HE ROCKS MY SOCKS. Not only is he fun but he makes calc bearable. He really wants you to pass as well as learn something.
has a very good method of teaching. i found it very easy to follow along even with the difficult material. always willing to help. classes went by very fast. highly reccommend
Has an extremely effective teaching method. Teaching is very clear and has a knack for explaining even the hardest concepts. COunted homework as extra credit. He is very fair and laid back. You will learn a lot.
First time in a math class in many years and I wish I had this teacher for all my math classes from here on out. He is very patient and will explain something 4 times in different ways if one doesn't understand a concept. He makes math bearable, highly recommend.
Great teacher. He is wonderful at explaining things and is very helpful and detailed when going over things. He counted homework as extra credit on the test. Tests were not multiple choice but gives partial credit where due. Highly recommended!
Ummmmmmmm, this French dude does not explain well and he overstimates students' tallents. He gives you some stupid writing assignments that U have to do during the semester. I wont take him again as my teacher and if U don't have to, you may not take him either.
Prof Bereaud is really helpful! Even though I really hate math but I still passed with an A. It's all because he's willing to help you by different ways. u'll get extra credits if u do the HW. Writing assignments could be difficult sometimes, but he's always there to help u. Very laid-back. Highly recommended!!
He is such an awsome teacher!! I highly recommend him. He is the math advisor of Miramar, and even gives you credit if you go to the PLACE. He teaches kinda fast, but is very very helpful. He is really anal about people with their cell phones out. he is great with interaction w/ students, you will have to do 2 labs though, but very easy!
Homeworks are extra credit on tests, attendance not mandatory, accepts late H.W and Test if you inform him. BUT YOU MUST READ YOUR TEXT TOO. easy tests VERY EASY
i personally didnt do well in this class, but its my own fault, hes a great teacher willing to help you have to study hard. homewok is extra credit... take home writing assignments that help you apply what you learned...challenging tests but easy if you study well!! i recommend him !!
Made this class enjoyable. The class had structure and time was well spent. Don't worry about writing assignments,it's not that hard and also a great way to apply what you learned; you can do it w/ a partner. HW is extra credit. Of course, you have to work for your grade; this is college.
Wow. Stats sure is different from the Math I have been doing so far in college. Word problems galore. Nice Man Francois connects Stats to real world applications for you. His tests and case studies are a positive challenge. The projects are great and raise letter grades. Lots o' partner stuff, so's connect with the right one for you. Oh, that TI-83
great teacher, love his quiz style. not sure about the writing assignments yet
He's a very good instructor. I took him for 095 and now for 096 (Same book, dont buy another one). When I came back the next semester, I arranged my schedule around his class. The homework is extra credit, and there are 3 writting assignments.
he is the worst teacher you can ever have.....test hard as hell and just weirdo.
If you dread math, and need a good teacher, Francois is perfect for you. Very clear and helpful teacher who goes out of his way for his students. Makes concepts very clear and will take the time to explain everything. Make sure you are there everyday and bring your TI-83...you're going to need it. Definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Stats/Spring - I enjoyed the class and thought he was a good professor. FIND A GOOD PARTNER!!! before every test, there is a 'case study' that you do with a partner and you share the grade. you also do 2 projects with a partner and share those grades so find a partner you get along with and can work with. For guys, find a hot girl to sit next to
He is very helpful and cares if you care. BE SURE TO SIT NEXT TO GOOD PARTNER!!! You end up needing partners for part of the test grades, so just be prepared. I would take him again.
He really is a very nice teacher and caes about you if you care about grades too, he is very willing to help, is always there and would spend extra time with you making sure you understand the material, read the chapters and do the homeworks and you will understand everything. The final projects are really fun to do, work hard, I got an A.
francois made the class fun
awesome teacher
NO CALCULATORS!!!YOU WORK IN PARTNERS ALOT AND TAKE GROUP QUIZES. HIS CLASS IS REALLY EASY, HE EXPLAINS THINGS WELL. I REALLY RECOMMEND HIM!
Highly recommend this teacher!Very helpful and you learn alot in the class. Homework is extra credit, but it's good practice.
