Class is difficult, tests are very difficult, you don't know exactly what to study for. She puts trick questions on the tests, and she's not that nice. If your a very dedicated hardworking student, then you should be okay. But you have to a lot of studying, and some how manage to comprehend what she says during lectures.
Has seating charts and mandatory atten. She dosent prepare you for test and makes it harder than it should be.She is a "female dog" but I think she is nice but nice dosent help in class. She is very unfair but I like the way she teaches cause she repeats herself and thats the way I learn. Just dont take her over the summer or u'll regret.
She's completely unfair, is unclear, rude, and we never have enough time to do the labs. She explains the simplest ideas over and over and skims over the important and complicated ideas like they dont matter. She tests on concepts and not what she teaches. She expects you to know the material, but then expects you to spell your name wrong.
This professor is very clear on what she teaches, Biology is not an easy class if don't study you will do bad no matter what professor you take. I find this professor to be very effective, and she speaks english well, no problem understanding her at all. this is college guys and in this class we need to study more to get a good drades.
Wow, 5's?? So I guess she ranked herself then? DON'T TAKE HER! You will fail. She doesn't give you any time for labs, and doesn't help you at all with them. Everyone in class is scared to even ask sometimes because she's so mean, rude, and condescending. Why? Idk. It's her job to TEACH us, so why are you getting mad when we need help!!! You pretty
You pretty much have to teach yourself. Her tests are meant to lower your grade. the only thing that is easy is the HW, a self-quiz that you can find the answers to in the book. But again, if you plan on understanding the class and passing with a good grade and a good experience and love for Bio... DON'T TAKE HER.
stay away this professor knows her stuff but thinks everyone should know also very hard l love biology doesnt give breaks tests are very hard doesnt use the book but does allow u to do the self quiz at the end of each chapter she explains the easy stuff over and over but doesnt claify the harder things keeps you til the very end of class time also
This course is what you make of it. Don't take it if you expect to do very little work for the semester. You will work hard in the course, and you will do well. Professor Chu is both very helpful and quite knowledgeable about Biology.
Very demanding, but very clear instruction. Constantly informs class of grades and standing, so your grade is no surprise at the end of the class. If you enjoy Biology, take her class.
This class was great! It was not the easiest class but if you studying,take/attend notes in class you will do good. I got an A but i had to work for it (just like every other college class)! She is an amazing professor and really knows her stuff! this is my second time taking this class and the way she teaches makes it real easy to learn!!!
Awesome teacher, really knows her stuff. Makes the class interesting and easy to understand. Homework grammer makes the assignments a little confusing. Very helpful so ask plenty of questions.
Chu is not really that bad. She is a tough teacher, though, so if you don't study then don't expect to pass. Always turn in your homework because it will add up in the end and go to her office to ask questions when you are having a hard time understanding something in class. I tended to not be able to follow her in lecture but understood when talking one on one. She might tease you or be a little rude, but really she appreciates when you come ask her because it shows you are making an effort.
I got an A but I had to earn it.She forces you to learn. You will def leave this class with ample knowledge. It's lecture style from power-point,and she knows her stuff. She moves fast tho.Take advantage of her office hrs bc she wants to help you understand.I also suggest reading the ch after she lectures on it.Strict on lab reports.Take seriously
She was actually kinda easy for me. I guess cuz I grew up with her style of teaching. I had friends who complained a lot about her. Grammar is kinda off. I had an A, cuz I did all my chapter HWs and lab HWs. Gave us only 1 full lab report. She just talks too fast, but if I were you, take advantage of her office hours, she'll definitely help!!
I really don't get the bad reviews on here. Yeah, she expects you to learn the material, but any prof worth their salt should. This has been one the hardest classes I've taken, but for once, I actually feel like I've earned my grade and not just been given it. She is a bit intimidating, though! I don't think she's mean, though- just expects a lot.
She's fair, but yes she's hard. If you think "majors" biology is easy, then you took the wrong class. Her grading is fair, her lectures are informative. If you don't listen/take notes in lecture...forget it. I will admit she does have a tendency to ask "trick" questions, but not enough of them to really affect your grade.
Really knows her stuff. Excellent teacher if you just study. Homework is fairly easy and tests are based on that. She gives hints for whats on tests and good extra credit. She almost begs students to come to her for help and is there for you. Makes you think and I learned a lot from her. Wish I could take more classes from her, just GREAT.
Difficult subject, but great professor! She does go over the material fast because there is so much to cover. But if you have questions she has no problem slowing down or repeating. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. Extremely helpful! Do the chapter homework and study, and you should be fine. Only allowed 2 absences, though. I got an A and would recommend!
