Overall easy gives many B, but not clear in what he wants from you and no feedback on your paper. He just gives you a grade.
best teacher so far
Amazing teacher, really funny, and hot
hard to get an A in his class. generally B's. very entertaining, with a twisted sense of humor.
Everything everyone said is true except for the hot part!
it is an easy class with him! take a lot of notes in his class and before the exams, just review the notes properly. if u quote things from the articles, u will end up with a good grade!
Very funny teacher, just wait till he talks about his mother-in-law! Classes are easy to sit through. It's easy to get a decent mark but hard to get a great mark. Doesn't respond to e-mails very promptly, if at all. Overall I would reccomend Crooks.
Crooks is one of the best teachers at Concordia. He doesn't use any notes- just stands at the front of the class and talks, but this method is extremely effective. Overall, hilarious and makes class worth going to.
Hard-headed, arbitrarily grades exams. Don't be fooled by comments, this guy makes it hard to get a good grade for no reason.
The good: Entertaining and funny lecturer, & subject matter is extremely useful. The bad: Arbitrary grader, not clear on what he's looking for on assignment/exam. 80% of marks in B to B- range (highest was 1 A-, lowest a few C+). *Very* frustrating if you're GPA-conscious and worked your tail off
Lazy teacher who arbitralily grades final according to midterm results. Projects a B average and grades students in consequence. B+ or B-, C+. Although funny, charismatic and interesting, his lack of grading rigour left me with a negative impression.
awesome teacher. the best so far
dont take this teacher if you have a good gpa cuz its going to go lower he does not give A even if you have the perfect answer. but he is entertainment and interesting, lots of good examples from real life
they're all right! he marks extremely arbitrarily...and does not seem to test your knowledge very accurately--but he is very entertaining--fun lectures, interesting anecdotes...you don't have to bother studying much because you'll probably end up with the same grade as someone who spends hours on it...definite gpa bummer though
Entertaining teacher, with plenty of experience. Tough marker, but definiately one of the best.
Tell the jokes on all the class. Need to prepare before the class. If you know the material well, you will find it fun in this class.
You need to study (really understand the material) and attend all his classes (actively listen, not just sit there) to get a good mark. If you want to get an A without studying, don't take his class. I find he is a fair marker. Lots of real life experience and fun to listen to. One of the best prof. so far.
A lil bit of a tough marker, but the man is interesting. Let's put it this way, my class was friday mornings 9-11 and i didn't miss one.If that doesn't make a teacher effective, dunno what does
He's such a funny guy. But I find his midterm hard but he curves the grade. So you cannot really failed in his class but it's still really hard to get an A+. And it is him who writes the final so you will be well prepared.
The most entertaining course I've taken so far. You wont regret taking Crooks.
Though I completed Comm 315 successfully (an A), I found the Crooks experience unenjoyable. Though his lectures are interesting (often funny), his marking system is increadibly petty. The slightest error has SUBSTANTIAL consequences on your grade. As such, you may end up in a positon (as I did) where you have to pull out all stops for the final.
Take him, I think I'm going to visit TAHITI!
It's true that it's the fun class to attend. Also it is true that hard to get a good grade in his class. There are few got A or A-, mostly in B- to B+. Just quotes CCQ or cases is not enough, he wants the explanation in details that's the hard part. That's the open book exam for.
Crook's class is.. interesting. But he is a very tough marker. you better write well cause hes gonna take off markets for the tiniest thing.
Excellent teacher that will pass on valuable and actionable information and knowledge to those that are paying attention. The subject matter is very useful in business and legal settings so definitely worth the effort! His relaxed teaching methods and midterm exams that make you laugh out load make the subject that much more enjoyable.
good guy, funny guy, good lectures.... so anal on the marking though.... wtv he's cool.

He is simply a great teacher. He knows a great deal about his subject and seems to enjoy teaching it to us! He is a funny guy to! He is a hard market but the knowledge you learn in this class is useful! Take his comm 315 or IBUS 493 classes!
he is everything you would want in a teacher: helpful, funny, extremely clear and concise in all his lectures, means what he says, cares about his students, etc... his notes are more of an outline, so be prepared to write from beginning to end. In short: this is one teacher you'd want to stalk (academically of course, lol)
One of the best teacher I have ever had
very fun teacher, content clearly delivered, MCQ style for exams. If you listen in class you'll have no problems at all. recommended!
