This guy is confusing and thinks that everyone loves biology. Hes wrong here. (You scholars know what I'm talking about)
You'll live and eat biology if you take him study abroad but you'll also do very well.
He's a very fair teacher, passionate about biology which really gets you interested aswell. Test's are a bit hard tho, but nothing some good old fashioned studying can't help.
He is one of the best teacher's of this college! Knowlagable... very good teacher.
Gago is the greatest! I had to study quite a bit but he made the material really interesting. The lab class is a lot of fun too. Also, it helps that he is FINE.
He's tough, and half the time you don't understand what he's saying.
Wow, this guy is impossible. While he is extremely knowledgeable, he does not realize that not all of the students in his class are Bio majors and are only doing the class to transfer. If you want to learn way too much about Bio, then take him.
Great teacher, very helpful, funny, makes marine biology fun and you can tell that he really loves it too, plus he doesnt give you any bs.

Good man but there is no other way to take it in a Biology class.
baja was a nice program.
Excellent Professor! but very CHALLENGING ! You learn a lot if you follow his remarks. Full of energy and very passionate for what he teaches.Great job Dr.G.
Very good! TAKE HIS CLASS! lots of fun! he is so funny. Even if you care nothing about Bio, his lectures are so interesting. The material isn't easy but his tests are stright out of his lectures and lecture notes. TAKE VERY GOOD NOTES!
Wonderful teacher, passionate about teaching his subject. If you study you will learn. Takes time to see students, if you need to speak to him, or if you need clarity regarding lectures. Wants students to learn. He is great. Take him and learn.
Dr. Gago is a very good teacher- he is very clear in his lectures. The tests were hard, because they cover a lot of information. I had to study and memorize a lot. But if you do, you can do very well.
very very very hard, but he is a good teacher.
hot and great!
man he is an awesome guy!!!very funny n very smart!i recommend that u take his classes!
Very interesting and funny, although hard. Need to study alott, and forget about your other classes. Oh, and don't go to baja with him. Its worse than survivor (unless you're really tough). And he's good looking.
alittle hard. but do-able. study alot and u can get 105's on his tests.
Lecture (Bio 125): LONG and BORING, when the lights went off many people put their heads down and slept. An A is rediculously hard, my friends that got A's studied 2 hours everyday M-F, I got a C; Lab (Bio 126): SUPER SIMPLE; (get a syllabus) I got 99% in the class. (3 field trips and Extra Credit)
Take both the lecture and class. Going to the tidepools with Gago was one of the best experiences at GCC ever. He is so very passionate about cookie cutter sharks!
WHO THE HECK THINKS HIS HOT. DONT WANT TO LOOK AT HIS SCARY EYES.HE HAS OBSESSION WITH THE "DR" TITLE. SO CALL HIM DOCTOR GAGO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. SO HE WILL GET HAPPY!!
1.He is not hot 2.he should go to Hollywood 3.makes the subject harder than it is 4.unhelpful 5.likes to make fun of sudents 6.Thinks he is smart(hay gago go back to your countary) 7.you should be like a fear factor champion to survive from the pressure that he puts on you.8.a lot of people drop 9.please pray for me to pass this class
His exams are not difficult, howerver the very short allotted time that's given, turns his exams into a stressful experience. Must attend every lecture, due to the fact that all the info on his exams are based on his notes. Also expect to dedicate countless hours of studying. No one ever said bio major would be easy.
Took me till the end of the semester to realize that the tests are exactly what are in his notes. :) Just memorize his notes and youll do fine. One of the best teachers I've had. Dr. Gago makes the class very enjoyable. He sometimes says the funniest stuff. Take him for sure.
Dr. Gago, if you or your staff read this, I want you all to know I'll always remember Baja. It was educational and fun. You and your staff deserve an A and we students deserve extra credit for swimming with the sea monkeys! Thanks for the memories!
His test and quizes weren't bad, but under the limited time you really had to study whenever you had a chance. He's pretty fair. You have a to really know the details on some things. I really enjoyed his class. :)
This is guy is the best. You wanna have fun, go to baja, him and his staff are the best & the best experience and most fun you'll have. Not VERY easy, but not hard for marine bio course. Dr. Gago, if you read this, baja 05 students all love you. i'll do it again next year if i can. people.. TAKE this guy's baja class. you wont be sorry.
Dude, dude is hot because of his intelligence. He knows what he's talking about. He's very organize. His test are not hard, but start early b/c it is a lot of info to memorize. There are extra credits on the test too.Don't be intimidated even though he's loud.Anyways,he's harder than other biology teachers, but he makes the class more interesting.
He is so Hot... His accent is hot, his intelligence is hot, his humor is hot.. etc... His class is not easy, You will probably have to study and be at all lectures. Getting an A is not easy.. But if you try.. you'll probably get a B. Good Luck ~!
he's so easy. he explains EVERYTHING u need to know on a test and its so easy to get an A if u just study what he talks about. plus, u take almost no notes because he's already written everything in his handbook which is so cheap too! he is funny, & has a cute accent besides being a lil cute himself. doesnt take roll but u should show up anyway.
he is a very inspired type of teacher that gets his point well across the room
he is not hot at all. do not recomended! You'll regret by taking his class so do not try to take his class.Very unfair and unlogical teacher.
If you want an interesting, informative and fun class, I HIGHLY recommend BAJA with Dr. Gago! BAJA 2005 was one of the best experiences of my life. Thanks to Dr. Gago and Charles and all of the TA's, this class will forever be one of the best memories of my life! You have to study a lot, but the experience and the fun is worth it!
I agree with everyone who wrote that BAJA was the best! BAJA 2005 baby!!! It was awesome! Thanks for all the amazing dives, all the great hikes, the crazy swim in Archea lake =) and the amazing nights under the stars! Don't think it's all fun and games though, you have to study- but Dr. Gago and his gang of TA's are amazing! Thanks for everything!!
