Assigns readings like its law school.110 pages of reading in a week that an 10 page paper is due. 2 $90 text books were required for the course. Tries to cover way too much material. Doesn't have the papers marked in time for the exam. Starts class early and ends late. Very unclear in her lectures.
AVOID AVOID AVOID at all costs. I must say that she is a very nice person, but BAD teacher. If you want a class where the reading is hard (and many), lectures are even worse to follow and want to lose your hair..by all means take this class. I really wish they would screen their teachers.
cannot be described....avoid her if you can.Take Shuraydi instead!!
tough course but well worth it
Outstanding, enthusiastic and passionate. Yeah, it is a lot of work, but the nature of the course content is tough. I loved the class and looked forward to going every week.
Absolutely avoid at all costs. No idea where they found her but they should give her back. She's way to hard, assigns expensive books, too many reading, marks assignments like we were all PhD students and is impossible to follow during lectures. Class is a waste of time and with the amount spent on the text you can't afford the tutor you'll need
theory always sucks but cachon was able to present information in a manner that was easily understandable. took a hard class and organized it well. used grade aids in teaching (grad house, popular music) and just made it interesting. new teacher so some rough spots but really great overall!! loves WJLP too!!
Loved this class, was so interesting and engaging. Excellent!
was never able to make office hours.....used blackberry often during course presentations
this was the worst prof. i have ever had, she was rude and not very helpfull. if your not buddy buddy with her good luck. take it with prof phipps instead he is way better
Professor Cachon is a great professor! She really cares about her students! She was quite fair, and always willing to help. She made herself available for us, and was compassionate and understanding of the students. I hope she teaches more at the U because she is a great professor!
Good Professor
Great class! Learned so much and found it very interesting.
She is a great professor. Talks a little fast during lectures sometimes, but otherwise she helps to reinforce the readings and make them more understandable. I was a bit worried about how hard the class was going to be, but she made it really enjoyable, and I looked forward to going to class. Shes really great when asking for help with papers too.
I loved her i thought she was super funny... i liked her lectures alot.. there are quizes almost every other week and MUST attend class she does take attendence for 302... the only negative was she marks your essays extremly hard..
Pretty boring class. Always talks about "who is knower and what can be known" (an epistimological theory you WILL know inside and out). I also thought it was rude of her to constantly tell us how hard the final would be. Inflicting fear does not make us study more. Also, I hope you enjoy feminist thought because everything is related to feminism
Professor Cachon is extremely down to earth. Her lectures are sometimes unorganized but nonetheless helpful if you pay attention. I definitely studied hard for her class so it was not an easy A but it was well worth it she is an engaging prof !.. If you visit her during office hours she is of great use, I definitely reccommend her to other students
A coherent prof who cuts to the chase. The only complaints I can think of for this prof was the fact that she issued a quiz re-write due to a handful of students caught cheating (Which was unfair to the rest who studied hard). If you do the readings, you'll do fine in her courses
Really liked her, definitely knows what she is talking about. Sometimes it's difficult to understand what she's saying because she is extremelllyy wordy.. would definitely recommend her, but she does have high expectations, and expect to work hard in her classes!
Lots and Lots of reading!!!! The midterm is broken into two parts, the first part one day and the second part the next. Long exams too!!! Tough prof and has very high expectations of her students. Can be very rude at times as well.
Cachon is an awesome prof. At 8:30 in the morning though, her lectures can be a little overpowering. She talks really fast, and its kind of hard to keep up sometimes. There is a LOT of reading, so if you don't like to read do NOT take a class with her, because you will fail. Overall, shes really great, go to her office hours, shes so nice to talk t
Her critical commentaries are ridiculously unfair and seem to damage your mark unforgiveably. The criteria for them are nebulous at best. She's far too preachy, and goes off on tangents on subjects, which makes her disorganized and difficult to track. Avoid her, and this class. Possibly one of the worst profs I've had the displeasure of having.
She is extremly nice... Her exams are NOT tricky, she will not give you all answers that could be correct... has a good breakdown of the class.. ex. midterm, paper, final.. depending on what class she sometimes has participation (48-302) ... she knows what she is talking about, and if you talk to her and get to know her she is extremly helpful!
Can't control her classroom. Had to rewrite a quiz because she didn't kick out students who were cheating and because too many students didn't write their name on the quiz. Very unorganized. Avoid her!!
Don't listen to all of the bad stuff she says. If you go to class, do the readings, and try your best it will pay off!! She's here to teach and help students - I learnt so much! She values education greatly and its awesome to have someone THAT enthused when teaching. Shes extremely helpful during office hours and a great lady! Loved social movements
Don't listen to all of the bad stuff people say about her. If you go to class, do the readings, and try your best it will pay off!! She's here to teach and help students - I learnt so much! She values education greatly and its awesome to have someone THAT enthused when teaching. Shes extremely helpful during office hours and a great person! Loved so
worst teacher yet, she was very unorganized and failed to control the class. I strongly suggest you avoid her.
loved this class! learned so much, but HELLO you have to do the work.
