he is only here for the year but if u have to take him while he is here dont be intellecually lazy, he doesnt like that. tests are extremely hard! u just have to study and hope to god what u studied is on the exam! funny guy, draws horrible pictures!!
Dr. Allard is by far the best teacher I have had to date at IUP. He has a great way of getting everyone involved, which at least in my case, helps you learn better. If you have the chance to take him, do it.
i would highly recommend allard. he's very easy going and covers the material very thoroughly. if you pay attention, you're set. i dont think his test are very difficult, either. he uses stories to keep things interesting. very good professor.

Dr. Allard is very enthusiastic and his tests aren't too hard if you pay attention and understand the underlying concepts. He's very funny and he's interviewing for a full-time position here so keep your fingers crossed!
His stories are great and his drawings of giraffes even better!
He has to be one of the most boring profs I have ever taken. All he does is teach to particular students that he likes for some reason, or ones who kiss his behind. ALL he does is read from his lame handouts. It would be a shame to see him hired.
All hail Caesar!
Fabulous professor. His tests can be difficult, but going to every class and taking notes pays off. Lots of positive energy- hope he gets hired for a full time position!
This man is an absolutely fantastic prof. I have learned a great deal from his class and I really enjoy his teaching method. The tests can be difficult, but I like them. They require you to learn the material--and why not? Anthropology is fun!
this man sucks as a teacher, plain and simple. nothing more, nothing less. do not waste your time with anthro or "mr. bean"
He's got a certain cuteness to him. But that's not why I took the class. I love Anthropology, and he made it so fun. I'd have to agree, his giraffe drawings are so funny. We watched several intersting films. Killer tests and a tough grader.
I found this class very interesting! He is such a nice guy and funny, makes the class interesting and I had it for 3 hrs a day! The tests are a little difficult, you need to study. Take him!
Just horrible. Avoid at all costs! He is just so damn boring, scatterbrained, and is just a dip!
Dr. Allard is really a funny guy. The tests are horrible, no matter how hard i studied and worked my ass off i did absolutely horrible on them. He is def a little flighty tho. but a great guy, very approachable
The only prof who could make me hate anthropology! Avoid at all costs!
i did not want to take this class, i had zero interest... but he made learing fun and exciting. i actually looked forward to his class all day long and i hate to say it sometimes i hated to see it end... iup would do well to hire him full time!
really good prof, he is entertaining and keeps it interesting. heavy emphasis on lecture material. tests are difficult, studing with a friend is very effective.
Dr. Allard is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes Anthropology interesting and easy to understand. Class attendance is crucial, but it is very worthwhile to go. I strongly recommmend him.
I loved this class.Hes a funny guy and makes the class interesting, I actually looked forward to going to class. The tests are hard, but you just have to pay attention. It was a lot of fun and Id take him again if I could. Take Him!!
Dr. Allard this one is for YOU!!!!
A great professor all around! Made the class very interesting and even though u can sleep you wont want to! Tests arent bad as long as u go to class and read over your notes. Very recommended!
He is the worst professor I have ever had!
Great teacher. Very interactive. Makes the class quite fun. There isn't an attendance policy, and rarely is there homework. It's one of those classes that's taught so well and is made so interesting that I rarely need to study. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
He is a really nice guy, but his teaching is just too unorganized for me. He jumps from subject to subject, and can be hard to follow. He is more than willing to help you if you go to him though. Also, his exams are hard! Make sure you study! Come to class for the lecture and take good notes!
Allard is a hoot - he's a bit of a****at times but never overdone. He loves what he does and it shows. You're allowed, encouraged even, to sleep in class... but you won't want to!
class is easy if you study and take good note... his test are hard to understand if you don't study or go to class
Dr.allard is a nice guy. and he's kinda cute for an old dude. he teaches very well, and he makes the class very interesting.
Unique & sagacious. Teaching style is informal, witty, staggeringly disorganized, yet highly effective. Treats students as adults and generates/expects/respects intelligent discourse. Papers give room for creativity, exams are fair, quizzes are MIASMAL. His molten sex-appeal makes the girls go WILD.
