you learn more from a wall. horrible professor. rarely what is lectured is on the exam. doesn't answer questions and is not helpful. be prepared to fail unless he likes you
Very good accounting one teacher. He is a little hard, but you will get out of his class with knowledge.
total ****
Horrible teacher, stay awayyyyyy. He will literally insult you in front of the class if you do not understand.
The worst teacher in the world. Who hired him must have been on drugs. I can't believe Montclair continues to employee this terrible, miserable person. He doesn't come even remotely close to being called a teacher.

A big fat jerk0ff. Literally brought some students to tears from his vicious comments. A miserable **** who takes it out on students. I hope he drops dead of a heart attack.
DON'T NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR TAXES AT ALL COST! Lectures don't pertain to the exam. Exams are very very difficult. Poor professor over 80% of the class failed. If you take taxes, be sure to take Lipari.
he so full of himself that he thinks his **** don't stink
if you teach yourself everything your good....he knows what hes talking about but doesnt really help.

A miserable excuse for a teacher. He insults his students constantly and when you don't understand somthing and ask for help he will flat out tell you to figure it out yourself. If you take this professor be prepared to teach yourself!
Very impressive professor.
Bitter man who must hate his life. Apparently he has a bad home life and often complains of his wife. Refuses to help students. Tries to intimidate all students, but he if he was so smart he would not be working at MSU. Dr. Douma does his job better than he does. He should be fired already!
I do not know how this man became the chairman of the Accounting department. He has no respect for other departments besides Accounting, he does not even have pride for MSU.To sum up class time:He complains 50% of the time(insert any topic here),covers a chapter in 5 minutes, then he bashes students.

do not take him for taxation...basically teach yourself if u take him...tests are way too hard..grade is based on 3 tests during the semester

Great Prof. Yeah he complains some what, but a lot of people don't realize what he has been through. Lost either one or both his sons in 9/11, I don't know about you, but something that tragic would make me bitter too

Succinct, effective teaching style. Lectures are well planned and if you take good notes and study, you will do well. Taxation is a tough discipline and the course must be structured. Worked hard and earned my "A."
fun to listen to but seemed very unorganized when it came to lecturing..would jump around alot and move very quickly. tax is def a hard subject so its not all his fault. 3 MC tests, no written h/w, attendance taken.
The intimidator! He is mean to students but he does it just so we can get taxes through our heads ha! Teaches very good the subject and tests are actually real problems of conceptuality and good practice! Don't forget to participate in the VITA program for excellent hands-on experience. Take him if you want to learn and be in a loud classroom M.S.
he scares me .... that's all i have to say ..
The worst professor you could ever take. If you would like to come to class and get yelled at and go home and teach yourself the material than take him but be ware: he spits if you sit in the front row. If you want to really learn take anyone else.
Good but hard professor; explains everything clearly by giving real life examples. The subject is hard, though - a lot of rules to remember so be prepared to study a lot. Seems harsh in the beginning but later on curves a lot (even by 9 point). Test are very detailed so you must really know taxes. Great professor if you want to be an accountant.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. He does not know how to teach and then he gives 100 question exams that he didn't even make up himself. Take someone else if you want an A. Take him if you want to work hard and do all of his extra credit and see that in the end he didn't even count it. If you take him you are risking possibly repeating the course.
Great professor if you want to be an accountant. Gives a lot of real life examples which help you understand the material, which is difficult. Tests are detailed so you have to study a lot. All other majors except accounting, avoid, or be prepared to work your ass off.
THINKS HE SOME BIG SHOT ITALIAN...........FUNNY, LOUD, AND SORTA COOL. BUT VERY HARD AND EXPECT TO FILL OUT A 1040, I MEAN ALL OF IT
I had this prof several years ago. I thought he was a gret prof. I have since graduated and moved to the west coast. I will say he was a great professor...and SMOKING hot! I went on to get a great job with a public accounting firm and think it was classes like his that prepared me for "real world accounting". Now...I wonder if he is single :)
he is hard
I had in Mr. A in 1981. He made fun of students back then, humilated them, brought students to tears. Has not changed his ways in almost 30 years. I had him for Int Accounting II and got a D, even tho I worked my ass off. I got an "A" in advanced accounting, then had to retake his class with another prof and got an A.
