take this instructor over all others! very informative and knowledgeable. very charasmatic and makes learning interesting; discussing many relevant and controversial current events. He's young and relates well to students. Easy assignments. Easy exams.

Great prof. Relates well to class, subject matter rocks.
world history class in five weeks. not the way to do world history but the teacher was great, quizzes not to hard and he was nice to all students in the class, fair.
This teacher is as hot as he is smart. His sexiness is only increased by his intelligence, and he's such a great teacher. He'll never make you feel dumb, and if he would go for it, I would jump him in a heartbeat.
He is an absolutely amazing professor. Not only does he make you do your work, but he makes you think too. There is nothing better than a teacher that makes you want to learn. I love this man!!!
this guy was a great teacher. very informative. makes you interested in the issue that he lectures about. interesting assignments and papers make this class a breeze.
He is a wonderful teacher. Very Helpful and, doesnt make the class hard. class is a breeze if you pay attention in class. and plus he is a hottie.
Chartrand is one of the coolest teachers, he connects with the students and knows how to help.
Very good teacher. Open minded and allows everyone's thoughts/opinions to be stated on an equal playing field. If you question him, he WILL back up his argument with concrete evidence, so challenge wisely. Highly recommended!
I don't think I have ever learned as much in a history class as I have with Chartrand. He is amazing.
Prof. Chartrand is one of the best teachers I have ever had. His wit and sharp sense of humor made this class so enjoyable. One piece of advice, dont get him started on the French ;)
a great lecturer, he makes history easy and understandable. just listen in class and you will get an a or a b. his discussions on current events got many people interested in things they would never care about. take this class!
Great teacher. He can explain history in a great way.
Frank is probably the second hottest professor at Pierce.Take him for that reason alone! His class isn't that easy though and there is a lot of work involved. His classes are NEVER boring, however, and his lectures are brilliant, thought provoking and funny
He's an excellent teacher though he claims to be an evil/mean person & seriously tries his best to live up to that claim. His unique mannerisms & style make him the butt of much snickering & smart remarks. He hates that but he's asking for it!Hi Frank... ;)
I love Mr. Chartrand!!! He is so nice and fun, his class is good times and you learn about the French in an easy fun way- take him for sure!!!
This Frenchman is a psychologists dream come true.He is very weird and goes off on wild tangents. He loses his temper easily(invoking laughter from his students) and demands to be taken seriously, which is impossible. If you need a laugh, take him (PLEASE!).
Chartrand was by far the greatest prof. i've ever had. His tangents keep the class from getting boring. It's easy to take him seriously, because he makes you think. The only people who wouldn't like this class are those who prefer sleeping to learning.
I do not understand how anyone could possibly say one negative thing about this man. Not only is he a wonderful person, but such a sharp and intellectual professor who only wants to educate his students. He is a must!!!
Those who think highly of the Freak need to realize that he admittedly believes that "All" of his students are,in HIS WORDS,"Stupid." Even tho there were some brilliant ppl in his classes last semester, he insisted that they were all
only the clueless think this one is a good prof. If you are alert, you'll see through his veneer. He is condescendng ,very cold and extremely mean. he yells at ppl, does weird stuff, and his quizzes are bizarre. Plus he has **** attitudes. scary!
this guys class is a total joke.students do laugh at him,he shouts & gets angry - you cant learn with someone like this.i realize pierce is desperate but they dont need to keep profs who make derogatory remarks about races & women.lots of ppl dropped out

I LOVED THIS CLASS, LEARNED ALOT AN ENJOYED THE CONVERSATIONS. HE OPENED UP MY EYES TO NEW ASPECTS OF LIFE, AND HE WASNT BORING AT ALL TO LOOK AT.LOL. HELL TRY TO SCARE YOU OFF THE FIRST DAY BUT HE IS AMAZING, HANG IN THERE, HES WORTH IT.
Really good teacher, kept me awake in an early morning class. Approachable, fair in grading, comment cards were nice- you can ask questions anonymously.
hes all about clarity. and if you are still unclear after he repeats himself 50 times, hes also very approachable. he doesnt make ANY **** or derogatory remarks. hes loud but thats to keep the class awake. very knowledgable too!
I took his class 2 years ago and I got a "B". I thought he was very good.Quizzes are not hard, 2 small reports to do, he did NOT get angry at anybody when I took him or make any stupid comments, he did NOT have any tangents so I dont know what the rest are talking about
i took him at fall 2004. professor Chartrand is a very intelligent person. he cares about his students, encourage them and goes out of his way to educate him. he's very interesting and funny as well. u can tell he puts a lot of effort in his classes. i miss the guy.
I thought his lectures were very interesting; he brought the history off the pages & made you look at it from different angles. He is slightly condescending, but i think that it's really just to challenge his students to think outside the box.Great sense of humor.Nice guy & outstanding teacher.
He is a very good Teacher. He knows his stuff. Drinks a lot of soda.ahahaha.Great teacher. His final was really easy. Tests are based on lectures and the texts.
Frank Chartran may look nice on the outside, but in class, he is Dr.Jekylland Mr.Hyde. If you don't agree with him, he explodes like a volcanoeand he is sometimes compassionate but the man breathes eats and drinkshistory. He can be very interesting.
I had the class in winter. he doesnt blow up - its called interest and passion and when people in our class are dead you kind of have to get their attention. he is one of the two best professors I have ever had and Im concurrently enrolled at usc - took class at pierce cuz its cheaper.
Frank Chartran is a good person but in title of the class, he would get carismatic, and get iritated because one of the signs that you could tell is, when he would touch his hair back constantly. But he makes you think but you better not say anything about french, because he hates frenchies.

Makes topics intresting.
got an A. there are quizzes after every chapter, which makes for a test every time the class meets, but did all my homework and all extra credit work and made up for my low quiz scores.the final required about 4 hours max of preparation, and I did relatively well even without skill in the subject. really cool and interesting class, awesome guy.
History is my least favorite and hardest subject and thanks to Professor Chartrand I made it through the class with a B. Hes funny, keeps you entertained and makes history as interesting as possible. Id recommend him to anyone.
Hate history with a passion. I was not absent from class once, and i did every assignment. I managed to fail every test with flying colors!!! I still passed with a C. Wish he taught every subject. He makes class fun.
I think he is great. You just need to study your book thats alllll ! Intresting class...
The best history class.I HATE history but I loved his class. before each quize or test he goes over all the questions that are going to be on the test, very very helpful. he is young and interesting. Not too much reading and he doesn't lecture very fast, uses power point which is great for learning history. take the class 4sure.
