I took Calculus AB, so this class is a bit more of a review for me, so I don't pay attention much in class. He has a strong accent, so sometimes, his lectures don't make sense. He's entertaining though! Textbook required cause the homework is tied to the book (buy the online code only). Quizzes every Monday, mostly take homes.
Great professor, he has an accent but not difficult to understand. He provides many opportunities for you to succeed such as take-home quizzes, it's just up to you to put in the work.
The professors enthusiasm often gets him off track and he hardly explains some of the more challenging course concepts so be prepared to teach yourself. Also if attendance is poor than he may give pop quizzes but does get take home quizzes often. All homework assignments have opportunities to receive extra credit.
Frank was a really nice guy who was clearly passionate about Calc but was really all over the place with his lessons. If you are bad at math like myself you will get confused easily in all the unnecessary explaining he puts into each aspect of a formula. However if you do hw in the tutoring center and study the quizzes for the test youlle be fine.
All of the classwork for Arthur's MAT 117 course was done online with the ALEKS program. Expect to complete at least 9 hours of math per week. Arthur doesn't really teach the class; he mostly just answers questions and helps students individually. He seems to be a nice guy and will work with you if you have any issues with the course.
Great teacher, difficult material. You need to study a lot outside of class
If you are taking MAT 117 and it is through the ALECs program, make sure to stay on top of your topic goals or you won't finish the class on time. If you are having trouble in class go to office hours!!! Arthur is super friendly and helpful you just have to ask for it.
I loved this man! I'm pretty bad at math, but he explained the concepts so well that I ended up finishing with an A. He was so excited and passionate about the subject, and it really transferred into the quality of the lessons.
Professor Arthur genuinely cares about his students learning the material, so don't be afraid to ask questions! He is always happy to clarify and I loved his class. The most difficult part of the course are the tests, which are very similar across all MAT210 courses. Quizzes were often take-home and pop-quizzes were given for extra credit.
I love this guy he is a really funny/teacher his lectures are amazing and its not easy an course but if you put time and dedication you will do just fine, we took a pre-calc test at the beginning of the course and I got a 2 out of 10, but this teacher helped me understand the class very well and passed
He was very nice and very clear on grading and expectations. He offers a lot of extra credit if you do your topics. Great guy
Arthur is the best math teacher I have ever had! I used to dread math because I have never had a teacher that cared about how I was doing. Attendance is mandatory and if you don't show up it'll be really hard to pass. If you're struggling, GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He is extremely helpful and is willing to help you reach your goal.
Easy class for me but I know it is difficult for others. Frank is a great professor and really helps you pass. Cares about his students and teaches in an engaging and clear way. Best math professor I've had. Put in the work and you will pass
Here's a math teacher with some personality. He's loud and entertaining. He feels open to be asked questions during class. Solid professor and my pick for a MAT 210 professor.
Prof. Arthur is a great professor/person in general. His notes were always posted online bc he said having students copy notes in class was a waste of time - he just wanted us to listen/do practice problems/ask questions in class. He made calc 3 really easy to pass. He gave a ton of extra credit and dropped some quiz/HW grades. Highly recommend!!!
This is a phenomenal teacher, he is excellent with his math skills and teaching ability. He has a slight accent, but it is great and not hard to understand at all. He has a great way of teaching and is always willing to help out, outside of class. Highly recommend.
Arthur goes fast when doing his lectures. It's hard to follow along and it's also hard to understand what he is saying because of his accent. He's a great guy, but not the best teacher for math. I study for the exams and I still do poorly, if you want to become successful in this class I would say to get another professor.
Frank Arthur really takes the time to make sure his students understand the material. He is highly approachable and caring. For me the class was a little easy and slow, but it was a good problem to have. I have always done well in class and this was an easy A. A quiz every week and he dropped a quiz and homework at the end of the semester.
Terrible, he does not really care about his students. Just wants them to finish so he can worry about less. Not flexible at all, never lets you leave early even when you have an excuse.
pretty funny guy. super easy class too.
Great professor! He always made sure that the class understood the concept. He cares more about people listening in order to understand the lesson instead of taking notes. For this reason, he always post notes online and the work to any examples he did in class which are typically very similar to the homework and tests. Study guides are helpful!!
Frank was great and easily the most accessible at his office hours of all teachers I've ever had this semester. He demonstrates examples great in person and in class and his exam reviews help you focus on problems that will be on the test. Overall great teacher so if you're not good at math take him good chance you'll pass.