Dr Gago was awesome. The memories I have from Baja will remain with me till I die. Dr Gago has a good energy, but hes not for the weak willed, he will talk**** and try and get you engaged in Biology. He makes class kinda hard , which I like, cause I didnt sign up for college to slide thru. If your planning on transferring as Biology student take his classes, Cause believe me, hes fun compared to graduate Biology teachers.
uhhhh this class is weired he likes the girles and the attention he is very moody one day he will make you laugh the next day he will be really mad and just keep lecturing. he has everything on his lopetop exams, lectures, projects. So if you can get to it and press delete you will be free for the whole semester with nothing to do.YEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHH
Can I say enthusiastic? This Doctor sure knows how to breakdown Marine Biology for the non-bio major! Like me. He even prints out his course outline for you so all you have to do is give your undivded attention to lectures, and stories about baja and food, which strangley helps. Just study hard, go to SI, and ask questions= the results you want.
Dr. Gago isn't an easy teacher, but if you work your brain off, your A is on the way. He's very organized, very, very intelligent, very funny and cute. Sometimes he's moody, but you'd swear later when he cracks a joke that you only thought it after all. He's great. It's very hard not to love Dr. Gago.
Dr. Gago is one of the best professors I have ever had. Yes, his tests are hard, but if you study and truly know the information, you'll do fine. If you are even considering going into a marine/biology career, take him. He is in his office a lot and is more than willing to take the time to explain anything to you. Really nice person and professor!
Dr, Gago was one of the best teachers that I have had the pleasure of taking. He is very helpful and cares about his students. Yes, his class is difficult, but it's a Bio course! His energy is contagious and you will not be bored. Hint: Study the tuna... everything comes back to the tuna!!!
He is just wierd!!! I mean he's a good teacher if you want someone who's not clear about what he wants!!! He's just whack!!! Tests are hard!!! And he expects way too much!!!
The worst teacher at GCC.
I don't understand why people do not appreciate instructors like Dr. Gago. I am a transfer student, and I know more than the students who took other teachers besides Dr. gago. Any way, he is the best bio teacher that I ever had. Eventhough I am not his student any more,he is always there to answer my questions. Take him, you WILL NOT regret it.
The BEST damn teacher at GCC. Not too easy but very clear about what he wants for the tests. His notes are killer, study them well and you'll get an A. You simply won't find a better bio professor at GCC so take his class or just drop dead.
If there is one **** at the biology depertment is no one but Javier Gago. She thinks he is the god, but I have to say he is nothing but my balls.
I really disagree about the perivious comments. He is one of the worst teachers at G.C.C.He has a PHD but he thinks he graduated from Harvard. He is not knowledgeable at all. The stuff he knows Obviousely should be very simple for a "Dr.". So, NOT SUPRISING!!His notes and way of teaching is stupid." Not RECOMENDED AT ALL!! YOU'LL REGRET!!!
I don't know what is wrong with these people. I believe he is the best instructor. I transferred to UCI, but still I ask him questions. Actually, I am really well prepared among my classmates because of Dr. Gago. Some people don't want to study and get an A. Believe me know his notes, you will be fine. By the way, he is really knowledgable and smar
i took him last spring and he was the coolest teacher ever! he wasnt as hard as everybody said he was. rather, he was discriptive & clear about everything. all you needed to do was to take notes and study for the exams and you'd be fine. i did WAY better in his marine bio class than in the reg. bio by another teacher who was very boring and unclear
let me tell u, he is one of the best. i really enjoyed his class and really happy that i took him. on the other hand u will some lazy ass students who dont want to study and pass the class complaining. he is the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssttttttttttttttttttt thanx dr. Gago
The worst teacher that you can take at GCC!Be careful with these commonets becasue you'll regret by taking his class. His tests are from both notes and book, you have to study the book if you want to really get a good grade because notes are really unclear. You really have to work hard.BY the way his system of teaching is really stupid.Forget him!!
He's great. He's lively during his lectures & clear. If u need help he's there.Tests r not hard if u study.I barely studied & got A.People who didn't do well were the ones who barely came to class or left early/came late & probably didn't study, u wonder y they complain???He's funny & the class is interesting.
Great professor, very clear...so far the best professor at GCC, his tests are tough, you need to pay losts of attention and study (not an easy A). Very nice person and easy to talk to. Take advises from him, he knows best.
The worst teacher at GCC. Avoid him! IF you want to take bio take Harlan he is the best.
The best teacher ever and a really nice guy. i loved the class. he is really clear about what he wants on the tests and the classes are interesting and fun. i took him for 101 and im looking foreward to taking him for 102 as well, too bad he doesnt teach 103. ppl told me a lot of bad stuff about him im glad i didnt listen. take him, he's owesome.
He is amazing. I wish I could go back it was a great experience and you learn so much. The staff in Baja are all Marine Bio majors and they are all there to help. It is great to have your teacher there 24/7 to help you with the class, it is a lot of info but it is worth it. Go to Baja you won't regret it.
The class is very, very interesting!!! If you want to learn then you should take this class!!! he's pretty cool too!!! he's funny!!! He's also very helpful, but you have to go to him or else your assed out!!! I got a C on his class but it was my fault!!! I didn't study enough and my notes were lousy because I listened and never wrote!!!!
he makes the class interesting and is very funny. tests are pretty hard if you dont study for hours and u need to take extra notes, book isnt enough
Marine Bio is a very interesting class with Gago. He really knows his subject, smart, helpful, interesting person. You don’t have to buy the book, just the small booklet for 12 dollars. The entire test material is in the booklet. Take decent notes and listen to him in class. (would help if you take ocean 115/116 before bio 125)
If your taking this class "may all your gods be with you" as GAGO like to say...very hard class, but extremely good teacher...i'll give it to you Gago, when it comes to Marine Bio...you know whats up... He teaches with a passion rarely seen from other professors...Its not Gago its the subject.
the best teacher ever. i love you Dr. Gago. too bad i wont get to take anymore classes with him :(
Dr. Gago rules. he is one of the greatest. he makes you love marine bio. he's also a total hottie. he has the longest eyelashes and beautiful green eyes and he's spanish. wow! a pleasure to show up to class.