The best teacher i've ever had keeps you interested in the subject and i hate history but i loved his class got an A easy class.
Very good teaher, best teacher i ever had in this subject, and he is funny, hates french people and is very interested in Genocide, watch the movie Rwanda and made me change the way that i thought about racism, best ever!!!
Whatever your major, whatever your interest...take Frank Chartrand for at LEAST one semester, you won't be sorry.
VERY nice guy, although class was somewhat boring. I didn't learn much truthfully, but I got an A, and if an A grade is what you want, then with some work it is very attainable. recommended if you're weak in english, and in need of a history professor who will sort of simplify the material.
I loved this class. He really makes you look outside the box in all areas of life.I never really had an interest in History but you know they say "History repeats itself" and this teacher made me realize how true that is.He keeps your attention.I have a lot of respect for him and a new respect for myself.I recommend everyone take his class before t
Excellent prof. Knows alot about the subject and explains the material clearly and simply.
He is so great! You ust not tell him though...ahaha Seriously, he makes you work a lot, because you write tons of papers, but he opens your eyes on a lot of things. With my personality was hard to shut up sometimes, but this is why he makes you participating in the class. He's also soooo interesting...not bad at all!!
I took his History 13 class this past fall 2005. It's the best. You'll have fun. He makes 20th Century history exciting. Even though I did'nt do to well on the tests. I still got a C. He's an awesome teacher. Just do the assignments, study for the tests and stay up and alert in class. You'll have fun.
One very inspiring teacher. Im very lazy but he made me wanna study and learn. He takes time to make powerpoints that he doesnt have to just to help us understand the world better. He hates the french and he will spend about 20 min of every class to tell you why. This guy is great. Tests are easy if you study and take good notes. He is pretty fair.
Prof. Chartrand is the best professor ive ever taken. He knows what hes talking about and and makes it interesting. Take him, you wont regret it.
He's very inspiring and makes you want to learn. His quizzes are really easy because they only cover 1 chapter at a time. And I cant believe anyone has said this yet he looks A LOT like John Cusack.

This guy is crazy, he is absolutely the worst teacher. he has major mood swings and often throws a fit and holds grudges towards students. he is very rude and extremely stubborn. this is the worst class i have ever taken.
yo, dudes, what up! dudes a totally rad teacher - yeah, can be kinda strong on opinons but is way cool - had a cuple of classes, and he doesn't care about my spelling as long as I get the answer right... totally cool - shout out to Mr.C!
this is by far the worst teacher all he does is talk **** put it this way he comes on here and leaving him self comments every single day...hey mr chartrand if you are reading this come and track me down
his the best teacher ever his funny 2 i hate history but i love his class because he makes it enteresting
he is a very very good teacher!he seems to love what he teaches and that makes the class more interesting.i was dreading taking this class and now it is my favorite!he can be strict, but this is college, get over it.he doesn't try to trick you on anything with the material.all you have to do is show up,take notes and read the book. it takes very litt
dood he is incredible...this class is why i wake up in the mornings now...never a dull moment because he tends to go off on tangents and then flip out, which makes him even more awesome...well to sum it up...awesome teacher but dont try to **** with him...it doesnt seem healthy
Eccentric, volatile, extremely intelligent, yet very entertaining. Fun to debate/argue with on social topics, and makes an otherwise boring dull class very interesting. Highly recommended. Whether you hate or love history, his lecturing will leave you transfixed and mesmerized, and will open your eyes. Tests are straightfoward, about average difficulty.
He's very into history and, even if you don't like it, you will be too by the end of his class. He really made the class exciting and I'm not a fan of history at all. You will have to do work though, don't think you can breeze through his class. We had to write several papers; focus is on genocides.
Fun teacher. Can teach. Puts humor in history. I dont fall asleep even if im half asleep. Just do the reading and read powerpoint notes and you're good. Goes over exactly whats gonna be on the quizzes right be4 the quiz. Take it. I didn't find anything wrong with the class or him.
His class was not difficult at all. 25 question quiz at the end of every chapter. Assignments that were less then a page. Just show up and take notes and you'll do well in the class.
He has got to be one of the best teachers @ Pierce! He likes to discuss current news @ the beginning of class, which is alot of fun for the whole class. You'll just have to experiance it to fully understand! This is not the class for a easy A but if you like learning and are will to put effert into classes then you'll have no problem with his class
Professor Chartrand is a really funny guy! He always has powerpoint notes that he goes over in class so you have to go or else he'll mark you off. Take the class it's worth it! P.S If you're in honors, you have to write a research paper!
Chartrand is without a shadow of a doubt the best professor i've ever had. he's so passionate about history, you can't stay bored in his class even if you really want to. there is a great amount of work at home (an essay every week), but he's very fair in grading. be warned - if you don't share his views about something, you're in for some fun tim
This guy is a joke. I can see why people would say he is "awesome" but really he is not. He does not have much respect for history as a subject and he doesn't mind tell you that either.." I don't really like teaching history but I didn't want to finish law school." haha.. He gave me a B when the numbers showed I had an A. jokes on him.
Chartrand is an AWESOME professor. I took History 86 last semester every class and he never said anything about not liking history but did it because he wanted to finish law school. I've taken him two semesters and both time he mentioned he likes teaching history. Your numbers cant add up because you don't get your final grade unless you email him!
Highly recommended; any statement denigrating his fairness or passion are fallacious. If more professors respected history like Chartrand than students would get a much more objective and in depth knowledge of the subject. The grading is simple enough--quiz questions come from the book--just show up and turn in the homework.
I did not enjoy this professor or his class. For a survey of the 20th century, I'd say we really only got through about 1970. He relied heavily on Power Point which often times, malfunctioned. He wasted the first 2 weeks of class getting to know the students and their quirks. This is not the class for you if you're in it to learn.
This teacher is by far the best, honest, knowledgeable and passioniate about what he does. He not only prepares you for his test but also opens up your eyes to the world around you. He is being unfairly judged by students. It is quite sad to see how these immature youths are acting. I would take any class for this professor he is truely AWESOME.
I learned so much from P. Chartrand that I have to speak against all this negativity. He uses history to teach students about life, a concept I wish more of my teachers would care enough to think about. The class is not the stereotypical boring history class of memorizing dates. He makes history exciting and fun, something I thought I'd never say.
AMAZING!!! Highly recommend taking his class. Keeps history from being boring and get off topic somewhat. Do the reading and pay attention in class, and you'll do fine.
