His class was alright, but one thing I noticed was that what he taught in class, wasn't the same as the homework, so I had difficulty figuring out the homework. As well, since my text book was a computerized version, I had a hard time reading the text.
Good Prof. liked video lectures that he did gave it a classroom feel. Homework was different from book, answers were theoretical, so you had to know the material. Did well in his class but homework was tricky and so was the math portion. Overall good course and pretty interesting material.I would take this prof again.
Grades on fairly liberal curve. Homework assignments pretty easy. Exams even easier. Gives plenty of supplementary info in case you want to read more. Would take again.
Good lectures, easy grader. I will take another class from this Prof.
Easy class. Lab is also easy
Professor Timmes Rocks! I love his approach to teaching and I especially loved the Online class and all of the tools. The lectures were great length wise and were extremely helpful for getting through the homework assignments. I highly recommend this professor and if he taught anything other than AST then I would take him again!
The class was pretty easy but that had a lot to do with how clear and concise his lectures and homework assignments are. I wish he taught other courses outside of AST so I could have him as a teacher again!
I ended with a 97% in this class. Easiest online homework EVER and you're tests are easier then your hw. Awesome class. I would recommend to absolutely anyone! Take his class online
This is a quote from the professor: "its ok if it a homework problem takes several days to figure it out. not everything can or should be answered in under a minute." He has provided NO help this semester and has only made excuses as to why we should magically know things that he never taught us. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!!!
I am probably taking the same online class as the last post and, I have to say, the class is not hard if you put in the work. This is college, not elementary school. I never had homework help in any online class and if you have a question your fellow students, TAs and even Prof Timmes will guide you in the right direction.
I took both 111/113 online and they were terrible. He was very disorganized with the book reqs so many students had to purchase online materials twice and halfway in he dropped ALL credit for the labs due to "workforce resources" making our whole grade based on 11 5question quizzes. Disorganized, doesn't reply to emails, inconsistent grading!
excellent & funny prof. very clear in communication with a syllabus that spells out everything and frequent communication. timely response to emails/discussion board postings, and video lectures. some other students struggled because they didn't read the syllabus and had a bad attitude. i got a B but only because i didn't read the text book enough
Took the 7-week online course and its worth it. A lot of work, especially if you take the online lab at the same time. But its interesting and as long as you read the whole chapter before the homework/tests you'll do fine. He's helpful and super nice. I wish I took the class on campus because online was a lot of work but it was still interesting!
Super easy class!! I took the 7 week course and it flew by. There's a lot of homework and exam questions but 90% of them are on google, just type in the question and BAM they're right there. Just make sure you do them a little early so you won't spend your friday working on it.
I was skeptical of taking this online at first, but Professor Timmes makes it feel like you're sitting in the classroom. His lectures are delivered just like a classroom and the material is interesting. He's so passionate too. Tests are easy as pie if you utilize all of the tools you have online.
I was worried about this 7 week course because it got off to a rough start. It turned out to be my favorite class this semester and my favrite science class ever! Homework and tests are easy and the prof is very inspiring and knowledgable. Take this class if you can!!
I took the 7 week course online and I'm glad I did! It was a good amount of work, but it wasn't that bad. 2 homework assignments every week and 4 tests. The tests are easier than the homework and it's actually pretty interesting. Timmes is clear about everything and you'll know what to expect!
Timmes is the best! He is so clear about what is expected of you throughout the course. I took the online 7 week course and it was not too bad, an easy A if you do the work. TAKE THIS CLASS!
I took this class online. Super easy if you do all the work. Plus you have a professor and numerous TA's who are willing to help with whatever you need. Definitely an easy A if you do the work and study.
This class was great! Timmes is the man and gives out SO many resources that will help with the workload. So glad I took this class to fulfill my SQ requirement. TAKE IT. I took the online session A (7 week) course and it was a breeze.
GREAT teacher, knows his stuff but isn't too full of himself so he comes across in an easy to understand way. You can tell he really loves the subject. Class has a good amount of homework and tests, if you read the online material and listen to his lectures it's pretty easy to follow. I took this as an online course.
