A fun teacher, the subject was terrible but if you like philosophy it will be fine. Very accessible, always willing to help. Pretty funny, a little spacey but still on the ball.

Funny guy, bad class material

Different. I am glad I chose this class. With him as the professor, I learn a lot. His unique approach to the material keeps me coming to each class. He is sarcastically funny at times yet very precise in his explanations. For a class that is required, he makes earning the credit very possible.

we had him for the second section of the class after Prof. Olin. Man, I actually started coming to the classes! Interesting, with great knowledge, funny, funny, funny. and he has a way of keeping students calm during hard material.

Funny funny prof. Sometimes mean about the fact that we were not so great with numbers as that other person said. Then again it got on my nerves too. I dreaded each class, but not because of him. As a gen. ed. it's not too bad if you base your judgement on the prof. But the course itself is boring.

Wonderful prof! He definately made a potentially boring class entertaining. Great sense of humour and wonderful at explaining things until you understand. Go to him for extra help and you are SET! He definately helps out, and will go over problems until you understand!

Intelligent and witty. He will explain an issue until you understand it, helps you develope your own understanding of the examples. He's just a great prof 10/10

Nice guy, just read a few of the readings and you're good to go. Not a difficult course and not a difficult prof. Keeps it light in the class room but u really dont need to go in the first place. Gave us the questions for the final [since our TA who marked our midterms marked harsh!] Prof said that wont happen again.. Definitely take this class!

this is the best prof you'll ever have in york in terms of explaning material and providing extra help. His tests are quite easy if they have detailed instructions, when u have to write essays there's no scheme as to how the essays are marked so becareful about that. Got a lower mark than expected but he's an awesome prof

He is very organized & concise, and does his best to ensure that everyone understands the material. He is approachable and provides very detailed instructions for tests. He offers no criteria for the marking of the essays, but he seems to always search for ways to improve the grades of students. He maintains engaging discussions in class.

At first I disliked him, but later on I realized how great he is! It's an amazing prof! He explains material very clearly, is very approachable and does his best for his students! His tests are not hard and he gives very clear instructions about them. He sometimes makes weird jokes, but that's ok =) One of the best profs!!!

This man is an INCREDIBLE professor. He's absolutely brilliant and utterly hilarious. I look forward to each and every class. And if you get him for your tutorial, STAY! He is OG. I swear he was a comedian in another life.

Great professor. He's very enthusiastic during the lectures, very funny as well. Limited time for tests, so make sure to do them quick. Came to me and asked me for my input, which gave me the impression he cares and wants to improve on his class.

I love this prof! Hes so easy going and hes very helpful. he explains everything in alot of detail, gives alot of examples and hes very intelligent! He makes you think which is a good thing. He really wants everyone to understand the material. If you pay attention in class and actually try the assignments are easy!

I hated intro to logic, and i got a bad mark, but he is a good prof, and made the course bearable.

He wants his students to do well, so he will explain course work very clearly and multiple times. He will always answer questions and go beyond to make sure you understand. Course work is not very demanding for a 6.0 credit class. I definitely recommend it, he is an interesting character.

Amazing prof. Very clear and helpful as well as entertaining. He makes the material easy to gather and genuinely wants his students to do well in the course. Class attendance is mandatory bc the course increases in difficulty over time. I would take another course with him again next semester.

Awesome Prof. It's highly recommended that you take one of his classes. He knows how to cultivate a dynamic learning environment. He's witty, keeps things fun, and has lots of enthusiasm. He's just all around a cool professor. He really takes care of the teaching side, so really, how well you do depends on you.

Very clear lecturer. Good guy, takes time to answer questions. Easy 1st exam, pretty easy final. Know the textbook and you'll be fine. Tutorial's are an easy 20%. The critical analysis are marked fairly (hardest part of the course).

The bees knees. As smart as he is, he is extremely easy to talk to. Clear in lectures, and is always welcome to questions - actually, he BEGS for them! Material can be heavy, but he is always available to talk about assignments and lectures in and out of class, so I can't imagine anyone doing bad in his classes using the resources made available.

This man is a genius. Class was interesting and easy to follow. Just repeat exactly what you do in class for the assignments and you can't go wrong. Very approachable, hilarious guy, and he cares about his students. I'd love to take another class with him.

Go out of your way to take a class with this professor. Funniest, clearest prof I've had yet, and very helpful if you have any questions at all. Makes the class interesting as well.

I took his lecture last summer actually, and we had fun and a happy summer, his tests and essays are really not hard if you follow what he expected. I made a major mistake, but still ended with a B+. if you hv the chance, take his class. and i will take one more course with him this coming summer. good luck to all of you!!!

Even though there are so many similar comments - have to agree! Took this course last summer - so nice, helpful, and fun teacher. He cares so much about his students. I found the course really interesting and ended up with a 9.0. He allows for the class to discuss really interesting topics - just an overall cool dude.

