He can get grumpy sometimes, but overall very nice and easy going. Makes his classes interesting and encourages discussion.
Lotz of notes to take! He writes tiny on the broad, so make sure u bring a magnifier to class. When u ask him a question, he asks u back for the answer. Overall, easy test but with no teaching skills!!!
Get cranky all the time. Be prepared to sit on the back row to avoid his questions.
Difficult to understand at first, but it is not too hard to pass the class.

hmm..this guy is not hard, he wants to have a lively class, but its very hard because he's extreme boring. Though, you could learn alot if you shown up for class and make sure to read the chapters somewhat. Good luck :-)
He tried really hard to be a good teacher. I know he had a lot of knowledge and idea about Poli Sci, but he is a really really boring teacher, and his voice is always stay at the same tone. The exam is not that difficult, if you follow his notes to study.

Very very boring -_-* He is easy as in you can sleep in class, fail all the test and still get a C. Don't need to buy the damn book. Just copy his sloppy notes on the board. Dont sit in front rows he will question you over and over.

He ia passionate about teaching and political science. Tries to involve people by asking questions.Once one is use to his accent, his is very clear. I learned alot from him.
He's an ok teacher. He's hard to understand sometimes but you won't really need to listen because you just copy the notes on the board and you'll be fine because whatever is on the board will be on the test.

One of the most knowledgeable professors at PCC. This man has impressive credentials...too bad many of you wish that his class was an easy A..You have got to earn it...maybe if you all listen to what he is trying to teach..you'd get an A too.
Excellent, got an A. Notes are outlined on the board making it easy to follow along. Tests are multiple choice and there's extra credit! You must be a good listener.Can get a B without reading text. He inspires and is charasmatic.

this guy is the most passionate instructor in the town, and the worst of its kind. difficult to understand. if you go for his extra credit class, expect to be out at 6pm if it says 5pm on the syllabus. that is passion!!!

IF you ask a question, he doesn't answer it because he doesn't not listen to you. He has too much hair growing from the inside of his ear. Whether you have a question or if you are answering his question he, he will not give you a proper response.
if you're a poly sci major...congrats. But otherwise...it's a BORING class. easy, but boring. Hint if you take class: just before a test take notes on study questions...so long as you know those answers you'll pass. EASY but BOORING. take if you can bear.

Excellent teacher...Did you know he has a PHd? He is Doctor Nyong, but you did not know that, thats how modest he is. He is an amazing professor. Sure he has a thick accent, but listen and you will do well.
Excellent Professor test are multiple choice. final some short essay question. Has a lot of good information i recommend.
I enjoyed this class. You can get by with just your notes for the first test, but you'll definately want to study out of the book for the other three. He says a lot of thought-provoking things and cares about the subject. Just give him a chance and study!
Nyong is decent. Sure, if you ask him a question he'll go on a rant because he likes to use every word in the dictionary but his tests are easy cause he gives the terms and a review the day before the test. Watch his hands, it gets real chalky. haha!

He is a very easy teacher, but goes over the same stuff over and over again; class after class. The tests are quite easy though, even though they are hard to get an A in, but B's are almost assured. Do extra credit and everybody gets an A.
I don't recommend this teacher!!! He is not easy. I studied very hard for every test but i still couldn't get an A... Plus, he isn't nice at all when you try to ask him questions.

Has a thick accent, but writes on the board. His grading method is very genrous. He is very knowledgable. If you take good notes in class and study them you are guaranteed an A. The material is not difficult.

Cool guy, tests are medium difficulty. Gives 4 tests 100 points each. Gives extra credit on tests. Another 40 points extra credit possible during the course. Take him!

Practically the WORST teacher alive!! My goodness its like someone took all hapiness and power to Speak OUTLOUD from this "teacher". Very Un-clrear Lectures, ALWAYS gets off topic, Extrememly hard to follow, has a mono tone voice that just makes you sleep like youve never sleep before! DontRecommend

Don't fall asleep in his class. Just stay awake and take notes. Write everything he writes on the board and you'll be fine. I barely did any studying and got a "B". And I don't even like politics. Take him! He's EASY.

Very hard to understand - low, monotone voice and thick accent. He does give you straightforward questions before your midterm and final though. I missed 2 weeks of class during the short session and still managed to pull a B in the class. Offers easy Extra Credit assignments!
He's one of the worst teachers at PCC that I have seen. He knows some about politics but he knows zero about teaching. He makse you sleepy in the class. Strongly recommended to take his extra credit assignments, or just don't take his class unless you want to see how bad his teaching skill is.

