best teacher ive ever had my whole life. take home mid terms/finals light on homework. no other way to describe this guy but GREAT GREAT teacher. you have to take his class to see what i mean.
Mr. Araujo is kind, warm, FUNNY, and brilliant. This is one wise old man, fluent in many languages, well read, well traveled, plays the bagpipes, teaches across the science and humanity spectrum, and has lived a lot in his life! His stories are so fun to listen to and you'll learn a lot about Anthro
Funny guy. Kinda cheesy. Always helpful. If you are a "normal" student. You should do fine. Only slackers mess up in this class.
Mr. Araujo is the best teacher ever!!!
COOLEST TEACHER EVER! Didnt demand a lot from students other than they pay attention, and its not hard because hes very captivating and interesting. Awesome person.... has been around the world and speaks about 10 different languages. A joy!
there is no way you can possibly get any grade lower than a C in his class. very interesting guy
Frank is a great story teller. Take excellent notes. no need to purchase the book. easy easy class. If you want an easy A with zero effort or usage of your brain this is the class for you.
Easy class, I slept the whole time and got an A.
Okay this professor is very full of himself. Please save yourself by not taking him. I dreaded going to his class. Thanks I did not learn a thing. Thanks for the crummy B, Frank!
Boring class. His jokes weren't funny. The class wasn't that hard, but I ended up with a B; however, I was expecting an A. I agree with the comment below. I got a crummy B too and learn nothing!!! He doesn't have a good teaching style.
Very nice guy, and I look forward to his class. His lectures are light-hearted and personally, I find them interesting... but I think a lot of the other students don't. I see a lot of sleepy faces. And unfortunately, I don't think he explains things very clearly... but thankfully, you can use your notes on all tests! So take good ones!
Good ol' Frank...self-centered, boring, obnoxious. He prefers non-English speaking students, so he can show off how many languages he can speak...He should work in P/R for the "European Market," since you'll hear that story just about EVERY class! Take a different instructor, or die of boredom!
I did not like this teacher at all. There was no control over the class - people coming in late, taking phone calls, and talking in groups during lecture. His lectures weren't clear, and he doesn't teach out of the book that much. He knows a lot of foreign languages, and it seems he would prefer to speak Russian in class rather than english.
While it may not be the most exciting class everything is presented in a straight forward manner. During the class his teaching may seem a little confusing but it comes full circle by the end of the semster.
Eventhough I got an A in his class he was very "to the book" boring. Also one thing that I reallllly did not like about him was that it was usually "his way" for everything and he was always right and because you were the student you were wrong. I really wouldn't recommend this teacher unless you wanna fall asleep in class. He was fairly easy though
Total nonsensical babble is taught in this class. This class was about as exciting as cleaning your toaster oven on a Saturday night. Knowing what I know now, I'd have looked for another class to fulfill the stupid 'humanities' requirement for the AS Degree. Boring!
Teaching style is a bit unconventional. Unstructured lectures and open-note exams. Only complaint is it's hard for the motivated student to track grade progress throughout the semester. In retrospect, worry about learning and he'll take care of your grade. Overall, very knowledgeable, friendly man with many layers to peel. Recommended.
Prof. Araujo is very knowledgable and very interesting to listen to. You have to pay attention and take notes in order to pass his class. If you do, there is no reason why you should not earn an A. He is also a very nice teacher. I recommend his class.
Professor Araujo is very interesting to listen to, and he explains his lecture material very clearly. Stories and anecdotes help lend depth to the lecture material. Taking clear notes is a must — his exams are very explanation-heavy, but he allows open notes on them. He's a nice guy to boot, who genuinely cares about helping students learn.
Professor Araujo is a good teacher--very knowledgable about the subject. At times lectures can be boring, but if you do the work and attend class you shouldn't have a problem passing the class. Open notes and book tests!!
Kind of off topic lectures. Take home mid-terms. Interesting guy.
