HORRIBLE!!!! Definently request another teacher
The assigments are very easy - only one problem a week, 2 hours online of studying a week, and replying to posts. She is a bit picky about stupid things and sometimes scatter brained, but tries to be helpful.
shows she interested. Gives help but she is very hard and does not care about failing grades

would be a great teacher if it wasnt for being a rude snob when you asked for help!
While this class is easy you dont learn anything and she's not helpful and there's no point its a waste of money everything is done online no one on one learning the class sucks its a waste of time but she is very nice
I loved Mrs. Hopf. Compared to the other MAT 0024 professors; she was clearly the best. She is there for you as much as a woman with many math classes can be, but her notes are clear and concise, she is willing to help you but it's up to YOU to do the work. She is not there to baby you, but I passed the class with an A. I recommend her by FAR!
Do not take this professor!!!! She is more concerned with her personal life instead of teaching, that is understandable but if you are going to teach something at least make an effort to do so. She requires a lot of group work for an online course, STUPID, your grade will suffer even if it's not your fault. I will stay clear of her classes!!!

shes a great techer. she takes the time to make sure you understand everything
horrible, lecture class is boring i never go and can still get a B, and she does pop quizes sometimes as a way of checking attenedence, for a lecture class!
very boring sometimes:i hate this class regardless of the teacher:this aint even math
Im not one to fall asleep in class but I did everyday in hers. But overall the class is very easy!! You take quizes in small groups, online, and then theres worksheets and pop quizes but she lets you drop the 2 lowest grades in each category and the lowest grade on your exams. Personally tho I didnt like her attitide she seemed like a snob.
At first she seems like a hard professor but as the semester rolls on, you come to like her more and more. She gives extra points sometimes and drops your lowest test grade and 2 lowest quiz grades. SHE SPEAKS ENGLISH!!!!
she made the class redundant and boring, i never went to lecture, and you dont really need to as long as you get the notes from online and study those
Terrible class. Most of the work is easy and the small sessions are a waste of time, and Hopf couldn't care less about anyone during lectures, she rushes through her powerpoints and never answers questions. When the class does poorly on her tests she never gives a curve and the only extra credit was 4 points added to our 1200 point total.
She was really helpful, I passed, and I'm not good in math at all. I hate math, but she really wants her students to pass so she reviews before test and that helped me pass.
This ain't easy but she helps you understand when in a small class setting so muchbetter than any teacher I've ever had. very peppy so be prepared to encounter a chick on the go all the time. But good teacher.
She doesn't care about you as a student. The work isn't that hard and you get a lot of grades dropped but you have to help yourself if you have any problems.
She is a good teacher I'll give her that. Tricky tests so watch out. Small group practically a waste of time. Take my advice if you understand real math (Calculus, Algebra, etc.)DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT take this class! Worst math class in the world, really it is not even math! Dumbest(spell? If this is a word!) math(if you can even call it tha
I HATE math and I suck at it. But I ended up passing this class with flying colors! You do have to apply yourself though, she's not very helpful answering questions in class, but if you visit her before or after she explains it thoroughly making sure you get it. Make sure to do your computer assignments as well (ALEKS and MathZone).
Hard online class- I need to retake it- I hate math and this was not the way to go.
This was the single worst teacher I have EVER had. I passed the class with a B+ but with no help from her. She refused to help with problems encountered in the course and ignored a few emails. If you need a teacher who will be there for you, then dont take her. She even made numerous mistakes on exams. Go figure. Good luck to all.
I dont know what everyone else is talking about, she is a great teacher to me, she helps alot and does explain the work, despite what people have said on here, all the ones that are complaining are probably the ones that failed or didnt go to class
ABSOLUTE WORST CLASS AND TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH THIS TEACHER!
she is very unclear but its one of those classes that if u show up to class , you will do alright and make sure you do all the homework or else there is a good chance you will be re-taking it next semester...i got a B but only because of myself, she was no help at all...TA's cant speak english either..
I thought she was great, helpful, clear, her tests were straight forward and fair. Plenty of room to boost grade with easy online components.
I hated this class. It was boring and annoying. Hopf would say "hello" in as many different languages as she could at the beginning of class (wasting about 30 mins), but then would get pissed when we all left before she was done with the lecture.