Great class Dr. Allard!!!
Great teacher. take him if you can. go to class and study and you should do fine. tests can be hard, but he is willing to help outside of class and holds review sessions outside of class.
Should not have been hired. Terrible prof!
His class isn't that bad. You need to have a sense of humor and throw the stuff right back at him. One of the thrills in his life is annoying people and he's good at it!
just go to every class and listen. tests are hard if you skip class
This teacher made class a joy instead of a dread. The dates are a bit mixed up, but the information is interesting if you are a history or science person. Us three girls will miss your class Dr. Allard, and you will get those peppers someday.
Francis Allard is a great prof. and a very comical and interesting guy. I would recommend him to anyone. The class is a lot of fun. Make sure to go to class. But you probably won't want to miss anyway.
Great Great Great!!! loved this class. I had no interest in the subject and it ended up being my favorite class... He really was interested in the subject. I looked forward to his class all day!!!
this guy is sooooooo smart. take him. it's a great class!!!
Unorganized, not hard, but not easy to follow.
Very, very intelligent, willing to talk about class subjects anytime, extremely helpful.
Fun Class... he has a good sense of humor and even lets you sleep.. but if you wake up.. you're fair game.
Very fun class
He is AWFUL! Chooses favorites like crazy!
totally hysterical
Allard was horrible! All he did was play favorites and be an arrogant jerk!
He was so crazy! If he tries to get you to go with him to Mongolia, go. Seriously. I had the time of my life. And he likes to have fun. He gave me a B, though, which was really lame of him. But I gave him a 'hot' because he's always been upset about not having and hot peppers. He is a really great classroom professor, though. Always one of my favorite teachers.

he has no attendance policy which is a great plus, but i didn't really want to skip class anyways. good prof and hilarious stories.
The only class I make it a point to attend. He is smart and sooo funny. And he's Canadian -- I think I'm in love.
One interesting guy. There's never a dull moment. I would never have missed this class on purpose for two reasons: it was fun to go to, and his tests and quizzes were based on only lecture material. Everything was covered in class!
This man is so absurd. In class you can do nothing but laugh at him. He is so random but it is funny. He makes class fun, and go by quickly...I would take him again! Oh, he has no attendance policy which is kind of cool but you won't want to miss anyway...plus the lecture is the majority of the test.
Great prof. Hes hilarious. Has the most random stories. Tests aren't too bad, but there all on his lectures so you gotta go to class. He makes the class fun and interesting. I would take him again if I could.
He's a funny guy. Tests are easy. Just go to most of the classes.
great sense of humor, lots of readings, quizzes/tests arent bad if you study for them
Funny guy, he knows his information pratically inside and out! I would take another one of his classes again in the future (since I'm an anthropology major that will happen). He can be a bit confusing at times in regards to explaining genetics, etc. But he's a really great, funny, fun loving guy whos out to help his students. Take him he's grea
he's a great guy...very helpful, very funny, understanding. go to class and study you'll get an A
Like everyone else said...very funny, and a truely nice guy! I wish I wasn't a senior or i'd take another one of his classes. Easy as long as you go, but you won't want to miss because he is one of the few genuinely great profs at IUP.
Dr. Allard is a great prof, his exam tend to be difficult, but if you go you'll do ok, he's got a great sense of humor, and makes classes enjoyable!
great prof, very helpful... makes class a lot of fun! the exams were more difficult then i expected, but if you study you should be fine. there is no attendance, but you won't even want to miss. i HIGHLY recommend him!
my absolute favorite professor here. tests and quizzes are a little difficult, but he always tells you exactly whats going to be on them, so you know what to study. lectures are interesting and entertaining, you never want to miss class!
I have had this professor a few times. He is my favorite! I take him any chance I can. He teachs things in a way for a student to remember everything. I remember stuff from 2 yrs ago! I have always done well in his classes. He keeps things interesting and his tests are not too bad. Take him if you enjoy learning. He has a lot to teach his students!
