Dias was an awesome teacher. The man loves teaching and devotes whatever time it takes to insure your comprehension....I think anyone who has a bad thing to say about him put no effort into the class and is bitter from a bad grade. He rocks!
this class was so bad. i totally felt it was a waste of my time (however it was required for my major).
Nice guy, seriously. If you want a good grade, I highly reccomend him. And you'll pass for sure! You have so many extra credit options! One think though: don't laugh, for any reason, cuz he might not like you thereafter.
Dias is GREAT, alot of point opportunity, he literally wont let you fail if you try, he gives extra credit and his tests are 25% hmwk which he gives you the answers, but ONE THING ONCE YOU ****HIM OFF YOU ARE SCREWED. SO DONT LAUGHT IN CLASS OR GOOF OFF!
awful teacher;doesn't speak english;is not around when you need his help;leaves his class in hands of TAs who know nothing!!!!!
Dias is afraid of confrontation, make sure you don't yell at him because then he will make the course even worse than it already is. Listen to his moral stories and go to all the discussions. He majorly adjusts the grades at the end of the semester.
This man is an embarassment to your University. I received an A in the course, and didn't learn a thing. Want an A?? Write computer programs into your calc & just flat out memorize homework problems. Don't bother with the theory....

the worst thing that can ever happen to you in your college experience. aweful person and teacher, but a suck up. do not take his class if you are willing to pursue a career in science.
Saturday class stinks! Lots of bookwork. Irritating attitude. Enthusiatic about teaching but arrogant. Tests not hard "if" you do the bookwork. Gives out lecture outlines. Standard deviation grading. He asks for participation.
Great teacher. Teaches students how to approach chemistry. Really likes teaching and cares about his students. Curved grading. If you don't like chemistry take him he'll make it easy.
He's a really great guy, very socially minded (which sometimes sets him off on tangents). He is an easy prof because he asigns a lot of extra credit, but he also assigns a lot of work. You can use the answer manuel, though.
This guy is the worst teacher that I have ever had. Unfair! Can't teach anything and will provide no answers for homework, must copy them all by hand and it takes hours. Definitely stinks and should be fired.
Completely psychotic. I learned NOTHING in his class. AVOID him at all costs. DO not take anything from him. If you have to, stay on his good side and don't complain, otherwise it will backfire as he favors some students for no real reason. Frightening.
You will learn absolutely nothing, but overall the course is not that bad. He give us hw that must be turn in on the day of the exam. Gives out 5 tests, 1 which is the final and not cumulative. He gives out a lot of extra credit.
Do not take. He does not explain anything, you will be teaching yourself. His tests are hard from the standpoint that you will have no time to take them once he is done handing them out. Lots of homework with zero payoff. Horrible teacher.
Good teacher. Gives good grades on all homework assignments. But you have to do the homework and actually try. Exams are challenging. Very helpful if you talk to him. Overall nice guy.
Nice caring old school professor, heavy accent though. He takes role and is cranky but his tests are right from the book, his TA's ironically are awesome and pretty good looking, they are super young and wild yet sweet.surprised they were hardcore chemists
All of the comments that say nice things about him are obviously from his favorites in class. He is arrogant, irresponsible (loses your grades and then gives you a zero) Never at his office. LOVES flattery. Tests = semi-difficult.The TA's are pretty cool-
Dias is a wonderful man. He is really dedicated to teaching and he offers so much support--more than any teacher that I have ever had so far! GREAT teacher. You should def take him! Tests are fairly easy--he covers what will be on there. BIG HUGE CURVE!
I hate to break it to you but this is college. Your not going to get an A just because you want one you actually have to try and do the work. I've had him and he's a great teacher. Gives many oppurtunities for a good grade. You just have to apply yourse
No Comments
If you are patient, he will be patient with you and will take time to help you in office hrs. Tests are multiple choice, which can work for or against you depending--however there is a huge curve and he is very friendly. But yes, don't get on his bad side
Dr Dias is a very good person. He makes you want to come to chem and learn. He has a big heart and is both a prof and a mentor. If you ever need him for anything, he will try his best to help you. He is a truly one of the best profs at LUC.
One of my all time favorite teachers. He is dedicated to his students and commits all his time and energy into making chemistry comprehendable and fun. He loves what he does and if he sees that you are putting in a good effort, he meets you half way.
He cannot teach the material properly and does a poor job of communicating with his students. He intimidates them.