An extremely smart man! He definitely knows his stuff even though lectures can be kind of boring at times. As long as you attend class, do the homework, and take notes in class there shouldn't be reason why you wouldn't pass his class.
Incredibly easy assignments. Take home midterms. Final is open note/old tests.
Lectures are very unfocused and therefore not really helpful.
Interesting guy... Great stories... Sometimes left scratching my head wondering what the hell I learned, if anything! I enjoyed the class, but I am not sure how much I truly learned about cultural anthro. He's not for everyone, but I liked him!
Very nice teacher.. All critiques, midterms are take-home. final was in class but in groups. Who did all the work got an A. Take this teacher if you want a good grade.
EXTREMLY EASY....easy tests..dont even have to go to class..just come for the tests..allows to take test home..no homework..use notes on test..funny..likes to get off topic a lot..doesnt follow the notes but doesn't matter....only the students in the front answer questions and talk to him.if you sit in the back, do what u want if u sit in the back.
Very interesting, especially how he taught from his own experiences AND those of the class! He challenged us to stand up for our opinions and gave respect where earned. Not a "hard-fact" teaching style, but more of an "understanding and relating" style. I loved it.
He was really funny, and nice. At first I was sort of scared, and very intimidated. But after a while I loved it. I actually changed my major to Anthropology because of him.
I really appreciated taking his class. I got to taKE MY MID TERMS HOME AND WE DID OUR FINALS IN GROUPS..
Very interesting professor; he really makes you think. Coming to class is definitely not mandatory since he does all assignments and tests on the D2L website. Not much work, only 4 exams and two short papers. Exams aren't exactly easy, but overall not too hard. He's a funny guy. Would recommend.
He was a great man to listen to, but his teaching skills were slightly confusing. I left class remembering more about his jokes and life stories than the topic.
INTERESTING GUY.CLASS IS UBER-CONFUSING.ONLY BECAUSE OF HIS TEACHING STYLE. HE RAMBLES ON -NEVER ON TOPIC- YOU LEAVE CLASS NO BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE YOU GOT THERE.TESTS ARE COMPLETELY RANDOM LIKE HIS LECTURES. IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN-NOT SURE IT WAS EASY, BUT IT WASN'T TOO HARD EITHER.IF YOU LIKE THINGS ORDERLY+"ON TRACK" TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
I just finished Dr. Araujo's ANTH300 class this summer. If you need this class for your major he's not the prof to take, but if you just need a science requirement he's your guy. Two tests and 1 final all online. Never touched the book. Didn't take attendance. Told lots of stories (I remember those more). Didn't learn anything but I still got a B+!
Dr. Araujo has years of field experience so he knows his stuff. Very easy grader - honestly I think I remember all of his stories more so than anything I actually "learned" in the class. All homework/tests are online and he only takes attendance the first week of class. Don't bother with the book it's a waste of money since he never uses it.
I LOVED HIM! ONE THING I CAN SAY IS HE IS WILLING TO HELP YOU IF YOU NEED IT. JUST ASK! REALLY DIDNT LEARN TOO MUCH ABOUT ANTHRO...LOL BUT HEY ITS NOT MY MAJOR AND I DID GET THE KEY POINTS DOWN. I RECOMMEND HIM, HES GREAT. THE SEMESTERS ALL MOST OVER AND I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS!
I love this man! He's very knowledgeable on the subject and willing to go the extra mile to help out his students. All assignments and tests are online, and pretty easy to follow. I highly recommend his classes. I took him for both Physical and Cultural Anthro. You have to do every assignment, but there are only three and a short easy paper.
Prof A does know his stuff. It's a fun class, and you do learn whether you want to or not. He is fair, and gave me that push when I told him that I haden't been in school for quite some time. Very encouraging and good stories.
I had him for cultural anthro which I didn't like; not his fault. He's one of the best teachers at ARC and is committed to helping his students succeed and understand the material. I still email him back and forth.
