Good professor. I really like his textbook. It was $18 bought at the repography and is extremely useful. Great prof!

Awesome prof! He's cool and hot!
Awesome personality and knows his material. Final exam and midterms are fair. Plus he's good looking
GREAT PROF!
Amazing class! Very interesting! One of the best profs i've ever had!
Amazing prof!!! Such a nice man to talk to and he really knows his stuff! One of my favourites... and hot too!
Best prof ever! Be sure to go to every class because he drops hints for questions on the midterms and exams. Also has a very great sense of humor and makes the class interesting
Awesome prof! Make sure to pick him over Yan. He is very clear and concise, tells you what material you don't need to know for exams, and what you do need to know. Has a review class before midterms. No textbook or course note reading necessary for an A! He likes what he does, and it shows. Very interesting class made enjoyable by Pagotto. :)
AWESOME prof! He knows the topic very well! Very clear in his slides and explanations. Go to the lab if you can... a lot of fun and really enhances your learning and understanding of Microbiology. Also very easy to talk to! Thanks Prof. Pagotto!
Sometimes not as clear, but decent professor. Exams can blindside you.
Awesome teacher, good course. Study nosocomial infections well for the final :p
Excellent professor. Extremely helpful. However, the course itself is not easy. You need to study and comprehend the material well. Midterms are tricky. The final was exactly what the prof said it would be like; focus greatly on the lectures after the second midterm. Good luck =)
AWESOME
He is simply amazing!
REALLY good at teaching. Also he's really funny and he makes you like the course :) Excited to go to his lab!
Funny, makes the subject ACTUALLY interesting. His finals are amazing with bonus questions that everyone will get no matter what they answer! Fair midterms.
one of my favourite classes ! this prof makes the course extremely interesting and fun to learn. He gives lots of hints for the midterms so pay lots of attention in class..
Obsessed with Listeria
Such a good prof!!! u can tell hes rly passionate abt wat he teaches. he is rly rly patient, helpful & replies 2 emails fairly quickly & hes so nice. this class wasnt so bad, u just have 2 make sure 2 do ur readings & dont leave it for last minute. coming 2 class isnt MANDATORY but he mentions what will & what wont be on the midtermexam (no txtbk)
Awesome prof, he's really down to earth and loves talking with the students! Expect to participate in class and if you take down notes from his lectures you will ace every test. His tests are highly based off of what he stresses in his lectures, so make sure to note what he focuses on!
FAV PROF. Show up to lectures and print off notebook he gives u. Only highlight what he focuses on (and he uses red font in his lectures as clear indicators of what's on the exam). Listen to his "review" session because he basically gives you all answers. Take some time to study all bacteriaviruses and its very easy to get an A+ I got 100% on all
The best prof Ive had so far at uOttawa. He is very clear on expectations of info needed for exams. He is very engaging and quickly became the only lecture I actually looked forward to attending. I will miss this class for quite some time. It is also essential to be as enthusiastic about Listeria as he is.
If you pay attention in lectures and study a bit after them (just memorizing) you can do very well... He is clear about what will be on exams and is very fun to listen to ! Great prof!
Really enjoyed the course and can genuinely say his class was entertaining and interesting! Sometimes the expectations were unclear and content was disorganized, which was a downside, but overall he is great!
OBSESSED WITH LISTERIA! Franco is a great prof! Be sure to attend class - what he highlights in red in his notes is what's going to be on the midterms and final exam. Focus on viruses and nosocomial infections for the final and you'll be guaranteed an 80%+ on the final. Super approachable and down to earth guy in and out of class.
Awesome prof. Had him for the first time for this class and I want to take every class he teaches. His midterms and exams are all memory work and there is quite a bit of content
Best prof I've had in my first year. What he teaches you about microbiology in that class is relevant to your life, things that you can apply and recognize. He always does review sessions before class so it forces you to remember the important things that are gonna be on the exams. Exams are really fair if you study! Love you Franco!!!
Frano is the best, very clear about whats on midterms and final. Go to class and highlight what he says you should know, listen at the beginning of every class because he reviews what was important from the previous lecture. Focus of nosocomials and viruses for the final and your guranteed an A, just have to put the memory work in.
Franco is a great prof who is really clear about what he wants from his students. He gives plenty of little hints about exam questions in class and makes the content interesting, so going to class is definitely recommended. He also made a free course pack so that you don't have to pay for a textbook which is great. I would definitely recommend!!
I LOVE FRANCO! Going to HSS1100 was more like going to a stand-up comedy show rather than to class, he is hilarious! He's very down to Earth (doesn't like to be called Dr. or Prof), made me genuinely interested in microbio (got an A+) and he relates the content to real life situations. Bonus: Franco's classes ALWAYS end an hour or 2 early!
