Honestly, If her class was just FYI kinda attitude, then it would be so educational. But taking notes 24/7, and reviewing through books and what not is just too much for my a$$. Prey for a B and work for your C
She was super easy all you had to do was read the text book. She is great on giving extra credit points. Her class was an easy A if you like the subject and pay attention.
I enjoyed Borella's class. It was relatively easy, and she offered many opportunities for extra credit. She knows what she's talking about and does activities that are fun so that they're memorable and you learn more. We had donuts and coffee in class.
Well, she's very easy, but she has her pet students and pet causes. She's overly impressed with herself. She does not seem to be someone who holds a Ph.D., but someone with a Bachelors degree. There are grammatical errors all over her own website.
She is nice. Her class is really easy to get an A. Just take notes, and listen her class.
Why does this 100% white lady think that she is a Native American?
Take her honors... Her first test is hard, the second is take home or group, and the final is easy (youll find out) Also if you do 20-25 extra credit points you will easily get an A

Thought this class was going to be about various cultures of the present world, however it was just about cultures we don't hear about all too often and about Indians. Isn't a great teacher but a very nice lady. Class isn't very hard but isn't very fun...
easy. pretty interesting facts sometimes, but sometimes really boring. she's really nice though. approachable and don't parade her PHD around and treat community college students like****, like some other professors do
Where did this lady get her PhD.? Did she cheat?
I took this class as a filler, but she really got me excited and interested in Anthropology. She urges students to get involved and do more than just sit in class. She makes anth more easily relatable to modern human cultures. She really knows her stuff.
Prof is really nice, but she preaches a little too much. Class was kinda hard. No homework, just tests that are hard. She covers book, lecture, movies, everything in her tests and never tells you what she will test you on. Offers alot of ec but only 1-2pts each. She cool tho and class is interesting
Dr. Borella is one of the most understanding, knowledgable, humble, and cheerful people I have known. I recommend her to all students to take her class. Her methods are different, but they work. She expects you to read on your own, but in class, it's really interesting discussing recent events.
Intimidating at first, but the class atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. Teaching methods are a little different, but you learn a great deal. The class was easy in a sense that it's interesting, but still academically challenging. Possible to get an A, but also very possible to completely bomb the course. Will walk away a better person.
If you like watching movies and not learning anything, this class is for you. If you're actually interested in learning about human evolution, take somebody else.
Nice teacher with plenty of extra credit opportunities if you tank a test. Biology background is helpful with first exam. Great sense of humor overshadows the boring nature of bio. The Anthropology party is a blast!
Best teacher ever!!! I love her!!!!! Her class is very interesting and fun.
she was a great professor! I strongly recommend her. Her final exam was great! It is a secret!!!hehehe. Take her class and you'll understand what I am saying////Thank you, Dr. Borella for helping me understand this society...
Dr. Borella is a wonderful professor. She is devoted to her students. One can learn alot from the documentaries that she presents in class.
Not a bad class with some interesting ideas presented. She will show a lot of films which are interesting as well. HOWEVER, you have to be blind to politics(which most people at sac are) to see that she is the most liberal person ever.
so easy in the summer. i nver studied and never bought a book and passed with an A in both the class and lab.
easy tests, easy easy easy!just get on her good side from the get go and you'll get an A.
in my opinion, i would not recommand anybody who "actually" wants to learn anthropology to take her class, because she doesn't teach and likes to fed us with lots of video (which i'm kinda glad now after experienced her horrible lectures). But for those of you who likes to get high in class or good at kissing ass, SHE'S DA PERFECT PROFESSOR.
Dr. Borella is enthusiastic about what she teaches. The material can be difficult at times, but she offers plenty of extra credit. I'd recommend her to any student.
She doesnt lecture much.We watch videos every class meeting. The tests are really hard..HARD!! But she offers alot of extra credit at 2 points each. Shes a nice lady. Recommended
u must go to POW Wow ceremoni on ur own time she gives out alot of extra credit by atendin anthro party other events she goes to but its only lil pts power pnt presentation is a must everytime u attend an event have to share with class her tests are very hard! since she doesnt provide lectures so no notes, alot of videos to watch its ok class i gues
She is very cool and understanding. Assignments are easy! She is willing to help you outside of class. She does show a lot of videos but she also does a lot of discussion and not from book! If you like easy teachers who like to have discussions then please take her. POSITIVE ATTITUDE!
lots of extra credit offered. you will love the final exam!!!! 500 pt. system. 2 exams, 1 final, 1 powerpoint presentation, and 1 for participation and attendance. Extra credit for native treats, native indian current event ad., and lots more. be involved and become a D student to B student. Easy Final!!
