I had Prof Fallon for Business Ethics and it was a great course. Fallon is so intelligent and knowledgable. His course is clear and he is willing to answer any and all questions. I got an A in the course, but I have many friends who didn't do as well. Make sure you do the reading and you'll be fine. Overall, great course!!!
horrible. do not take. so boring, take great notes but do horrible on exams because i am not a good writer. avoid
Professor Fallon is young and smart and able to spin the material multiple ways, which is awesome. But for tests and quizzes (which are always open-ended) if you're not good at organizing your thoughts, you can just kiss a good grade goodbye
Ok so this class is beyond boring but he is not out to destroy your GPA. His lectures cover exactly what will be on the exam and there are no tricks with this guy. He loves when his students ask questions as well
He is pretty hot!!! However his class not easy. If you are not good at writing then avoid him please!!! I am a A student he destroyed my GPA I attended every class and participated but it doesn't matter. Its his way or the highway when it comes to writing everything is whyyyy why why. Avoid please
Ok Professor Fallon is an excellent professor BUT is a very hard grader. His tests are all short answer and open ended. Your ideas and thoughts must be well thought out and organized. He gives a couple quizzes, Midterm, Essay and Final exam. You don't have to Participate. It's mostly pure lecture. Will be a GPA killer, he doesn't hessite to give F!
The professor lectures a lot but its not very clear. His exams are about 3-4 questions essay based- the answers must be explained how he said in class. He is an extremely tough grader and even when you feel that you explained it all- he still wants more. Topics are just boring.
Before taking this class, I took both Ethics and Metaphysics (long story) and I have never taken a philosophy class this confusing and hard before. He speaks about every topic very ambiguously and when you ask a question he doesn't really give a clear definition or explanation of certain things. He ruined by 3.8 GPA by giving me my first C.
He's a tough grader. But he's very fair. He tells you exactly what he's looking for in open ended responses and in his essay (which was 25% of total grade). He's pretty laid back when it comes to most things. He likes helping students so this isn't a class to be shy in.
Professor Fallon may the the most boring human being I've ever met. He just sucks on his water bottle and lectures all class long. It goes in one ear and out the other without absorbing anything. Honestly, I fell asleep in the class, and created a twitter. You need to be a proficient writer to do well in the class because all the tests are written.
I absolutely hate this class. This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken in my life. His lectures make absolutely no sense he just says a bunch of random examples to describe things and it doesn't make sense. He is also an extremely tough grader and does not even give u feed back he does not hesititate to give you an F. DO NOT TAKE!
H is a tough grader
He is an extremely tough grader. Lectures consists of him rambling on for the duration of class with unclear ideas that if you don't remember you will fail his test. Test and Quizzes are all short essay responses. He does not give you any feedback for your responses either. Do not take him by any means find another professor with a higher grade
Stay away from this guy. He does not know what he is talking about, does not give clear explanations and examples, tough grader. And he gets mad and confused when students ask for clear examples
The course is almost entirely written, you have 2 written exams and an essay. He is very helpful for the essays and lets you know what your outline should look like and answers your questions about it. He reviews the exams beforehand and is pretty clear about the material on it. Lectures are boring, readings useless, but you get to use your laptop.
FRESHMEN IF U SEE HIS NAME ON UR SCHEDULE, ABORT MISSION. I REPEAT, ABORT MISSION, U WILL NOT PASS. Either try & get another professor or drop it and wait until next semester when u can choose which PHILO professor you get. Fallon knows it's a class NEEDED to graduate but doesn't seem to care if you're failing it (even if u attend every class)
He is the toughest grader ever!! Even if you write exactly what he stated it's still wrong unless you talk like a philosopher. He's a sweet guy but lectures are long and sometimes he gets stuck and becomes scrambled in his own thoughts. The class wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I'd say avoid him unless your a philosophy major. He's HARD.
Took him in my first semester despite reading all these comments. He's a great professor. If you don't understand something you can go up to him after class and ask and he will clarify the material for you. He is not a hard grader at all . Just be prepared to focus and take notes and some reading !