OMG! I looked at the other comments before i took this teacher, and i regret every moment of it! this teacher may be nice, but he can't teach! the esiest things become complicated! If you are really trying to learn go to other teacher! do not, I repeat, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
he is cool
Having not been in school for almost 20yrs I was uncertain about my learning math for the 1st time in my life.Prof Bereaud brings the very best in personality, clarity, and teaching that is fun too learn.
He is a great teacher. He is helpful and very approachable. He made things very clear and was willing to work with people who were struggling.
He was SUCH a good teacher! I have a hard time at math, and he really made it clear! If I can understand his teaching style anyone can! Make sure you dont get behind in his class! He's so nice and easy to talk to if you need help!
he is a great teacher
He is a great professor. Helps you learn without being patronizing. Always open to students thoughts and questions. Goes over problems in ways that make them super clear and if there is confusion, he takes extra time until people understand. Very amiable and approachable as well. I definitely recommend him.
I am HORRIBLE at math. This professor explained it to me in a way that was clear. He simplifies everything. The only thing that bothered me was that he would start teaching the next chapter (for ex ch. 6) right before we took the chapter 5 test. This was kinda confusing while taking the test and it annoyed everybody else too.
He's a wonderful teacher. He's very helpful and teaching with clarity. I'm thankful to be in his class.
If this guy could get ahold of his classes and grasp the respect of the student than he'd be a great teacher. For now he stays pretty good. I would say 6.5/10. Laid back dude.
He is a fair professor. His homework assignments are extra 5 points. but he gets a little confusing before the quiz. He will start explaining ch.4 before the ch.3 quiz. He gets us confused. He does drop the lowest grade. He teaches well and gives many examples.
he speaks like a girl (his voice).it will take you forever to get an email back from him. if you have high score in class he will never answer your questions...easy grading
I am extremely intimidated by math, but Bereaud helped me overcome my fear. He is extremely helpful, assigns a fair amount of homework which is used as extra credit, and seems to really care about his students understanding the math. BEST math teacher I've ever had.
It was hard to get any online time with him, especially if your scheulde was busy. Your really had to teach yourself if your in the online class. Its not bad, but I am more worried for the final exam. He has no real study before that.
This guy is pretty cool, helped refresh my mind and is pretty easy to understand. He goes step by step.
took his 8 week online summer class. all online classes are pretty much self taught. He responds to email very quickly and is willing to help you. Just study all exams for the final. The final was easier than the online tests, he also has bonus questions on the final. I will definitely take more of his classes (received an A)
He is very easy to get along with. He responds very quickly, and always helps you if he can. He lots of guidance, but lets the students try to help each other first...his finals are easier than the tests online, but you must study...a great professor and always sensitive to working adults taking the course...I will definitely take another course.
I got an A in this class even thought I've been out of school for 10 yrs. He's a very helpful, compassionate, awesome, and understanding math teacher. Take him. You won't regret it. The final is so much easier than the chapter tests.
The was an online Summer class,it was a lot of self teaching. That said, this guy was always willing to promptly answer emails and schedule online group sessions that went late into the evening if need be. Final was easier than the online tests. This guy is awesome. Wish I was taking 096 from him instead of the guy I have now!
For those who are planning on taking his online classes, be sure to stay on top of your game! There are chapter tests& quizzes due every week. Everything is self-taught and straight out the book, so you really need to be self-disciplined to pass this course. He's very helpful & does online tutoring via BB. Just be sure to study hardy!(40hrs+/week)
I personally don't like having group work on exams. New concepts are poorly explained. Example problems are worked too quickly without explanation of the steps to solve them. Class feels very self taught with little to no gain from attending lectures.
Do not take this professor for calculus! First time he taught the course. He goes a bit fast on the lectures and does not show steps on how to get there. You can get along with this professor if you have a good grade. His lectures were useless and uninteresting, and I always left class early. Exam questions were weird. Homework were extra credits.
When he does problems, sometimes he assumes you know how to do some basic things so he doesn't explain specific steps sometimes. But he is a decent grader. He gives credit for effort, homework points are added to exam scores. Gives extra credit short "make up exams." A lot of group activity/interaction for a math class, I'm not used to that.
He is a very understanding teacher when a situation arise that is out of our control. I was struggling with online so recommend me a better way to like math. I still have trouble learning the subject but now I have an open mind and have learned more than before I took his class. Great teacher!!!