His class is like a history class. I can't understand a WORD he says.His voice is so monotone,& don't even get me started w/his accent. Before a test, he'll write like 50 terms or things to study on 1 side of the board & only 20% of it will be on the test. Such a liar. When u ask him a question, his answers are so unclear. Doesn't speak clearly, he gave keywords and essay questions before the exams, but the keywords didn't help much. Tests are not so hard, just read the book to pass this class.
Was a boring class and the teacher didn't help to make it any better. Test were all essay and were hard. Had to do 2 papers which weren't that hard.
i dropped his class the first day. he has a really heavy accent and even though i was sitting in the first row i couldnt hear a word he said. if your good a decifering geberish you may do well

Brilliant man? This guy is the worst professor I have ever seen in my life. He's not even at high school level. And whoever say's that he is brilliant is a fool. Nyung doesn't want to help you one on one. His test's are contradictory and he teaches you false info. Horrible class. Do not take this Prof.
I mean not a bad teacher , even tho u still fail a test he will give u a C or higer. But be prepared to write alot of notes. Its all abt taking notes and the midterm and final.
What a terrible teacher. Lazy and confusing. His tests are old stuff, which from the old textbook used long time ago. The new textbook do not include the stuff in his test.
He has a strong accent, so those who can't stand this DON't take his class. You have to learn everything from your notes and you must read the book to pass his class. Yes, he is difficult to understand a lot of the times, but everything you need is written on the board. Expect taking down a lot of notes. Don't be fooled though. This class is easy and he gives extra credit often.
Took this class last semester. He does have an accent but you'll start to understand him. Don't miss class cause what is on the notes is on the tests. Midterm and finals were essay questions but he doesnt expect a full page answer. As long as you answer the question you get credit. Just do the work and you can easily get an A.
when he first opened his mouth to talk I thought this guy was joking w/ his accent--I was waiting for him to say 'just kidding I really don't speak like that' -- still waiting! He's seriously hard to understand (HEAVY accent & bad diction). TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!!! I can't stress that enough-- and I actually like poli sci! Disappointing.

The key to Dr. Nyong is to SIT UP FRONT. Hard to understand his words and his writing on the board, but if you make the effort he is genuinely brilliant and you will learn a great deal.

Take good notes, memorize them, write a clear and concise research paper, and you should be fine. The accent is not a problem; he is very soft spoken, so if you want to understand, sit in front. It was not hard to get an A. Multiple choice tests were easy- it's all about the essays with this prof.

Words can't describe how horrible this teacher is. He lagged the first half of the semester and rushed the second half, I don't think he's aware that there's a class that hates him sitting in front of him. When you ask him a question, instead of answering, he goes on telling you how you should already know the frickin answer.
The key to Dr. Nyong: 1. Take a Summer/Winter class. 2. Sit up front (you can hear him clearer) 3. Get to class early (so you can write the notes from the board. 4. Take notes on EVERYTHING he says. Get the book it clarifies what he said in class. Durring the summer 2 scantrons and an Extra credit. If you know the material talk to him.

I have no idea why people like him can be a teacher. The standard of PCC to hire a professor shouldn't be this low. He may know some stuff but does not know how to teach at all! You have no idea of what is he talking about. He never answers your question clearly. Prepare to self entertain in his class because his lectures bore you to death!

Hated this class. If you have the time to take his seperate class for extra credit than great but with 5 other classes and a job I know I didn't! Only 3 tests, 25 questions, and if you do bad on one, you pretty much fail the class. Didn't enjoy his class. It's true that he only gives 3 tests total, the first about two months into the term and then rushes the next 2. Each test is 3-4 chs. from bk incl. class lecture. Gives an exhaustive list of key terms before test, but squeezes them into one sec. of board in sm. print! His thick accent made lec. impossible to follow.Ugh.
This box isn't big enough to cover everything he does wrong. Worst accent ever. Mumbles & whispers, he's completely inaudible! Covers the board in microscopic cursive and for tests he writes 100 terms on board and only 10 are on it. You basically have to teach yrself. AVOID!!! Take either Juarez or Westall instead.

He's a nice guy, really mellow. Has a bit of a temper if you don't pay attention or fall asleep. Has a thick accent that doesn't help, and he speaks really soft; but you can tell he knows his sh*t. It's interesting if you tray to pay attention... it's kind of difficult because he is boring. Just read the text and you'll be okay.
He is from African, maybe Nigeria. He do not show a clear lecture as long as you listen to his lecture, was boring and unclear. There arent lots of peopel to listen his lecture. Kind of boring.
It's not that hard to get an A if you keep up with current events. Lectures are repetetive and unstructured, take good notes and especially remember the New Deal! He's very soft-spoken- sit in the front so you get everything. Listen to NPR while taking his class and you will understand his references to what's going on in gov't today- it helps!