I took his online class, expecting to really enjoy the course. There were multiple problems with the grading software for several students. It is hard and it is a lot of math and studying. ALOT OF WORK. If you enjoy learning about the mass of planets and the distances between stuff, this is for you. otherwise its extremely boring
I was one of the kids who took the online course expecting it to be an easy A. The first half was quizzes, lectures, and readings. All of the answers were online. Easy. His lab started out as a bit confusing but if you read the syllabus, great class, the works really not bad at all as long as you have some sort of rational thought process.
I'm a CRJ major, but still received an A in this class. I took it online (7 1/2 week course), and I had no problems keeping up. Great professor- answers questions promptly and explains concepts clearly. Highly recommended.
Took the accelerated online class and it flew by. No textbook. REALLY easy to get an A if you study. Three exams, all open note. Two homework assignments each week. VERY easy if you utilize your internet resources. Can work ahead at your own pace. Would recommend to any astronomy lover or anyone looking for an easy SQ credit.
Took the accelerated online class paired with AST 111 and was really disappointed compared to 111. Lab questions were vague and some of the time didn't give the correct answer as an option. Positive: Can retake each lab 3 times. However, previous grade is erased so highest grade does not count. Recommend 111 but not 113.
I, too, took both AST111 and the companion AST 113 class. AST 113 is packed with vague trick questions. I did very well in AST111 but AST113 is infuriatingly difficult because of how poor the material is.
I do not know why the other two raters had such a problem. The course was fun and informative. The labs were straight forward and accompanied by helpful videos. Professor Timmes gives you three opportunities to do well on the labs. You must pay attention and put in effort to succeed. It is not easy, but remember we are college students.
Long as you can dedicate at least 3 or 4 hours a day to studying and doing all the labs and homework go for it. --- Not good.
Great teacher with good TAs! Most helpful online course I have taken. Helpful video lectures, discussion boards are taken advantage of throughout the class. Very quick to answer questions.
I thought that this class was the easiest to understand, and the tests and homework are clear cut and simple to complete. I took it online and it was the best decision I have ever made, I would definitely suggest this class if you need a Science credit.
This class sets up up to get an A. Assignments (quizzes) and Exams are open note, no time limit, and can be taken multiple times! However, math problems were kind of time consuming but there are only about 2 math questions per test. Math question were mainly like, "how many molecules are in the atmosphere?" Lectures are actually really interesting
Easiest Science class imaginable. Homework answers straight out of the lectures, which are easy to navigate. Tests are exactly like homework. You can exit test pages to reference lectures. No time limit, just due dates. ToolWire can be accomplished quickly, do not answer every dialogue question. Orders of Magnetude is the hardest part.
Great instructor. As long as you watch his lectures, and take notes you will make an A.
SES 194 was an extremely easy class and interesting. I took it online, and his lectures were easygoing. Watch the lectures are they have specific answers to test questions.
Hes a really nice guy and the class isn't very hard at all. Tries to make things fun and you can see he really cares. just do the assignments and you should get an A. He also looks like Pierre McGuire for any of you hockey fans. Overall easy class.
This class is an easy A! As long as you watch the lectures you're good! Assignments, and quizzes are off of the lectures so be sure to watch them cause they help out a lot.
I actually learned a lot from Professor Timmes and enjoyed the class.
Best science class I've ever taken. Took this session B online class, easiest thing ever. Assignments every week (10 questions) right from lecture, 2 easy online labs (less than 5 minutes). 3 exams word for word from assignments, super concise instructions, super super easy.
Session B class. SUPER Easy. A couple of labs and assignments a week but everything is SUPER easy. No + or -. It's just a lot of busy work but it goes by fast and before you know it, you're done. Note, you'll have to spend a lot of time called the Order of Magnitudes which is pointless but get past the busy work and you'll get that young A
PROBABLY THE EASIEST CLASS EVER. IT'S PRETTY TOUGH TO NOT GET AN A IN THIS CLASS.