He's a very good professor. You must do the homework to understand the material. His tests are a little challenging, but fair. His test measures how well you know the material. If you work really hard on the homework then you will get an A on the test. The homework takes a little time, but he answers questions you have trouble on.
The class was very simple. A test on each chapter and a cumulative final. Two projects that are easy points and bonus points on exams for doing homework. If you are good at calculus it is an easy class.
By far the most helpful and best teacher I ever took in my college career for mathematics. All my other math classes I completed in college, left me feeling unconfident about math, except memorizing the formulas. After this class, I am pretty confident in Calculus. His way of teaching is awesome!!!
I HATE math. Hello, math38.. But Francois is a very good teacher. Wants you to pass and he makes it easy to learn, got an A on every test. Uses MYMATHLAB which isn't cheap but is SO worth it when it comes to homework and quizzes because online HW and quizzes are seriously amazing. Math seems easy for me now.. Highly recommended
Professor Bereaud is an amazing educador, very inteligente and good communicator. Because I was very bad at Math, I was afraid of this class, but Professor Bereaud made Math a interesting course. Be serious about this class and you wil be fine! I'm very happy to experience such a good Math professor at San Diego Miramar College!
Took his online math 46 and 96 class. Both were 8 weeks. He seems like a nice guy. He is also very willing to help you with any questions you have and will see you in person if you need more attention. Also, he provided web conferencing for the midterm and final if you needed it.
Very good teacher pretty much you have to learn on your own is obvious is an online class. But if you have any concerns he is very available to meet with you I took the 8 week course and it is tough it goes very fast 1 test per week, if you give it the time it needs maybe 15 hours per week at least (for the 8 week course) you will pass with A or B
i took the 8 week session for 46 and 96, u r ur own teacher, is an online class, 1 test per week. You have to put at least 20 hours a week if you want an A, anything less will be b or a c, FInal was hard but if you give the time you can pass with a good grade. He is always available to review. He does final review as well.
I have always been very bad at math, and Professor Bereaud made me enjoy it! He's very good at teaching math, and is more than willing to help you after class or during his office hours. He is very understanding and flexible. One of the best teachers I've had at Miramar. If you struggle with math, definitely take him. I recommend him 100%!
30% of you grade depends on your partner, which is pretty bad. He is an ok teacher when he teaches, but he takes every opportunity to not teach during lectures, but instead have you do problems from the book. That is fine, outside of class, but entire classes should not be devoted to you sitting there doing problems.
Francois' Math096 course was relatively easy for me and i suck at math. He teaches one chapter at a time unit by unit in class and then gives a test on it. Tests have 2 parts: a partner part and an individual. Homework is assigned but is only counted as extra credit on your test with a max of 5 points so it is optional but i would recommend it.
Francios was a very nice professor as he respected each of his students and their talents. He gave good lectures, but sometimes got monotone after a while. Homework was easy throughout the semester and became extra credit in the last weeks. Tests aren't long, twenty questions at most. Funny guy and fun to talk to. :) Take him!
Quite honestly he is one of the best professors I've had and the best math professor I've had by far! He makes his lectures seem to fly by and the way he lectures just clicks. His material makes sense, if you think you'll be struggling in the math department, take this class he makes it a piece of cake as long as you pay attention and do homework.
He is very nice and approachable. If you ever need help he encourages you to attend office hours. If you can't make it to his office hours, don't hesitate to ask questions in class. He will clarify the material. He really care about the subject. I thought I would hate this class, I ended up loving it! Would take again. Bonus: the textbook is free!
He's really nice and caring about his students. Chill teacher and will stop to help you if you do not get something. He's very helpful, even during his office hours. There are 2 big projects that you have to do in partner or group. He does test where a "case study" with other students counts as 25% of the test, pretty easy.
While he's a nice guy and wants everyone to succeed, his teaching method is to work as a class to understand a concept. Typically I want to be taught by the teacher, not to spend 5 awkward minutes "guessing" how to work a problem. At least he offers many extra credit points but I felt like I didn't learn much.
Easy grader! Homework is extra credit, tests are 2 parts first part with partner and second individual.
I've had him for 2 semesters and he's awesome. Just do all your homework and show him your serious about the class. Tests are half in group form, the other half individual. Really helpful when you need clarification or need to see him outside of class.