210 is a tough class, but Frank was an enthusiastic leader and was pretty lenient and easy to get along with. Grading is really heavily based on tests, listen to him and do the practice tests. Sometimes hard to understand what he was teaching.
I came into ASU by taking statistics my Senior year of high school, and I was skeptical whether or not I would succeed in his class. He made it perfectly clear that he wanted me to succeed, and offered great office hours (If you struggle, go and see how helpful he is). Make sure to study for the tests because those are what matter the most.
doesn't make much sense while teaching in class, very all over the place. no practice exams. attendance is mandatory. everybody in the class is always confused.
One of my favorite professors in the math department. His office hours are really helpful before an exam. Mandatory attendence makes it hard to fall behind. Lots of extra credit opportunities in class
if you have trouble with math, take this class. he is slow paced and gives extra credit. there is also a lot of take home quizzes. if you don't pass this class, its because you didn't want to. super easy pass!
After taking MAT 210, this class is a breeze. Goes through lectures really slowly and does the easiest problems, which is almost annoying at times. He posts lecture notes for every section. Need to go to class for weekly quizzes, but there's lots of extra credit.
An amazing professor! He is funny and very sweet. Office hours were at a good time and was always available by appointment. His exams were examples from class. The final had the SAME problems from class, like the same numbers. He gives quizzes which are super easy and he throws in some extra credit ones too.
Very funny, knows how to use saracasm at its finest. Thick accent but understandable. He offers extra credit on some of the quizzes, he drops the lowest one. 3 exams. He always takes attendance, so go to class! Would recommend.
Professor Arthur is an amazing teacher. Jokes a lot and gives clear examples. A lot of extra credit is available to earn. All of his test questions are pulled straight from his weekly quizzes and his notes. Preparing for his exams is simple. Honestly, the only reason to not receive an A is if you don't complete the homework or study his notes.
Arthur is a funny guy who is good at what he does. His lectures feel a bit long because he makes the material seem easy. The opportunities for extra credit are everywhere. Don't skip class or you'll miss a quiz that you can't make up.
Take this professor! Lecture notes are online and they're so easy to follow if you actually pay attention to them! He slowly goes through each math problem on the lecture notes. Quizzes are given at the beginning of class and sometimes take home. There are extra credit opportunities.
Arthur is pretty cool, if you do homework early there's extra credit, and he goes through all of the examples thoroughly. If you show up and pay attention you'll do fine.
Frank Arthur is confusing to understand in class. He goes through problems too quickly sometimes and when asked to reexplain often just points to what he's already written and goes over it the same way he taught it originally. If you ask him to go over a specific type of problem during exam review he will often say we don't have time.
He has a very heavy accent so it's hard to understand him. Goes thru all the problems really quickly, make sure to pay attention at all times. Take home quizzes sometimes, many sections on hw due on the same day sometimes. no study guides. overall he's eh, but hes the best u can get for MAT211
I really enjoyed Arthur as my math teacher. His accent is not too difficult to understand and you can tell how excited he gets about math. He explains every step of problems very well, and if you pay attention in class you should get an A. He also gives out TONS of extra credit.
He has to be one of my favorite prof. He explains everything so clearly and easily and offers extra credit on hws. There were 3 tests, and they were so so easy if you understood the concepts. Plus his quizzes help prepare you as well for the tests. He's so happy and joyous and I love going to his class. TAKE HIM!
I didn't give him a higher score because his lecture notes are a horrible mess and were difficult to follow if you're a visual learner. The content is easier than MAT210 and the tests are not cumulative. He takes attendance every class, sometimes in the form of a quiz. Some quizzes are take home. I would not recommend skipping class.
This was my second go-around taking MAT 211, and let me tell you, this professor is 10x better than the previous one I took the semester before (Lytvak). I could tell just after a couple of classes that Arthur is more caring, goes into more detail, and actually likes his job. He also creates a review guide before each exam that helps greatly.
i honestly tried so hard for this course. I know that i m not that good at math but i put a lot of time and effort into it. And i still did poorly in this class. Arthur's notes didnt make sense to me at all. he doesn't offer any extra credit, and if you messed up one test then you wont able to get an A
most quizzes are group or take home. exams have 12 multiple choice/short answer questions, each worth 5 points so if you make a little mistake on one of those it sucks. exams aren't too bad, as long as you do the review packet
Amazing nice professor. You learn the material and the tests aren't too hard. Has pop quizzes but they're usually based off a homework problem and exactly like the test problems so they really help for test review. Absolutely solid choice for any Math class. Also his notes are fine and clear idk what these people are talking about.