The class it self is super hard! There was alot of materials to cover... SHe does provide all the powerpoints and homework before you actually start lecture day 1. She is the best prof very helpful and her office door is always open I HIGHLY recomend her if I could I'd take all my classes with her!!!!
In all honesty i loved this professor. She cares so much about every student if they put in the effort. She is always available in her office, and is willing to help you every step of the way. She has a good sense of humor as well. Her test are very hard, her lab practical is not too tough. This teacher cares, and you will get your moneys worth!
Prof. Chu is hard. But ppl, you need this info if you plan on moving on to Micro, A/P, Biochem, etc. She would be doing a disservice if it were easier. There's a reason biology is hard. I loved her! I feel like I learned what I was supposed to, but I still got an A. And she really, really wants you to come for office hrs.
This class is super hard, her grading is unfair. Unless you get ALL A's on her HW on both lab and lecture you'll be ok if you don't pass the exams. She does not give you a study guide, you have to print out ALL the power points and use them as notes. VERY TIME CONSUMING. STUDY ! the first day of class and don't stop studying.
Professor Chu is a goof professor. She REALLY wants you to know the material. Her class is VERY hard, but if you study and do what your supposed to you can get an A. You will earn it. The only way to get an A is to STUDY A LOT and get a study group together to review.
This can be an intense, stress, inducing class. Expect to use the entire class time and do not miss any classes or you just lost vital information that may hurt you later on. Homework is not that difficult, usually multiple choice. If you don't get consistently good grades then you will suffer. She is a great teacher and is willing to help you.
her tests: supper hard. lab report assignments: too much, supper hard & due every week. her grade: not pair at all. No need textbook. she really wants her students go to her office to ask assist..if u want better grade go to her office...
DON?T TAKE THIS CLASS. If you?re not a morning person, she does not tolerate tardiness. Her tests are ridiculously hard. I mean I normally get good grades and I can?t even keep up with her class. As everybody says, yea, she will help you during her office hours. I never look forward to her class. Hw is easy. She's strict on lab reports. No easy A
DON'T TAKE HER CLASS if you don't want C or D. her grade extremely hard, grading lab report as grading paragraphs (essay) with correctly words those she wants to use on lab report. most of my class got C, D or lower grades so far. she explains lectures & lab experiments not clear, so I have to study with text book or google.. a lots.
She's strict on Lab report and Tests. Not easy A or even if B. Her power points are clear with attractable images, but explain not clear, confused!! having some extra credits such as reading & answering questions for articles she selected on New York Time...
She is terrible. Do not take her. She does not care to help and will tear your lab reports apart in grades. I do not recommend unless you love biology and have a good understanding beforehand.
Do not take this class unless you're Einstein. Moves too fast, labs are harshly graded, and so are tests. Not good at giving directions or examples. She assumes everyone in the class is a bio major, hence the 10pg scientific lab paper due at the end of the course. Save yourself.
Chu is not a bad teacher but her strong persona sometimes comes off as rude. She is extremely strict about attendance and WILL withdraw you. Her powerpoints are are visually appealing HOWEVER most of your notes will be based on what she tells you in class....and she lectures very quickly. I wouldn't recommend her to those who don't like the subject
Her and her class is so ridiculous. Its very time consuming and stressful. Also BEWARE of the big paper due at the end term. Its so useless! She is so strict and rude sometimes. It is not even an easy A or B! She always rush throughout the lecture. She will withdrawal you from the course if your attendance exceeded. If you have chance, stay away!
would not recommend her to anyone to take her class. overall experience with her sucks. she is demeaning and belittling to everyone and seems miserable with her own life and is passed on thru her teaching.
Mrs.Chu is good professor. although she grades lab report so hard, & tests are extremely hard, require students study & understand lectures well, also she gives a lot of extra credits to help your grade higher. she's always in her office hours to help students. P.P lectures are clear, home works are very useful for tests. I got total A (97.16%)
Took her for bio 1 over the summer. Very fast paced lectures, and very very content intense. She doesn't recommend you to read the book, however, I implore you to do so before each lecture... otherwise you will not understand the concepts, and knowing the biological concepts is the most important thing. Final grade was around a 99% or higher.
She is very strict but is an excellent teacher if you study.
I Took Her For Fundamentals Of Biology. She is a very hard teacher but knows what she is talking about. She goes very fast during lectures, so be ready to write things down. She is always willing to help you. Study HARD! Her tests are not easy. Don't need book during class but I used it to study.Labs are pretty challenging as well. Hard Work !!!!!!
