Doesn't speak english very well sometimes (can be rather annoying.) He's pretty fair for the most part. Expects to much out of you for the points he gives you per project or paper. If you do the work and go to class. You'll probably get a good grade.
Prof. Moreno is an awesome teacher! He is one of the only teachers I've had who is geniunely interested in his students and it shows in the way he teaches and communicates with his class. He does something different every day, not just lecture.Only hard thing was the research paper, tests & quizzes were cake, lots of e.c. too.
Mr. Moreno is truly an awsome professor and person. His lectures and assignments are very well explained and actually beneficial outside of class. He listens and is concerned abt his students and how well they perform.Although demanding,he provides detailed outlines and is extremely encourageing. He provides a fun environment and is quite refreshing.
mr.moreno was great, but was very demanding, if you dont have time, don't take his class!! Do your work and you shoudnt have any problems! Beware of the research paper!:)
Professor Moreno is great....make class fun an dis quite interesting himself....It's hard to understand his english when he gets into what he's teaching but i would recommend him...
He may be a good teacher, but he is very inappropriate. He constantly uses things of a sexual nature to teach. He showed a video on female circumsision that was horribly out of line.

Very inconsistent with regards to work assignments. Doesn't cover the chapters in class, so you don't know if you are understanding the material correctly. Gives definitions that you need to know, but often his definitions conflict with the textbooks. English is sometimes hard to understand. Can be very frustrating!
I am enrolled in this class now. I have not been to school in 25 years. I was very afraid and did not know what to expect. His assignments can be difficult but if you need further explanation he is very willing to help you. I've seen nothing inappropriate about his teaching. Any subjects he has covered although may be shocking are the truth.
Whatever, I don't know what you are talking about. You are obviously a man, so that's why you see nothing inappropriate in the misery of the female sex.
I record all his lectures due to his strong accent & rapid talking. Listen up ya all. Whatever rules he tells U to do in class. FOLLOW THEM. Whatever assignments he presents in class. DO THEM! Whatever X-tra credits he gives in class DO EM ALL! U can earn over 480 points to get an A in his class. This guy is easygoing & interesting!
Francisco is the hardest person in the college to understand, he speaks very poor english, his is very self centered and talks about himself all class long. He is cocky and I hated every second of his class! He also gets mad if you dont agree with his issues on not spending money and saving the world! ugh
After 5 yrs of not being in school I was worried after the first day but in the end Mr Moreno was very understanding and helpful. He's teachings are very interesting and his life experiences make the class fun and worth taking. You just have to do all the assignments as told and extra credit along with the research paper and you are set.
If you do every assignment, & R happy w/ your grade, then you do not need to do the final - COOL! But he doesn't mention this until over halfway through the class, so if you have already missed something, too late. English is VERY hard to understand, be prepared to listen carefully. If he is in a bad mood, then watch out (snap) girlfriend!
great teacher!! just do your homework and you can pass the class! Helps out a great deal... dont miss classes!!
He is a great teacher. Though he might scare you the first week, his class is easy if you do all you work. As long as you dont miss any assignments or very few you will pass with an A and not have to take a final. You do have to write a big research paper but he lays it out to a step by step process which makes it vey easy to write.
what made him annoying to me was that he graded me down because he said I didnt need an A, and that its a life lesson, said I was too smart and that I dont need his class to go far, very strict with attendance it can kill your grade in the end, you dont have to take the final but if you do it can help you or hurt you, really not the best teacher
I am a senior at San Diego State Univ and took this class at the community college because it is cheaper. I really enjoyed Prof Moreno. Some people complained about his class and say "oh he's too hard... he's too strict..." but I found him just the same as any of my professors at the university level. He's great and very passionate about his field
He's firm but fair, if you do all the work and don't miss class you'll get an easy A. He's passionate about his field and it motivates students to do better. READ the text book, you don't have to take the final but it can only help you in the end, it wont hurt your grade if you do poorly Great teacher!! Don't miss class or be late & turn off cells
(honors)this is seriously one of the best teachers i have ever had. he is VERY clear in evey aspect with what he wants on assignments this actually made the assignment easier and quicker to complete. hes a very positive and upbeat person (his classes are not boring) and his topics are very interesting. he does a perfect job at what he does no joke
One of the worst teachers in City College. His ego is bigger than his accent. Very difficult to understand and is a very annoying teacher. Don't take his class please.