Damn intelligent, funny, approachable, helpful, and yea pretty goodlooking, too. Hey, Bio 101(h)/102(h) are not easy anywhere (except crackpot classes maybe), but the material's not hard to learn, more so if you have a super professor like this man. I miss you and your classes very, very much. Dr. G-- you rock the universe dude!!!!!! ^_^
ok so i love gaga!!! but the class is hard. he talks a lot about nothing at times but whatever. he is so helpful just ask. study hard and you will do well. dont study and you are sure to get an a
Don't need the book, show up everyday, memorize his notes and you'll be fine. He's a little hard, but a fair teacher. I wish I could take him again.
went to baja with him. it crazy how much i learned in this 3 week class. hes a great teacher and a really funny guy. hes a bit loud, but other than that, i would definitely suggest taking gago
Not at an easy A.Has point system grading. Not recommended for those who do not take notes and listen well. Marine bio is simple. Gago just makes is difficult with his detalied exams and the useless novel on the ocean. Good luck honors students! P.S. His good looks will compensate for his accent!
Awesome - very smart & willing to help with any ? u have. Wish he taught more classes I would take them all!
Okay, if you want to take a marine biology class, take this class! However, Gago's honors class is not an easy A. You have take GOOD notes, and study study study. You have to read a book too, but he doesnt ask you to many questions pertaining to it. He's a very educated professor and knows what he's talking about. You won't get bored.
i took both 125 and 126 at the same time. gago is insanely smart and a great teacher. i learned so much with his workbooks. they were so helpful. it can be a hard subject but the lab is so fun w/ the fieldtrips, etc. he loves teaching this and its interesting to learn about marine life. i loved his accent!! he cracked me up!! great classes~ but stu
He is such an educated professor. He really knows his information and the way he teaches makes the information stick in your head. He really made me love marine biology. You have to work hard though and take gooooood notes. An A is possible, but just remember you have to put in the time!
Dr. Gago's passion for marine biology inspired me to change my major! He is excited to be teaching and his love of marine biology is evident. If you need science credits take him. It won't be an easy A but it is SO worth it. Take the lecture and lab together. It helps. Or if possible go to Baja Mexico with him. That trip will change your life!
biology is hard, no matter who the prof is. however, he tries to make it interesting and funny. he definitely knows the subject and loves it with a passion. plus, hes cute! take him for sure.
Dr. Gago's classes are not easy but you will be well prepared for upper division bio. His exams are from his lectures so do not miss them. Reading the book to follow his lectures proved very helpful. The material is not difficult but it is a lot to take in. Keep on top of lab assignments and do not get behind. If you are unsure about something,
DON"T LISTEN TO OTHERS.I had GPA 3.8 before this class, and i love Bio. I had c in his class. Test are VERY HARD and UNFAIR. bE CAREFUL with his class
Dont take his class
Dr. Gago is the reason I am a high school science teacher now. I had little interest in science before I took his class back in 1995. He has a passion for his subject that is unmatched. He is also a wonderful person who cares deeply about his students' success. Do the Baja class if you can. It is an experience that you will never forget!
hottest and smartest professor ever, although he is kind of patronizing at times. overall, the class is fun.
This class was the most informative class I have ever taken. I would go home and tell everyone I know the things we learned. Field trips were awesome! He loves his field and it shows in his teaching. He makes you want to learn but you do need to work. By the way, he is beautiful to look at! I know that's immature but he just is.
I took both Bio 101 and 102 with Dr. Gago. He is an awesome professor and you will learn things you will never forget. I got through 101 reading the book chapter by chapter. For 102, I read his notes and realized notes are the key. I got A's for both but in 102 I had a 97% for total grade. It helps student attention that he's witty and SO handsome.
Best professor I have taken! He is more than happy to help if you ask. He is very smart and knows a lot about his subject and his passion is obvious and contagious. If you can, go to Baja, as others have said, it will change your life. Show up to class and study his notes and workbook and you'll do more than fine. And yes, he is very handsome.
I don't know about him being hot but i suppose that's relative. anyhow, the class is pretty easy, just take good notes and study them for the tests. the practical, same, study the lab manual and you'll do fine. Overall a chill class, and you'll learn alot. ALso, you might not like him at first but you'll learn to love him.
Nay on him being hot. but yay on his teaching. he is good.
Great prof. The best in bio department. Kretzmen is awesome also, they are both great, so doesn't matter who you take for lab. I wish Dr Conover was as good as Gago. This class is a challenge though, lots of material. Probably the tuffest lab you will take at GCC. Don't freak out, its not totally bad.
Run, as fast as you can from his class!
He covers way too many things for a general Bio class. I've taken a bio class up at a UC before and got an A, but his class, you have to work your ass off for an A. Ended up with a B because I screw up on 1 test. Definitely not worth taking because his test are REALLY tricky. Avoid if you can.
He's very patronizing, and sometimes too egotistic. For him, BIO has to be this way and anyone else who thinks otherwise is WRONG for him. The earth used to be flat only not too long ago. People who think this way leaves very little room for growth in their field. His tests are tricky, covers unecessary details for a general bio. Avoid if possible
The good thing is that the textbook I think is kind of an outline of the notes so you really don't have to take alot of notes. The bad thing is, that just like some other teacher's, he expects you to remember way to much stuff that you probably won't need if this is not your major or field or something. And attendence is mandatory for a while only.
He is really organized, and his lectures are clear. His tests are a little bit hard, he covers too much material and there is a lot to memorize. the book is an outline of notes that he wrote. His tests consist of multiple choice, true or false, and an essay question. subject is really boring if bio is not your major
Oh my GOd. Dr Gago is the best. After this class I fell in love with Bio.Only this kind of professors should be teaching in GCC.I was enjoying every second of his class. His knowledge, intelligence and the way of teaching are the best. Dr. Gago I have decided to do "Evo Devo." That is how effective he was for my career. Thank You for lecturing me.
Dr. Javier Gago put a lot of passion into the subject. He's a great instructor but don't think 4 a minute that his classes are easy. He puts a lot of energy and expects the same from the students. I highly recommend him plus Marine Bio is a very interesting subject. Fields trips were lots of fun and lab as well. Study hard and u'll do fine!!!
