I had this prof for writing lab just once - helpful.
If you want to learn to write well and to improve your critical thinking skills, be sure to take Professor Fletcher's class. He is an awesome teacher and very helpful to students who need one-on-one assistance in the writing lab.
Mr. Fletcher is hard teacher. He teach me some english very good. I have hard time, and he help me office hour.
I had him a few years ago, he was my first college professor and left the biggest impact on my life of any professor since. He is really intelligent and asks you questions that make you dig deeper into yourself. He's awesome!
English is the worst class in my opinion to take untill I took Fletchers English 300 class. He has a lot of homework in his class but for the purpose of padding your grade. If you dred English and have to take an English class take it with Fletcher he will help you out with what ever you need
Mr. Fletcher makes things interesting and really helps people think deep. His class isn't easy, but if you try you will be just fine. Do all of the homework because it will really help pad your grade. Thanks Mr. Fletcher, you really helped me. I'll see you in British Lit!!
hes very smart and passionate about what he teaches. also extremely deep. i think i would like this class more if i cared more for literature, but its still really cool and you learn a lot. large workload though.
1A was one of my first college classes, and he still is probably the most engaging and critical-thought enducing teachers I've ever had. If you're not a good writer, you'll have trouble, but if you're up for the challenge prepare to learn an s-load. The only negative is the grammar work. Sucks!
He's nice, but I don't enjoy this class at all. He's very passionate and knowledgeable, but gets upset if you don't feel the same for the material. Intimidating and sometimes acts like an elitist. The workload is heavy but it pads your grade.
princess fletcher is a dreamboat
A lot of work but it pads your grade. He's really into the class but if you arent into it the class kinda drags on. Not extremely helpful.
I have learned alot from Fletcher's English class. The material in class was a change for me, so it was a struggle for me. It was a really good class. I learned alot, but I will not take a class with him again. too much work!
Absolutely hated him. I appreciate that he wants us to learn and do the work, but I don't like how pissy he gets if you don't have a deep love of the subject. He's not very helpful and is a little condescending.
If you want to improve your understanding and your writing skills--he's your man. His passion made the course of English more exciting and his reading selections added dimensions onto this course that gave it far more meaning; I found myself looking forward to his class--WOW!
Mr. Fletcher is a wonderful instructor. He is very passionate about British Lit and it shows. It's a tough class, but as long as you keep up with the reading and do your journal responses you will do okay. Not a class for slackers! I learned a lot and gained a greater appreciation for Brit Lit. Will take more classes with him.
One of the best English teachers I have ever had. Would take the class again in a second.
Fletcher is so smart and he also inspired me to take a bigger interest in English. I have improved so much with his classes. He may seem a little cold in person at first but he often raises interesting and funny topics in class such as his experiences with his drinking buddy. Also if you email him he always responds which is really helpful.
Francis Fletcher was the best teacher that I ever had. I wouldn't call his classes easy per say, but anyone willing to do the work will pass the class. The writing class I took from him helped me tremendously; he taught me more in a couple days than I think I ever learned in high school. His Brit Lit class is my favorite class I have ever taken.
he's amazing. he will answer any questions that you may have...he is very nice, easy-going, and the way that he wants any and everyone to be taught things that only ivy league schools teach is inspirational.if you have the chance...take his class...it can be somewhat difficult at times...but you won't regret it.
Unfortunately, I only had one class with Fletcher. In that one class though, I was impressed with the amount of critical thinking that you had to do. The selections that he had us read were beautiful and inspiring. He's right, Paradise Lost is the greatest work in all of literature! He made me want to become an English professor even more.
This is a hard class, but you learn alot. Sometimes I felt like I was taking a philosophy class, but it was still fun He is pretty funny and really believes in what he is teaching You need to buy all the books keep up on the reading becuase all your essays are based on the reading HW is easy it is to help your grade becase he greades hard on essays
Very disciplined educator. Strict but fair, hard but understanding, and one thing that stood out was his love of the English works, art, wtf ever one wants to call it. He will make work for an A (I got a damn B because i bombed an essay), but he is one of the best teachers I have had and I H-A-T-E english.
Professor Fletcher knows his subject matter and really helps students who need additional help in preparing essays. He is interesting and invites students to participate in classroom discussions. If you want to learn to write and think analytically, take this professor.