One of the best profs at York, has unequivocal wit and teaches with enthusiasm. Assignments are easy if you understand the core concepts he teaches, but the tests can go either way. Nonetheless, with a prof this good its a mistake not to take this course with him. Definitely recommend

No exam for this course is a blessing. Not sure why the unanimous support for this prof is, as he marks very difficultly. He is very funny, clear and insightful, and this course was quite interesting, but I feel he was just much too difficult in marking. Maybe that's just me. Easy B grade, not an A. Go to all classes, textbook not so necessary.

He is a great guy, he's really funny and his classes are laid back. Problem is,he is an extremely hard marker, assignments where I thought I'd get an A I'd get a C. Attendance is 10% of the grade, I'm expecting to end the class with a C.

I think this course is a total waste of time and I hate that it's a degree requirement. However, the course with this proff is easy. He's very nice and approachable, willing to explain (and does) concepts over and over. No midterm or final. 2 tests, 4 assignments, and participation marks. Go to class or you won't do well on assignments. Got an A.

francisco is literally one of the best professors i've ever had at york. he is clear and concise, and his tests are all open notes/open book. i do recommend going to class because he makes the material way easier than the book. also hes hysterical. be wise and take his class!!

He is one of the bestt, nicest guys you can ever encounter in your entire life. Very clear and concise, very knowledgable, very approachable, very funny. Amazing prof! He lets you use all aids during in class tests that you have 3 hours to complete but you shouldn't need all of it. By all aids I mean textbook, all your notes, cellphone, computer. He also explains content very well and a way that is easy to understand. He makes lectures engaging and I never skipped 8:30am class once! Unreal prof.

Definitely one of the best first year courses, but largely thanks to him because he teaches you exactly what you need to know for evaluations. Material not the most exciting, but the group/class discussions actually made it really interesting. He is a fair marker, generous, engaging, fun, and gives excellent feedback & guidance. Great prof

Excellent professor! Lectures were very clear and explained concepts better than the book did. Come to class as there's a participation grade, based on group work. Other than that, there were 3 written tests in the Fall, and 2 assignments in the Winter that we hand in. VERY fair marker. Highly recommend him for MODR 1770. I had a great experience!

He is such an awesome prof! The best so far I've had at York. He is really good at explaining and his lectures are very good. We do a lot of group work each week and submit for a grade all of which you get perfect on. The exams are super easy he provides a sample test you can use during the exam and the essays are based on discussion topic.

Professor Holtved is one of the greatest profs at YorkU. As a third year student and taken lots of classes, he is definitely in the top 3. He is very caring, respected, and just a terrific professor overall. His lectures are very engaging as well as the group involvements are a nice touch. On top of all of these things, the man is hilarious. 10/10

Took this class in Summer 2020 and really liked it. Professor made our transition to online learning very smooth and not stressful at all. Though test 3 was hard, the prof is a very fair (easy) marker. As long as you follow steps provided for short papers, you can able to get 100%. GREAT PROF.

I took this class in the summer, and Francisco was awesome. Test's are straight forward, and he is an incredibly fair and generous marker. I wish I could take another course with him. He is so so so nice and absolutely a great prof- even if the material can be a little dry.

Im in MODR1770 now. Francisco is super engaging and makes 8am lectures easy. Its basically like an advanced English class but enjoyable. Although the material may be dry, Francisco is able to teach in an engaging and effective way.

He was a really nice professor considering everything, I just wish the course wasn't structured like this. Personally I think arguments can't actually be graded like this and the paper's show the difficulty of the course even more clearly. Still a really nice prof and is considerate to student life. Wouldn't take this course again though.

Mr. Gomez is a hilarious, caring, accommodating, and in general just a wonderful prof. MODR 1770 was a really nice experience with him. His tests are very fair and do-able. The essay assignments were somewhat challenging but still very fair. Overall it was a great experience. Take him if you get the chance!

Professor Gomez is one of the best Ive come across in my 3 years at York U. I took MODR1760 with him in the summer, and he is amazing at keeping everyone interested and motivated. He explains everything in depth and allows for questions and feedback. Easy marker, respectful prof, and a really funny guy :) Would recommend to anyone.

Amazing professor, and overall a great class! Highly recommend taking Professor Gomez-Holtved, he's so down to earth and simplifies the hardest concepts into ways that are easy to learn and memorize. Amazing prof!! Classes are definitely mandatory to attend to get a good grade but his explanations and expectations are very clear which set everyone up for success in this class. Great course for a gen ed credit! The grade is based on 5 very simple tests and in-class group work.

Professor Gomez was an amazing prof. He does not post much online, so going to class is a must, half the time you're just working with a group to submit something in class for an easy 100% and a great grade booster. You will need the textbook to help you with understanding, but the course itself is easy if you pay attention. Easy grader, easy tests

Will never have a professor like this again... Professor Gomez-Holtved is absolutely top-tier! He's the funniest and most caring professor ever. Parts of this course can be dry but he manages to make it super interesting! His lectures are super fun and you can take lots away from them. For sure take any of his courses! Absolutely amazing guy!