NOT EASYY...AT LEAST FOR ME..I TOOK MARINE BIO AND ENDED UP DROPPING IT..TESTS ARE VERY HARD TO GET AT LEAST A C YOU MUST SPEND A LOT OF TIME STUDYING. HE WILL COME AND CHECK ANYTHING AROUND YOU DURING TEST TO SEE IF YOUR CHEATING, HE EVEN CHECKS WATER BOTTLES TO SEE IF YOU WROTE ANYTHING ON THEM..
What is easy about this class is that all you do is memorize a bunch of stuff. For those with poor memories (most students in the class), here's a tip: go online and watch marine videos correlating to the material in the text. It's easier to remember abstract facts and ideas if you can readily associate empirical images with them.
A brilliant teacher who is also very much connects his teaching with the world around us.
Dr. Gago is a great professor. He has an incredible knowledge base. He can move a little fast, especially for non science majors, but he is also patient if you let him know that you don't understand something. Highly reccomend!
Doctor Gago is a GREAT professor! Yes, you do have to study for the tests, but the class is very interesting. Dc. Gago is very organized, very passionate about the material, knows what he's talking about and can answer any question you have.Take this class-you will not regret! Doctor Gago-if you read these comments-thank you! I have learned a lot!!
Amazing lecturer. Extremely knowledgeable, very funny stories. This guy has changed the way I see the world and the planet. Highly recommended. One of the best at GCC-Quality teacher! Thanks Dr.Gago! If you memorize the text you'll do well.
Dr. Gago was amazing ! He made me consider becoming a marine biologist, seriously. Lots of memorization but you WANT to learn. He wrote the manual you study from and its so clear and easy after you hear his lectures. His tests are tough, no homework, just studying. His lectures were NEVER boring. I still dont understand how he has so much energy..
best professor i've ever had
Dr Gago is very knowledgeable and energetic. The difficulty in the course lies in the enormous amount of material and time required when combining both lecture and lab. His lectures are clear and he is very good at explaining. Lecture exams can be tricky at times. Know and understand his notes. He can be egotistical but is a very good professor.
Amazing! I am not a science person but I am now! He is clear and very energetic class is never boring. No homework but you must study a lot!
Most amazing professor i've ever had. His class is challenging but if you work hard (like you should in college), you'll do fine. DO THE BAJA TRIP. the marine biology class is way easier if you go on the trip (lots of extra credit) and the trip is life changing. most amazing experience of my life. swam with whale sharks and sea lions! <3 GO TO BAJA
Doctor Gago is the best Prof. at GCC! Clear, organized, can answer any question, no homework. However, there is a lot of material to study for each test. But if you attend lectures and pay attention in class, you will do well. Doctor Gago, I love you! I have learned a lot!
ok so i went into the class with determination and high interest but was very disappointed. All your grade is based on is 4 extremely difficult midterms. No attendance/hw/ or participation.. so its really hard to pick yourself back up if you do bad on a test. unless youre a bio major, take another science class. pretty bad experience...
This man is very knowledgeable in his subject. That being said, he is not helpful. He clearly has favorites and if you're not one of them, he makes sure you know it. He is incredibly rude and egotistical. He is responsible for my losing any passion i had for the subject. He may have a phd, but he has absolutely no manners.
Dr. Gago is one of the best professors at Glendale along with the rest of the biological sciences staff. The material is difficult but Dr. Gago is more than helpful in answering any questions. The lectures are fun and Dr. Gago adds his humor to them making them memorable.
very straight and to the point nothing extra which i liked!fun!
Dr Gago is one of the best professors at GCC. He only makes you learn what you will need. Best of all, his final exam is not CUMULATIVE. He makes the class super fun and easy
Not an easy class. Lecture test cover minor details but if you study then you'll be fine. Lab is a lot harder memorization after memorization of species, phylums, sub phylums, families, group and etc:GOOD LUCK
If you have a hard time understanding accents, look elsewhere. Book used is a copy of powerpoint slides. A lot of memorization. Very knowledgeable, he's a doctor after all, but class very easily goes off topic.
I think it was an easy class. You had to memorize a lot but there was nothing on the test that was not covered in class. Dr. Gago is a great teacher. I wish I could take him for other classes as well
The material is interesting however there's just too much to memorize for the test. If you want a good grade you need to memorize his lecture plus the numerous readings from book plus an extra handout or two outside of reading that he emails prior to the test. Lab is just another class. My advice is to take this with no other majors class.
Prof. Gago is not willing to help his students. His class is based off of tests only and 0 homework. He is a rude man and I do NOT recommend him AT ALL. He is crazy about the cell phone policy too.
wow really? after taking his course I gotta say he's extremely hard. Tests are ridiculous, he only goes by his outline and doesn't go by any book.. he seems easy and very clear but he's actually very tough. This is an awesome subject but he makes it super hard. Why are all the tough subjects taught by hard teachers? annoyed.. dont like him anymore.
He is a great teacher and by no means easy. But he is crystal clear, all multiple choice test(4) and a few fill in answers all based on his book outline. Study ahead its a lot of material but you can pass easily. I enjoy the class he is a hard teacher but the best must take notes as he explains his daily outlines and fair grader highly recommended
Most interesting lectures and great speaker. His tests are purely based off his self-published book, but there is a lot of material to memorize. When he says "study everything", he is not exaggerating. Every test I studied a day or two in advance and ended up getting a solid B in this class.
As others have said, this is a hard class due to the amount of material you are required to learn and retain for the tests. Professor Gago is a wonderful instructor and is a fantastic teacher relative to Conover from Bio 101. If you want to take this course, you will need to study days in advance for his tests and not slack off. I got an A.
I am currently taking Dr. Gago's marine biology class. He uses a lecture book which only becomes clear if you attend class; miss one time and you fall behind because so much is covered. The class itself is interesting and he makes it even better. Study hard, take good notes, and you should be fine.
GAGO IS THE BEST. bio 102 is a difficult class but many people taking it are already used to studying a lot because they are either bio majors or going in the med field. BUT he is an AMAZING teacher. he uses an outline and explains clearly and makes you interested in the subject. i love his enthusiasm. he's exactly what a bio teacher should be.