Great prof, made microbiology interesting. Make sure you listen during his review sessions because the questions he asks there are basically the same ones on the midterms and exam.
Favourite Prof by far. Content is interesting as it is, but he's hilarious and makes 7-10pm's bearable (he lets you out early too!) Very clear regarding midterms and final exams, and gives hints to the questions that will be asked. Attend the lectures if you want an A+. Memorize the slides and read the course pack and you are guaranteed an A.
He gives so many hints for the midterms and final in his class, so attend them! Very interesting material and he makes it very practical for every day life, as he went to med school and knows how to make the info relevant. Talks to students after class and actually CARES. Loved him
Easy easy class. probably one of the best classes I've taken here. his exams are super fair and for the final he gives so many hints go to his last class! study his lecture slides and you should be fine. easy A! he genuinely cares for his students and he's really really nice. i would love to have him again and i wish all profs were like him
Franco is hands down the best prof at uOttawa. Listeria Hunter by day, awesome microbio prof by night. The man's lectures are brilliant and he covers only important things. He keeps reviewing past lectures and his exams are 100% fair. Best part of the class was when I was sooooo close to proving to him that I can wash my hands properly.
He makes a very difficult topic very interesting. One of my favourite profs!
Honestly take microbio with him. He lets you out early every single class (1-2 hours early) and this class wasn't that hard to manage. He's super friendly and if you go over the slides and listen in class you'll get a great mark.
Franco was a great prof. Some of his exam questions can be a bit tricky but as long as you study the slides you should be fine.
Class has a lot of memorization and difficult material, but he makes it an easy A because he reuses the same midterms/final as previous years. Anyone who says its easy, probably just had previous tests. You could get away with not going to class and just studying them the day before.
Great prof! Very funny and enjoys what he is teaching. It is an intimidating course with lots of memorizing but he makes it seem more fun. Also lectures are always a lot shorter than expected. Show up because sometimes he gives big hints
One of the best profs I have ever had. Extremely passionate about the material he teaches and tells you what is important to memorize and what is not.
Franco is literally the best prof I've had all semester and he made microbiology & immunology (which is quite content heavy) into such a fun and easy class! I wish I could take it again tbh. He made 7pm classes bearable and let us out early almost every lecture. He's also pretty cute ;)
fav proff, makes lectures extremely enjoyable and presents the content in an easy way so that its easy to understand and reviews important points and hints for exams almost every lecture, the course is content heavy so you definitely need to put in the time and effort to do well but i mean with Franco's its worth it
He reuses his old exams with minor changes which you can easily find on Coursehero and Notebro, but his lectures are still worth going to. He's really interesting and ends his lectures an hour early
Lots of things to memorize and learn in class, however the professor was super funny and made the lectures not as horrible. He also lets you out of class early. Tests are fairly simple, just study your notes and the online power points.
REAL GEM, his midterms are basically the same as previous years so if you don't have enough time to study his slides/your notes, my advice would be to just go over past midterms and you should be fine. There's no textbook and attending class isn't mandatory but he almost always gives hints to upcoming midterms/exam!! Content heavy but doable :)
Franco has a great sense of humour/ good lecturer. Attend class because sometimes the lecture slides online do not contain all the content he speaks about in class. Exams are decent some mc some short answer. This class contains a lot of medical terms that can be tricky to memorize. Franco talks a lot about himself which can be annoying.
Pagotto knows his stuff! Always available for questions and very clear on what is expected for exams. His exams perfectly reflect what was taught in class and questions are very easy if you studied. Highly recommend!
Super interesting prof. Obsessed with Listeria and gives interesting lectures. Cue cards will be your lifesavers. The material is difficult but searching up old exams online helped me a lot. The midterms were more difficult than the finals. Great prof, cool dude, interesting to listen to, knows a lot about med school and health in general.
Obsessed with listeria and being Italian, very proud to be Franco. He's a really good lecturer, tells a lot of good stories, especially about how incompetent people in the government are. His exams are pretty fair and non-cumulative. Loved him! Look him up on youtube and spotify!!!!!!!!!!
SUCH a great prof! Never kept us for more than 2 hours (lectures were supposed to be 7-10), makes the lectures interesting and engaging, and exams were extremely fair. Finding old midterms online was a life saver, but he does change some questions so still study! Only downside is that the exams are all cumulative, and the material can be heavy.
Love this guy. His 7-10 classes never lasted longer than 2 hours. Very clear on what will be on the exam. Little hint: he loves to reuse old exam questions. Definitely take his class if you have the chance.
Really engaging prof! This course requires a lot of memorization but the midterms and final are fair if you study. Try to find past midterms because 90% of his questions are recycled.
great prof, loved how he taught. course material was kinda tough, lots of memorization. If you know about listeria before class hell be extra happy :)
Professor Paggatto is very passionate about microbiology, namely, listeria. He works for a government lab and will offer for students to come on lab tours when possible. Cool dude, great prof, super nice.