Fletcher is the best English teacher you will find at any college. He is passionate yet makes things simple to understand. He is extremely helpful with writing essays, as long as you ask. He is a tough grader, but his grading is fair and clear. If you stick with him you will learn so much and will become a better writer.
he is nice, but very hard. he gives really hard essays that have annoying subjects. i would not recommend this class.
Challenging but will really impact your view.
Here is the problem that I have with Prof. Fletcher. He is a great teacher and all of that, but I am not willing to put forth that much effort for a measley ENG300 class. If ENG is your nitch, he is a great teacher. If you are a science major like me, his class is not worth the time.
Interesting prof. He has a very distinctive personality, which sometimes struck me as acting "superior" than the students. However, he really has a passion for what he teaches and it shows in his teaching. Take him if you want a thought-provoking and challenging class!
good teacher. liked to talk about alcohol and sex pretty much every class meeting. learned a lot. good english teacher. homework was easy, essays a little difficult. would recommend.
Prof. Fletcher is a good teacher and is passionate about this subject, but the way he grades an essay is sort of extreme. If you're an english major, I would strongly recommend his class, but if you're a science major, like me, forget it. It'll eat up more of your time than you'd expect.
very knowledgable and interesting
Awesome, awesome teacher. Lots of people say the class is hard, BUT ITS NOT IF YOU SIMPLY TRY. Before Fletchers class I dreaded english; it was my worst subject. But Fletcher makes everything so clear and really gets you thinking outside the box. He is a VERY fair teacher! You really end up getting the grade you deserve. Couldn't be better.
trust me when i say this i have had a horrible english teacher the first time around. I had a low D and dropped, with Fletcher I have a high B and in all honesty don't do anything different. BEST ENGLISH TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! you learn a lot, plus he grades everything easily, the essays are a little more difficult but guaranteed B at the least
He's great... if you want to take philosophy! You have to turn in 2-page papers every day and in that short space explain things like the meaning of life and he's always surprised when you can't do it that quickly. He never gives clear feedback... only asks questions. My other classes suffered so I could sell my soul for a C+. Take Johnston.
Fletcher is a difficult teacher but that can be a bad or good thing. My writing definitely improved over the semester but the price was really hard work. If you plan to major in English then i would definitely recommend him. Otherwise you can get probably get an easier A somewhere else.
Great professor if you are interested in writing about interesting questions. 100% of all the work in this class relates around philosophy which I think is GREAT but expect a hard class. Francis kind of reminds me of Neo from the Matrix if anyone else has seen a similarity.
One of the best professors on the entire FLC campus. Really knows the material (literally has some poems memorized) inside and out. Helps bring a better understanding of sometimes cryptic poetry, evening relating the works biographically to the poets or authors themselves.
Fletcher is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He actually caused me to like English. His class is will make you grow as a person; there is a lot of wisdom embedded in the assignments and his teaching. If you want to have one of the best teachers at Folsom Lake college and grow as a person then by all means take his class.
Fletcher was the best English teacher I have ever had. I worked my butt off for an A, but I walked away learning soo much. More than I ever expected. It's completely possible to get a good grade if you actually try and always turn everything in. He's not very personal or friendly in person, I could never figure him out. But he is a very smart man.
if you could describe this guy in one word it would be Ninja. his quick mind and eratic movements will almost always keep your attention. those of you who don't like to think outside the box shouldn't take him, cuz hes going to make you think and question just about everything. i would recomend him to anyone whos not lazy.
Fletcher is a great english teacher. There is a lot of work, but he grades fairly. You cannot slack off in his class, if you are looking for an easy grade go to another teacher, if you want to learn about rhetoric, take Fletcher. If I could I would take this course from him again. One of the best teachers at FLC, but also one of the hardest.
great teacher, helpful, world champion stick fighter, full of surprises...
Awesome teacher. Excellent. Changed my life, opened my mind and so much more. TAKE FLETCHER FOR ENGLISH!!!!!!
Very interesting to listen to him, however his assignments were so boring!!!! I felt like i was in philosophy class not an English class. I've enjoyed his lectures in class, but i've detested reading the book. Not everybody understands philosophy, and those who do enroll in PHILOSOPHY classes not English. I've barely passed his class with a C. he
Fletcher is the man! I hated english, but know I definitely appreciate and even like it. He asks a lot of his students, but you learn so much from every assignment. There is no "busy work" in his class, as everything has a purpose. If you want to be a great writer take him, best professor I ever had, can only hope to have more like him.