I could not understand him! I made sure I kept up with the reading because I didn't know what he was saying in class. I could only participate when he repeated the question several times. Maybe I'm dumb, or maybe his accent is SO thick! But he knows his stuff and I enjoyed what I could understand.

I'm in his summer class after reading the reviews. It's true that his lecs are boring as hell and he writes a ton of gibberish on the whiteboard. He never has a structured lec., so they are as spontaneous as his notes. Late all the time. He doesn't have a bad accent, but he talks like a girl - LOW. He lectures 2.5hr STRAIGHT and gives NO breaks!

Everything bad about Nyong has already been said. I took his summer class and got a B with an older ed. of the book + absent 3 days. Do NOT waste your time taking notes. All that you need to know are in the book. 5% of your notes, at most, will be in the tests. Learn Articles 1-6 of the US Const. 2 exams + 1 xtra cred - easy class. READ! NO NOTES!
his AC is always so loud.. it makes it even HARDER to hear him speak. he speaks very low. and i really couldnt tell if he assigned hw because i could not hear him. but when you look around and see nobody writing at the last minute, you know there's no hw.

I found that at first he was a bit boring but then you get used to the way he teaches and if you listen you can actually find a slight sense of humor in him. an easy teacher overall. not much homework.
I had Prof Nyong in the fall, he was a bit boring, the ac in the class was making it even more hard for me to hear...but as long as u attend class, write the notes and do the assignments it will be a breeze. In the class we had only 2 essays, 2 extra credit opportunity,a midterm and a final. I would recommend anyone to take this class.
I bought a $120 book that I NEVER needed. Deep accent & speaks at a barely audible volume. Boring boring boring.just sit stare & try to understand what he says.there is no interaction btwn prof & student. often times what is in your notes is not even on your test & difficult to find in book. For the whiners who are easily bored and are deaf, GET OFF YOUR CELLPHONE AND PAY ATTENTION! Mr. Nyong is old school: meaning he doesn't feel the need to entertain the immature youth in order to teach them. He is an intellectual who offers subtle insights into the issues of polsci. Yes, he does it quietly as not to disturb the simple minds.

Professor Nyong is by far the easiest professor at pcc, in my opinion. He had 2 exams. He gave us the exact questions on the test days before we took the exam so we could study. Extra credit for those who want it. I got an A

I really tried to pay attention in this class, I actually wanted to learn about our government. But after the first week you have no idea what's going on. Prof. Nyong is a smart, well-intentioned professor who really knows his material. His class is very boring and he has a fairly thick accent so it is often hard to hear him. If you are a good, intelligent student, you can manage without buying ANY of the books. Your grade is made up of 2 essays, and two tests (midterm and final).
Nice guy and very knowledgeable about the subject, not a good teacher. I took him during the Winter and there were only 2 tests, and an extra credit (15 points). His class was out of 200 pts (100 per test). READ the book on your own for each test! and do the extra credit. You'll do fine if you study on your own.

pol.sc is obviously not an amusing subject.so don't expect to be entertained in this class if u r one who gets bored so easily.he does have an accent and a low voice.but u can get an easy A if u take his notes,take part in class discussion and do the extra credits.he even gives review b4 tests and those tests are all based on basics.
perhaps WORST professor at PCC. can't understand a word he says, he doesn't follow any of the books, and your whole grade is based on 4 essays which are on topics totally irrelevant to class lectures. he also doesn't give reasons for why you get the grade you got on your essays.
Prof Nyong is the worst professor at PCC. He knows a lot about politics, but he doesn't know how to teach it. Before a test, he'll write like 60 terms on the wall and only five will be on it. His tests are totally irrelevant to his lectures and notes. Read the book if you want a B. You might get an A if you get lucky on the tests and do the EC.

I could not understand him, and did not project his voice. If you want to learn sit up front and drink some espressos before AND during class. If I fail the class, better believe I will not be taking it over again, at least not with him.
Professor Nyong definitely knows his material. I simply cannot understand a word he says. No matter how hard I would study his notes and read the book I could not be prepared for his tests. i think his class is great! who cares if he's boring. political science is a boring subject! i barely read or studied but did the extra credit and still got a B.