Really cool professor who makes the class interesting and his tests reflect what he teaches in class. Always ready to answer students' questions and available at almost all time. I highly recommend him!
One of the best teachers Concordia has!!! The tests are fair and his method of teaching grabs your attention. To take absolutely!
Excellent teacher. He is very interesting. Exam has become Multiple Choice which did lead to some fair but tricky exams.
Avoid ! Avoid ! Avoid! Hard grader !! Exams are very tricky , eventhough mcq, doesn't blv in giving A's . One A- in entire class . This sucks !!!
Run away and save your Gpa. All I can say he is one Gpa killer . Won't recommend him at all !!!
He's a really interesting teacher. His exams are fair if you study well, some questions are tricky. I recommend him, he's a really nice teacher and always there to help and answer questions !
This could have been a really interesting class, but all the prof did was stand in front of class and talk for 2.5 hours on a Wednesday night. SOOO BORING! Not as interesting as COMM 315.
Prof. Crooks was very interesting and very funny. He does his best to explain the various laws and cases and to answer questions. All the exams are multiple choice. Most questions are fair, but he does like to put some tricky ones in there. Just make sure you understand all of the laws and the cases, and read the questions VERY carefully.
Absolutely hilarious. Keeps everyone on their toes in a good way, cracks jokes and retains everyones interest. Hard to find a seat every class because no one skipped. Format of midterms and final is tough (1% per MC question). Great teacher, highly recommend!
The class is a very interesting one. However, multiple choice questions are a bit tricky. You can study as long as you want, if you don't have that common sense you will be surprised at your mark. Prof Crooks is very knowledgeable and approachable as long as you don't wait 2 days before the exam
Probably the best teacher I've had at concordia so far. Explains the laws well in class but his mc exams can be tricky. Take lots of notes and you will do fine.
Nice teacher and explains well but dont expect to get better than a B or B- in the class. No one failed but most got D's in the class. Only one A-. He'll tell you at the beginning of the semester that he doesn't believe in giving out A's.
Maybe the best teacher I've had so far. The lecture were recorded and put on moodle but I still wanted to attend class. Lectures are interesting and funny. In my opinion if you read the book and use common sense you will get an A.
By far the best professor I've had at JMSB. He knows his stuff, is an easy marker, and an overall funny guy. The lectures were recorded and posted on moodle but I still attended class because it is so entertaining. I would say this is an easy A if you attend class and read the material.
Took 493 in F. 2013. Frank is a really wonderful teacher overall. Very engaging and quite entertaining w/ his anecdotes. Use text during class as the lecture goes along to take your own notes on his printed ppts. Quizzes, midterm will be a breeze. Final is a bit tricky, but fair and fun at the same time with the MCQ + Tr/Fal. Good law school prep.!
Has to be the best teacher I've had at JMSB. Very funny in class and makes it worth your while. Tests are very fair, study and pass or don't and fail. A+ to him, he makes law clear and makes it easy to understand!
really great teacher personality one general warning is that his exams are truly due or die ( i.e. : final was worth 50% and we had 50 multi choice questions) other than that i loves his wit and anecdotal approach to teaching business law to non business students take this class if you actually want to learn a thing or 2
I took Business Law as an elective class and it was the best decision ever :P .. although Law might be boring at times, this teacher made the content so much more interesting by making jokes and always trying to make the class laugh. He's a funny guy and gave us candy for halloween, hahaha! Take him, he's a fair grader :)
He records his lectures, so even if you miss a class or you don't feel like going to class you can go online and listen to his recordings. He is helpful, gives great examples in order to understant the theory. Take him!
Genuinely nice person, and teacher. Really prepares you for the final, and posts all his lectures online incase you miss a class. Definitely recommend!
Laugh at his jokes. All of them. He knows his stuff and teaches only the important material that will be tested. It is straight-forward. If you have no interest in law and case studies than you may find this class long. He records his classes so many people skip but there are two pop quizzes during the semester. Participate when you can!