Nice dude, but extremely unorganized. His syllabus says all quizzes are all open notes and open partner which is a lie. Spends barely any time on each section! He provides no resources other than his written notes so if you are looking for extra videos that other professors provide then do not take this class. I switched to another class online.
Dr. Arthur is the best math prof I have had at ASU. He is caring and makes class feel light, while still articulating the concepts very well and welcoming questions. The exams are often easier than the webwork, and he makes it clear what you'll be tested on. Any time there's a quiz, he gives a heads up.
Great guy! Exams are just like quizzes and example problems from the notes. Half of the quizzes were take home and he dropped our two lowest quiz grades. Highly recommend for Calc 3.
DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK! Arthur writes his own posted to Canvas. Review them! Calc3 is basically Calc2 but in 3D, so if you aced Cal2, it'll be ez. ALSO: Arthur isn't the BEST lecturer, and he can make topics difficult and won't answer your questions straightforward. You're better off studying on your own tbh. Exams questions are from quizzes & HW.
Great guy and teacher, made everything very understandable. The tests are hard only bc MC questions are 7 pts each. Very light on the Webwork assignments and gives ample time to complete. Doing them really helps for tests. Took AP calc in HS, walked into this guy my 1st semester of college and it was really no sweat. Arthur really is a great prof.
I took him last semester and he is a great professor! His lectures always made sense and if you did the homework and went to lecture the exams were a breeze. Overall, a great professor
For a Math course it was super easy. Professor Arthur is hilarious and his lectures are simple and to the point. If you listen in class and do the homework online you'll do well on tests. Lots of extra credit. Highly recommend. Much easier than MAT210.
Dr. A genuinely wants his students to succeed. Spent almost 2 hrs after class answering questions to make sure everyone understood the material. 1 quiz each week; some are group or take home. Tests/quizzes are fair- easy if you go to class & do the study guides. 3 exams, no cumulative final. Listens to student feedback. Great choice for MAT211.
only reference for summer class!!! - his class is very fast and very unclear, I would say I have taken the class in ASU for 1 year, this professor is the worst professor, and this professor is the only one I rate for 1. He gives a lot of homework, quiz, exam. and the exam is super hard. strongly not command taken his class in summer!!!!!!!!!!!
I took this as a summer course during COVID and Professor Arthur made it as easy as possible. The structure was clear from the beginning, but it's very fast-paced since it's a one-semester class in 6 weeks. He's very accessible for any questions about the content and was quick and knowledgable in his responses. Final & midterm worth 80% of grade
Dr. Arthur is the best math professor I've had. His humor made the material a bit lighter, and his lectures were smooth and easy to follow. He write notes along with you so the pace is set reasonably. You can tell he really cares about his students and is very approachable. If he's offered for something you're taking, TAKE HIM!
To give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was given this class last minute, but he was barely present in this class. I am a transfer with another degree, and this was one of only a couple lower division classes I have to take at ASU, so maybe this is the norm. Either way, I expected more.
The two exams are basically your grade, you do bad on one your basically done with the class unless you can ace the other somehow. Way too much information thrown at you at once and the Pearson MyLab Math course work is extremely tedious and unfair so you will not actually learn anything making your only option to memorize the content.
When you ask for help, He will tell you to watch "YOUTUBE" videos. - RIDICULOUS.
Super nice guy, gives great lectures with good notes, paces himself well and does tons of examples. Just go to class, take notes, and make sure you pay extra attention for the last couple sections because they are definitely a little harder. Rest of the class was a breeze though.
There is certainly an accent with Professor Arthur, but I never had any trouble hearing him. He really cares and wants to make sure his students understand everything. He has to follow the rules, but tries to make sure grading is easy on the students. The reason I only got a B is because math isn't my best subject. Low stress with Arthur!
Dr. Arthur is a great person and is really passionate about his teaching. He reads through the notes during lectures and goes very fast. Be prepared to teach yourself. Tests are not too bad and are exactly like the review guides. You have to work for your grade. There is also 5% extra credit on homework assignments and extra credit on quizzes.
He is very helpful if you go to his office hours however he tends to take a few days to respond to emails. He is very caring and wants his students to pass, however he does not curve exams. He uploads all of his notes online.