He is a great teacher. I ask him questions and he always answers them, making everything clear to me. I think he is the best ACCT prof. i have had so far. He has really taught me a lot about tax. The test is Fair. The classes are fun, time goes by real fast in his class. Take him if you like Acct and Tax. He is the way to go!
he is a good guy, lost his son in 9/11. really cares about students that care. most memorable prof at montclair. he is great. go yankees
Seems like he would blow up if you act up but that never happened in my class. Teaches well, knows his stuff, and fair tests. Looks to be in good shape too. When I had him he wasn't bad like the ratings here would make him seen.
Prof. Aquilino is a good professor. However his exams are really tough!!! I know people who studied their behinds off and they still flunked his exams. He does give curves. We just took our second exam for the semester and I looked around the room and mostly everyone failed!!! Take him if you actually plan on STUDYING HARD & READING!!
He is an excellent professor as long as the classes doesnt annoy him. Once they do (like the class doesnt do good on the test bc he put in more calculations than could be managed in an hour) he punishes to the max in a very crude manner. At that point you might as well devote the rest of your semester to studying for him bc IT WILL BE MEGA HARD!
HE IS EXTREMELY HARD!!!!!!!! I TOOK HIM LAST SEMESTER & FAILED THE COURSE. I'M SURE I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO FAILED THE COURSE, SINCE HALF THE CLASS WAS FAILING. PLEASE AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!! UNLESS OF COURSE, YOU'RE A NERD OR WANT A F!
THE WORST EVER!!! HATE HIM THE TEST ARE SOOOO HARD!!!! GETS ANNOYED IF YOU ASK THIS WEIRDO A QUESTION. FAILED THIS CLASS LAST SEMESTER AND WASNT HAPPY AT ALL. IF YOU DONT WANT TO FAIL THIS CLASS AND LOWER YOUR GPA PLEASE DONT TAKE HIM IT'S NOT WORTH IT THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER AT MSU
He is a good guy. Lost his son in 9/11. It was not easy on him. He is a really good guy.
HONESTLY, THE GUY KNOWS HIS STUFF BUT DOESN'T HAVE A PASSION FOR TEACHING/HELPING. I DIDN'T FAIL HIS CLASS BUT I WASN'T HAPPY WITH MY GRADE EITHER. COURSE+THIS PROF=DISASTER.
Look, Prof. Aquillino class isn't an easy one, but if you work hard you will do well. I had him in 2000/2001 and the guy actually gives a damn. I had some of these so-called easy teachers in other classes who weren't motivated to teach and I didn't do as well as I did in Aquilino's class. When all is said and done, you learn a lot.
I never had Prof. Aquilino for any classes and I'm very thankful for that. However, he is the Chairman of the Accounting Department and when I wanted to get signed into a closed class he refused me twice. One section was being offered for the Fall! He does not like to help his students. He should be replaced!
Avoid This GUY in every Possible way. I'm serious.
he suckss
GREAT GUY, TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!! AVOID EVERY COMMENTS IN BELOW. YOU WORK HARD FOR YOUR GRADE.
Class covers a tremendous amount of material which you MUST memorize. 3 exams which were difficult.Would have liked more exams with less info to memorize.does not give credit for hmwrk. Awesome prof! Knows his material & gives real life examples. Not very approachable and does not stay for exams. Does not like questions to be asked, just listen.
TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR CAREER. IF YOU ARE JUST LOOKING TO GET BY WITH AN EASY A HE IS NOT FOR YOU. THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!!
TRUE MOBSTER, HAHAH LOVE THIS GUY. TAKE HIM ASAP!!!!
He is a really great and informative teacher. His tests aren't the easiest but you will learn a lot in his class. If I could, I would take this professor for every accounting class. He also puts things into perspective for how it's going to be in the real world.
Knowledgable professor but difficult. No quiz and HW isn't graded. Three exams which cover a lot of material and are difficult. Not an easy subject to learn and he doesn't prepare you well for the exams. If possible take another professor, they will help you understand the material and prepare you better. Good luckl
Touch teacher - you MUST STUDY AHEAD OF TIME. If you wait until exam time you will fail. Three exams equal weight. Study Study Study - and you will do well. If you can't dedicate the time - you will fail.
He is the best professor in MSU! You get what you give in this class. He is willing to help & prepares you for every exam! It is not an easy course, but no course is! It is as easy as you make it for yourself! Know your stuff and you will get an A! Participate in his class! He makes the material fun & relates it to real life!