She makes learning a mandatory subject fun. I learned more from her lab then in the class I took with Lawlor. She knows how to teach which makes her class appear easy. Positive learning experience. Take her over any other.
I look foward to her class.(weird, I know) She is really down to earth and makes learning fun.
in the lab class you look at the physical examples (monkies, human, primates bones) and you have to know their names and know their evolution. I took athropology the previews semester. I suggest you to keep your notes and book from ANTH1. that way is much more easier. i suggest anyone to take her class.
shes sweet. Not much work but when there is work it is challenging. But she offers alot of extra credit. RECOMMENDED
You do not have to read the book... just take excellent notes (even on the videos she shows). There is no busy work... however, the tests are challenging. Plan to stay up a couple nights for these... but the rest of the semester is really chill. Lots of E.C. offered.. but I didn't need it... in essays.. just write about lectures and videos
She is a very nice teach with good personalities. I took her class last semester. I did poorly on those two midterms. However, she offers tons of extra credits that you can easily earn out of the class. One big deal that I am going to talk about is her final is a party. On the final day, each student just brings food and three question. Good!!!!!!!
She did give us tons of opportunities to get extra credits. She did give us difficult exams, but don't feel too bad since she would give us extra credits to make up. Bascily, if you attend all her extra credit events, you will get an A. I ended up with 102%, which was A+++++ in her class.
Borella is fab-u-lous! Amazing. The class was cool and the lab was too. Do all the work and ALL of the extra credit and you will get an A! YAY Dr. Borella!
tests are not easy, lots of extra credits, Easy final, Easy A
Dr.Borella is pretty nice and helpful, shows lots of video in lecture class and is pretty laid back. Need to take GOOD notes in class and also read the books in order to do well on the exams, she gives difficult exams but overall the class was ok..
Very good teacher. helpful in explaining the material, and really good at relating the material to students. take good notes and you'll be fine.
Dr. Borella isnt the most dedicated prof. but her class in VERY interesting! She is laid back -her tests are manageable -3 in total- towards the end she offers high point E.C assignments...a bunch of idiots ended up with an A in her class!!! Lots of PBS evolution videos-No h.w-good class
Very Good Teacher. Very laid back. Must study for test because they are quite challenging.
A+=Come to class, do extra credit and takes notes. B+= come to class do some extra credit. C+= Miss 2 days of class do some extra credit. D= Do no extra credit. F= Not coming to class and no extra credit.
She's very laidback and cares about her students. She doesn't mind dumbasses, just don't be rude and you'll be good. Got A's in both lecture and lab. You must be retarded if you can't pass.
Take Borella if you want to learn NOTHING but her political opinion. this class was a complete waste of my time. the woman is pathetic.
a little strange, but a good instructor plenty of extra credit. She loves bagels. take good notes and read the text book you can make an easy A
She is a great teacher. She expects you to learn the material but is very clear in her teaching and approachable with questions. She likes to make sure everyone is following and understands. She has very open classroom environment. Gives you lots of extra credit chances so you can easily keep a good grade.
she knows her stuff, be carful she brings her personal biases into the class room, and not open to other opinions.
She's a great teacher. She's native american & she has lots of passion about the subject. There's no homework which I think sucks cuz its hard to get points, but she does offer extra credit to different events & theres a mandatory pow wow u must go to which is fun. You watch lots of movies and the book isnt used. 3 tests & 1 presentation in class!
Shes a cool teacher. She has passion for her work cuz shes native american. She doesnt give hw so its harder to get points in that class. She does give extra credit for upcoming events on & off campus. You have to go to a mandatory pow wow which is fun. Only 3 tests & 1 project. Watch movies a lot. Book is never used & its not worth buying.
ANTH 22
Nice lady. Decent class.
Easy class just study and do work sheet should be fine. Nice and Funny prof.
Easy and nice...But she doesn't really lecture! She basically shows movies through the class. But if you're major in anthropology...just don't take her coz she's not serious at all.
Nice class and professor. Class does consist of a lot of movie watching. Test are alright but you need to study. Attend lectures! Everything she says there is basically on the test (it helps more than the review sheets). Extra credit offered. She has a good sense of humor, and free stuff to eat. She can have favorites however.

Dr. Borella's specialty is population genetics, so obviously she knows what she's teaching. She also has "bad days" with her dyslexia, those days she's is less clear than others. For her LAB class just show up everyday and do well on the primate project. Supah Easy!
Lots of extra credit opportunities. Easy to get an A. Decent amount of lectures, but a lot of videos. Nice lady; knows her stuff.
best teacher at sac by far...funny...chilll class...the lab was really easy and fun...shes in a movie that we watched called shlock...
Cool class! nice teacher- lets eat in class and do lots of extra credit. Best summer class ever!
