also graded insanely harshly. Dr. Buntman has wildly high expectations and it is seemingly impossible to fulfill them
This class was very boring, the lectures were content heavy and the 3 exams had multiple choice and essay questions which were very hard. Prof Butman Is very sweet and knowledgeable, but I would not recommend taking this class unless you are very interested in criminal justice. you need to read a lot and pay very close attention to all lectures.
I would caution others from taking this class with Dr. Buntman. It can be rewarding in gaining a background of the criminal justice system. She does take attendance, and if you don't miss more than 3 classes, you will get 3% added to your grade. However, she gave long, unclear instructions for the papers. The tests cover lots of material.
Fantastic class. Amazing Professor! Lectures are interesting and meaningful. The tests have a lot of opportunity for extra credit. The assignments are very doable and fair!
Kind and engaging. This class is super easy as long as you show up and pay attention. She posts all of her lecture slides. The tests are based directly off the slides and readings and there is a lot of extra credit. She assigns two papers, one more difficult than the other, but if you read the rubric you will do fine. Overall, great!
Very good lecturer and very passionate about criminal justice. Tests covered what was in the lectures, just make sure to study. The readings are important as they also are "fair game" to be on the tests. Slow grader but usually fair in my experience. Some paper instructions unclear but overall very good professor, but be ready for a challenge.
Prof. Buntman is a wonderful professor and is kind when you talk with her. She is obviously very educated on what she talks about and lectures are easy and interesting to listen to. This class is based off of 5 graded assignments. Her two essay rubrics are poorly written and confusing, and make it near impossible to get a good grade.
The actual class was rather boring as it is just Prof. Buntman talking all lecture. The TAs graded our essays extremely difficult and weren't great. The exams themselves weren't awful as long as you studied the powerpoints. I took this class for an easy elective and it was one of my lowest grades, so I don't recommend if you're not into CJ.
If I had not been interested in the material, it would have been difficult for me to actually pay attention during class because of how lecture heavy the course was. She was a good teacher and you could tell she was passionate, but it was sometimes hard to stay engaged.
Structure of course is clear: 3 Exams, Attendance, 2 Papers. Prof herself is disorganized and rambles often (so hard to stay engaged in lecture), but is charming/passionate and willing to help if you approach her. Tests include readings/lecture and can be difficult, but if you study, you'll be fine. Papers are fun. Would recommend.
Do not take her sociology of law class unless it is for credit. Sociology of law is not an easy course at all. She is a stickler. READ THE SYLLABUS thoroughly down to the footnotes. This class should only be taken if it is a requirement. ONLY.
prof. buntman is an extremely knowledgeable and passionate professor, and her TAs are great, but you really have to put the work in to do well in this class (soc of law WID). The tests are super hard and you have to do any and all reading to do remotely well in the class, which requires a lot of outside work. Otherwise, super kind and caring.
This class had so much material crammed into each lecture and was impossible to keep up. Buntman is nice but TAs grade everything and were harsh for no reason. Papers had unreasonable expectations and tests were super difficult.
engaging lecturer and very willing to help with course content/assignments if you ask. attendance isn't technically mandatory, but you get an extra three points onto your grade if you don't miss more than three classes. the exams aren't too difficult-- less about memorizing specific details and more about understanding of overarching concepts
Graded by 4 tests (1 optional) and a paper with 4 parts. Will factor attendance into grade if it's good, i.e., you miss no more than 3 classes. Very caring and sweet person, interesting material, but disorganized as professor. Changed due dates, struggles to provide timely feedback, and wordy PPTs. Class is not difficult but she could be better.
Extremely disorganized professor. It took her two months to return a one page assignment, which was part 1 of our semester long assignment. As a result, everything else was pushed back cramming it all into the last two weeks of class. Her tests her heavily based on readings. Her lectures & ppts are extremely hard to follow. Stay clear at all costs!
Avoid her at all costs! Is always complaining about how busy she is and how many other classes or jobs she as to get stuff done for, and pays no attention to this class. Is a WID but spends no time teaching any writing skills, then expects you to submit perfect assignments. Her tests are hard and grades very tough. Avoid avoid avoid
Buntman is a busy person and it shows - always confused about things, speaks in circles, and doesn't have the time to invest in students. This class was very difficult due to extremely hard tests and perfect expectations with papers. Avoid and take another class if needed. One exceptional WID to explore is Speech and Language Hearing Sciences.
