This guy is so unclear, tons of people ended up dropping his class because he confuses YOU and himself!
He will give you easy marks for homeworks and labs. But his exams are hard.
He solved examples halfway and assumed you could do the rest on your own which is usual in upper division physics but really confusing and unhelpful to beginners.
He is a new teacher, and is improving each quarter. His teaching style is improving, but his tests continue to be harder than others, so I have heard. Overall, I would suggest him as a physics teacher.
though the tests are not easy but he is so kind and doesn't feel like to make your grade down. :)
Cascarano teaches very well. Makes difficult concepts clear. He makes boring physics classes fun because of his amazing experiments and questions...I actually anticipate his class everyday, as it really helps a lot in my understanding!Highly recommended
i enjoyed his class. tests are hard but really reasonable about grading and very generous w/ partial credit. just show ALL your work and you'll do fine. dont slack off in his class because he moves through the material fast. overall i would recommend him
He is a very good teacher and a very nice guy. His class is interesting and some experiments are really amazing. He holds many office hours and helps students as much as he can. Highly recommend.
A great physics teacher. You can feel his enthusiasm towards physics. His class is interesting and full of lauther. There are a lot of amazing experiments and demonstrations. He teaches well and he is very helpful. Tests are not easy but reasonable. Highly recommended!!

He was one of the best teachers i've ever had. He really cares about students and does his best to help you and raise your grade. I definitely recommend him. "GOOD LUCK FRANK"
Excellent teacher! He is very caring. His lectures are exciting. His exams are hard and long, but his grading is very fair (only cares about whether you understand the concept, does not weight much on the result).
Mr. C is the best physics instructor that i have ever seen. Grades fairly, He remembers your name, really nice Instructor, and more importantly His Enthusiastic toward Physics! really had to regret that i have to drop the class due to personal life problem. Take him and u wont regret it!
great instructor, very considerate, cares for his students, good teaching style
ok his background: UCDavis- Graduate, UCSD Ph.D. cool guy. tough looking, awesome teacher. lots of demonstrations! you surely wouldn't want to miss his class!
This guy looks serious, but he is EXTREMELY helpful. Tests are kinda hard, but he curves nicely and grades really fair. Just show him that you are trying your best and he will give you tons of extra credit. His in-class demonstrations are totally awesome, make you love physics more. I strongly recommend this teacher to everyone.
Simply put he is very fair!!! He is an amazing teacher and has a great personality! Thats all you would want in a teacher!
I would highly recommend him. Since he started teaching this class recently, his labs are a bit disorganized. However, his tests are hard.
ok... this professor is the easiest professor compared if u take the class at ucsd. hes really good at teaching! A+++ i would recommend more practice problem book like ISBN:0-07-021234-1 . UCSD ROCKS!
He's really cool. so much fun in class =)
mr.cascarano is a great teacher. his demos in class are so entertaining and fun. he is really good at explaining things annd being patient untill you understand. i looked forward to going to his class each day. he's a great teacher and an overall nice guy.
to put it simply, i learned nothing from him. like others said, easy to get A(maybe), which means you get nothing from him. if you are lazy and don't have motivation to study, he might be ok teacher. but i don' recommend you to take his class.
this guy doesn't know how to teach. this is a kind of selfstudying class. many students have dropped becaue his lecture is not worh for paying attention to.
i dont think you can easily get an A in this class unless you understand the concepts. although his quiz can be really easy, his exams are conceptual. it's true that sometimes you should just go ahead and read your textbook.. but hey, he's trying to help. ask questions if you dont understand. he's a nice guy.. love him!
Not a very easy teacher, but a very helpful one.
I was terrified to take Physics because it's not my strong subject, but I'm no longer intimidated. It is not an easy subject, but Frank is a fair teacher and I got B's both quarters. If you are a good student, you've got nothing to worry about.
Professor Cascarano is a very very good Phys teacher. His lecture is clear and very helpful. He is very nice to help us. He is really help you to learn the Phys. He's the best two phys teacher in the Foothill(the other one is David Marasco)!
Mr Cascarano is the bestttt teacher ever... if you wanna learn physics, and not just the formulas.. he's just for you. his quizzes covers the chapter well.. and he really cares about you doing well in the class. NO OTHER PHYSICS TEACHER CAN BEAT HIM
very nice as a person. very helpful. and also, his kids are so cute.
very friendly teacher! makes physics fun with all the demos and "clicker" activities. gives lots of hw and quizzes every class. quizzes are easy if you do the hw cause it is the hw probs. hw not collected but a must in order to do well in his class. he is easier and more personable than marasco but it is harder to get better grade in cascarano
This class is a hard class because of the material. Mr. Cacarano is a great teacher- he explains clearly and answers tons of questions. The tests are difficult, but if you do the homework and attend all lectures with questions you will do fine. He always trys to help the students in and out of class, I am truly impressed.
