She's not bad but she's very boring and has a hard time with english
No Comments
She didn't explain things well at all. I was confused about course content and my grade for the entire semester. She's nice but that's about it.
nothing is clear...nothing. The syllabus is vague, the assignments are vague, marking scheme:vague, lectures:vague. Nice woman though... but still
ONe of the worst profs. Worst take-home exam of all time. There was no question, albeit, a phantom question which she would not clarify. How are you suppose to do good when you don't know what the question is. Terrible preparation. I would advise against taking a course with her. She is not knowledgeable!
She said she made changes b/c of students' feedback, and she really did this summer. She explained the takehome essays in great detail, answered ALL questions. Listen to her essay/exam tips - write it all down. The topics are interesting and make you think about the world and yourself. Only takehome essays and quizzes.
At first she is a great teacher!!! I was so excited about her class!! Untill the first essay.. lot of people struggled to write it, and some of them even cried because of it! Very confusing, hard time with english, no moodle notes at all, and very strict. Such a great woman, but not such a good teacher for 1st year courses..
Had a really hard time following the lectures due to her french accent. All over the place when explaining the topics well. I feel like I do not know what the course was even about.
I really enjoyed Tremblay, and I do agree that at times she could be vague but she did take in the feedback of the class, and is an effective teacher. I strongly recommend her, and enjoyed her class.
A really great teacher! Very patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and a sense of humor too. And did somebody say French accent? Her English is nearly perfect! She is one of the few teachers that I will actually try to follow around to any class she teaches. All in all, a really good course
Awful!! I got out of her class SO FAST. Very passionate, but completely chaotic. Admitted her first lectures were bad because she was working on her other things. I felt like I learnt nothing the entire time I was in her class. I would AVOID her at all costs. She needs to learn some major organizational skills.
Francine can be rather vague at times when explaining course material. She focuses on new important ideas rather than ones already transferred to the student through the assigned readings. Read the material, highlight important theories, reference your work and you will pass!
OMG!Never seen a teacher who cares about her students so much! She uses her personal time to give students advices about how to learn efficiently. She gives chances for students to rewrite the quizes because she indicates that the purpose to give quizes is to let students learn, not get grades.Impressed by her passion! LOVE U, MISS TREMBLAY!
if u're not an "A" student but aim to become one in the future, Tremblay can actually make ur dream comes true. She teaches u how to study, how to hit higher, how to value urself, and how to become a successful person in the society. She's not just a prof, she's a friend! If u truly wanna learn, she has a lot for u to learn from, and it's FREE!
Indeed, she is a nice instructor. Not only does she familiar with her teaching material but also helps students learn how to learn. She is not a hard marker, but reading is an important thing if you wanna get a satisfactory grade from her. Enjoy her lectures and she must be helpful!
Amazing teacher and personality. Does not believe in MTC so be prepared to write. Down to earth and always willing to help. French accent, so what? She's French and she's very approachable. Ask her questions and she explains patiently. She has a very good sense of humour!! Got an A
Tremblay has a remarkable passion for teaching the material and genuine interest in helping students understand the material in depth.
Excellent and passionate instructor. Has high expectations of students, but is exceptionally accessible. Students should not expect to do well if they do not complete all of the readings, but struggling students will have no problem receiving all of the extra help they might need.
This is my second time to take with Ms. Tremblay. Indeed, 300-Level is somewhat harder than 200-Level. However, she tries her best to make abstract theories become more concrete. Although she is very demanding when marking our quizzes and papers, she provides us many opportunities to improve our writing stategies. Overall, she is highly recommended

SHE IS AMAZING!!!
She is an approachable, kind, helpful, passionate, and knowledgeable part-time professor. She also cares her students because she gives students who fail the quiz another chance to write a make-up quiz. She tries to help students reduce their stress level. In the end, I got an A on SOCI 262 because of her unique teaching approach! Highly recommend!
Love this professor so much due her unique teaching approach!
Her quizes & exams arent that hard if you study at a minimum. You don't even need to learn by heart. I love her unique teaching skills. She definitely reduced my stress! I loved coming to her class every week! AMAZING! Highly recommended. I got an A.
Since she was the first time teaching SOCI 375, she did lack teaching experience. However, she had lots of work backgrounds on sex workers relevant to this course. Although she was very approachable, passionate, and knowledgeable, she was a tough grader. She had high expectations on her students by pushing them to think in a critical and deep way.