EASIEST class you could ever take. Seriously, all of the homework, labs, quizzes, and "tests" are SO easy. This class is basically a joke, takes MAYBE 10 mins a week if you are good at guesstimating. Take this class for an easy A science course
Super easy science class for those looking to fill a Gen Ed requirement. A lot of busywork, but doable and worth the effort for someone who isn't a science person. He doesn't do +/- which sucks because I missed 2 points total and it would've helped my GPA.
In his quest to create a fully automated class, Timmes made this class incredibly easy. If you're good at estimating, you can knock out your labs in 15 mins. The lectures are quite good, but you can skip them if you download the transcripts. Overall, I learned a ton in this class and have found applications for what I learned in everyday life.
Very easy class. With multiple attempts it is nearly impossible to miss any points on homework and labs. The tests are not hard either. Watch his lecture videos and read the transcripts at the same time because you'll know the whole module after spending that one hour.
Just take him, you'll get an A. Easy class, learn a lot, and take it half semester to knock it out.
Great class. Great professor. I took this class through the Global Freshman Academy through edX and it was only $600 for 4 ASU credits. I would recommend it to anyone that needs a science class with lab that is struggling to pay for school. Saved me A LOT of money and as long as you pass with a C or above it counts as ASU credit.
Awesome class, fun projects and labs. Professor Timmes is friendly, fair and responsive.
This was a pretty easy class (formerly SES194). It is a science course, so you do need to pay a little attention in order to accurately answer the questions... But all the questions and tasks that are asked of you are very easy and reasonable. This should be an easy A for most students.
He is a very caring professor. His lectures are funny and very interesting in the subject. I would recommend taking this course as an elective if needed! Must do all the work. You receive the grade you put into.
Timmes makes this class extremely easy to comprehend, would highly recommend taking this class if you're not a science person. The hardest part of the class is probably the order of magnitude estimates, but you get the hang of them after a couple labs. You should be able get an A if you complete everything on time and use the lecture transcripts.
Even though this class wasn't my favorite topic, Francis made it interesting and his lectures were pretty good and straight to the point. You can tell Francis wants his students to be successful in this class. Overall, the class is good for a 4 credit online science course and I ended up learning a ton from it.
Lectures are funny and informative. He is able to take some very complex theories and make them easily understandable. Highly recommend this class, and if you have kids, they will love helping you with the experiments.
This class is not what you think it is. Within the first week of class be prepared for the 6 assignments, 3 quizzes, and 2 discussion posts. This will be repeated every week but with more rigorous material. Enjoy this class if you so dare take it....
The class itself is incredibly easy once you figure out what he is looking for. If you team up with classmates, it is an easy A. The professor himself was not always easily accessible and would give snarky responses back to anyone who posted in the discussion board looking for help. Would not want to have him again.
This class is super easy if you're good at estimates! I never watched the lectures, just simply command+f the lecture transcripts and you're good to go. It may seem like a lot of work, but it will take no more than an hour of your time a week. I got all 0's on the last module and still managed to get an A. If you need an easy SQ take this class!!
If you have coursehero you will get a 100% in this class.
this online class was the best . it is 4 credits, a session A or B . the class is kinda a joke but you still have a lot of fun doing it . there are short quizzes that ask silly questions, and there are 99 attempts for each . you cannot do bad in this class unless you forget.
This class was incredibly easy. The order of magnitude estimates were a little strange but I thought the 2 labs were interesting and the lectures were easy to follow. Definitely recommend taking if you aren't a STEM major yet need to fulfill a science requirement.
Teacher is awesome. Didn't watch all the lectures because they're transcribed so Cmmd+F. Quite a bit of busy work but easy. You can retake all mini quizzes (usually 4 a module due weekly) up to 3 times, so no excuse to fail. The person who rated below was probably rude to the prof. Even when students were mean to him he responded kind but witty.