Her Bio1 class was easy. Best way to do well in her class is to print out her powerpoint lecture and add notes in the margin. Her tests were quite predictable because they were mainly based on the nongraded hw and the end of the ch quizzes. As long as you do your work and study the hw/ ch quiz, you'll do fine.
This professor is extremely helpful and she defiantly knows her material. She is difficult but if you do all the extra credit there is no reason you should fail. 3 tests and 1 LP. Tests are easy, STUDY YOUR HOMEWORK AND POWERPOINT! I would defiantly take her again. She cares about her students, which is rare!
EXTREMELY HARD. goes to fast with lectures, if you read and make note card you will do well but you have to study study study
One of the best professors I ever had tons of extra credit gives and tell you exactly what you need for the class don't really need the textbook and she has get own lab manual she is more than willing to help you out of class or even out of her office hours honestly the best
I loved her class. She is very organized and gives you all the tools to do well in the class. If you are really interested in biology and not just an easy A this is the professor for you.
You will work your ass off and learn biology--so the course is successful. The wording on some test questions is simply poor. It's not tricky or complicated, just sloppy English (This is NOT meant as a reflection of her ethnicity; she's a biohead, not an English nerd.) I would certainly take one of her courses again.
If you dont wanna sleep, then take her class. She makes you work like Crazy. She has a lot of knowledge, but she expect you to know as much as her. My recomendation, Don't take her! If your major is not Biology you better take someone else. She is a very estrict professor. I didn't like biology before, but now I'm terrified
Provides power points and most print them to take notes on in class(must take good notes, I hardly ever used the book). She's pretty intimidating in class but if you go to her office hours she lets her guard down and is actually nice and helpful! Hw is mandatory, so is attendance, and tests are reused q's from hw and quiz. Big research paper too!
Worst professor I have ever taken!! If you aren't a Bio major, I would not recommend her. Very harsh grader, intimidating, and makes a lot of spelling mistakes that are confusing on exams. No matter how much I studied I couldn't ace anything. No study guide. You're expected to know the book and PowerPoints inside and out. If you like stress, take her
the class is not easy its Biology but professor Chu will do anything to help the students. evene help you outside her office hours if possible. extra opportunities for extra credit. homework is mandatory but if you do it youll do great on test
I took this as a hybrid class so I only attended lab. But professor Chu always made it clear that if we had any questions she was more than happy to answer. During lab if she noticed a student wasn't understanding something, she would help. She is very blunt, and any class like this is hard, but she was always nice and gave a lot of extra credit.:)
I had taken biology before and failed it and i really wish i had taken it with mrs. chu the first time. She is a great teacher, she breaks down every concept so that you understand them. my only complaint is her harsh grading. but honestly life is harsh and shes just preparing you. She comes off very strong and intimidating but overall she's great.
GREAT PROFESSOR! This is a weed out course for life science majors and if you are not passionate about the work and the assignments then it will show. Do the work, read the book.
i took this class as a hybrid class, it was hard but the teacher is very helpful and kind
Take Prof. Chu, you will not regret it. She breaks everything down in a way everyone can learn it. She is super helpful and offers office hours and a student teacher, attend those sessions. She comes off intimidating but she just wants you to pass.
Professor Chu rocks YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT this is by far the best class I've taken at Valencia Professor Chu is very knowledgeable and she cares a lot for her students she would even go outside her office hours to help us and make sure we understand. I wish she could teach more classes
Professor Chu is great. I took biology as a 6 week summer hybrid course. I did biology everyday to keep up!You have to have a really good work ethic and be responsible and on the ball if you want to pass this as a hybrid short summer course. I got an A but believe me I worked for it. Pro Chu will help you if you need it and answer questions.
She is a VERY harsh grader. She will talk the entire length of the class only to confuse you more. Her tests are at the testing center, and homework and textbook is online, which sucks! She also gives tons of homework, and like i said she is a HARSH grader, even if you misspell words she will take off points.Save your money and time, dont take her.
I took this class as a hybrid class. She is very tough on you but if you work hard, it is worth it. I would recommend doing her classes in class because online definitely makes things harder to understand but she is definitely very helpful.
Hard subject Professor Chu will break it down to a level where it seems interesting and you actually learn. LOTS of EXTRA CREDIT so you will get an A if you do what you're supposed to. I loved this class
this class is alot of work, you must complete all of the pre, post labs along with pre and post lectures. which is every week. ALSO, she has test your knowledge which is due after every chapter. i would reccommend her if you are on top of things at all times. she grades her pre and post labs very hard. but overall shes definitely knowledgable.
