He is very good teacher. I had him last semster and he was lot of fun. Talkin about his band and he wanted to learn sign languages from me!! He helped me fwe times in lab when I was not sure about my experiment! He's a great teacher I would recommend to take him cuz he very open and willing to make things easier and practice on exercrises too as well!! He's worth it!

Dr. Calvagna's tests are somewhat difficult, but if you study, you should do fine. He makes chemistry interesting and fun.

I was really nervous about taking a chemistry class online. Especially since I never had chemistry in highschool. Mr. Calvagna is a very attentive teacher, encouraging and helpful. I am so glad I took this class from him.

Great teacher! Highly recommend. Makes it fun and interesting, gives you notes online, does examples, experiments, etc. Very easy to understand. If you fail his class, it's your own fault!

he goes over the notes and if you ask ?s he doesnt really answer but leads to the answer in a way that you still have no clue what the answer is. labs are boring! tests are not too hard. you kinda gotta teach yourself a little bit to understand things easier for yourself! i would highly recommend Dean or McHugh!!

I had him for Inorganic, which is very boring to me, but he did a good job teaching the material. He really knows his stuff and does lots of example problems. He does use PowerPoint though, which is annoying, but if you pay attention you're fine.

Always willing to help! I took a year of high school chemistry before this class and learned nothing! Within the first two weeks of class, he taught me everything that my high school couldn't do in a full year. he's a fabulous professor that actually tries to put his students before himself.

I took chem 100 two other times...and the other teacher taugh the same.Frank did it to were I could understand it. He helped alot over the internet with his power points (that he himself made up not the book writers) and even made a study session one time. I would say take his class if you want to actually want to understand chemistry. I know i did

at the begining of class he seemed very helpful but as the semster went on he seemed agitated when i asked questions. he acted as if he was giving up on our class.

At first, he seemed very helpful. Then by the time the second test was handed back graded, it seemed like he was giving up on us all. When asked questions, doesn't really explain in our terms, he explains in his terms which are kind of confusing. Not very organized. Goes way too fast on lectures.

best chemistry teacher EVER..I love this man. i would highly recommend him, especially if you are lacking in chem confidence. he's very friendly, does demos in class, and is incredibly receptive to how the class is doing&how fast he should go. explains everything clearly, lets class out early and is a nice guy, great chem teacher

OK so the class was intersting. I looked forward to attending class, because he hasa sense of humor and is outgoing. You must attend the lectures. The class is very hard though. I attended all the lectures and got perfect scores on all the labs. That did not do anything though, because I still got a C. He is not very helpful. Don't take him!

The previous entry must have been the student that brought in cookies last semester! Yeah hes nice but dont ask ?'s- his response is how can you not get this? sort of a self taught course, lots of internet usage. if you grin and bear it you'll get through it.

I found Dr. C to be extremely willing to explain a topic that was not understood. Yes, his lectures were fast and it helped to have the slides from his powerpoint printed first, but when you got to the test there were absolutely NO surprises. The grading was fair and he makes class fun. I would, mos def, take one of his courses again.

Dr C is probably the only Chem teacher at RVC who I could even learn from! Anything you're having trouble with he'll find help and posts it on ednet or answers questions there. You have to work for your grade but grow up! This is college.

I personally do not like chemistry but because he has a sense of humor it was fun. I got a tutor and he helped explain somethings because Mr. C goes kinda fast in the lectures.. overall i really liked him and would recommend him to my friends

I hated this class! I took CHM in high school and loved it but Calvagna makes it so hard and boring! Calvagna teaches the class as if you already know all the terms and when you ask him a question he's super short and does not really answer the question. And he's horrible in labs, i was always so confused. I ended up dropping the class.

Dr C was a great professor!! If you attend all classes, labs and printout the power points and worksheets, you will be able to follow along just fine. He is on top of his stuff, and goes quickly, but if you have a question, stop him and ask, he WILL answer and help you out. Willing to stay and help out too! I suggest him 100% to all!! FUNNY too!

Dr.C explains things in an easy to understand way. You will have to do the reading to keep up, but if you are even a halfway decent student, you should do fine.