Great proffessor!! He helped me so much this semester...not just in class but personally also! He has a great way of adding humor into his teaching, which always keeps you interested. BARELY any homewok, And tests are only hard if you dont study at all....DEFINATELY take this proffessor :)
He's the greatest! He keeps us entertained with crazy stories with him and his language experiences..he also teaches what we need to know and nothing less..take him he's the****!
Came into class the first day and didn't realize just how much I would end up loving it. Tests will only be too difficult if you don't go to class or do reading to compensate. He's willing to help you and is very understanding if you're trying your best. A wise choice to take.
AWESOME!!! he is by far the COOLEST guy ever. My FYE class in fall 06 had a blast. he's funny, smart, and knows how to clarify things. His tests were easy but he tried really hard to make them difficult so it was hilarious. I recommend this class to everyone and anyone!
Really funny. Makes class time interesting! I had him for a 3-hour summer class and he kept it fun and interesting the whole time! You watch lots of videos and he gives lots of interesting 'party facts' and examples.
Very awesome! He keeps classes so interesting that I always look forward to going to class. Virtually no homework. All the information in the lectures are so easy to understand and remember! I recommend 100%!
The class is interesting, but his grading is ridiculous. So are his quizes. He is generally pretty cool, but still, his way of grading is not so good.
He reads the comments made about him on this website and reads them aloud to the class. He may be a hard grader but you WILL remember what he teaches. Also, he does not pressure creationists, even in a class about evolution, he still treats it as an option.
He makes class really fun and when it ends I cant wait till the next one. He gives 3 test and 1 essay. You do need da book Dancing Skeletons for da essay and da #2 test but make sure you come 2 every class cuz nothing is from the text book and you only need da the text book if you miss somthing. And the party facts great. ask about snowflake
Wow! what a great class. The class isn't that hard as long as you pay attention which isn't too hard with his style of teaching. His classes are worth taking.
Dr. Allard is a great professor. Class is very laid back and he often tells stories or just totally gets off track, but you always come away with new and interesting knowledge about anthropology. His quizzes can be a little tricky with the wording, but his tests are essay, and he permits you to bring a 1 page outline on test day. Funny & helpful.
Extremely fun professor. Interactive and helpful.Quizzes are tough, but if you pay attention and play along, you'll have fun and learn alot!
Allard may be a tough professor in terms of his tests, but his class is seriously one of my favorites this semester. His tests are tricky;, just one word will trip you up. But as long as you carefully read over all the answers and take the time to study for the tests as well as actually attend class, you should be fine.
Amazing prof, amazing class. I took anthro 110 because it met 2 of my requirements, and i ended up LOVING it. Attendance isnt mandatory, but it is absolutely necessary to pass. Dr Allard has amazing stories and makes the lectures interesting, you won't want to miss class. Textbook is necessary. Tests are easy if you are present and attentive.
I took Dr. Allard for Unit I of Science Core. His readings were usually no more than ten pages and you never wrote papers on Fridays, when he would bring us candy. He likes to talk and has very funny mannerisms since he is foreign. He is very helpful when writing papers, finding book sources, and an all-around good professor.
Allard is one of my favorite profs. Attendance isnt mandatory but you should be in every class or you prob wont pass. Quizes are hard but class is a lot of fun. I recomend him
Allard is hillarious. His quizzes are a little tricky. The material covered in his classes are all relevant. He is a very good prof and advisor.
Allard's class is one class I actually like going to. The class goes by so quickly, but maybe it's because half of the class is him telling the class about his weekend, or his family. Independent notes though, he lectures and you have to be in class and paying attention if you want a passing grade. Test and quizzes are kind of difficult.
Excellent teacher. Quite a performer. Fun to go to class. You will want to even though its not required.
Class is interesting, he has an up-beat attitude that allows you to pay attention more in the class room. Only 3 or so exams, but the questions are trick. Go to class, pay attention, take notes, and you'll get a B or higher. Definitely recommend him!