In the beginning I was a little stressed bc I did not understand Dr Araujo's teaching style too well & I took mass notes. After 4-5 classes, I started understanding it better and it became more fun to me. He is a little scattered but Dr. Araujo makes the class fun with his stories and is fair in his approach. Take notes and you will do fine!
I was seriously going to drop this class but before dropping it, i just took the first midterm for the hell of it. and i found out that it was probably the easiest test i have ever took! decided to stay b/c he was funny and fun! very knowledgeable prof. he definitely knows his stuff!! trust me!
EASY!! I'm going to miss him!!
He is really good, has the anthroplology knowldge, he knows everything, just ask. 8 weeks is short, but it was ok, just take the notes, he is posting it on line, 75%is form the notes, 25%from the book, you have to write essays, about 3-4 short2,3 pg.he is awsome. i'll miss him.
very good professor, knows everything just ask, take notes 75%is form notes, 25%is form the book, you have to write 3-4 essays. short 2,3 pages. easy class.
the first 2 weeks of class were really confusing but you get used to it! test are really easy and he curves! Funny professor!!! I love him!! take good notes and you'll pass!! I got an A!!!
do not ge intimitated by his talking, his not all his saying, he is really nice professor, tests are 75%from lecture,, 25%from book, you have to do 3 essay 2-3 pg, one project film essay, and an optional project from book. i am ESL and i got A on all essays. and A in class,he is really nice. take him.
he is really nice professor, do not get intimmitated at the beginning, his not like that, test are on line, 3 essays 2-3 pg, one film project to writen an essay and one optiononal. easy class. take him
He is really good. He'll play mean and rude at first, but he is nothing like that. He is brilliantly smart, funny and sweet. Class is not hard at all. Three exams online, three short papers, a film paper and an optional (extra credit) paper.
Very funny, but very intimidating. He doesn't answer questions clearly, so if you're confused, find a classmate to work through the question or ask the TA. Grades on a curve, and seems friendly enough except when he's making fun of someone. Tells funny stories. I wouldn't take him again- very difficult class.
His linguistics course ain't no joke. He's a fair teacher but that's aside the fact that the material is complex so it takes time to absorb. Homework and tests are all done online. Do not ask dumb questions and you might survive.
The class starts off really difficult--he's not a teacher to take lightly! But it does get easier as you go along, and the work isn't that difficult. Just make sure to ask for help if you need it, and ignore his off-color jokes if that stuff bothers you. He's a great teacher, though, and really smart!
2 problem papers, 5 quizzes, mid term, final, and project. Suggestions: read the chapter and read the powerpoint before coming to class. The material is not easy to learn. The teacher is pretty awesome and he cares, just not about stuff irrelevant to the subject, or else he'll put you in your place.
Frank is such an awesome teacher. He knows the subject well, and then some. He's a fun teacher; he's very crass too. Linguistics is a hard class, so do not take if you aren't ready for it. The first five chapters are the hardest, and after that it isn't hard. You will learn a lot in this class, especially if you like the subject.
Not clear at all. gives zero feedback as to why an answer is wrong or correct. doesn't go over homework or tests in class so hopefully you got it right. Makes fun of students in class in front of everyone. He isn't funny! he's jokes are off color and don't belong in the classroom. off topic every class. nice enough guy, but not a good teacher!
I took his 8 week Cultural Anthropology class. At first he tries to be intimidating but he's actually very nice, wise, a great story teller, and has a passion for his profession. The class was very easy. If you just do all of the assignments (which are easily graded) you'll get at LEAST a B. I enjoyed his class!
He was pretty easy and laid back. I took him for a hybrid 8 week class. The tests all he wanted was you to actually think and didn't give multiple choose until like the mid-terms. If you don't do everything you really will not pass, I didn't do two assignments so I got a C. I'm surprised I passed at all because I'm not a necessarily smart person
Very knowledgeable on content. Tends to go off in several directions which are interesting but not always related to what his lecture topic is. Overall a great professor to take a class from. Very enlightening!