Mr Calvagna is a miserable teacher. This is supposed to be an INTRO class so when I asked questions he was kind of belittling like I was supposed to know the info already. So be prepared for his short crabby attitude! I dropped. I don't deserve that kind of treatment!

Dr. Calvagna is a really great teacher. He has a good balance between professionalism and casual that allows for relaxed but very informative learning. He takes his class seriously, as you should, too. Do not expect to just show up and earn an A. You will need to study, but his lectures are very well put together and crystal clear. Recommended!

I was not pleased with this teacher at all. He honestly expects you to remember EVERYTHING from high school chemistry and if you are like most students, it's been a few years since you have taken it. He always left us in the room alone during labs too so if you needed help you had to find him. He is also a poor communicator. I do not recommend.

If you make the effort to prepare for class (read your textbook), you'll do fine. But don't expect to show up and ask questions that reveal how little you've studied and have him walk you through it. And, always attend the study session before the tests. Very helpful!

This guy is pretty awesome. Although I'm not the best on attendance I WANTED to come to his class. He knows his stuff and will help you if you've made an effort to do the work. I think he's pretty hot for a teacher too, nice pic ;)

I have only taken HS Chem. and wanted a refresher b4 going onto the next level and he is great! He knows what he is doing and makes sure that all of the students are understanding what is going on in class or in lab. Most of all he has fun while doing there fore the students have fun learning the material.

Great teacher with a nice sense on humor and a true passion for what he dose. He makes class interesting and always takes the time that students need to answer questions. I would recommend him for any chemistry class. I only wish that he taught above Chem 110.

He is very helpful! I haven't taken Chemistry in over 15 years, and he made it very easy to understand. I was very impressed with how quickly he made our whole class pick up on the material. I didn't have to study a lot, just pay attention in class. He is extremely helpful if you have questions too!

Wonderful teacher. I was really worried before because I saw some bad reviews on here but he was great at explaining everything. The labs are confusing but if you just do them he gives you 100% on them.

Very organized, thorough, and knowledgeable. He has a lot of patience and will take the time to explain any concepts. Quizzes and tests are reflective of the material presented in class. Attend all classes and lectures and this will be a rewarding course. I would definitely take a class with Professor Calvagna again.

I really liked Dr. Calvagna. He is good at explaining tough concepts and believe me you will understand chemistry a lot better after taking him. He is extremely helpful and I would definitely take him again in the future.

Dr. C is a great professor. He is very helpful. Everything he expects from you is taught in class. There were never any surprises when test time came. I would definitely take a class with him again. He goes at the pace the class sets up. If you aren't sure about something, ASK! He has a passion for what he does and it shows.

Dr.C was the best teacher I ever had. Honestly, it was my first semester at RVC and I was a horrible chem student back in high school. Dr.C helped me to believe in myself and to work hard throughout class and life. I have not had a teacher like him since. You can really tell teaching and chemistry are his passion.

He really has such a passion for chem. Maybe it was because we were his first 130 class in a long time, but i felt like he was very unclear with his lectures. Some of the stuff he would skip over because he expects us to know really hurts you because he moves really fast. Very nice guy though

One of my favorite teachers at Rock Valley College. 120 is tough, but he is clear and you have to study. It is College and all. I would recommend.

Best teacher i've ever had! Took his CHM 99 class and CHM 120! He does expect you to do have a fair understanding before jumping into the lectures the day of class and his test are very intense and take a lot of application and thought! Very nice person and teacher over all! So glad I had the chance to take two of his classes!

Amazing teacher, loves what he does, and will give you all the tools you need to succeed. Listen to what he tells you to pay attention to and believe him when he tells you that you already know most of this stuff. You'll do amazing as long as you study and do the work.

Has TONS of information for you on EAGLE. He's recorded several lectures, in case you missed something. As long as you put in the time, you'll pass with a good grade. GREAT teacher!

Class was well organized with lots of information on Eagle and the calendar. There is a lab every week. There were online LearnSmarts for my class. Labs are easy. Study for tests. The hardest part of this class for me was just getting the motivation to study before tests. This teacher is usually friendly with a smidgen of grump. Very helpful.

