He is a very nice man, and tries very hard to make sure everyone understands the material. He is a little vaque on some things, and the tests are more dificult than expected, but he grades on a curve and wants everyone to pass.
He's really nice, but pretty boring!! Good class discussions, but boring lectures Alot of text book reading that you have to do cause thats all the midterms are about- there are about a million midterms, but no cummulative final! I would take someone else
Very boring, but I don't think he can really help it too much...it's his voice. But his class was so interesting and if you do the study guides you are garaunteed an A.
Ha is a great teacher. I love watching him drink water. In this course, he curved his tests so that about 25% of the class got A's. A majority of the class is group discussions, and I highly recommend it (if you can deal with the idiots in your class making absurd comments).
This is the second class I've taken with Ha. I think he is only boring if you don't care about what he has to say. H curves tests so it is very easy to get an A.
hard use the study gidesif you take his class
Was not a good class. Couldnt wait to get out. Lectures are very dry and boring. Hes very nice but not so interesting with the lectures.
not a good teacher

Man Ha is the coolest professor out there, it's hard to say why, but if you have his class he is totally cool, also he knows what he is talking about and can make good examples
Boring and Slow
Oh man...so...so...SO BORING. Nice enough guy, but needs to take a speech class. Maybe some new ideas to make class more interesting. Class is easy enough though.

Ha was a very nice guy, but somewhat lethargic.. someitmes I wanted to shake him to get his words out faster.. prolly the easiest class i've taken.. he practically gives you the test to take home and study. Good guy.
i took it online and it was great :) the tests were a lil off when we took them IN class... but it was good
His lectures are really boring, but his tests are fairly easy. And he drops the lowest test, so if you do alright on the tests you can drop the final.
There is teaching and there is brainwashing. Nice guy but just too radical to be teaching. If you disagree with him he patronizes you like you just don't get it. Forgets that he is teaching THEORY and not FACT.
This guy drove me crazy. The class was so boring that it was extremely hard not to get up and leave, and yet he made it a big deal when somebody would leave. His choice of wording on the tests isn't the greatest, but the essays are easy. He will add points to tests to get a curve and drop your lowest score. Kind of hard class, take it w/ some1 else
The worst teacher in a long time. Not straight forward. Brought down my GPA. Don't take him unless you want to pull your hair out in frustration for a entire semester. The writing assignments were hard to understand. Maybe they were like 3rd year Sociology. Frustrating.
His class was pretty boring, but he is a funny guy. To me his test were hard, and we only had four tests throughout the whole semester. Read carefully. Even though i didnt do well on his test i still passed

I was really looking forward to taking this class...unfortunatly i got Frank Ha as my teacher. What a joke of a teacher he is...I can't believe he hasn't been fired. Extremely boring, un-inspiring, leads terrible lectures and discussions. Everything you learn will be from the text book (which sucks to read and has huge chapters). Not too hard.
Good teacher, focus more on the reading and less on the lectures. Over half the class didnt attend more then half the time. An easy 'B'..
If you feel like memorizing every statistic in the the textbook then go ahead and take the class. He is not very clear on what you will be tested on - Tests are extremely difficult and his lectures aren't too helpful/informative.
This is a very BORING class! Ha is a nice enough guy, but he is a terrible lecturer. I wouldn't even bother attending class because he is so difficult to follow and understand. Very scattered and unprepared. Tests 99% on the reading material. Multiple choice test questions are incredibly vague; hard to do well. That's why he grades on a curve.
Teacher rarely faced the students during lecture. Was not engaging or helpful. Made you feel very stupid if you couldn't understand a concept.
tons of reading, monotone, a lot of people drop his class
Good teacher, dry sense of humor, open to questions. Lots of reading, no homework, graded on exams. Ha provides excellent website for class info and study guide material. Several films shown. Extra credit for even small amount of class participation. Friendly guy.
His tests are fairly hard but he offers participation points and grades on a curve. Please understand this class is pure socialism/communism. We studied and referenced the majesty of Marxism the entire semester. If you hate capitalism, the free market and feel everyone is not responsible for their actions and welfare then you will LOVE this class.