Took the class this past semester. Overall great professor. Gotta work for the grade, but it isn't too bad. Emailing him and visiting him during office hours is a life saver so take advantage of it. The paper isn't bad if you ask for help. He's really good at explaining when you're confused. His class inspired me to consider a minor in philosophy.
He, is a good professor. I do not understand why some people do not like him. He will absolutely pass you if you do you work , but if you don't you will surely fail. If you are a mediocre you should not take him. I really recommend him if you want to learn.
He is a great Professor
TAKE THIS CLASS hes awesome. makes sure you understand the class, is very passionate about the subject, two tests and a paper but he sayswhat he expects and what will be tested. hes funny and keeps stuff pretty lightweight and tells you when you should do a reading or when you can get by without it, most of the time youll need to pay attention
Hands down the most boring class i've ever attended. We had a quiz, a midterm, an essay, and a final. All he does is ramble on and on for the entire class. Also no matter how hard I tried, he never gave me higher than a B and never even explained why. Instead of constantly talking about what we would be doing in another class maybe fix your own.
Long lectures, they aren't too boring though. Only three exams, all short answers questions.
Prof Fallon is a young teacher, lectures the whole time in a monotone voice but if you're actually listening & trying to get the best of your money & time you'll realize just how interesting what he's saying is. 2 or 3 tests & a final, no essays anymore. Write a full page frnt & bck in the blue book for each q covering everything he said in class
If one word could summarize him perfectly, it'd be MONOTONE or BORING. Ngl, I have fell asleep in many of his classes. Has 3 tests including final and an essay. Talks majority of the time. Really have to pay attention though or stay on top of assignments to pass the class.
This is not an easy class. Do not take thinking your just going to go. I know so many people who had to Pass/Fail because of it. His tests (3) are worth 90% and easy based- you need to be specific or there is a chance you will get an F. If you take REALLY good notes, and understand the material - you should be fine. Attendance is mandatory too.
Dr. Fallon is the closest sju students get to an ivy education, in my opinion. He is brilliant and precise, and will review all the material more than once so that everyone understands. The class is lecture heavy, so be prepared to listen and take copious notes. He taught me how to think. He makes jokes occasionally. I absolutely recommend!
Primarily lecture based. VERY BORING. It's hard to stay awake and your grade is based off of 4 tests and they;re all written essay answers. He has no passion for what he is teaching and in no way does he relate philosophy to anything realistic for you to understand. Don't take him if you don't want to put in the effort to a boring class. Good luck.
He's a sweet guy! The class is pretty boring he just lectures start to finish but if you pay attention and take notes you'll be fine. He's a little bit of a tough grader so definitely include details. Not the worst class ever but not the best.
only three test, and each test is 4 questions so if you get one wrong you are at a 75, lectures are boring, really have to work for a good grade, basically impossble to get As, very hard grader
Please don't pay attention to the ratings below that are negative; the bottom line is that if you attend the classes, do the readings (one after each class) and prepare for the (3) exams, you will do fine. Professor Fallon is absolutely one of the most qualified, intriguing professors at St. John's. His lectures are enlightening and he is amazing!!
The best professor I have ever taken at SJU. I always recommend him to everyone. He is extremely interesting and actually teaches so you don't feel as though you're left out to fend for yourself. His lectures were ones I looked forward to. He is extremely smart and charismatic and an overall great person who is an amazing professor as well.
He talks a lot but if you can catch it all and rewrite it in your own understanding for the test, you'll get an A. Total 3 tests and attendance counts.
I really liked him as a professor. Literally participate like 3 times all semester and you'll get full credit. There is only reading for homework which you can youtube it instead. The essay was alright usually 5 questions/ 1 page for each question. I definitely recommend this class for sure.
He is very intelligent but he is the typical philosophy professor, very biased and very boring. He is really only concerned about what he thinks. He tries to engage students, but if you speak you opinion he will belittle you. As a philosophy major i've put up with a lot of bad professors, but this might be the cherry on top. 3 tests and a paper.
very subjective grader, class rubric is made up of essays and he gives his favorite students the grades he chooses. basically your grade is up to his opinion and can't be swayed.