Buntman is a fine person, but she is far overstretched with her different responsibilities in the Sociology department. As a result, she does not give her undergrads her attention or time. Her classes are all lecture, which are usually very confusing and boring. Her tests are extremely hard and the papers are graded at an extremely unfair standard.
For GPA, after reading this site, I tried to transfer out. I was surprisingly pleased by Buntman. I agree that her tests can be vague, but she builds in extra credit. Disorganized but makes up by live grading. She's VERY knowledgable. Pay attention, participate, meet with her when confused, you'll do well. Crazy it's a WID, normal amount of writing.
Buntman is a breath of fresh air, but can also be difficult if you go into the class expecting to breeze through. I did poorly on the first test and her TA suggested I drop the course, I stayed in and went to office hours with her and she was super helpful and insightful. After that single office hours I didn't get below a 90 on any assignment.
Prof. Buntman is an engaging lecturer, though the course content can be challenging. Attendance is mandatory but helpful, and the exams are less about memorization and more about understanding core concepts. unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the lecture slides.
did not like
Your grade is dependent on three tests (70%) and a group project plus an essay (30%). Tests are dependent on HW, videos, slides but they re the most random parts of each. Built in extra credit on tests but if you do bad on tests then just don't take her. You won't learn anything at the end of the day with her.
This was a really good intro class. There are three tests plus a group project that make up most of your grade. Attendance is mandatory but with space for a few missed classes. The tests are fairly easy if you study well, and the material is well organized. The lectures are sometimes unclear and can drag on a bit, but overall pretty solid.
I overall like professor Buntman. She's a very nice person and genuinely seems like she enjoys teaching. Although I took this course for my major, I found it to be very interesting and class I would enjoy taking even if I didn't have to.
If you go to class and study a bit, you will do well. She wants everyone to succeed and genuinely cares about her students. Grading is based on 3 tests, a project, an essay, and an optional final.
Prof. Buntman is a sweet soul. She cares about teaching, and often is very interactive. Her classes are mandatory, but lowk helped me on the tests. The exams are okay ig. ANya (TA) was AMAZING! She would host study sessions for exams and was the one responding to emails. I would rec. doing the readings before exams and reviewing the slides!
She doesn't know what she's talking about and mostly just says what you can read off of her slideshows. Her tests aren't bad if you went over the material and readings. The TA's grade the essay so it's not bad. She's not a "nice" professor to the whole class, but she also doesn't seem super knowledgable- so that doesn't add up.
talks wayy too much, doesn't post lecture slides until she goes through all of them (sometimes takes a couple classes) nice professor, wants you to do well, tests are based off lectures and readings, grades are 3 tests, group project, 1 paper, and an optional final, boosts your grade at the end of the semster if you don't miss more than 3 classes.
Prof. Buntman is really fun. Her tests are pretty easy but the GPAC essay was harder than expected.
Three main quizes and one group project. If you go to office hours and review the quiz she sometimes gives you points back! the weekly hw is important to do as it is part of tests. Very responsive to emails and clearly cares about her students!
3 tests that make up 70% of grade, one essay, one group project. extra credit if you don't miss more than 3 classes and also built into every test. she was knowledgeable but rubrics were sometimes confusing and at times lectures were hard to follow. she's super kind tho and you can tell she wants her students to do well.
Took as an Engineer; Buntman can be disorganized and yaps a lot, but her TAs helped me organize the material for her three tests (70% of grade). I recommend the course if you took AP US Gov. in HS, but prepare to do extra reading she gives out. USE QUIZLET AND HER SLIDES! Tests are NOT cumulative, and extra credit is built in; final is optional.
I would say, I kind of bombed the first test but did way better the next two tests and was able to take the optional final to replace my lowest grade. It's really easy if you study a bit and read the tests she sends, you should be good. Also extra credit is built in test so you have wiggle room. Also try to do your best on the essay and project
Tests are very hard and doesn't help beforehand with what to study. She is very helpful in emails and is accessible which is helpful, but lectures get boring and she's not very good at describing. You won't get a good grade if you aren't constantly keeping up with her readings and current news stuff.