This course is very hard, due less to the Prof as much as it is the pace of curriculum required by the ASU Math dept for all math classes. This is the 3rd I've taken (thankfully the last required for my major). Lectures in ASU math classes are rarely from the assigned Prof though Prof Arthur was readily available to help if needed.
Dr. Arthur is a solid choice for this class. Everything is very straightforward -lectures, notes, and assignments- but you have to put in effort. The amount of effort varies depending on your own strength in math, but Dr. Arthur is very accommodating (extra credit!) and is always willing to help if you need it.
Frank was cool but seemed super unorganized online. You could tell that he was really trying but online definitely isn't his strong suit. There are 3 tests worth 25% each of your grade. He also has a thick accent which takes a while to get used to.
He is a super nice professor for this course. There will be quizzes, which the questions on the quizzes will be similar to exams. And, he will upload his super detailed written note to Canvas. Also, he is caring and respectful, and offer extra credits during the Covid to save us!!!
Homework is worth nothing in this class, 80% of the grade is 2 tests. Unfortunately, you will spend hours completing all the homework just to see that if you can't complete the "quiz" with at least 75% you cant access the review. So you do all this homework just happen to not be able to get the grade on the homework and he withholds vital info
Professor Arthur is a solid choice for math for business analysis. The homework is hard but he explains how to do it during class. Tests are pretty tough and there are 3 that make up 75% of your grade. There are 6 quizzes and he dropped the lowest 2. The third test is the final so there is no cumulative final. Thick accent but you get used to it.
I've taken his class twice online and I didn't even know what he looked like the entire time. He uses Pearson and your answer has to be exact by the decimal on that system or you won't get the question right. The exams are worth 60% of your grade so you could get 100% on everything but the exams and still fail. Avoid this class if you can.
Just take this class at a community college. Dude barely speaks english so good luck understanding him. You could have an A on every assignment possible, but one test is enough to bring you down multiple letter grades. But hey, if you like paying thousands a semester to teach yourself all the material, then this class is for you.
Never have i had a worse professor in my life. Currently a senior and this my first review of rating a professor so this should tell you something. Do yourself a favor if you like life, do not take an accelerated course or any course with this guy. Pretty much had the t.a. run the whole class by answering all questions. 3 day response to emails.
Frank is definitely a sweet guy, but not the best Math teacher. Online with him is definitely not the way to go. He does have a heavy accent but you get used to it pretty quick but there are times that he gets lost teaching and explains things in an over complicated manner. Really strict about no curve and is not really accommodating to any issues.
I am happy I managed to pass this course and he was much better when it comes to helping me out. I also studied so hard that my brain was hurting to pass because you can only take these classes so many times. He was a nice professor.
He's not bad but I wouldn't recommend him. The content is easy if you remember calc I and II, if not you'll probably struggle. It's easier to just read the textbook than follow his examples during class. Not the worst professor I've had but def not the best.
All of his notes are posted at the beginning of the semester, so work ahead if you can. Everything he goes over is included in the notes so if you need extra practice you need to refer to the book. The exams aren't easy but they are fair and the weekly quizzes are collaborative and open note so you should be fine. Not a bad professor for Calc III.
Overall one of the best teachers I have ever had period. He understands the material to a point he is able to explain most things in different ways to make sure everyone understands. He brings an energy to the class I haven't gotten anywhere else and I would recommend him if calc3 seems scary.
He posts all the notes at the beginning of the course but sometimes there are mistakes/he adds extra problems during class to go over. His accent takes some getting used to but he will gladly repeat himself so you can understand. If you pay attention during lecture you will be fine - I did not pass because I did not pay attention, not his fault!
His notes don't always make sense, especially if you miss a class. I had to self teach for most of it. The test reviews don't help at all and take forever to get through. Its easier and faster to go through all the webwork problems and practice those. Theres always 1 or 2 questions that are from the notes and never practiced in the hw.
I took session b calc3 and an icourse, I ended up doing full session withdrawal because I was failing this classs. There are no lectures, no office hours, and zero feedback. 90% of grade is exams 10% hw/webwork which is HEAVY load and a lot of work. Only way to pass is to self teach which I did, but its to fast to keep up. Thrown to the wolves : (
Prof. Arthur's heart is in the right place, but I couldn't succeed with his teaching style. His notes are very confusing. HW's are wildly more difficult than problems in lecture, to the point of confusion. Be prepared to self teach this class. Utilize tutoring, online resources, and other way's to learn, b/c lecture is the bare minimum at best.