Do. Not. Take. No. Matter. What. let me tell you why. 1) cant understand a word he says, hes always whispering not to mention the horrible accent. 2) NOTHING he suggests we study for a test is ever on there. 3) NO homework grade whatsoever, so the only way to develop a grade is through tests, which are hard. 4) hes creepy.
Don't take his class, it's as simple as that. You can't understand him, can't read his writing, half the time he is looking up at the sky. And to top it off he has got a cane that he like to mess around with for no reason. A truely lost clueless person who should never be teaching kidergarten, let alone college kids.

Yes, everything you've read or heard is true. But the only person that is truly preventing success in this class is you yourself. Suck it up, try your best to pay attention, ask questions, read the textbook, and do the extra credit. It's only a measly two pages. Trust. Very helpful, will explain anything you ask, but sometimes hard to understand his accent and goes on for 10-15 minutes explaining something I could've said in a few sentences. Grade is based on only a couple tests and papers and he grades pretty hard, I did A work and got a B. Maybe 1 or 2 extra credit opportunities, I suggest you take them.
His accent makes it almost impossible to understand anything. He knows alot about the topic at hand but cannot word it in a way that will be understandable by most people. The class is very straight forward. If you do all the assignments you'll get a decent grade. He's an easy grader also.

Dr. Nyong is serious, yet great professor. He is nice and legit. His class is chill, so do not show up late to his class and have continous attendance issuance. Listen the best you can and write down all his notes. Read and study the textbooks and notes. Do any extra credit or assignment he assigns you. Seat in the front row seats and participate.

I don;t understand why these students don;t like Nyong when he is very nice and even though you cannot understand his wrtings and what his says during class than do the best you can and read your notes you wrrtien in class the best you can and read the textbook and study the vocabulary.
He is incoherent, handwriting illegible, three tests to base your grade off of, rude,almost always late to class, and is in no way whatsoever engaging. I suppose its an easy class but he is the WORST teacher i have ever had, if you can avoid it don't take this class it's mind numbingly boring and hes just an all around terrible teacher.
The professor presents a balanced approach to the U.S. government and brings up controversial issues in our society. However, his lectures focus too much on key words from the reading. The grade depends on 3 tests/attendance/extra credit. There is not enough engagement so people fall asleep all the time.
Professor Nyong is not as terrible as everyone is saying! He knows what he's talking about and gives great study guides for tests. There are group projects and he has plenty of chances for extra credit. If you have any questions, he always answers them. His accent and hand-writing are not that bad at all.

His class was extremely boring. I didn't understand one thing he said all semester. He mumbles and doesn't speak clearly. He was constantly repeating lessons we already went over in previous classes. Yes, it was a very easy class to pass, however it was not an exciting class to sit through. Not to mention he was pretty rude at times.
Nyong is an average teacher. You can tell he's interested in teaching, but a lot of students don't care so he may get sour sometimes. Other than that he's nice and his accent and handwriting are not the best, but they're not worth complaining over. Just show up, study, and do work and you will be fine.

Pro. Nyong is not so terrible as some comments. He offers many extra points for rising your grade. He will give the review 1 wk before the exam. His grade consist of one very easy group project, attendance, midterm and final. Made sure read the book and finish some extra credits then will be fine!
You can really tell he has a passion for this subject and knows a lot about it. His accent is thick but dont be fooled, you'll get used to it and find that you can understand the lecture.He teaches well,no homework,about 2 papers having to do with the text. STUDY. Really nice and helpful if you ask for help.Gives study guides, that will be on test.
Altho his accent is heavy & his writing is not the best, he has the passion in teaching. He's a nice n funny person. Very basic and straight forward class. He only lectures during class, no homework, two extra credits, and 3 tests. His tests are based on the notes. I hate when teachers only lecture but sometimes some good discussions did come up.

Mr. Nyong is a professor to take only when you have a fairly comprehensive understanding of political science. THOSE NOT FAMILIAR WITH POLITICS, RUN! He has a thick accent that makes understanding lectures near impossible, he isn't an effective teacher, but he does give many opportunities for extra credit. Avoid him if possible
My first impression of Prof. Nyong is that he is a straight up lecturer. As the semester progressed, he becomes more vague about assignments and tests and becomes sort of a pain in the ass because he treats his students like kindergarteners. His tests are not entirely related to the text, with random, difficult questions. Easy but incredibly boring
3-4 Ch Exams, 1 report, 2-3 EC. Grading system doesn't make sense. Returns scantrons w/o actual exam, so you can't check your answers. Worst of all, he doesn't make any sense. Entirely lecture. Book is useless because his exams are based on his sloppy, PRE-WRITTEN notes. Exams also FULL of trick questions. Studying doesn't help. A-student, got B.