I must admit that Prof. Hopf's charisma was a little annoying at times, but other all, she means well. Her teaching is "so-so". I agree that the online assignments are easy and help your grade tremendously. She was a little inconsistent with her grading when it came to clickers and online assignments, but it wasn't so bad. This class is AVERAGE!
I hated this lady, she was insane. She would run out of time, but still make you stay for the stupid clicker quizzes. She told ridiculous stories and wasted time. I hated the class and the teacher. Attendance was necessary, especially in the small groups.
This teacher is okay, she is adjunct. However, she gets confused when she is explaining a problem which is very frustrating in itself. The Teacher teaches one and the ta teaches another method, this is not just some easy math class. Expect to be working alone
She's not bad and all homeworks, worksheets, and Eduspace work is optional in order to drop one test, I didn't need to drop a test so I did none. Very nice, a little weird sometimes though, but I'd rather weird than a mean teacher.
Hopf was a nice lady. I had her online section and i loved the class. Just make sure youre the type of person who is dedicated. The exams were a little harder than expected. Online hw, 2 on campus tests, online tests, group work postings, Project, and optional book hw. Good class
Administers a clicker quiz when class should be over, then penalizes students for leaving for their next class. Yells at students the first 15 minutes of class.. Condensending to students and tells them they just wouldn't get it. My favorite day was when we had the substitute!!!!
Shes a good teacher ill give her that, but it seems shes to ADD in a big auditorium to actually teach. She waste most of the class time telling stories and saying good morn in every lang. And when she notises we have like 15 mins left she crams 30 mins worth of notes and a stupid quiz in. Her Quizes should be on her stories she never taught math..
Online components are important, do them and you will boost your grade easily. Tests vary, just study and you should do okay. The final is actually pretty easy, but go to class because she is excellent at explaining the material.
this woman is mad! she rushes through her notes + lecture because she wastes so much time on other unneccsary stuff. she teaches like an elementary teacher.
when i first got her i hated her but discovered she's a really nice woman. although she can be a bit tough to put up with (treating students like elementary kids) she has good intentions. she's willing to help you and that in my opinion is extremely important.
IF you can teach yourself You'll be fine. The lecture is useless she spends most of the class wasteing time. Than with 5-10 mins left she runs through 45 mins worth of slides TEACHING NOTHING! Easy class if your good at math or you can teach yourself. But if you need to be taught math DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Before you take this course, understand that the subject itself is difficult. If you come to class without even cracking the book you will be completely lost. Mrs. Hopf does her best to explain things, but unless you've done the homework for the next day's lecture, it's a shot in the dark. Do eduspace, and do the bookwork!
She is actually a really good professor. The most effort I have EVER seen a professor put in! She gives tons of examples, posts LOTS of different resources as extra tools for learning. After every major test (there are 3) she even gives back the test and allows students to correct their mistakes for extra credit. Attendance mandatory taken by clic
Good teacher. If you go to class,do eduspace, and go to test reviews you will get a good grade. Only 4 tests incldng final.Uses clickers for attendance.TAs are really good!
okay teacher. not very clear. teaches with powerpoint. very nice lady that wants the best for her students, just is not very good at clarity of the information. if you take this class get Toby Tiller as your TA and you will do well.
DO NOT TAKE!! Good person but a bad teacher
A teacher who really cares. I think that she has very good and interesting lectures. Keys to getting a good grade in this class: do extra problems, do not move on to the next concept until you have mastered the first one, hope for a good TA;Toby Tiller is the best, they make all the difference, care about the class, WORK HARD! Good Luck
A teacher who really cares. I think that she has very good and interesting lectures. Keys to getting a good grade in this class:do extra problems,do not move on to the next concept until you have mastered the first one, hope for a good TA;Toby Tiller is the best, they make all the difference, care about the class,WORK HARD! It's what you put into it!
Not a difficult math class. The lectures get out of control sometimes because she is usually off topic. Attendance counts a lot. Small classes help more than the lectures.
she doesn't know how to teach. Lot of eduspace homework assign!
DO NOT TAKE MATH WITH HER!! If you get a TA thats not retarded you might have a chance at passing. You wont learn anything from her, Small grp is mandatory. All her slides are by some other math teacher and are ALL on the USF math website. Dont not go to lecture, her lecture is on the math website and muuch more helpful to just go there and learn!!