He makes physics fun for students, his main goal is for you to see physics in the real world. He is wounrefull person and willing to accoumadate you if you miss lab or somthing like that. The quizes and tests are hard but doable if study a lot, and he curves also so to gat A is possible.
Great teacher. Love his experiments and his jokes. Learn ur physics from him!
Frank is a good teacher who cares about his students. He covers the concepts behind the problems thoroughly in class, but we rarely solved any of the book problems in lecture. The exams reflect the same, he tests equally on concepts (worksheets from lectures) and problems (usually not terribly difficult). Not easy, but fair.
Cascarano is a very good teacher, I think he was newish to teaching when I took 4A with him, but he is a good guy. He'd have trouble explaining some of my harder questions, but as far as the material we had to know, he was really good. Between him and Marasco the Foothill physics department has some gems.
IN CLASS EXPERIMENTS ARE FUN BUT HE DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT VERY CLEARLY. NOT RECCOMENDED, TAKE MARASCO INSTEAD !
Great professor, extrememly approachable- and easy to talk to, and fair too... You can't ask for anything more in a physics teacher really.
he is a perfect man! he doesnt teach perfect but it is good! his exams are not easy at all! always some kind of wired questions in the exam! he cares about his student! to get a good grade u need to work really hard! very tough homework problems! but quizzes are easy!I love the experiment he usually does in the class they are really fun and helpful
Very nice professor. Easy exams. He really cares about his students. I wish he would teach 4C too. Take me. Much easier than marasco.
Summary of Prof. 1.Cannot teach, he makes many mistakes just on his calculations and just B.S. yanks to the correct answer, screws you up for tests. 2.Doesn't curve tests, my class got 1xA, 2xB, 1xC, and the rest were Ds/Fs for Phys 4B Midterm-1. 3. You can study day and night for this class and still get a C or lower. Not worth it, hurts your gpa.
Since day 1, I thought he was going to be one of the best teachers I'd ever had. Not so easy though. So far, the two quizzes have been fair, but the midterm was killer. 3A's & 1B out of about 40 students. As far as I know, 1 of the A's doesn't count cuz he claims to not study and still hasn't touched the book. No curve, either.
DO NOT TAKE FOR 4B! Only 1 A, 3B and 1C- on the first midterm, the rest all failed (serious). DOES NOT CURVE, does not care if students pass no matter how bad the overall class grade is. Take Marasco instead, he curves even if his test is harder and explains things better. I heard only 8-10 people barely pass his class every qtr.
I literally failed the first midterm along with 50% of the class. He bent over backwards to make sure not only we got the grades we wanted but that we understood the material. I feel extremely confident going into Phys 4B. DO ALL OF THE HOMEWORK AND *READ* BEFORE CLASS.
Frank is a good teacher. His tests are hard, but he gives plenty of chances for you to redeem yourself throughout the quarter.
His tests are hard, but he gives a lot of partial credit. He is the most responsible physics teacher in Foothill, he spends time for online office hour. Class are always interesting. Highly recommend him!!
Hi! Nice guy and good teacher but what's up with those tests!? Its always stuff that wasn't covered in homework or lectures. Be careful he makes it tough on people who don't have a million hours a day to spend studying physics. I'd have done ok had I seen questions like that before but they are always some kinda things that weren't covered at all.
Great teacher. Taking his class was the best decision I ever made. Never had seen anyone more passionate about his work. He is the most helpful teacher. I started with a C and with his help I ended up with an A. If you need help, he is there for you. Just work hard. Very funny and classes are full of energy.B/c of him, physics is my fave subject now
He is a GREAT teacher.Never had seen anyone more passionate about his work. He is the most helpful teacher. I started with a C and with his help I ended up with an A. If you need help, he is there for you. Just work hard. Very funny and classes are full of energy.B/c of him, physics is my fave subject now
I love him! Very passionate and knowledgeable, knows how to solve every problem. The tests are very challenging and require a lot of practice, but overall he will help you get through the class if you show you're putting in the effort and truly care.