Great teacher...cute for an older lady...funny...makes class interesting...brings donuts to early class and alot of extra credit...didnt take the lab but i heard it was really fun
Great if you like to watch movies and learn nothing
THERE'S NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT DR. BORELLA... SHE'S A GREAT INDIVIDUAL, AND INSTRUCTOR... HER TEACHING METHODS MAY BE DIFFERENT, BUT HEY, TO EACH HIS OWN... THIS CLASS WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE... AND SHE WILL NOT POKE AT YOU TO READ YOUR BOOK, YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT YOURSELF... THERE ARE MANY, MNAY FILMS... AND A FEW LECTURES... =]...
I had her for cultural Anthropology. She is very nice and always provided us with breakfast! Her exams were not to difficult and you rarely get homework. Take her class! It is very eye-opening :]
She is a very nice professor, cares about all her students & makes everyone feel comfortable. Breakfast is served almost every morning for extra credit, one of the many extra credit opportunities she offers. I didnt use my text book once & on the final you get to work with partners. Make sure you take notes on movies bc they are huge part on tests
Great professor! Maybe on the first test, people will probably be shocked at how the test is but it's actually an easy and relaxing class. She gives lots of extra credits and it's not that boring. She's really cool and likes her students a lot! Highly recommended!! =)
I'm glad I took her class. Be respectful and you'll learn a lot and get a good grade. The class mainly consists of watching movies, the tests seem really hard but she gives so much extra credit it's hard not to get an A. She's very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches and it shows.Take this class and be enlightened about N. Americans
I'm not Native American but it bothered me that Dr. Borella uses the term "Indian" to describe her own people. I don't understand why a group of people still uses the incorrect term given to them by someone who helped kill their ancestors, take away their land and identity. It makes no sense to me. I enjoyed her class, but that part irritated me.
She's really nice, and there is breakfast every morning. Easy A as long as you do the extra credit. Extra credit are not limited, you can do as much as you want. Final is extremely easy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Frances is an great person. She's caring loving almost motherly. She loves her students, and is like an ambassador for higher education. She's wonderful, that being said, its difficult to say this because you'll love her, but besides life lessons and lessons about caring you don't learn much about the subject matter. Its easy to get an A.
EXTRA CREDIT IS THE KEY TO THIS CLASS! all she does is show movies and will lecture like 3 times all semester. when you get to the test your like wtffff is this cause all she does is show movies. the movies are intersting though. test are hard cause she never lectures! final is taken with a partner. dont learn much but EXTRA CREDIT IS THE KEY!!!!!
She is awesome Professor. She make things easy, and she know her Anthropology, best professor when it comes to Anthropology....=)
She is so, so fun. And so, so nice. I cannot imagine any other class being this awesome and still have great academic value. I stayed interested in everything from day 1. I learned the names of bones and I loved it. Awesome teacher, take her.
Professor Borella is a very nice person. The class is fun and with unlimited extra credit. Final is combined with first two tests which is extremely easy. There is breakfast everyday, and I love food. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Awesome Professor, such an Inspiration!
She is really easy to understand and follow. She is clear in what she expects and as long as you put in the effort you will get a good grade. The topics and films she brings in are awesome.
Chill teacher. All you do is watch videos and do a few group work from time to time. If it's not watching videos, it's talking about current events and it's really interesting. Once we talked about Lady Gaga for the longest time lol. If you like to eat and chill, this is the class for you.
Dr. Borella really loves to make her students get interested in anthropology. She shows many interesting films and there is always food served during class. Her exams are not hard at all, as long as you study, take good notes and ask her for help. She's such a great person!
Borella sure is a wonderful anthropologist! Her videos that she shows are very interesting. Her exams are pretty difficult, but you should be fine as long as you put in all your effort to get the grade you want. Cool teacher!
She's totally awesome! I always want to learn about anthropology as I began class. Loved her movies she shows and she makes the class really fun. She gives out study guides for us to study on what will be on her exams too. Would love to take her again for another anthropology course, lol. She's simply the best!
She probably lectured 4 times the entire semester and would say she didn't feel like teaching. Instead she'd pop in a boring video. The tests are difficult since she doesn't teach you anything. However, you can cheat your way to an A with RIDICULOUS amounts of extra credit points. If you actually want to learn, don't take her class. Waste of time.
Chill professor! Dr. Borella's ANTH 22 class is very fun! She mostly shows films about other cultures and food is always served in the morning. There are 2 exams, one project and a final (VERY EASY). Take her, you'll learn a lot. Thanks Dr. Borella, you're awesome!