This professor was really hard do not take him he doesn't drop anything no tests no h.w he didn't let us use calculators on most of the tests. He was so unapproachable. I made a mistake by taking him he expect u to be a pro in calc and he will take every opportunity not to teach he is soooo lazy. I would never recommend him to anyone!
Prof Bereaud seemed somewhat disinterested in the material he taught, although it was taught well. Tests were difficult, Hw was easy. I say 3 and 3 as the class was average. Received a B with moderate study.
Such an awesome Professor! He's very patient with his students and is always willing to repeat a topic if students are struggling. He's always very happy to be in class even when he's sick! He genuinely wants his students to understand the material and succeed. I've had him twice now, for two different math courses; would definitely recommend him!
Good professor! You have to do your best, you can't just sit back and hope an 'A+' is just going to fall in your lap. The grading of tests is confusing, but if you work hard at all you have to do in this class, you will pass.
Seriously the best math instructor I've ever had. I went into his class a D math student at best and came out with an actual understanding of the content. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he's very kind and always willing to help. Tons of extra credit opportunities. The type of professor you can tell really cares about his students.
Bereaud teaches by working examples on the board, which is good, but spends 10 minutes doing the problem, and then another extra 10 minutes trying to see if his answer was correct... waste of class time. His teaching is a little disorganized, but he tries to make sure people understand. He tends to be lazy in his teaching and skip lots of steps.
I am really shack that he have 4 stars, he deserves no stars. I learn noting from him, he take 10 min doing a easy question and after 3 min thinking about answer then the answer were always wrong, then he jump all over the book and he is slow as hell. The class look easy to take and if you take just study by yourself, you got this.
This professor takes forever to explain something. His teaching is very slow and tedious. You have to get ready to read a lot from the pdf or book. He also has 1 or 2 projects to do. He can't teach calc 2 or stats properly. He is also a slightly harder grader. His examples always have the wrong answers... Take vargo if u can
SUCH AN AMAZING PROFESSOR. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS.
Best Calc Professor in the universe.
BEST professor, i really recommend to all if you want A+.
OMGGGGG THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. WHEN I SAY THE BEST, IT MEANS THE BESTTTTTTTTTT
Prof Bereau is one of the few profs to teach DE, and he is a solid choice for it. He is approachable, friendly, and easy to ask questions to. He explains concepts very well and sincerely wants students to succeed. He gives lots of little take home quizzes and a few exams; not hw though. He has partner exams parts and opportunities for extra credit
Honestly one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He's really laid back and cares a lot about his students. He checks in on you to let you know how you're doing. He makes math a lot less stressful, especially for someone like me who isn't a big fan of it. His lectures always make sense to me. Definitely take math with him if you get the chance.
He is my black.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!!!NEVER, Ever take him. His test is so hard and he cant teach Calc II. He is not fair in grading and not generous in partial credit.
Avoid this teacher. I was recommended to him by my previous teacher, and I thought because he was the math director, that he would be super good. I was told this class would be so easy I'd fall asleep. But it's not. He explains things so quickly you try to catch up with notes. Grades tests hard and nitpicks projects/classwork and takes away points.
From what I've heard about the 3 teachers that teach Calc II, Bereaud is definitely the top one in terms of quality & grading. Tests are 50% group (Pretty much the whole class together) and 50% individual. Homework/textbook is optional, and a +5 point boost to your test grade each unit.
You can tell his heart isn't it anymore. He knows his stuff but just has no interest in teaching it. Was always late for class and then there were times when he couldn't figure out the answers. He'll give you extra credit to get a good grade but that's only because he's trying to compensate for his lack of lecture motivation.
Is a nice/friendly professor but doesn't really explain the steps to what he's doing. Not very specific or thorough in lectures. Sometimes struggled on his own lecture problems. Can give vague answers to questions, and test questions can be on stuff we barely did or went over, even stuff that wasn't in the homework assigned.
He seemed approachable and nice at first but when I got into the class, he was really bad at explaining things and he was way too fast. Please AVOID this professor if you're a slow learner and need a step by step directions on problems. He saw me struggling once and just walked past by me. Very TOUGH GRADER. Half of the class were struggling. :(
This guy is the definition of lazy. He doesn't teach the class. The students teach the class. So he makes groups and each group has to teach a section. And this goes throughout the whole semester.