This guy is the most boring professor I've ever had. He has an extremely thick accent which confused me all semester. He literally repeats the same material every class session. Essentially we aren't learning anything. He gives no work throughout the year. Your grade is 99% based off your midterm and finals. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

There is literally NO work for his class and no textbook. I did nothing the whole semester except study the midterm/final questions and got an A. There was also a group project but he did not seem to care too much about that. Lectures were AWFUL and he talks about random stuff.
There was literally NO homework for this class and only 2 textbooks which he didn't even follow with his lectures . He does however gives extra credit which I recommend you doing if you need that extra boost for your grade. Make sure you call in to his office if you are unable to make it to class due to emergencies because he doesn't read emails
This is a class you take if you are in it for the A. I did not learn a lot about political science and was often confused on what Prof Nyong was lecturing about. But I think there were 4 total assignments and they were all essays, plus an extra credit book report so if you can write you should do okay. No textbook use. But beware of group papers!
Honestly, such an easy class. Yeah sure, his accent makes it difficult to understand, and most of the time i found myself not dozing off and not paying attention, there is really no reason to drop the class. He gives study guides before tests, and offers lots of extra credit, and although I didn't learn much from him, it was so easy to keep up.
He only gave us 4 assignments: a short essay, the mid-term, a group paper, and the final, and they're all very easy. He's a smart guy, but his lectures are painfully boring and don't always make sense. I went to about 12 classes the entire semester, and I still got an A. But I couldn't begin to tell you what the class was about.
Professor Nyong has soft voice. He remains a calm tone even for the most frustrating political topics. He is kind and will answer all of your questions. His lectures are very informative. He usually bring up the most profound questions to his students. I wouldn't mind to take his class again for learning more.

Honestly I learned a lot from him, but nothing about political science. You kind of just have to keep up with him. He gives study guides and offers a lot of extra credit.

He doesn't use canvas, and I don't understand why he doesn't use powerpointt because it would make his lectures better, in the sense that notes could be written from that. Professor Nyong is respected amongst his colleagues (for the most part), and it should be noted that he is well accosted within the political science field. Now for his classroom, very boring lectures, and very very thick accent. Assigns one group project, and only provides a few written exams. Easy A, but still a very tough class to attend.

Summer course , moves fast
Dr. Nyong is a professor who is very knowledgeable about subject matter. However, we never used the books. He talks from beginning to end. Spare yourself. Go with another professor or choose another PoliSci course. There is a group project and youll have to buy a book so you can all crank out a paper. I didnt see the point - it wasnt on syllabus
Trust these reviews - spare yourself. Nice person but he is very biased and his lectures are messy. He only lectures about anti-Trump, I think students deserve an objective professor. You are graded on 3 things and his notes/lectures dont match up and are not like the test.
Lectures make no sense. He doesn't really go by the book. Group essays are assigned, and you keep the group for all assignments. Be prepared if you get stuck with people who don't contribute. Avoid if you can.

The class is extremely boring. Dont expect to learn anything in his class. It is hard to understand what he is saying since his voice is not loud and clear. He tends to talk on and on in a very low voice to himself. If you can take another professor then do it.

He is extremely knowledgeable of U.S. and International Laws. He is not a tough grader and will work with you if you do the work. Use the book to follow the lecture because it helps a lot. He is hard to understand over the a/c so sit in the front if you want to hear him and participate.

On a grading standpoint the course is easy, yes, but if you leave the class not having learned anything, it says more about you than anything else. He's of great help while in his class and will even go out of his way to help you on coursework from other professors. Very knowledgeable in US history, foreign policy and government.

Does not use canvas at all, also you won't know your grade until the end of the semester when it is posted on your transcript. Class is really boring, and you won't learn anything but it is easy and you have flexibility on turning in assignments
To be clear, this professor sucks and you do nothing the whole class. However, this is great if you want to add some extra units and get homework done for other classes. I usually take RMP with a grain of salt but please, I mean this in the most genuine, unbiased manner possible... DO NOT TAKE. Unclear grading, does not know how to use canvas, and most importantly, you wont learn. Youll be that much more behind when you eventually transfer and youll wish you had a competent instructor. Nice guy Im sure, but no.
Took him right when COVID hit. Him teaching online got so bad that a different teacher had to replace him. He'd go on random history rants that somewhat related to the class. Thought it would be easy, but it was a tedious type of easy. Online, he would not use Canvas and I wouldn't be able to contact him through his email.