DR. BORELLA IS A GREAT TEACHER, I LEARNED ALOT FROM HER. THE TEST ARE DIFFICULT BUT SHE GIVE PLENTY OF XTRA CREDIT TO HELP WITH YOUR GRADE. YOU DO HAVE TO WORK IN THIS CLASS. THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS BELOW ARE OBVIOUSLY FROM IGNORANT PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT OPEN MINDED. THE VIDEOS ARE TO MAKE THE STUDENTS LEARN NOT RELAX AND PASS TIME.SHES A GREAT PERSON!!
Best teacher ever! Dr. Borella makes anthropology really fun and I can just talk to her for hours, lol. Her films she shows are very interesting and tests are not bad, but you still have to study hard in-order to pass them. She gives us many extra credit opportunities just to help keep your grade up. Take her, you'll learn a lot!
She was an awesome teacher! Even though I fell asleep during some of the videos, I still managed to get an A in the class. Just make sure you participate in class, she likes that! And she lets you do an unlimited amount of extra credit! TAKE HER TAKE HER TAKE HER!
She rarely lectures and shows the class videos instead. Fortunately, the videos are incredibly entertaining and informational. On the downside, you have to teach yourself many topics because a lot of her exam questions are pulled from the textbook. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities, so it can be quite easy to earn an A.
I took Borella for anthro 22 during the winter 2011 & I received a C on the class. I tried very hard on the class & only to get a C. Her tests are extremely hard. Doesn't clarify questions. She has a bad temper!!!!!! Please don't take her!!!!!
2 exams and 1 final, and a ethnography report which u need to interview an elder. Best thing to do is take notes when she lectures. The final is very easy, u only need to bring food and talk about wut u learn in the class. the 2 exams can be hard but it could be easy if u study notes and the study guide. Lots of extra credits
I loved her class! She shows lots of interesting films about anthropology and I believed I learned a lot from her. Her exams are NOT that difficult, but however, you need to study hard just to earn the grade you want. I managed to pass her class with an A. Take her, you'll learn a lot about other cultures.
Average teacher. Shows lots of films. Barely any homework. Group final. Extra credit for bringing breakfast?? Slackers don't expect any A's or B's. If you do the minimal amount of studying required extremely easy class.
The class is difficult for non science majors. Study time and tests moderately difficult. She thinks too highly of herself, so be prepared for that as well. Group presentation and final although there is plenty of extra credit opportunities. Do not what's all the rave about her, but she is aware of this site. Maybe she was rating herself? Not sure.
I had Professor Borella during the summer. The class is not easy like some people have said. The Exams are actually pretty tough. She does not lecture much. But when she does, make sure to take notes, because that info is on the test but NOT in the book. Many interesting films and projects. Got an A in the class.
Took during summer of 2011. First off if anyone fails this class they shouldn't be in college, she offers so much extra credit. Her exams are no joke, take good notes during lectures because 90 percent of what she lectures WILL be in the exam. lots of videos so take a few key notes on what each video is about. videos are exam essay questions.
Best teacher in the world, very smart and helpful, she respect her class and all her students, shes so so so so nice, and also she helps students who dont speak Eng that much, very smart and nice, a lot of extra credit, I took her in the Sum and now in fall and in winter and spring, best teacher ever,,take her taker her take her
I had her in a prevous semester. Lets sum my opinion in the following statement: She is the first (not only) reason why I changed my major to anthropology. Interestoing to talk with and listen to.
this is my sec sem with Dr Frances and also im taking my 3rd class with her in the winter,, she is the best.. very smart and helpfull...she can be your friend..you can tell her anything.. she gives a lot extra credit.. really you will love her..5 starts for her :)
I think she only lectured about 6x out of the entire semester. You basically learn from films - don't get me wrong, they can be quite interesting. If you fail her class, you should be ashamed of being alive since she offers unlimited much extra credit. Just wished she lectured more!
I had Borella for ANTH22 as well and again she delivers a straight forward class. Just do what you're told and you will get your A. Professor Borella is really nice and is a great professor.
I took her for Anthropology 22 and then took her for honors Anthro. Attend class, do the study guides and do as much extra credit you can! EASY A!
She is an amazing teacher. Keeps everything fun, intersting and fresh. Loved her teaching style. Learned a lot. She helped me cement my decision in majoring in Anthropology.
I love heeeeeer.. best teacher ever I took ANATH1 and ANATH22 with her and I am going back for lab next fall she is the best I just love her she is so kind
I took Prof. Borella for both lecture and lab and I found her teaching style to be very very clear. Created a very comfortable and easy going environment to learn and succeed in her class. Very knowledgeable and kind. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
during the beginning of the anthro course her lectures where very interesting but after a couple weeks she got lazy and just showed videos, her class always involves food which makes me think it should of been called ethnic foods, if you want to actually learn something then dont take her, but if you want to waste your time in do it.
Her Native roots make her a great teacher and give a great first hand account of stories. She can be very biased at times though.. just make sure you show up to class. Her exams.. you REALLY need to pay attention during lecture/videos. Most of it comes from there.