He's a very laid back teacher. You really have to pay attention to the lectures to understand the tests. We were a class of 14 so we all felt closer to him. He is always willing to help if you ask for it. I just personally don't like stats so I never paid attention but he really is a nice teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR EVER!! He is very bad at teaching, very hard exams, unsolvable partner quizzes. No homework, al lot of quizzes, writing project which is unsolvable as well. DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM AT ALL!!!!
Professor Bereaud is a very good teacher! He knows what he is doing but can sometimes get lost in his own work. He is VERY NICE. Don't hesitate to ask any questions. He does have a presentation, but it is super easy and everyone got an A on it. However, it is lecture and test heavy. He also gives a lot of extra credit :)
He'll spend the majority of his lectures injecting his personal beliefs and political opinions rather than teaching. Felt more like a political science class rather than a math class. Better off taking Math 119 class with a math professor that prioritizes in teaching math rather than his opinions.
This professor does not assign any homework assignments and his exams are difficult. Do not take this professor unless you have a good study method to prepare for his exams.
This professor gives out difficult exams that are not fully covered from his lectures. He also did not assigned homework where it enables me to show what I have learned. He barely has any assignments besides his exams, a final, and a presentation you must do in front of the class. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN'T DO ALL OPTIONAL HOMEWORK
Professor Bereaud is a great professor who explains concepts simply and is fairly lenient on assignments. Statistics in general is one of those subjects that is very conceptual and can be difficult to grasp, but he was able to organize the course in a way that makes comprehension easy.
Laid back professor, he's super kind and understanding. Also his class is free which means no textbooks need to be bought. HW is optional but you will not pass if you don't do it. Come to class prepared with a general idea of what's going to be covered and be prepared. Tests were doable if you studied there was usually 1 difficult problem.
Professor Bereaud is one of the best professors I have had throughout my academic career. He is caring, diligent, and works hard to make sure students understand and are able to apply the material. He grades on tests and projects, so there isn't much work outside of class, so it is on the student to play a part in their learning. Would take again!
Would not recommend! He grades very harshly and assigns things and puts things on the test that were not covered in class. There is no assigned homework to help boost your grade or to help you practice which makes the class all the more difficult. He expects you to know things and be able to do things that were not taught in class.
Had us do epsilon-delta proofs the second week of class for "fun." For tests there is a partner and no partner half, so basically if ur struggling and have a bad partner, ur cooked. Doesn't excuse the fact that u should've studied, but I did find it a bit odd that some ppl could poentially pass just bc they had a good partner. Funny prof though.
This class is taught very differently from what I am used to. There are no weekly assignments, you just have to make sure you learn the lessons by reading the textbook and working through the problems given. I was not prepared for the hassle of having to teach myself and do some extra studying. The main thing being graded were the tests.
He is a great teacher and if you put in the work just like any advanced math class you will do well. But trust me I put in the math lab hours. He replaces your lowest test score with an assignment you do in class that is not hard, and if you need help with it you can go to his office hours or tutors in the math lab. He wants his students to do well
Pretty good teacher/lecturer. We got to touch every topic at least once but the class is extremely fast paced. 5 or 6 exams in the semester, exams making up ~90% of your grade. HW is suggested but not required. Some exams were more difficult than the HW, and prof doesn't give much feedback on what you did wrong. Respectable person overall though.
He is very friendly and does a decent job lecturing. The first unit was very confusing but the class as a whole seemed to improve after that. He offers a bit of extra credit and will replace the lowest test score, so overall very reasonable. Calc 2 can be difficult, but it is possible to do well in the class as long as you put in the effort.
Francois is a good teacher! But, I personally found his class really difficult. He does not assigned weekly homework or put notes that explains the math. We often had to rely on our textbook. I find textbooks so long and concluded to learn from. You mainly get graded by your test scores. Take him if you don't need those things to learn! :)
I took 119statistics and he was accessible outside class/office hours to explain material, along w teacher assistant from in-class. I thought I was going to fail, but going to math lab and getting individual help I was encouraged to excel and ended up with a B after group projects; even though i'm a bad test taker, I did well. would take again
Very nice and cool guy. Cares a lot about his students and their learning. I thought the tests were fair and easy, especially if you do the homework and take-home quizzes. I barely studied for the final and got an a high B on it, but many get full scores. Definitely one of my favorite math teachers of all time.