After taking this class it is easy to tell which reviews are genuine and which are a load. Ex the two left on 3/05, 3 weeks before the final. Frank is a very nice guy, but the most passionless and uninspiring teacher. No real lecture, ever, all workbook. If you have questions, good luck. If you are taking 4B to actually learn the material, avoid!
He is master of 4B and 4A. But he is also very good with 4C. I enjoyed the class very much as he makes it very interesting
He is AWESOME. The best prof you can find. Very clear, very helpful and engaging. He is the best at foothill to take physics with, although he isn't very easy but he makes it so interesting that all you want to study is physics. :)
He is a very good teacher but the problem is that physics is a tough subject. His exams are really hard. If u want an easy teacher he is not the one you are looking for.
He is a very nice guy and very smart. The problem is that he gives simple examples in class that are easy to understand, then the homework/test questions are harder. I recommend doing ALL of the homework for this class. I like this professor but you need to study hard for the class!
Really good teacher! Always makes funny jokes and interesting experiments. You will definitely like physics with him. He is a pretty good grader if you show that you really know physics. The quizes and midderms were easy, but the final vas pretty hard. But he is not taking away a lot of points. Take him!
Although he is funny and smart He is really hard and hard to get a.
He is hard.
The quizzes are hard and exams are terrible ! Never choose him again!
I have taken his other classes before. But I think he becomes harder this year. the exams are so hard and different from homework.
He is funny and helpful, yet the homework is hard and different from exams The final is super hard and I cannot finish it. The score hurt my GPA! If you want good grade, don't choose him!
The class is interesting and I learn a lot but I think i will get a bad grade. The experiments are unclear and the exams are so hard. Heis nice but not for me.
I dont know why he becomes hard this year. Pass his class is easy but you can't get a good grade. Just do homework is not enough. I think the final is too hard. I took his class before but I think heis different now.
He is a nice man and I like his class. I do every experiments and homework. I don't know why I got so bad score on exams. I will pass this class but cannot get a good score.
Exams are difficult to understand and this class is hard. Never choose him again!!!
it's hard to get an A because the exams are hard and the scores of experiments and quizes are not enough. the homework is helpful but it's different from literature and exams.
I think he is good. his class is interesting and he helps me a lot. however, a few people can get A on his class. i worked hard and just got a b-. I think the final is too hard and it hurt my GPA.
i know 4c is not easy and i worked hard. i like him very much and his class is amazing. but the score is not very good.
well, his class is interesting but a few people can get A even no one. if you wanna learn more, choose him. if you like high GPA, i dont recommend him.
he is nice but too hard. I got B- on his 4b class and I think I work hard. his homework is easy but exams are difficult. if you wanna get a high score, don't recommend him.
yes, he is super hard. he is nice and helpful but exams are super hard. final is difficult and i didn't finished! won't choose him again
Final was difficult!!! i cant believe it!
Seriously this guy has made my all time worst professor list. 5% off per wrong hw answer entry on the computer are you kidding me. Lectures are useless and jokes beyond lame
...And God said, "Let there be light," but then Cascarano came and there was no light.Basically, Frank is a great instructor but not for everyone.
Frank is by far my favorite professor at foothill. His lectures are helpful and he's a really cool/funny guy. His class is difficult, but that's only because physics is a very difficult subject. His test are fair and you end the class with the grade you deserve.
If you can self-study then take him! Otherwise, this guy is not helpful for you. He basically does not lecture in class. He expects you to know all the stuff before hand and come to class ready. He may be knowledgeable but he is not a good teacher in my opinion. I did not learn anything from him, but mostly by myself. I regretted taking his class!
very lame class, not much lecturing, expects you to study ahead of class and just work on problems during class. more than half the class dropped and even less people showed up for the final
This class is kind of high paced. He covers a lot of examples in class during lecture. He is decent at explaining things, and he is very helpful. He drops a midterm grade if your final is higher. Honestly, if you study the book problems and attend lecture, then you will do fine in this class. BUT YOU HAVE TO PUT THE 'WORK' IN. Will take again.
This professor's lectures are terrible because you cannot learn from his mumbo jumbo. All he does are interesting demonstrations but his teaching style is very vague and his exams are extremely hard and almost nobody got A's
Really great teacher. He explains really difficult concepts very very clearly. He breaks things down in a way that is easy to follow, especially for people that aren't good with this kind of stuff. He cares about his students and their progress. Tests aren't written to be super evil. I don't think I would have passed this class without him.
His class is straightforward. There is no homework - just labs, exams and the final. He uses the point system. He's a nice person and likes to do demonstrations, but his lectures aren't that helpful (they're just examples that he works does at lightning speed). A lot of people had to self-study and stopped attending class.