A really nice guy, made everyone feel comfortable. Lectures were pretty long, kind of mono tone, but a good sense of humor. Not a difficult class, but a ridiculous amount of reading.
Very dry teaching style, somewhat unorganized. Very hard to learn from - which makes reading the book rather a necessity.
He doesnt really teach much, because this is his "advanced class", so we just talk the whole time about whatever. A buttload of reading and medium-hard tests, but easy easy essay grades and a generous curve. Don't take 202 unless you need it.
I took this guy first in Fall 06 and failed the class. He isn't very organized and had dry conversations during class time. I had to retake the class because he was one of the worst teachers I've ever had. If you are going to take this class, expect to read a lot from the book and not learn much from Ha. Hope you are a good guesser for the tests.
He's really into class discussion. The class is really interesting, and he curves the tests.
Worst Teacher I've ever had! Leaves in the middle of class just after eating a snack pack. To lazy to actually grade anything himself and relies on computers to do so. Has no personality, likes to stare at the wall when speaking. And talks 1 word per minute. I suggest you take this class online. It might work out better for you!
One of the most forgettable teachers i have ever had! He teaches nothing expects you to learn from reading essays and then quizzes you on them months later. While he may be a very educated guy he does not belong in a classroom.
This class with ha is completely rediculous. I took every single test like 3 weeks late and he didn't care. The lectures were so incredibly dry. Even when I did end up going to class i fell asleep the entire time. You learn everything from the readings and nothing from him. He should not be a lecture teacher AT ALL.
Horrible teacher! cant even understand a word he's saying 90% of time, I'm positive any other teacher is a million times better at teaching sociology. all you do is read all 3 of the books for the tests, don't take this teacher, most boring class and unhelpful teacher in the world, only class i failed, and than took psychology and got an A.
This was the most pointless class. He could care less if you took every test late, on your own time (which i literally did every test)The tests are straight forward, class is completely not necessary. His lectures are very dry and directed at the wall. He is a nice guy but seems lie her could be doing something better with his time.
I'm a pretty hard working student and have always gotten good grades, but this teacher is HORRIBLE, most boring, useless class i've ever taken!! The test are really hard and usually have little to do with what he talks about. Take another teacher if you are actually interested in this subject. I learned almost nothing in this class!
I did not learn anything in this class. The tests were difficult because they were so detailed on all the reading (which is a lot and there's no way you can remember it all.) The one positive... he grades on a curve. Would have failed, but ended with a B.
His lectures are hard to follow, and he uses the google search engine and wikipedia to guide most all of his lectures. All the test questions are covered in the reading material (which we don't go over) so everyone's test grades are low. THANK GOODNESS he grades on a curve or I'm afraid nobody would pass.
Going to this class was a waste of time, lectures are pointless, interesting subject but he is very prejudice, five tests a semester you just have to show up for the tests and do all the readings. A lot of reading for the class. do not take if you are not that interested in the subject or if you do not have a lot of time to read
There is no point to going to class as he doesn't take attendance. His lectures are confusing questions on the test about some slide he showed you in class for 5 seconds (No joke). Read the book and go to class on exam days and you'll be fine. Thankfully he curves the tests because everybody would fail. I winged one and after the curve got a B.
Loved the class. Excellent teacher.
Prof. Ha was extremely helpful and willing to take the time needed to assist me in my studies.
Mr. Ha is an awesome professor. His lectures are full of information and well organized. He is very caring and willing to help you succeed. Make sure you do all the readings.
Dr. Ha's class was great. It was a perfect "no stress" course after having some extreme classes. I mean "no stress" in a good way. I learned A LOT, and found all of the info very relevant. To pass with a good grade you simply need to care about your GPA. The reading can be dry sometime but the subject matter always varies to spark some interest.