Fallon is a nice guy, can be someone what boring so that can result to lack of paying attention. Doesn't really engage with his class. Test are very important, study the material which is somewhat difficult to understand. not really much to complain about him, the class is just boring and somewhat hard.
You participate like 3 times for full participation credit the whole semester. There's only reading but as long as you understand lecture you will be fine. He does have review sessions the class before the exam. The questions for the exam should be answered in at least 2 pages of the small yellow booklet If you still don't understand, crashcourse
Great professor!! Yes his classes can sometimes be a little boring as he lectures a majority of the time, however the topics are interesting. If there are any questions, he does not hesitate to answer them. Many students complain about his grading, however all he wants is for u to explain what u know. If u put in effort, he'll grade u well. 3 tests
The hippest philosopher at SJU.
Actually enjoyed his class surprisingly. He can be pretty funny and his lectures aren't too boring. I would take him again for sure.
Hes a great professor. The lessons and topics are so simple and he explains everything in such an understanding way. only 3 tests no papers, hw you just have to read the articles he gives. He is open to helping and is always clear. MUST TAKE! i have his class right now and he is easy if you actually read and take notes. ignore the bad ratings.
Fallon is calm teacher, doesn't ask us to do too much work. Just show up to class, write down whatever he writes, ask a few questions. For exams just make sure ur able to explain the material in ur own words well. 2 tests, final and participation is grading criteria. readings for hw but he explains it in class so no point in reading them
he was my favorite class this semester, his lectures are really interesting and thought provoking. 3 tests no papers. participation counts if you come to class, he doesn't expect everyone to raise their hand, but attendance does count. hw is just to read the articles he assigns. amazing professor, he made the topics easy to understand. cute guy too
Only graded on 3 tests that are all written exams. You have to be extremely specific with everything you write or else you won't get a decent grade on the test. Take very good notes and write down things even if he doesn't put it on the board. Read any assigned readings before class as well.
TAKE him. Not hard! You're bound to get an A or A-. He's an amazing professor. There are 3 tests including the final. They're all written tests. For the tests, you just have to answer 3 out of 6 questions with examples and explanations to show that you understand the material. You don't even have to participate in class.
His lectures were extremely boring and hard to sit through. He gave 2 tests and a final. He wasn't the worst but wasn't the best. He is very nice and tries to look out for his students.
Francis was cool, super chill, 2 exams a final ( each 30%)attendance and participation (10%), class was boring, he talks and writes notes on the board, just write what he writes and your good on notes. Raise your hand too. For exams, you have answer 3 questions using in-depth examples. difficult. drops you half a grade for missing certain pts.
I love this professor. His class isn't easy and he's a tough grader, but the class is very interesting and you can tell he's very knowledgeable. Lots of readings were assigned but if you don't understand them, he goes into depth about them in class. A test after every 4 or so classes.
K. so this is how it goes: 3 tests total all in essay format. You have to take very detailed notes because you'll need to be specific on the exam. Readings are assigned but he goes over them in class and there's also a review session before the day of the exam. Professor Fallon is a really chill and funny guy and I definitely recommend taking him.
a thought provoking class. he teaches interesting material that sticks with you. by far my favorite professor in sju. read your hw, review your notes and you will succeed. 3 tests all the same format that are just 3 questions. i recommend him to anyone for phil 1000c or 2200c. an amazing professor that made the class easy to understand and fun
People who rate this guy badly are ones who zone out in class. The tests are basically the notes he puts on the board so just show up and take good notes. Should have a higher rate
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever taken. Such a great course and material is really interesting. He does everything possible to get you to do well in the course and his passion for the subject helps to facilitate that even more so. Dr. Fallon is your best bet when it comes for philosophy courses, especially if you're into philosophy.
Professor Fallon is so articulate it's not even funny. I wish every day that I could speak as smoothly and coherently as he does. The course really opened my eyes to flaws in thinking about the human person and I carry them onward when I hear the things that people say in my every day life. It's been a great semester.
Great and insightful guy. In terms of grading, he was pretty rough in comparison to some other professors I've seen on campus. Exams are all written. You have to be extremely concise, or you won't make it. Don't skip class, or you will get lost in this course. Enjoyable course, but tough grading makes me think again.