This class wasn't hard at all. Don't watch any of the videos, just use the transcripts and CTRL + F to find the words he's talking about in the questions. You'll be able to complete the work faster like this. If you don't, you may spend hours doing the homework. You should be able to pass this class easily and use it to boost your GPA. I recommend
Loved listening to the lectures. They were easy to listen to, interesting, and not crammed full of unnecessary information that would confuse you come test time.
Super easy course that is also enjoyable. The labs are pretty straightforward as long as you watch all of the lectures, but there's a class forum to clarify anything that is needed.
The easiest science class you will ever take. All online, easy to get done. All quizzes and assignments are unlimited attempts and the exams are really easy. Projects/labs are straightforward and I get the whole weeks of material done in about 1.5 hours or less. So easy.
If you need to fill a Science elective take this class. I learned so much from this class. There is a lot of reading and lectures. There is math involved but it is all just estimates so not too hard. I made 100% in this class and I was not always sure I understood everything but I tried and I think that is what matters.
Such a great class, his lectures are only 3-10 minutes long for each video and if you don't want to wacth a video you can read the transcripts instead (easier when doing the homework). only 3 exams and I got 100 on each one without trying to hard. Super nice guy and really cool class!!! 10/10 highly reccommend.
I have always struggled with science. After failing science twice in college this class was the final class needed to graduate. Not only did a pass but I truly enjoyed his labs and test. There is some work included but most of it can be found on course hero as a reference. If you struggle with science do yourself a favor and TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Highly recommend this class! the lectures are interesting & easy to understand there are about 10 each module but they are short & simple. The exam is so easy similar to assignments, the labs require simple estimating & professor Timmes answers any questions you have. Use the sheets given at the beginning of the module they help a lot!
Pretty easy science course. The tests are math heavy but google is very useful!
His class was very simple and an easy 4.0 credit class. His lectures are funny and not too boring to sit through. He also has transcripts for all of his lectures, so utilizing CTRL+F will be your best friend. Also Chegg answers and CourseHero. If you want an easy 4.0 online science credit, I recommend taking this class.
Read the reviews. Timmes will guide you if you need help and responds within 24-48 hours. Don't procrastinate. Get it done. Simple college mathematics are necessary. 111% would take this class again. No textbook, but investing in Chegg study helped me a LOT. No +/- scale. If you get a 97, it's the same as a 90. A is an A. Take this class.
Very rude in emails. Doesnt grade correctly. Very disappointed in the class. It was easy.
This class is very easy, especially if you use Coursehero and Chegg. Take this class if you need a science credit.
For an online course, he is a perfect teacher and the class is overall very easy with unlimited attempts on every homework. Definitely worth taking if you need an easy science credit.
If you need a Science Credit but don't like Science, Dr Timmes' SES141 is the class for you! This class is an easy online course that's good for 4 SQ Credits with Lab! If you're having issues, Dr Timmes responds very quickly and can be very helpful as well. He has great lectures that explain everything perfectly. A must for non STEM majors!
Think abstract thinking meets science. That was a challenge. However, Professor Timmes was amazing and funny when teaching a not so fun subject.
Not too hard, the majority of the quizzes have unlimited attempts which make things easier. The labs aren't hard. Try to do your best on the exams though because there isn't any extra credit. So for the quizzes with unlimited tests you need to keep doing them until you get 100%. This will give you a bit of a buffer.
I have really enjoyed SES141 so far. It is a bit challenging, but Frank's lectures are incredible and he is very helpful. Super knowledgable and you can tell he loves what he teaches. I will end this course with an A+ and I highly recommend!
All the tests and labs in SES 141 were available to take as many times as you needed to get your best grade. There were 4 BIG exams that were heavily weighted and you only get one shot at those. No papers or discussion posts no tedious writing. Everything was automatically graded so no real need to communicate w/ the instructor. Good course.
If you have chegg or coursehero you will breeze through this class. I didn't have access to either & I still managed to get an A without really listening to any lectures. You have 'labs' & assignments due every week that are quizzes off lectures or things you can look up. 3 exams & final project. easy 4 credit science class highly recommend.