If you care about your GPA you will get a good grade, period. It's a great no stress class after taking some heavy courses. I hate to say it's an easy A because you have to show up, pay attention, and do some reading, but that really is it. He does EXTENSIVE review the class day before the test which pretty much spells out what you need to know.
This class opened my eyes to the world and Ha was a great, passionate, and informative. He enjoyed and encouraged students to speak up and discuss material. He always let you know what was going to be on tests and was always open to talking outside of class or after to help students with anything they were having trouble on. A worth it challenge!
Dr.Ha, is an excellent teacher, who is passionate about Sociology. He is also a kind and understanding person, who always makes himself avaiable to students who need his help. The class lectures are in power point and available onlne. They cover reading assignments and a study guide review for exams. A great plus! A great course! Enjoy:)
Dr. Ha is a great teacher. He cares about sociology not only as an academic subject but as a way of looking at one's place in society. He is really helpful, and I highly recommend going to office hours to ask questions; he has lots of useful and insightful answers. There is a good amount of reading (it's college), but the essays are interesting.
Great discussions in class, but totally boring and useless lectures every day. Monotone and boring, I fell asleep in class numerous times. As long as you read the material and sow up for tests, a passing grade is obtainable. I wish I would've taken it online and skipped that class time!
I wouldn't say the class was "easy" because there is actually studying and reading involved in a few different books. I did the 9 week course online. He makes the assignments very clear and simple. I enjoyed the discussions and the tests are very easy if you did the assigned readings. I loved the class!
strait-forward class. show up for lecture and take mediocre notes and you will pass all of his tests. do the assigned reading in addition to the note taking and you will ace all of his tests. attendance is not required and not necessary because he puts all his slides and lecture notes online. good discussions, interesting reading material.
GREAT teacher. Prof. Ha is awesome with his feedback and his input. You REALLY need to stay up on the reading or you'll fall behind. It's a heavy work load, but well worth it and the discussions are fun and engaging.
SUPER easy class. All I did was show up for class, go over lectures and study guides for the midterms and do the 5 hw assignments and I got an A. Kinda boring class, and he is a little awkward, but hey, its and easy A!
Took this class and was amazed by how easy it is. Ha is very awkward, but it's not unbearable. Don't buy the textbook, you wont need it. Take this class if you want an easy A.
This was a great class! Although I am not a sociology major, the material was thought-provoking and fun to learn. Dr. Ha is very clear about what is necessary to get an A. I felt like the so-called "awkwardness" people have mentioned was due to his dry sense of humor, which I enjoyed. Get into the material and take a fresh look at mankind!
This was my second online class. Although online classes are some what difficult, I enjoyed the class and the teacher was nice. Its a relatively easy class, as long as you READ a little everyday, you wont fall behind. Study guides are exactly whats on the test plus other reading. I would recommend taking this class online! I really enjoyed it :D
I LOVE Professor Ha!!!He really is a great professor :)I enjoyed his intro to sociology and race/ethnicity classes. I learned so much and used all of the resources he provided such as lecture notes, the textbook, and his willingness to answer questions. He is very straightforward and funny. If you don't do well, please reevaluate your academic life! !
Prof is nice but there is absolutely no point to attending class. He just reads everything off of power points which are available online. Everything on the test is from the power points. The class is also incredibly boring. Just study and review material and you will be fine. No need to waste your time showing up.
TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE! you take three major tests on campus, his tests are literally WORD-FOR-WORD off the printable study guides. dont waste sitting in the classroom, lots of reading at first but once you get the hang of it, it's an easy A. Teacher is super chill during tests too
Hands down easiest class I took at Cuesta. You can skim the power points before walking into a test and ace it. Offers a super straightforward research paper (just your own thoughts) to replace your lowest test score or the place of your final. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOKS YOU WILL NEVER OPEN THEM (This is coming from someone who bought every textbook)
I LOVE HIM!!! seriously he wants to help students he is the greatest! TAKE HIM
Mr. Ha is a great teacher! Loved his class. He was so organized with power points, study guides and assignments. I look forward to his Race and Ethnic Relations class next semester.