Bad memory. Ridicules people's names. Lessons are illiterate. A lot of talking of something else. Feels unpunished.
He comes off as mean and I have a hunch that he is proud of that. But as the semester progresses you will learn that he is actually a nice person. Tests were online and not overly difficult but assignments were difficult and took time.
The first five chapters were abstract. Go to every class for these, take notes, do your reading and you'll be ok. Tutoring was available and is helpful. Quizzes/Tests have no time limit; leave open as long as your computer allows to think of the questions before submitting. D2L lectures help here too! Do extra credit but do not BS it. He knows!
Dr. Araujo is by far one of my favorite profs. The class was interesting and fun. The classwork and exams were fair. Very knowledgeable about so many different subjects. His lectures are fascinating if you are actually interested in learning. Nursing is my major, but I am so tempted to take another ANTH class so I can learn from one of the best.
awesome.
He is very unorganized, crude, and gets moody. Admittedly can be kind and made jokes but that does not make up for his teaching. He'd often become very annoyed and even blatantly rude toward students when they asked for clarification. Seems like he could be a great guy to know outside of class but he needs to put basic student needs before ego.
I took him for the summer and you learn a lot if your interested. His a great teacher, you will learn what you need for the class. He will review the material to make sure you understand.
He is one of the best professors I had so far, grades on a curve, great sense of humor and very helpful. Would take him if he was teaching anything else!
Very cool teacher, as long as you do what you are supposed to. All quizzes and tests are online because it is hard material. He is very willing to help with questions and has a great sense of humor.
Nice guy, but rambles for minutes at a time with no point. Completely off-topic. Makes the topic impossible to understand. He seems to want to show off all of the big words he knows, but is really just rambling pointlessly. Probably time to retire, though he is a nice person.
This class is EXTRMELY difficult. Entire class is lost. Tutors are not available because NO ONE HAS PASSED WITH A B OR HIGHER which is a requirement to become a tutor. Its all about the phonetic alphabet and he teacher as if we are already experts at linguistics. He is constantly extending deadlines because no one know how to do the assignments,
Talks about things that aren't relevant, extremely hard to follow, quizzes aren't long, but does require a lot of work. Very minimal homework, with the exception of a few papers.
Great professor ! Very interesting and hilarious ! The book is a must- have because the quizzes, midterm , and final are all online, all open book and open lecture, which he keeps posted up on D2l. As long as you do the quizzes , midterms and final good, you get an easy A
I'm not even religious but if I wanted to hear someone's opinion on religion I can hear it at home. He gives out light reading: 3 small books that teach the subject well but honestly you can just use google the answers. I hardly ever came to class. All the homework is turned in online so as long as you turn it all in don't bother showing up.
He is very knowledgeable and you can sense his experiences which mixed with his education and training, he is a guy to learn from. He can be blunt and upfront but the key to learning is being open minded. On tests and home works, he loves how you apply what you learned and give examples. Highly suggest the class.
Dr. Araujo is funny and his lectures are enjoyable!
This teacher is such a great guy! He's a brilliant man and has such a kind heart. He does not assign homework and very little reading. He assigned 3 tiny books for reading. He's lecture heavy and I find him to be very interesting. He knows so much but is not expecting all students to major in anthropology and makes the class easy for you.
Professor Araujo is truly an expert in the Anthropology field with many years of experience. He had the most interesting lectures. One of the easiest classes I have taken. He assigned very little hw and leniate grader. It can be difficult to reach him outside of class, so just make sure you ask him questions in class. I am glad I took his class.
Professor Araujo is passionate about linguistics. His lectures can seem intimidating, but if you study hard enough you will pass (he curves your grade). There are two problem sets, three quizzes, a language project, mid-term, & a final. JUST STUDY (final can include things not covered in class). Pass this class & you'll feel proud of yourself.
