Extremely narrow-minded. Does not respect any opinion that is contrary to his own. I cannot imagine anybody learning anything in this class except maybe how to be rude and condescending.

Challenging but fun. Be prepared to have views and opinions shot down. The whole purpose of the class is to get one to understand the influences around us make us who we are today. He isn't for everyone. If you participate in class and do reading summaries you can ace this class.
Be prepared to have no opinion that matters unless its in line with his. Be smart stay away from this class.
He is basically just an unhappy rude middle aged man who uses his position of authority in the classroom to boost his ego. Horrible horrible class.
Absolutely awesome teacher. A very smart man in his methods, you gain a sociological perspective and a great understanding by his bluntness and ideas, and he keeps it very interesting. you must have an open mind to take this class.
I am now taking Brooker for the second time, Family Development. Needless to say, he is up to his old habits of questionable behavior, rude responces and tough on thoses that don't participate. To Ace this class, participation is a must, otherwise be prepared to be frustrated and angry. Good luck
thought that i was going to do real well in his class. did all that he said. didnt do what he wanted me to do for the papers and he gave me a bad grade. Hes pompus. thought he was a great teacher but then he gave me a bad grade for no reason. wants u to confirm to his crazy beliefs.
We bought a book with 22 chap. we have to do a 3 page summary of every chapter, and we dont even discuss any of the ideas that are in text in the class. If we do ask about the book, he won't answer it. He teaches us basically the same thing every day. Only useful thing: influences leads to behavior.

I have never felt so insulted as I did in this class. He purposfully looks for the most unacceptable thing he could say and does it in a demeaning way.He assigns homework and counts it, but doesn't talk abut it.I don't need busy work. He is arrogant, selfish, uncaring, and burnt out.Poor Experience

The best professor ever! I wish that all my other Professors were like him. SO100 with Prof. Broooker was one of the few classes worth its $900.

Dr. Brooker changed my life and my view on the world as we know it. I took his class purely because I heard he was difficult. I was 28 when I took the class and long out of College. However, I ended up taking 3 of his classes just because. He is an AMAZING teacher. People need to open their eyes. He can help you with that.

This professor gave me more bang for my Worcester State buck than anybody at the several schools/universities i attended. It has been 5 years since I attended one of his classes, and I can't help but look at the world through a lens shaped by that experience (three courses worth, including one failure!). And no you shouldn't retire this semester.

I've taken three courses with Brooker and no one has opened mind as much as he has. You can disagree with him, but you can't deny the fact that he makes you think... and isn't that what teachers are supposed to do?

You will walk out of that class mentalized because when it's in session, so much tension going on between the disagreements of the students and the professors. note: Advance at your own risk.
Ths clas isn't bad at all.. you just need to keep up wih the homeowork [which he checks randomly.. usually the people who dont participate] and talk during class. If you go to class everytime with a question or comment, you will do fine. This class is pretty interesting.

Hearing about his rich life style you quickly learn he may be an enormous burden on the WSC budget. His idea of helping a student is to criticize them and your grade is not reflected through text book understanding. I participated everyday and received a worse grade than the girl next to me whos only smstr comment was, and I quote, "I love puppies"

He should be the President. He changed my life. He took everything I learned, smashed it to pieces, and showed me the real deal. Even if he gives you an F, it's the most enlightening educational experience you'll ever have. College isn't about having your professors reaffirm your "beliefs." Open your mind. Take the class. Do what he says. Get an A.
Prof. Brooker is unlike any other professor you'll take. Unfortunately the best way to pass this class is show up and agree with whatever he says. Attendance is very mandatory, as is participation. If you don't want to talk EVERY DAY in class, take another prof.

Contrary to people below, Brooker doesn't express his opinion. His ideas are based on statistics and are GENERAL. Not personal to you. He is a great professor that has really great ideas. Even if you don't agree with him, the discussions are hilarious.
best prof at WSC he will make you think and challenge your views but as long as you dont take everything personally and are open to other views you will learn alot and have your eyes opened. most are too ignorant and closed minded to appreciate a great prof who cares about the material and is passionate. recommend 100% for GOOD students

I completely disagree with someone's comment. You don't need to agree with what he teaches, you need to write it on the test. I didn't agree with everything he said, but he was an outstanding professor. I went to three colleges, only remember a few professors, and he was without a doubt one of the best, and also very helpful if you needed help.
He was such a nice guy! I took intro to Sociology with him and I really enjoyed the class. As long as you payed attention and participated you he liked you. Essay tests but they were on everything we talked about in class. He takes attendance really seriously.

When you first take the class you're going to think he's an jerk, everything he talks about has no relevance to the text. Just participate he likes a good debate, you'll most likely pass if you can hold a conversation with him. Also don't mention you smoke cigarettes...
Just because it's an easy class it doesn't mean you should take it. He's generally nice, but only to those who participate. If you don't like an hour and fifteen mins of open discussion, don't take it.
He's an okay guy. Definitely changes your view on certain topics, but does it in an extreme manner. Tests are riddles, cant study for them. MUST PARTICIPATE! HW is solely for busy work aka waste of time. Just agree with everything he says, and you'll do fine. Sincerely dreaded going to class everyday.
Homework isn't a big deal, he doesn't even check it, I've showed him notes I printed from online that had nothing to do with the text and he gave me 100% for homework. This guy pretty much changed my life. Unlike the religious folks I've read about, it was definitely for the better. While I believe a lot of his own personal beliefs seep into his teachings, he really makes you think. And if you start thinking, you might start doing some digging on your own. I've learned a ton because of him.
Excellent teacher. Took BA200 online with her over the summer. Entire course is laid out for you on day 1, including every assignment and its due date. Grades are posted within 5 hours of due date/time, probably sooner. Can't say enough positive about her, really enjoyed this course. Absolutely will take a course with her again.
Its being years since I took his class, But I still remember this professor because of the amazing job he did in class. This class was one of the most interesting classes I have taken in my college life. His lectures open you up to a different world, a world that hasn't being thought of. His talks are based on statistics and not personal beliefs.