I took this class online and it was very easy. He has study guides for each test that are the questions on the test and this is very helpful. A long nights study session the night before the test and you can land A, and learn a lot. This is a must take ONLINE class!
He is an awsome person that actually cares
SUPER EASY CLASS. As long as you do the study guides, you'll ace the tests. This class is comprised of social forums in which you have to contribute for a participation grade and 5 exams. Great class!
Professor Ha was great. This was an online class and even though there was minimal contact, you can tell he genuinely cares. I wish I had taken a face to face class with him. Definitely recommend
Online Class ,9 weeks long. 2 chapters a week. 5 tests. 1st midterm 60 questions 2 chapters, 2nd midterm 2 tests total for 100 questions 4 chapters, Final was 104 questions made of last 4 chapters. Must post online! Its points based class. Do extra credit! I had B and 2 A's from tests and still a D, had to rely on the finals to make sure I passed.
While taking Prof. Ha's online class, I went in expecting to be challenged but being that Sociology isn't really the hardest class on a grading scale, I was expecting it to be relatively easy. NOPE. He assigns 4+ quizzes a week, each with 30 questions, and has a time limit of 20 seconds to answer per question. Pretty sure that isn't even allowed.
He is not that tough grader, but he doesn't like his students get 'A'. Class is super boring, but you can pass it by just attending exams only. No need to attend the lectures all .To get an A, you have to spend at least 3-5 hours study . Even the subject is super easy, but his questions are tricky, so more students end up with low scores.
Awful experience with this lecture so far. Very boring class. His exams are different than his lectures. Most of his exams questions don't make sense. Our class mean was for two exams almost 100 out of 180 which means 60%. I will never ever take class with such professor again, and I would recommend everyone to not take class with this lecturer.
I do agree with all those negative reviews. I have got A's in all my GED except Sociology. Even though I spent up to 10 hours each week studying text book, lecture notes and outside source, i was not able to secure an A. Those who want to boos their gpa or looking for an easy A so this class is not for you.
More than half of the class end up with C. if you wanna boost your grade so this class is not for you.
The worse lecturer ever had. His exams are so tough. His multiple answers are similar. I wont take any class with him again
If you're looking for hard and boring class, sociology with Ha is the way to go. He's very tough grader, strict at all, and make class boring ways. Showing up for every lecture is not mandatory, but you will need to study hard the notes he and study book 4 times. Highly recommend not taking this class with this lecturer
This teacher is incredibly boring. Makes power points which he just reads to you, leaving you wondering why you even came and when its going to end. Also, his tests hardly reflect the the class material, and he expects you to do more learning from the book, which is never gone over in class. Frank Ha manages to make an exciting subject quite dull.
Most of the comments reflects the reality. Failed the subject.
Prof is nice but there is absolutely no point to attending class. He just reads everything off of power points which are available online. Everything on neither from the powerpoint and not from the book. The class is also incredibly boring. just show up to the exam u will get c. attending , reading books and notice not a big difference
I wouldn't say the class was "easy" because there is actually studying and reading involved in a few different books. He makes the assignments very hard. The the discussions and the tests are very hard if you didnt the assigned readings. boring class though.
Mr. Ha is a boring and tough teacher! hate his classes. He was unorganized with power points, study guides and assignments. i wont take any class with him in future and will highly recommend do not take any class with him otherwise u will regret.
Great discussions in class, but totally boring and useless lectures every day. Monotone and boring, I fell asleep in class numerous times. As long as you read the material and sow up for tests, a passing grade is obtainable. I wish I would've taken it online and skipped that class time!
After seeing all those negative reviews I would say Frank ha is an average lecturer. He a tough grader. However, he is not that bad over all. He is lecturers are extremely boring but there is no other option
Prof Ha does not allow you to review your quizzes after taking them so you will have NO IDEA what concepts you are not understanding & you will have NO IDEA what you need to study more of for exams. He requires several lengthy assignments be completed during the week, EVERY week of class. This is supposed to be an intro SOC course, not advanced!