Professor Timmes was such an amazing Professor! His lectures were straightforward and easy to understand. You have Labs every week which are fairly easy. A total of three exams but study and take notes and you will do great ! Science is not my strong suit but this class was fairly easy for me.
Invest in CourseHero. Practically everything you need is on there. I found the "labs" to be non-relevant to the course and even with watching the lectures didn't really understand them. You can retry everything aside from the big tests as many times as you need. Would recommend if you need the credits but don't want to have to do as much work.
This class was so easy I would highly suggest taking it for your science requirement. Basically you just watch videos and take quizzes and tests after you learn about the topic.
This class was so easy!! I would recommend if you need to fulfill a lab credit. the directions in the first half were a bit unclear but you get the hang of it. There is no right answer it's based on the numbers you put in.
Prof was sort of rude when asking for help. Lots of HW & lecture videos were v long. HW/quizzes were unlimited attempts, which was nice. Exams were challenging for me (easy if you had Chegg) w/ no final. Weekly assignments were time consuming (4 hrs/wk) & due Wed. 7pm, which was weird. Overall good science option & easy A. Only offered session B.
Super easy lab credit, especially as a business major!
Im not huge on science, but class was pretty straight forward. Just watch the lecture videos and do the assignments. If you need help, there are discussion boards for every module where students ask questions and help each other out. If no other student answers your question, the prof answers themself. Very helpful, and fun little science projects.
I took this course because of the numerous positive reviews on this site all claiming how easy the course is. DO NOT make the same mistake I did. This is essentially an extremely difficult physics course. If you are not very interested in Physics, Thermodynamics, Nuclear energy DO NOT take this course. I have been regretting it ever since.
I took AST 111 with Dr. Timmes years ago. His class was amazing and convinced me to switch my major to Astronomy.
Three labs and one assignment every week with three tests in total and one final project. Labs are easy and almost every assignment and test answer comes straight from the lectures. Class is easy to manage every week not too time consuming. Stop looking for a lab class and add this now as you will definitely not regret it!
One of my favorite professors would highly recommend!
Easiest class I've ever taken. Unlimited attempts on everything, and don't need to pay much attention as long as you know how to google.
Great professor and great class. This class was fun and I learned a lot. Not difficult if you understand basic algebra. The lectures were short and interesting. The projects were fun and light. Take this class, you won't regret it. I hope to take more of his classes in the future.
I used Coursehero and got an A. I used creative writing for the "final" project and he lets you retake the quizzes until you get the highest score. It is still a math heavy subject though.
This is such a great science class to take. It's only half a semester and there's barely any work. Every assignment has unlimited attempts except for the 3 exams, but those are all open note. Take notes on all the lecture videos and this class will be incredibly easy to pass. The final project is very easy as well.
The professor seems like a very cool and laid back guy. I did not finish this course as I instead opted to take a different class to fulfill my credit. I would recommend it if you are good at math and enjoy doing it. If not stay away. I am horrible at math and just by looking through the syllabus and other materials I started getting overwhelmed.
Really good prof!
Honestly Professor Timmes was extremely nice, and although his lectures were extremely confusing, he is very present in the class and willing to help. The questions on the the labs and quizzes were extremely math heavy, and time consuming. Not a class for everyone, I found it extremely difficult.
The professor is very nice. Overall this class was great. There are lots of homework, which can be time consuming since they are math heavy. But it is manageable and really fun! An easy A for me. Just know that if you arent really a math person I dont recommend this.
Professor wasn't the most active because the class is very straight forward. If you are looking for an easy science for credits at ASU this is the class for you! Lot's of math, but a lot of tutorials alone that can help! I would take another class of his any day...
This was such a weird class. There are so many students and every single assignment is this weird order of magnitude stuff. The lectures are pointless and you have multiple attempts other than exams. Everything is on chegg and quizlet too.
Easiest elective you can take. You can do homework and quizzes as many times as you want for a 100% (very easy), everything is open notes, no proctored exams or quizzes, projects are very easy. Math is at a middle school level and there are online calculators for everything. Watch the lectures and you can answer all the questions on HW/quiz/exams.