This was probably my most boring course I've ever taken at Foothill. Not sure if it was Cascarano's fault, but he certainly doesn't help. Lectures very dull, one sided (he talks, you listen).
Frank is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's extremely patient, has great lectures that focus on both theory and practice, and is always available to help. If you're having trouble in his class, go to his office hours! He's super helpful and you'll see how awesome of a person he is. Physics is tough, but Frank is always there to help.
There wasn't much homework other than prelabs and practicing on your own. Cascarano is a great professor, he brings in props to really demonstrate difficult concepts which makes it easier to understand. Really helpful and enthusiastic professor would recommend.
I LOVE FRANK. Greatest prof I ever had. Explains things so clearly in a way other prof like Fors makes boring! He made me fall in love with Physics. He bring in COOL DEMOS, so you can see the physics in action. You really need to make sure you understand the concepts for the exams. You need to do ALL hw, & ask 4 help if needed. He's very helpful.
First off, GREAT PROFESSOR. The demos are excellent and is extremely helpful and crucial to truly add another depth of knowledge to your learning. Almost every lecture, professor Cascarano brings in a very cool demo which demonstrates a physics concept. Would definitely recommend
dont know why his scores are low. probably because physics is a hard subject. It isn't his fault. He does a great job for the most part and you can tell he cares a lot about teaching. Tests are hard but you must be willing to study to be a student of physics. he is a model professor who clearly does his part. not good for lab though. expects a lot.
Frank is very nice, very good at explaining ideas conceptually, and does great demos. Unfortunately, he doesnt do a great job of explaining the problems that involve calculus, and his labs arent very good. The labs were very results-oriented and often way ahead of lecture, so they were confusing and not helpful. Overall, I still learned a lot.
Here's the 3 things I learned in Frank's class: 1) Never expect him to complete an example and actually give you an answer. 2) What can reach in from a distance? Gravity! Yay! 3) It's just some simple algebra from there! In all seriousness, I was extremely frustrated by Frank's lack of actual teaching. Anything I learned was from the book.
He is a very nice professor but you will give up with his lecture. He didn't do well to organize his note just grab a problem to solve it. Otherwise, his inclass experiments are interesting but not that helpful for your quizzes. Those quizzes and final are More Than You Imagine. All of your reviews are not that mach with your problems! Be careful!
Used Berkeley tests to study for the exam. Still did not do well on final... Class is difficult. He takes of points for simple things on quizzes. Bombed quizzes but did well on tests but failed the final.
Hes always willing to help so dont be afraid to ask. Didnt do well on the midterms(Cs/Ds) but still feel like I learned a lot in the class. Does a lot of interesting experiments! Only 4 midterms and final in your grade so work hard. And openstax is useless so use last years txtbk and ask him for hw problems from there
Cascarano is a terrible teacher who doesn't care about his students. He's happy to fail you even if you put in all the effort. There's no synergy between the lab, hw, tests. Your whole grade rests on the tests, 0 credit for hw and lab is only a measly 10%. He's way too busy drinking whisky and doing the physics show to help his students.
Frank is a fantastic professor, but the class is incredibly hard. However, he's always available in office hours and by appointment if you need his help. He's very reasonable and accommodating, you just have to actually ask instead of having everything handed to you. Study your exams, practice problems, and conceptual worksheets, you will pass.
His exams have NOTHING to do with what was learned in class. Avoid him at all costs!
Half the class dropped. His exams are beyond insane. STAY AWAY
Wish his class wasn't so hard and tough. GPA got ruined
Honestly, you will be easy to get an "A" in this classes, the stuff in his midterms is pretty easy, but you need to be careful in the tests because it is easy to lose your points when you have a little mistake. Anyway, you will get a good grade if you be careful in his midterms.
Tests hard but not punitively so. Covers easy material in class and then slaughters you on the exams, so do practice problems beyond the ones he assigns. I personally like Openstax but there are a number of other good resources that are also available (prof. Eduardo Luna at De Anza has a lot of good review material). Also I bombed the class :)
He's a good explainer, but I felt like he didn't really go over difficult problems in class. Always open towards questions and does fun little demonstrations. You really do need to study outside of class, but that's expected for physics. Be careful on tests, small mistakes can really hurt your score.
Don't fall behind! It is very difficult to recover as his class moves at a fast pace. He gives you lots of resources to learn the material in depth (beyond what is covered in class); be sure to use them extensively before taking his tests. His tests tend to be conceptual so a clear understanding of the material is essential. Tough but fair!