She is a great professor when it comes to her stories. But honestly your teaching yourself. You defiently need the book. All her Exams are based off that and barely any questions off the study guide.I expected more out of that class honestly.
kind of easy class total of 3 exams including the final. no hw but a lot of extra credits and trust me you need to do all of them to pass. One oral report and a mandatory Pow Wow you have to go to. Read every chapter because she doesn't teach, every class she puts a boring video to watch. there is free food and coffee in class. Easy A.
I don't know how she received such high reviews on here when it's not well deserved. I posted about her with critical but true reviews only to see them vanish. She's nice on a personal level but when it comes to academics, she expects too much out of you on the material she didn't lecture about.
No excuse for not to pass. However her tests are not that hard, but there's a lot of extra credit.Oral presentation and powwow is required. Those are easy but fun. If you guys want to pass her tests, make sure you read the book and pay attention to the movies because that's basically what she tests you on.
I expected more from her class. Your mostly being taught from the films and the book is a must. All you do is watch films , and i expected her to teach more. Easy class if you study when the midterms and final is near, and theres no quizzes. participation is a must because she adds the points at the end
Does not teach at all. Shows videos all day. The reason why I rated her clarity a 2 is because she doesn't give directions. Hard tests (surprisingly multiple choice is hard) has essay questions on tests too... she's a bad teacher
all I can say is TAKE HER!! TAKE HER!! TAKE HER!! TAKE HER!! she's an ANGEL!! There's always food, so you won't get hungry..Exams can be takehomee or b joined with a partner.. Ther's a lot of extra credit...It is a FUN class.but as a student , do your PART!!
I find it intriguing how those who rated her low, have poor grammar and lack actual conducive comments. Moving on, Borella's class is an easy one-- both Anth22 and Anth30! There are an abundant amount of extra credit work. Annotate the videos and use study groups for exam reviews. This is an easy course. If you need help, ask! She will help you!
At the beginning of the semester I hated the class and really thought I was going to fail the class because I did terrible on my first test. I ended up with a B. Don't let that first test discourage you. The final will be worth it as long as you do your classwork!
+/endless extra credit, impossible to fail, final is take home, so even if you do bad on the midterm like i did you can still get an A. -/will NEVER discuss book, you're to read it on your own and be tested. the videos you watch in class have zero to do with the test, and all you ever do in class is watch videos. loves it if you kiss her ass
i am currently taking Borella for ANTH 1 and i do not like her! she is not very helpful and makes students work independently making the work more complex...i do not recommend her for ANTHro...you're better off taking another science that is not Anthropology!
Learned a lot ! I enjoyed her class, I am surprised by some of the rates she has been receiving. Her classes were always interesting. Be sure to take notes of everything she writes in the board because most likely that's going to be on the exams. && There's always food !
Dr. France Borella is a awesome professor I took three classes with her and receives an A in all three classes. I applied my self I studied. Her teaching has help me to evolve into a better human being! My granddaughter will be attending her Native American class. Her Native American class took me on a journey into my Native American ancestry!
I took her Biological Anthropology class. Her lectures are very entertaining and informative. She's very passionate about anthropology and well-versed in the subject. This makes the whole learning experience a lot of fun. The tests are moderately difficult, but she offers a substantial amount of extra credit, which makes earning an A somewhat easy.
I took her Biological Anthropology class. Her lectures are very entertaining and informative. She's very passionate about anthropology and well-versed in the subject. This makes the whole learning experience a lot of fun. The tests are moderately difficult, but she offers a substantial amount of extra credit, which makes earning an A fairly easy.
Dr Borella is one of the best, shes really nice and kind, very easy and give a lot of extra credits, I took her 4 times, bio anthro, phys anthro, culture anthro and the lab, yes take her.
Great class! Test correspond to the book (make sure to keep up with the reading). Lots of extra credit! Her lectures are great and she shows some great movies! Take her!
Dr. Borella is Divine and a humanitarian as well! Superbly intelligent n compassionate in teaching. I gained a deeper love for my mom from her project. Exams are challenging but I learned so much. Extra credits help and movies are so interesting! Bow in reverence to Dr. Borella!! She is a true example of how love n light is needed in the world!
Take advantage of the extra credit she offers! It will literally make or break your grade at the end of the semester. Took her for Fall semester. Lots of videos, rarely lectures, tests are tough. You must have the book although I had a few classmates who still got by without it. She makes this class seem a lot harder than it actually is.