I took this online over the summer. It was a lot of work, but not too bad. The quizzes are timed and he doesn't give long so you really have to know the information. Also, you have to write a 2 page paper every week and he gives grades without explaining why you got that grade. I managed to get an A.
I love Dr. Allards way of teaching theres never a boring moment. When I left his class I was very interested in Anthropology. the books are practically useless, the exams can be pretty tricky, but if you go to class, pay attention, take and review notes you'll be fine.
If you like getting good grades, GO TO CLASS. He has tricky tests that are countered only by paying attention in class and reading the associated sections in the book. Don't be discouraged, however; Dr. Allard is hilarious and knows what he's talking about. Giving this class an honest effort will net you much more benefit than just an A grade.
Great professor, easy class if you show up and pay attention.
Absolutely awesome professor, highly recommend him. He's highly entertaining and keeps the class fun. His tests can be tricky, but as long as you attend his class and actually pay attention, take a few notes, and read what he tells you to on the study guide you'll definitely get a B or higher.
I, for one, am glad that this man still has his pepper.
I took this class with almost no prior knowledge of China, but plenty of curiosity. It is to date my favorite class I've taken at IUP. It's a fascinating class with an interesting subject matter taught by a great prof who lived it and has plenty of amazing stories to tell! Whether you love Chinese culture or know nothing about it, take this class.
An amazing teacher, very entertaining, does not take attendance although you want to go to class in order to pass the quizzes and exams. The quizzes were difficult at first but after you get used to them you get used to his tricks. Overall take his class if you can!
Amazing class, one of my favorites at IUP so far. He is a great prof. Goes on tangents but relevant to what we are talking about and makes the topic easier to understand. If given the opportunity, DEFINATELY TAKE HIM!
Be careful when taking Dr.Allard. The material is easy to understand, but his tests are really tricky and a lot of students fail the first test. What should have been an easy A class to take, turned out to be a challenge. He is very helpful during his office hours, so go and visit him frequently!
If you want an A, you're going to have to work hard for it. He's a nice guy and he's willing to help you get the A or B. He has office hours, I strongly suggest going before the test or paper. It will help a lot. I really like him as a person though. His test are really hard, but you can tell he cares for his students and wants them to succeed.
Dr. Allard is a great professor whose classes are always entertaining and informative. You will definitely learn from his class, and you will enjoy it.
Was the most confusing class I have ever taken. His exams were short but actually crammed four or so questions in one in a very strange way. Dropped it because I couldnt justify a C in an elective, but i retook it with another professor and got an easy A. Find another professor if you can!
He's a funny guy and makes class enjoyable. His tests are hard and very tricky but I've had no problems with them. You really have to come to class, everything he says is usually on the tests. Not a bad teacher. I'm just lazy and would rather have an easier teacher who wasn't so tricky with their words on tests. IF you like a challenge, take him.
Class is SUPER easy! Go to class, pay attention & take notes! I barely opened my text book, just re-read my notes from class. He gives studyguides. I got an A in the class. Your grade includes: 3 exams & 1 essay exam. Tests are a little tricky, but if you actually take time to READ them, you'll get it right! He's super funny, definitely take him!
Great professor. Charming and witty. Enjoyed all three classes I took with him as the professor! Definitely recommend!
His testing style is unique, but it's not hard. Just pay attention & read the material. It also helps to not be stupid.
NOTE: This is an honors course. He may be different in other classes. He is very funny and engaging. He encourages class discussion and is friendly. However, he expects you to read and write a lot.
Stay on your toes; he's a tricky one. Great professor though.
Really easy class, but going to class is essential to passing. I didn't buy the textbook, almost all the material on the tests in covered in the lecture, most of it isn't even in the textbook. There was no homework, 3 tests and an in class essay. He's really funny, enthusiastic and helpful! Loved him and would take him again in a heartbeat!
Honors core is a tough class, so you should know what your getting into. A lot of working (roughly sixty pages in the half semester), but very clearly structured. Had some old man charm. French Canadian, so slight communication difficulties.