I like his class because the exam questions are interesting and relatively challenging compared to other STEM classes I had taken so far. He is very approachable, and interesting demonstration during the class. The lecture is clear.
His exam are so crazy compare to the in lecture examples. Reading and HW assigned on openStax, but its a bad textbook and his approaches differ from the textbook, so it gets confusing. Im a 4.0 ( probably not after this) student with a really strong math background and I study so hard, but I cannot for my life ace his crazy exams. GPA Killer :(
I had a lot of fun in PHYS 4B. Lectures were clear and demonstrations were interesting. Prof Cascarano is very patient and knowledgeable. He wants you to succeed, but you must put in the work! Physics will be a difficult class, regardless of the instructor you take.
Frank is a good teacher. The only issue I had was that the exams problems were more challenging than the recommended problems from the University Physics textbook. I did the recommended problems yet struggled on exams. Maybe it would help to do problems from the text "Physics for Scientists and Engineers" they are closer in difficulty to the exams.
Taking this class made me have a lot of respect for physics. I'm glad I had Prof. Cascarano as a teacher because he does a good job of explaining physics concepts. He gives demonstrations and provides examples to help you understand how the material we covered is used in the real world. In general, he seems passionate about physics and teaching.
Clear teaching, most of the grade is from exams but you do get 1 exam drop. Lots of office hours. Exams won't be too difficult if you just took advantage of the resources he provides. He gave my class 10 points extra credit for writing a summary on a book, so definitely do that. (total points 600, 500 with exam drop)
Online class with him is just not it. Trust me don't take physics with him unless you're forced to. Your whole grade is based on 5 tests and the questions on the tests are just way above the level he bothers to teach in class. Also there was 0 feedback from his side and he didn't even bother trying to go in depth in class.
He literally teaches the most basic concepts during lectures and you think you understand it but then he gives the hardest questions on the exam that were absolutely nothing like the difficulty he showed during lectures. I was disappointed with the way my experience played out. I was looking forward to this class because of all the previous ratings
Hes an awesome professor, and he makes physics a fun subject to learn. Just make sure to understand all the class examples and the concepts properly and youll be able to crack his exams fairly. Awesome Lectures. Take advantage of his office hours, and itll help a ton though youll need to gather your own extra study resources to end with an A.
You need to read, watch the pre-recorded lectures, attend his problem solving discussions, and attempt more difficult problems outside of class to do well on his exams. His exams are difficult, and really test your knowledge of the subject beyond his instruction. He explains concepts well, but in order to pass you need to do alot of problems solo.
Frank is amazing prof and he's considerate. The only issue I had was that the exam problems were more challenging than the recommended problems from the textbook he used. I did all the recommended problems yet struggled on exams. However, I would say He prepares you to transfer to a 4-year institution and you can adapt to the hardness level there
Frank is my favorite STEM professor at Foothill. Clear lecture, good feedback, and very accessible outside of class. And yes, his tests are hard but if you really understand the stuff then you'll be fine. Also he gives you a formula sheet and records his lectures, unlike others at foothill. Frank's a gem and I wish more professor were like him.
He's one of the best Professors in Foothill for sure. His lectures are amazing, and he gives extra credit at the start of every quarter. He puts effort into his teachings, and if you actually watch his lectures and put effort, you'll do great!
His lectures are so fun! He puts in real life examples into the lecture, which made the classes really interesting, and never boring. It was easy to understand his lectures, but make sure to pay attention!
Cascarano is simply amazing. However, my only complain was that he doesn't tell you his arm workout. If anyones asks let me know.
Frank is a great physics mind. He truly understands how to tie what we're learning to the real world. That said, be ready to practice a ton if you are taking his 4A-4C series of classes. He grades mostly through tests, and unless you come prepared, you will not have enough time to finish the tests. Great professor, just hard.
Pay attention to this man, and attend his office hour/lectures - you won't regret it. With the help of Cascarano's bulging arms, you will crush the problems into submission.
Your grade will be mostly determined by tests and final. Go to his lectures, understand the concepts, practice homework problems to do well in his class. He curves at the end of the quarter and also gives a bit of extra credit at the start of the quarter. Definitely recommend him.
Prof. C is very caring and accommodating, but this class will destroy your GPA if you aren't good at math and science. Avoid this class if you are looking to transfer! His exams are much harder than what he teaches/what's on the practice tests. He has a 6 point EC assignment, but it doesn't make much difference to your grade. Great guy, hard class.