Prof. Chu was a great professor. The course material is NOT easy, especially for a hybrid class - only 11 of 24 of us remained. She makes you earn your grade but was VERY clear on dates, amount of effort, and was fair at grading. Tests were really hard and I got a D on all of them but did my other work decently well and had a B for my final grade.
I hated this course. I usually love learning about science, even though i am an English major, I think it's interesting. But. All she did was confuse me. And I wasn't the only one. A few people from my class were so fed up with this impossible class they went to THE DEAN to complain. do not reccomend her, unless you want to fail.
You have to work hard for your grade. Especially if you take the hybrid class then your tests include multiple chapters, an average of 3 chapters per test. The tests are difficult but she doesn't make any test worth too much of your grade so you can still do well if you work hard on all the other assignments and study.
Passionate about Biology. Coursework is very intensive and heavy. Much emphasis on the labs, WILL TEST YOUR COMPREHENSION! Be prepared to put a lot of time on studying, make use of extra credit(helped me by half a letter grade). Be very specific on pre-labs/post labs. Many will drop the class/fail, this will test bio majors for these love of bio!
If you are not good at teaching yourself course material, DO NOT TAKE this class as a hybrid! The only thing you will do in class are labs and if there is not a lab, there is no class. The professor is okay and the labs were very interesting but when it came to tests and work outside the class, the class is very difficult.
This is a very challenging course with a lot of work. If You are not an organized person who does not like homework don't take this class. But for those of you who want to learn and understand what biology is all about then take her. She is the best Bio teacher I have ever taken. I was not easy. I had to work for my good grade really hard!
Prof. Chu is extremely tough. She accepts no excuses, doesn't round grades and expects you to know the material. This is by far the toughest professor that I have ever had.
Out 26 only 4 survived in the class. The amount of homework is ridiculous, but the great part is that homework > tests. I got As on all of my h.w assignments and im not joking when i say that i got Ds on my exams and i passed with a B. She has a thing with scaring her students into dropping the course. ignore her because anyone can pass this class
Hands down the best professor at Valencia College quality of a big university yet the notion of a community college. tons of extra credit and super helpful outside of class. I would love to take her class again very knowledgeable person
Professor Chu has to be one of the hardest Professors I have ever had... but I LOVED this woman. She is so passionate about what she teaches. I took this course as a hybrid, which was hard, but it was well worth it. I recommend her to anyone needing to take biology. Do not waste your time with other professors. She has about 3 exams + final.
Pro Chu is the real deal. She knows her stuff and expects you to know it also. Lots of reading but TONS of extra credit. Can not miss class or she'll drop you. Take this class if you really want to learn something. Tests are not graded too heavy which saved me. Don't care much for science but if you do all your work plus extra credit you will pass.
I took her class at 7 am before I had to go to work. The class was amazing overall. It was wonderful now that I look back.
Professor Chu is intelligent . But sometimes I feel that the way she structures her class you end up worrying more about how to weasel your way to a B than learn the Biology. I hate that she constantly tells us "your grade will drop after this". It shouldn't be do homework and get at least a 50 on the test to pass. It should be about learning.
Professor Chu is very sweet and helpful. First day of class she will scare everyone but do NOT give up! If you go to her office hours she will ALWAYS help you!! If you do all of the homework and study you can pass with a B or an A if you do well on the test. I got an A, D, and B on all of my tests and went into the final with a 97! YOU CAN DO IT
Really great professor! Go to her office hours and she will help you figure anything out! Will look over homework and lab papers for correctness. Tests can be hard but if you study the quizzes and do the learn smarts you will do fine. Print out power points and review them! I finished with an A and I didn't think that was going to happen! Take her!
Here's the thing with Prof. Chu. It's a MAJORS class. If you don't get the material down in Bio 1, you will be hating life in Micro, A and P, Genetics an so on. She knows her stuff and if you get an A or B from her, you have a great foundation. Think about it. Do you want future doctors, nurses and pharmacists to have easy Bio classes?
Professor Chu is AMAZING & helpful! I took her summer Hybrid course for Biology and got an A. It is extremely hard but only because it is a tough subject over a condensed time. If you take the hybrid class - watch ALL lecture videos, do the practice pages, complete the learn smart and Test your knowledge, and participate in labs you will get an A.
Lectures are long, online work barely sums what you take on a test, and she'll mark your grade down just for being "too" specific. English isn't her first language so prepare to lose points if you have trouble explaining something on a paper. Her grade outlines are iffy and it's hard to completely understand what she's looking for. Not a good prof.
