Great teacher, but has unrealistic expectations about students applying their knowledge. Tests are extremely hard - always a little more than what was covered in class. If your GPA is important - don't take him; it's not important to him.

He was a genuine nice guy, but he was hard. He made us use theories for EVERYTHING. even if it was 1 + 3 =4, we had to say WHY.

when i take his tests my eyes is going crazy. he's a good teacher but his tests are VERY unrealistic and cover much more than what he went over. No curving either, I know someone who got either a 89.7% or 89.8% and got a B. Still a good teacher...

He's a really nice guy and an awesome teacher. I always understood what was going on. I failed math 119 last fall and now I'm getting a solid B in his class. His tests are very simple and he gives extra credit for homework turned in on test days.

I absolutely recommend this teacher.... he's the reason I decided to major in math.... if you need help, he is more than willing to help. His tests are exactly what he went over in class. HW is long, but he's very laid back.

Was very helpful and clear about his expectations. Gave us a study guide/practice final before the final. Final turned out to be exactly like the practice final! Is not a hard grader. Just pay attention to lectures.

I took stats 3 times before, never made any sense until I took it with him, He is the man.

Dr. Marquez has surely spiked my interest in math; something that never happened in any of the previous math courses I've taken. He is so comfortable and inspired by theory that sometimes his explanations are tough to get, but his classes are never boring. He is quite funny, patient, and challenging.

His class is not boring but hard to understand. He does not use the book and makes his own homework problems that have no answer sheet. His practice tests don't always include everything thats going to be on the test so further study is needed.

He expects you think on the test. I wish he would just make the test EXACTLY like the practice test. I barely got a C, next time I would recommend a teacher who doesn't require so much thinking!

Never understood stats until I took his class. He explains it in ways you can understand. Do the practice tests, they really prepare you for the actual tests. Go to class and TAKE NOTES and you won't even need your book. If I had to take another math class I would DEFINITELY take him!

As a person whom already graduated with a BS in Business, this professor has been one of my better professors. He provides explanations where most professors just expect you to memorize. If you just want to get by, don't take him, but if you want to learn and understand, then this professor is it! I would be willing to take him again.

Math 245 is definitely a nerds only class. Javier was very passionate about the subject and was an engaging lecturer. He focuses on teaching you the concepts first and the mechanics second. This is opposite from most math teachers. The bright side to this approach is that I actually understood what I was doing! Javier is a talented teacher.

First I would like to respond to the students that left comments before me. The worst teacher in mesa??? NO, definitely not. His style of teaching is not consistent?? His style of teaching is very different from what we are used to, BUT you learn much more than if you will take other teachers. If you actually understand math you'll get an A. :)

He puts lots of emphasis on knowing the fundamentals. He wants people to know why they can do something, not just that they can do it. He is an excellent professor who is funny, energetic and understanding. He offers extra credit for homework. He does a problem as much as is necessary. Even though, in the begining of the semester, some students moan and groan that they have to write out each problem step by step, by the end of the semester the moaners and groaners thank him.

Calculus II is not an easy subject to grasp by far, but Prof. Marquez teaches it as painless as possible. If you're taking his class, consider yourself lucky. Going to class everyday was fun -- seriously. This guy's a riot even towards a seemingly boring topic. He provides a warm and welcoming environment to foster positive learning and questions.

This is the best teacher I have had so far in my college career. Math is not everyone's cup of tea but he makes learning so enjoyable. professor Marquez is one of the greatest teachers i have ever had. cal II is supposed to be the hardest of all 3 cals but he made it fun and interesting. he challenged you a lot but it propared you for the test. he made calculus kinda fun. he was funny and a super nice guy. i wish he was teaching calculas 3.

his online class was great. He makes videos and posts them on mathhands.com very clear much emphasis on understanding not just getting the answer fast. Don't have to buy a book either, save $$$

He is so funny. I would take another class taught by him. Sometimes in his lectures, he doesn't really know what he is talking about but it's so funny. If you don't understand something, you can always go back and rewatch the lectures over and over again.

It's clear that he loves math and loves teaching. He doesn't take attendance and the lectures are online but I still went every time. It was a lot of fun and he will explain and explain and explain until you get it. He can prove the hows and whys of math. Take him for every math you can!