His class is a philosophy class, not an english class. all the assignments are easy except for the essays, the ones worth like 50% of your grade. he grades those so hard, I have never been able to get an A on a single one, and I was trying to. don't take him, its entertaining but you won't find an A in this class, its impossible.
He was very interesting...If you do all the assignments the right way then you will get one hundred percent on them. The essay topics were hard but not impossible. He offered some extra credit and we could use notes on our quizzes. I got an A in the class.
AMAZING! Not the easiest class, but I got so much out of his class. Highly recommended! (This is coming from someone who has never enjoyed an english class before this one)
Not the easiest class, he grades essays super hard. Getting a B in his class was not that difficult as long as you at least try doing the work. He is a very entertaining teacher and I liked his class overall despite the difficulty.
Francis is awesome. Easy to look at and hard to comprehend. Always attend class it is definitely mandatory and never miss your reading because you will always be tested on it the next day! He gives good study guides, just put in the time to study them.
Fletcher is the best english professor you will have at Folsom. I had him for lit 310, 311, writing 302, and would take any other class of his I can get into. Highly recommended if you care about learning something about yourself, life, and most of all english. Francis is a boss.
Fletcher is an amazing teacher. He is VERY hard, I got a B, but I'm more proud of it than most of my A's! He is fair though. I loved his class and hope that I will be able to have him again.
I've taken Fletcher for two classes, and am the process of the third. He's an awesome teacher, very interesting and loves his subject- very intelligent. You have to take the time to read and take notes, essays seem to be the hardest part. But if you want to learn this is the class to do it in! Defintely will take any other classes he teaches!
The homework was easy enough, but I could never get him to go one-on-one with me about my essays, what went wrong with them, nor how to improve them. He was utterly UNAVAILABLE. For a student with documented Learning Disabilities and enrolled in DSP&S, I can only discern that he is LIMITED in his ability to instruct at the public level.
English Lit 340 is really easy and interesting because of him. He's very laid back. His homework assignments are easy and so are his quizzes. He's not a hard grader. He has a nice speaking voice, which makes listening to him read aloud in class enjoyable. The readings he assigns are usually pretty good, too. Take Fletcher for English.
GREAT TEACHER! his class seems more like a philosophy class as opposed to a traditional English but i still enjoyed it. EXTREMELY helpful, especially for tests and essays.
I just went through my old school papers and realized that it's no wonder I left this class and didn't go back to college for five years. This guy decides your grade on a paper on how well you agree with him. That is all I could gather from the notes he left on my papers. Useless teacher. I learned nothing.
well versed...enjoy listening to lecture...not for the idler...
This class is ok, it feels like a philosophy class most of the time and all the essays prompts are very vague. Overall the class is alright, but essays are graded very hard, make sure you do the hw and dont be late
I love this class! Fletcher is an amazing teacher!!! He opened my eyes to a whole new way of writing! The topics you write about are interesting too. Take this class u won't regret it!
12 short homework assignments; 5 take home essays; 1 in-class essay; 4 open note in class quizzes; 1 in-class speech. This class was hard but I learned a ton. He grades his essays extremely hard, and I had to work extremely hard for an A in the class. This class is not for the student who does not want to put in the extra effort.
his voice is easy on the ears. easy grader. has a passion for literature. class discussions are very thought-provoking. would take again.
Solid, solid teacher. He should actually be teaching at university--no doubt will eventually. He has a fair standard of grading which he doesn't bend for anyone. It's an easy class for good writers, but for the lesser gifted (like myself), a special effort is needed to write at the level he expects. I worked very hard for my A.
Highly Recommend! He doesn't just teach, he makes you think. He digs down into the philosophy of it all. Definitely a great professor. Someday he will be teaching at a high class University.
Knowledgeable, but class lacked energy&participation Bcause he kind of led the students 2 give whatev analysis his own feelings were on texts,¬ have original thoughts of their own on the works.Unapproachable vibe&the few times I asked him a ?,gave a slightly rude answer 2 let me know that I shouldve been able 2 figure it out. Good pick of texts.

Really good teacher, friendly and super helpful. Extra credit available which is great. He is a really happy guy and encourages class discussion. I really liked him and highly recommend him for everyone else!