Some of the things we learned were interesting but on the tests he wants you to write everything EXACTLY the way he explains it in class or he will be sure to find a discrepancy in your work. He is a harsh grader and the final essay for the honors class was graded as if we are philosophy majors.
He's very articulate and knows what hes talking about. But it's very hard to get a high grade on his tests. It's only a level one Philosophy class, and he grades us like a honors class.
Prof Fallon is very knowledgeable and insightful but every single class is a new lecture. He is more than willing to help students when they are confused but he is hard to follow sometimes, I honestly zone out a lot. He's a good guy, just pay attention during lectures. You have 3 tests during the semester, all short answer, so pay attention!
I thought philosophy would be boring, but he made it somewhat interesting. He makes it clear that you are responsible for your grade from the start. Essentially if you pay attention and try to understand the info, you'll be good. He was very willing to give you extra help anytime. Overall he's a nice guy and a good professor soo loves it.
Professor Fallon is awesome! A lot of students complain because he is a pretty tough grader, but if you pay attention and participate in class you will be fine. I never thought I would like philosophy but the way he explains things makes it so interesting. He's a really nice guy and is always willing to help students.
Prof. Fallon is a great choice. The material he teaches can be confusing or difficult to grasp. However, he lays it out in a way that is easy to understand. He literally gives you a heads up on what you should know for the short answer tests, just pay attention. He tends to spend more time talking about a topic if it is important so take good notes
Dr. Fallon grades you based off 3 essay format tests and 10% participation. He is very picky, and doesnt make his grading system or expectations clear. He will give you a C on a test just because one sentence in the essay threw him off. Pay attention during his lessons, and take notes.
Philosophy is a hard class to have a good prof in, but Fallon is it. He only bases your grade on attendance and three in class papers, no homework besides readings that he goes over. He explains the material so well and review it as many times as necessary, he is so good at putting the material in terms that non-philosophers will understand.
I am at the start of this course and I already want to drop. After watching his first videos of this course that he uploaded I can already tell hes going to make my life miserable and I am going to want to drop out. He legit did not say one positive thing and he makes it known as if your going to have a rough semester with him. dont take him.
I went to catholic school my whole life and am well rounded in philosophy and theology but Professor Fallon was a merciless grader. He gave relatively no feedback and his comments on my papers were rude to say the least. He said he would help and seemed reassuring but there was no improvement whatsoever
He is absolutely the worst professor I ever seen. I dont really understand why hes so miserable and why he makes it his life mission to make his students lives miserable, he should not have been a professor at all.. he legit needs to find something else to do as a career because TEACHING IS JUST NOT IT. Save yourself guys dont take him.
Let me clarify to the people who are thinking about taking this Professor class. Dont do it . His grading criteria is insanely impossible to pass, he openly encourages students to drop his course. That should speak to the character of this Professor, there are Professor at this institution that are horrible Professor Fallon is one of them.
THIS TEACHER NEEDS TO FIND something better to do with his life than ruining students GPAs for fun. I think he just has a very miserable life that his goal is to make all of his students miserable as well. He deserves to be fired and I will be reporting him. I promise you do not take this professor he sucks, he needs to reevaluate his life.
I feel like Professor Fallon just loves to give out bad grades to his students. He posts a bunch of confusing lectures on canvas and doesn't explain things clearly. When it comes to the test, he will knock off so many points over one sentence that you wrote. He is the world's hardest grader which makes it almost impossible to do well. AVOID HIM!!!
Took this class fully online. He is very dry. He posts videos in different modules. This class consisted of 3 tests which were the only things we were graded on. All answers to tests derived from the modules and nothing else. No textbook was needed. Overall, it is an easy class to get in A in if you just thoroughly listen to the recordings posted.
This is not an easy course and not an easy professor to impress. Unless you are interested in philosophy, this class will be a struggle. Professor Fallon may have good intentions but he is not afraid to fail everyone. Very particular when it comes to grading. DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU LOVE PHILOSOPHY!!
