She also reviewed for the exams beforehand, so it was easy to get a good grade on them as long as you took notes during the review. Overall, she's a great teacher and a wonderful person.

I thought this would be a boring class, but I was very happy that I took this class. Mrs. Kavalier made this class fun and even taught us a lot of things that other instructors don't like criteria for doing good PowerPoints and really did a great job of helping us understand the reasoning behind why we should do certain things. When I signed up for this class I thought "Uh speech, I hate giving speeches".This class was not what I expected.It was really fun! She even brought us Cupcakes:) She makes your speeches fun to do. You really get to know your classmates which helps with your speeches! She is always there if you need help or just have a quick question!Great teacher!

I was not looking forward to taking Oral Communication but I knew it would be a class that would be helpful to me in the future so I took the challenge. Francis Kavalier made the class very tolerable. She say "you get out of the class what you put into it." This is true!Come to class,do your work and you will be fine.

I really enjoyed taking this class with Professor Kavalier. She is really sweet and I felt I learned more with her then I would have with any other professor. My only complaint is wishing I would have taken the full 16 week course instead of the 8 week course so I could learn more from her. She is truly the BEST professor I have ever had.

A topic that many people overlook was made much more interesting by her teaching, and she really made me appreciate speech class. This professor didn't an excellent good in letting the class known what was expected of them on the first day. She was always willing to answer questions day or night and got back to you in a timely fashion. I really learned alot about myself in this class.

She was a great professor. She is very understanding, but also very clear in what needs done. Her grading is fair; her feedback is helpful. If you do not do well in this class, it is because you didn't try to.

I took oral communications with Frances and she was a great teacher. Just told you exactly what expects out of her students. If you did what she told you and showed up for class you could pass. Takes work out of class but is worth it. And gave lesions can use outside of her class in the real world also.

If you don't need the extra help, don't stay. I loved the examples she gave to help you remember concepts. I wish every instructor was as helpful. I worked for my "A"!

This class taught me a lot of things that will help me in other areas. I especially liked that the speeches had to be about something that the other people in the class would find helpful. So we not only learned things from the book and the instructor, but we also learned from each other. This was my all time favorite class! Great instructor.

Frances was great, I took a 16 week speech class last semester and had to drop it due to the professor. This class is only 8 weeks, and is an easy A. She is understanding when you miss class, and will let you make up speeches the next time. Her grading isn't too harsh, she says she loves to give out A's and she means it. Show up & do the work.

Professor Kavalier is a fantastic instructor. She is very understanding and cares about her students. She says that in this class "we build upon knowledge" so if she can tell that several people in the class didn't do well on an assignment, she will discuss it in length so that you do well on the next one because the work is somewhat related.

Frances is super understanding. I had her for an 8-week speech class and had to miss class the second week due to a family death. She was super understanding and made sure to give let me know that her thoughts and prayers were with me. She allowed me an extension on my assignments that week and let me make everything up. Show up and you"ll do fine.

Frances has got to be by far one of my favorite professors that I have ever had at Hawkeye! She is super down to earth and is very understanding when life situations get in the way. The class is an easy A as long as you give effort/try which she gives plenty of opportunities to do so. I would definitely recommend taking classes with her.

When I told her I wanted to do the assignment but could not meet the deadline, she gave me extra time and did not take points off for late work. I had taken and dropped SPC-101 like 3 times before taking it with Frances. I took it in the half semester hybrid - so all of the tests were online but in class we had group participation points. She grades on the criteria provided and she takes into account that not everyone is a great public speaker. She makes class fun! I highly recommend!

She made giving a speech fun and easy. I thought I wouldn't like the class but I loved it. It helped me for preparing presentations. She was straight forward about the class being a hybrid because if you didn't do the online work you wouldn't pass the class.

You will be happy you signed up with this professor. She WANTS to see you succeed, and she makes it possible for you to do so. But that doesn't mean she is a pushover. If you do the assignments as instructed--and these assignments are NOT difficult--you will be pleased with the results. Follow her directions to a "T", and you will reach your goals.

I appreciated the way she starts getting you used to speaking in front of the class slowly. One of the BEST instructors! This women is phenomenal at what she does! I was absolutely terrified to take speech; so much so that I put it off until my final semester. I now regret not taking it sooner. If you have anxiety forget the class built around that and take it with this instructor instead. She is so passionate, and caring. 100% the best!

This is evidenced by her willingness to answer calls/texts between the hours of 4am and 10pm. She has a passion for public speaking and makes class fun and engaging. I put this class off. Now I wish I took this as one of my first classes. Professor Kavalier taught me so many useful things that I will use. Both in communication and also on life in general. She knows how to motivate students. Everyone loves her class and we all actually looked forward to each class. Of all my classes, this was my favorite.

But you could tell that she would do anything to help people stay on top of their work and to make sure everyone understood their assignments. She was a great teacher.

She is very fast at getting back to you when you have questions. She even went as far to to give out her personal number in case you need help. Her syllabus is well organized and easy to follow. Her instructions are clear and concise. I would highly recommend this professor to anyone who has to take a speech/ oral communications class.

Please disregard any of the negative comments about this professor. She is BEYOND caring and a very excellent professor. She goes a long way to help out and make everything feel easy. She always responds very quickly and even offers her personal cell phone to call her ANYTIME. You really couldn't ask for a better professor. Highly recommend!