Out of the three calculus teachers I have had at ASU, this is the best one I've had by a long shot. He brings energy into his lectures that I haven't seen before in other teachers. What I will say is that you need to review his notes before tests. Lots of test questions get pulled from example problems. Class is fairly light on webwork as well.
Throughout the semester my group had As and before the final exam we made sure the grades were accurate and the weight of everything was set. He said yes on email and we took the final exam getting the bare minimum to receive an A. Grades were submitted to the university and transcripts showed As now a day later hes trying to change all grades
Professor Arthur is the best calculus prof I have had at ASU thus far. His notes are not the most helpful for the homework but will really help when studying for the exams. He really cares and wants everyone to pass as long as you show you care. I would definitely take him again and would recommend him to anyone taking MAT267.
This is the most unprofessional professor I have ever encountered. He just failed out a majority of one of his precalculus courses. The class was using a grading scale that he changed after the final grade was submitted. This in return dropped most everyone's grade by 2 whole letter grades. This was a mistake on his end and he refuses to fix.
A great professor that makes learning calculus interesting. He's very passionate about the subject which makes lectures easier to follow along. It's a challenging course but he does his best to help students, like giving out extra credit on the quizzes.
Professor Arthur seems like a decent guy, but he comes to class unprepared and constantly makes little errors throughout his lectures. Sometimes he has to start over an entire problem because he's used too much Wite-Out by that point. This makes the class a bit tough to follow. His thick accent can also make things difficult to understand.
I had him for Calc 3 and did not pass. His notes are messy and unorganized and look nothing like the homework problems. His office hours are not very helpful because he gets frustrated when you aren't understanding it. He brushes off questions and makes you feel stupid for asking about how to integrate if you've forgotten. Don't take him. Just no.
Half of the exam is multiple choice so take that how you want to. If you're like me and you struggle with math I don't recommend him - his accent is hard to understand and the homework is awful. Sometimes he'll give EC but it doesn't really help.
Thick accent that's hard to understand. Grade is composed of 3 tests. Notes are by hand & hard to read- a lot of mistakes in class too. If you can self-learn you'll be okay, but I wouldnt depend on him to teach the material or help if you need it. I'm doing fine in the class, but that's due to prior knowledge of the material. I wouldn't reccommend.
He's a good guy. Class is relatively easy. He posts all notes online
Prof is clearly knowledgeable in his field but it doesn't quite transfer over to student benefit. He puts helpful handwritten notes on Canvas and rewrites them in class for students to follow along, but makes errors frequently and it's hard to navigate through all that white-out. Only graded on 10 small quizzes, hw, and 3 exams (can't drop).
The prof. is really helpful and gives out time to everyone and teaches really well, but if you miss one class you will have to suffer a lot. This class itself is such a difficult class that if you mess up one exam you can't climb up to an A or B+ from a C.
Mislabeled exams constantly. Chapter 11 Review on Canvas is the Midterm practice on pearson which is also labeled as midterm in canvas. Very misleading and uncomfortable to take with him
I don't really see any particular appeal with this guy. Don't get me wrong he's good but he's not very good. I'd definitely recommend him though. I trusted the 4.0 rating he had before the semester me and it turned out to be accurate.
It's a lot of lectures, but he is possibly the best math lecturer I've ever had. Will go into extra detail with anything you ask, and has many different ways of explaining each topic. Super friendly and LOVES teaching. His accent was literally never a problem- people that say it was were just looking for an excuse.
Professor Arthur is nice but his accent can make it difficult to understand him. You'll already know if the course will be difficult for you depending on your math skills.
Professor Arthur was pretty responsive, and he answered questions as much as he could. He definitely seems like he wanted to try to get everyone to pass the class. The tests were worth 84% (3) and the homework was worth 16%. The tests have a really low amount of questions, which can be good/bad. Material is abstract, the integrals were the worst.
My new favorite professor! He's super caring and funny. His lectures were pretty good his class was really well structured. I also liked his system of taking notes and the tests were not at all surprising which was nice. The matlabs suck but that's not his fault. I would 100% recommend him and have been to everyone I know taking this class.
Professor Arthur is good. There's not much else to say. He gives students what they need to pass. I did notice he was a bit unorganized, especially with lecture notes but no big deal. A brief statement about why we are learning what we are learning would also have been nice since there are a lot of applications for diff eq. A solid choice for 275.