As a summer course, this one was pretty challenging because Dr. Tremblay asked us to finish tons of chapter readings per week. Her quizzes were open-book, but were essay-typed questions within an hour. Her midterm and final essays were very tricky, asking us to use the textbook, lecture notes, documentaries, and outside sources. I got an A-!
I've had her for 2 others classes and keep wanting to go back her. She is so passionate and an incredible prof. By far my fave prof ever. If you don't understand she will do everything possible to make you understand. Going to class is important bc she lectures so much useful info that you'll use in your work. Love her.
AMAZING TEACHER. WOULD LOVE TO TAKE HER AGAIN. EXAMS ARE EASY. VERY HELPFUL TEACHER, VERY APPROACHABLE . A MUST TAKE TEAHER
RECOMMENDED!!! This woman is do dedicated to her work, it's almost contagious. For a class like sex work, she pushed us to think deep and push aside nonsense stereotypes. Amazing woman and it's sad that I cannot take anymore soci classes. TAKE HER!!!
that was my 2nd time taking her as a teacher! She is very nice and approachable but she really cannot teach; she is all over the place with her lectures! i hated her class! Nothing is clear with her! I will never take her again PERIOD!
I personally do not highly recommend this professor, though she knows a lot about the subject matter that is sex work and society. Her lectures were utterly unprepared and disorganized. Her quiz and requirements of papers were confused. Her grading system was vague. Although she is a very nice and patient person, I am disappointed taking with her.
She is very nice. Her lectures are mostly just her talking and getting people's opinion. She knows a lot on her subject. Must read coursepack because class is a joke. TOUGH GRADER.
To be honest, Dr. Tremblay is extremely nice, approachable, patient, and passionate. She knows everything about the subject matter. However, her lectures were utterly chaotic and disorganized. The way she graded us was completely confused and pointless. Moreover, she assigned many pages of weekly readings, which seemed challenging to finish them.
Oh, my god! This professor is poor at explaining things in a clear way. She expects too much from her students, though she is always there for helping those who have difficulty understanding the course materials. The way she grades her students is also extremely confused and somewhat unfair. I worked hard, but I am very unhappy with my final grade!
Honestly, she was very, very approachable and is super passionate about her subject. However, her lectures are very disorganized and her grading doesn't make sense. I worked so hard and got As on most assignments yet I got a C+. Very confusing
She was animated. I did fairly well in the class, but a study group to go over the course material was critical. Interesting lecturer and interesting material. However she is not very approachable.
Personally, I do not highly recommend taking this course with Francine. Her lectures were not organized at all. The way she graded us was completely tough. There were three texts and about ten additional articles required for this course. I considered the work amount a lot. She was a super nice woman. Meanwhile, she was also a grade killer. Avoid!
Positive side: Francine is approachable and patient. She shows her fundamental respect for every student, and also encourages class discussion. Negative side: Her explanation is not clear. Her lectures are like a shambles. She sets extremely high standards and expectations for papers (literature review). Her evaluation method is very confusing!
Yes, she is approachable BUT she never answers your questions directly. She will answer it in such a way that (1) you don't have a clear-cut answer and (2) you have a thousand more questions. Her lectures were poorly organized and all over the place. I would never take her again.
Very passionate about what she does! Can seem to have very high expectations, but she marks reasonably. All assignments were relatively easy, and she is willing to meet with students to have questions. Nice woman and a good teacher!
Prof. Tremblay is approachable, very knowledgable and progressive in her thinking. She makes herself available to students through email and office hours. so if you're struggling, go and see her. she'll help you. If you do your readings and think about the subject matter rather than memorizing, you'll do well.
Engaging prof, interesting material. A really good intro course to sociology. If you do the readings, you will know the concepts and vocab well enough to succeed. Lots of movies are watched during class. My term: 0 A+ 2 A 13 A- 6 B+ 20 B 3 B- 17 C+ 13 C 4 C- 0 D+ 0 D 1 D- 11 F. Overall I highly recommend this course to anyone.
interesting class, although a little difficult. Teacher assumes that we already know everything. midterm and final both consisted of a lit review which was confusing for many. The teacher does help clarify and is available through email
When she handed the midterms back, she asked everyone to review her own corrections in order for us to make sure that our answers were well corrected. Ok, how is this suppose to be our job? Are we not suppose to trust our professors with our work? I question her competence on some level, and it's not like she's new in the field...