Her T.A.'s teach much more clearly than she does and I really only learned a lot when she was gone and they taught in her place. Get lucky witha good T.A. for your small class or your screwed. Don't take her class. She assigns lots on work on a website called eduspace that she knew had a glitch and gave incorrect grades and she still used it anyway
Online class is the best! You must have discipline. Do not take her in class but online. I loved the online class. If I would have put more time in this class, I could have gotten an "A", even though I suck at math.
She is odd. puting a lot of effort into useless powerpoints. tricks you on tests. spends half of lecture time with announcements like online homework and exam dates. the material is not hard but she makes it difficult to learn anything new or get a good grade.
Horrible teacher, spends most of class talking on irrelevent topics. Doesn't allow make-ups under ANY condition. Drops 1 of the first 3 tests and replaces it with wk pnts, then adds your final and that's your grade! Hope for a good TA! Never would Reccomend this teacher! Makes the easy subject material hard! Take it online!Trick Q's on tests too!
I had her for finite, the trick is to just go to class every day, teach it your self, go to the reviews, and ask alot of questions, and make alot of friends in the class...if you do not like to do any of these things i would not recommend this class.
I take very many online classes and have never had such trouble. The homework does not help; you have 3 chances for the right answer if not, oh well. Her powerpoints are useless w/o the lecture. There is nothing that covers material aside from book.Tests are on Saturday. The first day was on a Saturday and she spent TWO HOURS reviewing the syllabus.
I had her for college algebra. i learned absolutely nothing from her. the TA's are great, and the exams aren't that hard. but the lectures are pretty pointless
Despite what everyone says this is the best teacher I have ever had!She is kind and helpful to anyone that does not disrupt her class and she always stays after the lecture to help anyone who doesn't understand the math. The only downside is you can't make up any tests but she drops your lowest score so if you miss a test, that is your dropped score.
DON'T BUY THE BOOK! This is the worst math teacher Ive had. She doesn't teach well at all. I had to get a tutor to help me pass the class. The good thing is that she drops alot of the low grades in wkshts, clicker ?'s & let's you make up your lowest test grade. If you want to pass, plan on devoting alot of time to studying and practicing problems
she not a bad teacher. She explains. A LOT. That's her only problem. She's CONSTANTLY talking but it's only because she wants to make herself clear. Class reminds me of high school. It's not hard unless u just suck at or hate math.
THIS CLASS WAS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. THE TEACHER I AM SURE IS A BRILLIANT PERSON BUT SHE HAS NO IDEA HOT TO TEACH. ONE DAY SHE WILL TEACH YOU ONE METHOD OF FINDING AN ANSWER AND THEN NEXT SHE TEACHES YOU A DIFFERENT WAY. THE T.A.'S ARE GOOD IF YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THEM. HAVE FUN FAILING THIS CLASS!
I SUCK even at the easiest problems when it comes to math, but in her Finite Math class I managed to get a B+. Despite what some ppl say, she really cares about her students. She explains things thoroughly 4 people like me who dont always get it the first time. If u print out her powerpnts ahead of time and follow along in class, u'll have no prob.
don't do it. teaching is just not her thing. if you have to take her class do so ONLINE. all of "her" material is off of my math lab..and hardly ever did i need the book, it is online anyway.I don't think she is a bad person, just a bad teacher.
I had her online Finite Math and she managed to make a simple class a royal pain. She is a condescending woman who has no idea what it takes to be a good teacher - but she thinks she does. It's like she found out that her class was considered "easy" so she went out of her way to make it hard. Be prepared for meaningless busy work!
I had Professor Hopf for College Algebra. She's an okay professor. She spends the first half of class trying to get the clicker technology to work. So she speeds through the lectures. My Math Lab along with her notes do give you an understanding. Final exam is HARD!!! Be warned. She's a sweet teacher and will help you if you need it.
easiest class i have taken so far1 She does teach it in a way that can be confusing, but it's stuff you have already learned before. i work in an after school program and the 5th graders were learning the exact same things! so there's really no reason to fail. unless u really hate or suck at math...
She means well, but she explains the same things over and over again. I think she would be better in a smaller class. Also, the notes she provides are not that helpful. If it was not for the book I would not be passing the class.
