Prof. Tobienne has an immodest interest of the literature he teaches. He is well read and tries to share his insight with his students. His teaching style consists of reviewing reading assignments and highlighting points of interest. You need to be engaged and follow his mind and the readings, to be successful in this class. At times his course is rigorous and the participation requirements leave you overwhelmed. However you will definitely learn a lot if you do everything! There are 4 papers that progressively get longer. Make sure you are ready to read the required book sections and watch all the lectures and videos. Read instructions carefully and plan ahead.

Although I would caution many who may not be passionate about writing, I would lightly recommend Tobienne to the intrepid student. His standards are high and you will have to match them for the grade, but with the pressure you try harder and can feel confident in teacher student communication. My biggest frustration with the class was the textbooks

This professor is great. He's very well educated, and his class is not exactly easy. He does a great job in making his expectations and goals clear, and I took him online. He's the type of professor that leaves you realizing that you learned something and it makes you feel like you accomplished something.

Amazing Professor and an amazing subject that allows you to express your opinions/views. It is a lot of work with weekly discussion posts and every month a paper is due, but the subject is easy to write about and the papers should come easy this comes from a person that struggles with reading and writing, however the subject is matter is catching.

He's definitely one of the most educated professors I've ever had. Very nice and allows his students to submit their outlines to his email for help. The hardest part of this class was the 10 page paper at the end. But I did enjoy the movies and readings. If you're a fan of the horror genre and need to take a Lit class, this one's for you!

This professor is passionate and well organized. His course is content heavy and you have to work hard for a good grade, but isn't that what college is about? If you take this course you will learn a lot about the Occult. I think that it was money well spent for a required course and I really know what the Occult is now!

I took this course over the Summer and it solidified my feeling that I should be in Literature instead of PWRT. I loved all the text assigned and even though the work was intense, it was extremely rewarding. I am actually using one of the papers I wrote for this class as my writing sample for my Master's application into the English Lit program.

Possibly one of the best classes ive taken. Exceptional node to the esoteric knowledge in a place where you would expect to find it, film. With the already extravagant journey you embark on discovering and understanding the occult, Professor Tobienne guides with ease on topics not naturally flourishing with public endearment. This professor is a joke and not in the good way. Half of the assignments are on Canvas, and the other half are on USF Writes. But it doesn't matter cause the half that's on canvas he won't check, it's only participation. The other half on USF Writes, he takes forever to grade, and papers never get consistent feedback. Trust me, do not take him.

Textbook readings give context, there's a lot of assignments for completion, and the professor gives little to no feedback. He copies and pastes comments, gives unclear instructions, and is hard to reach. Group project counts for a large portion of your grades.

This class was just busy work. He never gave feedback to any assignments, and the assignments did not have clear expectations. There were 4 "final" projects due, which he did not grade until AFTER final grades were already posted. He graded them extremely unfairly, and the grades are not correlated to a rubric. Hard to reach by email.