If you go to class you will do well. There are no tricks in her classes - she is very serious about being there to learn and will kick you out if need be. Overall she is pretty good
Sociology of Families--what an amazing class & prof. She cared so much about the class and making us think. p.s. to the dude who wrote she doesn't care, she has to answer her phone for the special needs office during midterm stupid...some people are not ready for university!!
OK this prof is strict but she respects the classroom setting .... don't come to class if u want to b on facebook... she is clear and not a hard marker...but u need to go to class.....
I cannot believe someone said she cannot control the classroom......THATS CRAZY! She is VERY in control of her class.
I have been reading alot about this prof being disorganized and I found that she was anything but that. I have taken both first and second yr courses with her and found her EXCELLENT. As u get up in yrs of ed you will see the bad teachers and this one is not. She is wildly intelligent but demands a serious classroom environment. REALLY liked her
AMAZING! I am loving this class. Cachon is a great prof., she knows her stuff and cares about the students.
She's very clear and specific with her expectations and overall has a vast amount of knowledge about everything sociology related. Makes terrific use of youtube and other links to illustrate concepts. Exams are challenging, but if you study and pay attention you will do well in her class.
Loved this class! Love this prof!
We just had our first class Tuesday and WOW,I'm impressed. This class really got me thinking.I'm actually excited about sociological theory. I know! Right? Cachon is an engaging prof and knows her stuff.
This teacher is amazing when you go talk to her in her office. She will really do her best to help you with any problem, but will not tolerate your excuses if you never show up in classes and dont do your readings. GO TO Classesss, and DO your reading, she will give extra examples and always hints at potential exam questions.
One of the best profs I've had. She is extremely intelligent and cares about her students. She is very understanding. GO TO HER CLASSES. Her exams are challenging, but if you attend classes, talk to her and do your reading, you should do well. She doesn't try to trick you. She keeps her lectures current too and relates them to things students know
She is a very kind and seemingly caring individual. However, as a professor, you are required to seek your own achievement. As another stated, you should become her buddy. Her critical commentaries are absurdly unfair. Instructions are not clear and grading scheme is only given to TA. Unfathomable amount of information needed for a second year class
I'm in law school because of this Prof. Should be studying now, but started thinking about the undergrad Profs I loved. Trust me, in Cachon you will find an intellectual, challenging and provocative Prof. That is what you need!
Professor Cachon, was very helpful, although her lectures are hard to digest as she speaks so quickly. The critical comentaries are ok but you will get a lot of 'be more specific". This is quite hard to do in 300 words. overall the couse was interesting and she was very helpful.
Fran is the most amazing prof at UWindsor, and I would recommend taking any class she teaches. She is so easy to approach at office hours, and treats every question as important. I can't say enough good things about this prof. Her classes are tough, and you must do all of your work and not fall behind. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AT WHAT SHE DOES.
Worst teacher. Rude in her emails. Does not hell, even when she says she would. Dropped her class because she was so rude to me, and I went to every class and office hours.
She is an amazing prof. She sets her expectations clearly, and demands that her students pay attention and participate (but that's a good thing). She clearly feels passionate about her subject, and it shows in the lectures especially. If you read the material and attend the lectures you'll get a good grade.
Great prof !
Dr. Cachon is GREAT. I am going out of my way to find out what else she teaches. You need to attend class, and do your readings. But hello, its University. She is VERY clear, and you know exactly what will be on her exams. Gives lots of other EASY work so that exams aren't worth too much and you can make up your grade with other things!
Great Professor, really understanding and very caring. She is passionate for what she does and she wants her students to succeed. Her lectures are good. You do have to follow the readings or you would not understand the content, do attend her lectures because on her lectures , she does post questions on her quizzes. She is great!!!!!.
Hard marker
She is an amazing Professor, she is inspirational and intriguing.
she was very personable. Still says hi to me when I see her around campus
I have had Fran in multiple classes and even though ideologically I am of differing opinions often, she is a wonderful Prof. I actively seek out her classes as they are thought provoking and well structured if you want to learn.
Dr. Cachon is amazing! She is very passionate about Sociology and really made me re-examine things I previously took for granted. I found myself leaving class thinking and wanting to discuss course topics with my friends and family. I'm grateful to have had such an dedicated prof.
Dr. Cachon is the epitome of an educator. She is extremely knowledgable and passionate about all things social justice. She has a way of translating her passion to her students. Although not the easiest professor out there, she will push you to your best and you will want to push yourself because you don't want to let her down! She is so passionate
She is a caring person. I have her for two classes now and would love to have her for another. She is such a passionate person when it comes to things she cares about. She is a tough professor and excepts her students to know more than they should, but she really cares about her students understanding what she is teaching. 10/10 would recommend.
Great prof! Helps when you need it but won't baby you. Her classes are interseting and relevant too.
I loved this class and this prof. Seriously one of the best profs at Windsor.
Prof. Cachon is very dedicated and passionate, she means very well and cares for her students deeply. She also throws a ton of information out at students, so doing the readings is really helpful. However, she is incredibly unclear regarding assignment details (and sometimes grading), and midterm/quiz study guides, which led to unnecessary stress.