Fallon is prob the best PHI prof. Your grade is based on attendance/participation and 3 tests that are 2-3 short answers each. The only homework is readings that go along w lectures. His lectures are long, but if u take good notes you'll be fine. Make sure you study and you'll be fine!! I recommend him if u don't want hw but will work hard in class
I definitely learned a lot from this class. I would not take it again, but if I had to, I definitely would choose Prof Fallon. He clearly explains what he wants you to write on the test and will make sure to review everything before each test. You have to be in class and take good notes if you want to do well on the tests (4 tests).
Take Fallon!! No textbook and very little homework (only a few readings). Graded solely on 3 tests & attendance. All exams are based on lectures only so its important to take good notes. Gives a practice diagnostic test before the first test that doesnt affect your grade so you can get a feel for his questions. Reviews before all tests.
I was dreading having to take a philosophy class but Fallon made me actually enjoy it. The class is super easy as long as you show up and take good notes (basically everything he writes on the board, you write it too and you'll be good). TAKE THIS PROFESSOR you actually learn a lot
Professor Fallon knows what he's talking about and doesn't give any homework, but you do have to pay attention and take great notes. He gives three major exams, which are just essay questions that you get to pick. It's an easy A if you understand the material. Would take again, but take good notes!!
He is definitely proud to be a philosopher and teaches like one. At first, you will think the course will be really hard and you'll never understand his lessons, but you just HAVE to pay attention and write notes and you will do better than expected. 3 written tests plus 10% participation was the entire grade. Learned a ton + would take again!
Fallon is a great professor. His lectures are organized, well-structured, and easy to follow. As long as you show up and take good notes, there's no reason as to why you shouldn't get an A. Tests are essay-based and Fallon gives amazing feedback and is always available to help you out and clear anything up. Highly recommend taking his class!
Take good notes & pay attention. He is a good teacher, but he is a very tough grader. All short answer tests. Tip: come up with potential questions before the test and answer them. Also, look over notes to understand it. Ask questions! If you don't understand the main idea, you won't do well. I hate that the grade is solely based on 3 tests.
You can tell he knows and is interested in what he is teaching. His explanations are clear and easy to follow along. Found myself enjoying class even if I took it for credits.
He explained all the topics really well but he does go fast so if you skip class you will be lost. He also doesn't mind explaining things during class. He does an in-depth review before each test which helps a lot. Its pretty hard to make an A though you have to really understand the topics and be able to explain them thoroughly.
This class is straight forward- 3 essay exams worth 30% each plus 10% for participation. no extra credit Honestly, I think a lot of these reviews are unfair. Yes, the class is challenging, but prof Fallon will go over everything more than once in the class and outlines what will be on the test. If you want to really learn, take this course
Professor Fallon was truly the one thing that kept me going during my first semester at college. His class was so interesting and all the topics discussed felt like they held real weight and meaning to them. You are graded solely by 3 tests, one being the midterm and the other the final. He gives very clear notes and will explain things in depth.
I can honestly say Professor Fallon is one of the best professors I have had. The grading in his class is solely based on a few written exams, but he makes his rubrics clear, so if you go to class, pay attention, and take notes, you should do well. He is the type of professor who wants you to actually learn and take away something from his class.
Don't take this professor if you want to have a chance of passing. such a tough grader and makes class unbearable with his super boring lectures. You're graded off of 3 tests with the midterm being one of them, so if you fail one of the tests, you won't do well in his class. takes so many points off for one little mistake or if you're not clear.
im a bio major and I wouldn't take philosophy if I didn't have to, however, I found prof Fallon's lectures to be interesting. The topics were engaging, as long as you pay attention to them and are a decent writer, you shouldn't have a problem passing this course. however, if you skip this class you wont do good just because its so lecture heavy.
He was ok. Your grade is based off of 3 exams- no homework, no quizzes, participation doesn't really matter. I did not like his class because there were no opportunities to raise your grade if you do poorly on an exam. His voice is very monotone, but if you pay attention to his lectures (which he makes interesting) and take notes, you'll be fine.
This Professor is extremely hard to impress. He does take a lot of points off for the littlest things. His lectures are super long and very boring. He is an ok teacher. Personally I would never take his class again, it was stressful passing his class.