Prof. Moreno is very clear about what's expected in class and on specific assignments. He's very available to his students. He obviously cares a lot about what he teaches and encourages his students to get Bachelor's and Master's degrees, which I think is great. His class is n't easy, but it isn't grueling either.
viva sociology!
Go to class every single day. don't answer the phone even if its your birthday. One day i went outside of classroom during class to answer my phone. It was my birthday, so people was calling me. He takes points off for getting out of classroom, even if it is to go to the restroom. Those points he took off, could have given me an A.
1) Go to every class. 2) Do all the assignments 3) He's not so bad and it's not so scary- especially for the paper. He has a detailed outline on what he wants. 4) he really wants YOU to succeed and to accomplish your goals- whatever they may be. 5) Good luck. Dont give up either. You'll benefit from his class.
Very unclear, all he cares about are comminty service and the research paper. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME IN HIS CLASS. DOESNT TEACH!!!!!!.DONT BUY THE BOOK WASTE OF MONEY.
Professor Moreno is a very a great instructor that will teach you how to become a better citizen, how to help the community, you could get an A in tha class, after he made you think that you were going to fail he makes it seem like is the hardest thing in the world to pass his courses, but the onlu thing he dislikes is when you are absent. hes cool
The professor talks down to students, treats everyone as a recent high school graduate despite the diverse student body at city college. He seems to think no one has written a lengthy research paper before, and proceeds to instruct the class to do things in his very specific way. If you aren't a fresh high school grad, stay clear!
Want to take a pointless class? This is the one. He's not a bad guy, he just has a lot of his own stuff going on. Very interested in promoting himself. 12page research paper which i doubt he even read, some volunteer work and a presentation. If you don't need this class, don't take it!
OMG i had to withdrawl from this class because he wanted things is way or the highway. you hardly go over the book. ALl he cares about is the service learning project. he's a smart guy but i don't recommend taking him!
His intentions are in the right place but this class is a joke. He wants to change the world but it's just not happening. Only used to book once. We had one exam and the study guide was completely off topic. Wow.
This professor has unreal expectations of his students, especially those who have jobs and other classes. He is rude to his students and is always trying to 'teach a lesson' that has nothing to do with the course. Unless you want to devote your life to his class i would skip taking him.
At first I was dismayed over all the work required, but then found it interesting. Brought the subject down to earth + if you do the extra credit, will have the last 2 weeks free + no final. Also will use the research paper at my transfer college. I'm a return student and found his attitude helpful and kind to all. This became my favorite class!
The other reviews are pretty much spot on. At first I thought the language barrier was the problem but then I realized that this Professor is misguided and shamelessly self promoting. If you try to inject any sort of critical thought or analysis or contradict anything he says, he refuses to acknowledge your piont. I was happier with Prof Fischer.
rather quite boring to me. is a very well educated man but i found him talking about himself too much. i would be proud of myself if i have accomplished what he has but he takes it to the extreme. one day in class out of the blues he commented that he woke up at 4 in the morning and took a 2 mile walk...???? he demands a lot
I don't see how the others saw the negativity here. He may be a little self promoting but theres nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments and using that to try to want others to achieve the same or higher. I found that he was very inspiring and a very easy teacher, there is some work but its all very easy.
my first impression of francisco was bad i thought he was cocky and mean, as the weeks go by you see how much he loves his students and how much he wants to see them succeed. behind his thick hispanic accent, he is an amazingly caring and kind individual. hes become one of my favorite teachers! I RECOMMEND HIS CLASS!!!
He is very strict, and he feels that he is the definition of success. Don't be absent, it will cost you! He has a very thick accent, which caused me to become confused many times. If you absent or late, don't bother showing a real reason for it, hewon't care. Hewill get very mad if you challenge his ways ofthinking, overall, please don't take him
Want to learn anything about sociology? Don't take this class. Want to round out your resume with volunteer work, B.S. publication credits, mandatory symposium presentations with, waste $80 on a book you never use, write pointless papers and listen to broken English from someone who refers to themselves in the third person, etc? SOC 110 for you!
He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. He remembers no one's name. Everyone is called "you." He gives too much work for a 3 credit course. We can't have our own opinion in his class. Yet, it's near impossible to understand a word he says. Maybe Spanish should be a pre-req?
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! He gives too much work for a 3 credit course. Near impossibe to understand him. He calls everyone "you". He refuses to remember names. Just plain bad!
I had to drop his class. Very unorganized. As a visual learner don't take him. Very strict, deducts points in every move that you do...very inconsiderate...take someone else.