DON'T TAKE! Class mandatory because of clickers. In class should would go over the easy problems and not the hard ones. Never used the book, homework was online. Spent most of class talking about what was planned for the week and not going over material. Very boring class.
DO NOT TAKE. Okay she means well and she is a nice person but her classes are pointless. The only reason why I go is for the clicker grade. Besides that I taught myself from the book. Also she assigns an insane amount of homework and half of it doesnt even relate to the test. Tests are hard homework is easy. DO NOT TAKE
Mrs.Hopf is a very nice lady. Her class is pretty simple too. It does suck cause you have to go to class even when you learn about perimeter just to get the clicker grade, but she does drop 6 of those grades. The homework was way harder than the tests. Her tests were extremely fair. The only thing i didnt like was the statistic project we did at th
She is a very nice teacher although, she has 2 test which are 15% each and then another 4 week assignment that is 15% the exam is 25% the other 15% comes from quizzes, clicker, and homework. there is a lot of that but if you don't do well on the test your average is done! She isn't the best when explaining but she tries.
TERRIBLE. Totally unorganized. Cannot control classroom. Ignores people that ask for help because she is sooo rushed to get through material(because she is so unorganized and can't control the class). Thought it would get better...it didn't. Some people are meant to be teachers...not her. Nice enough, but worst instructor I've had at any level.
WORST MATH PROFESSOR EVER. In fact, don't take ANY clicker class. Clickers will randomly work. And they are vital to 10% of your grade. She has no idea on how to use this stuff either. The tests are going to be tricky, she add extra stuff and previous chapters in there and tell you the night before--maybe. Typical Tenure. Go to HCC.
This class is extremely straightfoward with a day to day sylabus. She drops the six lowest homeworks and six lowest clicker grades (there is only like 26 of them). Friday class you do an easy one page worksheet and review the materail. If the class does poorly on the test, the next test she will put a few questions on there to help boost the grades
Easy class, but the MyMathLab teaches better than she does. So before you go to lecture, review the powerpoint and do the MML for that lecture and you'll be all set. She drops four lowest grades of almost everything except she only drops one test grade I think. Don't miss lectures/quiz days because the quizzes and clicker questions boost grades.
Huge class, but she is always willing to help in her office hours. Make sure you get 100% on all HW on my math lab. Do ALL log in hours for the 4 week review. She drops a few grades, but make sure you do the HW on My math lab BEFORE the worksheets. It really helps on the quiz's every friday. Go to class to boost clicker grade.
Her class is truly designed so you can pass. Do all the homework and the worksheets before the quiz and you'll get an easy A. you don't use the book that much, or at least I never did. SHe drops a couple grades, and if you have get good grades from the quiz, homework and worksheet, then you don't really need clicker points, but they do help a ton!
I've never been so dissatisfied with a professor that i felt the need to warn other classmates about her. rarely use clickers and TA's were useless. The online examples became my teacher. Easy but frustrating.
So shes really nice and tries to satisfy everyone so that can be REALLY annoying, but the class is very easy and definitely designed so you can pass with flying colors. Take it if you want to pass College Algebra.
Prof. Hopf was the best. She is extremely fair and always willing to help. There is a reason her classes have the highest passing rate on exams. I definitely recommend taking her if you can, it was very rewarding and nice to have a class i did not have to worry about. she gives a lot of work but it is so you do great on the tests, always gives
Material isn't too hard. She can be difficult to understand at times and the clicker grades get annoying because then you have to go to class. Overall, I guess I would recommend her.
Good Teacher, not too tough
I took this class online and it was pretty easy. As long as you practice for the exams and do the homework, I don't see how anyone couldn't pass. She always asks how she could be more helpful and follows through with suggestions and was quick to help solve a problem over email. Very nice lady, I definitely recommend the online version.
the lectures are totally pointless bc she puts all her notes online but she does clicker questions almost everyday so you need to go for that. Her tests start out easy but she tries to trick you throughout the whole test! and her reviews totally suck! i only passed this class bc of the friday classes without her! her TA's are more helpful
This is an easy class as long as you go to every single classes because she uses the clicker all the times, and she's a really nice professor. I highly recommend you to do the textbook question before you do the webassign homework, and you will be just fine.
Very good teacher, thoughtful and loves to help people out. If you do the work and ask for help when needed you will do very well. Plenty of extra credit available too, A+ teacher!