Chartrand is the best teacher I've ever had in my 2 years at Pierce. If you let him, he will impact your life in a very positive way. He will respect you, as long as you can back up your opinions with facts. Just running your mouth to hear yourself talk, or making him your scapegoat, is not going to get you anywhere with him or in life. Take him.
Chartrand is super cool. This guy is cool because he knows what he believes in and sticks to it. He doesn't take crap from students who think they are wise beyond their years. Very cut and dry. No bs busy work...awesome class. Learned a lot about the Middle East that I didn't know before.
All the positive reviews are correct. He’s a fantastic teacher; lectures are very interesting, well organized, and crystal clear. He does power point presentations that outline the notes you should be taking. Information needed for the tests is on his website, if you look at that, you’ll get an ‘A’ on every test. Textbook is definitely required
This teacher is very funny, not a boring class at all (infact i dont think any of his classes are boring) because he always finds a way to sneak in a joke somehow! gotta study for the tests! by the way, hes really hot, n his jokes make him seem even hotter!i sat right in the front next to my friend fall semeter of 06 so the jokes seemed even funnie
HOTTY HOT HOT HOT...... hotter than hot sauce... anyways, taking a history class with professor chartrand was so much fun. he is really intresting and funny. sometimes the class gets boring, but ladies let me tell you, hes good looks always keep you entertained.
He is a great teacher. cares about what he teachs and wants you to do well but wont help you with ur grade if you are very close to the next higer grade. you need to read in depth or you will miss the little things that he puts on tests that end up being a lot of it
Very intelligent, knows exactly what he is talking about and very good at teaching.
if you want to listen to someone pontificate there beliefs all day, then go for him. so many questions about him
Very entertaining class, passionate teacher, really knows the subject. Great teacher overall..
He is an amazing teacher. Take his class, I promise you will not be disapointed.
this guy really thinks he knows evrything to the point where u can declare him as an ignorant person, he teaches his class like the students are in a court, questioning & answering ?'s like a lawyer cause he went to law school, its all pwrpoint, so all you do is copy and dnt take in any knowledge. cool teacher but he needs to lightn up with his ego
he is good but if dislikes something about you he will keep picking on you

anyone who take this class, will pass. i faild all my test and still passed his class with b. on the final he takes 10 questions from all test that are taken in class and puts it in the final. theres no reason for you not to pass this class.

Interesting & fun winter session class. He was able to take info from the origins of man to high middle ages and make it entertaining, informative and relevant to what is happening in the world today--not an ez task, I imagine. Quized on every chapter--ez if you listen & read the book. Nice guy. Overall a pleasant xperience. Highly Reccommend. A+
Just hope that there are any UC know it alls taking the class with you. If he grows to like them the entire class discussion revolves around them. You're just left in the dark as they blab on how much they already know about the subject (in this case Islam). I want to give him another shot for a different class.
Make sure you read the book and you'll do fine, he hates it when students are late.
THE BEST. Keep class interesting. Quiz you at the end of each chapter with multiple choices. Sometimes post study guide so check his website occasionally. He has so many things to offer. Final is accumulative but you have all the answers from all chapters except the last one. Some essays required but mostly opinions. THE BEST!
HIGHLY RECOMENDED! this class involved alott of reading, but he made it worthwhile and it didnt hurt that he was very handsome. be prepared to study or your grade will DROP
took him for history 13. great teacher you can fail all your tests but if you show up everyday and put effort into his class he will give you a C. He's very sarcastic he hates politics overall great guy, very laid back. Take home quizzes.he lectures bt it helps to read.
Read the chapters, print out the powerpoints, and do the homework, it's as simple as that. The tests were covered in the notes and text. We sort of lingered on a few chapters, but this class was interesting.
Interesting, helpful, easy to get along with as long as you are on time, and you make an attempt. He spends more time on the first chapters and then speeds along by the middle. He takes it as seriously, but is funny about it. Relateable, but he won't put up with rude behavior.
Quizes after every chapter. It was a fun class and he makes it interesting. After having two other teachers at history in Pierce, he is prefered.
Nice, fun, yells a bit.Just make sure you read the chapter, most of your grade will depend on how well you can write an essay. Handsome, too.
Good funny prof. Way more patience than students in class had for some dumb students. Clear and easy.
He was clear in what he wanted, spent alot of time on first chapters and went faster on later chapters. Like someone else wrote - way to tolerant of these three who talked all the time. Tests were text and from class. Don't be late or rude and read.
Too many quizzes but we can use notes and book and all done use Moodle. Interesting material.
Chartrand makes History exciting. I should know, I hate history. The class is a bit hard though. You need to read the book (not long) and pay attention to detail. Actually, I don't know how I ended up with an A.
In the first class I took with him, I despised how pompous and arrogant he could be. By the middle of it I respected him, by the second and third (maybe fourth?) class I took with him... I was head over heels. Love this guy... One of the best profs in the profession, period. (is your brother younger and unmarried...?)
he is funny teacher but hard to understand sometimeshe teaches good very interesting but we dont use the textbook like that and ure on ure own to study n stuff but its a good class i liked it
If there's a word beyond AMAZING,it is him. He's knowledgeable, professional, highly educated, great personality, organized & helpful,Makes sure that everyone is clear on the subject and answers all question. He is very handsome and decent. Those people who don't like history, will fall in love with it & with him as well.Luv u professor Chartrand.
He is SO RIGHT WING. His Republican propaganda is annoying. He hates liberals like me!
His class requires you actually using your brain. It's not just a wank but, you will learn the information. You earn the grade you get - if you don't read or attend classes, you'll do poorly.
Fun, interesting, easy. Take his class! Personality may put some off but he's actually pretty easygoing. Fair with grades.
Very clear, asks dozens of times if anyone is confused or lost and is helpful if you ask. I read the notes and the powerpoints and skimmed the book and ended up with a B. I went to class, listened, and did ok, although I kind of think he is a little left not right on some issues. In any case he is fair.
Very knowledgable about his subject. Only complaint is that he's vaguely narcissistic, but his class is enjoyable and you'll definitely earn your grade depending on the amount of work you do. Altogether, I recommend the class (even though a few may be turned off by his arrogance). Still, good teacher.
He explains everything you need to know but he does want you to read your book as well. He is so useful. He gives reviews before taking each quiz and provides the slides (powerpoints) online. He is very passionate and it shows. He loves history which makes him a great professor.History has never been something I understood until now.
Great teacher. Be in class, take good notes- you will get atleast a B or an A. Very knowledgable in history.
