I actually learned spanish from him, he is an amazing professor who really cares if a student learns. I took 3 spanish classes with him and I can now communicate in Hialeah...and Central and South America....
Prof. Grisales is a great Spanish prof. I don't recommend taking 1102 unless you have a strong background of the basics and vocab. He really enjoys teaching the subject and doesn't mind being silly while doing it. I def. recommend Grisales
I withdrew from his class because I felt completely lost and did't feel I received the support needed to successfully pass and go onto Spn2. If you don't know Spanish prior to the class(which more than half the students in my class did)it is easy to be intimidated by this class.
Excellent professor!! Very helpful and entertaining. Sometimes he acts very funny and that makes the class even more interesting.

This guy didnt get any respect, in the begginning of the semester. He makes you do a lot of online work along with book work which is good. People in the class that spoke spanish could not bulsh*t their way out and had to do work. At the end of the class there was like 7 out of 35 people left
I Love this class and this teacher. There is alot of online work, but if you don't slack you can get it done. He is very helpful and easy to understand. His energy makes you want to participate. I plan on taking whichever other Spanish classes he teaches.

GREAT class! Great teacher.... very funny and sweet! He's VERYYYY caring towards his students and his class was a joy to take! I wanted to take intermediate spanish with him, but he only taught in in the summer at night--and my schedule didn't allow it... :'(
He's adorable. Might be tempting to save online work until the night before test but you wont be able to finish it all. He's very nice especially when he sees that you exert some effort when doing the in-class exercises
He is a great teacher. If u come to class pay attention and participate u will get an A. Gives chapter tests no midterm but a final. I got a 90, 84, 80, 70, and 80 on my tests and didnt think i did all that well on the final but if u do all the online work just do it u will get an A
You will pass this class if you keep up with labs, participate in class and do all assignments. Professor is very helpful
He is a GREAT Professor. Many people in my class couldn't speak spanish one lick, but the way he teaches allows you to get the most out of the class. If you complete all of the labs and homework , you will get at least an A or a B in the class. Tests are not heavily weighted. Interact with him and you will be fine. A must take for the summer. :)
Grisales is a very cool teacher. I passed one exam out of 5 and got a C, and thats because he grades his lab manuals and homework manuals with a higher percentage towards your grade. you will hate to do the manuals, but it will pay off, just like it did for me, if you dont do them it will hurt you. Prof. Grisales, isn't bad. He is kind, gives jokes at times, and is laid back. He makes u repeat a lot after him, but hey, its a language class. other than that he is awesome. Also, i should mention that his tests are a bit tricky. U have to use ur logic on several of his questions
WEhat can I say, he is vey passionate about his culture. The lab books are ALWAYS used so do your work book. I got ok grades on the tests and did almost all of my workbook and managed to get a C. I only got a C because you have to go to class, I missed alot of classes and he gave me a break. He wants you to understand so dont be afraid to say HELP!
Excellent Professor. Very helpful and straight foward. Humorous at times and feels extremely passionate about the language. Respect is key for a guaranteed A.
Awesome Professor. Just remember to do all your workbooks and lab books. It's a high percentage of your grade. He is very humerous and loves teaching. I would take his class again.
This is an easy A you do your work and make sure you are always there for the test and test review and you have nothing to worry about! i took him for the summer, yes it is a lot of writing but it was a really easy class!! you should take it!

Took SPN 1120. He is a good professor but this subject requires a lot of time I thought. The online labs count as 25% of your grade and they are due the day before exams. They are not difficult but again, they take a lot of time. He is not the best at explaining homework assignments. It?s an easy A because you are graded on participation, lab work,
If you do not know any Spanish prior to this class, don't take him. He is very passionate about his language but he can get a nasty attitude sometimes if he has a bad day or you don't agree with him or understand the material right away. He can be a jerk and is sarcastic and zips through the chapters. I passed his class but I don't recommend him.
Spanish If you already know spanish, it's not that bad but still kind of hard. he is extremely vague on everything partially due to the fact that he can barely speak english. If you don't know spanish and genuinely want to learn, DO NOT TAKE HIM. he is an absolutely horrible teacher and don't quite understand how he is still teaching there.
I am a spanish speaker and I got a D in this class. He picks favorites and isn't fair. He is unreasonable and he doesn't explain things very well. I do not recommend this professor. You only get an A if he likes you. Otherwise, he'll make up reasons to give you a bad grade.

This man is horrible.He cant teach! The only students that did well was the spanish-speaking students. He would not teach and when we needed help he would have another student help us instead of him! He needs to leave!
I hated this class. Not only was he rude but he was not very helpful. He cut the spanish speaking students more slack than the others. He was rude and would not listen. He doesn't like to be wrong and when you call him on it, he puts you on his "hit" list. All the Quia work we did only counted for 10% of the grade and it was a alot of work.
Professor Grisales is a very good instructor. He uses a hands on method that makes it very easy for you to retain what you have learn. Anyone that gave a bad report to this professor, may they were playing on their cell instead of paying attention in the class.
Really good teacher makes learning fun and interesting. This is an easy class to pass. Even if you did not do well on the exams, you can still pass the class. Just do all your assigned online labs and homework, come to class on time, and do flash cards, he give a positive mark for everything. This professor makes it easy for you to learn
Very passionate about Spanish and actually made it fun to learn. Do you labs, show up for class and you will have no problem at all. If you treat him like he is a fool you will loose. Don't mistake his accent for lack of intelligence.