I took her online class after failing College Algebra with McAveety. It was all online on MyMathLab aside from a few campus exams. It was easy enough the second time through. Her videos are very straightforward.
Her tests are pretty easy but she's not very good in lecture. Easy to pass even if you don't pay much attention.
She is a great teacher. She makes it fun to learn! She gives clicker questions a lot so don't miss class, but I found the class helpful! I recommend her!
I only took this class because I needed it for FKLs. I am really satisfied. The class is more logical thinking than math, and Ms. Hopf gives you all the tools you need. Sometimes the mandatory attendance is annoying, but you have to go because there are always clicker questions. I would recommend this class and this professor.
Professor Hopf is awesome, I absolutely HATE math and the way the class was set up allowed me to succeed. I wouldn't miss lecture days because those clicker grades will help your final grade. Also, don't not do your homework (it really boosts your grade at the end of the year).
Good professor, I hate math, but she really helped me understand the subject. She cares about how well her students do and is very genuine.
Pretty good lecturer.
She is always happy to help out students! Math is not my subject but I was able to get an A in her class! Highly Recommended!!! TA's are also very helpful! Quizzes are taken online and you can try them 3 times, you get 2 tries for the tests as well!
Cant say i enjoyed the class or the professor she was all over the place and never very helpful. I got an A on my own extra work and merit, hours in the tutoring lab and with a private tutor as well. Also I had a great TA, but Fran was useless.
Super nice lady and very funny! She is kind of crazy and all over the place with her lectures, but the lab and t.a.s are very helpful. Don't buy the textbook, you'll never use it.
She was pretty good! She was a lot like a cheerleader- really wanted her students to do well. She was a little too hung up on the technology though and that didn't help me learn at all. Take this class with MyMathLab and its super easy. (coming from someone that isn't good at math lol)
Attendance is only mandatory if you want to earn clicker points, which are 8% of the final grade. There is an opportunity for extra credit at the end of each chapter as well as for taking a practice final exam. Most of the actual learning occurs through watching her tutorial videos and using the MyMathLab program.
First off, I failed this class. However, it was of MY own doing. I didn't apply myself enough and I gave up around week 12. She was actually one of the better math teachers I've ever had, it can get a little tough to understand the material sometimes but the videos definitely help and the T.A.s are actually very helpful.
She's pretty good. She really wants you to succeed. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND TO THE HOMEWORK. The stuff in college algebra is everything you learned in highschool math, but that doesn't mean you can slack off. I did and as a result I missed out on an A.
Very nice and helpful lady. Attendance is mandatory for clicker points. Homework is easy. Tests were always related to homework but the problems were changed a lot, making them hard. The old tests she post are similar to the actual tests. Definitely study them. Easy B for sure.
She's the sweetest lady ever. And this class is so easy with the smart lab! Attendance is mandatory for clicker points... I slacked off a little bit towards the end which is why I didn't get an A, but I personally think she's the best college algebra teacher at USF. I failed this class last semester with mcwaters but got a B this time around.
I took this class online. Although I have never meet her I can tell she is very kind and is sincerely concerned with her students progress. There is weekly HW and Quizzes! But the bright side is you have 3 attempts on the quizzes. She gives extra credit, provides video, and is very helpful. She is simply cogenial professor.
Great class and very helpful professor. She is excited about teaching and into the material so it makes learning fun. I just took this course over summer and passed easily. Clickers are used every class and Smart Lab is required. Take this professor!
Attendance is really only necessary because of clicker questions. Smart lab is where I learned all of the material, since there was no formal "lecture" in class. Do the MyMathLab and get all the points you can get to help balance out test grades. She gives you her old tests to practice before an exam, so that is helpful. She is a sweet lady.
The professors is good, she tried to make something new in class by making team clicker questions but it was very complicated, these questions were really difficult and can't be solved. The only reason i go to the lecture is the clicker questions grade. All learning happens in Smart Lab. I was thankful i took it on summer for 6 weeks only.
This class was helpful when learning the basics. The lecture is a good guideline to all of the homework and quizzes/tests that are on My Math Lab. Go to class for the clicker questions. She does like to change how she teaches quite frequently to try to accommodate her students, sometimes too frequently though. Don't need the book.