Dr. Gago makes you interested in what you are learning that you want to learn more. you need to take some notes during the lectures because the outlines he gives them are just OUTLINES. I don't think his tests are tricky except for the MC part and here come the part of understanding the lecture not just memorizing it. he explains really well.
He's a great professor, and he makes things very interesting and clear. He's very passionate about the subject and it shows in his teaching. Attendance isn't technically required, but you will want to be in his class if you want to do well.
He is a good professor, and his lab is very fair and doable if you put in the work. Recommend.
he is a great professor. lecture is difficult but lab is more enjoyable and fair.
Best professor in the GCC science department that I've had!
Very very good teacher for both lecture and lab! I learned so much from Dr. Gago. Recommended.
An amazing, kind, and very knowledgeable professor.
He is one of the major biology instructors after all. Of course you would expect a lot of studying, memorizing, and understanding. He goes by his outlines and the grade based on 4 tests including final. The lab is much harder than Lecture, what I mean by hard is requires a lot of time of studying but doable. Try to not take many classes with it.
I took Bio 125 and it was an easyyyy A.. he makes the class interesting and the way he introduces the material makes it easy to remember everything. Just show up, take good notes, review and you'll be fine! I literally just crammed the night before the exams and got an A+
He is one of the best bio professors at GCC and I couldn't agree more. Lab exams are waaaay EASIER than lecture. It's literally writing down and memorizing everything he says for the review. I would have gotten an A if I knew how to study for his class. i figured it out by the fourth lecture exam. WRITE EVERYTHING on the outline DOWN. MEMORIZE :)
He's a great teacher. The content was very intriguing. Take this class if you love animals. Probably one of my favorite classes that I have taken here at GCC. His class can be difficult since it is a lot of material in each test but it's all very clear. His tests are straight from the book. Read thoroughly and attend SI. Very fun class.
Gago knows the material well He published his own book, cost $25 and only says the things you need to know. He has an accent, but its easy to understand his lectures. Whole grade is 4 tests, each is 85 questions but he only grades it out of 80 points. You get extra credit if u go to his SI. class felt like highschool with no hw. easy A/B if u study
Doctor Gago is the best professor I have had. The class can be difficult because it is alot of information but as long as you study it will be pretty easy. Exams have extra credit and doctor Gago is always willing to help and explain any questions he is very passionate about his subject
Dr. Gago is an amazing man, great teacher, has a good sense of humor and is really interested and into his lectures. First off the man wrote his own book, which I personally liked because it cut out the extra things we didn't need to know. In my 2 years of college, this class by far had the hardest tests. Get ready to read.
No HW, just 4 tests and that's all. Tests are mostly multiple choice and truefalse, there is an essay question too. Gives great lectures and will always answer your questions. His tests are not easy or hard, they are fair. Show up to class or you will fall off track. Pay attention and write down notes. For this kind of class you def need to study.
This is one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. The tests are hard but as long as you know the study guide you should be fine. Prof Gago is a really good lecturer and his class is always interesting. I know much more about the ocean. The book is more like a collection of outlines so you must be in class or you won't be able to pass.
Bio 102 was a pretty tough class but Dr. Gago made it very interesting. His passion for the subject made me love biology. The class itself is hard and requires ALOT of time and dedication. His lecture outlines are very helpful and you should knows those words for word for the exams!! Very intelligent and helpful professor.
This class was sooooo harddd his test are SUPER hard and tricky. I was studying his outlines ,but it didn't help at all. You should record his lectures and listen to each lecture for at least once. His tests are from his lectures. He is very tough grader & he takes off points even for grammar mistakes. Avoid taking this class !
Hard grader but would definitely take his class again! Great sense of humor and very helpful ! Can't miss class but who would when you get to go to Baja :)
Professor Gago is very helpful but stern when it comes to tests. He is always available to answer questions. Class attendance is a must since some of the key points on exams are from lectures, not in outline. Loved the class and his lectures with "True Facts" (hilarious) videos! Highly recommend.
Dr. Gago is very passionate and cares for his students. He definitely knows how to lecture so student don't fall sleep. His tests are not easy so you need to study hard and record his lectures. Know and undertand the packets that he gives. He is a tough grader specially on the easy portion of the tests( grammar and spelling counts). Enjoyable class
This class is honestly not as hard as what it's made out to be. As long as you study ahead of time and come up with an efficient way of studying, you WILL be fine. Always go to his lectures because you won't understand anything by just going off of the outline. This is an not "easy A" class, but you will learn a lot. Gago is an amazing professor!
You work for your grade it's as simple as that. It kicked my butt, even though it's just a GE class. He's hilarious & has funny stories. His exams were a pain because of the amount of detail he requires. But getting an A on an exam is possible, but you have to be studying & making it feel like it's your major course. Miss class, you miss everything
What a refreshing change from Conover. He is a great professor, very specific about what he wants and what is going to be on the tests. just make sure you memorize the specific terms on the outline, and understand everything else. You only need the textbook for the couple of extra readings before each test, but it maybe takes like 2 hours per test
Hilarious! Very detailed. Difficult tests, but you will actually learn. Takes one of the hardest subjects and makes it manageable, organized and interesting. NEVER miss class. He is the best Bio professor at GCC! He even gives up his own time to hold study sessions - he ACTUALLY cares about his student's education! He is the hidden treasure of GCC!
Dr. Gago is a really nice professor , his lectures are really interesting , but the exams are really tough , but if you study and paty attention , it is gonna be REALLY easy plus , he is really cute!! ha
ok everyone here are saying the exams are tough. that is not true as long as you study. there are study questions at the end of each section as long as you memorize those you will most likley get an A on every test. very fun/intersting class. seems like it could be hard but as long as you study the night before you should be fine
His tests do not reward partial understanding of the material. Lots of T/F with many small details that can trip you up. Going to class is helpful to fill in gaps in the lecture manual, but you can get a good grade just by memorizing the manual, especially all the small details. Likable, interesting professor overall. Study the material daily.
If you're not majoring in anything that's not related to what he please save yourself a BIG headache and drop. He's going to need you to know PLENTY of information in order to pass. In addition, if you tell him you're not majoring in anything related to what he teaches, good luck reaching out to him for help! He also talks about himself too much.