Great teacher!! Good sense of humor. Entertaining. Make sure you read the textbook before quizes, and printing out the powerpoints ahead of time really helps.
Professor is very conservative, and goes on rants in the beginning of class every day. If you can tolerate that, his tests are rather hard, and he is strongly opposed to extra credit. Knows what he is talking about though. Very nice unless you're an outspoken liberal
Honestly, I have never been so in love with a prof in my life, He is very conservative but he knows what he is talking about he is so knowledgeable about the subject where I have never been so intrigued by the whole course. He teaches you what you never thought you would ever learn..hands on the best prof Ive ever had for history...amazing...gorge
Not a lot to say bc he can leave you speechless or so mad you have to go out and check something he said in class (and he was right). Knowledgeable about the material and helpful if you have problems, but you have to ask. Challenges you to think about why you know what you know and how it relates to history. Great prof.
THE best professor I have ever had! He is extremely helpful and clear, makes history interesting and relatable to his students' lives. He is very approachable; you get the feeling that he teaches because he loves it & his passion is felt and appreciated by his students. Take his classes if you can! I have taken 3 and would take more if I could!
amazing history teacher! i had interest in history prior to this class. he's straight forward with what he wants, no excuses! he was easy on the eyes which was an incentive to come to class!
Although good looking, he is arrogant and I have to say it obnoxious. seems distracted and into his own politics rather than staying on target of subject we are supposed to be studying. I look around the room and many students look as confused as I am.
Great teacher, he knows his stuff but goes off topic.
Yeah, he is a rude one. Very opinionated. Very arrogant. No room for critical thinking. He literally tells you what to think. His assignments are random and off topic too. It's just a gen ed class. grit your teeth and ride it out.You will learn tough.
I had no interest in history before taking this class, and now I want to take more. He made it interesting and made me want to pay attention. He's a great guy and all those people that say he isn't don't know what they're talking about. I'd highly recommend this guy. He's funny, keeps class interesting, and yeah, he is hot lol. TAKE THIS GUY!!!
One of the best teachers I ever had!! Even though he can seem rude or arrogant at times, he really does care about all his students! As long as you make an effort he will make sure you learn the material and get a good grade!
Was a good teacher. The beginning was difficult. His quizzes either come from the book or his overhead lectures. He Gives about 4-5 homework + optional points that you can earn. His final all come the quizzes + 2 essays (not sure in the future) you can use your notes, your book, or his notes for the essays.
poor information can make the students confused. I took this level of history back in my country in Europe, and he changed most of the historical events in the way he likes it.
he's really arrogant. dont talk in his class, dont use your phone, dont be late he'll give you dirty looks and pick on you during class because of it. his tests are difficult. he says theyre all from the lecture but honestly youre better off reading the book. try to sit up front and participate so hell care about you when it comes to grading.
STAY AWAY!!! Prof. is really arrogant. Lectures are long, he sometimes covers 3 chap. all in one night. To much information to grasp all at once. You can try your hardest & you still wont get an A. Unless your a guy and sit up front, he wont notice you. Tells jokes and makes fun of students that weren't born in the U.S. Hoping they wont realize.
He is verry funny in an opinionated arrogant sort of way. There are quizzes after each chapter which are easy if you pay attention + read the chapter - do the study guides! "How much reading should you do? Just keep reading until you stop." Some assignments don't seem to have anything to do with the class which is annoying but the class was fun.
FUNNY! Love this guy. Pompous Intelligent satirical and a pleasure to listen to ramble. Hes sarcastic and very Larry David in a sexy way.
Awesome teacher. He's very eccentric. Don't run away when you meet him, though. He is very intelligent and FUNNY. It's not an easy class, but it's only because it is upto YOU. It's your responsibility to study and read the book. Seriously. Read. the. Textbook. Attendance makes up "most" of your grade.
GREAT teacher. If you actually listen to his lectures, you will learn everything you need to know and much more.
He is a major Judy attitude-y! But a good teacher. Tests are hard, but the other assignments and the extra credit he offers bring your grade back up. Oh and the final is the same questions as the previous tests so hold on to them as a study guide
He is very funny and outgoing once you get to know him. He is very knowledgeable. YES keep all your work. It will help you with your final. He is also very nice looking!
He is pompous, I don't know why considering he's at CC. He says women can't drive and should be happy they get jobs based on their looks. He goes off on stupid ramblings that have nothing to do with the course. He also cares way too much about what students write on here. He should focus on teaching, it's not a personality popularity contest.
This class is very interesting, he?s a good instructor. Print all power point presentations and review sheets so you can study. Study them and you will do great in his class. Do not miss his class or you will regret it later. His class goes fast anyways. Don?t forget the green book? aahahhahahhahah I don?t like writing essays..
Like many people have said before, very pompous and very eccentric. Says some things that many people in the room don't agree with. However, his course is great, nothing outlandish, tests and assignments are simple. Class recommended, but you're bound to dislike his attitude.
If you pay attention in class and read the textbook, there's no way you can't pass. He provides powerpoints and chapter outlines/questions which help for the tests. Easy assignments, straightforward tests and quizzes, plus he's sexy! His sense of humor is great if you learn to not take everything so seriously
Excellent professor, says some things you may not agree with but nothing crazy. Took him for Western Civilization. Dresses in suits a lot like The Man In Black which I found humorous. Take him, the class isn't too hard and its interesting to be in.
Professor Chartrand is highly critical individual, spends most of the time ranting on certain things that have nothing to do with the subject. The study guides have nothing to do with the questions on the exam. I love history, and luckily got a B. Don't take him if you have to take a General Ed history class. You will hate history more.
Had a hard time doing the paper. He doesn't like grammatical mistakes. Rants for 30 minutes before teaching. But he's still fun, and keeps my interest. He answers questions clearly. Will help you if you ask. He's a fair grader, or sometimes might even go out of his way to give you a good grade. Study guide is exactly the exam. Essay part is hard.
To be honest, history is not my favorite subject nor my strongest but he made it fun. Just read the book before class and do exactly what he says. You will pass, I guarantee it.
His class is very entertaining. Most of the exam questions are found in the book and lecture notes, but you will need to analyze them to get the test questions. You will need to be in class to take notes since half of the questions can be found in lecture notes. Overall, take him if you really want to learn and put efforts. It's hard to get an A.
he's an awesome teacher. i find his sense of humour really funny. His lectures are told like a story and always before class he would spend some time talking about random world news which i think was entertaining. The class was fairly easy, except the essay and final which were hard.