I think that this class being a 100 level course and being about Anthropology should be an easy A. It was not. I barely passed and I am a straight A student. The tests are so tricky and he admits that he wants to make sure you know your stuff. The tests are impossible.. Might wanna take someone else.
Really entertaining professor. Makes the class really interesting. But going to class and paying attention is necessary for a good grade on the test.
Dr. Allard is a great professor. He doesn't use slides so you have to pay attention in class and write out the notes or you won't pass. His quizzes are kind of strange, but they are doable. Either go to class every day or make friends because you will be learning stuff not in the book. Buying a book honestly isn't even necessary.
Ok, Professor Allard is an amazing professor. But I seriously warn you, do not take his class if you aren't a good test taker. His tests are very difficult and can be tricky. The first exam we had, 70% of the class got D's and F's. If you aren't planning on going to class, don't even bother registering. In one class he covers a lot of useful info.
Nice guy and hilarious lectures. Tells awesome stories! Be sure to take good notes. You've got to really know your stuff. Tests can be tricky but not impossible. No homework. Not many points (3 exams and one other assignment.) Take notes and GO TO CLASS!
Awesome personality. Very funny. No homework. No attendance. No quizes. No participation. You can even fall asleep, and he won't care BUT there are 3 tests and an in-class essay. Because he doesn't Grade all of that stuff, you have only the tests to rely on. And let me tell you, they are HARD. If you don't past the tests, you fail. READ!
I have had Dr. Allard twice one for Honors Core and Anthro 110. If he offers you a chance to ask questions before a test go to it! He is very helpful and gives a study guide before each test. If you do the work and take notes you will easily pass. He also is a very funny professor.
If you're one of the few students taking courses in College for the purposes of actually learning something, Dr. Allard is one of the Best this school has to offer. Be mature, don't slack, and be prepared. Miss the class, you're missing out...
He is one of my favorite professors and has made me very interested in this field. Definitely would take again. His quizzes are hard but he tries to help
I seriously loved his class! He was always funny, telling us about his life, and overall my favorite prof this semester. His tests are a little on the harder side even with studying. You don't really use the "text book" but you will read an other assigned text. Again he's very easy going and helpful. Take his class, you won't regret it one bit!
I've had Allard for multiple Anthro courses, his teaching and grading styles are fairly consistent throughout. He will goof around. He will talk about his wife and his son. He will go off topic quite often. That said, he efficiently introduces information necessary for the course and effectively keeps student attention.
Very great teacher, you can tell he loves what he does. Attendance is not mandatory but you WILL NOT pass if you don't go. He does not use powerpoint so take good/organized notes. Gives a study guide for exams. As long as you show up, take notes, and pay attention it should not be a difficult class.
The content of his classes is interesting, but he prides himself in knowing that the majority of the class receives C's and D's on any given quiz or exam. If you want to maintain your 4.0 GPA, don't take his classes.
Make sure you take everything he says with a grain of salt, he is kind of arrogant, but if you meet him outside of class he's pretty nice. Make sure you do all of the readings b/c he will call you out and pick on you if you haven't done something. Wants to see his students succeed, not afraid to make things more difficult than what they have to be.
Verbal material only, but funny and loves to tell stories.
Told us that he doesn't care if we come to class or pay attention, then chastises people for not coming and not paying attention. Prides himself on his students not getting A's in his classes. If you go to class (PAY ATTENTION), take notes, etc, you'll be fine. Don't let him intimidate you. Lectures are all verbal. Get the textbook from Chegg
The class itself was very interesting and Professor Allard is super funny. There are three tests (on the lectures/textbook), one in-class essay (on Dancing Skeletons), and a final. If you come to class and pay attention you will do fine and take notes to study for exams because he doesn't post lectures/notes online.
He's an amazing professor. He's also a really nice guy. If you have a chance to have him, take him. You won't regret it.
