His basic classes are too hard. He rants about his "Harvard degree" and acts like a moron most of the time. Don't bother with lecture, read the text.
Really good prof, especially compared to other instructors I've heard about who teach this course. Tells really good stories to illustrate points. Can be a little bit arrogant at times, but he's fair to students and his tests reflect the notes.
I think he's funny. 202 is pretty easy with him if you even somewhat pay attention. And i only heard him mention harvard like once or twice and i went to every class.
Very good professor. One of the best that I ever had.
I did not enjoy this class at all. I took it purely for fun an I could not stand his attitude. He's self centered and talks too much about whats wrong with others in his life. hmmmm, maybe he's the problem?
I loved this class! This was the one lecture that I really looked forward to and tried to never miss. His charisma and love of psychology comes through and make class fun and interesting. I would take any class he teaches!
He was one of the radest professors I've had. Gave us many opportunities to get a good grade in his class and his lectures we're hilarious. I would take any other classes from him for sure.
A GREAT teacher. Took 201 with Skaggs and that was the most boring class I've ever been in. Bernieri makes class very entertaining and doesn't spoonfeed the material but still gets his point across. Is not egotistical like some say, but read the book.
One of the most entertaining and informative professors I've had. I highly recommend this class.
Love the class! He's very entertaining and passionate about psychology. I always look forward to his lectures. He always has interesting examples to get his point across.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Great sense of humor, fair, and (most importantly) knows his subject very well. I truly enjoyed attending lecture. His tests do a good job of testing your true understanding and are not tricky at all.
This class was very interesting, not to mention also entertaining and fun...it makes the subject even more enjoyable when the professor understands the subject well and makes it easy to relate to and understand! If you read the chapters, the tests are easy; remember to read section in the back too!
Very good professor, made me want to go into psychology further. Easy to listen to and has a good sense of humor. If you are going to take a psych class I would recommend trying to get into one of his courses. I'm in another psych class with Hughley and it is a boring 1h20m every time.
Bitter, pompous, and sarcastic...which is awesome. Probably THE smartest psych professor on campus...but he'll let you know it, ad nauseum. If you can get past that, you'll love him. Tests aren't too difficult if you pay attention in lecture. Overall, good guy.
Dr. Bernieri is an expert in his field and it really shows in his lectures. They are entertaining and full of information if you listen. Most importantly, he can answer any question you throw at him.
If psychology is your major. Do not take this class he will ruin it for you
Berniari is extremely full of himself, and it shows. His lecture style is very sarcastic and pompous. He discredits psychology as a science, and made me stop considering it as a major. Interesting material and smart man, but very overconfident and the class suffers because of it.
He's really interesting. He makes you want to go to class
He is a lot of fun to listen to. His lectures are hard to take notes from, but it is still fun. Just read, and you wont have a problem
Absolutely wonderful class!!
He's super hard, but an amazing professor
The lectures are always entertaining and you never know what he is going to do next. His material changes from term to term so it keeps it exciting. He uses a variety of teaching techniques to get the material across. My best advice for the class...do the reading, thats what he tests on.
Entertaining lecture. Tests are basically out of the book though.
best psych teacher ever. loved all the stories about the ex-wife in new york.
Besides mentioning his '' Harvard degree'' every single class, and his "better than thou" attitude...he knows his stuff....
Even though he can be a jerk sometimes, he knows his stuff. I'm a psych major, and he's not ruined it for me, which is what some people have said.
HE SUCKS!
Hes Awesome
Totally interesting, such as the day he shattered a clipboard in the middle of class to demonstrate his point about fear.
He can get annoying/cocky at times, but his lecutures are interesting and full of surprises. His tests were kinda hard though and most things came from the book, not notes. I highly recommend getting the study guide for the book. He took a lot of quiz ques

So glad to be taking his class for a research project, but I've got nothing but good things to say about him. He does know his stuff, and if you're upset that psychology isn't an exact science, you probably shouldn't study it.
I was a psych major until i took this class. Lectures where entertaining, but he acted like he was high and mighty. He really knows what he's talking about so its like he expects more from an entry level class. He would be a better professor if he wasn't teching intro classes.
Very interesting class. He can be a little arrogant, but definitely enjoys what he is teaching.
Great teacher -- lecture was very informative and not boring. I suggest this professor... he actually knows what he is talking about.
He is a funny guy, but for some reason I always get tired in his class and so does everyone else around me. The class average for quiz's is 3 out of 8,we're 200 stupid people.
This was a fun class because we watched experiments and we were the researchers. I like him a lot...he is really smart and funny. I think he motivates people to think in ways they normally wouldn't
Fab. Ultra-fab. Teaches well, speaks like a real person (when you talk to him one-on-one especially), and really knows his stuff. Very understanding. Tests are average, so just study. I had a great time!
Very entertaining teacher, keeps lecture interesting. Weekly quizzes were hard, so make sure you do the reading. The first test is only worth 10% of your grade, so don't worry if you fail it. Tests were average, if you study, you'll be fine. Recommend this teacher, he knows a lot!
Hes very interested in what he teaches and in talking to you after class. He'll spark your interest with psychology definetly! I changed my major after his class!