ONLY take this Professor if you are a bio or Marine biology major. He creates an adversarial and hostel environment in the classroom. He gives a 4 page study guide for each exam with a lot of information and his exam questions are tricky. He gives essay questions and make sure your spelling is accurate or he will take off points and he gives 64 total true and false and multiple choice questions. He gets angry quickly, so stay on his good side. Studying for his class is very exhausting, and he has this delusion that all students cheat. Take professor Telles for Oceanography, he's better and he's cool!
The hardest class i've ever taken, granted I had paired it with ochem. Get ready to study6-7 hours a day. Lab is a separate class. Extremely dense. Record lectures. Gago is the best.
This class was the hardest class I've taken in cc but I learned so much. Dr Gago is extremely knowledgable and expects his students to know a ton of info, but he's very clear about what he wants you to know. He provides clear study guides before each exam and as long as you study those you'll be fine. Tests are based on his lecture, not the book.
Definitely by far one of the best Biology Professors I've ever taken. He makes the class very interactive and informative. Everything on the Study Guide for the most part is on the exams including diagrams. It's not impossible to get an A. I really enjoyed this class and would recommend it to anyone interested! You won't regret it.
Professor Gago makes marine biology so tempting a major. Witty, cunning and realistic, you'll find no better marine biology teacher than Professor Gago. In depth lectures with a bit of outside reading from his marine biology text. Class is easy, as long as you study.
Gives a study guide for every test. MEMORIZE IT. Honors section has a separate quiz for every test on the 4-5 online articles that he sends out to read. He's so passionate about marine biology and makes you interested in the subject as well. You're only graded by the 4 exams so there's no room for slacking off. Overall a solid professor.
He makes you work for this class, it is super heavy and demanding. He wants you to understand what's going on in different biological processes not just memorize them. The lecture is amazing, he is a sarcastic man and makes the lecture so fun. You will learn a ton of information during lab. Be ready to put a lot of work, cause his tests are tough
Wow his class was hard, but great. The amount of studying it required was unlike any other class I've taken, but I'm thankful that it taught me how to study. he is an amazing lecturer that will keep you awake and attentive in class. He gives out study packets with everything you need to know for the test- know them like the back of your hand!!
One of my favorite professors. Perfect for any bio majors and anyone who is interested in the subject. Had a lecture guide for the Marine bio class which is really helpful. Tests are straight forward from the guide. Also gave us a study guide for every test.
Dr. Gago is a great professor who structures the class for the purpose of learning. The "textbook" is a booklet of outlines accessible on line that matches the power points. He offers study guides for each exam that do not give answers, but guide studying to do well on exams. He is knowledgeable, an effective teacher, & a fair grader.
Gago's class revolves over 4 test, with each test being 80 points and including 5 extra points. Test format includes 20 question with A-E selection, 40 true/false questions, 2-3 diagrams which are easy and an essay question worth 6 points. If he has SI's, attend them because they will give you 0.5 extra credit per visit and that will help you.
He is very fun and upbeat but his tests are very difficult and it seems like the test is a memory test not one that uses what we actually learned.
Professor Gago is really one of the best professors at GCC. If you dont pass it is because you are LAZY, plain and simple. He gives you a study guide which if you study well, is your ticket to an A on your exams. He is super passionate about marine biology and makes learning the material a blast. Just be ready to study for the grade you want.
Energetic, funny, and enthusiastic professor! He makes lectures fun, is a fair grader, and as long as you study well for the tests, youll do just fine so dont stress!
Dr. Gago is the BEST biology professor I have ever had. So friendly, funny, handsome, and genuinely passionate about teaching. The class is simple, no need to read the textbook, just memorize the 20 page outline and the class will be an easy A. Never learned so much in a class, he made bio really fun, what an amazing professor with a great heart!
Amazing professor! Grading criteria and study guides are clear as day and the only reason you have for getting a low grade is yourself. His lectures are very interesting and the topics are well explained. Honors material was tough, but the 5 points extra credit on the tests help you make up for it. I highly recommend making flashcards. Take him!
Professor Gago is one of the best professors on GCC. He is such a kind and fun professor, but he will go out of his way to help students with anything they need. I missed a couple of classes due to personal issues, and he was absolutely understanding. That's his catch- be open and honest about your situation, and he'll help you in any way possible.
One of the best professors for biology. The material is a loot but you enjoy studying it. Hell make you love biology. I would retake this class over and over again !! P.S. NEVER EVER try to cheat on his class !!!!
Great professor. He is passionate, caring and funny. Only thing is he's a bit rude at times and he has this delusion that all students cheat.
This professor is good on lectures and so respectful, but his tests are really heavy and complicated, this course is only a GE class for most of the students but he made it seem like it's everything in life and nothing else exist. If you are not a Marine Bio major , do not take this class !!
Professor Gago's lectures are so enthusiastic and interesting that you can't ever doze off in class. He was the first bio professor that made me fall in love with bio. Don't talk in class, don't go on your phone, don't ever try to cheat. Record his lectures. Listen to the recordings a good two times. Pay attention in class and you'll be fine.
worst teacher in all of gcc. we wish he would understand that the majority of us are balancing jobs and juggling a life outside of this class trying to make it everyday. his tests are WAY TOO HEAVY. shows no remorse. save yourself just stay away from this class if youre not a marine bio major
Absolutely the hardest class i've taken. If you are looking for a random bio class then do not take him. He takes his class too seriously like relax bro. Im only here for general ed not majoring in marine bio. Do not take him. His exams are harder than you expect and when you think you studied enough, you didn't.
Oh my god. DO NOT TAKE HIM. All I needed was to pass this class to graduate and it is literally not even possible, EVEN AFTER SPENDING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON TUTORS. ARE YOU HAPPY PROFESSOR? You ruined all of our chances into getting into our dream school this fall & added UNNECESSARY amounts of stressBiggest regret of my life taking this class.
Please guys if you are not a MARINE BIO major DO NOT take him at all . his questions are tough and might take off points if you make grammar mistakes. I had to drop the class with W because i was about to fail after all the days and nights spent in studying, I am an A student but this class & professor are the hardest ever. Again DO NOT take him.