My favourite teacher at Concordia hands down! Very approachable and understanding. She is always available for her students and grades fairly. Fully recommend her!
i loved her!!! she knows her stuff and tries to make everyone understand and wants the class to interact. She's not easy and u have to work for your grade. no slides but once u take her you wont regret it.great teacher!!
This teacher is the best! She is very helpful and approchable. You have to do your readings in order to have good grades and it's take home midterm and final! What else can you ask for. If i could I would take all my socio classes with her.
Best teacher I've ever taken. Was sick for a while and she was extremely accommodating. Her lectures are a bit all over the place but she emphasizes key concepts and is ALWAYS available to clarify. I've taken 3 classes with her and she always incorporates documentaries into lectures. Fantastic prof, highly recommend!
one of the best teachers at Concordia!!! if you struggle just go and see her , she will always help her students. it is important to attend classes because the materials will be needed in the exam!! very recommended
She's so interesting and passionate about what she teaches. I took her for juvenile delinquency and I absolutely loved that class! great teacher
Outstanding teacher, take advantage of the help that she offers it helps a lot, take home essay exam, and two exams in the semester, her lectures are so interesting and she is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. She is very open to opinions and never judges. Great prof!!!
Course is of an average difficulty and workload. A lot of readings that are essential to quiz, midterm and final. Midterm and finals are take-homes - which is good. My problem is that she isn't very clear most of the time. Lectures go back and forth and back again. Do the readings and make sure you know what she wants and you'll be good to go.
she's nice and likes what she does but the course lectures are confusing. you don't know what she is talking about and where it belongs in the text. asumes everyone knows a lot about sociology going into the course.
France Tremblay is a wonderful professor. She's passionate when covering material and inspires students to participate in her class. Very approachable. IF you're looking to get an A in this class get ready to work.
Most passionate teacher I have ever had. She loves what she does and tries to get everyone in her class to participate in her lectures. Super approachable. I really like her teaching style but its not for everyone.
Francine Tremblay is awesome! Love her sarcasm- shes straight to the point. She engages the class and is interesting to listen to. Really liked her.
I have taken her twice and at first it is quite a congusion fest but after a while you get the hang of her teaching styles. I have come to enjoy her teachings and lectures. She is direct and does not divert from the topic. She is there to helpout students, she takes the time to review when needed. She is one of the best teachers I had!
For those who hesistate to take her because the lectures are confusing (1) you will get the hang of it.(2) she can clarify anything that is misunderstood (3) she is very understanding and very approachable (4) she usually sets meeting times so students can get together with her and discuss!Easy class to attend, fun lectures! I would recommend 100%!
Really great professor! Very enthusiastic and passionate about what she teaches. She cares about her students and wants her students to do well. Had her for 2 courses and would definitely take another course with her again.
She's passionate about what she does and that comes across. There is lots to read, especially in the first half of the course. She keeps the classes interesting. Occasionally there seems to be a language barrier. She'll prompt the class but no one is sure what's she's asking or trying to get from us. She'll clarify any time you need it though.
Dr Tremblay is someone who takes teaching to a different level. She cares for her students and cares about transferring knowledge in inspirational ways. This professor is undoubtedly a source of knowledge and inspiration. In fact, it saddens me that I was able to be her student only once. Many teachers have so much to learn from this woman.
An inspirational lecturer and very passionate about sociology, but lectures consist of her summarising sections in the book for 3 hrs. She hardly uses technology and lectures without any visuals (e.g. powerpoints)- its a LOT of listening. Also she doesn't email handouts, so if you're absent you miss out on lots (e.g. the takehome midterm q's)
Prof. Tremblay is amazing. She is funny, passionate and cares about her students. Some criticize her for not being "technological enough" get over it. If you attend class and read what she asks you too the class is not too difficult. Even if you do have a hard time, she is always happy to answer questions. I would LOVE to take a class by her again!
She challenges her students. I had to work with her a lot outside class but she really cared about me getting a good grade.
She is really passionate about what she is teaching, but she does not use Moodle or any slides/powerpoint, just talks in lectures so be prepare to write fast. Her teaching does not really have a structure, for me i found it hard to follow. Her assignments and papers are not easy to get good grades on. Sometimes her instructions are not so clear.