He is definitely funny and a great person, however, he has a unique style of teaching that is hard for a lot of people including myself. If you have to discipline to study on your own, or have no need to study take him.

This is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. He will force you to think things through and to make things interesting, he uses multi-formula questions and answers so you don't just "get by" simply regurgitating answers. Very detailed, and its a very entertaining class. I took the online math class and it was extremely practical to do in my busy life.

Online Precalculus was a breeze. The videos were cute and I didn't really put too much into the class because it seemed high-school math. The only part that got me was the proofs on the tests.

I suck at math and I wish I could sometimes push the replay button in class so I can see how the professor did a math problem. What makes this class good is that he has his lectures on video so that you can rewind all day until u understand how to do that problem.

Great Professor! If you stick it out through this class you will have a good understanding of the subject. He isn't super easy but tests are reasonable. You wont use the book just pay attention class and ask lots of questions. this guy knows his stuff and will take the time to make sure you understand.

Quizzes are returned and graded every Tuesday. I have taken many online classes, www.mathhands.com, a site and system he created is by far the best system I have ever seen. Better than being in class. The message board requires to register the first time you use it. This is the only online class where I actually retained something. He Rocks!!

Unless you excel in math do not take his Trig class online. I was up to AP calc in HS and trig was so easy. This was definitely way more difficult. Some stuff on the homework was way more challenging than what he would go over on the lectures and had lots of typos.Still a nice teacher and would try to help out lots but you def need to work for an A

There is no way I would have passed trig without dr marquez. Ive taken trig 6 times at other colleges and I would drop the class because it makes absolutely no sense coming from a book. online math: Quizzes are due every Sunday but you can get away by sending on Mondays. 3 tests, drops 1. 3 hw problems(easy) 2 proofs (which are hard) get the easy problems fail proof=C on test. Quizzes are easy, I never looked at homework just took the quiz blind sided, did okay on some poor on some. Study=A! no study=B/C

I didn't know what an amazing professor was until I had the privilege of enrolling into Dr Marquez's class. My only negative criticism is that I cannot take this professor for my entire duration at community college.

Dr. Marquez is a good professor. I took his online class. One of the bonuses is no book! He is pretty through in his web lessons. A quiz is due each Sunday and you get an email with your score on Tuesday. Three on campus exams. They are short but tough.

Best math teacher I've ever taken. He's a freakin genius, but does not expect you to be. Math is my biggest weakness but he makes it so easy to understand. Quizzes are online, hw is not required but recommended, exams are done in class but you can use some notes. He's super funny too. If I have to take math in the future I'm taking Marques.

Apparently the person below did not understand calc. This prof is litterally the best Prof at mesa. Quizzes are in fact easy because they are similar to the self quizzes. Has videos online that he made for each lesson so double the lessons in class and online. Tests are quite fair not too easy & not too hard. I truly recommend him, great proffessor

By far the BEST prof I ever had. If math is not your thing, I suggest taking him because he teaches in a way that is easy to understand. No book. Supplies you with online videos, recommended homework with solutions, self quizzes, summaries and even e-flash cards to help you more. If you're not doing well, it's most likely you, not him.

Such an amazing calculus teacher. the overall grade is based 50% on quizzes and 50% on tests. he also dropped one test and one quiz. if anyone misses a lecture he posts videos that are just like his lecture which is super helpful. the tests are pretty difficult but if you do the homework a lot of the same questions are used. i highly recommend him.

He kept me smiling all semester long. He is truly an educator, concerned with the success of every student. His mantra; "There are no bad students, only bad teachers". He will explain the stuff in simple language and will even stop to explain the basic algebra and trig that you should already know. If he cannot teach you calculus then nobody can.

The class is fairly easy overall, but be prepared, the tests are HARD. Bottom line: A laid back class that can be extremely challenging at times. If you struggle with math, I wouldn't recommend this class to you.

This class is easy, I took his math 96 class online and it was really easy, there are quizzes due every Sunday but he offers practice quizzes and hw for you to prepare. There are 3 tests you take on campus, and they are short and easy. Overall this class is helpful and convenient! The professor is great!