Her class is hardest one that I have ever had. As other students said that she makes the subject tougher than it should be. I do not suggest her if you just want a class for G.E. or transferring require. You will regret if you do. Try to take another class or other professor instead.
sorry to say that she is really terrible. I do not recommend at all. First time ever that I feel so frustrated to learn one subject. She is not helpful. If you ask what should we study for exams, she must tell you everything. What? Seriously? You are expert of this field, you should know the capacity of human's brain is limited. So disappointed.
I was excited about taking this class because I've heard good things about her from other students. But I never got the wow factor from the class. The class just consisted of films and discussions of the extra credit presentations. Do not recommend this clas. If you choose to take her class, she does offer extra credit, so take advantage of it!!
A good person, but a terrible teacher. Very little lecture and explanation on subjects. She simply shows films and then gives tests that have very little to do with what has been taught in class. If you want to pass I would suggest learning mostly on your own through the book and online media.
This class was half lecturediscussion. The other half was a documentary. This class was chill in my opinion, but I know a few of my fellow peers struggled on their tests. HEADS UP... her tests are all in essay format because she has had problems w cheating. Read the text, make reference to vids, and have examples for her tests.
get ready to be miserable in Borella's fun class of frustration and learning zero nothing on the subject
if i had to give the worst professor award to any professor at mt sac, it would be Dr. Borella that is what she makes students call her and she has zero respect and patience for her students who are not doing well in her class or don't follow specific instructions
Pros: kinda funny, interesting films (PAY attention, cuz they'll be on the test), study guide, free 100 points for being there most of the time, LOTS of EC Cons: REALLY hard grader (I bombed my test cuz my essay wasn't in the intro, body, conclusion format), doesn't lecture that much, expects you to teach yourself, hard test
Dr. B isn't as bad as people make her out to be but she is a hard grader. I was not the brightest in her class but I passed with an A. You HAVE to take those extra credit opportunities, your only hope to pass really. You don't learn much on the anthropology matter since all you want is to pass since it is so hard and she doesn't really help.
Great professor class participation is a must. she gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit.
Borella is so chill, lol. TAKE HER. She is so sweet/ funny. She gives more than enough extra credit and is a fair grader. I only took her for her lab &I passed with an A. She should have a higher rating on here, tbh. Only thing i would say is that she should be more clear in lab because not everyone is taking the lecture with the lab. Overall easy
Really chill professor, took her for winter classes. You just needed to show up and do the work, then leave. She really cares about her students and genuinely wants you to succeed. If you need help, just ask. Easy grader.
2 exams and final, she offers many extra credit
Dr. Borella + Teaches a DIfficult Class Beware. Dr. is what she makes her students call her.
all I remember from this class was watching of pointless videos that had nothing to do with class, and Borella spoon feeding us with extra credit because she felt like it. I did not remember learning anything about Anth1.
Get Ready to learn Nothing about Anthropology and get ready to watch pointless videos of nothing about Anthropology
She gives F- to her students
one of the rudest professor at mt. sac. she has no patience and no respect for anyone. she had no patenice with me when I was in her class three years ago.
So it was an easy A but I didn't learn a thing! She can be very rude to foreign students and is very cocky about her degrees. It was an honors class and all we did was watch movies. She offered up to 50+ extra credit points because she felt like it. If you decide to take her just show up and study for 30 minutes before the test and you'll be fine
This is a good intercession class. Half lecture half film. The lectures are really interesting, but the videos are extremely boring. Offers a lot of extra credit. Homework is to read.
I don't like her she gives extra credit like a piece of candy. it makes her students stupid when half of your grade is made up of extra credit. students piggyback on her extra credit too much.
Took her over the summer, spent half of the class watching videos. Pretty chill. Textbook not really necessary. I didn't read it, but still got As on the test. Test were mainly from her lectures and the videos. So just pay attention and take notes. Lectures are a bit boring, but try to listen. Gives study guides. Tons of easy extra credit.
great professor. she really does care and has interesting lectures. she's a good person and decent professor. sometimes her study guides are vague though. tests are difficult if you don't study. pay attention, take notes and you'll do okay
Professor Borella doesn't even know how to teach she just makes her students watch videos about the lecture and expect that her students will know everything right away. Take another professor if you can
Dr. Borella is one of the very BEST Professors at Mt. Sac I took most of her Antho classes . Tests are not easy you must take notes in her class and actually study. Some lazy students who do not want to work a little to earn the grade will complain. I loved her videos all related to the subject she also feeds you breakfast. Take her shes great!
Professor B has a fun class. She makes everyone feel welcome and teaches with a passion for Anthropology I loved that class would take her again! She is kind, caring and helps you with any questions you may have on the subject. Take her class you will love it! She offers some extra credit all for a good cause such as adopting a monkey to save em.