Not a physics major but, first time I enjoyed taking a physics class. Although some may see it as challenging and intima dating, it really wasn't it was all in our head. This class was a true physics foundation for my future in electrical engineering. Great teacher, best physics I have had over 4 different teachers.
This guy is the GOAT. There is obviously a decent amount of work required, but he explains concepts well and gives reasonable exam questions with a lot of time. Tbh the hardest part of exams was the geometry to set up the integrals rather than the actual physics. Best CC STEM professor I had.
For an A, you will need to put in the effort (I think I spent like two hours everyday), but it was well worth it. I would say watching his lectures will help you more than anything to succeed in his class. Stick to his lectures!! Professor Cascarano is a really memorable teacher. This professor reminded me of why I want to major in STEM.
Frank is a solid choice for a physics class. While his exams are indeed much harder than his lecture examples or homework (which are not required/graded), you'll get the hang of it once you take the first test. He is surprisingly forgiving in his grading too. Try to go to his office hours if you can--it was really helpful!
Amazing professor! Clear lectures and helpful during office hours. Your grade is pretty much determined by your exams and finals (4 exams, lowest 1 dropped, and 1 final), with a small part of your lab grade and a bit extra credit from a short book report. Exams aren't easy but not crazy, and grading is quite forgiving. Best prof at CC truly!
I was excited to take his class since I saw his Physics Show with my family as an 8th grader, but he lectured so fast and taught the most basic concepts in class, yet his test questions were so hard and nothing like the difficulty he showed in class. It got so bad I dropped his class and he's the reason why I changed my Engineering major to Math.
Amazing professor, makes Physics very enjoyable with his attitude and teaching style, but grading is almost entirely reliant on complicated exams that require a deep understanding of the material. If you're a Physics or Engineering major, stick with him. If you're like me and are just taking it for credits, you may have to consider someone else.
He lectures so fast and teaches the most basic concepts in class, but he gives the hardest questions on the tests that are absolutely nothing like the difficulty he shows in class. It got so bad I dropped his class before the midway point of the quarter.
Caring, organized, passionate. Flipped classroom style, so make sure you come to class prepared. Even if you're taking physics to fulfil a requirement, and never had a passion for it, you will have a great time. A lot of teachers on RMP receive a lower score because their classes are not easy A's. Don't let it scare you from missing out on a gem!
Frank's class is HARD. Flipped classroom style and exams every other week. Your grade is made up of 4 exams and 1 final. The exams only have 3-4 questions so if you miss one, you're in pretty bad shape. Although he's though, he's fair. He gave opportunities to have exam 1 be replaced by exam 2 and the final also replaces your lowest score
My grade is this low because I was lazy for most of the quarter. Thankfully, Frank gives you many breaks with exam drops and is very generous with his time. Only knock would be that the graded homework is nothing compared to the exams, but if you go to the study sessions you'll be fine and have a good idea of the exam content. Just a great guy tbh.
He teaches the most basic things during lectures but his exams are crazy hard and the questions are NOTHING like the examples we did in class. Only take his class if you want your GPA to go south dramatically and quickly. I'm so glad I dropped his class halfway through the quarter.
If you do not have a good Physics background do not take his class. He literally teaches the most basic concepts and class and the questions on his tests are so hard because they are nothing like the class examples. He is the reason why I changed my major from Engineering to Math.
Hard class but the payoff is a robust and deep understanding of physics. Flipped classroom with video lectures & textbook readings, with review during classtime. Graded on 5 exams and the lab grade, but generous with points and looks for understanding of applications over the correct answers. Super caring and accommodating. Frank is the GOAT.
You will need to study a lot but you will learn. His exams include all the concepts covered so be prepared for that. I would advise you to join the office hours. You can request if regular office hours don't work for you. If you show him that you are trying, he will come up with different grading criteria and will make you pass the class.
1) F expected students to learn everything before his class so that he doesn't need to teach anything 2) The unconventional & non-linear teaching method of which F is so proud factually only makes lots of physics novices entirely confused 3) Most importantly, attendance matters whilst his lectures are boring as hell 4) Labs were incredibly boring
Frank is a very nice guy, but please heed the other warnings about going into this class with minimal/no physics background. Exams are ~95% of your grade and the other ~5% is lab busywork that won't help you understand the material (assuming Prof Parikh is teaching it, idk about others), so there's absolutely no cushioning and nowhere to hide. :(
Seems like a nice enough guy, but he really is a terrible professor of physics. Lacks insight into effective teaching methods.