Cachon challenged me, I learned SO much. This prof changed my views on the world. Not gonna lie, it was a tough class. LOTS of readings and had to really study. But, I can't remember the last time a class impacted me the way Speaking Truth to Power has. I'm just sorry I'm graduating because I would have loved to take more course with Cachon.
Amazing class and professor. Dr. Cachon is excellent, she has taught me so much and I am grateful to have been her student.
I really enjoyed Dr. Cachon's lectures and what I learned in Soc of Families. I find myself thinking lots about all that I learned. Seriously applicable course, changed the way I think about gender relations in families. Cool course and great professor.
Dr. Cachon is amazing! She is an excellent professor who will challenge and inspire. Best prof I've ever had.
I took the Bystander course with Prof Cachon and loved her. Amazingly passionate professor. However, the GA was given full autonomy in marking, which was frustrating since she refused to provide a rubric or marking scheme. My final grade was incorrect and never fixed. But Id still take another one of Prof Cachons classes in a heartbeat.
Dr. Cachon is my favourite professor. I have learned so much from the bystander initiative. The course is amazing and she facilitates it in a way that makes you want to come to class, even when it's heavy and hard! Plus, when I'm not in class I find myself thinking about what we covered. Wanting to learn more. An awesome course and an amazing prof.
One of the few professor's who still has passion for teaching and her students. She allows herself to be a vulnerable, messy, human being just like all her students and in doing so she creates a supportive classroom culture. Taking a course with her is more than an educational experience.
Dr. Cachon is amazing at what she does. She is committed to her students, to preventing sexual violence and helping students become actively engaged in this struggle. I cannot express what this course has meant to me and how transformative the Bystander Initiative has been. So proud to be part of this unique program at the University of Windsor.
Frankie is the nicest and most passionate profs I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She truly cares about her job and her students. That said, I found her instructions for papers/assignments bizarrely vague and the class itself extremely unorganized. Get ready to read a lot and not talk about most of it in class and have off topic discussions.
Cachon is a very caring and enjoys what she does. Her execution of the course however was disorganized and unproductive. I left the course feeling as though I learned more from the textbook than her. Many of the readings were not discussed in class, we watched too many videos, and her grading criteria made it impossible to know what she wanted.
Dr. Cachon is by far my favourite professor. She really cares about all of her students and does whatever it takes to help them achieve their goal. You definitely need to attend class, this class was life changing and I couldn't be happier that I took this course. She is truly an inspiration to all. Her passion and dedication makes class worth it.
One of the best profs I've ever had
Dr. Cachon is truly passionate about sexual violence prevention. She cares deeply about her students and did an amazing job teaching 350. Dr. Cachon is very knowledgeable and an impactful professor. Lots of reading, but well worth it because you will be challenged!
Dr. Cachon is an amazing prof! Highly recommend 3500 and getting involved in the Bystander Initiative. The best experience of my undergrad.
Amazing professor inside and out! Took 3500 and 4500 with her at the University of Windsor and she was an incredible professor & mentor. Thank goodness there are profs like her in the world that make post secondary education transformative & accessible.
I loved this class initially! Everything went down hill with the group project. It is very hard to work with others for something worth so much of your grade, and I believe she is aware of this. The class itself is amazing and Dr. Cachon is very knowledgeable. Unclear grading criteria so you have to work very hard for a good grade in the class.
Very disorganized, will be late for office hours and for marking. Grading criteria is so abstract you have no idea what she's looking for. She's a lovely person, but cannot keep things straight.
I would have to describe Dr Cachon as a very disorganized professor who seems to use every excuse in the book for not marking assignments on time. She seems to have little or no regard for the mental well-being of students who are learning intense subjects in the Bystander Initiative Course.
Dr. Cachon loved to preach mental health and then assign an absurd amount of weekly work. She was disorganized & NEVER got marks back in a timely manner. Most vague & unclear marking guidelines ever. She very effectively ruined the Bystander course/initiative for me. For a class with such important content, it needs a way better professor.
Amazing prof, actually learned a lot and everything was graded fairly with feedback! if you have an opportunity to take her definitely do it!
I like Dr. Cachon and enjoyed the class and the material. However, there are alot of readings and assignments and grading took forever so you were doing the next assignment without any feedback from the previous one.
Dr. Cachon is easily the best prof I've ever had. She's incredibly passionate about what she teaches and cares about her students. Heavy subject matter, so she really emphasized the importance of self care. Lots of reading, but sooo thought-provoking and great class discussions! I only wish I'd found her sooner, sad this was my only class with her.
The course I took with her was unavailable on this site. I would warn people with disabilities to avoid Dr. Cachon. She is certainly friendly, but subscribes to the idea that virtuous work justifies abusive practices. This is especially the case with mental illness. If you take a course with her, be prepared to have to disclose.
I personally loved Dr. Cachon. Her lectures were amazing and you can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches and open to feedback from her students. However, there are alot of readings and grading took a long so you were doing the next assignment without any feedback from the previous one. Be sure to read the articles for the final!