Listen to his lectures and start studying a little every week before the exam. If you do the work you will get an A. If you have an interest in tax, his lectures are great. He relates a lot of real life experiences to the material. Do your homework and review it for exams. You get what you put into this class.
He's a good teacher, lectures are actually fun to listen too, has a lot of experience in his field and gives great real life examples. But he doesn't prepare us well for exams at all, there insanely hard even if you study a lot. Does not give much of a curve either, overall good teacher but exams are next to impossible. Try to take someone else
Professor Aquilino has really good lectures. He's smart and brings real world examples and experience to the classroom. His exams are really difficult tho, you have to work yourself just to do well. A lot of people fail because you have to read the chapters and understand the work in order to do well.
Mr. Aquilino is a great professor, but his exams are very difficult. He does not prepare you for these exams in the class, and expects you to teach yourself in order to pass. What you will learn from this class is how the tax world truly works. Three exams all MC. He does not expect you to know phase outs or any math calculated by a computer.
You might as well buy the textbook and read it on your own. Study it like the it's life or death. He has a lot of personal stories about his time in the accounting business. However, that does not mean he is a good teacher. He goes over homework all class, but does not ask any questions or include us in the discussions. I recommend someone else.
Frank is a terrible teacher and I had to withdraw from his class because he does not prepare you in the slightest for his exams. I studied for the first exam and got an F even after the curve and the class average was a 55.9. The subject is hard and that is not his fault but he makes it so there is no wiggle room to mess up. 3 tests worth 30% each
By far the worst experience I've ever had with a professor. Professor Aquilino is by far one of non caring professors to his students. I do not understand why MSU continues to hire people who do not care bout students and teaching. This guy was by far horrible. DO NOT TAKE.
DONT TAKE, he has a bad attitude, speaks too fast, all over the place, doesn't care if you fail or not, won't review exams/quizzes. No study guides given. DO NOT TAKE! Only in class for a week and dropped it. Each chapter in book is like 40+ pg, expects to read/take note/understand everything all in 2-3 day period.
Professor talks way to fast and expect you to know and read the chapter in 2-4 days then goes over problems way to fast and expect you to get everything in said no study guides or reviews if you want to pass you better start studying min 2 weeks ahead or you will fail has 3 exams 30 percent and makes you attend meetings and also write a paper
Kind man but he does his students a disservice by taking an already difficult subject and making it so that there's no room for mistakes. 3 tests that are 30% and a paper. Also you have to read the book many times because he doesn't teach accounting he goes over examples in class.
DO NOT TAKE! he does not care about his students and is so disrespectful !! I've never had such a bad experience in my life!
Professor Franklin Aquilino is by far the worst educator, not professor, I have had in my 20 years of existence. In this specific course you must attend a mandatory 5 meetings outside of class hours, miss one you fail the course. He doesn't teach accounting, he complicates it. The exams are taken half heartedly because we already expect the worst.
I'm reading all these reviews and people just don't want to do the work! Accounting is very difficult so don't expect to just show up and get an A, you need to study hard to get a good grade in his class. Prof. Aquilino goes over problems in class very specifically, answers questions, and tells you what kind of problems are going to be on the test.
Emotionally biased people on this. The effort you put in is the grade you get. Had me in the first half. Adjusting to the pace of the class and understanding the severity of it will Help you do good. Doing problems ahead of class and understanding the language of accounting will help you make it. 3 exams, a paper, business events attend all F/C
I'd recommend to not take this professor because of how things work in his class. He talks about accounting passionately but he can't explain it enough to help his students understand whats going on. Only grades on 3 exams worth 90%, 1 paper worth 5%, and activities worth another 5%. Very rude at some points and just overall did not enjoy his class
This professor has a god complex. You try to explain something that he messes up on when grading a test and he acts like that would be the biggest disservice to him and refuses to even listen to us. He doesn’t lecture, just skims over a chapter for 10-15 minutes then does the problems with little explanation of what is being done.