Dr. Dias is a blabbering fool.
He actually made this course attainable. You have to do the work, but he is beyond helpful and gives you every possibility to do well. Great professor! Thanks
He might be a good teacher if you understand him and if he likes you. otherwise, when you go in for help he spends two seconds with you and whatever you get out of that is what you get out of the class
hey dont be harsh on this guy..he gives you way more possibilities via extra credit to attain a better grade! If you cant understand him, take a Q-tip and dig out the air and gunk inside your silly teenage minds. This guy so far is the best science teacher at loyola --BETTER THAN terrible TRIBBLE!!
A wonderful teacher. We've only had one exam and it wasn't bad. Will help you if you ask for it. Also, offers help by organizing student help. Explains things step-by-step. A teacher that cares, gives extra credit, curves, gives students extra help, an overall great guy.
a complete nut job... he's extremely clueless when it comes to teaching ... funny as hell though .. i spent the whole time reading red eye and breezed through the class.
He is the worst teacher ever. He does not allow for questions, he takes away EC points if you do ask questions. Very disrepectful. Does not clarify when asked to. No conceptual questions, all math based. avoid him at ALL COSTS. if you have him, u might as well just drop chem.
If you understand chemistry and don't have a problem doing things on your own without constant guidance, I think Dias is easy. The key to success in his class is personal effort.
I totally agree with the last comment. You have to put effort into it. What are you talking about takes away extra credit for asking questions are we in the same class?! overall nice guy, exam are a bit long, he'll help you out if you ask for it. This is college its all about what you put into it
I had Dr. Dias in 2001 and am still scarred. Terrible teacher. Disorganized. Doesn't help when you ask him for help. Accent was incomprehendable!
If you aer a pre-med or smart student and want to learn chem real well don't take him. He is not helpful unless he like you. Tests are usually curved even though they are easy. Poor lectures, poor explanation, you are on your own to read if you want to learn something. Good class if you want easy A.
You will do well in his class if you do the HW (end of chapt) which can be about 15 problems, b/c tests mirror the questions. No more EC in the future, and maybe no hw credit either b/c hassle. Tests are mult. choice so no partial credit. Curves. Ok guy but gets frustrated & stressed. Medium pace.
Dr. Dias is soooo easy, need to do a lot of ind study for the mcats though. But overall, I enjoy his class, its the only one I dont stress out over, and his exams are a snap.
Terrible professor. I learned absolutely nothing from his class and the way of grading is terrible. Sure he'll curve tests but the grades don't seem to match up. He definitely has favorites. Don't take!!!!
Very strange guy. Doesnt explain well in class. Lecture has nothing to do with what is on the test. Totally confusing and no point in going to lecture.
He is like those people at the DMV who just like to make your life as tedious and annoying as possible with no result in the end. He doesn't know how to explain anything, you have to read it and figure it out for yourself, and he screwed up my grade so that it said had a D when I really had a B
true he not clear and very unhelpful. But I took his in the fall and his T.A.'s are wonderful and should be the teachers, they are right about Bobby and Rick. Bobby is very hot but stuck up and has no teaching ability, Rick is the true teacher , not only is he very cute but makes sense of everything
Horrible. Wastes so much time in class going over rediculous stuff. Tells students not to email him and he will take away EC points from you if you talk to him during office hours. After 13 years it is time for him to retire. Complains about how long it take to grade tests, he buddy it's your job

I took him two years ago. His class is so easy compared to what I'm in now. His explanations were clear and he was very helpful. I don't know what these people are talking about. One thing I will say is that you have to put in the effort. Wait until orgo, then you'll have something to complain about
I don't really think he is a good teacher compare to Graham. I did got an A in Dias class but still he wasn't that helpful to students that sought it. But its all in the past now. I think Grahm better prepared me for orgo. Idid well in orgo too.
He is grumpy, his exams are multiple choice and he is subjective. True, his teaching asst Richard is pretty cute and nice and has the teaching ability but he is overworked.Rick controls grades, attendance and extra credit. He's very nice & is held back by the teacher alot.Read book and be cool with TA

Avoid his class. You can't learn nothing from him. he doesn't know how to explain clearly. Lectures are super boring(everyone says so). Tests are not very hard but you can't have partial credits b/c all of them r multiple choices. i got A for 101 w/ another prof. but this class sucks and Dias sucks
hes an **** who pretends to care but doesn't. hes an ass. dont ever take him.