She's a good kind professor and I putted in the work and read the book. She clearly said from the beginning that she might miss a topic on lecture so we have to read. Hence, a lot of people dislike her for. She's fair and gives a lot of opportunities to pass this class.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Take her for anthropology. Her class fills up quick. Learned so much. Very inspirational. Gives tons of extra credit. Connects with the students, very accessible outside of class.
The WORST professor I've ever met.
She is very rude to the students especially to the foreign students and lack of patient. She even said she is so sick of all the international students in the class! What a awful teacher!!!
I disagree with the angry students who dont like Professor Borella! She teaches with great knowledge and all she asks is that you dont cheat. You are in class to learn! Do your part and she will do hers which is to teach anthropology! Excellent teacher yes there are films that can be boring but class is fun for the most part! loves students!
Her teaching style of horrible. Idk if it was because I took her in the summer but it all just sucks. Her study guide is nothing and I mean NOTHING like the exams. She shows films and talks but literally goes off topic. If you dont know what anthropology is do not take her. Yeah she offers a lot of extra credit but that will barely save you.
She is a chill professor honestly. Yes she has a very strong character like a drill sgt but she wants you guys to learn it thats why. The lab was super easy. You need to buy the workbook for this class to do the homework which is all in class! Finish the hw early and you can leave! Exams weren't hard and the final well lets just say this, no pencil
I took her for the Winter I had to drop her class because she seems to care about students but when you go up to her she comes off very rude! I understand the boundarys of a professor vs a student but nobody should feel belittled and thats exactly how she made me feel. Basically dont get in her way and youll avoid being humiliated by her.
Dr. Borella is an amazing woman! She truly cares about her students and wants you all to pass! Lectures may be boring at times (lol) but if youre always there and you do your work, youll pass. I took her for Anthro + just recently took her for Lab and all I could say is she is an amazing person. Our final was on Valentines Day (truly fun day!!)
Just finished up with this teacher for winter 2019. She is a good instructor provides and encourages nutrience for her students in the morning. Many extra credit opportunities the textbook was a must for me. I basically had very little knowledge of true anthropology before I took this class and ended up passing with a B. Take this class :)
She shows way to manny videos. Never lectures just shows old documentarys. Throws her personal opinion in everything we talk about. The only good thing about her class is FREE FOOD.
Good professor, tries her best to help you pass the class. LOTS of extra credit, but don't think you can get by with just that. You need to try and doing the reading really helps, her testing style is scary at first but her grading scale is clear and if you do the work you'll do fine. Breakfast every day! It was awesome
So freaking hard. Worst professor Ive ever taken. Shes trying everything to make you not to pass the class or test.
Dr. B is super sweet and laid back. LOTS of extra credit, but you need to read the book to do well on the tests. Class is mostly test based and the rest is attendance/participation/hw. Shows lots of movies. Final is done with a partner. Provides breakfast to her students every morning and is very welcoming. Pretty easy A if you put in some effort.
Graded by 3 exams and participation. Many chances of extra credit. Make an effort to go to class! 2 absences are allowed, but more than that and you are docked points. Lots of films, I personally enjoyed them. Our 2nd midterm was a surprise take-home essay, which was great because that's basically a guaranteed A. Probably best teacher I've ever had
Dr.B is an amazing professor she is there for her students and is always there to help you with whatever you need. Tests are all based on the text readings as well as her lectures offers at least 50+ points of extra credit . Breakfast every morning for any student whether you are in the class or not . Took her lab and it the same style.
WORST
Fairly nice person, lousy professor. Wouldnt recommend her at all. Exams arent hard but she randomly gives an essay question. No homework given but lots of EC opportunity. Textbook is required because itll teach you more than her. Study study study.
Yeah, her rating is higher than it should be. All you get is boring, long lectures that honestly put you to sleep. Your grade is based on 3 tests with extra credit. I dreaded this class and she doesn't care to hear her students out. Don't take her. If you don't need anthro, do yourself a favor and take another class.
This course is super easy. You will have questions in films we watched. The exams were the hardest part. There is 1 essay on each exam she requires. I would tell you to take this course when its 6 weeks! Overall, her class was good.
She gives a lot of homework for it to count way less than exams in the grade book. Even if you do all the homework and not do good on a test it will drop your grade bad. She is nice and offers extra credit but it was a tough class.
Winter session (6 weeks) Review: Quizes & Films 2-3 times EACH every week (very outdated films) Ex: Day 1 Quiz/Day 2Film + Discussion (5 pts) of the Film/Day 3 Quiz (and so on) Every Quiz (5 pts) is based on the textbook reading. There are 2 EXAMS (100 points) 1 FINAL 200 Pts Yes, if you do bad on the exams your grade can drop a FULL grade.
Every week you have to watch a video and answer questions. Her test/quizes are mostly essays about the videos you watched so it is difficult to cheat your way through this class, FYI. For this course being an elective (for me) i enjoyed learning about anthro, you get to appreciate animals in a different way. Textbook used & essays dues every week.