He's alright. He grades based off 3 tests only but he gives a clear idea on what you should do to pass. No homework. His lectures are interesting. If you take notes, copy what's on the board and study, you should be good.
He gives very clear and concise information and notes during the lectures. Seems like a genuine guy. Only thing to be aware of is his grading. 1 or 2 missed details on a essay-based test he gives could bring your paper down to a 60-70. SUPER tough grader. Only grades you get are the (3) tests and participation/attendance.
Lectures are heavy, but he cares whether you get the content. You don't have HW, but you have 3 essays/tests discussing the importance of what you learned. If you wanna pass his class, take a few hours and study. Copy down everything on the board and key details he says. After I began to study I started to really enjoy being in his class.
Very lecture heavy and if you miss a class it'll be extremley hard to catch up. He gives very little to no HW, and you're only graded on a few handwritten tests. BE SPECIFIC. Participation does not matter. You'll do good if you take notes and review the notes. It's very hard but he's a good teacher and genuinely cares about teaching the right way.
Don't pick him if you don't have any experience with philosophy. He teaches as if he's speaking to his coworkers and very specific on how he wants you to write a paper for the test. If it's not his way and it's still the right answer he's gonna take a lot of points off. I wouldn't recommend a lot of people dropped or withdraw this class.
In this class, you have to put in the work and effort. There is no homework. If you don't do the reading, don't write the notes in class, and don't show up to class, that is all on you. Fallon is very lecture-heavy. However, he wants his students to understand his discussion, so raise your hand! Just pay attention and study!
Great class but you have to be willing to put in the work to class. Try to actively listen to the class and write good notes and actually try to learn it because his exams are short responses in which you apply to material to answer the questions. Take good notes, pay attention, and you will do well.
Very lecture-heavy class, if you dont show up once you wont understand anything. His tests are essay based, notes are very confusing in class. He talks as if everyone understands philosopy already, if you want a easy A dont take this class as you will have to put in a lot of work. Grades really difficult and you will almost never get an A
He looks like he doesn't care what ur doing in class. His lectures are confusing. this class is all based on tests no hw at all but if you fail ur test that prob means u fail the course. i thought phil was what I think about the earth but ACC its what he thinks about life so ur opinion don't matter.
Grades are based on three fairly easy tests. You should not only write the notes he puts on the whiteboard but should write down the examples he says (helps to get an A on tests). He only gives readings for homework; he gives you the link to them. He holds review classes on regular class days.
The material is interesting and he explains it well, but it sucks that the grade is based only on 3 written response exams. It's basically just explaining what was taught to show that you know it. Definitely try not to skip cause you'll be lost without the notes. He takes attendance but it doesn't really affect your grade if you show effort.
Just attend class and you're good he was so easy.
You gotta be there for every class to get a good grade, if you miss a class you would be lost. Other than that there are only 3 graded assignments which are the 3 tests. Just study for them and listen to every lecture and you'll do fine.
Fallon's class is lecture-heavy, but engaging if you put in the work. Use Unstuck ai and take thorough notes to excel. No HW, just 3 tests - stay on top of the material.
be prepared to listen. the class is very lecture heavy and constant talking. also be prepared to pay attention because he makes very good references that can help you understand the topic (which will most likely be on tests). very particular with wording on tests as well, and won't hesitate to cut off points.
He only gives 3 tests, difficult to impress, and not clear on how to improve. if you fail the first two tests, you'll prob fail the course bc each test is 30%. He relies solely on notes from class, so unless you take good notes, the test will be difficult. No chance for extra credit, and the midterm is based on 1st test.
There are few quizzes and barely any online material but if you listen and take notes the quizzes will be easy and you'll find the subject matter interesting. He's cool. Don't miss a class or borrow notes if you do. He does review sessions, so that might save you.
I personally really enjoyed this class. His descriptions were always spot on and well written(or drawn). I didn't think I would like Philosophy as much as I did, but here we are. I took a Metaphysics class the following semester and didn't have to do much as most of what I learned in Professor Fallon's class had already applied.