His humor is hilarious to me. He is one of those people that is like screw the world, but this guy knows his History. Lectures can sometimes go off topic and could be boring. READ because your notes will most likely not help you on the quizzes. Final is not so hard, but there is essays included.
He is the most simple professor yet, well basically tell you upfront on the first day of what is expected. All the Exams are online and are very easy if you actually take the time to read it. He is very out there but has a point.
Knowledgeable professor. Unfortunately, he seems to have a difficult time staying on topic. On several occasions, he debated with students on matters of opinion for over 1/2 hour (because he can't be wrong; "i dont know about 99%...what I do talk about I KNOW!!!!"). I felt he put too much opinion into his lectures and not enough fact. Grade C+
His class was very interesting due to his personality. Take notes, read the chapters, and pay attention in class. You can't fail if you focus. The final is based on questions from all the tests, so always study. It was one of my favorite history classes ever. You won't regret taking him. Hope I was able to help. :)
If you want to learn history, I highly recommend this teacher. Absolutely phenomenal!
Keeps the class interested in the subject matter and does not have a lot of difficult test. Watch the power point, keep notes and get an "A"
I really enjoy this professor. He knows how to keep you interested in the subject matter and knows when to go off course to keep things interesting. I am not the greatest student, I did receive an A in this class, because I payed attention to his lecture and reviewed the Power Point. Quizzes were easy and the Final cover what he taught. Recommend!
Your entire grade pretty much consists of the final. No midterm. Homework and quizzes are worth basically nothing. He's a very knowledgeable professor and keeps the class interesting but his grading system is ridiculous. He can also be condescending at times. If you plan on taking a history class do not take him.
I do not recommend taking his class. Depending on your sense of humor he's either funny or offensive, but he doesn't teach you much. He doesn't like grading so you'll get no essays and hardly any assignments to secure your grade before the final, which is worth 50% of the class. The final is difficult because you don't learn a lot in his class.
This was a good teacher for history 13. I took him for History 1 also which I had receive a good grade so I took him for History 13 and I also passed. I have to say heis probable the easiest pierce college history profesor I have ever met. He makes the class fun and he lets us eat in class. He is awesome and I guarantee you will pass. Take him
I took his class a few years ago and it changed my entire view of college. He allowed us to give our opinions, as long as we were respectful. He made the subject relateable to our lives and the culture around us. He is hands down the best professor I had during college and I continue to remember him and the influence he had.
I took his World History course at College of the Canyons, and I highly recommend him especially if you are uninterested in history, he has a way of connecting with students and making history fun! I enjoyed his class and found him quite entertaining. Read the textbook thoroughly! All quiz's and the final is based off the textbook reading.
This class is awesome! He is very entertaining and makes his lectures relevant. His sense of humor is harsh but hilarious. Don't buy the text, waste of money. Definitely planning on taking another course with him.
Frank Chartrand is a whirlwind of information, great useful information. He may come off at first as brash but that's because he knows what he's talking about. Listen, learn, laugh; you'll enjoy the experience. He is thoughtful, highly intelligent and respectful of your opinion. I thoroughly enjoy his class.
He pretty much teaches the way that a University would teach. This class will prepare you for a university above all. He is the best professor i have had. I taken him 4 times and each time I have done well. He also might sound offensive but what does one expect from a European. There is never a dull moment in his classes
He's so random and weird. Stares into space for a good while before he gets a sentence out. His class was all powerpoint lecture. You had to turn in weekly articles that related to the current topic he lectured on. He gave incredibly long study guides which weren't so helpful. But I think he's cool with grading. You can definitely pass. Take him!
He gave us a quiz on 3 chapters we had not studied for yet just because a couple people in class were talking. He even admit that he wanted us all to do bad on it. Very unprofessional.
Terrible! I was so excited to take his history class but he "teaches" off of powerpoint notes and they are incomplete and usless. You basically have to prepare yourself.Btw the tests are hard and he will test you on material he didnt go over in class. Bad experience I do NOT recommend. This used to be my favorite class
This guy only uses powerpoint notes which incomplete and usless. The tests are hard and he will test you on material he didnt go over in class. He's terrible. I do NOT recommend him!!!
LISTEN TO ME! his quizzes/test are really hard.. I get always 4.0s & I got a B in this class! he takes a lot of time to talk about stuff that isn't EVER going to be on a test, so reading the book and doing some what helpful study guide is the only way you will get a sorta good grade! he is funny tho but wouldn't take him again EVER!!
Most scattered, arrogant rude teacher. stay away. Honestly the worst professor. He needs an attitude check. Never grades anything, everything is up in the air.
Horrible teacher. Spent a week all the negative aspects for each country that he lectured about. Does not speak with facts, rather with assumptions and his own ignorant opinions. If you want to actually learn something, I suggest you take this course with a professor that actually knows what they're talking about. He pulls facts from God knows.
Professor lectures on things that have nothing to do with the book. Very biased and unprofessional. Made up a lot of things about different countries with his own opinions. Do not take.
Somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to history; however, he seems to be be repulsed by the French, the country of his ancestors. He believes the ideas of the Vichy government at the time of Nazi occupation was the sentiment of the entire french population. Also avoid morals or politics. He's one of the people who believe you need God to be good
TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE! Do not take his class if you at all value your GPA. He is very unprofessional and ignorant. His tests have absolutely nothing to do with the material covered in class, that is if he decides to get off his biased tangents about women and other countries to even give a lecture about history. Do not take his class.
Taking his class right now and I just couldn't wait to rate. Most of the info he covers in class is on the test, but you have to READ to get an A! He also connects the class to present day issues! Finally! A conservative guy after the countless idiots teaching at Pierce. Don't listen to everyone else! Take him! plus, he's not bad to look at ;)
Possibly one of the worst professors I've ever had. Very ill informed about India and China and only shows the negatives of those two. I advise you to take a professor that actually knows about countries and not just the negative things.
Goes off topic most of the time and hardly stays on track. He adds his own opinion to things, rather than going off facts. I don't recommend this guy to anyone.
Maybe he seems somehow arrogant about some issues, but the truth is his class is realy intersting and fun. You just don't how times flies in his class. hope he weren't so dilligent about some topics. He is realy a great teacher, and with some work, it won't be too hard to get an A.
not a good professor at all. hardly stays on topic and adds his own opinions to the lectures, making him sound ignorant
LOVE THIS GUY!! Took him twice and contemplating on taking him a 3rd time. He is incredibly sarcastic in a slightly charming way. Tests are multiple choice and he gives a review right before basically giving you all the answers. Contribute enough for him to know your name & he will love you. Not a hard class, his smart remarks will grow on you!