His exams are soo easy, and the average is always pretty high. His lectures are OK. Just do the homework problems. I like how he goes over problems in class.
Dr. Diaz is the best guy ever! He is so nice and is always there for his students. He is always available for help. His tests are kinda hard, but what chem test isn't? I would take him if I were you!
I had him last semester i got an A but I didnt learn**** from him. I am taking Graham now. He is superduper rock!! Why should u care? Because u will learn a lot more beside what is in the book. Take Graham! U suck Dias!
Wow, glad its over. The class voted to do sample problems in class and discussion, I showed for attendance lists, class time was useless- the solutions are in the book! Lectures are jumbled, tests are from question banks, a new lesson in teaching yourself. Avoid if you can, unreasonable work for A's
One crazy class and one crazy professor. I think understanding Dias is the worst part of the class. I do give him credit becuase he tries the best he can. However, NEVER ask him a question becuase you will just be wasting your time. It's really funny when he says he's GRUMPY! The material is hard.
Nice guy, gave us lots of extra credit. He's not easy to understand but its not his fault. Exams are pretty clear and he give points for questions that are unclear on the exam. Too bad he can't screw up an entire exam then we'd get free points. I'd reccomend him overall
I was REALLY not impressed by this class at all. For instance, out of 38 questions on the final, 5 were problematic. So the curve was screwed up and the exam really didn't test our command of the material. Prof. Dias is tempermental, hard to understand, his lectures are useless, and blows a fuse if you miss class at 8:30am on Sat morning.
I think Dr. Dias is a very good professor, and I recommend him to anyone who is taking chemistry!

*Awesome* as a person--cares about his students & funny. But don't take this class unless ur a freaking genius. ***Impossible*** multiple choice tests. Doesn't really answer your questions about lecture material..he just reiterates what he's already said. He tries though. Curve= "class mean% + 1.5%"
Nice guy kinda hard to understand. Exams weren't that hard if you study. Summer class was fast paced but not impossible. The curve was class mean + 1.5(sigma,standard deviations) which is pretty good.
He curves his exams for a reason: he doesnt teach well. He will go off and talk about India and his life experiences. Hes stubborn and does not help students. He basically told us to ask classmates for help. His jokes are as lame as his teaching profession.
Dr. Dias tries his best to explain the material. Yet, the words sometimes do not come out quiet the same way he wants them to. He is awesome in personality but who carez about personality we want to LEARN chemistry. I hope someone could teach him how to "explain." Everything else is cool.

Dr. Dias is an awesome professor. He is careing and demanding of his students. If he goes off on a tangent it is because it's important and he is educating you about more than just Chemistry. Any student upset with him is just mad at themself for not putting in the work. Rock on Dias!
O M GOSH! be scared!!
Please schedule a lot of help with the tutors here if you're struggling with this class. You'll find this out after the first test. Also, spend 2 hours a day 5 days a week if you're aiming for an A or a B. Aim for a score higher than 85% on his tests. He's got a curve but it's a guessing game if you get median scores. Attendance = extra credit.

Alright i took chemistry for 5 years... i had straight A's every year... but seriously DO NOT TAKE DIAS if u dont understand chem... HE WON'T HELP U AT ALL... He screams at every1 in class if we ask him questions, he kicks out students from class for bs reasons...and his accent does not help in learnin chem... he's a horrible teacher!!!!! i'm getti
Dias is the easiest chem 101 teacher at this school. I'm sorry, but if you can't pass chem 101 on your own, then you are a****and shouldn't be going to medschool.
He's old school. If you show him respect he's great. His lectures are easy to understand, but you do have to put in the work. I like his approach to problem solving. I sucked at chemistry before I came here, but now its not too bad.
Dias is disrespectful and a pain, but this is a very easy class if you're good at teaching yourself from the book and can nail the homework problems on your own. He can't teach, but his exams and quizzes are straight from the homework. Tedious attendance, homework, and in-class assignments can help boost final grades, and he does curve.
he is sometimes rude but i think it's funny. i will admit that he is not the best teacher around but if you do your homework and come to class you will probably get a good grade. you can learn chem 102 without an instructor. his curves are great. 66 is a C. A is around 80-83 depending on the test. If you can learn independently, then take him.