The best professor for Anthropology class ... he doesnt try to make you brainwash u into believing Darwinism or monkeys.. you have the choice not to believe in it or not .. has very interesting and funny lectures
Chill teacher, had to sign into class and couldn't miss more than 3 days, but very accommodating with what you needed. Not to much work and every quiz is online.
He was great! You can only miss 3 classes to pass the class, and if you turn everything in on time you will pass! Everything is online that you turn in, and when he tells you to get the 3 books, don't waste your money you never use them. Definitely would take him again!
He is very passionate and knowledgeable about his subject but his tests cover topics never discussed in class with answers being very debatable. During lectures, he would go on long tangents about subjects other than the class lecture. He is a very interesting man, but his tests didn't make any sense in the context of the class.
He tells you to buy 3 little books that talk about anthro and I have not opened any of the books once. All of the tests and quizzes are all online, and he doesn't hand out any paper, so all he does in class is talk and lecture. He makes it feel difficult to ask him questions, and makes you feel like you should already know what to do.
Prof Araujo is a hilarious, smart person with a lot of experience and stories. But he's a frustrating prof. He tells you to ask questions but then doesn't answer them. Sometimes forgets to teach stuff and spends entire classes on tangents. He is very lenient on tardy assignments and cares for his students. Easy pass, very stressful A.
Frank is a great and lovely man but his lectures are dull a d long as he simply read the slides and add little information. You won't get much out of this class since the material tought doesn't connect well together. The professor assumes everyone knows the material well. Exams are take home but mostly not covered in class.
Hes a funny professor but sometimes mean. There is one time when he walk by the trash can and he ask question about cultural anthropology to the class. I stretch my hands and shoulder, and he strangle my neck for no reason. I was got off guard and my friend look at me surprised. Other than that, he was a chill professor, his exam was easy for me.
Very old professor who still isnt up on the times of computers. Creates assignments and send out emails couple days before its due then responds saying sorry every time. Be prepared to be verbally abused in the discussion posts if you dont say the correct thing about a topic. Lectures are very boring and he just reads from the slides
I took this online summer class with high hopes, but got my heart broken. Discussions are easy. He wants you to read the ppts which have absolutely no usable info on them. Midterm was terrible as we did not discuss much of the subjects. He is very rude responding to you when you fail to include something. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Took this class for the summer and let me tell you, this class was not what I thought it would be. Although the discussion posts are easy and sort of interesting, if you get something wrong on it or you ask a question, he'll respond with attitude. Also the midterm was hard because he worded everything so much different from the lecture.
There's no recorded lectures-only printed notes which can be vague and confusing. You're pretty much on your own. There's only one tiny book that can fit in your pocket with the font of 8. I don't know how he's in person, but I don't recommend taking him online.
Ok, at first glance and impressions I was intimidated, but his class was not actually difficult to grasp or execute. He might come off as intense but he is very flexible with assignments if you give him notice by email or even text. He just has a charismatic personality is all. One Discussion assignment a week, three exams, and two papers. :)
This is by far the MOST difficult class Ive ever taken and I normally get As easily. The subject matter was confusing, the lectures are written as if we already have a PhD in linguistics, and he does not explain things well if you ask him a question. I do not recommend him whatsoever. Made me feel bad about not understanding HIS material.
This teacher gets angry quickly and does not listen to your explanations at all! I do not understand, if a teacher is tired of teaching, why does he convey his discomfort to the students? Such professors should retire and enjoy their lives! It is better to listen to music instead of wasting your time arguing with this professor!
From the start of my fall 21 semester, he was completely unorganized. Our syllabus quiz didnt match up with the syllabus given. And on our first week of classes he failed to mention we were not having any zoom meetings that week and that they were going to completely change to a different day and time that didnt work for my schedule.
Professor Araujo is hilarious. If you like teachers who poke fun at other students who can't read the messages he sends, he's great. There was a lot of technical hiccups in his online class and if you don't keep up with the PowerPoints, you'll fall behind pretty fast. Super messy, unorganized class. 5 quizzes, 2 papers, one midterm and a final.