Really good teacher. Records every class.
Such a bright and funny teacher. Records all his classes and is so helpful when referring back to the notes. Extremely interesting and the least boring teacher at Concordia. Take 100%
What a straight shooter. Lectures are clear and concise and speaks from experience. Could not have asked for a better teacher to teach such a dry course like 315. Great guy, makes students laugh and records his lectures. Highly recommend
Frank is a hilarious professor and a damn good one at that! He made class extremely interesting even though it was for about 3 hours and a night class. You'll learn a lot with him, participation counts but it's not hard to get the marks. Very easy pop quizzes (2 of them) and an easy group presentation. Take him if you want to have a good time/learn
This is the best teacher I have had so far . Amazing lecturer, professor crooks knows the class and is great at teaching it Hope to have him as a teacher again
He gives good example to make the material easy to understand. He records every single class and post it on moodle, so you don't have to attend class, or if you did you can go back to review something. His multiple choice questions are somewhat tricky, so you have to pay great attention to the wordings. Overall amazing & recommended !!
Took him for 315 where he is SOLID! very help full, his recording and slides are a GEM. Studied by redoing the recording and taking notes great prof. Took him for MANA 493, prof is still great but the subject is less "rule defined" so it is harder to grasp the "essentials" / a lot of info. Both courses absolutely require the textbook!
Answers questions well, very respected, really good at teaching this course, tells very interesting stories that go along with the readings and topics well.
Very nice prof, he records his lectures so attendance is not mandatory (but you may miss a few things that he says when the mic is off). Exams are very straightforward and well balanced between concepts and cases. Overall, if you study smart and attend classes, very easy A! Class had: 2 quizzes, oral (no paper), midterm and final.
He really knows what he is talking about. He even draws examples from his own experiences as a business lawyer when explaining the material. Genuinely a nice guy. Classes were extremely interesting and exams were fair. I learned so much!
Easily the best prof at Concordia and possibly Montreal. Super funny lectures that makes reading the Canadian/Quebec charter interesting. Loves to get people involved in class but doesn't care if you arn't paying attention. A lot of reading but that is just the nature of the course. He records his lectures so if you miss or skip, you can catch up.
Good prof. Gives lots of examples to make sure people understand. Exams are fair, but lots of reading is required (as it would be for any other 315 prof). Only negatives are that he rarely shows up to class on time and he'll promise to have grades posted by a certain day and then not post them.
His lectures are very interesting. He even records them. His exam are tough. You really need to know your material.
Honestly hes perfect. He records his classes on moodle and you can go over them and study with them for the exam. He is clear and specific, and with his lectures you should be good for the exam. Although, you have to read the book also, his lectures won't be enough but the readings are fun and simple to read, in my opinion.
Makes tough final exams, some topics are not even in the textbook. I was literally on the page since it's open book and it wasn't there. Pros to him recording his lectures though very helpful
He records his lectures, so there is no need to attend class. Very clear lectures, each bullet point of his powerpoint slides are explained. You need the book for the cases and for the final (open book final). He is approachable and personable. Would definitely recommend you take the class with him.
One of the best teachers I've ever had at Concordia, if not THE best. Knows what he's talking about, has tons of experience, fair grader, and very helpful during office hours. He also records each lecture which is very helpful. Great, great teacher!
Solid choice. Respected, experienced, and laid-back. My only negative is that it's a tough grading scheme - 2 exams for 25% with 25 multiple-choice, and 50% final with 50 multiple-choice questions... meaning -1% for every wrong answer. Did I mention he's a fan of 'B and C', 'None of the above', 'All of the above'? You've been warned.
His lectures were amazing and easy to follow. He knows his stuff and is very good at explaining different topics in law. I'm glad I took this class online, all lectures are available day 1, and you're free to work at your own pace. Two class tests and one final made for a very straight forward course.
You should definitely take this class online with Crooks! His online slides are clear and his explanations are solid gold, plus it's convenient to take it online. The tests may seem tricky but really read the questions carefully; the final is open book so make sure you know where everything is!