I took bio 1 hybrid during the summer. It was pretty easy. Alot of work. Definitely meant for someone who takes the time out to study and complete assignments. exams were pretty tough but even if you do bad on the exams you can still pass the class with an A or B if you do every assignment completely.
I am currently still in the class & have an 89.77%. This class is tough but definitely doable. She assigns a lot of HW but at the end of the day it helps boost your grade so much & she lets you email her the assignments before you turn them in & she will email you back with feedback. STUDY THE TK'S FOR ALL YOUR TEST. TK's are your best friend.
I have a BS (seeking 2nd), this is the hardest class Ive ever taken. The workload is unreal, I put in 15hrs a week to get my A. However, Chu makes class interesting and you definitely learn a lot. TKs ARE THE TEST. Online component is time consuming and useless for tests, BUT DOES help you understand the lectures and labs. DO EXTRA CREDIT!!! (easy)
Took Professor Chu for BSC-1010C and loved the class. Definitely learned a lot. Professor Chu is very helpful and kind. If you work hard enough, study, and do all your work, you will be fine. The class it not an easy A but it is doable. Honestly I wish I could take her for all my science classes.
From the very beginning if you don't pay attention you won't pass. Professor Chu talks way too fast and goes on with the lectures even if you are behind. Homework is mandatory, if not you wont pass. Tough grader. Takes points off for the smallest things. Not clear. All labs must be completed.
I took this biology class with another professor my previous semester and totally FAILED. I tried so hard but didn't succeed. I came across professor Chu and decided to take her class. Best decision ive ever made. Theres ALOOOOOT of hw, but in the long run it helps bring you up if you do bad on tests. which FYI are basically her lecture assignments
Professor Chu was a very good teacher. Anyone looking to go into a science major should definitely take this class with her. You actually learn and retain information. There is A LOT to do in this class. It's not an easy A but you can totally get one if you put in effort. She gives a bunch of extra credit, and I would definitely take her again.
Professor Chu is an amazing Biology professor. She is passionate and expects you to do the work to get the grade. If you do all of the work, you really don't have to study because there is SO MUCH WORK it's impossible NOT to retain the information. She gives enough extra credit opportunities to move you a letter grade. Tough, but definitely good.
By far the best professor I've had in college. She is EXTREMELY helpful and always available to her students. Her teaching style is fluent and easy to follow. She offers quite a bit of extra credit (helped get me a decent grade. could've gotten better if i hadn't missed so many assignments). She is a true professional when it comes to the subject.
If you don't take her you're doing yourself wrong. Best biology professor!!!
Doing all of the course assignments will save you if your are a poor test taker like me. She provides you with the perfect study system to excel in her class and any other class. The class is obviously information heavy so it's tough but she makes it interesting.
One of the best professors I've ever taken! She truly cares about your future and the material that shes teaching. The class is not an easy A though. There are assignments due quite frequently. She has a schedule of assignments that are due and will not remind you so that you will have to be responsible for. I would definitely take her again.
By far an amazing professor and knows biology like the back of her hand. All I can say is to use the course calendar and do all of your assignments especially if you're a poor test taker because it will keep your grade up. Lots of extra credit, do it all, it helps.
Professie Chu is the best professor. She gives lots of homeworks but at the end it does help. Also, she is willing to check your work before turning in and helps you in whatever you need, just go to her! I got almost 100 in all my assignments and did all EC which helped alot. I didnt even had to take the final but still went and got a 90 w/o study
She is knows her stuff when it comes to Bio, but the class can be very difficult due to the workload and dedication that has to be put in to keep up. Expect to do LearnSmart modules, Post-Lab reports, Pre-labs, and mini quizzes (after your HW). These will keep you afloat even if you do terrible on tests. TK & Powerpoints Test.
Good teacher, when it comes to teaching. She will constantly tell you that you are going to fail. Knocks points off labs for the smallest things. ALL of her tests are the TKs. Chapter 7/8 test she says is the "hardest" and everyone "WILL fail," but if you take her, dont let her scare you, it is the same as all the other tests, maybe even simpler.
Tough workload but doable. Make sure to do all the xtra credit, all assignments, redo all TKs to get 100(work with your friends for answers). I have failed every test and still have an A in her class. Just make sure to do ALL THE WORK and DONT SKIP CLASS!!! Don't expect her to teach though, she makes you feel dumb when she isn't clear on assignment
This class was pretty tough, straight labs. Make sure to know math equations- powers of 10 and dilution equation. Go to every class because you have a lab notebook to keep all work in and you work with one lab partner. Not many assignments so everything is heavily graded with some xtra credit.