Franco is a great prof, and has many interesting stories and fun facts. Class is online because of COVID, but he still manages to be engaging. He has clear expectations and tells you when a topic is important. Cue cards will be your best friend, but the memorization still isn't too difficult.
Great prof! Engages with the class a lot, and his lectures are very interesting. Attend the lectures because he adds in stuff not in the class notes or slides, and tests some of it. Overall great class.
He is a really great prof. I would defiantly take another one of his classes in the future. He made me excited to go to class. Very passionate about what he is teaching.
THE BEST! THE BEST! THE BEST! HE IS G.O.A.T.!!
My FAVOURITE prof! He's so kind, and tries to make everyone feel like they have a place. His lectures are super interesting and his exams are very fair! He has a bunch of notes already provided which made everything so much easier. 10000/10 recommend this class!
Pagotto! An amazing man and even better professor. Trust me you are beyond lucky if you get Pagotto for HSS1100, he makes your life 10x easier and overall just a gem! Without a doubt take Professor Pagotto's class! My best decision at uOttawa :)
Good professor. Lectures are kind of long and there aren't any breaks. Be sure to know how to wash your hands because he talks about it constantly. Overall, good class.
Dr. Pagotto's class personally for me was not so easy bc I'm just not motivated to learn about microbio lol. But overall if I was interested in microbiology I would've done much better. He is an amazing teacher truly passionate about his subject so definitely take him if you can! Tests and quizzes arent too bad just study and understand.
He is one of my favorite professors. He made learning online doable and super fun and always explained things so we'll. He also made me super interested in microbiology something I did not think I would have liked as much as I did like it.
Suuuuuuuch a good prof. Super cool, and gives reasonable exams. Protect this prof at all costs!!!! God bless Professor Pagotto!
Dr. Pagotto was an awesome professor. You could tell that he really cares for his students and their goals. He was super approachable and wanted to make the course more engaging by adding personal aspects to subjects here and there. If you study the lectures and the course notes you'll be golden. There's rarely any surprise questions.
Solid choice for a prof that I almost forgot he was one! He really connects with you outside the classroom, which is great & transfers his wisdom for future years. Really fair evaluations (he makes them seem harder than they actually are), so don't be alarmed!
10/10 gem in the Health Science department
The course materials were a little heavy (all the different bacterias and viruses) but professor Pagotto made everything so much simpler and so fun!! I really recommend to attend the lectures because it's easy to fall behind. 100% one of the best professor I've had! he is so dedicated to his students and you can tell he loves what he does.
Best prof ever. He gave us a binder of pre-written notes to annotate on during lectures which was really helpful. He's so kind and funny, and genuinely wants us to do well. Tests and quizzes are super fair if you know the material. I found this to be an easy A+, but there is a lot of memorization (so keep that in mind if it's not your strong suit).
as long as you go to class you're fine. he doesn't record lectures and adds good information when presenting
Prof. Pagotto is one of the best professors I've ever had. Had a quiz and my internet went out, and he made time out of his day to let me finish. Ottawa is so lucky to have such a great guy. He is very kind, and he cares for his students. His learning style is very easy to follow as well! If you can take him, then do so!
So lucky to have been in his class. This was by far my favorite class, there is a lot of memorizing but the exams were very fair and directly from the lectures so be sure to watch them. 10/10 professor absolutely loved him.
Dilf of a professor, first of all. Secondly, he was a genuine and caring professor that was extremely fair. Exams and quizzes were proctored via zoom and were fair as long as you studied. He didn't want students spending money on a textbook, so he had course notes he wrote for us to use instead. Super kind man and I'd love to take his class again.
One of the best prof out there!! Highly recommend him. Super organized and exams are straight forward. He also gives lots of hints about the exams during the lectures. 2 quiz, 2 midterms and final.
Dr. Pagotto is a fantastic man - super funny. However, his class is tough. There is a lot of memorization to be done. You need to know VERY specific details. Stuff that seems irrelevant often shows up on exams.
Prof Pagotto is genuinely one of the best professors I've had so far. Micro is not an easy subject, but Pagotto makes it interesting. You can tell he really wants his student to succeed and does everything to allow us to do well. He's hilarious and gives great life advice. Take this class, even if it's not required for you, you won't regret it.
Great lectures and provided very interesting examples from his own work that helps you to understand the content. 2 midterms/quizzes and a final. The quizzes were short and gave a preview of what the midterm was going to be. All were overall straightforward. Definitely take this prof for HSS1100 as he is one of the best profs at uottawa.