The only reason you show up to the lectures is because clicker questions and group assignments. I honestly haven't learned anything from her in person lectures, but I do learn from her online lectures but mostly through my math lab. I think her lectures are kinda pointless, and it sucks if the people in your group are lazy.
Professor Hopf is a very nice lady and seems like she really wants her students to succeed. Her class is easy, make sure you go to class to earn clicker points!, as well as attend the SMART Lab hours and you should do great. I got an A even though math is my worst subject but the Math Lab Plus program helped a lot!
Fran was very nice, but not very helpful. Most of the class is done on your own (online and with textbook) and her lectures are pretty useless other than for clicker grades. The class is easy if you keep up with the courseload.
Teacher rushed through lectures, didn't finish questions because she assumed the whole class should already know it and we didn't. I got a B in her class because of tutoring, I learned nothing from her.
Mrs. Hopf is a very nice person but she is not a very good teacher. She rushes everything, seems lost sometimes, and honestly does not explain things very well. I would not recommened her class unless you plan on teaching herself. Class is not mandatory but if you go you get Clicker points which go towards your grade.
Take every opportunity you have to find another professor for this course, or take the course online. Under Hopf, you have to endure speedyunhelpful lectures and you basically have to teach yourself... All on top of paying tuition for her class while you do every last bit of work through MyMathLab which costs about $145. Run away. Run FAR away.
I get zero help in this class and math lab sucks.
Hopf is not a good professor. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. Her lectures are pointless as she never actually gets to teaching the material. I only go for clicker points. I would recommend finding a different professor if you aren't naturally good at math or aren't prepared to teach yourself. I'm doing good but I'm working for it.
Not a very good math teacher. If math does not particularly come natural to you, I would suggest not taking Hopf. I have to teach myself almost everything in this class. She easily gets lost explaining things in class.
BRING YOUR ICLICKER. She usually doesn't do them till the end, but you're not there unless you've got it. She talks a lot. But it's Finite so it isn't terrible. She's a little loud and obnoxious. Smart Lab is actually helpful in this course. Print your notes the night before, follow along and chill on yikyak. You'll be fine.
She is horrible at communicating with her students. She never answers emails and when you have a problem she doesn't seem to care. You have a GROUP ONLINE MATH GROUP PROJECT (tell me how that makes any sense) I would definitely recommend NOT taking her because she was the worst teacher I had all Fall.
Will ask 1 clicker question in the last minute of class, her lectures can be confusing, but she seems to be a nice lady. The format of the class is just terrible (hello, Smartlab) but it's not her fault. I would take a different professor for this class.
Very good professor. Her reviews were often like her tests. She also gives you up to 2 extra points on your average by completing practice tests. The only bad thing about this class was that all tests and HW were run through MLP, but all math classes at USF use that program.
Professor Hopf, although occasionally scattered was a great professor. Her reviews for the exams helped me a lot. Redo all your hw & quizzes and you can do fair (B--A-) on the exams and still get an A. The team activities are pointless and sucked but the clickers are nice because they will help your grade. Don't buy the book.
Worst professor I've ever encountered. Just goes to show anyone can be a professor if you own a computer. Everything in the course is on My Labs Plus, and if you're looking for clarification, you might as well youtube it... Most unorganized class in the history of all time. Run for your life
She does a good job of explaining material. Make sure you are in class to learn the work.
I honestly ignored all of the warnings against this professor, i should have listened. Shes a crappy professor, she doesnt help. If you have time managment skills and you can teach yourself, you might do okay. Try to get someone else.
She isn't much of a professor. She treats students like they are complete idiots and she doesn't teach in a way that students will be able to follow. She rambles and holds students 5-10 minutes over. She does clicker questions basically everyday. Isn't impossible to pass, you just have to teach yourself everything.
This professor was helpful in a way that she reminded us every Sunday of what we were to expect in the upcoming week. I have no problem with this professor, I just have a huge problem with the complete BS that is SmartLab. No, you dont learn anything, she doesnt prepare you for the quizzes or the tests, but I mostly blame that on SmartLab.
Lectures are little help. She gives you a worksheet online and asks you to do it before class then just goes over it during lecture. There's group work almost every week. For group work she grades one paper for the whole group. Mandatory 2 hours a week in the SmartLab. Theres a lot on homework done online.