I took the hybrid version of the class and highly recommend it if you have great study habits. Professor Chu is passionate about the subject and a great professor. There is lots of homework, quizzes, prelabs, etc. She gives plenty of opportunity to earn extra credit up front - DO IT! Attendance to labs is mandatory.
Biology1010C is a demanding course. Tons of work, but Professor Chu is there to help. She gives extra credit & office hours, she will help you with anything you ask. There's tk test, SL test, pre-lab & post-lab due every week. 3 chapter test, two exams, lab final, and final. Don't let her scare you, her test are mostly the TK questions. I got 100%.
Awesome professor!! Deep respect for her and her knowledge. Ask anything and she can answer it. Intelligent, respectful, firm, attractive; everything you need in a perfect professor. Helped me get motivated to pass the class. She is a must have in the Science degrees.
Prof Chu is amazing! She has a passion for this subject and that shines through her lectures. I took the hybrid portion. She has video lectures that are very helpful. She offers a generous amount of extra credit, so there is no reason to not ace this class.
Started out worried, ended up inspired. Prof. Chu is honest about the difficulty level of her course. I did hybrid. Don't take this course if you are not serious about learning the material. If you are eager to learn, I highly recommend Prof. Chu. A lot of work. Take adv. of all extra credit. Most imp. material is the PwrPts. Def. take her!!
Lectures are pretty long and boring but the labs are fun/engaging. Make sure to do the extra credit opportunity at the beginning and itll definitely help your final grade towards the end.
I took Prof. Chus hybrid class for BSC1010, she knows her stuff well but assigns a ton of busy homework. 3-4 assignments a week, and none of them are easy and quick assignments. The tests are multiple choice and are pretty tricky, study the TKs and you'll do alright. Tests are only 30% of your grade so if you bomb one, nbd, just do the hw.
Currently taking the class and it's safe to say it's one of the most time consuming and difficult courses I've ever taken. Each week you have a pre-lab, post-lab, lecture, lab, TK and a test due. The tests have a lot of the TK questions on them however there are several questions throw in that I don't even think we went over. Do the extra credit
Take Prof Chu if you can!! Use the resources given and do the extra credit. This class is challenging but doable. Would not recommend taking this course to people who dont work hard bc theres lots of busy work. Be prepared for a pre and post lecture, pre and post lab a TK and test every week. These will give you lots of points to help your grade!
she gives you a lot of work that will compensate if you're a bad test taker, tk, extra credit, pre and post labs, make sure you do well on those. very critical grader. study the Tk for the test and you should be good.
At first her exams can seem overwhelming , but its nearly impossible to fail her class. She is very understanding. If she offered bio2 I would definitely take her. You must do all of the assignments and put in the work if you want a good grade.
Lots of work, but not hard, read and can do it. All test are based off of the practice tests; Again study and you will do fine. She is very knowledgeable, and accessible to any questions. Just have to actually be a student. She has online videos of her face to face lectures for her hybrid course. Want students to pass, but just doesn't give grade
Professor Chu is an awesome teacher! Biology is my absolute worst subject but she really helped me with any questions I had regarding class. This class is not an easy "A", if thats what you are looking for. You MUST put in the time and effort to get a good grade. You have to want it, to get it. I would take her again!! You will learn so much
Professor Chu is awesome. She gives extra credit in the beginning of the semester which helps a lot. Even though the class is hard and time consuming, she is there to help you. She will look over all of your pre/post lab assignments before submission so you can get a 100%. She is there for her students. I took her mixed mode course and I enjoyed it
Took her this fall and she gives a lot of school work but they are all really useful for the test and they count towards your grade. You can easily get all the points for LS and TK. Ask feedback with pre & post labs. Do all tutoring extra credit and surveys. I averaged low B in exam and C in lab prac - didn't need to take the final and still got A
Its obvious that P. Chu is very intelligent and loves Bio, but her class will make you HATE IT. Its hard for the sake of being hardtoo assignment-heavy with time-consuming busy work that gets in the way of actually STUDYING. Online work due daily. Unnecessary. Excessive. Exhausting. Its a test of how much time you have, not if you know Bio.
Great Professor. She gives 40 extra credit points in the beginning, just by attending tutoring sessions for the first month. Take advantage of that because those extra credit points do a lot for your grade. Do your work, get feedback on it and you will pass. She offers office hours that are accessible. She definitely makes Bio easier to grasp.