Frank Timmes is an awesome teacher, funny but informative. The quizzes are unlimited attempt/no time limit and the exams are no time limit. Yes there is "math" but if you can't figure this easy math out I question how you got into college in the first place. A lot of cool material here that relates to real life. Just do it you will be glad you did!
Easy A for STEM majors. Professor Timmes was great! Class was very interesting.
Lots of Video Lecture to watch, take notes on them, very useful for tests. Makes funny comments in lectures every now and then. clear class structure. do the work you'll get a good grade.
Good lectures, they were detailed and useful. The formula sheets and spiral chart were very handy and used quite often to complete assignments. You can work ahead in modules. No final - there is a project at the end, but you can get creative with it. Overall, good professor and interesting class. Learned a good amount about energy!
If you're reading this rating- you've found it. This is by far the easiest SQ credit at ASU. bi-weekly assignments are due (3 homework, 1 Assessment, 1 Exam, 1 Yellowdig/Project). Fully asynchronous class does not offer +/- grades. No lab, no recitation, super easy A. (Also a genuinely interesting subject topic if you want to learn it).
This class was pretty easy. Everything was on quizlet and it reminded me of chemistry in high school because there is a lot of conversion with joules and watts. If ur looking for an easy science, take this online
I am getting an A or A+ in the class, and knocked it all out pretty quickly, but the assignments are really rtedious as the answers are not exact and fill in the blank. Good thing is that you can retake the assignments up until the due date for a better grade. Grades on a curve, so easy to get an A, just be prepared to get frustrated.
His quizzes/homework can be frustrating, but they're totally doable. You get unlimited tries. Definitely try to get into his class if you can
Very easy 4 credit science course. No plus/minus grades is a little disappointing as I think it would be an easy A+ if you put in the work, but I digress. There is a decent amount of work due weekly, but you can work ahead and finish beforehand like I did. Content matter is also interesting.
Easy class, good professor. Everything was clearly outlined and I knew his expectations for his students.
The class is pretty easy, do quizzes and assigments unlimited attempts and only 3 exams which were easy and openbook. Its an easy A class. I wish the class has A+ but it doesn't highest grade is A.
The content is interesting there is alot of homework and there are some questions that can difficult but he always accessible outside of class
SES141 is an easy GPA booster for people looking to get a required general SQ credit out of the way. He does not offer +/- grades , which can be a bummer when you're above 97%. Everything but exams you can do until you get 100%. Content is easy and lectures are helpful. All homework is due at 7pm with no forgiveness though, so watch out for that.
Took this class to meet a req. and it was pretty easy. If you're not a math person though I wouldn't take this class. There's about 5 quizzes due one day out of the week that are about 5-8 questions each which are all math. It's not hard at all though. You can take the quizzes however many times you like and they aren't timed which is AWESOME.
Would take a class with him again.
Very easy class for SQ credit. Less assignments and chill class.
Easiest 4 credit class you will ever take. Up to you if you want to actually learn anything. You can retake quizzes as many times you want.
SES141 is a pretty straightforward class. The content is interesting, and assignments have unlimited attempts. unstuck study was super helpful for studying and prep. Overall, an easy A if you stay on top of things.
This is one of those classes people take because they just need more credits. He's aware of this and subtly encourages the use of ChatGPT. A lot of the assignments are just straight up completion based; complete it and you get 100%. I wish my entire degree was just these types of classes.
Excellent Professor; one of the most organized and easy to click through canvas shells I have seen in a long time. There is no way not to pass this class he does not require submissions for anything, and nothing is proctored. I finished this course in 7 days and its a 8 week course, easily one of the best and easiest classes at ASU.
Take this class!!!! Perfection. Nothing else to say.
Easiest class ever, just do the assignments every week. Very little effort required and an Easy A.
Easy A and light workload, but you also learn quite a lot. He's a great prof, responds to emails quickly, and gives good feedback. The final project can also be pretty easy, depending on what you choose