Great teacher, he knows a lot and makes class interesting. He is bold in a lot of things he says, but that makes class fun. I changed my major to Psychology after I took his 202 class frosh year when I was undecided. :)
His lectures are very interesting
Great class!!! One of my top 5 favs!! He is a great teacher...he is funny and interesting!! If you pay attention and go to class he will teach you how to rule the world through psychology!! it is awsome!!! Im seriously considering changing my major to PSY just because of how interesting he made it!!
very arrogant, and really does not care about your grade, i ended up with a B+, but you have to read! each test is over 7 -9 chapters
Probably the best professor I have ever had. Dr. Bernieri absolutely knows his stuff and is very enthusiastic in teaching it. He makes jokes regularly and will embarass himself for the students to get a laugh. It keeps the class interested and made me want to learn more on what he was talking about.
If you are NOT an academic wimp who is here for a token degree, you will get far more than your money's worth from him. An exceptional professor. Will challenge you and give you insight. OSU is extremely lucky to have someone of his caliber and extensive contribution to the field. Arrogant only towards people who don't/won't do the work.
The best professor I've ever known.
I am graduating this year and have still not had a class as great as 202.He was great in 360 too.His teaching skills are amazing and you too get caught up in his love of the subject and his yearning for you to learn and understand psychology. He is the kind of professor I expected to see in a college level course. If only they were all this good.
great guy who truly loves what he teaches which really helps you understand and enjoy a topic. I would also recommend him for PSY 360. Must read and study for his class, but it is worth it and he respects students who work hard and take the time to know what they are talking about. You can have some very good conversations with him on psychology.
Relies heavily on textbook. Class lectures can be entertaining, with interesting anecdotes and illutstrations, but generally not terribly important. He does choose very interesting film clips to show. Quizes every friday, so attendance for the quizes are necessary. His lecturing style can be annoying, but he is a good person and informative.
Not there to help. This class is 100% about the book. He doesnt seem to enjoy teaching.
He makes the lectures fun and interesting but the information is all learned from the book. Quizzes every friday and a midterm every other week. If you do not do well with learning 4-5 chapters in 2 weeks you will struggle in this class.
Great teacher for upper division psych classes. He is really excited about the material, which makes the classes more enjoyable. If you keep up with the reading, and go over the key points, you'll do well. Quizzes most Wednesdays, only 10 questions, and not difficult. It's a really interesting course.
Great professor! He made me fall in love with psych, now I'm majoring in it. The class is not a breeze, but this is college folks. You must read the book (about a chapter a week--completely manageable) His lectures are awesome, and well worth coming to, but it's not the end of the world if you get sick and miss a day or two.
Very unclear on what to study
The whole class was about reading the book. Completely unnecessary to go to class. He told us the first day that we don't need to come to class because he'd only teach us 3 of the 50 things on each test. He should not be getting paid!! What a waste of money! Stutters all throughout the lecture and takes him 20+ min to explain one topic.
He is amazing! Energetic and very good with explanations.
He was awesome!
Absolutely fabulous. I was really put off with his arrogant behavior at first, but by the end of the term I thought he was great. I didn't read much of the book, just listened in lectures and I got a A.
The class is 100% graded off the book. There are quizzes every Fri and 4 exams, the final being 40% of your grade. Quizzes and exams are NOT easy. He knows what he's talking about, but lectures about 2 things in the book. Any extra credit only goes towards quiz percentage of your grade. If your not an exam taker, don't take this course from him.
Very entertaining and obviously knows his stuff.
Dr. Bernieri was amazing! I have never had a professor in which I looked forward to go to class. He had very interesting lectures and the tests were questions that were straight from the book. I would definitely recommend him!
Pretty entertaining, but easy to zone out. Most material from lecture is not on the test, mostly from reading the text book.
Dr. Berneri is great. He is a wealth of knowledge and truly enjoys teaching intro psych. You must read the book, study, and actually put in some work. Don't expect a free grade, but if you put in the effort you will get the grade you deserve.
This class was overall a good experience. It isn't important to attend class, but reading the textbook is crucial to pass the weekly quizzes. Bernieri is very confident and often berates other opinions and fields of study in favor of his own. That aside, his lectures are informative and entertaining. Study hard and this class will be a breeze!
Excellent, engaging professor. He really knows what's up - knows about psychology, knows how to teach it. Go to his class, you'll learn something in spite of yourself.
Lectures are a waste of time. He is unclear and disorganized. Only discusses 2-3 topics during class, instead of reinforcing the material from the textbook. Knows his stuff, but doesn't know how to teach. Read the textbook, take the quizzes and tests, and forget about about everything else.
Not a good instructor.
Dr. Bernieri is funny, entertaining and knows his material. However, he does not know how to teach, and spends most of his time just trying to entertain the students. Reading the book is the only place you will actually learn anything.
Lectures are a waste of time. Just read the book. I would advice you not to take 202 with him, he just rambles in lecture and it can be challenging. Take 202 from the lady (IDK her name) she offers so much extra credit.