Horrible extremely boring clss. uses bilingual students to teach the non spnsh speaker is not very explicit when he teaches. can be very irrational @ times. DO NOT take him. Prof Spears is a way better prof.

He's a funny, very tough on grading, accents marks, and spelling whether or not your fluent. Testes consist of lots of reading & writing in Spanish AGAIN great personality and professor but treat curriculum as if we are all literate natives.

Gave too much work for an elective. Index cards, online lab/ text work (which is a lot), power point, interview, and community service dat had nothing to do with the class nor was on the syllabus. It was my last semester and I never expected to work so hard, and still received a "C"
Very rude and unprofessional. I had sent him a plethora of emails informing him that I would not be able to attend class the first week due to a mandatory event. Not only did he not respond, but yelled at me to get out of his class when I tried to speak with him. He doesn't care about the students at all and has a horrible accent.
I had him for the 6 week session for summer term, so since the class was accelerated that meant we had a test a week along with a lot of online textbook homework. The online homework was annoying but helpful for the most part. The one thing I really hated about the tests were the speaking part of them which was kind of hard at times. I got an A tho
Extremely hard to comprehend Spanish through his teachings. There's a constant loss in translation between him and the students. Luckily I knew enough Spanish well enough to pass with an A"..but take heed and run if you have zero knowledge of the basics.
I had to drop the class the second day. He goes way to fast with the matarial. Its supposed to be beginning spanish. He was only teaching in spanish which is difficult to understand when you don't even know the language on day 2. He seems to catch an attitude too easily.

Today way my first day taking his course and i'm already dropping it. This professor spent about 90% of class time speaking in Spanish and it is only the first day! He made it clear that this is his teaching style. There is absolutely no review of SPN 1 in his class, so you will be out of luck if you expect one. Run For The Hills!!!!!
THE worst language teacher ever refuses to talk in any other language but Spanish and it is a beginners class,I dropped the class after 2 weeks, my boyfriend who is of Hispanic descent took him this semester and regrets it since he also does not appreciate his teaching style do not take his class if your interested in learning Spanish
Despite the extreme difficulty of this class, I really enjoyed it. He does speak in Spanish almost the whole time, but I think that might be the reason I feel like I really learned. He has a different style, but it is more realistic, a lot of learning a foreign language is trying to interpret what the person is saying with context clues, etc.
I actally took him for 1120 and 1121, but about 10 years ago. I got two As, I don't know what these people are talking about. I never found him rude/mean/etc at all. He talks in Spanish because there is a thing called IMMERSION which helps people learn a language.
Look, he is a hard professor but once you get to know him he would be helpful and he can understand you. If you really try he can help you out, but if you dont even try and get one of your friends to do the work for you you would NOT pass the class. you have to really try and try to talk with him and have a some interest in learning.
Contrary to what others say, this Professor is AMAZING. He does speak more Spanish then English but then again it IS a Spanish class. Many come to class expecting to be babied and spoken to in English but how will one learn another language speaking only what they know. He does take you out of your comfort zone but YOU do learn.
RUN! I speak Spanish and thats the only reason I passed. He doesnt answer your questions, I dont even think he understand the questions I asked. He takes his online work WAY to serious and he is extremely rude! Do not take him if you want to enjoy class and pass.

Professor Grisales is a great instructor. I could not speak any spanish in the beginning, but I worked hard and did all my labs and homework. I went to his office for more help and Professor Grisales help me with things I did not understand. THIS PROFESSOR WILL SEE YOUR EFFORTS AND YOU CAN PASS, make all 100's on your labs.
I am not a native speaker of the language but, if you show interest in the class this professor will help you. He is not going to beg you to learn, you have to ask for help. I guess I am old school.
Very bad teacher, he doesn't understand that students have other things going on, he doesn't listen and doesn't understand questions. Too much homework for a beginning class. We had test every 2 week, before finals he giving test. Plus, powerpoint projedt and interview. Bad teacher don't take him.

This professor thinks he's a great teacher when in fact he gets mad at his students for not understanding and doesnt actually hear what you are saying. Class is very long with no breaks. You have 6 tests, with 15 flash cards due and a PowerPoint of yourself. If you don't speak Spanish this class is very difficult. He is rude and does not help at all.
I could at least tell his heart has good intentions for his students, seriously. However his class was only hard because he was very confusing with directions. He would say one thing, but later change it up some how. There are lab work, HW, 6 tests + final and a power point which i found pretty fun. I passed his class because i knew some spanish.