I have Tremblay for an online class meaning that I have never actually met her in person. I can tell that she is passionate about what she teaches. Grading criteria is clear and if you are in Montreal she has classroom time if students have questions or want to discuss the assignments. Overall I think she is fair and a good prof.
She is THE prof to get to know! Not only is she passionate about her work, she is equally dedicated to making sure her students do well! I've had the pleasure of taking 2 courses with her and she could not be more helpful when I needed her. Take her classes if you can, you will learn a lot!
Terribly uninformed regarding class content. Discussions with no resolution, frustratingly wrong information at times, and confusing assignments. Dr. Tremblay is very nice and means well, but I feel like I did not learn a single thing I did not already know from this class, which is disappointing from a 300 level.
I adore this professor, although I have to say some of my colleagues think she is a bit all over the place. I think the textbook was great and the lectures were very inspirational. She is a fair grader and a good person.
Terribly disorganized, unclear instructions and criteria, and all over the place. No powerpoints, just talking for 3h straight. Be ready to take notes.
shes sweet and passionate, but her lectures are unfortunately very draining. 2 hrs and 30 minutes of her just speaking, no slides, nothing. just her speaking in a monotone voice. she can be all over the place. her assignments are worth a lot. one exam was 20% but we were allowed a max of 300 wrds which meant we lost a lot of marks for small errors
Does not force you to memorize, simply understand. Readings were sometimes tough, but fairly short. Only 2 exams, but open to reweigh if you do bad. Always checked in on us during semester (even reducing our workloads + extending deadlines). No powerpoints, so take notes (tbh I did well without). Yes disorganized, but nothing unmanagable.
1. saving grace is that it was relatively easy. 2. horribly disorganized, unclear and inconsistent in her lectures, assignments and grading 3. boring and long lectures 4. she is nice and cares 5. hard to contact so annoying since things often need clarification 6. so chaotic you wont learn much, very frustrating to manage her style or lack there of
She's so nice and she tries her best to make her classes interesting, but she does go on tangents, and taking notes may be difficult. Her exams and tests are usually take home essays! Also she is always there to explain and go over concepts, and has a strong personality.
Francine is a passionate professor who knows her stuff. Her lectures are delivered more in an "old school" fashion which I personally found inspiring. Her style may not be for everyone but she wants all to succeed. If you attend her lectures, take notes and do the readings, you can ace this class easily. I will certainly take her again If I can.
Professor Tremblay is approachable and kind. She helped me outside of regular office hours. Evaluation consisted of one in-class essay, one literature review, and one take-home exam. She is a fair grader and is willing to give you extra help and re-weigh your grades if you do poorly. I highly recommend taking her classes.
Prof Tremblay's class was not the most structured, but the online lecture were pre recorded by a diferent prof. She's easy to reach out to, is kind and will help you if you email/ go to office hours. I know she likes to give litterature reviews for assigments so get ready to read! } Overall, I'd take her again.
The only prof I chose to take twice. She is a tough grader, but in the sense that she loves to push people to achieve their highest potential. She loves getting into conversations with her students. Do not be shy to pop into her office during her office hours, she will stop everything to help you. I 100% recommend this prof.
There were no slides/presentations most days, she would sometimes display a wall of text but that was it. We were graded on only three things, the last of which was worth 40% and had very limited information available online to reference. Sparse guidelines, grading rubric, etc. Don't take this course if you're looking for a tech-savvy professor.
her lectures were hard to follow, long, useless, and no slides. she said only 5 ppl can get an A. she gave bad grades on the midterm even though her question sucked and didn't cover what she told us to review. encourages students to email her for feedback and when they email, she answers a week later and tells them they procrastinated. she's awful.
This dinosaur needs to retire asap. She's very old school due to the fact that there are no slides, grades extremely harsh which really does discourage students within the class. It's very lecture heavy so you have no choice but to come to class even though she'll make you feel like a fossil! WHY? Only a few students get an A; B- is better than ntg
Have taken 4 of her classes willingly. Very insightful and interesting person. Lectures are not mandatory, but be sure to keep up with the work on your own time and you'll do well. Your grades depend solely on 3/4 papers. Ask her anything!! She will always help.
She's a tough grader, lecture heavy and it's a bit hard to take notes. There're 4 evaluations, and 2 are due on the same day right like a week before the final is due. So you're stuck with only one grade until the last week of school. She is very though and engages with her students.