Tough grader and takes points off of simple grammar mistakes. During our transition from face to face lecture to online lecture, we missed a lab and so he still forced us to finish the lab on our own and whats worse is that this lab was 23 points instead of the usual 13. He forces us to use proctorio which is an invasion of privacy. STAY CLEAR
if you need an A and this is your major requirement, do not risk it. Do not take him. I had other bio professors with strong lectures and fair grading, Dr Gago is non of those. Avoid his class at any cost.
Took him for marine biology honors class. Not an easy A class but A is totally possible if you put in the work. Dr. Gago is passionate about what he teaches and explains the material in details. Tests are not hard if you take good notes during the lecture and memorize them well. He is a bit strict on short answers however.
Pay attention to lectures and dont get behind on the material. In lecture he explains things in great detail, but the exams are mostly surface level questions so dont stress yourself out more than you need to. You are required to stay for the whole 3 hour lab period. Time yourself when taking the exams or you wont finish!
The lab and lecture material are very different (so think of them as two seperate 5 unit courses). On top of all the material, there are a bunch of extra articles and book readings you need to do that you will be tested on. He is a great lecturer but will not curve, or help you in any way. His excuse is he is preparing u for the future. good luck
Worst professor on planet earth!! He makes his useless class sound like the holy grail. Nobody in this life, unless you are him, needs to know what Strongylocentrotus purpuratus is!! When am I gonna ever need to know anything taught in this class?.... you guessed it, NEVER! I think this class should either be offered as an elective or NOT AT ALL!
This course is 5 units, but should rather be offered as two separate courses. They teach this course as beyond a graduate-level course. We started with around 60 students and ended with 18 students at the end of the semester where at least 6 of the students were either at risk or were failing the class. The class will consume your life, period...
The worst worst worst worst professor. Take somewhere else ,not with him for sure. I dont wanna say more it will take forever. Just know that he is the worst prof !
Do not take this Professor! If you are only looking for a Biology class to complete your general ed requirements, keep searching. He takes points off for misspelling, his exams are difficult, he reads off his PowerPoint slides the whole lecture time.
Forget about any other rating you saw about Gago. He is a terrible professor. He accuses most of his students for plaigerizing and cheating even though none of those occured and gives a zero. His tests are absolutely hard. He always randomly takes points off on written answers even though you mentioned everything! He is very rude. Do NOT take him!!
Literally the worst Professor I've encountered at GCC. Don't take him for a general ed class. He thinks he teaches at an Ivy League institution and expects you to treat his class as the most important thing in your life. He takes points off for misspelling, while his accent is so heavy it's sometimes hard to understand what he's saying.
Forget about it. DO NOT, DO NOT take this class with this prof. He gives ZERO out of 4, to the lab report that has 51 questions if you didn't answer 4 questions only. Grading system sucks. If you think you can take this class, and take another class and have a job, AND get a grade better than C, good luck with that. He accuses students on cheating.
If this is the only class that you're taking, go ahead and take it. But if you have a life, don't.
This professor makes the class harder than it should be. He gives 4 scientific papers to read for each exam and actually tests you on those material on the exam.
Just took this class and can confirm what everyone else is saying. This class feels like 2 classes in 1, grading assignments is harsh. He has pre lab quizes that ask questions and there's no place to find the answers easily (even in the book). Exams have a very limited time w/ proctorio. This class is stressful and WILL take up all your time.
This professor makes the class more difficult than it should be. He claims that it prepares students for graduate level classes but it doesn't. This class is mostly based on recall rather than understanding material, even though he claims otherwise. Tests are alright but be diligent. Also, take the lab portion with the other professor.
This class was really difficult but not as bad as people say. It's much easier if this is your only class, but it is possible to do well if you are taking other classes, such as ochem. It requires a lot of time everyday, and make sure to rewatch lectures and understand all the concepts on the outline. Study more than a week in advance for lab exam.
Dr Gago is one of the best professors I've ever had. He loves his subject and tries his best to implant scientific thinking in the students' brain. OF COURSE this course is hard, you need to forget about you social life for a while, BUT this is a major's class! I took bio102 with ochem, and was able to do well on both classes. Just work hard!
For a general bio class, it is way too complex. Lots of little details and information that, if missed, will cost you precious points. Yes, its a 5 unit class but some of it feels very over-exaggerated.
This class shouldnt be this hard! My friends taking this class in UNIVERSITY dont have this much difficulties, as GCC students who are taking this class. You need to study the notes, the book questions and the research papers that he post! If you have no life take this class and have fun.
Professor Gago is a great Professor. He is very passionate about Marine Biology and makes the class very interesting. You'll learn a lot and will do well as long as you use the study guides and do a lot of studying on your own. Not an easy A, but put in the work and you'll get it. Great choice for a pre-req and overall great and caring Professor!
For some reason, the general bio classes here, this class especially, are much harder than the same classes at other institutions. His exams ask the most minute details you will probably never use again in your career. It's more like a memorization test. Overall, take this course somewhere else unless you have no other option.
This professor has an amazing personality, but he makes the class 5x harder than it should be. Lots of reading, he expects you to read the book, his outlines and few research papers for each exam. If your working and taking other classes I suggest not taking this course. If you're lifeless take it.
Dr. Gago is an organized, flexible instructor who does his best to help students succeed. I can't speak for his bio 102, but this class was a fairly easy (even in the shorter Summer session) proverbial toe-dip. The lab is mostly dissections so be prepared for that. All lecture and lab handouts are provided digitally for free (!!!)
THE CLASS IS TERRIBLE. THE PROFESSOR IS RUDE. NEVER EVER TAKE THIS CLASS
This professor expects you to have no other activities other than studying for this class. If you want to do well you need to treat this class like a full time job and study at least 8 hours a day. His tests expect you to have the entire chapter basically memorized and theres so many specific questions. He is a tough grader and expects too much.
The professor makes everything really accessible, he records his lectures and posts them in case students want to review the material or could not attend class. His tests are not easy but not difficult either. Studying the day before was usually enough for me. The professor is also strict but very understandable. He also offers extra credit.