Her class is way too hard. I took her because of the reviews, but she gives too many assignments which takes a lot of time to do. I can barely study because of them, and before the classs started out with 30 students and now there is only 15. Its too much save yourself and take a different professor
I hate her class so much. Im talking just part time but its feels like Im taking full time with this class!! Her work load is insane and its worth so many points for every assignment. I wanted to withdrawal from her class but its too late for that and this is coming from a straight A student. Its too much to handle
I LOVE her, he is by far one of the best biology professors in East Campus. She has 40 extra credit points and I highly recommend going to tutoring to get those points and she responds quickly to emails. She is passionate about her job and I appreciate that, of course there is a work load because it bio duh. You will not regret taking her!
Chu is an amazing teacher in the sense that she will take you far. If you try your best in her class you will learn a lot. The catch to that is that it will take A LOT of time and hard work. Can't play around or else you'll fall behind. She gives extra credit the first 4 weeks and then you get what you get. She doesn't round grades ... at all.
Excellent teacher, maybe a little extra work compared to other but at the least you can retain some interesting information. WOULD take!
Took it in 8 weeks summer course. Tutoring extra credit in the beginning of the course, DO IT!! Tests has a lot of the questions from the TK's so study them. Our lab practical was online since hybrid. Got D's& F's on all the test but did well on labs so I got a B in the class. Explains labs very fast and yells at u when u do little things wrong.
You can tell she's very passionate but this class is a lot! I am taking hybrid and she made us buy a notebook just to write EVERY SINGLE THING that is already in the lab notebook which we have to buy. She's a very tough grader and gives you a zero even though you wrote something correctly. Less than 25 questions per test. Very Hard!!!
She did not care about her students. She takes her class WAY too seriously and doesnt do enough to help you pass the class. I was sick and had a doctors note. She told me I could make up the assignment only to give me a zero, despite being on the hospital bed and completing the assignment. Not even 5 points for effort. Shes also low key very rude
If I could give this professor a 0 I would. Her class was so ridiculously difficult. she is a tough grader, she is very disrepectful, she does not explain the material good, does not offer any extra credit and does not round your grade at all!!! I have to repeat bio because she would not around my 69.7% to a C-!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL!!!!
Ms Chu is a strict teacher but she wants you to succeed She does not round grades AT ALL, but in the beginning of the semester she gives you the opportunity of extra credit and I'm telling you TAKE IT it helps a lot at the end This is not an easy class and you will have to study a lot but she is always there to help and wants you to pass her class
Took her class online and was one of the easiest A's I have ever received. Although it was a lot of homework and quizzes to do, the grading was not strict and you had multiple chances to get an A on the assignments. Very important you take the extra credit 30 points she offers for showing up to her online office hours, as this will boost your grade
Professor Chu is great! She is easily accessible and the assignments are relatively easy, you are allowed multiple attempts. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND attending zoom lecture help, even if you don't have any confusion about the material still go. I tended to do better on tests when I went like once a week. The extra credit is easy and she explains well.
Chu was easily the best prof I have ever had. The way her course is designed is flawless. She is organized, straightforward, fair on grading, and available if you need clarification on anything. Her lectures are so detailed and easy to understand that I didn't open my book once this semester and passed with an 87%. Seriously, take this prof.
This class was challenging, but its worth it when it comes to Biology. Prof. Chu wants you to know the subjects very well and towards the end, it was very easy. A lot of assignments but it helps. Tip: Study! Study her practice tests and attend to all her zooms, trust me. This course is hard with other courses (take easy ones or none but this)!
Biology is not easy in general. I am at an older age and when back to college. Her class is very helpful and she provides all resources to pass the class. Take the extra credit!!! It helps a lot! She is always there if you feel stuck. Cons: Honorlock - I am an anxious tester, so I don't like it much.
Professor Chu is an excellent teacher! As a student going into the medical field, she gave a solid foundation going forth for science courses. Her class is very difficult, but it is super structured(as an online course). Make sure to read, take notes, and ask questions. She will go over exams with you and she is honestly a super amazing teacher!
As a lazy student this class will make you learn. The labs are very fun and although the tests are not straight forward you will come out of the class knowing a lot that you did not know coming in. There is not much breathing room in terms of assignments but they do help you study so you will at least get a c or more if you study just the basics.
It is a little sad to pay thousands of dollars to go to college and find a professor that doesn't teach you and throws the material at at you to self-teach yourself a biology class.
she expected us to teach ourselves the material and come to class with questions. Her only way of "teaching" was just answering the questions we had. I barely learned a thing in this class, and I really struggled. The assignments barely raise your grade but miss one assignment or do bad on one then your grade will drop significantly.