Seriously the best math professor I've had. His lectures are very easy to follow and he is more than willing to explain concepts in a different way to make sure you understand. He really wants you to succeed and is very lenient with partial credit. The MATLAB can be a little thick sometimes, but the videos posted on canvas run thru everything.
Good professor overall. Lectures can be hard to follow at times but are rarely boring. Exams make up a very large portion of the grade and are not easy. Homework is all through webwork and isn't time consuming. Subject matter requires some effort to understand but isn't too bad.
Great guy. Class can feel a bit tedious at times but he's really caring and wants you to do well. Study guides are great and the exams are straight forward, but exams are worth most of your grade. Offers extra credit for turning in homework early and drops 2 lowest quizzes. Holds exam review sessions the night before and tutoring helps a lot.
This professor was the worst I ever had. I took MAT 211 with him. He doesn't accept nothing late, he is rude on his replies, he was rude with other students on the discussion board, and lock them out of the exam review for not doing the "mastery points", even though they are only worth 10% and the exams are worth 80% (40% each), awful experience.
Horrible. Worst instuctor I've ever had. Unresponsive to emails. Unreasonable workloads, aggressive syllabus.
I deicded to take MAT211 with Prof. Arthur after seeing all the good reviews about him, however, I was highly mistaken. The workload is insane and completely unrealistic. If you are planning on taking other classes along with this class then pick a different professor. He is extremely rude and not helpful. Would not reccomend to anyone!!
Classes can be boring and repetitive, but he does a good job of covering the concepts and often does problems straight from the homework which is very helpful. Your grade is essentially just whatever you get on the tests, but there are only three of them and no cumulative final. I would definitely recommend him.
Goes through examples in class somewhat similar to hw, heavy but understandable accent, VERY HARD final with 90% on test 3 and after content. Maintained an A throughout the semester only to drop a whole letter grade from the final... wouldn't take again and be prepared to teach yourself outside of class
His lectures are pretty boring but he does care about your success in the course. For the first 2 exams, you can learn on your own but the last exam was pretty difficult. It sucks that he does not offer extensions for HW assignments as that is what prevented me from getting an A. Overall he's a pretty average professor but he does care about you.
One of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. Nearly every assignment was treated as a "test". When I took this class, 40% of my grade was for the midterm and 40% for the final exam. The professor was not that easy to access, but when a lot of students got together, we were finally given deadline extensions.
Prof Arthur gives quizzes and homework that go hand in hand with the lectures in class (posted on canvas). He's funny and caring, goes into depth if asked and truly has a passion for math and gives extra credit. The exams are weighed heavily and are difficult compared to HW and quizzes, but if you study course material prior you will be good!
Out of all my years of school, this is the worst one I have ever had. He is not considerate, caring, or respectful to his students. Based on the course load, he thinks that the entire summer is supposed to be focused on his class and that his students don't have lives outside of class. DO NOT take this professor. One assignment missed=auto drop.
Professor Arthur was so far, the worst Professor at ASU I have had. His video notes are not even himself, they're taken from another professor. Very limited contact with students, often responding days later at midnight. The concepts aren't too difficult, however, the student is required to self teach. Stay away if you can.
I really enjoyed taking professor Arthur for diff eq. The tests are probably too much of the grade but his tests are very easy relative to calc 2 and calc 1. He is a fair grader and lots of partial credit, does a good job of being accessible in and out of class. He wants to see you succeed. His lectures can be a little long so review before class.
The ideal professor in my opinion. Respectful and understanding when it comes to dealing with students. Very organized and straight to the point when it comes to the lessons. The course is known to be fairly easy, but he for sure made it feel easier since exams were very straightforward. Just attend his classes and follow along.
Lectures were pretty good, good pace and paired really well with the homework and the tests. Although the second half of the semester he rushed things a little and tests got extremely difficult. Test questions are pretty much the lecture examples, so just take notes in class, do the homework, and you'll be fine. Curves every single test by the way.
I took Frank's calc 1 having passed calc 2 with an A in high school. He somehow made calc 1 confusing. The homework and tests were reasonable but his lectures were not put together well.
Professor Arthur is so kind, you do have to put in effort to succeed in the class but as long as you attend class everyday and ask questions everything will be good! :)
He is okay. Homework is more difficult criteria than what is taught in lectures. 75% of the grade is for exams and there are 3 exams
This is easily the worst teach I have ever had the displeasure to endure. I emailed him about an emergency I had and after a 3 week wait time for an email, he proceeded to ask for prove of my grandmother falling in the garden. I never spoke to him about the class he could have quit halfway through the semester and I might have done better.