Sure, Dr. Berneiri is entertainting to listen to... but he does absolutely NOTHING to prepare you for his magnitude of tests. Dr. Berneiri even said, "I pride myself on being one of the most difficult professors at OSU." DO NOT TAKE PSY 202 WITH HIM. Be warned. It is way too hard and almost impossible to pass. :( trust me...
Says it's the first time he's ever taught a class this way, it's unorganized. Weekly assignments are hard, end up being 6 pages long, and take FOREVER. I hate the style, getting in groups and regurgitating whats in the book to the class (the textbook is also hard to understand.) Can't miss class cause theres a quiz or prequiz every day. Not fun.
Quiz everyDAY. It's like he's experimenting on his students. Boring classes. You only gotta MAKE yourself learn entirely from the book. Do not ever take him. He's a nice guy but you'll regret it. 2 weeks past the class and half of us were already failing.
He was one of the most interesting professors i have had. He taught stuff outside of the book and when questions came up on the test his examples came to mind. His way of explaining psychology was brilliant, if you can get this teacher you should try!
He was one of my favorite psychology professors I have ever had. He's passionate about social psychology and it really interesting to listen to. He's hilarious too! I was never bored in his class. He has quizzes every class, but as long as you read the book, you'll do fine. Buying the book is necessary if you want a good grade in this class.
My favorite Psychology professor! The course wasn't easy, but it wasn't unnecessarily difficult. He really cares about his students and is great at explaining concepts in creative ways. If you want to learn a lot and be entertained at the same time, and are willing to put in a little work, this is the course for you.
I took this professor for Psy 202 and I absolutely loved this class!!! He is hysterical and makes the lectures interesting. People say the class is hard, but all you have to do is read the book and you'll get an A in this class. This was the one class I actually enjoyed going to
Looking for an easy class? Move on. Looking to be inspired? Take PSY 360 with Dr. Bernieri. Dr. Bernieri is very clear: if you do not read the textbook CAREFULLY you will not pass. Approach him with an open mind: he might seem arrogant, but there is a method to his madness and everything he does in this class has a reason. Oh and he's funny.
Lectures were fine, but he can be very rude and arrogant if you try to talk to him one on one. He was easily my least favorite professor in the psychology department.
I loved Psychology in high school but once I took 202 with him it made me hate it. If you are a super great reader it might come easy to you because everything comes out of the textbook. Take psychology with any other teacher or at LBCC, way better and way easier!
Personally, I think Berneiri is misunderstood. He told us first class that he isn't here to preach the textbook, and that if you want that he isn't the teacher for you. He makes things certain topics interesting and does his best to make you think deeper. He takes some getting used to, but you'll love him.
This class was a bit challenging for me. I'm naturally not very great at memorization, so I knew hands down this was going to be a bit tricky. That being said, Berneiri is an okay teacher. He didn't attend a couple of classes, and the class was instead taught by a TA. He has chapter quiz's every Friday which were challenging.
Learning for this class is entirely out of the textbook, Bernier doesn't lecture on exam material. There are weekly reading quizzes every Friday. Very vague and unclear about what he expects you to know out of the readings, no study guide or practice tests. Exams are doable but very difficult. Take advantage of extra credit, you'll need it.
His lectures are not mandatory , however, every Friday for the first ten minutes of class he gives a quiz on that weeks chapter. Sometimes the quizzes are easy and other times they super detail oriented. Which is why reading the text book and reviewing it will really boost your grades on the quizzes. Be prepared to study alot for the mid term
Dr. B's a hard professor. Don't go in expecting an A. Makes you read the textbook. Assigns hours of homework weekly. Grades extremely harshly but curves generously; his tests are soul crushing. Moderately funny, always willing to help if you ask. Very intelligent. You will learn more in his class than with any other professor. Guaranteed.
He have a quiz every Friday for each chapter. Also, his lectures are usually behind so you have to study and read the chapter on your own before taking the quiz. There is also no point in going to lecture when you already know the material from the book. The class depends on your quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final.
Entire grade was determined by three exams and a paper. Lecture is pointless as he intentionally never covers all if the material in class. First day of class, told us "I would rather you stay home and read the textbook than show up to class and solely attend lecture". If you want an A, don't waste your time going class.
If there's one thing you do in this class, make sure you read the textbook. Lectures and notes don't matter. Read the textbook, thats what 99% of test material is on. He makes it clear that he wants students to read the textbook.
Really interesting class. Professor is very blunt but in a good way. You can skip all the class you want and still get an A; tests are entirely based on the textbook readings. He gave us a lot of opportunities for extra credit (but many of them were during lectures) and there were no homework assignments. Great class overall.
He's a really great professor that makes you think and actively engage. Additionally he's funny and shares interesting stories and facts too. The class was most discussion base with him facilitating the direction of the topic. Learned a lot from the psychology articles and actually learned to understand them through the discussion.
Dr. Bernieri is a wonderful lecturer but it is fairly advanced lecture material. I found it difficult because there are only a few assignments that you get graded on and if you miss out on just one point your graded drops. I would only recommend to students that are highly motivated and are already well versed in psychology.
He's the best. He encourages learning instead of testing you on trivial things, he makes sure you're using the course practically. He doesn't require much work, basically, just wants you to be interested in learning