BEST PROF AT UOTTAWA. Dr. Pagotto is insanely knowledgeable and makes micro super interesting. It is a hard course but if you put the work in, it is very doable. I cannot recommend him more... his lectures extend into the real world and makes learning fun. It was truly a privilege to be able to learn micro by a professor like him.
honestly i have a crush on this professor. teheheh rawr. in all honesty, he's by far the best professor i've had so far. he's so approachable and knows what he's talking about. all his classes are worth coming to! take him!!!!
One of the best professors at uOttawa! He is extremely knowledgeable and makes microbiology very interesting. Microbiology itself is a hard course but his lectures are amazing and hilarious. He is also very easily accessible outside of class via email.
What can I say about this professor except that out of my 5 years at uOttawa I have NEVER come across a better professor. STRONGLY recommend taking any course he teaches if you actually want a chance to learn the material and not just memorize temporarily!! I 10/10 recommend to anyone that asks
Super nice guy! But his exams are nothing of what he teaches in class so make sure you read the course notes and watch other videos online. He is easy to reach by email but DO NOT ask his about information on tests or quizzes he gets very upset...
Definitley take this prof if you can. He is absolutely awesome and knows what he is teaching. He is super passionate about the material and makes it interesting even for those who don't care. He wrote the notes for us so that we don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on big books!!!! HE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
he clearly cares so much about making sure students learn, and understands how challenging a memorization-heavy class can be for first years, so he makes sure to explain things in a simple and understandable way. replies to emails fast, very organized course material, very kind, very funny, i truly enjoyed this class so much
Amazing prof. Content can be a lot to memorize but he makes it clear what's important to know and explains the concepts well. Exams are completely fair. Lectures are engaging and he's funny. What a sexy guy.
I LOVED this class and this prof.
Great prof, explains the concepts clearly and will answer all of the questions that get asked in class, even if they've been asked already. Super fair tests, no surprises at all. Posts all the lecture slides and notes. He also offers to let you visit his research lab, which is super cool. Definitely recommend, one of the best health sci profs.
HSS1100 is a very memorization-heavy course, but he's very knowledgeable and teaches it in a way that makes it easier to digest. He genuinely wants students to succeed and makes his expectations very clear. Exams and quizzes are very fair if you study SO STUDY!
One of my favorite profs, he truly cares about his students, explains everything very efficiently and basically makes hard topics easy to understand. Funny, and engaging. HIGHLY recommend.
Course content in general is tough but he's particular about your answers on any examination. He really tries to make the class interesting and fun though. In my class we had 2 quizzes, 2 midterms, and an exam however current classes have no quizzes. Best part is he never goes the full 2h 50m! Knowledgable professor and passionate about his work!
Nice guy, tries to keep the students engaged during the long lectures. Drops "subtle" hints about certain subjects to study for the exams. Lots of memorization in the course, but if you study, the questions he asks tend to be easy to recall.
The professor is very knowledgeable and passionate about the course material. While HSS1100 is content-heavy, the prof explains things clearly and gives fair exams. The lecture slides and notes are helpful study tools. I found unstuck study and ChatGPT useful for test prep.
Franco is the goat at teaching HSS1100. Take him at all costs.
He has interesting lectures and seems like he cares. I would recommend him to teach this course as he does a great job explaining everything and breaking down ideas. Just be ready, this course is VERY content-heavy heavy so study well!!
Incredibly interesting class with a great prof! His exams were very fair but you def need to study as there is a lot of content. I recommend using anki (or any type of flashcard) to study as that will be the best way to memorize the concepts. Highly recommend :)
Best prof I've had, just make sure to study every detail of every lecture.
Franco is such a nice prof and is clearly passionate about his work. Midterm and finals can be a little iffy but if you really study you should be fine. Barley studied cause I was focused on other classes and got a C but an A is 100% achievable if you put the work in. He is really funny and nice and asks fun questions and knows your names.
Everyone will warn you about anatomy but personally I found this class to be harder. Study hard for the exams as there are three and they are your whole grade. Make sure you know the content well there is a lot of it. Study early and study often.
For how hard of a class this was, one of the best professors. Tells you what you'll see on the exams and midterms, which are pretty straight forward. I really wish this course was in person, 7-10 online kinda sucks but it is a very interesting course and Franco has many class interactions to try and get to know everyone.
Cares about students learning, however, since lectures were 7-10 at night it was sometimes difficult o get through. Be prepared to study tons as this is a rather content-heavy course. Overall a very kindhearted professor.
Franco is genuinely one of my fave profs ever! He's so knowledgeable and funny! His exams need a lot of memorization and they're challenging, especially the final (he didn't explain as much as he asked), and his lectures aren't recorded so you gotta go. Still, he's fantastic at explaining and gives helpful exam hint! Be sure to focus on listeria!