Be prepared to teach yourself outside of his lectures. Rather than thoroughly explaining the material he is teaching, he kind of just works each problem out at his own pace. I would definitely try not to miss any lectures because of the sheer density of content in this course. Grading on tests is pretty generous though.
The lectures aren't super helpful, and he talks pretty fast. There is no extra credit, and the homework will very rarely impact your grade. Not a bad class at all, just make sure to study for the tests, and watch out for pop quizzes.
Not a lot of extra credit opportunities. Clear instructions and generally sweet.
There is a discussion board and other students asked for more resources or at least lectures (he gives some standard math dep video) and he basically said "no can do". I was averaging 40-50 hrs a week to just find out how to solve the problems since he seems to basically be here to collect a check. If hw was explained, probably 15 hrs hw a week.
Talks very fast and is hard to keep up with him, he is nice but not a very good teacher.
Probably more due to the ASU online math, but HW was 10% of grade, no feedback for incorrect answers. A lot of time spent trying to get the system to accept the answer for HW, instead of learning where the mistake was. Instructor would respond to direct questions, but was late setting up the course Canvas, didn't provide links to textbooks, etc.
Nice but not willing to help students. He answered emails but deadlines strict and not enough time for how long assignments take. Each section has several parts + mini quiz for each part, that must be passed with an 80 in order to take the actual quiz. Sucks to spend hrs doing work but get a 0 bc you didn't do the final quiz in enough time.
I'm not sure why Dr. Arthur has such a low rating. He was a great professor, really passionate about math. He was great at explaining concepts and giving relevant examples. He takes attendance via sign in sheet but nothing was ever done with it. 3 main exams, final non-cumulative, 2-3 homework a week, occasional quizzes.
I loved having him as a teacher! He made everything so easy and the review guides are exactly the test except with different numbers. He is so kind and really helpful and makes everything really easy to understand.
Guys Frank is a friend. First day of class I went up and shook his hand and told him my name, then did it again on the last day and he totally remembered me and said I was a good student, like what a guy. There is a good amount of homework, but it's math so what'd you expect. Tests are easier than the homework too. Overall a solid professor.
Overall, he's a decent instructor. He knows the material very well but it is definetely up to you if you are striving for an A or A+ in this class. Be sure to thoroughly prepare for exams in this class as they are like 3/4ths of the entire class grade.
Workload for this three unit course is more than eight units from my other classes combined. Matlab assignments (CODING) thrown at you with absolutely zero explanation in class, and faulty videos on canvas that do not help you either. Lectures and the professor are fine, but the structure of this class and its workload is insane for 3 units.
Frank is a great guy but his teaching ability can be seen as frustrating and hard to follow. Given his thick accent, it can be hard to understand what he is saying and it doesn't help when he moves through lectures fast either. The lectures aren't put together very well as he just writes on scratch paper for you to follow along.
he is good at teaching math, somehow entertaining to listen to
Arthur is a very good teacher that is pretty engaging and funny. He goes through his notes pretty quickly but they are pretty consise. He is helpful explaining concepts to you if asked. he was a slight accent but it is pretty easy to understand. There were a few take home quizzes that were pretty easy.
What a good guy and I have no issues. with him. Respectable nice and great to his students. Tests are also rather easy I would say. BUT THE TA KIMBALL JOHNSTON IS THE WORST TA EVER LIKE BRO UR A TA WHY ARE U TAKING UR JOB SO SERIOUSLY> HES GRADING MATLABS LIKE HES RUNNING SEAL TEAM 6.
Professor Arthur is a solid teacher overall. The work can be challenging, but he explains concepts well and provides helpful review guides. Unstuck study AI was a great supplement for preparing. Definitely worth taking his class.
My first professor went to the hospital in the middle of the semester and Professor Arthur picked up our class midway through. He's a chill guy fr who really is just there for a great time. He let us decide the due dates of our homeworks and also gave us extra credit if we studied.
I had such a hard time learning a single thing in this class. The lectures were poorly structured, and his accent and quick movement through topics made him very hard to follow. He did not answer questions and was extremely non-flexible... He is probably a nice guy, but in absolutely no universe would I recommend him as a professor.
I truly feel like Frank is a good guy. He's really likeable and cares a lot about his students and teaching mathematics. Personally, I struggled in his class because at times his teaching can be hard to follow. He would often make mistakes on the board and write random notes. If you pay attention, you'll do fine. He wants to see you succeed.