Frank is a generous and dedicated professor who will help you succeed in many ways. The premise is that you have to be fully prepared or have a good foundation, otherwise you will not know what he is talking about. Of course, you need to do a lot of practice after class. The final score is determined by three to four test scores.
The flipped classroom teaching style definitely favors students who have taken Physics before, but you will absolutely learn from this class. If you stay on top of the lecture notes and use them to practice, an A is more than possible. Frank is an extremely generous and caring professor and you can tell he wants you to succeed more than anything.
Your grade depends on tests. Prof is always ready to help students, will stay long after class ends to answer questions and set up zoom meetings whenever students ask for it. It is hard to get 100% on his tests since there are so many details, but he will notice if you put in effort. Ace the tests and ask lots of questions. Challenging content.
Great professor, very knowledgeable and funny. He runs the physics show, so he clearly loves the subject. Unafraid to answer questions during lecture or office hours, and hosts extra before tests. Grade only depends on 3 tests + lab + final, which replaces lowest midterm if it helps. Usually gets tests graded by next class. Copious partial credit.
My deepest condolences to you all if you take Frank Cascarano. Whenever you see his name on the courses that he is/will be teaching, I just want to say good luck with your future endeavors. He teaches the most basic concepts in class, but his exams are crazy hard due to the fact that the questions are NOTHING like the examples we did in class.
One of the best physics professors at Foothill. Frank is incredibly caring and will easily take the time to answers questions and put you in a position to succeed in his class. 4C is the "end of the road" for many non-physics majors, so the class has a much more laid back and fun atmosphere. Graded on 3 tests, a lab grade, and a final.
Frank Cascarano is an amazing Physics professor, he knows his stuff, is willing to help students whenever they ask, and will try to work with you to make sure you succeed. Only graded on 4 tests + final + lab, and can replace grades and even drop tests to even out scores.
Rude, emotionally unavailable to students, always on a "high horse". To get an A on a test you have to solve for concepts that were NOT covered in class/HW. Doing what is assigned will only get you a B. While OpenStacks is promoted, there is no reference to it on the tests. Effort is not rewarded.
Posts online video lectures you have to watch before class, and during class time he solves problems. Very accessible, exams are based on lecture note concepts. Generous with partial credit on exams.
Frank is generous with partial credit on exams. He also hosts additional office hours on Sundays before the Monday exams. Frank is the GOAT.
Pros: Do-over exam chance that you can boost your grade if you mess up one of the midterms. Sunday office hours before the exam. Cons: Getting an A/A+ is almost impossible if you mess up more than one midterm out of four midterms in total. Also, you MUST watch the assigned lecture videos before every lecture. Overall, Frank is a really nice guy!!
A good 2nd choice to Judd. Everything covered in lectures could be on exams. His lectures are helpful and have an online zoom option. Coming from previously taking Judd, the workload is much higher in terms of preparing for exams as they are graded harder however compensated with a generous amount of partial credit. Great attitude and enjoyed him.
Wonderful Professor, very caring and really knows his stuff! Has a do-over exam AND your final replaces your lowest exam score if it overall helps you, so make sure to study for that final!
Frank is best professor I've had at FH. The exams are similar to the questions covered in the lectures. He gives us many opportunities to improve, including do-over exams and for the final to replace the lowest exam grade. I struggle with physics, so I might not pass, but I still appreciate his support and patience in explaining all the questions.
TOUGH class. The material is very difficult to learn and remember, but if you ACTUALLY study and stay on track (I didn't lol), you could do very well. So many safety nets which helped me pass. Make sure you watch the pre lectures and review the class lectures. Frank is cool and cares about his students. You got this.
GOAT Professor. Such a cool guy. Took him for 4A and 4B. 4B is TOUGH. The material is difficult, but he makes it much easier. Plenty of resources to succeed, and if you work hard and spend time studying, passing is definitely achievable. Side note, his class is a bit test heavy. Your grade depends on 4 exams, (1 is dropped), as well as a final.
amazingly structured course content and study material, and lectures are also worth attending.
IDK how he got such a high rating on RMP. He literally taught the most basic concepts in class but his tests were so hard. Strongly recommend avoiding him.
He has a teaching style that can be perfect for some but might not work for others. You do prelecture work and then in class you do problems. Pre-lecture stuff isn't graded but do it anyway, it will help you. The tests aren't too hard and he gives plenty of partial credit. Just do the work, come to class, and do practice problems to study.