You have to write your own notes (there is no powerpoint), and as you are studing your notes you will find he contradicts himself and will jump from topic to topic. So studying is a nightmare. If you ask questions be prepared for him to belittle you.
Dr. Allard is very interesting to listen to but this class is pretty boring. I didn't get the textbook, and I seemed to do okay without it. I did get the ethnography, however, and it was a good read. The tests are all true/false and it can sometimes be confusing. He is a very funny prof, though.
Dr. Allard is awesome! He makes class a real enjoyable time and he is very well-versed and passionate in what he teaches. If you need an anthro class, he's the one to take. One of the best at IUP.
Amazing professor. The class was only based on 4 test, but if you did well and were enganged in class he would bump your grade up. The tests were not hard and he tells you what is going to be on them. He knows a lot about anthro and gives hilarious lectures. Willing to answer any questions students had. An easy class to pass with a fun professor.
Prof Allard is by far the best professor I've had at IUP. His lectures were amazing, and he really made me love Anthropology. His tests are odd, but if you show up to class and pay attention, they're not hard. He likes to joke around a lot, which really made the class fun and enjoyable. Wish I could take more ANTH classes!!!
Professor Allard told us constantly that if we don't show up we won't pass, I don't really think this is true. His lectures are very boring and he will ramble about things that won't even end up on the exam. He will keep up with you via email on class progress. He is a nice guy but I would not take him again.
This class was extremely hard to pay attention in because the lectures were the same thing constantly. Felt like we never moved on from the topic. He said we needed the books but we ended up not even reading them. His tests are true and false which seems easy but they arent. Hes funny and nice tho
He is a really good guy but the way he teaches the class could be improved. There are only 4 grades for the entire semester and 3 of those are exams that are all true false questions and it had me second guessing myself the whole time. If he had more graded assignments I feel like I would've enjoyed the class more
Dr. Allard seems like his class would be great at first but quite the opposite. His lectures are boring, his tests are ridiculous, and your only grades are exams and one paper that isnt worth alot of points. His tests are way over specific and he includes questions that pertain to himself. Theres not really a way to study for his exams either.
Dr. Allard was alright. Your entire course grade relies on three exams and a paper, so failing one of those basically dooms you from the start. However, the test questions weren't difficult if you understood the main ideas. Ethnography was cool but barely touched the textbook. He isn't open to feedback so don't bother asking for more graded items.
Dr. Allard is a really funny, great guy. Though lectures could sometimes be boring, he did his best to keep us focused and interact with us. His quizzes were a bit hard, and you really have to study well to get a good grade on them. Most of the grading is based on those quizzes aside from a couple of papers. There were no bonus opportunities.
This class is no doubt really hard, but Doctor Allard is one of the most caring professors Ive had and he really tries to help you understand the material
Hardest class Ive ever taken. If you dont need it, dont take it.
I rarely showed up to class. His lectures are boring, although he is kinda funny, and 95% of what you need is in a slideshow he posts online. If you have a little common sense and rudimentary knowledge of sociology or anthro, the tests are easy. Read the Gebusi book for the essay, and double check your test answers before submitting and you be ok
Dr. Allard made this class much harder than it should be for an elective. The only grades are 3 exams and an essay, so you're essentially screwed if you do poorly one of them (no extra credit either). He has a huge ego and most of his lectures consistent of him talking about himself and his accomplishments. I would not recommend taking this class.
While attendance is not mandatory, it is STRONGLY ADVISED. His exams are set up in a true/false manner, and they are open note, but the notes needed come directly from class discussion, not the slideshows he posts; often, exam questions are based off what he says. I thoroughly enjoyed his class, and he worked hard to make everyone interested.
Dr. Allard is extremely passionate about anthropology, and it shows in each lecture. While attendance isn't graded/mandatory, I would really recommend going since over half of what he has on his exams is what he mentions in class. Class itself is graded on 3 exams in true/false manner, and an essay. That's it. He gives study guides, which do help.
Allard was funny when it came to the lectures. However, the grades consist of 3 exams and a paper. The exams are very difficult no matter how much you study. They are all true false and he makes it very tricky to determine if a statement is true or if it is false.