I really enjoyed him. Print the online test reviews, take some notes and you're fine. He does a quick "review" before each test and tells you the answers. He gives you EVERY question on the final prior. He does go off topic, but it's interesting and he's very witty. He's laid back. Easy class, recommend!!
Ok ill be honest here, this man has an amzing level of clarity. His ability to take a factual event from history and apply it towards your life is simply amazing. At first day he was increbly scary, but i realize now that its his job to do that, he wasnt being scary, he was being affirmative. This man has a passion for teaching. Hes a real teacher.
He is a really great teacher, please do not pay attention to the negatives on this site prior to deciding on this class. He keeps the class moving, he is interesting, funny and very informative on historical and current events. He is fair. His class was one of the most enjoyable I have taken at Pierce College over the years.
Amazing professor. Great lectures, keeps you involved. Fair with everybody and let's you express your opinions, no matter what. Lots of resources online, including PowerPoints and reviews.
You won't learn anything you didn't already know in 6th grade. You may find yourself thinking about Perrier a lot. Also, don't go into class on the first day of school thinking that you're going to see the first "Frank Chartrand" who pops up on Google images. That guy lives in Canada and you will be filled with disappointment and regret.
Very funny guy and good professor. Always makes the lecture interesting with his rambling. I'd take his class again.
He's funny and really knows what he's talking about. He really tries to make you understand what he's saying. BUY THE BOOK.
Best professor at pierce.
Good teacher. Clear grades. Do what you have to do & you'll get an A. Loves to go into other things during lecture but he's really funny & really cares that you pass. You have a 20 question quiz once you finish each chapter (6 chapters) & the chapter review is online. Not a lot of work & very clear, straight to the point class. I learned a lot
He is almost a funny person but not a good teacher at all. He hardly stands on a topic. Tests are confusing just like his lecture. Very stressful class. He's not a fair grader. I don't recommend him.
Great class! Make sure you email him with any questions about the assignments and grades with the correct format. Make sure not to take his sarcastic humor too seriously. Buy the book, read the chaptersnotes and do the review and you shall be fine. Also make sure you actually read his website because all of the assignments and FAQ are on there.
Expect to read from the textbook to pass. There are LOTS of quizzes - Read from the book & the many pages of notes from his lectures (uses powerpoint) to get an A in the class. Definitely definitely possible to get an A - I got plenty of C's and D's on my quizzes & got an A. He's very funny & kind - Cares for his students & wants them to succeed.
I took him at C.O.C. and he was the best! I fell absolutely in love with history. He uses material from the book and the lectures. Take notes and thorough reading and you will do great.
I'm talking him right now and I have fallen back in love with History. He is seriously the best History professor at Pierce. Yes he may go on a rant but he makes it relatable to your life. I love him!
He talks a lot of non-sense but if you like history and or non-sense you will like his class. It is not a tough class to pass but i felt i needed to work harder than what i wanted to. he is a cool teacher and for a person like me who doesn't like history i would recommend him.
He is well inform about recent issues and relate it to the subjects, knows his subject, he can be a bit confusing because he does get off topic most of the time. He is very fair in grading the grade you get is what you work for, he is helpful and has a big heart. you will have about 6 test and pop quizzes depends we only took 2. Read the book!
passionate about history. hilarious stories that are not on the test tho. pop quizzes 5 questions about simple stuff like whats the next chapter called. assigns a few 1 page essays on compare contrast cultures. must read text and study his powerpoint for test. gives one extra credit opportunity, do it! final was a bit hard, so E.C. will help.
I took this class during the summer. He was hilarious, first of all. I definitely did not mind going to class. You will definitely pass if you go to his lectures, take notes, read the book, and do the study guides!! THE TEST ANSWERS ARE ON THE STUDY GUIDES. Class was graded only on tests. No homework. Drops lowest test score, even the final.
took his class over the summer and its absolutely essential that you show up to take notes. He provides study guides and the book also doesn't hurt having. He seems to go off on a tangent most of the time but overall he's good teacher. Also i was able to find the textbook online in pdf form for free online.
A refreshingly candid teacher, including esoteric and interesting facts, while excluded meaningless, politically correct minutia.
I love going to class. He is hilarious! However, lectures - review sheet - test doesn't seem to be a clear path. We never read the book in class but you HAVE to read it on your own to pass. Some of what is on the review sheet and test are not mentioned in lecture but take notes! Drops lowest test score, offers extra credit for tutoring sessions.
One of the best professors, he may go off-tangent, but he comes back to reality. He puts up 70-80% of his notes online, so you must get the rest of the notes in lecture. Pop quizes and tests are easy if you study your notes. 4 essays and easy, need book for one of the essays and for some tests. Trust me, you won't be bored in his class!
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! Always clear about tests given. Wish he had a powerpoint in class though, other than that great teacher and a fun class!
Class was basically a breeze. I got a "B" somehow. I got C's and D's for most of the tests and still got a pretty good grade. EC helped a lot. Show him you care about the class and subject.
Study guides for every chapter, 25q's each test. 17 q's are answered from study guides (otherwise lecture/textbook). Mandatory attendance, some q's are only from lectures, and he's not afraid to drop you if you're absent/late often. 3-4 assignments only but he will make it harder next semester. Easy A/B as long as you finish study guides/do work.
easy class. You must read the textbook.
I personally do not like Chartrand at all as a person and do not find him funny, but as an instructor, he's just 'okay.' Reading the textbook is required if you want As on the tests. Lectures are useful but not as detailed as they could be. Is unnecessarily harsh about grading papers when the class isn't an English class. Not recommended.
lectures do not correlate with quiz's and tests given; though he is approachable in person... do not reccomend
He was okay as an entertainer, his notes are all over the place, he had horrible hand writing. I liked hearing his opinions on politics or in general really ( he goes off topic sometimes)..... but honeslty thats maybe what stuck to me the most. You NEED the book like NEED because that's your only chance to passing. A test after every chapter
He was eh sarcastic and somewhat easy class. no homework about 7 chapter quizzes 3 assignments like short essays and final is a quiz with an essay that is the most important part of the class final essay - take home and turn in on final day I never went 2 class I just read chapters from textbook at home quizzes are based off online reviews and book
This is a refreshing, entertaining professor, and I learned much more than history in his class. He's sarcastic, funny, and it's ashamed that many people would give him a bad rating just because some students cannot handle that. He made a subject which I thought was boring, a very interesting one. He was straightforward & blunt, in a very good way.