He's not as bad as many say he is, he's truly really knowledgeable about accounting, and he will answer any question in or after class, really fair when grading, as long as you put the effort, it's not an easy A but he's not bad, he's really funny when he wants to be and very serious when needed.
the worse staff ever at this university. Expects students to be genius in this major. He needs to improve to today teaching society
needs to be removed from this institution. He is someone that will make you give up school
I beg you, do NOT take this course. Prior to enrolling into this class, I have NEVER failed a class. I participate, ask for clarification, go to tutoring, etc. and still failed miserably. This is a class that works best for students that have prior knowledge in Accounting and can keep up with his teaching style.
we have multiple tests and about 3-4 exams he doesn't give any homework so if you fail them you will fail the class. You are not allowed to go to the bathroom during the lecture. He also doesn't teach, he doesn't take the time to do so. He just read from the textbook and go over the exercise, and he assumes we already know what he is teaching.
classwork and homework do not reflect on the tests and quizzes. does not teach, just reads off the textbook.
If you pay attention in class you will do fine. It does suck that your grade is comprised of 3 exams and a paper however he does curve. He isn't the friendliest professor but he is very knowledgeable in his profession. I took him for 201 and chose to retake him. Although his exams are challenging I believe I learned a lot from professor Aquilino.
It was clear that he is very passionate and educated and he tries to get students to participate in class. He is funny at times and really tries to motivate his students. However, he doesn't let you use the restroom in class and doesn't allow exam retakes. Pay attention in class and take notes and you will probably do well.
he has tenure so he doesn't care. he openly disrespects students. do not ask him any questions as he hates repeating vital information to his students. he doesn't teach, just reads off of the textbook.
very rude. exams are very hard even if you study for them. do not take him if you want to pass.
pretty straight forward, just have to pay attention and show up to every class. exams that had open ended problems were the easiest because he tells you what they will be, its up to you to study and make sure you know it. The multiple choice ones were confusing. he curves and gives bonus points when needed. students that complain don't study
Such an amazing professor, if you're willing to work and understand accounting Professor Aquilino is perfect. Gives many chances to learn to bring your grade up. Really helps you understand the material. Though students complain because they want an easy grade and not one they earn.
So far almost half way through the course I have learned a lot more in taxes and Professor Aquilino has done a great job at going over the material and using examples in the outside world to understand the topic. The course is challenging and requires lots of study, but so far I am enjoying his class. I feel others should take this class as well.
Pros: Showed expertise in the subject and taught lessons fluently. Assigned no homework. Test/quizzes followed study material. Cons: Communicated very poorly with students, and did not provide extra help. Made no attempts to connect with students and did not bring enthusiasm into the classroom.
Tests are difficult and the professor is rude.
I was expecting the devil himself from other reviews about him--I was disappointed. Go to class, take notes and study, there's no way you won't pass if you do all three. No phones in class. His exams can be hard at times: accounting is hard. Don't take things personally, he can be standoffish. Offers extra credit and curves exams. Would take again
He is a really great teacher, very funny, he is good at explaining the course material and gives some amount of extra credit opportunities in addition to very generous curves on tests.
Can be a fast talker but doesn't deserve the negative reviews. All you need to do for his class is write down which section (ex: ch14-2) he's talking about, read the section at home, and do the 5 questions from the textbook. Exam is extremely straightforward. He will go over the material and tell you exactly what'll be on it. Curves a lot too.
Terrible Professor. He doesnt help when you are confused and gets annoyed when you ask questions. He makes you feel dumb for not being an accounting expert, meanwhile hes teaching an intro class. Reads straight from textbook and tests dont match material.
I was scared to take him based on some of the other reviews, but I'm so glad I did! He gives examples from his own experiences working in tax, which makes understanding the material even better! Just follow along with ur textbook in front of you, and write what page and section he is talking about, and you will be fine!
The good reviews are not trustworthy. He makes very direct, rude comments towards students out of nowhere. The exams are hard.
very difficult. will literally only pass if you have prior knowledge of accounting.
do the homework questions over and over, you'll be fine.
Take him. He will make you consider going into tax. Seems intimidating but is passionate about students learning. Tells you what will be on the test. Doesn't BS. Listen to the other reviews they tell you everything you need to know. Would definitely take another tax class with him again.
Professor Aquilino can be tough, but engaging with his teaching style pays off. The exams are challenging, but he offers extra credit and generous curves. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for practice and prep.
Aquilino is an okay professor. He gets a bad reputation because he is very mean and his class is boring but he's not a bad teacher. Exams are difficult but he gives partial credit and curves a lot. As long as you make sure you understand the homework questions you should do fine on his exams.