Amazing professor! Indeed, his exams are hard, but what else do you expect from a Biology course? Ask yourself, "Do you wanna be an accountant or a doctor? If you are not determined to learn every single thing he says, how are going to perform after transferring or in graduate school? Dr. Gago is the best of all the teachers I have had!
Do not take this class unless it is your only class. He makes to too hard for no reason.
Tenured professors = bane of our existence. VERY KNOWLEDGABLE BUT 50 Qs lab wrksht worth 2-3 points?! Not worth it. Must read several 15+ pg. articles for two 1-point T/F Qs on the test. Started with 60+ ppl, ended with 22. Condescending, demanded evry1 know as much as he did. RIGID grader, wouldn't let you finish speaking. TAKE IT ANYWHERE ELSE
Dr. Gago is one of the best lecturers I have ever had. He explains the material so well with cool real life examples that will help in remembering. However, my goodness there is so much information you have to know for each exam. You must be prepared. He does provide a lot of extra credit so take advantage of every point you can get. Lecture >> Lab
Dr. Gago is one of the best professors I have taken at GCC!! The class is very difficult as it is a major class, you have to be prepared to really put the time into memorizing lecture material, and making sure that you have read the extra readings. He's very passionate about everything he's teaching and makes the class very interesting!!!!
One of the best professors at GCC. Great lecturer--he projects his voice very well and goes over exactly what you need to know. Do the study guides! There are a lot of extra credit opportunities--literally every quiz and test has ec on it. One of those teachers whose competence you won't question. If you're still lacking that's a skill issue fr
He's a great and hilarious guy. Always available for office hours, even on zoom or email if you have a booked schedule. Is fair when it comes to grading. Semester was very fun, but the class itself was EXTREMELY tough. I highly recommend taking it alone without any other distractions for the semester. Half of our class did drop out before finals...
I took Dr. Gago during the 5 week winter semester and he's a passionate professor. no homework just quizzes and 4 exams all pretty easy because he explains everything in the lectures. recommend to take in the short semesters.
Took this class as requirement & it was really hard. But Prof Gago is GREAT & offers lots of extra credit. So work hard & you'll easily get an A & learn some really interesting stuff! He'll also always be available to help you as much as he can. The lowest exam gets dropped, so do well on the first three and you wont even have to take the final!
I took Dr. Gago over winter, I highly recommend taking this class. He is always available outside of class, stays on top of grading everything on time, and offers a bunch of extra credit. His lectures are also very informative so attendance is a must. As long as you stay on top of your work and pay attention, you will get an A no doubt.
He is a great professor, and has a great way o teaching. He is very sweet and gives a lot of extra credits. You should be careful during the lectures because the tests are literally the same things he talks in lecture. A very sweet and caring teacher
If you want to experience what medical school feels like as an 18 year old straight out of highschool, just take his class! you won't even have time to do a number 2! Take his class if you're forming at gcc and have no social life or job and daddy's paying for everything, other than that get ready to inhale biology for the next 4 moths of your life
Feels like ima in medical school. 200-300 slides of concepts per exam. Each exam is hundreds of concepts on a very deep level. Imagine an anatomy class mixed with physiology and molecular biology. The lab portion is even worse. There are more labs than weeks in the semester. If you cannot afford spending 6 days a week for one class take it elsewher
I'm a Bio major, so I'm pretty good at memorizing. But he took this class to the next level. I make quizlets and there are over 500 flashcards for 1 EXAM. I literally couldn't keep up. I feel like I took the MCAT every time we had an exam. A bio class should not be this hard, just take it somewhere else or accept a C (unless you are a genius).
This professor is great. I took him for both bio 125 and 126. He provides the textbook for free in canvas. He explains the material that you need to know and the questions in the test are exactly about what he talked in class. He gives a lot of extra credit so you can do those to boost your grade. He's truly a great professor.
BIO102 with Professor Gago is a tough but engaging class. Expect to put in significant study time, but the material is presented well. unstuck study AI was a lifesaver for my exam prep.
Taking this class as a prereq after having already graduated uni. This class is stupidly difficult for no reason, harder than most of my upper div undergrad courses. I get that he thinks he's looking out for you, but university profs and courses do not drill you on this stuff. They just reteach everything after you transfer. Just try your best ig
Amazing professor. Srsly cares about marine bio & about how well you do. Drops yr lowest exam grade and gives an entire letter grade worth of xtra cred. If u dont do well thats on u. U need to study, its marine bio! But if u have 1 iota of curiosity you'll be fine. Im not a stem major so I was scared but i learned so much! Take it. No hw. Pay attn
Don't think I dropped and I have a bias, His exams were nothing like I have seen so much material + Extra Readings + Questions from the book. Labs were even more work than Lecture, this class should be 7-8 units. He also DEMANDS you to come to class and will know if you don't. 1-2 Discussion post per week never got full points. Expect a C maybe B
Such a great biology professor. He is a bit of a tough grader, but it makes you learn so much better. For his exams be sure to know everything on the exam outline, and read ALL the extra readings. My passion for biology grew so much after taking his class. He is super passionate about it and makes the class super enjoyable. Hes also super funny!
Listen—if you study for his exams and quizzes, you'll be fine. It's a mildly heavy class, but 100% doable. Pf. Gago is passionate, helpful, and makes class fun with jokes and good energy. Lectures are recorded, 4 exams, and Ex Credit at the end of semester. ALL quiz/exams comes from his study guide which are straight forward!! (you'll be just fine)
Here's how you succeed: He gives you exam outlines to help prepare for the 4 exams throughout the semester. Memorize everything on them. Take his online textbook pages, upload them to ChatGPT, then copy-paste the exam outline. AI will tell you everything you need to know for studying. Great professor, funny, understanding. Pay attention & study.
Great professor cares about the subject deeply, just read all notes and be prepared for weekly quizzes.
Really nice and very passionate about the subject. A lot of lecturing, but his stories and SpongeBob references make it very fun. Exams are long, but if you take notes during lecture and use his study guide it's not hard. He likes participation, so don't be sleeping during his class and you'll be just fine. Also be prepared for pop quizzes.