I took Professor Grisales( SPN1120) in the fall of 2014 and did not pass his class. My fault because I did NOT study hard enough because I was not able to give the course my time or effort because I was also taking a science class and a science lab. In Winter 2015 I took the class again and I definitely wanted to be in his class. I passed with a B.
Grades are Earned not given. Please do all your connect and homework assignments. Help is given just ask for it. He makes a fuss if you leave early , arrive tardy and or absent. Flash cards are always due on test day.
If you don't speak Spanish don't take this class. Sad to say when this is a beginners Spanish class but even those that speak Spanish have a hard time with assignments and tests. Would not recommend.

If you are a beginner and cannot give the class your full attention DO NOT take him. He is very rude and impatient, he doesn't communicate very well. HE doesn't give clear instructions and gets frustrated when you ask him to explain.
This professor is native to the Spanish language. This is great because he teaches you the way to speak Spanish, anyone can speak words but it doesn't mean they make sense, he teaches you to make sense when you speak. The key to passing his class is the class discussions. He is big on practicing the language and will help you if you show effort.
He is a native speaker so he knows how to teach well, just be pleased for a lot of reading and group work, with a PowerPoint presentation at the end of the semester. Also there is about 6 tests in totap
When it comes to Spanish, he will teach you the right way to speak it. I took him during the summer, and he allowed the class to take the test home to do. The final we had to take in class. We had to do connect and a PowerPoint presentation in Spanish. He his a tough grader but allowed us to correct our mistakes for better grade. Just study to pass
He is a great teacher I took him for Spanish 1 & 2 He teaches the proper way to pronounce and we get to practice in class There are many homework and lab to do but it's practice for the language Most students don't like him is because they expect this class to be like high school spanish but this is a college class!(treat it like it)

How can you teach a BEGINNERS spanish class and ONLY speak in spanish? He catered only to his spanish speaking students. Me and many of other english only speaking students were left clueless because we understood nothing he was saying. Also when you call him out on it he simply says you're not ready for this course.. just sad
His professor was extremely difficult. He would talk about things that have nothing to do with the class . He is extremely arrogant and rude. He lacks patients, I did not feel like I learned much in his class because he was easily thrown off track to talk about how Spanish culture is superior to all other cultures. I would NOT recommend this him!!
Pro Grisales is great. I'm not a native spanish speaker but I do speak another language besides english. However, he does speak only in spanish but its according to the lecture and it's all in the book. You can follow along. I do agree, he's a bit impatient but if he sees you trying he will help you. Just talk to him and ask for help!

Some may find it hard to understand Grisales when he teaches in Spanish. He's really caring and reopens labs, helps us out on tests, and tries to make sure we understand the lesson.
Professor is very particular about conjugations. For our presentation for our self portraits he didnt give us a rubric for what he was looking for and when everyone presented he did nothing but criticize our work and tell us what we did wrong.
Worst teacher ever, i could not stand him, doesnt even play fortnite, and if you miss class you wont be able to make up the work
Professor Grisales is an older teacher. He doesn't answer students' questions in the best ways. You have to get adjusted to his personality. If you genuinely want to learn Spanish, this isn't the class for you because he teaches in Spanish, and for beginners it's really hard to understand what he's saying.
even on the first day I was completely lost because he mostly speaks in Spanish. The lectures bored me because there were just times where all you do is repeat what he's saying. I learned and retained absolutely nothing. Also, if he sees you struggling in the class, he blames it on you not reading the text book.
He loves when you participate and do ALL the online work, homework, and any extra credit he gives you. I am not a Spanish speaker and failed all his test but I still passed with an A. Take him, he's pretty cool. Warning.. he does speak Spanish the whole entire class but as long as you try he'll make sure you pass.
Excellent Professor! He is very engaging, and unless you are the type of student that shows up in the middle of class or doesn't show at all, you will have no problem. He's always available to help if you don't understand or if you have any additional questions.

Very good professor. If you are lazy then you will fail. Do your home work, class work and participate and you will do well. People are usually disrespectful towards him. He is helpful. Great professor, and you can reach him in class or in his office if you need help. Utilize all the resources offered to you.

Professor Grisales is an inspiration to me! He is here to teach people formal, textbook spanish, so if you are a spanish speaker, you still have to work to pass his class. Depend heavily on the textbook and pearson. Focus on stringing words together once you memorize them. You'll also make LOADS of notecards. Also, be aware there is a presentation!
Professor Grisales is very conversational and amiable if you show him due respect. He enjoys hearing stories about your life and sacrifices a lot to teach everyone! As long as you put the effort in and do the homework, you should be fine. Expect an A- or B.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. HE DOES NOT ANSWER EMAILS, HE SPEAKS ONLY IN SPANISH, HE DOESNT ANSWER QUESTIONS DIRECTLY. THE ONLINE WORK IS THE WORST EVER, IF YOU PUT A CAPITAL TO START A SENTENCE, YOU WILL GET THE ANSWER WRONG. YOU WILL WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. AVG TEST GRADES WERE 50-75%. STAY. AWAY.
Great teacher, passionate about the subject. If you want to learn to speak Spanish, he will assist. Set in his ways but is very humble. If you dont do the work and keep up with it you will fall behind. Think about how you learnt English, first you learnt letters, words then sentences. Its hard to learn a language and he will teach you.