Her class is basically learning everything on your own, although she is very helpful when you need it. Classes are basically a review of what you learned on your own. Nice lady overall. Need to go to classes for clicker grade
DON'T TAKE HER. Requires many math lab hours. She's a very sweet lady but would sometimes confuse even herself with what she was teaching. There are in class group projects that you don't get a heads up for. If you miss too many days of class, you're done for.
She lacks core teaching skills like patience and clarity. In my experiences, she was not able to help me out of class. I ended up teaching myself everything.
I love math but this was ridiculous. The homework was long, ranging from 2 to 4 hours at a time weekly and the quizzes were not any better. The exams were okay I guess, but overall do your weekly lab hours. I missed 2 and is was extremely hard to bring a grade up after that.
She's just super unclear and unhelpful. Don't expect to learn anything while in class. You'll learn more in the smart lab from the "Help Me Solve This" button.
Hopf is just a great teacher!
The structure and reasoning behind how she has the online class set up is a joke. From day one I should have dropped and figured out another class because she requires FOUR assignments for first day attendance. Things are very confusing on what you need to do and what is optional and she's no help clearing things up. Definitely don't take her!
It started of easier as can be for the first two weeks. After that she throws you under the bus. It is sad when the whole class is emailing each other and 25 out of the 26 students are saying they are lost. When I asked her why are her tests so different from the quizzes, hw, and test reviews; she responded I don't write these tests. Stay away!!!
This was my 2nd MAC class with Dr. Hopf. She will avail herself to help you- just don't wait to reach out to her!! She gives many chances for extra credit as well. That said, there was no lecture content from her in this class. (There was in 1105.) MLP, which is part of the course, has helpful videos and Khan academy is always great for clarity.
I like how this professor readily responded to the questions I asked using the MLP feature. That meant alot to me. Since it was online, alot of the work was basically MLP. Easy A if you set time to do the work. This was the 2nd and last time I took MAC1105. Im glad I choose Hopf and online because it shes a good professor and no lectures
There was only one conference per week that lasted 20-30 min. This was not hardly enough to get any questions or concerns in. I'm horrible at math to say the least and i needed extra help even with having a tutor. If you are great at teaching yourself, than it would be ok to take this class but if you need extra help than please take it in person
I loved it. I would definitely take again if I were you.
She will give you random points off for anything just so you dont get a 100. I once emailed her asking for help and I never got a reply. She is the worst professor I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Assignments due everyday that are not helpful and usually do not reflect what is on the test.
Online is by far the smartest way to go. It is almost impossible to fail this class because the online homework, quizzes, practice tests, etc. have multiple attempts, even the exams lol. If you understand the practice exams, you'll be completely fine. Hopf is very speedy when answering emails as well and will try to help as much as she can.
Cares about your grade. If you email her, she will help you directly. Has online sessions and individually calls on you. Explains problems very well
I wouldn't say she's the best professor but also not the worst. Took her online and it was manageable. She offers 0.02 extra credit for each assignment turned in on time and with a grade over 70%. It doesn't seem like much but it is. You can retake her exams twice and all quizzes have unlimited attempts. It's time consuming but really hard to fail.
Overall, the class wasn't hard. There were assignments due almost everyday but they didn't take that long to complete. She makes you do "guided notes" in addition to the homework and quizzes on MLP, which is pointless. The same goes for the discussion boards and mandatory conference calls. I felt like I was back in high school doing busy work.
Professor Hopf was hard to get in contact with, she rarely responded to emails and when she did she was rude. She went against my given accommodations on several occasions. Her lectures are boring and hard to understand. I put in more time in this class than I did in organic chemistry. Terrible professor.
She could review the material more indepthly, videos lack info thats on the homework so must self-teach from Mylab 'help me solve' feature or from the book. Class entails 2-3 sections a week; 2 quizzes/1 homework on MyLab per section. 3 tests per semester. Optional cumulative final. Sometimes makes small math errors. Don't expect indepth teaching.
Horrible professor. Automatically puts in a zero for an optional final that says it wont affect ones grade but in reality it does. Responds in a decent amount of times but is so rude with her responses. Lectures are way to hard to understand/grasp concept. Had to teach myself every through Mylabs question help. Picks what student gets grade rounded
I missed an exam and emailed her 20 mins before the makeup and she let me take it like a true queen. Saved my whole grade, love her.