Professor Chartrand is honest and direct, yet also considerate and articulate. He uses excellent analogies to teach history, and possesses an ability to relate past events to modern times. His lectures are educational and entertaining. His quizzes do require you to study, but that is what we are in school for, right?
So this professor is amazing first of all he's funny and his class is overall fun to be in. But my only complaint is that he is lazy, there are times where he seems like he doesn't want to be there himself. His lectures are based off a book that's many editions old so in the last half reading and finding information in the book is impossible.
this professor has his n opinions , he started the class by telling us not to judge historical events based on todays culture, yet he does it all the time. Extremely strong headed about his own believes to the point of dismissing and making fun of other believes. he is comfortable calling historical characters stupid and dismiss historical events.
Took him for winter. He's so disrespectful, but you need to buy the textbook. I rented mine for $12.
This is a very hard class & difficult to achieve an A. You must read the book and memorize so much stuff. The tests are hard as you must read the questions very carefully.
One of the best professors in Pierce College. I took him History 1 and History 13 in Spring and Summer class. He is caring, wonderful and hilarious. About the tests, you have to study. You will have a B if you study "study guide " and "power point". If you want an A, you have to read book too. I would recommend him for everyone
Took Chartrand during the summer. Didn't have any essays during the summer unlike the longer fall/spring classes. Tests only- about 5, drops two of them, 1 final(Summer Anyway). Tests were somewhat hard. He gets information from the book, notes, and he puts up a study guide. I'd say pay attention mostly to the study guide and powerpoints.
This professor is so funny. His lectures are amazing, entertaining, and it's so easy to pay attention because this class is really interesting. He has powerpoints and some study guides but you must read the chapters in the book in addition to that to get a solid A. However, it is an easy A. Book is an easy read. Love this professor!!!!
If you're not a moron this class should be incredibly easy. Chartrand is a cool guy but the lectures are incredibly boring and he can be condescending at times. He gives a study guide and most of the time its very similar to the quiz/exam. Overall easy class, boring content, but understanding professor.
Wonderful professor. Overall he is pretty easy as long as you do the study guides and show up for class. If you put in the bare amount of work you could easily get a B. In addition, his lectures are incredibly interesting.
If you don't read, you won't pass. Overall, he was a good professor. I barley passed but that was because I was too lazy to study but I still got a C!
OMG do not take! Makes the most triggered remarks ever! Also puts random things on tests and they are way to hard. Avoid!
Friendly. Read the textbook.
I believe (and this is my opinion),he's hilarious. He makes 1900s history fun! If you can handle sarcastic jokes, you'll appreciate his sense of humor. Anyway, back to Frank. His grading criteria is clear, easy assignments, DO THE STUDY GUIDE and read. I WILL say, he is expressive of his lack of hope for this generation, humanity and the class.
His test reviews are fill in the blank and you can find the answers for them by quizlet or lectures. Hist tests are basically copies of the reviews. Some questions might be from highlighted lecture notes. Assignments are simple just answer the questions and its a gurantee A. And if you don't pass this class with an A or B your just lazy. Its easy.
Just barely passed but that was due to my own laziness. He gave every opportunity to get an A on every test. Study guides (im told) had every answer for the tests. Final was a take home Essay. would gladly take again but would try a little harder next time!
You have to be utterly lazy not to pass this class why? - Tests are basically copies of the reviews sheets. He might rearrange the questions but just memorize the fill in the blanks and you'll get A's on them. - The final is a take home essay you get 7 days to work on it before the final date. Do the stuff required and you'll get an A its to easy
Took him in winter and his class is very easy. He just talks the entire class but he's incredibly funny and makes everything really interesting. Textbook not a requirement but I highly recommend it because you have to write as much as you can on the spot and his lecturers are very similar to what's in the book. Easy tests if you do the study guide.
I would highly recommend Prof. Chartrand. He tells you exactly what you need to know in order to pass. All you need to do is study the study guide before any quiz. The essays are super easy to write. This can be a simple class if you just pay attention.
One of the best professors . Had 2 classes with him. Very enjoyable lectures. Hes is different. I would take all my history classes with him. 3 easy assignments the whole semester. Quiz after each chapter BUT the quizzes are really easy. Just read the study guide and the the PowerPoint he puts on his website for each chapter. Take him. Easy A!!!!!
Hes a great professor the subject matter isnt easy but he makes it easy for you. He knows his stuff and has a great way to deliver the information. Hes pretty funny, will include interesting facts in certain areas. There are study guides for the quizes after each chapter and 3 short essays for hw. His style makes it easy to learn and remember .
Standard workload (3 essay hw assignments + 6 quizzes), but he's really unprofessional + not in a funny way. He wastes class time preaching opinions on unrelated topics + openly talks about how he hates his job + not great opinions about women + occasionally uses "r*tard." Standard difficulty but hard to sit through :( Look elsewhere if possible.
He's a realist if you don't like straight forward people this isn't the class for you. I thought he was a great prof. I never cared for history but for some reason I actually enjoyed this class. He give only 3 assignments during the sem. and each chapter gets a test thats it.
These are my tips for fellow incoming students: Print out study guide and copy answers from Quizlet. Then double check your answers by reading the textbook! Make sure you actually read because the final take home essay you must list examples, facts, and your opinion on a question that some how ties all civilizations together. ATTENDANCE IS A MUST
For HISTORY 13 pay attention to the stuff written in red because it's the info that's needed for the test. There is 3 to 4 written assignments that will be assigned. As for his personality he can be offensive at times but is generally funny. The tests can be tricky because the options for the answer are all similar to each other.
Professor Chartrand is honestly a genuine and caring professor. His class is not boring because he cracks jokes and isnt afraid to cover rough topics. His class is very simple but if you let work pile up it can be daunting. I would suggest this class for the fun classroom environment and interesting topics.
Decent prof. Coming from a C student, as long as you apply yourself you'd be able to get an A here smoothly. He's also pretty funny.. Take him.
I took him for History 1 & then History 2. His class is an absolute snooze fest besides the occasional jokes he makes. It's just a lecture the whole class period and a weekly or biweekly quiz & take home assignment. Just show up to class, pay attention, & then for the quizzes get the answers for the study guides from Quizlet. Easy A.
I've taken 3 consecutive classes with Professor Chartrand. He is my absolute favorite teacher at Pierce. The quizzes are easy if you do the study guide. You'll get a B if you only do the study guide, but if you read the actual chapter you'll get an A. Only 3 assignments throughout the semester. The final is easy if you do the study guide.