Professor Arthur is so enthusiastic and passionate about math! His lectures match most of homework problems and review packet is very similar on the first two exams, except the finals, which is more difficult. He has an accent, but the coursework is generally easier to learn by yourself. His teaching is OK, but sometimes, his notations aren't great
Honestly I really enjoyed Prof. Arthur. He made the lectures engaging and interesting while teaching in a manner that made sense for the class. His handwriting at times can definitely be sloppy and have mistakes but otherwise, way better professor than many others that I've had through my time at ASU. Highly recommend Prof. Arthur.
Professor Arthur is very knowledgeable on the topics and explains them in an engaging manner. His notes are easy enough to understand and are clear. The only thing is that the class is test heavy and your grade heavily rely on three tests. However, his study guides are very similar to the tests so as long as you do them, you should be okay.
If you actually put the time and effort into the class, you will succeed. He might not be the greatest at answering your questions, but if you go to every lecture, do the entire study guide, do your homework, and participate in class, you will do well. Utilize your resources outside of class, such as the Math Tutoring Centers.
8 assignments on the first week and required a 70% or it's an automatic drop from the class. I will say as the weeks went on the assignments reduced. the lectures are very long some over an hour not necessary. The first few lessons taught me nothing I took no notes and still passed the first test with a 88% by teaching myself.
He is an extremely kind and nice guy, but he is not a good professor. His accent is way too hard to understand. You are learning so many new things, and it is impossible to know them with that accent. Again, he is a nice guy, but there is no way I would recommend him as a professor. I'm having to use other resources to learn the material.
Class instructions were clear. We had some in-class pop quizze,s but you could do them online if you weren't there. I mostly did the homework while he taught the material in class. There is a good energy in his class.
Meh Professor. Posts the notes online but they can get super confusing because he fills pretty much every square inch with writing. His hw due dates don't align with what he goes over in class: ie your 9.3 hw is due tonight but he's going over 9.6 in class. This is cuz he gives you a millennium to get the work in. Also has random pop quizzes.
I enjoyed this class. Sometimes he is a little hard to understand but the material is not that hard. Definitely pay attention to his lectures and practice exams, he sometimes gives problems that are really similar to the test. One of the better calc professors.
Its one of the most challenging classes I have taken, The lectures are from another teacher. Tests have no leeway when it comes to the answers. I did tutoring 12-18 hours a week and still did not pass. I wish credit was given for work, I would have passed. I would not take this professor again, he's not involved in the class, takes days to respond.
Nice guy, class is rough. If you have him don't rely on his notes to help with the homework. I'll save you some time by letting you know that there isn't gonna be any problems remotely like the homework in the notes or in class.
Despite mixed reviews, he is a caring and supportive professor who wants his students to succeed. Homework was manageable, and he prepared us well for quizzes and exams. I completed an honors contract with him, and he was extremely helpful throughout the process. Attending class is important and directly impacts your final grade.
He actually wasn't my teacher, but he substituted for my class once, and it was great! I wish I had taken him. His lecture was easy to understand and follow. He has a great personality and you can tell he does genuinely care about teaching.
One of the best teachers you could take for any math class. accent can be thick but truly not hard to pick up after one week. most math teachers have thicker accents. He truly cares about you and he understands the material is hard and offers extra credit when others don't. “Pop” quizzes but ours are every friday and you work together w classmates
Definitely take Professor Arthur; he cares about students and wants us to succeed. There is 5% extra credit for every homework assignment with extensions in special cases. 3 exams total, as long as you come to class and do the review packet, you'll be good. He will also have extra office hours on zoom the night before each exam. TAKE HIM!
Prof. Arthur was great. 5% extra credit if you turn in HW early and extra credit on tests by doing review packets. Just go to lectures and do the homework. The tests will be very easy if you do the review packets, because they're basically identical. Very understanding with homework and quizzes are easy.
Although the class was weighted test heavy the teacher offered lots of extra credit giving 5% on every homework assignment turned in 24 hours early and on a lot of quizzes too. The class was weighted hard on tests but his lectures are enjoyable for the class size and he is nice to students even letting me take a quiz I missed during office hours.
Super sweet guy, accent isn't bad at all, and loves what he does. Lectures do get kind of boring and he sometimes does problems wrong and needs correction. Pop quiz every Friday, EC on all HW submitted early, and 3 big tests that amount to a big part of your grade. I switched to his class from another