This man is the worst teacher i have had in college, he doesn't make ANY sense and can't even speak english, his classes are a waste of time and energy. Take anyone but him
Professor Moreno does put a lot into service learning and the research paper, but his expectations are very clear. He likes talking about interesting things, and if you participate you'll learn a lot. He does not spoonfeed you or cater to laziness, maybe that's what these people have a problem with, but don't listen, he's a very passionate teacher.
I got an A on all my everything but was absent 3 times and did not do a lot of extra credit now I have an F still doesnt make sense but make sure you do a lot of extra credit and don't miss class
Moreno is horrible. Dont take his class!
He has to grow on you. At first didn't like him but he is a very wise man. Is always about helping you out but doesn't like late homework. Is much about Service learning so be ready to do some volunteering! Would def take another one of his classes!
Prof.Moreno is a passionate teacher, and does care about his students....his expectations are high, and one cannot miss class, but he prepares us well for the future. AND he encourages class debate--I always enjoyed listening to other's experiences, the class was lively!! Soc 101 and 110 involves time and energy, and you do learn.
Run stay clear of this class! I have never with drew froma class. He is HARD to understand. He demands way way way to much homework for a 3 unit class. He talks down to students in which I ended up defending a student who I didnt even know. He only believes in his ideas. I will take another sociology class with someone eles. RUN -
Moreno has been one of my favorite teachers at SDCC. Talks about himself a lot, but if you care about what you're learning, and do all the work, he is easy. I really was interested in what I was learning so it was easy and fun, but I could see if you don't appreciate Sociology how it could be boring, and too much work.
Moreno is an excellent teacher. I can't even imagine how this course could be difficult. You would have to be a lazy kid coming just out of high school with no real understanding of college studies to think this is hard. And even if you've been in college this course is easy. He offered plenty of extra credit and was very sincere in his passion.
not a bad prof. but expects students to ahve a flawless attendance record and will fail u if u dont. the service asssignment is bull but is worth more than half ur grade so do it!!! but thats if u want to take this class
Extremely helpful, loved and enjoyed all the classes. He has one oral presentation that you talk about anything you want. Do all the assignments. It was an easy A class. Learned a lot from this class. Enjoy and have fun!!!
Loved this class. Only lazy people complain. Awesome professor. Passionate instructor. He can be really strict when it comes to turn in assignments. There is lots of Extra Credit that you can do to avoid taking the final exam. Loved Professor Moreno.
He speaks w/ an unclear accent. He speaks in fragmented sentences. I lost respect 4 him when he preached how the healthcare system isn't functioning & how another professor is forced 2 teach so she can get her meds filled 4 free yet tells a student he should withdraw when the student was in same situation. No compassion for students.
I hatted this class.. he expects you to never miss a class no matter WHAt. He will make you do a 20 page paper and wants its perfect. he sweats alot too.. its kind of distracting.... i just didnt like how hard he was on his students.... Very demanding...
Prof Moreno comes off as very demanding at the beginning of the semester, but i think its because he is very passionate about his field of study. He gives precise directions on what he wants and seldom accepts work that is not on par.
Do not take this persons class!!! he is extremely pompus and cocky, and i could barely understand his broken english, not to mention he is realy rude!
Arrogant, egotistical, self-important.It appears that he believes Sociology is the ONLY class that a student has. Job, Family, Other economic commitments are of no concern. It seems he believes that all students are fresh out of high school and know nothing of responsibility. The accent makes it EXTREMELY difficult to understand.
Seemed unfairly demanding the 1st day but as the semester went on, I just realized how passionate and driven he is. He's a great teacher and this ended up being one of my favorite classes ever. But be warned. If you are lazy or just want an easy A, don't take this class. This professor is only for students passionate about learning sociology.
I must admit, I was really quite put off from what he conveyed to us early on. I figured this guy out as most of us who stuck it out in class, he's agreat Teacher, a wonderful humanitarian, and an involved Professor, who wants you to succeed and will help you do so. He weeds people out early, ended up loving this guy.
He is a great professor, not easy, but fair. if you just want an easy A, do not waste your time and dont sign up for this class. you must be serious and committed. i loved his class, he was the only professor who actually seemed like he loved teaching, and i would take it again in a heart beat. do not get scared of the first impression!! :)
Great Proffesor, all the people who complain on here are just slackers who wanted an easy A. His accent isnt even bad, people are just trying to get personnal. If you want to learn about Sociology, take his class.