Doctor Borella is a lovely woman but her lectures can definitely put you to sleep. This class is extremely lecture heavy and your grade is based on 3 tests with extra credit, so make sure you study. 2/3 exams were open note though I'm not sure if that will change in the future. Only take this class if you're ready to work for your grade!
VERY dependent on test grades. The only grades you get are from 2 exams, a book report, and a final, so studying is a must!! Exams are mult. choice, short answer, and one essay. Lectures are very important & your key to success is the textbook. Lots of films that show up on the exams. Easy final. Borella is a great prof to take for anthropology.
16 weeks packed in 6 weeks was tough (got a B). But she allows you to use notes on exams! Do not take the lab, its a lot of work! She says use the text book but I did not once use the it. The videos are really interesting. Shes really cool and cares, you just have to try. I suggest you take this online, because it seems its easier on there.
She isnt a bad person but maybe this semester she was behind so all the lectures seemed rushed. She also spent very little time explaining what each step we were doing and why.
I enjoyed Dr. Borella as a person but her work ethic is very dated. Rarely visual materials, mostly auditory and heavy lecturing. Also lots of old films which are mostly boring that are on the exam. Not much homework, but there's a book report and only about 2-3 exams, so hit the books if you want to pass.
Don't take this prof, their rating should be lower. They were very condescending to students and your grade is only made up of three exams, and 20 points of extra credit (if you participate for it). Just search for a better prof, because your gpa is not worth risking!
Prof Borella is really kind and warm, but her class is not so much. The textbook and slideshows are long and uninformative. The three exams make up most of your grade, and the questions are nothing like what you learn from the textbook and slideshows. Contrary to what others say, I actually find the old documentaries interesting.
Dr. Borella is a good professor, she cares about her students and provides them with the necessary materials. If you take her be ready to read the chapters from the book she provides. You also will watch videos related to the class and do discussions and quizzes after you watch each video. She is kind and understanding. I highly recommend her.
I took Dr. Borella for the winter class, taking this class was very difficult for me because I work full time, have an autistic child.Dr. Borella was very understandable, and kind. She provides good PowerPoint lectures, and a book that is used in the class, also videos that are used to respond the discussions and quizzes. I highly recommend her.
Professor Borella is a kind soul and a passionate professor, although she may come off as intimidating at first. She made me motivated for the subject of Anthropology and provides numerous opportunities for extra credit. I personally found her lectures intriguing, but the many films she played in class were outdated. Overall, I would recommend her.
Scary the first time I met her, but she warms up quickly. She has a ton of life experience so she is really knowledgeable in the subjects she teaches. Extra credit is like candy on Halloween I had over 100% in both the lab and anth1. You need to put in some effort but it's nothing unreasonable. I'd recommend the class in person. Fun class and Prof!
Her lectures are a bit unclear and majority of class comes from watching old film documentaries. Other than that, she's very caring for her students as to offering breakfast for her morning class. She allows notes for the test and if you attend every lecture, it should be an easy A. Final project wasn't too bad either.
dr. b is super kind and even offers her students food! however, her class is pretty lecture/film heavy and your grade is made up of 3 exams. you can use any kind of notes for the tests and for the final, you can use your two previous exams. attendance is pretty mandatory; after 3 absences, every absence is a 5 point deduction. i passed w a C lol
Professor Borella can seem intimidating at first, but she's actually quite kind and engaging. The class is lecture-heavy, but the material is interesting if you stay focused. Using Unstuckstudy and the free textbook helped me prep for the exams. Overall, a solid class if you put in the effort.
Your grade is comprised of mostly exams. She does a good job explaining what she expects and gives take home exams except the final. She also has food available if you're hungry during her class.
Dr. Borella is an amazing Professor, a lot of note taking, videos, quizzes, and exams. 2 papers. Very clear in given instructions and she is hilarious. She is the most caring professor I have ever had. God bless you Dr.
Professor Borella is funny. The things she said would make me laugh out loud. The class itself I found interesting. A lot of the times we would watch documentaries. The exams were either open note or take home. Easy A. Homework was very light. You can tell she cares a lot about her students and she's a truly kind person.
This class was not too challenging and provided us with many opportunities to obtain extra credit points simply based on participation. The professor is truly kind and would offer us daily with resources, such as food, workshop opportunites, and advice. She can be harsh on the late policy, but ultimately wants you to succeed.
A class can't get much easier than this one. Half the classes are lectures and the other half are watching films. A heavy piece of the grade comes from exams, but exams 1 & 2 are take-home, and the 3rd, the final, is a split between preparing a human phylogeny with a partner, and all multiple choice that you can collaborate on with your partner.