Dr. Allard is nice for Honors Core. Compared to the other professors, he is on more of the demanding side with papers, so get ready to write a lot of paper compared to other units. Classes were used as lectures, but he does call on random people, so be ready. He's an interesting professor to say the least, but I'm glad I had him for core.
Dr. Allard is probably my favorite professor. He's the weirdest guy I've ever met and it's great. Make sure you don't skip his class though! It's hard to catch up after you've missed a class. Quizzes are a bit difficult at first, but easy after you get them hang of them. Really difficult to fail the class.
We are only graded on exams and he makes them more difficult than they have to be. The exams are all true and false, but he makes it hard to know if it's true or false. The exams are not fair and he sets us up to fail the class. Do not take him if you don't need to. Very bad
I do not recommend taking this class. He calls on people randomly which is really annoying. There are only 100 points in the entire class made up of 4 tests. 3 of them are all true/false and one is an essay test. The true and false tests are horrible and impossible to study for. Save your grade. My GPA was a 3.78 and now its going to tank.
Favorite professor I have had so far. Very kind and listens to the students in class. Energetic and never in a bad mood. Tests can be tricky due to the true or false nature, but he makes the falses obvious enough.
He does not do any assignment besides 3 exams. Exam questions are all true or false and practically impossible to do well on. Attendance isn't mandatory but a lot of content on exams is talked about during lecture. Dr. Allard isn't a bad professor, he just needs to rethink how he goes about this class.
3 tests and an essay. If you pay attention in class it will be easy enough. keeps class very engaging and will round up your final grade if you're within a few percentages. favorite professor so far cause there is no busy work.
Do not recommend taking this class. very lecture heavy very hard to try and keep up as he teaches above the level of the class.
4 tests, essay, + final. Very weird yet super interesting man, while the subjects in lecture can be boring sometimes, usually him and the lectures are entertaining and go by quite quick. Tests are easy and I HIGHLY recommend going to class although he doesnt take attendance as he tests on stuff he says in class that isn't always on the powerpoint
Allard's ANTH110 is a challenging course, but engaging if you put in the work. True/false exams require diligent note-taking and textbook study. Consider using unstuck AI to supplement your prep - it helped me stay organized and focused.
Dr. Francis Allard has somehow made a topic I never once cared about, anthropology and archeology, into something I've found much interest in! Because of his teaching style, hilarious attitude, and presentation, I have found myself favoring my anthropology class the most this semester! I will definitely be pursuing a minor in this field!
Dr. Allard's class was not very enjoyable. He lectured every class and his lectures were often very unorganized. He frequently jumped back and forth between slides and topics and did not stay on track. I found it more helpful to read the textbook and teach myself the lessons after class.
Dr. Allard is highly passionate about what he teaches. The class is hilarious and pretty easy if you are interested in archaeology. His tests are true and false questions based on what he said in class. In other words, don't expect to do well if you don't attend class.
I really enjoy him as a person, however his class is way too demanding for a Gen Ed 100 level course required by most majors. There's only 100 points for the entire class, with two exams, one essay, and the final. The tests have true/false statements that are almost impossible to get an A on if you can't remember small details and retain lectures.
I have a 3.78 GPA, I ended the class with an A, and I did not like him at all. For a 100-level class, it was lecture-intensive, and he never posted grades. His lectures were scattered and imprecise. Testing was largely true-or-false, but many of the questions were so similar to each other. Those who do not do well with this format will struggle.
Attendance isn't mandatory but it is advised if you want to understand the class. There aren't many assignments but there are a couple quizzes, and they're based off the lectures. There was no textbook required for this class. He is willing to meet with you during his office hours or after class if you're having a hard time.
This was my second course with Prof. Allard. He truly cares about his students and his lectures are always engaging and fun, often turning into a fun discussion by the end. Not many graded materials, but the quizzes are all take-home and the final is based off the quizzes. There were two writing assignments, but not difficult. Would take again!