I was shocked by the negative reviews. He is hilarious and this class was an easy A. Listen during lectures and DO THE STUDY GUIDE, its basically a copy of his quizzes. During class we had lecture. 3 homework assignments all semester. Quiz for every 2 chapters. He says the book is mandatory but I got an A and I never opened the book Take this class
Chartrand was funny during class and would be a 5 rating had COVID-19 not happened and transitioned to online learning. I recommend him during online learning as his tests are very easy and there is no Proctorio.
His lectures were really dry, I'm not sure what they're like in person, but online they were... not enjoyable. I had to watch each one in 2x speed. He goes on a lot of unrelated tangents for way too long and puts his political opinions frequently into almost everything. His grading is alright, honestly, but the discussion topics are not very good.
I would have rated him a 5 but his lectures are really boring and dry. His responses to your email are also very dry and it looks like he gets mad really quick if you ask him a question or something. His tests were easy and the assignments were easy as well. Other than his lectures, I had no problem with this class and I would take it again.
This class was pretty casual. There were only three homework assignments and tests after each chapter (5 or 6 in total). Just do the study guide and you will be fine. He does go on lots of tangents during this lectures.
I would not take this teacher again he dropped me from a class when he gave me 24hrs to turn in the assignment. I also had a family emergency and asked for extra time and he flat line said no.
At first glance, the class seemed to me simple - 2 essays for the whole semester + discussion and quiz every week. But I was wrong. English is my second language, but I have always easily completed assignments in other classes, but I barely understood what Professor Chartrand was asking in discussions - his language is so difficult.
Overall great Professor! Honestly this is easiest history class you can take. His lecture PowerPoints are exactly whats on the tests. He gives you study guides, which are fill in the blank and his lectures consist of the answers. I memorized the study guides and got As on all my tests. Answers are on Quizlet! Book isnt mandatory at all.
Hes really strict on due dates and will NOT extend any deadline for you whether it be anywhere form technology problems to family emergencies. He assigns a lot of discussions and homework to keep the class engaged but honestly this class can be overwhelming. His lectures are super long and I feel like barely any of it gets covered in the quizzes
easiest class learned a lot there are a lot of discussions but they are easy do the study guide for the tests and you will get 100%
his class is a free A but Frank Chartrand is probably the worst online professor that I've encountered. five weeks out from the final and I've learned more from supplemental material than I have from any of his horrid lectures. the quizzes are a cakewalk and he pretty much gives everyone full credit for discussions and essays. free A garb prof
Easy A if you do the work. You HAVE to attend class, he takes attendance so attend or you'll be dropped. No late assignments accepted, and there was not an overwhelmibg workload. Lectures were interesting. Textbook not completely mandatory but it helps for anyone who needs it for extra studying. Has good review sheets for quizzes.
Straight forward professor who made class pleasant to attend
Assignments are unclear. Assignments and due dates always changing. He does not formulate clear essay questions, then threatens that if you don't answer completely, you will receive a poor grade.
Prof Chartrand cares about his students. He likes to try and make his students process information from different perspectives. His class discussions online are also interesting and you can learn a few things on there too. Overall, he's a great professor, I definitely recommend World History with Prof Chartrand.
Professor Shartrand was totally rude and immensely upset all his students.
I was scared on the first week he seemed too picky about everything BUT he wasn't this class was a breeze. Nice teacher, recommend his online class!
I took it as an 8 week course a lot of HW and tests. You can find most of what you need online sometimes you can't, good luck with that. Very strict with deadlines feedback given is very vague. Some assignments given are very vague. Most of the course has stayed the same since Covid. It's not unbearable and if you do what you need to you'll be fine
Loved Frank Chartrand. He's so nice and confident. very well respected to me. I had him History 001 in Fall 2015, History 086 in Fall 2016, and History 29 in Fall 2019. He was so nice to me and well respected. Loved Him.
Professor Chartrand teaches the class in a straightforward way, making it pleasant to attend. The workload is manageable - just follow the study guide and you'll ace the tests. Unstuckstudy AI was a big help for preparing.
Pretty easy class if you do the work. There are quizzes as well as a few assignments and then an essay for the final. Take advantage of the extra credit he gives as it's easy and helps your grade a lot. Would recommend for someone trying to get their GE requirements done with minimal effort.
If you take his online class, be ready to constantly get new assignments (on top of the already made assignment list) because he likes to respond to each discussion board. Each time he reads a discussion board, he makes another one on top of the already-existing assignments for that week, which are always immediately due within a couple of days.
Frank Chartrand is an excellent Professor, his lectures are very good and you can learn a lot in his class. He is great in correlating how historical events affect today's world, he is also really honest about some topics which could
hes a good professor, and he sounds EXACTLY like Jordan Peterson which really caught me off guard, but his class was easy and straightforward
Seriously, he's a great professor and the classes he teaches (I took 2) were easy to take and any homework was straight forward and simple. He lectures to get you to think, and he will answer any questions. And if you have any mental health concerns, talk to him because he's really nice about understand that.
He wants you to think, so his lectures are always engaging and funny. He's very understanding to mental health, you just gotta talk to him. I took him twice and I ended with an A both times. Chartrand is a great professor, and a must for history majors. He's really funny too. But this class isn't for the faint of heart, he wants to challenge you.
Professor Chartrand is clear, fair, and concise in his grading criteria, lesson plans, and lectures. He is a great teacher, as he teaches us to think instead of just memorizing information. I learned much from the one class and would happily take more of his classes.
This class is an absolute mess. One week, you have almost nothing to do, and the next, you have 50 assignments and lectures (not an exaggeration). Multiple lectures have content missing, and when asked about it, he replies "yeah, I should probably fix that someday". He does give extra credit, and the grading criteria are clear.
Loved this class, lectures were super interesting and he always found ways to relate it to current issues and topics so it always felt interesting. Quizzes and tests were online, and almost all the other homework was minimal writing and discussion. If you're someone who loves history and learning new information over busy work take this class.
Honestly, best professor I've encountered. Do what you have to do, show up, take notes and it's very easy from there. He articulates his lectures extremely well and cares for student engagement, is respectful, and overall teaches very well.
Totally swayed by other reviews. If you want to learn and sit in useful lectures, this isn't the class for you. During lectures, he goes SO OFF TOPIC on random stories about his life that don't matter at all. After every class, I have to refer back to old high school lectures to actually learn. I've learned more in middle school history classes.