This was a very difficult class. In the beginning of the course, she provides extra credit opportunity for trying out new learning methods, she also has group discussions and the assignments really help you learn the material well. The tests are difficult so you have to study lots. She is caring and provides zoom schedule to ask questions.
Professor Chu was incredibly accessible and wanted her student to succeed in the class. Her responses were quick, and she was extremely helpful when in need of help or any questions, she responded incredibly fast to her inbox messages. This class has quite a lot of work, but it is very doable. You will learn in this class guaranteed.
Professor Chu is an amazing teacher. It was really easy to learn the information through homework assignments online and was even better to learn through her lectures in class. The downsides is that she gets really frustrated at students during labs if they ask questions provided in the lab manual.
Very online lecture heavy. expects you to learn everything by yourself. Very homework heavy. you will spend at least 2 hours a day on homework every week. 5 assignments due 1st day of class.
If I could give a professor a -100 I would give this professor the one. I am convinced that this professor uses fake reviews or something because when I joined this class it was the most tough class. DO NOT EVER CHOOSE THIS PROFESSOR. IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME I WOULD AND NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AGAIN. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR YOUR LIFE WILL BE HARD!
Professor Chu is very nice and her lectures were very good. You could reach her easily if you have any questions. There are lots of assignments in this class. Every week consist of a lecture with questions, video quiz, pre-lab, post-lab, and a test. The tests are proctored and are worded weirdly.
The reviews under here definitely seem to be a bit harsh because I truly believe she was an excellent teacher. I took this as a "mixed-mode" course so we only met once a week for labs/tests, but all the lectures through soft chalk are very well written and easily understood. Yes there were a LOT of assignments but It is all truly to help you!
If you take the class, you must be ready for a lot of homework. I took her half-term class in the summer and we had about 22 assignments per week, however, they were very easy to do and really useful to learn all the information. There wasn't a final exam, instead, we had 4 exams. She is amazing, you can tell she loves biology, and also very sweet.
Honestly really loved this class! I took it online and I would recommend this professor for everyone. She responds to emails quickly and makes sure you understand all the material. Honorlock was used on exams and they were at times tough but if you do your notes you'll be more than fine! Great lectures and teacher overall.
Professor Chu's class is a challenge, but totally worth it. The workload is heavy, but the lectures and assignments really help you learn the material. Using unstuckstudy and other study tools made a big difference for me. Overall, a great class with a knowledgeable and caring professor.
I really enjoyed professor Chu's class. I took this class mixed-mode, so I was not in class for lectures but the material she provides in place of lectures for online students is very helpful in learning the material. I think her class is pretty easy as long as you are good at taking notes and actually apply yourself to learning the material.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR. do you know that scene in mean girls where regina is writing in her burn book about herself??? YEAH THATS IT.
Alot of people complain more about the course than the actual professor. The class is hard but she's a great professor even made a whole new zoom session just for me to ask questions. Mostly reading if you're doing online and there are about 5 group assignments that are graded pretty harshly in my opinion.
She was a nice professor and wanted to help. But the workload is too much if you are taking other classes. With tests you have to use honor-lock and can't use your notes. She graded a group projects heavily. A mandatory zoom meeting is also needed with your camera on at all times.
Stay away if you know whats good for you.
She's always willing to help but there was SO MUCH work!!!! You get overwhelmed with so much. This class made me stress out by so many deadlines. Do yourself a favor and choose a different prof.
Professor Chu had great lectures in video format but there was SO MUCH WORK. Like something due every other day. It helped to an extent but this isn't the only class people take and it gets too much quick. Sometimes the online lectures were confusing or poorly written. She is eager to help you if you need help. She's nice, the class is just a lot.
If you're not willing to work your @$$ off, read for hours every weekend, learn gel electrophoresis on week 2, learn to culture transformed glow-in-the-dark E. coli for Halloween, and get delicious biochem and molecular bio teasers each week, don't take her class. Ask her about her vegetable garden!
My experience in bio class was not the best because there was so much work to do. There was a total of 10 assignments due the same week, some of them were on different days. Her lectures were heavy, a lot of information. I never passed any of her exams and test, before lab you had less than 30 minutes to take a test and then lab was so boring.
Very well informed professor but lots of homework for this class. At the start of the class she includes a "how to use ai" assignment where she teaches you how you can use AI as a tool for learning instead of just getting answers off it which is nice. Weekly chapters of homework that coincide with more homework ontop of all the lab homework.
She is great! I did get a C but I could've done way better. She has Pre lab and Post lab homework and homework in general that are worth more than the quizzes. If you fail the quizzes and do great on the homework you'll pass her class. I highly recommend taking her class. She was caring and very supportive.