At first the class appeared to be easy, but as the semester went on, he made the tests unlike the material in class and you basically had to study the book. But you had to go to class (or it would count against your grade). He has a big head about chemistry and won't help you at all. His method of communication is impossible to understand.
His classes are definitely challenging, but prepare you well for MCATS and such. Do NOT miss class. He has a bit of a temper problem, so if he starts yelling at you about anything at all just keep quiet and let him blow off some steam and he'll be fine in a few minutes, just don't say a word. Respect him and he'll respect you, simple as that.
Dias is the BEST!! one of my FAVORITE teachers. he really pushes you to do the best that he knows you can do. he's a really down to earth guy-worked with kids in India who overcame the most amazing struggles in their education. So when luc students take things for granted and make stupid criticisms, he listens & adapts, but he also knows whats up.
Dias is a very nice man. He's not the best teacher, but his exams are fair and reasonable. Additionally, he offers extra credit and curves exams. Just be respectful and don't listen to the horror stories of the lazy, stupid undergrads that rated him poorly.
nice guy, who tries hard to help out kids...
An ok teacher. Has pop quizes and will deduct points for sending what he calls "unnecessary or ambiguous" emails.
He is a really nice guy and all, he's just not a great teacher. Most of the time in class is wasted and you end up learning everything from the book, not from class.
he's the worst professor. he doesn't teach u****. and i'm not a ****ing lazy ass either. i work my butt off. don't ****ing listen to that other **** who thinks he's an amazing teacher obviously he's a **** himself.
I've had a lot of professors in undergrad and beyond. Dias is the *worst* prof I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. He refuses to answer questions, takes points off for "frivolous" emails, and disrespects his students on a daily basis. Avoid him if you care at all about learning chemistry. With him you don't learn, you suffer.
He says he tries to help...but he doesn't. He is the worst teacher I have had at Loyola. He does not go over anything that will be on his tests.
Who needs a teacher who can't teach? No use in comming to class, just read the book. His class is a waste of precious time.
Nice guy, but nice has nothin to do wit the damage hell do to ur GPA. Spends time showing you previous students work. Does not teach, just puts slides up for two seconds n goes on to the next one expecting us to have engraved the info in our brains in that brief time. Mark the scantron correctly bc if you dont he will not grade it.
he is one of the worst teacher you could get at loyola. All he does is complaining about stuff from his personal life. He is a waste of time. You could do better on your own, trust me...
I don't know why he's still teaching. Countless complaints to the department. doesn't allow questions in class, doesn't allow e-mailed questions, takes points off for e-mails, complains about how the students all bought there way in, etc. hard to understand through the thickness of his accent...and constant rage.
definitely not an easy teacher but he is really helpful if youre polite during office hours. I got an A so its not that hard as long as youre doing good compared to the rest of the class
Truley a wonderful teacher. I feel sorry for those of you who will never get to experiance him. Thank you for your helpfulness and guidance Dr.D
Kind, caring, and compassionate person you will ever meet. You are truly missed.
Talk about a guy who actually cared so much about his impact on students --he took to heart every response they gave him. Sadly, the communal response was often derragatory and negative. To talk with him out of the classroom setting was truly a pleasure and an honor. He frequently talked of his views on the current status of American education a
education and of his lack of impact on such as being only ONE professor. Well Dr. Dias, you made one hell of an impression on me. Miss you much, God bless.
Dr. Dias was one of the best teachers I ever had. He always made time to listen to his students, and would stop what he was doing to discuss any problems I might have, class related or otherwise. Unfortunately, my classmates did not always appreciate him for the amazing man that he was. Dr. Dias, you will surely be missed. Thank you.
He was a wonderful teacher. He not only taught chemistry but also about life. He wanted his students to succeed and fulfill their dreams. Unfortunately some didn't see it that way and made life tough for him. He will truly be missed.
I had him for discussion. Really nice guy. Willing to help and gives reasonable on amount of work. It was kind of helpful to go to discussion, but I only went because it was part of my lecture grade.
I really loved Dr. Dias. He was literally my favorite teacher. I cant believe he doesnt work here anymore. I few bad students complained about trivial problems and got him in trouble in think. he actually cared about the students - Kevin m
I want to pay tribute to Dr. Dias. I cried when I heard the news of his death. His dedication to service was inspiring and I will always remember him preaching that we need more scientists in government. After I get my medical degree, I just may run for office. I feel sorry for the students who were too immature to get to know him.