Franks online class is absolutely amazing! Best online class I've taken thus far! I got to know him over an extra event offered by one of the societies at school, and not only is he a fun and very interesting person but also quite caring! I would take him again as a professor in a heart beat!
His slides are perfect and they weren't too long or boring. Exams can be tricky if you don't know the nuances behind each law. I've only ever seen him during exams but he was hilarious every time. Highly recommend!
Wish I hadn't rushed ACCO 310 but instead taken this class at the same time, since I feel like they complement each other. Other than that his lectures are interesting and he also uploads them on moodle, although at random times, so don't count on not going to class and having everything ready when you need them.
tests are really difficult.. very tricky and its only 2 tests and 1 final exam. super nice guy, very funny and really good at teaching the material but if you want easy marks, then no.
Tests are difficult. He doesn't seem to have a clear understanding of how multiple exams work. He will often give questions with two or three "correct answers" just to trick you. When asking for a rational explanation as to why his answer is the correct one he will avoid meeting with you. Awful.
His recorded lectures were good and clear. The lectures were equally as important as the textbook chapters. He often expanded on topics that the book didn't cover and those questions appeared on the midterms and final.
So glad I took this prof. He makes law sound simple, tells you exactly what you need to know, and the textbook compliments his lectures. I liked the little (ungraded) knowledge quizzes at the end of the lecture to test whether I really grasped the material. Overall would definitely recommend this prof for COMM 315. You won't regret it!
Exams were all MCQ. Final proctored on COLE. Tricky questions with multiple "right" answers. Nice guy, explains content well and makes law interesting. Study his slides and read the cases. Attending class/watching his recordings definitely helps.
I took COMM315 online this semester, but I am still able to meet professor Frank in person. He explains my questions super well, and really helped a lot. If you want to ace this class, listen to all his lectures, read the book, and learn the case! This class can be really interesting and practical for us.
Great professor, probably the best I've had so far at Concordia. He really knows what he's talking about and makes the lectures interesting. He tries to get the class involved as much as he can. The only grades are three multiple choice tests, If you pay attentions in class, take notes, and study, the tests are easy. 10/10 would recommend.
TL;DR From what I've heard, Frank's EC section is the best (it's still flawed). Slides are well-made! 2 of the 3 tests were WAY harder than they should have been. He pulls BS tricks like writing "inverse" discrimination instead of "reverse". If you assumed it was synonymous, wrong. Interesting course, but the tests nearly killed my enjoyment.
Great Prof, good lectures that will teach you a lot. Often posts lecture recordings online as well. Tests can be tricky but if you study you will do well. Definitely recommend
I took this class after reading the multiple positive reviews, but I am deeply disappointed. His class is monotonous, uses a bunch of filler "examples" that are not useful. Easy class, would still avoid.
Graded by three exams. Exams tend to be written with the intention of tricking you ( questions that look similar, but are actually quite different), open book exams but you only have 45 minutes. Very stressful for an intro level course :/
Crooks is a mediocre professor. The class itself is very straight forward, however, he stands up and reads off the slides for 2 hours. The only upside is that he records every single lecture, so you can skip class and watch it later at 1.75x speed. Only take this class if you are really into law, otherwise avoid.
Hes a caring and sweet professor. He uploads all his classes on Yuja and if you skip a class it wouldn't necessary be detrimental, but the lectures are interesting! Great professor overall.
He is an easy going guy who really knows his stuff. The lectures are sometimes boring but if you are interested in law you will appreciate his class. The textbook is sooo necessary because you can use it during the exams so make sure you know it well.
I took him for COMM 316 which is similar to COMM 315. His lecture was online and I found it interesting, I didnt get my grade back but I am pretty sure I finished with an A. Its important to know the cases well for the final exam.
Engaging prof with clear lectures. Tests were tricky but doable with diligent studying of slides and cases. Unstuck AI was a great help for prep. Would recommend for the interesting material.
I took this course online. It was fully on eConcordia and the slides were clear and covered everything relevant to the course. As long as you complete the lessons in a timely manner (this is a course you do at your own pace) you should be good. Best part of the course though: it was an open book final exam.