This professor spends the bulk of the class reading in a hurried, stumbling tone, then asking students to analyze passages. Most of the class is spent in uncomfortable silence. It was clear this professor loves British lit, he just doesn't inspire anyone else to. If this was my first lit class I would have never taken another one.
Francis is a great teacher... He grades his essays really hard, but the rest of the material is for mitigating that. Spend most of your energy on your essays in this class.. He is extremely clear and if you pay attention/ try to absorb everything he teaches you will learn a plethora of English goodies! He is slightly unapproachable, just a warning.
I took a class from him a few years back and thought he was a very fair teacher. Overall he was one of my favorite teachers at flc.
Fletcher is extremely difficult to understand. He reads in hurried, broken tones, and expects the class to read his mind. He is very vague with his essay assignments, and wants specific answers without properly explaining the question. He constantly smiles arrogantly and looks at the class as if we are stupid. Very frustrating instructor.
Fletcher is an excellent English Lit teacher. He forces his students to look at the text with a deeper, richer perspective and exposes them to a wide variety of classic British works. You will read A LOT and it is crucial to go to class but the homework isn't too difficult (a 2 page response every other week) and his grading isn't too bad either.
Fletcher comes off pretty intimidating and his essays seem really difficult, but if you just pay attention in his class and actually come to class its really not that bad. The essay prompts might seem really overwhelming, but he goes over them extensively. He does go over grammar which is nice. There is no final, just an essay!
HE is an excellent professor.
Well planned curriculum. I learned a lot about important fundamental works of literature. If you are interested in learning the craft, this is the class for you. If you are not interested in learning the craft, but need to fill a requirement, I would imagine Fletcher would not be a good choice as he does require the students to read difficult works
GREAT TEACHER! Francis is awkward in a good way. Essays are abstract and difficult, but he's a fair grader and actually gives some slack to eng 300. Very smart with philosophy/arguments demanding complete explanations. The short 1 page assignments are kinda fun. You learn a lot! Essay takes place of final.
Knows his stuff but didnt get what I wanted out of his class. Read amazing txts but discussions were lacking:him mumbling through a passage too quickly & asking a question. But bcause he comes off unapproachable few people want to participate in discussion. Without discussion, the critical thinking doesn't happen & it makes for a very boring class
I found it super hard to keep up with the reading even when I was reading more hours than Id take on any other class. Although he is intimidating I think he understands the difficulty for some. His quizzes are fine if you know the material at least a little and he covers over alot of the important stuff when he is talking. TAKE NOTES WHEN HE SPEAKS
I found his English 300 class to be very very difficult. I would recommend this class if you are willing to work for your grade and improve your writing. My advice is that you START THE ESSAYS EARLY. You can send your drafts to him until the moment the paper is due. He gives great feedback, which makes it easier to get good grades on the papers.
Very helpful teacher! Helped improve my writing alot, but it is a difficult class. You need to be willing to work for a good grade. He likes to focus more on the philosophy side of english.
Great intellect, certainly knows his stuff. Good content as far as the class goes, but he moves through the material quickly so try not to miss class. The only thing that "pads" your grade is the syllabus test, so READ the works. He will make time for you if you have any questions.
Great teacher! He helps a student critically think and by doing so, one would become a better writer. He introduces philosophy within his assignments which is great. I would recommend anyone to take his class. He is not easy but taking his class is definitely worth it. You won't be disappointed.
Fletcher was very knowledgable about the material, however I found his daily quizzes useless because he focused more on dates and settings (ex: where in the French Alps did the poem take place?) which I found frustrating and felt that he should focus more on the core concepts of the poems/literature. Tests are easy if you're a good note taker.
He is a very helpful teacher, but I wouldn't recommend his class if you're looking for an easy A but if you're willing to learn and work hard then I would recommend his class, while it is not an easy class he is a very dedicated teacher and will do whatever he can to help you he expects a lot out of you but he is a fair grader
Very difficult but it was totally worth it because I feel like I learned more in one semester than I have in all my English classes in High School combined. Essays will make you really think and analyze so many different aspects of life.
I took this professor for several English and Literature classes at FLC. He is definitely one of my favorite professors there! He is very passionate about what he does, and, if you actually do the ready and participate in class discussions, you will succeed. He is shy, which may come across as unapproachable, but if you ask for help he will do so.
