Class should have been called "How to use the HP-10B so you don't have to learn how to do math". She would often go on tangents telling a room full of business majors how all investments were overrated.

Half of the material for the first exam (finance 350) was given on one day of teaching. Almost nothing from the textbook was tested on, contrary to what she said. No way to get notes if you missed a day. She's there to help, but only if you want the same answer she gave in class.

I enjoyed her class. She's a little crazy and talks really loudly, but she keeps it lively. She was a bit unorganized (ie on the list of equations we get for the exam, one of them was written WRONG and I caught the mistake... and shes a prof??) and a little unclear in emails, etc when you ask for help. Compared to other BUS profs, I recommend her.

Must be present to take pop-quizzes. Gives group take-homes, which raise your grade. Her in-class midterms are very hard (confusing M/C questions). Lectures are pretty clear, tries to bring up the reading in class. Goes on lots of tangents (20 mins of each class or so). Not very helpful in explaining confusing concepts.

LOUD, will berate you w/ a smile on her face-has masochistic tendencies. Will often "threaten" w/ pop quizzes if she feels class is being unresponsive(doesn't happen tho). Your grade is determined by midterm and finals- quizzes are small pts comparatively. Will be nice in class "oh email me with your concern" only to not respond or do anything.

Frances is outrageously annoying. She says "mmmkay" like she is straight out of an epsiode of Southpark. Maloy is passionate about economics and knows what she's talking about. Her teaching style is lecturing for the entire class period and writing plenty of notes, which can be messy and isn't for everyone. If econ isn't your strong suit, you're a slow writer, or you like to actually work through examples in class, then this isn't the class for you.

Nowhere as bad as the reviews say. She goes out of her way to hold extra office hours to help students out, and genuinely cares about helping students succeed. If you pay attention in class, this class will be extremely easy. Do the HW problems.

Upper level econ class with an all multiple choice final is ridiculous. She changes originally written answers to be multiple choice so you loose out on partial credit. Same goes for most of the quizzes. She is extremely condescending when you ask her simple questions and goes on long tangents during lectures that waste time.

Frances is definitely a character. She yaps a lot like everyone says, but honestly, she's not that bad of a lecturer. Some of her stories are a bit irrelevant, but they're also kind of helpful to visualize as examples at the same time. Textbooks are unnecessary, she covers everything during lectures. Exams were easy so the curve was pretty bad.

She doesn't get to the point in her lectures. She's not very good at teaching the material either because she gets off topic quick and then also expects everyone to immediately know how to interpret the graphs and doesn't give enough context on how to solve problems and doesn't go step by step, making it difficult to understand.

It seems people are very harsh here. I personally found that attending class and completing assignments were more than enough to prepare me well for exams. While she is a direct communicator (which seems to be off putting for some students), she is extremely open to giving students second chances and taking their concerns about grading seriously.

She's a yapper, lectures can be a little all over the place. She will help you if you come to office hours and does care, but I think the way she explains is too confusing. Older, experienced people often have issues when lecturing because they have so much knowledge in their heads that they assume everyone understands them, which is not the case.

Overexplains spends too much time on proofs instead of teaching the formula, which confuses many. Changed her teaching style this qrtr after bad feedback. Her lectures made no sense. She just babbles about random things that are off-topic. I stopped attending class because I found it to be a waste of time. She always had a lot of information in her lectures that she didn't explain very well, so I had to teach myself the concepts at home through reading the textbook and doing practice problems.

If you took Micro and Macro Econ and the Math 111/112 sequence AT UW you will be fine. Its basically the same exact concepts, but yes, she rambles so bad it can be confusing, and learning the new concepts can be tricky because of this. Still, I never read the textbook and only relied on lectures (recorded yass). What saves her is that she's nice.

Genuinely just one of the worst lecturers I've had at UW. I do think Professor Maloy cares about her students; she's great at responding to emails, and she is always happy to help out. However, her lectures are unbearable as she consistently goes on useless tangents and explains the course material in the most difficult way possible.

Professor Maloy is a kind and caring individual who values the success of all who enter her class room. She sets clear expectations for success in the beginning of the quarter and those who do not follow made that choice. Lectures are not as confusing if you do the reading/attempt the homework before hand. Go to class/office hours, do reading + hw.

This is the worst class I've taken at UW. The instructor seems unprepared, her examples don't match lectures, and practice guides differ completely from quizzes. The course relies only on confusing in‑person exams, and asking for help makes things harder. Avoid if you don't excel at tests or unclear teaching.

Quiz grading is terrible.Take's off points for not mentioning something that wasn't asked, or that you DID mention just not in vocab desired.