I was really nervous to take chemistry, never really liked science in general. But honestly I'm so glad I had to chnace to take him. He's a really down to earth guy, and made me actually understand and like chemistry. It's not easy, but with 4 other classes I still managed a good grade. Take him!

Dr. C is a cool professor. He's very knowledgeable and will explain if your confused. His online lectures were useful. He is sometimes unclear on lab days and expects the class to know where to find the supplies and what to do, so read the lab procedure ahead of time. His tests are pretty short so make sure you double check your answers.

If you haven't taken chemistry recently I recommended taking the 99 class before the 110 class. He explains things very well and won't move on until you understand it! Very nice! Take him!

Prof Calvagna was great! I was a little nervous taking Chemistry at first, but he really breaks it down so it is easier to understand. He has videos on almost all of his lectures so you can review before a test. Applying the labs to your lectures and doing the problems out of the book will help you get an A on his exams. Highly recommend!

I took the hybrid class, make sure to do the homework and read the chapters. He is easy to reach through e-mail to help out. He definitely is really fair with the grading.

Does a great job of simplifying and explaining concepts . He does quite a few in class demos which are awesome. Attendance isn't graded. All lectures and powerpoints are online, although I highly recommend going to class because he is the type of professor who you can have fun and joke around with. Four exams and online homework for each chapter

AMAZING professor! DrC makes chemistry fun and easy and I look forward to going to class now. If you appreciate an outgoing personality and humor, he is the guy for you. He is great at breaking things down to a level that is easy to understand. He is fantastic and I hope to take ALL my chemistry classes with him.

Dr. C is a great teacher. The course itself was challenging, but Dr. C will go the extra mile to help his students learn and grow. He even tapes his lectures and posts them on Rock Valley's online learning site for people who missed class or need a refresher. He's a great person and he's also super engaging during lectures.

Took the hybrid class so only went to campus for the labs but the online portion was set up very well. He has recorded some of his lectures that you can view on eagle so it still feels like you are getting the lecture portion of the class. Only thing I didn't like was he wasn't very helpful at labs at all. Left students to fend for themselves.

This is one of the few classes i have taken where I actually felt like I was learning something and not just going through the motions with the usual "busy work" assigned by most teachers. Dr. Calvagna is a great teacher and makes it easy to learn. One of the best teachers ive had.

He's really funny and he shares cool stories that make class enjoyable. I really like that he posts video lectures, practice quizzes, and worksheets that you can use for extra practice at home. His lectures also follow the textbook so if you miss anything that was said in class you can always read from your textbook and catch up that way.

I'm not a fan of Chemistry, but he made it really interesting and kept the class intrigued during lectures. If you do the work that's assigned, take good notes, and study you'll pass. He's an easy grader and is more than helpful if you have questions. I wish I could have him for more science classes!

He takes the boring mundane textbook reading and relates it to normal meaning. Made it very easy to keep up and gave plenty for examples of problems and would make sure there were no problems before moving on. Kept class exciting and made me want to actually go to this class.

Even though I had no science education background when started this class, Dr. C made the lecture super fun and relatable. He explains thoroughly and gives lots of examples. I became liking this class so much because of him! He is my favorite professor in Rock Valley College. I am definitely taking his class again!

Dr. C is honestly one of the best professors I have had at RVC. He does a very well job at explaining during lecture and is very clear about what he expects during the labs. Also, he responds to emails VERY quickly. I would recommend taking Dr. C for any Chemistry class!The textbook was not used very much but I would recommend using it for practice

He gave very good lectures and all his lectures and extra modules/ study resources were available on Eagle. His Labs were super easy and his quizzes and tests were pretty straight forward. By going to class, doing the labs and the sapling hw, its an easy B. He was also very approable and tried to make funny jokes during lectures.

Professor Calvagna is an amazing teacher! He always makes sure everyone is following his lessons and is very clear about what he expects. His tests and assignments are straightforward and he posts all his lectures online so you can go back and watch if you're struggling with a concept. highly highly recommend