Study guides can sometimes be hit or miss, make sure you write down specifics. Tested on irrelevant information at times. Basically the quizzes are pretty ridiculous at times; they are timed so that you may not use notes which is fine, but sometimes modules are spaced a day apart so it doesn't give you the study time needed. Discussions are great.
People are really hard on him on this site, but I think he's great! He is very knowledgeable about what he teaches and even if he's a little quirky he puts in a lot of effort to be kind and approachable.
I love Frank Ha! He's so funny. His classes can get a little boring sometimes but for me i feel like it was just the subject. He's a great teacher and i missed a few classes but still got a good grade.
Frank Ha is one of the most AMAZING professors here at Cuesta. He must have really taken students' feedback and changed his entire curriculum because this class was outstanding. He is extremely nice and understanding when it comes to students' needs and he genuinely cares; I will definitely take another class with him ASAP.
Professor Ha is by far the worst professor Ive ever had. If you want an A, dont take his class. The amount of work due per week adds up to the amount of work for 3 different classes combined. Taking his class as a full-time student was terrible. TONS of reading then tested on the most specific details. He needs to find a different job. HORRIBLE.
Was there a lot of homework for an online class? 100%. Each week we have a discussion, a quiz, and either a timed essay or a regular essay based off a video provided. That being said, its all laid out and the study guides he gives are EXACTLY like the quizzes. Do the study guides and you'll be fine.
Terrible. Don't take Ha. An unreasonable amount of reading and essay writing per week. Reading is 2 ch/week, plus 25-50 pages essay-style lecture notes/chapter. You must read all or you will not do well. Extremely tricky questions, like the kind that attempt to fool you rather than see if you know the material. Wish I hadn't taken him.
SO glad I disregarded previous reviews and confused by them. He is clear in requirements for his course. Online class required weekly discussion board, weekly quizzes, & either a timed essay or on an article/video but this is standard work for online classes. Read & utilize his posted lectures each week, skim through the chapters, you'll do fine!
Took him twice, GREAT professor. He is very understanding and truly cares for the success of his students. Every week there is a discussion, a quiz, and either a timed essay or a two-page analytical essay. They are not that hard! Lots of reading but his study guides are identical to the quizzes. NO EXAMS EVER!
Prof Ha is the most interesting teacher you can take for SOC. I changed my major after i took his class.
First and second week of class, started off bad already. He assigns so much work its ridiculous! His work load is as much as 3 classes combined, way too much! His lecture notes are beyond long and boring. At least 15-20 pages long of just one chapter plus weekly quizes, discussion post and essays due every other week. DONT RECOMMEND TAKING HIM!!
SO. SO. SO MANY PAPERS. The review from 2020 is absolutely right, this class is 2-3x the work in other classes. A 900 word paper every week + quizzes + regular homework. However, its very hard not to get an A or B in this class if you do the work.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you are able to spend the majority of your designated school time (and more) dedicated to this class. I have never had a teacher assign so much work, there's no time for other classes. 900 word essays are due every 1- 2 weeks, and tests and discussions due every week as well. Miss one assignment? 10-20% off your grade.
I took this class online for the 9 week option. Overall, you have to devote a lot of time to this class if you want to succeed. Do the readings and complete the study guides and you will be fine. There is 2 quizzes a week, a discussion post or an essay(900 words). All of the quizzes are proctored.
He is a nice person but do not take him. The amount of work for an intro class is insane. SO much reading, 2 quizzes a week that ARE NOT easy. I am taking this as a pre-requisite for nursing school and the added stress is so awful. I spend all my time on this class and I am stressed that this is going to lower my GPA and it's not even a science
The coursework is very straightforward and his grading is fair, but there is lots of assigned reading.
This class was very homework/quiz heavy but overall not impossible. He also allows you to retake one quiz per module (there's 2 quizzes every week or so). The study guides he uploads are identical to quizzes. His essay/post discussion instructions were super clear and he's very quick at responding to emails. And there's no penalty for late work!!