I love Frank but man are his exams hard. His practice exams are much easier then the actual exams. Frank has a lot of safety nets - He drops exam 1, he allows you to retake one exam at the end of the quarter, and the final also replaces the lowest grade. I could've gotten a better grade, but I was lazy at the beginning. DO NOT FALL BEHIND!
Very well structured course. Frank is an awesome professor; the course is not super easy but if you do the following you'll do well: 1. Watch lecture videos before class 2. Attend each class 3. Do homework problems after each class and before exams 4. Communicate with the professor
Considering that physics is one of the "hardest" classes, this class was relatively easy. His grading is super easy(generous partial credit, exam 1 dropped, retake 1 exam, final replaces lowest exam) and I believe that his tests greatly reflect what you learn so as long as you do the recommended HW, getting your desired grade shouldn't be too hard.
Frank is a great professor who makes the material accessible. He offers lots of opportunities to succeed, like do-over exams and a final that replaces your lowest grade. Make sure to watch the pre-recorded lectures - Unstuck AI was super helpful for exam prep!
He's definitely a GPA killer. I was a 4.0 until I took his class. The practice problems he provided is the way too easy compare to the exam prompts, which is pretty confusing. The final is the hardest compare to the previous quizzes. He does not wish his students to be success. Don't take him if you have any other choice. The worst.
How is he still employed at Foothill? I hope they get someone else to teach Physics because this guy is a joke and his tests are not reflective of the material taught in class
Usually I take rmp reviews lightly because most people will only speak on their bad experiences but TRUST ME WHEN I SAY HE IS GENUINELY A TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. The exam problems are nothing like the lecture examples and I do not think he cares about the success and wellbeing of his students. Extremely hard professor for NO REASON. Avoid at all costs.
I love Frank, he actually helps a great amount if you find him outside of class, and even in class he will provide great feedback and support. The reviews that comment on the test material just did not listen to the intricacies that Frank adds in tests, it is a test for a reason! Frank is the reason I began to like physics again.
Frank is a really good professor, but he expects you to apply what you know to perform well on a tough exam. You will watch his lecture before going to class and ask a question during the lecture meeting. If you are going to take this class, start watching the lecturer on YT whenever you can to give yourself some time to review for the midterm
Frank really cares about learning and shows it with the effort put into his video lectures before class, and the way he answers questions. You cannot go wrong with him and you will learn so much in his class!
Good part: AMAZING lectures, cool experiments in the class, great sense of humor, a lot of practice problems in the class, very responsive and gives good feedback. Hard part: you are graded based only on the exams which are pretty hard.
Frank is the absolute go to for physics. The lectures are the bestt, he will give great feedback on tests and during office hours, and most importantly he wants you to succeed!! The tests are not difficult if you do his recommended study problems because they cover all of the bases. You will love physics because of him!
Honestly very difficult course material. I spent around three times as much time studying for this class than any other STEM class I've taken. Grade is also almost entirely dependent on exams. That being said, Cascarano is knowledgeable, kind, and inspirational. Office hours are very helpful. Totally recommend him despite the course difficulty!!
Professor Frank is amazing! His lectures are great and he's a great guy. He wants you to pass and is pretty accessible. The tests account for your whole grade, so be ready to study.
Grading based mostly on tests with small percentage on lab. Tests are hard and math intensive, usually 3-4 questions and harder than any hw problems assigned. Have opportunity to retake one test and final replaces lowest test grade if better. Good lecture notes and lectures available on YT. Really knows the material and has extra online office hrs
The GOAT. I think Frank's class is made out to be a lot more difficult than it really is. Yes his tests are a little harder than normal, but Frank gives you every tool that you need to get 100s, and you don't need to dedicate an insane amount of time weekly. Do the pre-lecture, do the openstax problems, and you will 100% get an A.
I wish you the best
Frank is very passionate about Physics and loves teaching it. Only issue which is true from other students is that his lecture are very basic and when it comes to the actual test then its a lot harder. Most of the students who do good with Frank are either international students who are familar with Physics or took it in high school.
passionate, kind professor that has a lot of cool demos. he structures his class where you actually learn the material (he gives exam questions that expects heavy comprehension). if you haven't taken physics before, you can't get by his class cramming. exam every 2 weeks & you have to complete post lab write up in the same lab period
Frank inspires us to love physics, teaches it well, and is a genuinely good person at heart. However, his tests are HARD. The problems will surprise you even if you study every single problem gone over in his lectures. Only students who are physics prodigies can do well. I had a 4.0 GPA as a Chem major for three years at Foothill until now.