Took him last fall online for math46 and thought he was an awesome teacher so I decided to take him again online for Math96. He's crystal clear in what he teaches.His videos usually runs from 15-30 mins. Quizzes are @ the end of the week. 3 exams but usually let us drop the lowest one and the lowest quiz score. Very cool teacher

I work alot and Javier made missing class doable since he posts all his lectures as videos on his site. His quizzes are online and the book isn't needed. He treats you like an adult and not like some dumb kid who needs an incentive to do well, he just wants you to learn, it's refreshing. He's also very approchable, definately recommend.

If you have a chance to take this professor please do, not only is he dedicated as can be. He makes class fun and breaks everything down step by step! I'm taking calc 2 this summer and feel completely ready thanks to javier!

I highly recommend, but be aware you must come prepared to learn, as for the rest Professor Marquez will take care of you. 3 exams, drops 1 (7 questions long) and 14 quizzes per semester (30 questions, due every Sunday) Drops lowest quiz as well. 50% exams + 50% quizzes = final grade. Makes math fun, best professor at Mesa, no doubt.

Havent finished his class yet, but I can say he is the best math teacher ever. His class isnt too easy, in fact I find it challenging. The grade may be somewhat easy to get, but that shouldnt be your only goal when you are taking a class like this! No text book which is a nice thing because class is on his website, MathHands. The problem is all the errors, he needs an editor. He cares about his students more than any teacher I've ever had but his tests are hard. I got B's and high C's on all the quizes yet the exams I get low D. The quizes and homework are not prep for his exams.

Very good professor and very enthusiastic. Makes learning math extremely simple but for those of us that have had many math classes in the past may find his style of math way different. Taking his class will make you relearn all the math you were ever taught growing up. he uses some sort of sesame street like symbols. Easy but not for everyone.

Best math teacher I have had to date. He loves the subject and does a great job of explaining it. There is a lot of mandatory work to do but he sets aside a lot of class time for it. If you do all the work, you will at least get a B. The tests are difficult but all the questions are in the non-mandatory homework. All his lectures are online.

Javier is hands down the best, most passionate professor I've ever had. Of course the class is hard, it's calc, but he drops an exam (which means you dont have to take the final) and theres weekly multiple choice take home quizzes, which is the only hw we have. This is a great instructor for students who are not math people. Visual learning, examples from the real world for explanations. Format is a little different than other online classes, but it was less of a struggle for me than I thought it would be. Not an easy A.

Find a good partner(s) and work together for the weekly quizzes. He is extremely easy going and is willing to be there for his students: he stays after class, be in his office hours ALL the time. Work extra hard and be responsible because most of my classmates did nothing and just copied the answers from the other. Be careful, his quizzes are hell!

so much good to say, this man will change the way the country learns math if he can ever stop his coding errors. Now that we have moved on to Calculus 3 without him, we still go back and watch his lectures.

Definitely find a partner early and work on the weekly quizzes together, if you do that you can easily get an A. Grade is made up of basically online hw (easy), weekly online quizzes (easy), and 4-5 in class tests (challenging). Be ready to experience a whole different style of learning because he is the definition of unconventional

Dr. Marquez really wants his students to succeed so he is very helpful and clear and overall a really nice professor. If he teaches Calculus II, I would take him again- amazing professor! Just study hard and go to his office hours whenever you have questions or stay after class and you will do great.

if the world were filled with Professors like this, there would be no one to work at 7-11 anymore. Unless of course, if they wanted to... which Dr Marquez would come in for Americanos and talk about math. he gives all his materials away for free, but you will want to pay for them anyway.

He is a great teacher who explains things very simply for people to understand. The class is a LOT of work, but if you do the work its an easy A. You also learn so much more than other Calc 2 classes. We were doing problems other professors couldn't do without grad-school techniques. He teaches you creative thinking and really makes math fun

Where else can you have access to a PhD every afternoon for help? He also has a unique way of teaching. Uses online flash cards to help learn the rules of calculus. I am now taking my fourth class from Dr. Marques.

This is probably the most passionate professor at Mesa. Calc is all about understanding the basics and DABS(his own website) will teach you them. When you get stuck, he is always at his office hours and there to help. This guys deserves to be paid way more than he brags about.

Best professor. Great sense of humor, easy class, got me hyped about math. Very clear, easy to understand. Explains everything, and very well. Makes it easy to get an A because he wants you to learn for the sake of learning the material, not for a grade. 10/10 would love to take another one of his classes. Brilliant guy. And no textbooks required!

very passionate about teaching and lectures are fun and entertaining. Not your typical math professor. 4 exams including a final which can be dropped, tons of extra credit, quizzes are hard but he helps out in office hours and is always willing to stay after lecture to work any math problem. exams are sometimes based on daabz so do them all.