PROF IS HONEST, SINCERE AND DEMANDING. THEREFORE IF YOU ARE SEEKING AN EASY CLASS AND NOT WORK FOR THE GRADE DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE ONE THAT WANT TO LEARN, AND EARN THE GRADE THIS IS THE CLASS FOR YOU. DO NOT BE DRAWN AWAY FROM THE LOW RATING OTHERS MADE, THOSE ARE THE SLACKERS WHO FEEL JUST SITTING THERE GUARANTEE THEM AN A.
this was the best class that i havever taken, Professor Moreno is incredibly passionate about his subject, he is by far the best teacher I have ever had.
Was probably one of the worst teachers i've had in my learning career, i had a DEATH in my family and was unable to attend one class, he then asked me to write a paper on how i felt about it. To me that is rude and incredibly thoughtless. I immediately dropped his class. Glad i did, i couldn't understand a word he said, and he's very self centered.
He is crazy!! He exapects you to have a perfect attendance when he missed a class lecture because his car got tolled!! You have to buy his text book because he published his own book!!! Not a fun class!!! He is not nice!
At time, assignments seem futile but everything that he asks you to do eventually tie together. If you give the class your all, you?d be doing yourself a favor b/c this course can teach you life lessons if you allow it to. Accent is thick but if you ask him to go slower/repeat, he finds no insult in that request & will. Do recommend!
he is very strict, gives out numerous amounts of assignments and definitely not understanding. his accent is super think and he tends to put people down... hated him!!
Teaches very well, he will repeat explanations until everyone in the class understands what he speaks of. Must turn in almost every assignment. Attendance is crucial! Overall, super humorous person.
By all means, my favorite teacher. This is my first semester in college, and I look forward to class everyday because I enjoy his class so much. I admit, he does assign a lot of homework, and a pretty complicated 15 page research paper, but he lays out what he expects, and is more than helpful. I would recommend Moreno.
Very active on and off campus with students, gets students involved in helping the community.
Is a great professor. Very nice(to those who want to learn), rude only to those who are frequently absent and never do the homework. My advice is do the work and go to class!
Loves what he does, repeats himself often. He does get mixed up on dates but never last minute. he is very detailed on papers and lays out exactly what he wants from you. easy class if you go and pay attention. My fav professor at city! He will help you in anyway he can, very passionate about his students
I enjoyed every minute of his class. Gives out a good amount of h.w. and a very detailed 15 page research paper, but gives you PLENTY of time to complete everything. Very passionate about his classes, and takes them very seriously. He is very involved within the community, and expects you to be as well. The BEST teacher as City College.
He comes off as very difficult. He gives a lot of work but it pays off. There is so much to do to earn an A but it creates an appreciation for the subject.
PROFESSOR IS VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD.
He is a great teacher! Very straight forward, nice to those who like to learn and mean to those who don't. As long as you do your best, come to class, and complete some extra credit, YOU would get an super easy A. One more time, you have to come to class cos point deduction for absence is a BxTxH.
I took this class out of curiousity, and I'd say I ended up liking it! Everything in this class seems 50/50. If you do your part in the class, it's do-able. I wouldn't say easy only cause his readings and essays are extra mins/hrs of your time. Pros: Grades fairly, ENJOYS classroom participation, and it's open minded Cons: Required book
Teacher has a difficult way of explaining things. He is very hard to follow and understand do to a very heavy accent. If I could have taken a different instructor I would have.
He is the best teacher at City College!!
Easy A! Do the extra credit!!! Totally worth it and they're easy, especially since you can do them all on campus. Do the assignments (which may seem a little hard at first but gets EASY) and you'll get a great grade. Most quizzes are take home and he outlines everything. Don't let them PowerPoint presentation and 25 pg research paper scare you because he outlines the whole thing. I totally procrastinated with my projects HOURS before it was due and got 100% on both. Easy.
He is a really good teacher, he likes you to participate in class discussions. When he tells you to study for a quizz you have to study! Quizzez are not that hard but if you don't study you'll struggle. He is very helpful, on the last research paper he offers his time to student and he helps you directly telling you "this is good, this isn't..."
Over all this teacher was okay. I like he's approach to teaching and making his students think, but if you haven't ever experienced "Death by PowerPoint" you will! Not to mention he completely disappeared halfway through the ,fall 2014, semester. Other students who have taken his class before that were in my class say this isn't the first time.