This is not an easy class by any means. In fact, in his syllabus Fletcher states numerous times that his course is "difficult," and he isn't lying. But, he will help you in every way he can. He provides outlines for the essays, and will look at your drafts and send you feedback of how to improve. My writing improved a lot this semester.
This is the best teacher I have ever had. His passion for literature drove the syllabus and we read amazing literary classics. Don't take him if you're just filling a requirement. Do take him if you are open to idea expansion and personal growth.
Easily the best teacher I have studied under. Not an easy A but well worth it.
A lot of reading. And I mean a lot if you want to pass. You can sparknote all you want, it's not enough to get as many points as possible for daily quizzes. Don't let that scare you though, they're pretty easy. Spends all lectures going over the stories you read to prepare you for the tests. Just read.
A good teacher but his format gets a little dull if you take him two semesters in a row. He is passionate about Eng. Lit. but he goes through it so fast I feel like I missed a lot of the value. I don't know if I would take again. I know he is naturally reserved but I found him difficult to talk with. Maybe a personality thing.
Prof. Fletcher is a great professor. Knows the material and teaches it extremely well. He is shy and stern, which an make him seem unapproachable. When you go into office hours he's extremely helpful. He's a very smart person and is very well educated.
Professor Fletcher is an excellent teacher he love his subject and knows everything about it even down to the weird facts. He was very helpful in his office hours as well as in class. He has quite a few stories that make class pretty fun. His homework is great and the in class tests and quizzes are super easy. Honestly, the best teacher there!
Fletcher is a really good professor because he really loves the topic he teaches. The class is a bit boring. Quizzes every day in class. I feel like I actually got smarter; not just learning facts. I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but most of the works assigned were very thought provoking, but others I fell asleep while reading.
This is my second time taking Prof. Fletcher and I'm signed up for a class next semester as well! Super fun classes; he's interested in what he's teaching and it makes you more excited to learn. Daily quizzes-5 questions, very easy if you did the reading. Tests are all open note except for the final, no midterm. Homeworks are due every other week!
Accessible outside of class, funny teacher overall. Seems awkward, but you quickly realize he is just the way he is in a not awk way. Has fun in class, daily quizzes, 4 tests open book, multiple choice final, hw two pages due every two weeks. SUPER doable.
Professor Fletcher is a very thorough teacher. He gives helpful feedback when you are wrong. He gives straight forward homework assignments that coincide well with the readings. So, if you read the material, the odds are in your favor. If you don't do the readings though, you will mess up on the 20 daily quizzes and the 4 tests. 4 extra quizzes
At first impression Professor Fletcher might seem strict, but he quickly loosens up as the classes go on. He is very thorough with his grading, mentioning numerous times that he reads through your essays 3+ times. He is a tough grader but gives great feedback for you to take into account on your next essay. He WILL make you a better writer.
Fletcher is definitely the prof. you want to take if you have a lot of writing in your future. He prepares you to write the essays he assigns and even lets you email him your papers before they are due for feedback. But NOT an easy A!! you have to work very hard if you want to succeed and put a lot of time into the essays and homework.
Professor Fletcher is truly passionate about literature-I almost wish his class was longer so he could continue to give his insight on the assigned readings. He deserves to teach at a prestigious university. There are many pieces of literature covered, so just be aware if you don't like reading. Enroll in his class if possible; he's amazing.
Professor Fletcher is one of the greatest teachers I have had in the English area, he provides a lot of feedback and grades work in a very timely manner. You will actually learn in this class, there's a lot of reading but if you do all of it you should be fine. Attending his office hours to review some of the more advanced readings will benefit you
I was a little worried about taking a class from Professor Fletcher because of some of the negative reviews I saw on here, but he is AMAZING!! The most thorough and caring prof I've ever had. He truly wants you to succeed! You just have to put in some work . So sad I cant take a class with him this semester.
In terms of teaching english literature, professor Fletcher is really amazing. You have to do the reading, but if you do the class becomes very enjoyable. You feel like you are learning every lecture and professor Fletcher is always there to give you help if you need it.
Fletcher is AWESOME! One of my favorite professors at FLC. At first he seems quiet and boring, but he is deceptively funny and very clever. Lots of enjoyable, open class discussions. I'm not an English major but this was one of my favorite classes (Arthurian Lit). Quizzes are random, but you get EC too. Note key details about the stories!
I graduated from FLC in 2011 and I still remember Mr. fletcher. I love him. My best teacher.