He's really friendly with his students. His website is very complete and explained any thing in there. But if you want a good grade , you need to spend at least 2 hours per week on his website to study and do the homework.

The guy is amazing as hell!! Such a nice and caring individual. I never worked so hard and made so many friends in one semester like this. Everyday was a joy to go to Calculus and see all the support for math! I went to his office hours all the time and he always would be there. I liked his online daabz and videos so I could practice what I forgot!

Javier is one of the best Math instructors I have ever had because he gives you all the tools to really understand the course material. You really have to spend at least three hours if you want to get an A.

HIGHLY recommend-no book needed, awesome Prof! All of his lectures are online (mathhandsdotcom) so you're able to pause the video to take notes or rewind if you need to go over something again. He has worksheets with solutions posted for each section as well as a self quiz. The only way you'll fail his class is if you're not putting in the work.

Javier is not bad at all. Give the class some effort and you'll pass no problem. He's also around near the end of the class ready to answer questions on material. As others have said, there is a online component for homework. One con is there is no book. Very inspirational and was never bored listening to lectures. I am now the life of the party!

You might need a lot of time to study by yourself. No textbook needed, but he has his own website that contains videos. There are home-quizzes every week, which are hard.. but you have at least 5 submissions. Tests are way easier, compared to the quizzes. This is a math class. It should not be easy without studying. Just study study study.

Prof. Marques is probably the best professor I've taken yet. He really helps you understand the material and really helps you succeed. If you really put the time into his class and not just do the bare minimum, you can for sure get an A. I recommend to all!

Professor Javier is an awesome Calc professor. it is a hard subject but he teaches so u understand clearly and explains well. Tests aren't too bad and his practice exams and similar to test so they help prepare u. His Dabs homework isn't too bad but helps u learn. Best math professor I've had and Highly recommend to all. Wish he taught next level.

He was one of the great professors I've ever had at Mesa. His quizzes are hard, but you have at least 5 submissions and they are home quizzes. You can work on that with your class mates if you would like to do so. His exams are pretty similar to his practice exam, but there are some challenging questions as well. Just don't be lazy and keep up.

Javier is the best prof that I ever had. People who dont like him is because their are lazy. If you do all homework and quizzes the tests will very easy. His website is amazing and Im still using for calc 2. I wish that I could take him for every math class.

He is really good for the ones who take it serious. If you do all the HW and quizzes the tests will be fairly easy. Amazing professor.

I enjoyed Javier's class. He's fair, communicates his policies and let's you throw away the lowest grades on quizzes and exams. There is a LOT of homework if you're shooting for an A. One downside, he basically disappeared during the last two weeks of the semester. No email or website communication to direct requests for information.

I took him on intersection for stats online. He gave lots of extra credit. The quizzes are hard but if you practice them, you'll get A on the exam. 3 test 1 final. Drops the lowest test and quiz score. He has DAABZ assignment of 150 points each but they are really easy concepts. Take him you wont regret it!

Javier is a caring passionate professor who enjoys teaching math. There a lot of take-home quizzes. 3 exam and 1 final exam. He grades on a curve and drops lowest exam and quiz. Opportunity to work in groups.

If you're used to boring math classes. wait no longer. Professor Marques is hilarious and passionate about what he does. He has a way of inspiring you to want to learn math. First math class I EVER enjoyed taking. After his class I've appreciated Math a lot more. Do not on hesitate on taking his class, you won't regret it.

This professor was very much in line with my style of learning. He focused on the 'why' as much as the how. He definitely set the bar for me as someone coming back to mathematics after a 10 year hiatus. Trig can be pretty sparse in terms of material, fortunately he weaved in some more advanced topics which I'm thankful to have been exposed to.

Javier is so cool. He is always in office hours and cares about his students understanding the material. Professor Marquez is hands down the best math teacher ever! there's a quiz every week so that gives you a lot of chances to compensate bad grades, also multiple submissions allowed ;) homework is online and easy just takes some time and few clicks attendance is mandatory by the school so its better if u dont skip class lots of office hours too!

I took his full spring semester online and it wasn't too bad. He drops the lowest quiz and exam, and his quizzes always have extra credit opportunities. His lectures he posts are pretty funny and well though out.

loved this class because it was on my time. The videos he puts online are explanatory and cover all material. Daabz is also the website he uses and its free and easy. Easy hw that uses repetition. 40% for Quizs and 40% for Exams. 5 exams in total and 14 quizzes and he drops your lowest score. Easy to get an A/B if you put in the time and effort.

This professor uses his own website instead of canvas which is confusing at first but when you get used to it, its very organized. There is a quiz every week which you can take 5 times. There are 4 exams, if you take a 5th exam he drops your lowest exam. There is a lot of homework, so you have to work for your grade. I would def take him again!

Everything is online and I took the winter intercession stats 119 course. Absolutely love the website he uses and its just an overall understanding professor who is willing to help on any problems. He also drops lowest exam and quiz score. Definitely recommend!

There is a quiz every week with extra credit opportunities on each quiz. He has his own YouTube channel with his lectures and also uses his own website. The YouTube channel lectures are very amazing and informative. The class is well organized and not difficult at all as long as you keep up with his lectures and don't skip any homework. Amazing.

He's really funny and he'll tell you that if you don't like math, its bc u dont like it "yet". He's an unconventional, but good teacher and if you're lost for whatever reason review the online lectures, but the material is mostly easy. He also gives plenty of wiggle room to boost your grade but you need to be active.

He makes calculus II easy to comprehend, provides students with online lectures just in case students want to review, gives exams just like the stuff he goes over in class, homework, and quizzes, he also believes "there is no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher" which is so refreshing to hear. took Javier for calc 2 and calc 3 and really enjoyed both classes. His teaching method is essentially letting everyone know they'll pass (and easily) but that then opens the door to learning the actually math. Wether that actually works or not is ehhhh but his grading isn't bad. Quizzes- online and collaborative (45%), Exams (45%), and HW (10%)

I enjoyed Marquez's class, it was definitely an easy A for calc 3. He has his own website (daabz) which really isn't hard to learn. Gives extra credit if you get 100% on quizzes & tests, which isn't hard to obtain. Tests contain questions from the study guide. Didn't have to finish the hw bc of extra credit. Looked forward to his classes.

Completing most assignments well will get you extra credit. He emphasizes procedures and wanting to learn over worrying about grades and right answers. Quizzes are incredibly hard but are similar to what you get on the exams. He uses his own website, daabz, which works fine.

Professor Marquez is the best. His lectures were clear, and inspirational. He is funny. I would recommend to take it in person. During office hours he was ALWAYS willing to help even though I asked lots of questions. recommended to students that are consistent with studying. Easy A if you are willing to DO most of the handouts and SEE the lectures.

Andrea Dominguez : inspires me to build a less robotic connection to math. His course is set up so that if you try your best, you will get an A. Dont think however this is a course where no work or studying gets you an A, if get do poorly on the tests and dont do daabz, you will not get a good grade, however, the course has great support.

Professor clearly shows passion and love for his subject which makes class very enjoyable.

I took his class for both cal 1 and 2, if you have to take calculus class, just take his class. tips, join the discord, go to tutor, do his online daabz(which is a flash card thing), then you will get an A, at least a B, you just need to get used to the website which he wrote on his own. best professor ever

If you are looking to take a math class and have the option to take Professor Marquez, you will not regret it. During his lectures, you could tell he was passionate about math and created an engaging and light hearted space. I appreciated his teaching style because he prioritized the understanding of material without stressing about your grade.

Took Professor Marquez Fall 2024. Man is a living legend of the math community! Best professor ever, as he doesn't bore you with lectures, he inspires EVERY student to do their best and explains every step! Do NOT slack on his Daabz assignments (WORK IN GROUPS!). His iPad lectures are extremely helpful (uses different colors!).

Hilarious teacher, his lectures are inspiring, and he explains his topics amazingly. Getting started with calc was super hard, and I'm glad I took his class. Make sure to get ahead of class so you understand the material more easily and you'll be good.

Stayed with this professor since MATH141 for a reason! He makes math very enjoyable and he really cares about his students. This dude is a math yoda and he's not a tough grader! He uses his own website called daabz, lectures are chill. Every week, there is a quiz and flashcards, just don't fall behind. Also has lecture videos. 4-5 exams total.
